In case you’re not feeling adequately rewarded while playing 2021’s existentially devastating FPS Cruelty Squad, achievements have been added to Steam that will tell you wh??at a good job you’re doing.

If you’re unfamiliar, Cruelty Squad is jank pop royalty. It’s a grotesque and offensive-looking game where you play as a corporate mercenary carrying out assassinations in a world ruled by sinfully immoral rich people. What makes this different from real life, however, is that it’s maybe the future, and you can wear meat armor. Better yet, the meat armor works after a patch last March, but i??t didn’t when I initially played it.

Now, achievements will be doled out for your insignificant progress. “I added achievements. You can suggest new ones to add here, I will not add them but you can do that,�said developer Consumer Softproducts on the Steam community page. 

Furthermore, the game’s overlord suggests that the achievements are only awarded “for completing each of the levels,�but if ther?e’s one thing I know about the developer, it’s that you can’t entirely take what you say at face value. All the achievements are hidden, so I can’t tell you if it’s true. Knowing Consumer Softproducts, there is probabl?y one in there with an extremely painful or impossible objective. However, they say, “I honestly just couldn't be bothered figuring out how they work,�which, I don’t know, could be entirely true.

Adding achievements to a game is never a bad thing, but I dunno. When Cruelty Squad does it, it feels like it's insulting me.

Cruelty Squad is available for PC right now. It’s actually on sale right now, so you should buy it. As a reminder, the next game by Consumer Softproducts, Psycho Patrol R, is ready for your wi?shlist. I don't know if you should ?buy that yet, but my instincts tell me maybe.

Can't Cat-ch Me

When I cracked into Stray for the first time, I didn't think I'd have to worry about how best to zig-zag, juke, and even "drift" as a cat �but when a coveted trophy is on the line, everything's on the table. Half an hour of failed attempts and several slow-mo guide video??s later, I've finally gotten Can't Cat-ch Me, a simple yet deceptively hard trophy.

It's one of the earliest trophies/achievements you can (theoretically) get in Stray, but I'm here to say that it might be best to save it until after you've finished the game. It could put you into a sour mood if you try to force it, so don't let it?? gnaw away. Come back later.

In the second chapter, there's a tense chase sequence on the city streets with Headcrab-esque creatures call??ed the Zurks. They'll scurry, leap, and glom onto your cat, and if you?? don't shake them off quickly enough, that'll be the end of this journey. Try again.

In a puzzle-solving adventure game that is overwhelmingly chill, these little creeps are very threatening. They're relentless, as they're meant to be, and t?hat works well in the context of the ruined city's story. But when it comes to this trophy, the struggle is real.

• Can't Cat-ch Me: Complete the first Zurk pursuit without being caught.

The chase sequence is about a minute long �how hard could it be? I feared the two-hour speedrun more than anything else, but that seems way less stressful by comparison; there's room for error, at least. Here, yo??u have to memorize every rushdown and pray.

That's your home!

In general, zig-zagging is the play. But sometimes, it's best to strategically run into a group of Zurks and swerve at the last second. Other times, you might need to take a wide swing from one wall all the way to the other, to d??raw out certain Zurk leaps. It's not so much avoiding coming into contact with them as? it is making sure they don't land on top of you.

Of course, in practice, i??t feels like devious RNG is pulling the strings.

If you're going for the Can't Cat-ch Me trophy in Stray, I would recommend rebinding the run input to something comfortable (not the default R2 on PS5), just in case you're stuck here for a while.? Other players recommend increasing the sensitivity, but I kept it as is.

Act like a cat (for the most part)

As we inch closer to launch day on July 19, one of the most fun games to think about right now is Stray, an adventure game about being a cat in a futuristic world run by robots. The trophy list is now out in the wild (courtesy of sites like Exophase and Powerpyx), and some of the descriptions give us a better idea of what to expect from Stray's scope.

Most notably, there's a pacifist challenge, one for meowing 100 times, another for being sneaky enough to go undetected, and a speedrun trophy for finishing the game in under two hours. From everything we've seen of Stray so far, I'm not surprised that it can be completed so quickly �and to be honest, that actually sounds wonderful. Two hours seems like a nice runtime for ??a better-informed, more efficient second playthrough.

