Today sees the release of Capcom’s long-awaited Resident Evil 4 remake, which launches on PlayStation, PC, and Xbox platforms after much hype and hoopla — And it seems that the title is already seeing top-tier levels of success, setting the series’ best-ever player record on PC gaming dashboard, Steam.
, an amazing 140,240 players were simultaneously logged in and making their way through the Uroboros-infested nightmare earlier today. This number represents the highest amount of Steam user concurrently playing any Resident Evil release at any one time, including previous remakes Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3, as well as modern mainline sequels Resident Evil VII: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village.
Clearly, the nostalgia factor of the original Resident Evil 4 — still considered a series highlight some 18 years on from its initial GameCube release — will help drive the new 2023 edition to incredible success. The launch of the highly anticipated title is set to kick off what is expected to be a stellar year for Capcom, with dinosaur hunter Exoprimal and the stellar-looking Street Fighter 6 waiting in the wings for the coming quarters. The publisher will no doubt be quick to let us all know how RE4‘s week one sales work out, as players don the sheepskin coat of Leon S. Kennedy for another trip into a living hell.
Resident Evil 4 is available now on PlayStation, PC (Steam), and Xbox Series X. The additional Mercenaries mode will arrive as a free update on April 7.
