Despite being an overall solid release, last year’s Spyro: Reignited Trilogy came under notable fire for lacking accessibility options. Specifically, Activision’s compendium was missing subtitles for its cutscenes, a particularly odd design choice in gaming’s modern era, where the option is seemingly a given for many major releases.

You may remember that Activision’s response to the complaints was pretty half-arse, simply stating that there was “no industry standard” for subtitles, but that they’d bear people’s complaints in mind for future releases. Fortunately, it looks like the backlash has worked. A new patch – which rolls out today on Xbox One and PS4 – will add subs to the little dragon’s retro adventures.

, the cutscenes will include full subtitles, in multiple languages. They are complete with character markers to designate who is speaking, and multi-coloured text “for improved character association in most languages.” I’m sure this will come as great news for fans who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. Maybe subtitles aren’t an “industry standard,” but publishers and developers choose to set those standards themselves, so perhaps they should be.

The new patch also allows for the disabling of motion blur, and fixes various bugs across the board. Spyro: Reignited Trilogy is available now on PS4 and Xbox One.