If you rush too much, you'll miss the collectibles: badges,?? memories, and sheet music. It's reassuring to know there's a reason to comb the city beyond just the story.

I'm planning to play Stray with my PlayStation Plus Premium subscription (heads-up: the PS Plus Extra tier also includes access to the game), and as good as it looks, this isn't the sort of experience I'd want to drag on and on. When it comes to game length, I always think back to Inside �a? fantastic, gripping, potent-the-whole-way-through ad??venture.

Apart from PS4 and PS5, Stray will also be on PC �in fact, it recently topped Steam's "Top Wishlists" list. Clearly, a bu?nch of us would rather just be a cat right now.

If you already have them, you'll get a reward

You'd be excused for not realizing that Gears 5 has a map builder, and just as some of us are finding out about its existence, the feature is going away. On Twitter today, the Gears of War developers announced plans to remove the map builder �but with a fun twist. The two related Gears 5 map ach??ievements will be unlocked? automatically for all players.

These achievements are related to the Escape mode, specifically:

• I Made It All by Myself (10) â€?Create and publish an Escape Hive.
• Homegrown Give (10) â€?Complete a Featured community build Escape Hive.

According to The Coalition, if you already got the Escape Hive achievements before the map builder's departure, you'll get an "exclusive banner??" and 10,000 coins, respectively.

While the tweet didn't specify an exact timeline, I just hopped into Gears 5 through Xbox cloud streaming and, after hitting the main menu, ?both achi??evements popped for me.

More games should handle achievements this way

I've absolutely engaged with map makers and other supplemental content in games purely to round out my achievement/?trophy lists. And with games often shedding content in their old age, the completionist community has made a point to always call out time-limited or otherwise questionable unlock criteria so that players are informed with plenty of advance notice. I get why "retired" achievements and trophies aren't always handed out, but it should be the standard practice; it should be f??uture-proofed, if possible.

So why is Gears 5 ditching the map builder, anyway? Presumably, too few players engaged with community-created Hive maps for it to be worth dealing with from either an ongoing technical, cost, or customer support standpoint. These modes tend to be pretty finite. I'm not trying to downplay this for folks who liked the map builder, but the wri??t??ing is often on the wall. Maybe next time the mode will be more exhaustive and have more visibility.

In today's map builder removal announcement, The Coalition noted that it's focused on "future projects." The next Gears and a new IP? I hope those rumors pan out.

Bond could be back in action on the Xbox

A leaked set of achievements seem to indicate that classic console FPS Goldeneye 007 could be coming to the Xbox ecosystem. As logged on TrueAchievements, a full set of rewards for a version of Goldeneye 007 has appeared online.

T??he nabbed list of achievements has 55 tasks to complete for 1,000 gamerscore. These include obvious ones, like completing maps like Dam and Facility on any difficulty. But there are others with more specific requirements, like some for unlocking Paintball Mode and the Golden Gun, or scoring 100 kills in multiplayer match??es. My favorite is definitely the achievement for playing Slappers Only on Complex.

Back in 1997 when it first launched, Goldeneye 007 was the hallmark of dorm room splitscreen parties on the Nintendo 64. Its legacy has remained over the years too, even as more re-releases and updated versions have arrived. That includes a Wii version of Goldeneye 007 and Goldeneye 007: Reloaded.

Still, a lot of fans want the original back in its original form. The classic Goldeneye 007 was noticeably absent from the Rare Replay collection, though. And attempts have been made in the past by Rare and Microsoft, though they reportedly ran into complications.

The achievements leaking certainly seem like a surefire smoking Golden Gun for a modern Goldeneye port. And honestly, the time does seem right; my nostalgia for an older era of console shooters has been in overdrive with the launch of Halo Infinite. I was also prone to the occasional splitscreen Slappers Only match myself, and I'm interested to see what Goldeneye ?is like, decades of console FPS development later.

We'll see in the coming weeks and months of the new year, I imagine, how this all pans out. But with the blue-checkmark James Bond Twitter account hinting at special things to come in celebration of Bond's 60th, Goldeneye 007 sure seems primed to re-emerge.

The Epic launcher is getting some new tools. Today, Epic announced that it's rolling out some new tools f??or deve??lopers to add Achievements into their games, dubbed "Epic Achievements."

