Last week saw the exciting new trailer for the upcoming Fallout show. While the adaptation is going to be telling its own story, you may be wondering whether it might touch on Fallout 5's possible narrative, even accidentally. However, Todd Howard has made sure that hasn't h??appened.

In a recent interview with Den of Geek (as spotted by VGC), the show's executive producer Jonathan Nolan clarified whether the TV series is, to some extent, Fallout 5. Nolan says a conversation between him and Todd discussed the idea of the show being a part of the overall Fallout universe, rather than being a retelli??ng of ??one of the game's stories.

Todd Howard then said he made sure the showrunners didn't do certain things. He said he told the crew, "don't do this, because we're going to do that in Fallout 5." There's even a joke about how the adaptation is almost like Fallout 6. But the consensus is that the show is its own story and doesn't tread on anything ??that's come before ?or after it in terms of arc.

Speaking of Fallout 5...

When Bethesda confirmed the next Fallout game was currently being worked on, I think it's safe to assume people thought it was too early to make such an announcement. Starfield was still very much in development at the time, and we still have absolutely no idea what's going on with The Elder Scrolls 6 since that 2018 E3 tease.

In short: don't expect Todd to start giving away too much about F5 or TES6 anytime soon. I think he's still coasting on the (ahem) success of Starfield, but hopefully, the studio is making some headway on the? new projects.

In the meantime, Fallout ??will be airing on April 11 via Amazon Prime Video.

After years of hints and developments, we've finally gotten our first look at the live-action Borderlands. People ??has revealed two pictures of the upcoming?? film, due to release in August.

And for another early look, IGN released a short teaser, which conf??irms a trailer drop tomorrow,?? February 21.

According to the trailer via IGN f?or their Fan Fest, the full trailer is expected to launch on February 21, 2024. As we can see, it's colorful, vibrant, and hectic as hell. So far, that seems on par with the looter shooter's style. The trailer description gives a bit of context for the madness, as we follow Lilith and her ragtag crew as they rescue Atlas' daughter on Pandora.

Locked and Loaded

In the first photo via People Magazine, we get our first full look at our colorful main cast of 'heroes'. Fans will immediately recognize some characters like Claptrap (played by Super Mario Bros. Movie's Jack Black), Tiny Tina (Barbie's Ariana Greenblatt), and Lilith (Tar's Cate Blanchett).

It is weird seeing Kevin Hart (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) and Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything, Everywhere, All at Once) here, as bot?h look a bit different than their original counterparts—Roland and Tannis, respectively. And yes, Tiny's bodyguard Krieg—played by Shang-Chi's F??lorian Munteanu—is here, with his signature mask.

The second image is solely focused on Cate Blanchett's Lilith. Her striking red hair translated pretty well on-screen. Though we still have yet to see any footage, this does seem like a step in the right direction. Announced in 2015, the Lionsgate film has gone through a lot, as directors changed and reshoots occurred behind the scenes.

I haven't played Borderlands much outside of Telltale's Tales from the Borderlands, but I have a basic idea of the cel-shaded style and looter shooter gameplay. I'm unsure how much of that will translate well onto the silver screen, yet these pictures make me a bit ho??peful. The cast is pretty stacked and it does seem to feel consisten?t with the game's designs. All eyes are on for the trailer tomorrow, so here's hoping this turns out to be on the good side of video game adaptations.

A PlayStation horror classic is being reborn as a film. The choose-your-own-nightmare from Supermassive Games, Until Dawn, is one of the latest video games announced to make the jump from your livi?ng room TV to the big scree?n, though this one seems far more straightforward.

According to Hollywood Reporter, PlayStation Productions and Screen Gems are adapting 2015’s Until Dawn with director David F. Sandburg and writer Gary Dauberman. The original tale revolved around eight teens surviving a fear-filled hell in the middle of a ??wintry retreat, entrusting their fate with the player.

The film doesn't have a release date or casting yet. Hollywood Reporter notes Screen Gems describes the apparent R-rated adaptation as a love letter to the horror genre and centers its ensemble cast. No details on Until Dawn's story have been revealed yet, either. It's safe to say there's a clear-cut formula there for a film to follow, but perhaps Hollywood has a few tricks in store for a proper homage to Until Dawn's interactivity.

Cabin in the (Wintry) Woods

For those who don’t know, Until Dawn, released in 2015 by Supermassive Games, is an interactive horror where your actions have dire consequences. The title, which came out during an onslaught of choice-heavy games like Telltale’s The Walking Dead and Dragon Age: Inquisition, was a hit for players. The vast ways events can play out, terrifying jumpscares, and great cast (including now Osc??ar-winning actor Rami Malek) made it a staple of the PlaySta??tion 4. 

Fast forward to now, almost nine years since its release, it re-emerges thanks to PlayStation and Screen Gems. As previously mentioned, the film already has a director and writer attached. In the director’s chair is David F. Sandburg, who is most known for his Shazam films for DC.

David started in horror, directing Annabelle: Creation and Lights Out alongside writer Gary Dauberman. Gary is pretty big with horror, writing many of The Conjuring spin-off films like Annabelle and The Nun, as well as both It and It: Chapter Two. The script comes from a pass by Blair Butler (The Invitation).

