Resident Evil 3 is the latest RE game to join the Apple Store

It's free but also not at the same time.

It does seem pretty wild that we can now play AAA games on our mobile devices. Gone are the days of having stripped-down versions for portable gaming devices. Capcom has been keen on this idea, and Resident Evil 3 is the latest title to come to Apple.

If you head over to the , you’ll see the remake is now available to download on your phone or tablet. If you have an iPhone or iPad, you can now play RE3 on the go. There are, of course, a couple of things to take into account before you leap in🍸.

First, while it is the complete game, you only get access to a “limited part” of it for free. If you want to play the rest of it, you’ll need to pay. Currently, the base game is going for £8.29 (about $10.76 US), and you also have the option to unlock “in-game rewards” for £1.69 (about $2.19 US). The store page also says you’ll need to be connected to the internet “when starting the application.”

Contains “Infrequent/Mild Cartoon or Fantasy Violence,” apparently

To double-check which Apple devices are compatible with the mobile port of Resident Evil 3, you can check out the . In a nutshell: iPhones 15 and 16, as well as their variants, are required. If you have an iPad, most of the Pro models should be compatible, along with the M1 5th g⛦en of the iPad Air and A17 Pro of the iPad Mini.

As mentioned earlier, this is not the first Resident Evil game that made its way onto Apple products. In October 2023, RE: Village came to iPhones and iPads, and joined the remake of RE2 and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.

What I am somewhat amused by is the fact that the App Store has the age rating down as 17+, with a specific note on how the game contains “Infrequent/Mild Cartoon or Fantasy Violence,” but also “Frequent/Intense Realistic Violence.” Such is the way of survival horror gaming.