Games with Epic Achievements will let you rack up XP by completi??ng trophies, split up into four different tiers and with different XP levels for each. Bronze nets you 5 to 45 XP, while P?latinum Achievements are worth 250 XP.

These will all go into your Achievements page, where you can showcase what you've got so far and track progress towards those still remaining. The feature is rolling out next week for a select number of games: Rocket League, Hades, Pillars of Eternity, Humankind, Zombie Army 4, and Defense Grid.

As Epic notes in its blog today, there were achievements launched for developers last year. It calls these "developer achievements," which are fully owned and operated by the game developers. Epic says its system will add addition??al benefits for players and bring them "more in line with achievement systems on other platforms." Developer achievements will not go away, either.

It?? sounds like there's more to come for the Epic Games Store in the future as well, as ??the platform owner says there will be new social features and player rewards later this year.

Epic has been gradually upgrading its platform over the years, adding features like wishlisting and hosting coupon sales. I'm not much of an achievement hunter myself, but I'm interested to see what Epic does with its new system, and how it ends up comparing to other launchers and platforms with similar systems. Really, I just hope there's a Rocket League achievement called "Nice shot!"

Long but not hard

You may be well aware, but in the unlikely event that you're somehow not: Cyberpunk 2077 releases tomorrow. Technically, that might only be a few hours from now if you're playing on PC, as t?here's ??a global launch that hits at 4pm Pacific. On consoles, it's midnight for every region.

We've played some of it. You should check out our Cyberpunk 2077 review-in-progress if you're interested in how it's shaping up. Or, you could just go in blind tomorrow. If you want the low-down on the achievements and trophies, we've got that too, courtesy of Xbox Achievements.

Surprisingly, for a game this big and detailed and long and full, Cyberpunk 2077's achievements don't look too overly complicated. There's nothing wild like necessitating a pacifist run for full completion. You only need to give it ?one playthrough. There's also nothing missable apart from using your lifepath dialogue option 10 times (and once you know that's a requirement, it'll be very easy to fulfill). For those of you looking for a low-stress time, you should be able to knock this all out on Easy, as there's nothing related to difficulties.

That doesn't mean it'll be quick, though. It kind of looks like you'll have to do everything in Night City to hit the 1000GS or Platinum trophy. Complete all gigs and NCPD Scanner Hustles in each region and then some collectible-seeming stuff adds up to a rather long game. The PowerPyx walkthrough estimates a 60-70 hour completion -- 20ish for critical path story and then? another 40-50 for side content.

Now that you achievement and trophy hunters know what you're get?ting into, prepare to spend a lot of time jacked into the Matrix. This is about the Matrix, ??right?

Plunking down $500 isn't the only way to get ahold of an Xbox Series X this holiday. You could get lucky and win one from Taco Bell. Or, you could become such an elite video game player that Microsoft feels?? compelled to give you an Xbox Series X.

Microsoft has a new Xbox Hall of Fame promotion where it's "celebrating gamers who've achieved excellence on Xbox One." Over the course of the next couple months, Microsoft is inducting 8 people from 13 regions (104 total winners) into the Hall of Fame for various short- and long-term accomplishm??ents. Your shot at some of them is long gone, but maybe you can give some other competitions the ol' college try.

You're good, but are you Hall of Fame good? Maybe you can mess around a bit on Forza and end up with an unbeatable lap time. You're probably long past the point of getting any of those lifetime achievements. That's what a lifetime achievement award is worth

Most of us have to play our games to get our Gamerscore. It's tough work but it's an honest living. To??dd Howard, however, just has to exist t??o earn Gamerscore.

Alongside this morning's bombshell news that Microsoft acquired ZeniMax Media, renowned game developer Todd Howard shared a letter that details his p?artnerships with Xbox have meant to him over the last 20 years of his career. It's a lot of talk about shared visions and perspective changing.

However, it ends on a cute story about GDC 2016 where Howard was given a lifetime achievement award. It's worth hearing straight ??from the horse's mouth, so here's the anecdote in full:

At Bethesda, we've been lucky enough to create games we love,?? and have an audience who loves them as much as we do. I have personally been humbled by the many industry honors I have received, as they belong to the entire studio. But one has always stood out to me for a special reason. When I received the Lifetime Achievement Award at GDC, I joked in my acceptance "I wonder how many achievement points this one is worth?" At the end of the ceremony, some good friends from Microsoft congratulated me and said they'd find out. A few months later I was given a code to a game they had created, named after me and locked to my account. When ran, it unlocks a single achievement -- "Lifetime - 1000pts." It still sits in my list when I check, and I smile every time.

