Someone’s added a Kalashnikov into Black Myth: Wukong

Revenge tour.

PC game modding is, in more ways than one, the lifeblood of the medium and a source of both community and joy. Modding guns into games where they don’t belong, in particular, is , so it’s no surprise someone added an actual AK rifle into Black Myth: Wukong.

Footage of this mod has been circling the game’s biggest subreddit for some time now, and it is slowly getting better and better. Notably, some of the new footage shows the Monkey King doing actual reload drills before dishing out punishment at range. Look, that staff of his is neat and all, but it’s no Kalashnikov.

Black Myth: Wukong’s AK mod tears up the game but doesn’t seem to be widely available yet

The AK(47?) mod for Black Myth: Wukong appears to have been made by a Chinese modder, and the files are yet to be released to the wider public. I haven’t been able to find them, at least, and goodness knows I’d be eager to show Black Bear Guai, the head honcho on New Game+. Granted, there is a pretty darn neat to adapt it to the game’s combat model. It’s a far cry from the genuine article shown in these videos, but it’ll do until we get our hands on the real deal, I reckon.

The memes surrounding this footage are numerous and highly appropriate, but the bit that really gets me is how well the weapon seems to function in the context of the game. While the AK breaks the experience and turns Black Myth: Wukong into a straightforward shooting gallery, but it’s incredibly cathartic.

This also speaks to Unreal Engine 5’s flexibility: the fact that the gun seems to work perfectly fine with ammunition counters, reloads, and all the other goodness is remarkable. The footage is low-resolution, for sure, but it doesn’t even look all that janky, and that’s the really fascinating bit to me.

Presumably, the mod will eventually make its way into the mainstream at some point. Until then, stay tuned to the subre🃏ddit as they seem to keep popping up every so often.
