With all of the Souls series marketing blitzes, it’s easy to forget that yes, From Software produced and released Sekiro, and it ruled. Well, it’s cleaned up quite a bit and managed to achieve the milestone of 10 million units sold worldwide as of September 26, 2023.
Here’s the full announcement , roughly translated to English:
“From its release in March 2019 to today, we have received tremendous support from everyone, and we have now surpassed 10 million units sold worldwide. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who played this work.”
I hope that in 20 years, people remember Sekiro
The last website update for Sekiro when From Software made folks aware that there would be temporary online maintenance. Since then it’s quietly lived on in the hearts of many; including folks who wistfully still haven’t beaten that final boss yet.
It’s not in the headlines nearly as often as Elden Ring, which is a cultural phenomenon at this point, and it’s arguably less accessible. But it’s also one of my favorite games of this generation, packed to the brim with tense boss fights, interesting locales, and a kickass action system.
You can find a used copy for roughly $30, and I highly recommend you give it a chance if you have a penchant for action games. There are a lot of similarities to From Software’s Souls moneymaker to be sure, but it’s also one of the most unique games they’ve crafted to date, and it shows almost immediately.