That's right, Microsoft employees mad??e a "game" for Howard that simply exists to automatically unlock 1,000 Gamerscore. That's exactly what a lifetime achievement award is worth ?in terms of gamer cred.

The joke's on him though. Howard had to spend his entire adult life creating some of the most famous video games of all-time to earn 1,000 Gamerscore. Most of you got that in two minutes by playing Avatar: The Burning Earth. Sucker.

Get better friends

The Turbo Tunnel was the end of the road for most Battletoads players. The infamous bike stage -- on?ly the third level in the game -- was so difficult that most people never progressed p?ast it. It was like running into a brick wall both literally and figuratively.

The Battletoads that launches t?his week probably won't have anything so notoriously punitive. Developers generally want players to finish their games nowadays. There's a bike level though because?? paying tribute is important. And there's an achievement tied to it that might ruin some friendships.

Xbox Wire released most of the Battletoads achievements today (save for five secret, probably story-spoiling ones) and "Live and Let Driv??e" sticks out like a sore thumb. You'll need everyone to stay alive on bikes for 5 straight minutes in three-player co-op. Jordan's input on this challenge is that he played the bike level at a show with another journ??????????????????????????alist and they "died a lot." However, Jordan did not have the familiarity, memorization, and practice that you and your friends will eventually have. I'm confident you can do it, even if it requires finding more talented friends.

In Paris, they call it Gears Royale with Cheese

It isn't rare for developers to pack achievement names with pop culture references. That has been happening ever since the invention of achievements, all the way back to the launch of the Xbox 360 when Microsoft mandated that each retail game include 1000 Gamerscore and each Xbox Live Arcade game include 200 Gamerscore. (Hilarious-in-hindsight footnote: Remember when XBLA capped its games at 50MB file sizes, and then kept pushing it upward when they realized games like Portal: Still Alive would make a bajillion dollars?)

It is, however, rare for a developer to lean into one single source of inspiration as heavily as Splash Damage does with Pulp Fiction. The Gears Tactics achievement list is just lousy with Pulp Fiction references. "The path of the righteous man," "Great vengeance and furious anger," "Everyone stay cool, this is a robbery!" (which is actually a slight misquote), "Aw man, I shot Marvin in the f??ace." The list goes on and on. My favorite? Obviously "Check out the big brain on? Brett."

Splash Damage is no stranger to pop culture achievements. Brink (2011) was one of the last games Splash Damage was the lead developer on (it mostly serves as a support studio for Xbox nowadays), and it had references to the likes of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. However, this laser-focused obsession with Tarantino's 26-year-old film is a new lane, and I respect it. Pulp Fiction is quotabl?e as he??ll. There are far worse movies to pay homage to.

A long list of challenges to work through

Try as you might, you can't escape FTL: Faster Than Light – not for good. One decent run is all it takes to reel you in and remind you jus??t how potent Subset Games' ship-managing roguelike? title can be.

In 2020, Subset is still breathing new life into its 2012 release. The studio is adding 51 Steam achievements to FTL to bring players back into the fray and push th?em out of their comfort zones.

• Just Getting Started - Get to sector 5.
• Battle Royale - While using the Mantis Cruiser, kill the last enemy with your last crew member on their ship.
• Phase Shift - With the Stealth Cruiser, avoid 9 points of damage during a single cloak.
• Tactical Approach - With the Stealth Cruiser, get to sector 8 without jumping to a beacon with an environmental danger.
• Robotic Warfare - With the Engi Cruiser, have 3 drones functioning at the same time.

These achievements should look familiar to longtime players.

The team's latest game, Into the Breach, made wonderful use of meta challenges as a way to encourage players to try new tactics and master the mechanics from top to bottom. I gained an even greater appreciation for the cunning mech title, and I'm hoping FTL's Steam achievements have a similar effect.

More ?than anything, it's just nice to hear Subset come up in the news again. They have a magic?? touch.

