Sega is looking into live-action adaptations of Atlus games, including Persona

Putting your hand in the TV might get too realistic

Sega is looking into doing more film and TV, and it’s eyeing properties under the Atlus umbrella. A new story indicates Sega is digging into the Atlus catalog for potential live-action film and TV adaptations.

Speaking to IGN, Sega says it is currently exploring live-action film and TV projects with various studios and producers. Toru Nakahara—producer on the Sonic the Hedgehog movies—says Sega is exploring the idea, specifically pointing towards the Persona franchise.

“Atlus’ worlds are filled with high drama, cutting-edge style and compelling characters,” said Nakahara. “Stories like those from the Persona franchise really resonate with our fans and we see an opportunity to expand the lore like no one has seen—or played—before.

“Together, Sega and Atlus, are working to bring these stories and worlds to life through new mediums and for new audiences,” Nakahara says.

Sky’s the limit

Sega didn’t specify any production companies in particular to IGN. It’s only interested in exploring potential projects with various studios and producers at the moment.

It’s not like Persona hasn’t been adapted before, though mostly through animated series and OVAs. But making it with human actors could get a little weird.

While The Witcher and other series have moved into the corporeal realm with solid results, anime-styled adaptations haven’t always fared so well. Look at Netflix’s  if you need an example.

Still, video ga🌺me adaptations continue to be all the rage. Sega has done pretty well with the live-action Sonic movies so far, so there’s some earned lee-way in experimenting a bit. Just uh, please don’t make a live-action Teddy. The world isn’t ready yet.