Personally, the many lets-plays of Until Dawn (looking at you, M?arkiplier) convinced me to rent the game. It only took me some 30 minutes in to bail, thanks to the choice overload, so maybe watching someone else lead the way is more my speed. Therefore, I am curious to see what David, Gary, and the crew behind this new adaptation have in store. With the many game adaptations in the works right now, it's good to hav?e some idea of where it'll go.

My biggest wish is for a killer cast, pun intended. Put some fresh and familiar ?horror actors in there and you'll have yourself a real strong horror film. And turn up the campiness. If? it's going to be a love letter, you have to embrace the nostalgia and run with it. However, do be wary of branches. That's a QTE.

Another lead in The Last of Us Part II has been cast for its TV adaptation. The second season of HBO’s The Last of Us has found its Dina in Instant Family’s Isabela Merced.

The news, tweeted by Max and Naughty Dog, is the third casting for the new season in the past few days. The first was Booksmart’s Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, and soon after, Beef's Young Mazino as Jesse.

Creators Neil Druckmann and showrunner/director Craig Mazin talked about Merced and Dina with Variety, saying "Dina is warm, brilliant, wild, funny, moral, dangerous, and instantly lovable. You can search forever for an actor who effortlessly embodies all of those things, or you can find Isabela Merced right away. We couldn’t b?e prouder to have her join our family."

The video game adaptation, starring Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones), is fresh off winning eight Creative Emmys and is nominated for five main Primetime Emmy awards, including Best Drama. Dina, according to an official description by Variety, is said to be “a free-wheeling spirit whose devotion to Ellie will be tested by the brutality of the world they inhabit.�Shannon Woodward (Westworld) voiced the role for the game, while Cascina Caradonna was the face model.? The character plays a huge role in the sequel, as a romantic interest for both Ellie and Jesse.

Making Things Click

Isabela Merced is a pretty big actress, if her resume is anything to go by. Breaking onto the scene with films like Sicario: Day of the Soldado and Transformers: The Last Knight, her title role in Dora and the Lost City of Gold shot her to stardom. Now, one can find her appearing in some big franchises in the future, like Alien (Alien: Romulus) DC (Superman: Legacy), and Spider-Man (Madame Web).

With such a busy schedule, it's impressive that Merced is doing this big?? a role while filming franchise titles. I, for one, can't wait to see her take on a character as deep and strong as Dina.

Season two of The Last of Us is scheduled to film later this year and release sometime next year. Odds are, with HBO's cadence of casting announcements, there's probably still more to come. If you want to refresh yourself on Dina’s part in the games, The Last of Us Part II Remastered arrives for PS5 next week on January 19.

We see you, Halo. Season 2 of Paramount Plus' video game adaptation received its official trailer today and looks, dare I say, promising.

Earlier in December, Halo season 2 got a small teaser, which uses some of the shots in the trailer. Alongside the reveal was its release date, February 8th, and a YouTube release of the first season.

According to the YouTube description, in Halo season 2, "Master Chief John-117 leads his team of elite Spartans against the alien threat known as th??e Covenant. As humanity’s best hope for winning the war, John-117 discovers his deep connection to a mysterious alien structure that holds the key to humankind’s salvation, or its destruction �the Halo."

Hello Halo, it's good to see you again

The trailer shows a lot of action, which was a hit with original audiences. Personally, it does look more like an adaptation of the games than the first season, which I briefly watched. I did spy someone using dual pistols, a famous game mechanic introduced in Halo 2. Of c?ourse, we do see Energy Swords, a boat-ton of them, in one shot. There are some promising shots in the trailer, which gets me kind of? excited to see this new season.

Despite Halo receiving mixed reviews, the viewership was record-breaking for Paramount Plus, easily prompting a season two renewal. Controversially, the show’s first episode had Master Chief take his helmet off (and he takes off more than just that). He still looks to have his helmet off this time, but it's not as bothe??rsome as before, personally.

Halo stars Pablo Schreiber (Narcos) as Master Chief/John-117 and Jen Taylor (Halo: Combat Evolved) as Cortana, whom we got to speak to before the first season's release. The supporting cast boasts the likes of Charlie Murphy (Happy Valley), Natascha McElhone (The Truman Show), and Bokeem Woodbine (Spider-Man: Homecoming), just to name a few. So, if you have time to kill, you can watch all the episodes free of charge via this playlist and finish the fight before February 8.

Another actor has been cast for the next season of The Last of Us. HBO's adaptation of the Naughty Dog series has found its Jesse in Beef’s Young Mazino.

The news, tweeted by Max and Naughty Dog, comes a day after Booksmart’s Kaitlyn Dev?er was cast as antagonist and dual protagonist Abby.

Creators Neil Druckmann and showrunner/director Craig Mazin confirmed Young Mazino's casting via Variety, saying "Young is one of those rare actors who is immediately undeniable the ??moment you see him. We’re so lucky to have him, and we can’t wait for the audience to see Y??oung shine in our show."

Breaking Out

Young Mazino is a relatively new actor, starting in 2013 and doing small roles in New Amsterdam and Blue Bloods. His big break came with the 2023 Netflix acclaimed limited series Beef as Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead)’s brother Paul Cho. He’s currently nominated for the Primetime Emm??y Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for his role, alongside his co-star Joseph Lee.