Chasing Jill

Resident Evil 2 fans on Steam have waited weeks for more ??insight into a mysterious, unfinalized achievement. Today, we have a name and description: "Chasing Jill - Read a letter left behind by Jill."

As predicted, this Jill Valentine achievement ties into the newly-revealed Resident Evil 3 remake.

There was already a Nemesis-sized hole in Resident Evil 2's police station. At some point in the near future, there will be a letter to connect the dots even further. While the achievement is viewable on Steam right now, it hasn't made it?s way to PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, and the content isn't live yet.

[Update: Players have located Jill's letter on PS4 – it's in Kendo's Gun Shop. Just make sure you have update 1.05 installed. Capcom also has a new demo for Resident Evil 2 in which Nemesis speaks.]

??Capcom is on such a roll lately. The streak can't last forever, so I'm cherishing it with all my heart.

His laser eyes aren't a new weapon, unfortunately

Not long after players fire up Gears 5 next month -- assuming they go straight into the campaign and not the versus mode or the horde mode or the Escape mode -- they'll earn an achievement that nods knowingly to a well-worn gaming meme. That alone isn't surprising, but the man b??ehind the meme steered one of Xbox's biggest competitors until recently.

Gears 5 went gold ahead of its September 6 launch. Alongside that milestone, developer The Coalition revealed the game's achievements. The campaign's first achievement is called "My Body is Ready" and it's earned by completing boot camp (presumably the tutorial section). The phrase "my body is ready" was turned into Nintendo ex-president of North America Reggie Fils-Aime's catchphrase after he said it live on-stage at E3 2007 during a Wii Fit presentation:

Fils-Aim??e retired in April, going out as one of the more popular and beloved exe??cutives the video game industry has ever seen. That means Fils-Aime has time to notice and acknowledge the reference, publicly thanking Xbox head Phil Spencer along the way:

Mein Relief

An earmark of the new Wolfenstein games, at least for completionists, is that they are oppressively hard. Each entry has increasingly-tough difficulty-related achievements/trophies. Wolfenstein: New Order and Old Blood required beating on the Uber difficulty, the most challenging setting developer MachineGames came up with. The ante is upped significantly in Wolfenstein II : The New Colossus with Mein Leben mode; Mein Leben is the toughest difficulty with permadeath. Fail a single time and you're right back to the ??opening cutscene.

None of that, surprisingly, is the case with Wolfenstein: Youngblood. MachineGames breaks the trend so that completionists won't have to break a sweat. Youngblood's achievements/trophies have released, and there's nothing related to difficulty. Actually, it seems like you're only expected to spend a good chunk of time with the game to nab everything. Also, there's very little emphasis on cooperative play for a game whose defining hook is that it's Wolfenstein but with co-op.

Without some Mein Leben nonsense in the way, you're (probably) ?clear to snag a platinum trophy if that's your style. Or, just enjoy the Soph and Jess Rollercoaster and don't worry about optional objectives. But, completionist types will celebrate like it's Victory i??n Europe Day.

I was never going to reach Pirate Legend, but that doesn't mean I can't still have fun making a dent in the sluggish Sea of Thieves achievement list. Coinciding with the game's multifaceted Anniversary Update that adds The Arena, co??oking, fishing, and Tall Tales, Rare has devised 43 new achievements.

Basically, they're designed to nudge players in the right direction as they explore the Anniversary Update on April 30 and beyond. That goes for PvP (are you ready to earn first place 100 different times?), the story-heavy Shores of Gold quests, fishin??g (gotta catch 'em all!), and preparing meals.

Speaking of which, there's an achievement for consuming raw food and Rare's accompanying image is just perfect. In fact, it's worth perusing the whole gallery while we wait for the update to go live.

Are you worthy of legend?

Devil May Cry 5 is good and Devil May Cry 5 is tough. This combination is about the best possible outcome for a Devil May Cry game. It's so wonderfully excellent that we awarded it a perfect 10 score.

However, anyone motivated enough to chase down all the achievements or trophies is in for one hell of a monumental task. Ahead of tomorrow's Devil May Cry 5 launch, we've gotten a peek ??at the tr?ophy list. They won't come easy.

