Sony has reportedly removed the 8K logo from its PlayStation 5 boxes

It only took four years.

Sony has reportedly removed the 8K logo from its PlayStation 5 boxes. The PS5 box has been displaying the 8K logo ever since the console’s release in 2020. It only took the company four years to remove claims about the (so far) non-existent feature of the conso💜le.

Sony’s in 2020 mentioned that the 8K display would arrive later with a system software update, but four years later, an update that enables this functionality for the PS5 is still missing. Sony senior vice president Naomi Matsuoka reportedly said earlier in February this year, that the PS5 has entered the “🍷lat꧒ter stages” of its life cycle. Wꦑith PS5 now out 🥃for four years, and apparently entering its twilight years, the 8K resolution might not be arriving for the PS5 after all.

However, fans believe that the long-rumoured PS5 Pro might receive 8K resolution as one of the features, which may explain why Sony has decided to remove the label from PS5 so that the PS5 Pro can be marketed as aဣn 8K supported console instead. While the situation is upsetting for PlayStation users, the feeling is likely mutual for Xbox Series X owners as well. Microsoft also claims that the Xbox Series X supports 8K display as well, but the feature is similarly locked behind a system update.

As it stands, the 8K display is not on the standard PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X console. Given that the 8K display resolution has not become mainstream in gaming or entertainment, and with few 8K TVs on the market, it seems like it will be some time before 8K becomes a household🎀 name like 4K is at the moment.