I have yet to see Beef, though it is high up there considering it's been dominating the Miniseries category at awards shows thus far. Taking a chance on promising actors is always a win in my book. With that, Young Mazino seems like a great choice to play Jesse, a personal favorite of mine in The Last of Us Part II.

Season two of The Last of Us is scheduled to film later this year and release sometime next year. With HBO announcing two roles in quick succession, I ??have a hunch we might hear more about other roles soo??n too.

Naughty Dog and HBO confirmed the news on Twitter. She was previously rumored to play the character, ??but no?w it’s official that Dever will take on the role.

Laura Bailey (Marvel’s Spider-Man 2) was the actor for Abby in the video game The Last of Us Part II, garnering her a Best Performance award at the The Game Awards 2020.

Brains and Brawn

Kaitlyn is a very inspired choice for the second protagonist/main antagonist of The Last of Us sequel. She’s a big up-and-coming actress whose biggest roles include her Emmy-nominated role as Betsy in the mini-series Dopesick. Many people might know her as the dual protagonist in Olivia Wilde’s coming-of-age comedy Booksmart, which was one of the funniest films I’ve seen in recent years. Recently, she starred in the Hulu-exclusive alien film No One Will Save You.

Funny enough, this isn’t her first time working with Naughty Dog. Spoiler alert for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, but she actually played Nathan a??????????????????????????nd Elena’s daughter, Cassie. Furthermore, when The Last of Us was in the movie stages, creator Neil Druckmann in a Hollyw?ood Reporter interview revealed Kaityln was among the actresses who table read for the role of Ellie, alongside Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones).

Hideo Kojima's work is heading to the silver screen. Announced today, A24 is bringing Kojima Production's Death Stranding into live-action. The film is said to delve into the blurring between life and death, th??e titular “Death S?tranding� that brought horrific monsters into an ever-collapsing world.

The announcement comes days before the game's eighth anniversary. Speaking about the adaptation on his website, Kojima said:

"A24 was born into this world about 10 years ago, their presence is singular within the industry, they are like no other. The films t??hey are delivering to the world are high in quality and very innovative. I have been attracted to their creations and they have even inspired my own work. Their innovative approach to storytelling aligns with what ??Kojima Productions has been doing for the last 8 years.

"Now, we are making a Death Stranding movie together," Kojima stated. "There are a lot of 'game adaptation films' out there but what we are creating is not just a direct translation of the game. The intention is that our audience will not only be fans of the games, but our film will be for anyone who loves cinema. We are creating a Death Stranding universe that has never been seen before, achievable only through the ??medi??um of film, it will be born."

No word? yet on who will take the director's chair ??or other roles on the live-action adaptation.

Building Bridges

For those who don't know, 2019's Death Stranding is about Sam Porter Bridges, who delivers packages all around the broken United States. It's weird, twisted, and definitely the most memorable title of the last decade. The game bolstered an impressive celebrity cast, with the likes of Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead), LĂ©a Seydoux (Spectre), Mads Mikkelsen (Doctor Strange), and Margaret Qualley (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood). It's unknown if any of th??e star-studded cast will reprise their roles for the live-action film.

This is big news for Kojima fans. The creator of Metal Gear is a gigantic cinephile, if his Twitter is anything to go by. This isn't his first film, as he had a documentary, titled Hideo Kojima: Connecting Worlds, which premiered at Sundance Film Festival. It's also expected to be released on Disney+ early next year. Kojima, in gaming, just revealed his newest (and weirdest) project, OD, at this year's Game Awards. Last year, he announced a sequel to Death Stranding, which looks to continue the abstr?act horror the original had.

A24, the company behind the production, is one of Hollywood's biggest up-and-comers. Last year, the studio released Everything, Everywhere, All at Once, which took home seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Other films they have made include Moonlight, Ex Machina, Hereditary, and Midsommar.

As one of my favorite studios in the game, it's weird seeing them take on a big project like this. However, it does fit with their abstract aesthetic and flair for the unique. To be honest, I think that, on paper, it's a definite match. However, it remai?ns to be seen if it'll translat??e into live-action. I'll see you all on the beach.

The adventures of Lara Croft are looking quite promising. As part of Netflix Geeked Week, Legendary Entertainment released a behind-the-scenes look at the Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft series.

Powerhouse Animation Studios, known for its Castlevania series, is taking on the daring archaeologist with the help of Legendary Entertainment. Based on Crystal Dynamics' reboots/prequels, Netflix's Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft sets up the Lara seen in the 1996 original. The video, narrated by Character Design Supervisor Joy Lua, showcases the globe-trotting journeys we'll see her take, as well as some callbacks to dif?ferent games.

Tomb Raider steps out of the shadows for Netflix

The video starts with some drawings and rough storyboard scenes, previewing some of the show's worldwide action. We see Lara snowboarding off a parachute and tr??aversing buildings in Paris like an action hero. As Lara in the reboot trilogy usually stayed in one country, it's cool to see her out and about.