The obvious biggie is the "Worthy of Le??gend" trophy that requires beating every mission with an S rank on all difficulties except for Heaven and Hell mode. That means playing the game five different times, and being proficient enough to earn each mission's highest ranking. It's not easy being this stylish -- especially when you consider t??hat Hell and Hell mode cranks up each enemy's health and leaves the player to die with a single hit.

Who's up for a challenge??? Hell, who's physically capable of getting this platinum, nevermind the ridiculous mental dedication it'll require? The good news is that compared to "Worthy of Legend," everything else is a cakewalk.

Nothing here seems too unreasonable

Anthem has spent a lot of time as of late underlining its endgame content -- specifically how tough an??d rewarding it can be. As with any live game like this, it's a priority to keep players invested after they storm through the main missions. H??owever, any Freelancers who are hunting trophies or achievements might not feel the need to stick around.

Anthem's trophy/achievement list has been found, and it doesn't seem particularly demanding. Everything appears to be attainable through story quests, gear upgrades, miscellaneous challenges, and exploration. There's nothing akin to clearing a?? raid with a full party without a single player dying.

The platinum trophy seems fairly easy as most everything on this list is anchored in spending time with the game, not in being particularly proficient. But, Anthem could throw us a curveball, and something here is deceptively hard. We won't know for sure until Anthem releases on February 22.

Multiplayer is nowhere to be found

Microsoft's rules around achievements have been mostly steadfast over the past two generations of consoles. Every game launches with 1,000 Gamerscore, with a few exceptions made along the way for day-one DLC situations. Crackdown 3 might wildly deviate from that norm.

Some data mining sites have found the Crackdown 3 achievements, and there's a glaring omission: There's not a single achievement dedicated to the multiplayer mode. Microsoft has expended significant energy talking about Crackdown 3's mult??iplayer and its cloud-based ?destruction. It's not an afterthought, unworthy of any achievements.

Rather, Microsoft has splintered Crackdown 3 into two separate downloads -- one for the standard campaign and another for the Wrecking Zone five-on-five multiplayer. Here's a look at how the Microsoft Store presents the Crackdown 3 bundle:

The prevalent theory right now is that the campaign and Wrecking Zone will each have their own separate achievement lists, both worth a full 1,000 Gamerscore. That'd make it the single biggest Gamerscore launch in Xbox history apart from titles like Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Rare Replay which bundle several games together.

That being said, there are really only?? two possibilities: Either there are two achievement lists or there are no multiplayer achievements. The former seems much more realistic than the latter. We've asked Microsoft to clarify, but haven'??t received a response at time of writing.

REplay

Aside from being an all-around great series, one reason Resident Evil has been so enduring is its replayability. Your first run is the warmup, then comes the real fun. The trophies for Resident Evil 2 (2019) are only going to help in that regard, and I'm hoping to revisit the remake throughout th?e year.

The road to platinum will include more than a few detours and even some potholes, as evidenced by the complete Resident Evil 2 trophy list. We'll need to survive the terrors of Raccoon City with Leon and C?laire, do it again on Hardcore mode, and even earn S ?ranks for the dynamic duo.

Then there's weird stuff. The challenges that require a deeper understanding of the game, efficiency, and good old-fashioned planning. Can I clear Resident Evil 2 without taking mor??e than 14,000 steps? I don't know! But I'm curious to see what that deceptively straightforward pedometer trophy entails.

Sometimes, completionists have to write off a game as a lost cause. Whether due to technical hurdles like online services shutting down, high s??kill-based challenges, or time-consuming requirements, achieving 100 percent completion in certain games isn't realistic even for the most dedicated? players.

That's Sea of Thieves in a nutshell. Even after a? number of tweaks, it's still one hell of a grind.

The biggest offender was "Merchant Forager," an achievement for successfully delivering 1,000 banana crates. As one redditor put it, "I've o??nly seen two banana crates in probably 200 hours of play time."

In an update this week, Rare loosened the criteria for this and similar milestone-based achievements including "Black Powder Merchant," "Merchant Voyager," "Voyager of Lost Souls," "Golden Voyager," "Hoarder of Barnacled Gold," "Hoarder of the Captain's Gold," and "Master Hunter of Villainous Skulls." Sea of Thieves players who already put? in the time will come away with an exclusive commemorative sail for their ship "in the near future"; everyone else gets the gift of less-insane achievements.

