Expect lots of dodge rolls

Motion Twin has announced that their indie mega-hit, Dead Cells, is getting the animation treatment in 2024.

The 10-episode series is being handled by Bobbypills, the group that handled all of Dead Cells�animated trailers. The Animation Digital Network will be co-producing. Right now, we have a short teaser trailer of the prisoner sitting on a pile of corpses attempting to spark their?? head back to life. This comes complete with the sound of someone flicking a cheap lighter.

That’s not much to go on, admittedly, but despite being a roguelite, Dead Cells has a lot of lore to draw from. It also has a lot of memorable characters to d?raw from, like, uh, that one lady who dies. Or maybe that guy who�Crap.

I’m going to be honest with you. I picked up Dead Cells for their Return to Castlevania DLC, and I loved the heck out of it. Once I finished with Return to Castlevania, it was my intention to continue on through the rest of the ??content. I guess it was a busy time for me because I just didn’t do that. When was that? March? Oh, yeah. I did 12 reviews that month. That wasn’t a very good idea.

However, my time spent with it does leave me convinced that it could be adapted into a very watchable animated series. No word on whether or not you have to s??tart from the beginning if you fail to watch the series from start to finish.

The Dead Cells animated series will arrive sometime in 2024. The show will premiere exclusively on French network ADN, before screening worldwid??????????????????????????e.

The Mario movie leaps into action on April 7

Well, it's finally here. Today, we got the world premiere trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, from Nintendo and Illumination.

Shown off during a special Nintendo Direct today, we got a little bit of info from Shigeru? Miyamot??o and Illumination's Chris Meledandri on the putting-together of this collaboration.

The?n, we got to see the trailer. We see an intro scene of Bowser and Kamek arriving to overthrow a penguin kingdom, eventually grabbing a star in the process. Then, we pan?? over to see Chris Pratt's Mario, hearing his take on the iconic plumber for the first time alongside a big look at the Mushroom Kingdom.

Mario goes to the movies

Reports of Nintendo and Illumination's team-up first started in 2017. In the time since, we've had a few crumbs here and there, including a full voice cast reveal last year. Alongside Pratt's role as Mario, several celebrities are set to lend their talents, ranging from Charlie Day as Luigi to Keegan-Michael Key as Toad. Both of those got a little spotlight in today's trailer to?o, though ??the main show was Mario and Bowser.

The video game-movie adaptation pipeline has certainly grown over the last few years. Sonic the Hedgehog has had two major motion pictures and more is on the way, leading the way for many more. PlayStation has been kicking up its own productions, with an Uncharted movie already out and The Last of Us headed to HBO.

This obviously isn't Mario's first silver screen appearance, but it's a pretty big one. I will say, Jack Black's Bowser works pretty? well for me. As for some of the others, I'm going to need to hear more (I was a little bummed we didn't hear more of Day as Luigi, or see Princess Peach at all).

Early Access kicks off April 20

Those of you old enough to hold golden memories of Saturday morning television might want to take a gander at MythForce, a br?and new roguelite adventure that hopes to capture the looks, sounds, and vibes of the acti??on-adventure 'toons of the late 1980s.

Developed by Canadian outfit (and newly adopted member of Embracer Group), Beamdog, MythForce promises colorful dungeon crawling action for parties of one-to-four players, each kitted out with their own skills, weapons, spells, and abilities. As our heroes pick their way through each procedu??rally-generated zone, they will battle an army of ruthless villains, topple bosses, adapt and improve their abilities, and gather ood?les of juicy loot, all presented in nostalgic, animated fashion.

He's a lean, mean, wood-chewing machine

The content on Pokémon's YouTube channel has not disappointed recently, and their newest post, an animated short titled "Bidoof's Big Stand," is no exception. As one m??ight expect from the title, the short follows Bidoof, the loveable beaver/mouse-lookin' guy, on his journey to take a stand, prove his gumption, and even get a high five. Featuring a beautiful 3D art style with a hint of anime influenc?e, this animation isn't just adorable �it's gorgeous to look at, too.

Now, some of us out there might be thinking, "Bidoof? Why Bidoof, of all the Pokémon?" Allow me to explain. Introduced in Generation IV, Bidoof became admired for how adorable he is, which like, you're preaching to the choir for someone whose favorite thing about Pokémon is the cute factor. After the honeymoon period, however, many players decided that Bidoof is useless based on his low stats. To counter this anti-Bidoof movement, another group emerged, shouting from the rooftops that the fluffy, buck-toothed Pokémon was actually the best and didn't deserve the hate. The movement grew from there, so much so that Pokémon had an official Bidoof Day last July to honor him.

Personally, I am a huge fan of this short, and watching it hon?estly made my day. It's cute, sure, but it's also awesome to see gaming companies putting resources into p??rojects that seem to be out of love more than anything else.

The Bidoof's Big Stand short is a fun surprise for the community, and it's been well received by fans, as the YouTube comments are flooded with requests for more content like it. This is just another example of how good Pokémon is at making players feel like they're part of something bigger, which is part of why engaging with the franchise always feels so comforting. Good on you, Pokémon Company, and pleas?e keep it up.