Concepts for the places she'll go (yes, including tombs) are shown toward the end. She'll also sport some new gear, donning a dress in one shot and snow gear in another?. Of course, she'll have her bow, pickaxe, and pistols alongside her. The team aims to provide many Easter?? eggs for longtime fans and bridge the gap between old and new.

While the animated Netflix series picks up after Shadow of the Tomb Raider, reboot era Lara voice actress Camilla Luddington of Grey's Anatomy is not reprising her role, with Marvel the MCU's Agent Carter, Haley Atwell, picking up the dual pistols. Jonah, played by Earl Baylon, is back and given a small look via concept art. As a fan of Castlevania and Powerhouse, as well as the reboots, it seems like Lara is in good ???hands.

Amazon Prime's series adaptation of Bethesda's Fallout franchise now has a release date: April 12, 2024. The announcement was made via Prime Video's Twitter account in celebration of Fallout Day (the day the bombs fell in the original Fallout game).

A Bombshell of a Crew

Video game adaptations have been hit or miss over the years. When we get The Last of Us, we also get Assassin's Creed. While they have been getting better over the years, it remains to be seen how long they'll hold out. Luckily, Fallout is shaping up to be another great adaptati??on, if the production is anything to go by.

Leading development are husband and wife team Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, famous for HBO's underrated sci-fi series Westworld. If the last name Nolan rings a bell, then you'd be right: Jonathan is the brother of legendary director Christopher Nolan (Interstellar, Oppenheimer, Dark Knight trilogy). The techno-fantasy of Westworld fits superbly into the world of Fallout, as well as the themes. The series has been in development since last year.

If that's not enough, the cast is enough to a Deathclaw cry. In top billing are Walton Goggins, Ella Purnell, and Kyle MacLachlan. Funny enough, all three have been in video game-focused content. Goggins, who will play an unnamed Ghoul, was antagonist Mathias in 2018's Tomb Raider film. Purnell, known for her role in Showtime's Yellowjackets, played the crazed Jinx in the critically acclaimed Arcane (or Arcane: League of Legends). Lastly, MacLachlan, famous for Twin Peaks, portrayed Donald Love in Grand Theft Auto III.

The series also stars Xelia Mendes-Jones, Aaron Moten, Michael Emerson, Leslie Uggams, Zach Cherry, Mike Doyle, and Dale Dickey, just to name a few. It's clear that Fallout will be a big one for Amazon Prime. The show even garnered fan-favorite Todd Howard, the series director at Bethesda, as executive producer. The streaming service also plans on adapting the God of War series. No officia??l tra??iler for the project has been released.

Insane Clown Poopy

We now have our first in-episode footage of Peacock's upcoming live-action adaptation, Twisted Metal. As debuted during this afternoon's Summer Game Fest, the clip feat??ured our ragtag prot?agonist (Anthony Mackie) squaring off against serial killer clown and poster villain Sweet Tooth (Samoa Joe).

And honestly... it was pretty fucking rough.

For some reason, the decision was made to showcase a clip from the show that doesn't actually feature any cars whatsoever. It does, however, feature some daylight-bad punches, sub-MCU comedy, and Sisqo's 1999 hit, The Thong Song. I'm a big Twisted Metal fan, and I absolutely do not mind when other media plays with, rearranges, or even reinvents popula??r worlds an?d characters in new and exciting ways.

But this clip was... not good. It wasn't funny, it looked kinda cheap, the displaced Sweet Tooth voice is distracting, and the sense of humor seemed tonally lost both within its own universe and on the silent, ??slow-clapping Summer Game Fest audience??.

Being generous, we'll put this down to a bad choice of clip and see how it all goes down on July 27, when Twisted Metal premieres exclusively on Peacock...

Bandai Namco is releasing a new update for its stalwart anime scrapper Dragon Ball FighterZ, the dazzl??ing,?? still-popular fighting title should be updated to Version 1.32 today across all platforms and territories.

Universal changes across the board see a reduced cooldown on C-Type Z Assists, as well as Ki Gauge adjustments for a handful of characters, namely Hit, Janemba, Vegito, Fused Zamasu Blue Gogeta Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta, and the notoriously powerful Lab Coat Android 21. In addition to these changes, almost the entire roster has received their own individual tweaks �positively or negatively, depending on your viewpoint. In a little bit of bad news, Bandai Namco also announced that i?t has had to delay it?s upcoming rollback netcode beta, which was to be used to test the enhanced connectivity of online matches.

"In regards to the Rollback Netcode implementation, we made an announcement earlier this year that a Beta Test will be carried out on Steam around Spring. However, to further improve and stabilize the experience of the feature, we have decided to postpone the timing of the test," reads a statement from the dev team.

"We apologize for the delay, but the team here is committed to delivering the feature in its best shape, so we hope that players would wait a little longer for further upd??ates regarding timings of the beta test."

Dragon Ball FighterZ, which first launched back in January 2018, has been able to maintain a long life as well as retain a healthy competitive community. This is not only due to the popularity of the DBZ branding itself but also due to Arc System Works meticulous effort in crafting an exciting and engaging fighter that appeals to Dragon Ball fans and fighting game fa?ns who are yet to see a single episode. The title has survived the coming and going of multiple releases from "bigger" fight franchises.