A player by the name of Zyx recently became the first person to legitimately earn every achievement in the game. Speaking to True Achievements, he estimates the journey spanned around 2,000 hours over the course of eight months, summing up the experience as "few sprints, many ??marathons."

"I very much enjoy this game and coming back to it with friends for every new event and DL??C will be funny," he continued, "but now finally I have some freedom to play other games too."

I'm not sure when I did it, but at some point, I marked tomorrow on my Google Calendar as "Stanley Parable Achievement." I had to remind myself what that meant earlier this week, but it eventually dawned on me that The Stanley Parable has an achievement for not playing the game for five years.

The Stanley Parable was released on Steam on October 17, 2013. Today is exactly five years later. For many, myself included, the wait is a little longer -- according to Steam I last played the game on D??ecember 3, 2013. But at the very least, it's a good time to look at the last time you played the game and ?maybe mark the five year anniversary on your Google Calendar?

It's been three years since Zack-with-the-great-hair reported that an ESRB listing for The Talos Principle on Xbox One could mean that the philosophical puzzler was about to wash up on Xbox's shores. While there hasn't been any recent word from Croteam about this port, The Talos Principle showed up on the achievement tracker website Xboxachievements overnight. Could this possibly mean that the r??elease is right around the corner?

With no official statement from Croteam, all we have to go off of is the listing, which means no release window, or price point. It does look like the release will be similar to the PlayStation 4 port that contained the Road to Gehenna expansion as Gehenna achievements are present on the list. That's not to say that they will be sold separately but I can't see Croteam/Devolver giving Xbox users a big middle finger like that, especia?lly after such a long wait.

I try not to hype things up for myself or other people because I feel like hype is a dangerous thing and ultimately leads to disappointment when you finally get to play the final product; but The Talos Principle is without a doubt one of the best games I've ever pl?ayed. The writi?ng is beautifully poetic, the gameplay relaxing to a point of zen and the expansion feels like an actual expansion of old. Whenever this does come to Xbox One, it would be well worth your time and money.

Nearly 3 years later and it would appear Fallout Shelter is finally making its way to the PlayStation 4. This news comes from a leaked trophy list for the game that has shown up on Exophase, a website that lets you track your PSN, Xbox, Steam, Origin, and Blizzar??d ?activity (including trophies and achievements).

Notably, if this leak is real, Fallout Shelter also appears to include a platinum trophy -- which I imagine is great news for all you hardcore trophy hunters out there. Ou??t??side of that, however, all the trophies are pretty much the same as the Xbox One achievements.

If this trophy listing is legitimate, this will be a great excuse to once again invite random wastelanders to my Vault, only to immediately send them back out to find something that proves they're worthy of joining. But, with Bethesda's conference coming up this Sunday at 6:30 PM PT (9:30 PM ??ET), I'm sure we'll get more informati??on and an official announcement then. Here's hoping they also announce a Nintendo Switch version alongside it.

Looks like we're going to the moon

It's clear Arkane Studios isn't done with Prey, one of our favorite games of last year.

A couple of months ago, the developer posted teaser-y images and hinted at an announcement scheduled for June 10 (the same day as Bethesda's E3 press conference) with some real gross eyes. Earlier today, Arkane added a batch of conspicuous new achievements to the PC version of Prey.

Together, they spell out the messa?ge "If you believed they put a man on the moon."

The race is surely on to figure out what's needed to unlock these achievements and if doing so brings any new information to light ahead of the June 10 reveal. I'm expecting more ARG shenanigans.

One user on reddit, judgedead53, ??claims to have already "obtained 'You' by killing [spoiler] at the end when he's preventing me from activating the?? nullwave device."

My big question at this point is whether or not the new content will be standalone. I always appreciated that approach for Dishonored and think it makes a lot of sense for Prey, too. We'll just have to see.

Take a cue from Battlefield

With school and travel and other games competing for our attention, it's been a while since Ray and I have sat down to play some PUBG together for fun, much less for the sake of a video. But, as you'll quickly see, the allure of emotes and newly-added Steam achievements proved ??too temptin?g to resist.

