Since the induction of ESRB ratings in 1994, no Super Mario series title has ever received a rating higher than E. Yoshi’s Island and Super Mario 64 used the old “Kids to Adults” which has since been replaced by the E for everyone rating. Every Mario entry since has understandably reꦯceived this E rating. However, , for everyone ages ten and up.
The E10+ rating is described by the ESRB as containing “cartoon, fantasy or mild violence, mild language and/or minimal suggestive themes.” Perhaps bouncing on relatively realistic humans heads, forced marriage, and dinosaur possession capture have played a role. I doubt the Sombrero-and-Poncho-wearing Mario will down a tequila.