Pre-production continues on New Line's incoming sequel to its surprisingly well-received adaptation Mortal Kombat �The sequel to the 2021 movie is currently in the casting process, with recent reports suggesting Tati Gabrielle is in final talks to pick ??up the mantle of the Edenian assassin, Jade.

TV and fantasy fans will recognize Gabrielle from her recurring roles in various TV series. Gabrielle played Prudence of The Weird Sisters in Netflix' The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, as well as librarian Marienne Bellamy in the acclaimed psychological thriller series You. For video game fans, Gabrielle may be most recognizable from her turn as the villainous mercenary Jo Braddock, who made life difficult for Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg in Sony Pictures' Uncharted.

Gabrielle is a great fit for Jade, who made her debut in 1993's Mortal Kombat II as a hidden character, before b??ecoming a roster mainstay. One of the most popular of the kult kharacters, Jade is typified by her love and loyalty of Princess Kitana, whom she is charged with bodyguarding, and utilizes a mythic Bojutsu staff and boomerang in battle. A master of stealth and assassination, Jade is able to move swiftly in the shadows, practically unseen, before striking with deadly efficiency.

Mortal Kombat 2 is expected to commence shooting this summer. Seeing somewhat more recognizable names such as Gabrielle and Karl Urban show up in casting is perhaps a testament to the original?? film's financial success, clearly allowing New Line to?? throw a little more cash at this sequel and take a few more gambles on its theatrical success.

Mortal Kombat 2 is not to be confused with Mortal Kombat II. Nor is it the sequel to upcoming video game Mortal Kombat 1, nor the original 1995 Mortal Kombat movie.

Return to the Shatterverse

Some good news for fans of the fun and suitably silly animated series, Sonic Prime �Netflix has confirmed that a new season of episodes will be? premiering on?? the streaming service this July.

Premiering back in December of last year, Sonic Prime sees Sonic the Hedgehog thrust into a multiverse known as the "Shatterverse" whereupon he embarks on a series of adventures with ??various al??t-reality versions of his dopey friends, including Tails, Knuckles, Amy Rose, and Rogue.

The first season of dimension-hopping escapades saw The Blue Blur v??isiting a futureworld, the prehistoric era, a pirate world, and more. Also featured in the series was an entire cavalcade of Dr. Robotnik variants, which had all formed a council with to take over the entire Shatterverse.

Running for eight episodes, the show was considered a hit by the Sonic the Hedgehog community, with critics and fans praising the styl??e, animation, scripting. and voice acting on offer, even if the writing was criticized for being a little trite and repetitive. A co-production of Netflix Animation, WildBrain Studios, and Man of Action Entertainment, a total of 24 episodes were commissioned in all, which suggests the new season will feature a further eight adventures, with the remain eight to be screened later this year.

Acclaimed roguelite Dead Cells is getting set to bring its compelling and amorphous adventure to your loca??l coffee table, courtesy of a brand new board game currently in production at Le Scorpion Masque.

The Montreal-based studio, which has previously produced board games such as Decrypto, Zombie Kidz, and Stay Cool, launched a Kickstarter for Dead Cells, which will be the company's first licensed title. While the crowdfunding kicked off with a modest target of around $30,000 USD, the campaign has, at the writing of writing, surpassed a staggering $250,000, with 15 days still?? to go. As such, the game will now go into production. A release window is yet to be announced.

The Dead Cells board game will look to retain both the visual aesthetic, immersive atmosphere, and general gameplay of Motion Twin's 2018 release, as 1-4 players pick their way through ever-shifting dungeons in co-operative action, as they battle through High Peak Castle en route to a confrontation with the nefarious Hand of The King. One of four uniquely skilled Beheaded can be chosen, and the boar??d will retain the Die/Repeat nature of its roguelike origins.

Go Nagai's legendary series hits the shmup scene

Something a bit special from the retro funsters of Hamster this week, as Banpresto's coin-op adaptation of the much-loved manga/anime series Mazinger Z has joined the Arcade Archives, and is now available to download on PS4 and Nintendo Switch.

Released to the Japanese arcade market in 1994, the vertically scrolling shmup is an adaptation of Go Nagai's iconic mecha franchise, which spawned numerous manga, anime, and theatrical films. Players choose from one of three vessels �Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger, or Grendizer �before embarking on a mission to defeat the endless forces of The Mechanical Beasts, Mycenae Forces, and The Vegan Empire, which have combined their power?s in a joint plan to conquer the world. What follows is eight stages of frenetic arcade action, as the Mazinger forces battle the three factio??ns and the mastermind, Dr. Hell.

While the arrival of Mazinger Z is very much a welcome one, it comes at something of a price, quite literally. In order to secure the license to release Mazinger Z, Hamster was pressed to roll out extra Yen to the license holders. The publisher is looking to pass this cost on to the player, as Mazinger Z will retail for twice the price of all Arcade Archives entries. This is the first time that Hamster has had to pay the additional licensing fee, which suggests that any future re-releases based on popular and ??lucrativ?e brands might also see a lift in their retail costs.

It's rough, especially given that many Arcade Archives releases are already a little princely for their longevity, but for Mazinger fans, the extra buckeroos will probably be seen as a bill worth footing??.