We hadn't necessarily planned to share this footage, but way too many weirdly lucky things happe??ned as the achievement criteria pushed us to play in new and increasingly idiotic ways. First blood? Got it. Pan kill? Easy peasy. Getting into an enemy's vehicle? Somehow, some way, we both pulled it off.

I'd love to see PUBG add more ridiculous objectives for players to try and complete. At a certain point, a win is just a win, and it doesn't carry the same weight it once di?d. Let's spice it up.

The_Happy_Hob confirmed happier

A dedicated Dark Souls fan has completed a run of the game's entire trilogy without taking a single hit. The_Happy_Hob streamed the nerve-wracking achievement, a year in the making, on his Twitch channel. The final moment (which contains loud profanity) can be seen right here.

To qualify for the No-Hit run, Hob was required to play through all three titles without being struck by a single enemy, outside of a scripted death to Seathe the Scaleless. Last month, Hob made it to the very end of the run, but took a heartbreaking hit on the final boss of the final game. Damn.

But that's ancient history, as the dedicated player finally completed the notoriously difficult trilogy this weekend, understandably losing his mind upon taking down Dark Souls boss Gwyn (Hob ran through the ga?me?s in reverse order). Great work!

For those about to grind

The trophy/achievement list for Monster Hunter: World has leaked a few days ahead of the game's release, and it indicates what we probably could've guessed: It's going to ??take a serious time commitment to ge?t them all.

PowerPyx discovered the trophies list (achievements should be the exact same minus the platinum), and it indicates that nabbing everything will require scouring every corner of the world. There are a lot of cumulative-based tasks like earning a certain amount of money or hunting a certain number of different kinds of monsters. There's also one for reaching rank 100, which is presumably the highest rank possible. (Update: Commenters h??ave insinuated that rank 100 is probably far from the highest rank.)

However, it's the crowns that are the most intimidating. Monster Hunter's beasts a?ll have randomized sizes each time you encounter them. If you're lucky enough t??o hunt one that's at the extreme end of the spectrum (either small or large), you'll earn a crown for your guild card.

Two of the trophies make use of the crown system. They're acquired by "Obtain[ing] a miniature crown for almost every monster in your hunting log" and "Obtain[ing] a giant crown for almost every monster in your hunting log." There wil??l likely be 50-some monsters at launch (the final number isn't confirmed yet) and seeing these varia?tions will rely entirely on RNG. It could take a very long time.

A crummy commercial!

While it was announced that there wouldn't be any microtransactions in WWE 2K18 this week, a little detail escaped unchecked? about a few of the achievements/trophies. While most of the achievements are just normal run-of-the-mill ones there are three that stand out in particular to me. Just take a look at them.

Well, there you have it. Do you have what it takes to prove that your hunger to win is greater than the general concept of hunger? Do you bring more reversals into a match than the Colonel brings herbs an??d spices to his chicken? Can you end your match before big tobacco will end our youths' chance at a healthy lifest?yle? Then maybe you have what it takes to be advertised to!

In all honesty that last one is alright because it's a campaign to end smoking which isn't nearly the same as trying to get you to buy overpriced fried chicken but still, is this where we are headed? Sure Final Fantasy XV was a bit more egregious with their product placement but can't we have a little nuance from our corporate overlords? Unless this is their solution fo??r taking out microtransactions in full-priced games that also sell DLC, which I? can't believe is something that needs to be praised. Regardless if that is the case I guess I'll bite this bullet and learn to love being slapped in the fact with advertisements everywhere.

Tiny devs leak the darndest things!

Reddit AMAs with game developers always have the possibility of revealing an interesting nugget of information we never knew and a recent one with Lichtspeer developer Lichtund may have given us a most juicy bit of gossip from the world of Nintendo. According to the developer, Nintendo is?? working on some sort of achievement or leaderboard system for the Switch.

That's one way to get the internet talki??ng about your easily overl??ooked game!

I’m not a huge fan of the Trophy system on my PlayStation cause I just don’t care that much, but if this would somehow let me show the world just how much ass I kick at Mario Kart, then hell, give us achievements?. It’s a shot in the dark but I could totally see the system ?hooking up to My Nintendo, which would be really cool if My Nintendo was worth anything at all.

Either way, if we’re getting some sort of system-wide profile program like achievements, I don’t expect it to launch until we actually start paying for the online service in 2018.