Mazinger Z is available to downl?oad now on PS4 and Nintendo Switch priced at around $15.

Capitalism and Crypto breaks all

This weekend saw UDON Comics publish the first issue of Street Fighter 6, a new comic that acts as a prologue to the events of Capcom's upcoming sequel �Issue #1, which is available to download for free right here, follows the journey of Ken Masters, as he visits the wor??ryingly militant district of Nayshall.

K??en is bringing his conglomerate, The Masters Foundation, to the recently founded nation in order to run a lucrative fighting tournament, working alongside the nation's sinister minister Johann Petrovich, known to most as simply "JP". Ken is not quite the man he used to be, however. Not only is he estranged from his wife, Eliza, but he is worrying the board of his f??oundation, having divulged company funds into unstable markets, such as cryptocurrency.

Moreso, Ken has been neglecting his growing son, Mel, who in the issue has been offloaded on PMC cop and SF6 poster boy, Luke Sullivan. If all of this wasn't enough, Ken is quickly learning that Nayshall, the locale for his latest pipe dream, is hardly the free-est ?of states, plagued with violent revolution over its recent gentrification. This has brought anger to the nation's people �anger that Mr. Masters is set to face first-hand.

The first issue not only gives fans a little insight into the politics of Nayshall itself, but also introduces us to the frightenin?g JP, gives us a little time with Luke, (I j??ust don't like the dude), and sets the paving for the events that will lead to Ken's rough fall from grace. Yer boy is going to need some serious guidance, and soon. Hopefully, he'll eventually get it, perhaps delivered in the vessel of his dearest friend and rival.

The Last Cardriver

Sony Pictures Entertainment, (yes, really), has released the first full trailer for its upcoming big-screen adaptation of one of the most successful driving simulators of all time, Gran Turismo. The new film, directed by Neill Blomkamp (District 9, CHAPPiE) will arrive in theaters this August.

The picture will tell a somewhat dramatized version of the very real story of die-hard Gran Turismo fan Jann Mardenborough, who won a series of Nissan-sponsored Gran Turismo tournaments, before eventually going on to become a bona-fide championship racing car driver. Mardenborough will be portrayed in the movie by Archie Madekwe (Midsommer) and will be joined by cast members Orlando Bloom (Lord of the Rings), Djimon Hounson (Guardians of the Galaxy), David Harbour (Stranger Things) and former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell.

'Now that's what I'm talkin' about!'

While I see the potential in this surprising adaptation �great cars driving fast makes for an awesome spectacle, after all �I can't help but wonder if we might not ultimately be looking at a two-hour ad for PlayStation hardware, Gran Turismo games, and car manufacturers. There's a possibility that Gran Turismo, with its real-world storytelling and ??use of legitimate branding, might give the 007 franchise a run for its money when it comes to product placement. Also, Video Game Fans are Dorks Jokes. Well done.

Ah, I'm sure they'll be plenty of sleek and sexy vehicles for car fans, and maybe Geri will give us a few lines of "Wannabe" into the bargain. This whole trailer has a vibe very reminiscent of Top Gun Maverick, but we'll have to see whether Gran Turismo also takes 1.49 ??billion dollars when it finally accelerates into the cinemas this August. I hope CHAPPiE shows up in a cameo, doing some Funny Rap Dancing.

This week's episode: The writer's barely...

Gnarly! Hot off of last week's announcement that the hit animated show Totally Spies! was getting set for a long-awaited TV comeback, publisher Microids has announced that it has a brand new video game adaptation in the works, set to launch on con?soles and PC in 2024, alongside the girl's TV?? return.

Tota?lly Spies! which originally screened in the very early '00s, sees World Organization of Human Protection (WOOHP) agents Sam, Clover, and Alex embark on a series of deadl??y (read: silly) missions in order to protect the free world from a rogues' gallery of terrorists and villains, while also attempting to balance their death-defying deeds with the upscale Beverly Hills lifestyles. The show, which ran for over 150 episodes, was notable for its stylistic, anime-inspired approach to its action, screwball comedy, and facial animations.

While Totally Spies! has been off the air since 2015, w?ith the ending of its sixth seaso??n, it was revealed just last week that a seventh season is now in production at Cartoon Network, and is scheduled to premiere in 2024. While no details are currently available on Microids' tie-in video game title, the game has been licensed and commissioned specifically in line with the TV show's return.

"Microids is committed to faithfully and innovatively adapting well-known IP and it is a real honor for us to work on the Totally Spies! license," said Microid??s CEO Stephane Longeard in a press release. "Thanks to the skills of our studios and in-house teams, we will do everything we can to offer the community a game that meets its expectations."

Totally Spies! will launch on PC and console platforms in 2024.

It's about to get garlicky

Video game adaptations are all the rage, and Vampire Survivors is now joini?ng the trend. Developer poncle's ever-evolving auto-fighting survival game has an animated series in the works.

Via Deadline, poncle's founder Luca Galante is partnering with Story Kitchen, the company working on other game adaptations like Sifu, Streets of Rage, and more. Founded by John Wick writer and creator Derek Kolstad, Sonic the Hedgehog film and TV producer Dmitri M. Johnson, and former APA agent and partner Mike Goldberg, Story Kitchen is certainly tackling a decent amount of video game adaptations. Games consulting agency Robot Teddy will also be su?pporting the show.

As for wh??at the show will be about? Well, tha?t's still a bit unclear.

"The most important thing in Vampire Survivors is the story, so it's a dream come true to see what started as a little indie game I made on my weekends come to life as an animated TV show!" Gallante said in a press release. "It’s also great to be partnering up with such experienced and talented people to make the show. I do wonder if they've realised that there isn't a single vampire in Vampire Survivors, though."

The release confirms that, just like the game, the act??ual existence of vampires has not been confirmed.

Adapting the Survivors

Normally I'd be wary, but it seems like poncle and Gallante are keeping a bit of fun mixed in with the whole project. Seeing as Vampire Survivors draws heavily on past works like Castlevania, it's hard not to see the potential; but I'm also curious to see how those ideas play out, and look any different, in a Survivors series.

As long as there's some solid garlic jokes, though, I'll probably be along for the ride. Vampire Survivors was a surprise hit that's kept growing with time, and I can't say I'm not curious to see what this team does with their very ??own series adaptation.

Goofy poster released to celebrate launch date

Peacock has announced a premiere date for its long-time-coming TV adaptation of PlayStation's apocalyptic, vehicular franchise Twisted Metal �The series is now scheduled to premiere on the Peacock streaming service on July?? 27.

A new teaser dropped on April 28, showing Anthony Mackie's character gearing up for a drive into the battlefield. While we don't see too much other than cars and destruction, the teaser does end with a brief tease of the Twisted Metal mainstay Sweet Tooth.

Twisted Metal, as previously reported, will star Mackie (Marvel's Falcon) as a slick, smart-mouthed courier who, down on his luck, accepts a shady offer to carry a mysterious package across the dystopian wastelands that surround the city �packed with marauding gangs and hazardous terrain, and haunte??d by the distur?bing, ice-cream-truck-driving serial killer known as Sweet Tooth.

Joining Mackie on this death-laden voyage will be Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Thomas Haden Church (Spider-Man 3), and Neve Campbell (Scream) in currently undisclosed roles. Will Arnett will provide the voice of Sweet Tooth, while the notorious murderer's physical presence will be that of legendary pro-wrestling star Samoa Joe. Cobra Kai's Michael Jonathan Smith served as writer and showrunner for the series, which wrapped filming last summer and is now in post-production.

Twisted Metal is one of a number of PlayStation film and TV adaptations currently in development. Via its PlayStation Productions arm, Sony has also commissioned projects based on popular franchises such as Uncharted, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Gran Turismo, and Ghost of Tsushima.

Twisted Metal will premiere on Peacock July 27.

'Sally, I hear something... stop... stop...'

Gun Media has reiterated the release date for its upcoming The Texas Chain Saw Massacre �noting that the down 'n' dirty multiplayer title ??will launch August 18 on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X as well as reminding Xbox Game Pass subscribers that?? they will be able to dive into the action day one.

Adapted from Tobe Hooper's magnificent 1974 picture, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre will pit a party of hapless survivors �all hippie hair and booty shorts �against the terrifying Sawyer family, consisting of members either d??irectly pulled from, or inspir??ed by, Hooper's seminal horror classic.

The survivors, (or "Victims" to use the game's lexicon), will be required to complete objectives and gather key items from several recognizable locales while staying one step ahead of family members The Cook, The Hitchhiker, and, of course, the horrifying, chainsaw-wielding Leatherface. All new original characters, including "Johnny" and "Sissy", have also been created to... flesh out th?e roster of cannibalistic killers.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is clearly hoping to carve itself a piece of the assymetrical horror pie established by titles such as Behavior Interactive's Dead by Daylight and Illfonic's Friday the 13th: The Game. These releases were, in turn, followed by Illfonic own Predator: Hunting Grounds, Saber Interactive's Evil Dead: The Game, and the currently in-development Killer Klowns from Outer Space.

It's admittedly something of a risky proposition, given that Dead by Daylight has all but completely cornered the market on multiplayer horror movie mashups, but developer Sumo Digital will be looking to capture the distinct (and suspicious) flavor of the origin?al movie to provide an experience that �aesthetically at the ??very least �will be quite unlike its contemporaries.

My curiosity for this plucky release is piqued, just add Stretch as a playable character, (complete with Caroline Williams providing the voice), and I'll be buz?zin'. I think, for the title to have legs among its kin, it might have to paint itself as a full tribute to t?he entire franchise, eventually adding locations, characters, and "skins" (no pun intended) from the film's scattershot sequels, spin-offs, and remakes.

But I'm perhaps jumping the gun a little. Let's get the title thr?ough the steel-shuttered door first.

Roll Die to Pay Respects

Activision, in association with tabletop producer Arcane Wonders, has announced a forthcoming board game based on the former's billion-dollar military shooter series, Call of Duty. The tabletop adaptation of the long-running and hugely successful series is expect?ed to begin c??rowdfunding this summer.

While slight on details, Call of Duty: The Board Game will be set within the Modern Warfare uni??verse, and will feature all your favorite bullet-tossers including Soap, Ghost, and, of course, Cpt. Price in real?-time strategic action. As is the style of the time, a Kickstarter will be launched in the coming months for interested parties to plonk down their pre-orders, likely offering up several stretch goals and/or expansion packs. Arcane has already hinted at popular Zombies side-mode making an appearance.

"[Players] simultaneously plan out moves secretly and then resolve those at the same time out on the map," said designer Bryan Pope, describing gameplay in comments to Polygon. "Line of sight is easily determined by colored lines on the ?map, and when you do have eyes on your opponent, combat happens. It’s all about outsmarting and outmaneuvering your opponent to get in the best possible position to win in a fight."

Perhaps the most interesting element here is the realization that Call of Duty, decades down the line and billions of dollars in the bank, is yet to receive a board game adaptation. Transitioning a multiplayer-heavy first-person-shooter to the meticulous, turn-taking world of tabletops has always been a challenge, but it seems that the team at Arcane Wonders is confident that they have found a way to recreate the breathless and bombastic action of the video game to a board game environment. It will be interesting to follow the title's progress and see quite how the expansive universe of CoD makes the physical leap.

That's a lot more than Six Golden Coins

Universal's smash-hit flick The Super Mario Bros Movie is now officially the highest-grossing video game adaptation of all time, having?? bagged an incredible $677 million USD at the global box office in just its first two weeks of release.

The Illumination-produced feature, which stars Chris Pratt as the iconic Nintendo mascot, had already surpassed a $500 million box office by the midway point of last week, but has since gone on to record another amazing weekend, pushing the numbers up by over $100 million, surpassing Marvel's latest endeavor, Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania, to become the highest-?g??rossing film of 2023 so far.

Additionally, The Super Mario Bros Movie has also topped the box office for both Warner Bros.' 2019 release, Pokemon: Detective Pikachu, as well as Universal's own 2016 feature, Warcraft, to officially become the biggest video game movie ever?. And given that we are a mere two weeks into Mario & Co.'s box office bu??sting, the number-crunchers are eagerly anticipating the possibility that the film may eventually hit the platinum prestige of a one billion dollar box office.

??As I've noted before, the Hollywood bigwigs own the most easily turned of heads, and it would not be ?a surprise to see an absolute plethora of video game adaptations greenlit in the coming 10 years, to what, I'm sure, will be varying reward.

Focus Entertainment has announced that a Nintendo Switch port of Cold Iron Studio blaster Aliens: Fireteam Elite will be launching on April 26 �The new port of the 2021 release wil??l be handled by studio Ubitus and will be made available via cloud gaming technol??ogy.

Already available for PlayStation, PC, and Xbox platforms, Aliens: Fireteam Elite is a third-person shooter set within the expanded Alien universe. Players choose from one of seven marin?e classes �Gunner, Demolisher, Technician, Doc, Phalanx, Lancer, or Recon �before embarking on a series of story campaigns accompanied by A.I. partners or up to two additional players. Fireteam Elite attempts the capture the claustrophobic atmosphere and acid-spraying violence of the classic 1986 sequel Aliens, adopting a gameplay style similar to other team-based shooters such as Valve's Left 4 Dead.

The new Nintendo Switch port will retail for $29.99 for the standard edition, while a $59.99 "Ultimate Edition" includes bonus in-game items, DLC campaign Pathogen, and the "Endeavor Pass". Legendary anime producer TMS Entertainment has released a new trailer for its upcoming animated movie Resident Evil Death Island, which will see a who's ???who of Resi heroes gather together to battle the rotting forces of bio-weapons corporation Umbrella.

The new trailer is something of an exciting moment for fans of Capcom's survival horror series, as it brings together a party of beloved Resident Evil characters, some of whom will be meeting for the very first time in series history. The preview, which you can check out below, sees Redfield siblings Chris and Claire team up with former R.P.D. officer Leon S. Kennedy, S.T.A.R.S. Bravo team medic Rebecca Chambers, and �the Master of Unlocking herself �Jill Valentine. A pretty exciting team-up for the community, that's for sure, and one that frankly should have happened as the theme of Resident Evil 4.

It should be noted that the trailer is, putting it mildly, fucking bonkers. Following on from some Tom Cruise-??esque motorbike stunt silliness, we see our heroes battle flesh-eating zombies, undead sharks, and T-Virus packing Lickers on a deserted Alcatraz Island. At one point, Chris Redfield ca??sually arms himself with a rocket launcher like it's nothing, and a hilarious moment sees the team attempt to one-up each other while dodging a mutated tentacle. Silly? Very. Kinda cruddy looking? That too...

The true sequel to Resident Evil 3? Absolutely.

Resident Evil Death Island will premiere in Japan July 7, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has picked up the rights for a w??estern r?elease, and the film is expected to release in North America and Europe later in 2023.

Illumination release The Super Mario Bros Movie has smashed box office records in its opening weekend, with a recorded $377 million global box office a?ffording the Nintendo adaptation the mantle of biggest-ever opening for an animated movie.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which opened in American theaters on Wednesday, April 5, has seen sensational early success, with opening numbers surpassing those of the previous record holder, Walt Disney's 2019 sequel Frozen 2.
