It's no exaggeration to say that the Roger Pirates play a very important role in One Piece's narrative. As the only crew to successfully reach Laugh Tale and lea?ve the legendary titular treasure, t??hey set the stage for the current era of piracy.

As mighty as they might have been?, the crew disbanded after Gol D. Roger's execution. While his other crewmates didn't die with him, little is known about the others' whereabouts. Even so, only their temporary crewmate, Kozuki Oden, is known to have met his end. As for the others, here is all ?we know about them.

Warning: This article contains spoilers for the One Piece manga.

Roger Pirates' Crocus in One Piece

Crocus the Roger Pirates' doctor

Crocus was one of the first former members of the Roger Pirates to be introduced into the series. He was first shown just as the Straw Hats entered the Grand Line, wherein he was seen taking care of the humongous whale that was Laboon. E??ven after the timeskip, he remained in Twin Cape Lighthouse, patiently waiting with Laboon for Luffy and Brook to fulfill their promise.

Taking care of Laboon had been Crocus' life mission. He first met and took in the young Laboon after the Rumbar Pirates had to leave the whale behin??d. They wanted to explore the Grand Line, and it would have been too dangerous for Laboon to tag along. Only decades after meeting the Rumbar pirates did Crocus meet Roger and his crew. He also only accepted to join the Roger Pirates and kee??p tabs on Roger's health in the hopes of finding the fate of the Rumbar Pirates.

The Roger Pirates' first mate Silvers Rayleigh

Roger's first mate? undeniably helped the Straw Hat Pirates the most. After their disbandment, Silvers Rayleigh retired as a pirate and became a ship coating mechanic at Sabaody Archipelago. He also settled? down and became Shakuyaku's, a former Empress of the Amazon Lily, husband. Up to the present, he remains at Sabaody Archipelago; and perhaps pretending to be a for-sale slave and stealing from whoever would buy him.

Even before Kuma separated the Straw Hats??, Rayleigh fought to save them. After Ace's death, he also accompanied Luffy back to Marineford and taught the young pirate how to master his Haki.

The left arm Scopper Gaban

If the Dark Knight Silvers Rayleigh served as Roger's right-hand man, t?hen Scopper Gaban was his left arm. He was known to be at par with Rayleigh during their prime, earning him the moniker Mountaineater. Recent developments in the manga finally revealed his whereabouts.

It turned out that Gaban had been liv?ing in Elbaph for the past two decades, wherein he got himself a wife and a child. Interestingly, however, he isn't so fond of humans marrying Giants. Since Ripley is a?? Giant and he is a human, he doesn't find it fair that only he grows old and scrawny at such a rapid pace. Even so, he self-proclaims to be a preacher of love, believing that love is free and goes beyond race.

The Emperor Red-Hair Shanks

At the time, Shanks was still a child and an apprentice in Roger's crew. While the other ??m?embers of the Roger Pirates reached Laugh Tale and saw the One Piece, Shanks unboarded the ship before reaching the final island.

After the disbandment, he formed his own pirate crew the Red-Hair Pirates. He then expanded his influence across the Grand Line and the New World, ultimately being recognized as one of the Four Emperors. And now, he has set his sight??s on finally getting the much-coveted treasure.

The other Emperor, Buggy the Clown

The reason Shanks missed out on the trip to Laugh Tale was the other apprentice, Buggy. Before the last leg of the voyage, Buggy suddenly came down with a fever. Shanks stayed to look after him, despite his? protests.

After the disbandment, Buggy and Shanks reunited at Roger's execution. Buggy felt betrayed after Shanks refused to go to Laugh Tale. And so, he refused to follow?? Shanks and formed his own pirate crew. He then went on numerous adventures. He even faced off with the Straw Hat Pirates, joined the Paramount War, became a Warlord, and ultimately became an Emperor himself. With Shanks proclaiming to go after One Piece, he somehow also made Cross Guild do the same.

Nekomamushi and Inuarashi

When Oden and his family joined the Roger Pirates, Nekomamushi and Inuarashi boarded the Oro Jackson a??s stowaways and became apprentices. However, their stay wasn't that long. When Toki got sick, the two Minks decided to stay with her at W?ano. And just like Shanks and Buggy, they also didn't get to Laugh Tale.

The two joined the other retain??ers at Wano, waiting for Oden's return. When Oden ultimately fell at Kaido's hands, the two barely escaped from Wano to Zou. At that point, they were already feuding. They eventually joined the others to fulfill their roles as Oden's retainers and take down Kaido. After the battle, the two decided to stay at Wano and become Momonosuke's guardians and retainers.

About Bye Bye, Earth

Bye Bye, Earth is based on Tow Ubukata’s fantasy novel. It takes place in a world where all inhabitants possess animal-like traits. However, its protagonist, Belle, is the only girl ?without such features.

The no??vel was first published in two volumes in 2020, but a new edition with four volumes was published between 2007 and 2008. Ryu Asahi also adapted the novel into ma?nga from 2020 to 2022. Ultimately, the first season of the anime premiered in July 2024.

Crunchyroll summarizes the anime's plot:
"Belle Lablac doesn’t really fit in as the only human being in a world full of anthropomorphic animals. No fangs, no fur, no scales, no claws. Lonely and eager to discover where she comes from, Belle journeys to find answers to the questions of her heart. Carrying nothing but her giant sword, the Runding, she faces a world of possibilities and pitfalls in hopes of discovering the truth."

Any One Piece fan would agree that the series is a constant emotional roller coaster. While the series is technically all about chasing dreams ??and finding treasures, almost everyone has a pretty damn tragic backstory. However, the tearjerkers in the franchise aren't necessarily limited to flashbacks.

During their grand quest to find the titular treasure, Luffy and Co. went through a lot of grief, both individually and as a group. Plenty of these non-flashback experiences are, without a doubt, some of the saddest moments in One Piece. Here are ten moments th??at will likely make you look out for the onion-chopping? ninjas.

Chouchou from One Piece

Chouchou’s futile waiting and grand stand

Despite being one of the saddest and most heartwarming moments in the series, some fans may have already forgotten about it since it occurred when the Straw Hat Pirates only consisted of thr??ee members. At the time Buggy and his crew were wreaking havoc at East Blue, we met the goodest boy, Chouchou.

Chouchou’s tale was reminiscent of that of the famous Akita dog Hachiko. Much like the beloved Hachiko, Chouchou had been futilely wa??iting for his deceased master’s return. Chouchou, however, had been waiting at a pet food shop and? not at a train station. It was the shop he and his master co-owned, so Chouchou not only waited but guarded it as well.

When the Buggy Pirates terrorized Orange Town, Mohji and his lion Richie targeted the store for its pet food. Despite the ??gargantuan size difference, Chouchou neither showed fear nor backed down from the lion’s assault. Unfortunately, grit alone wasn’t enough to overcome the power difference. The pirates ultimately burnt down the shop, leaving Chouchou howling in grief as he watched his precious establishment turn to ash.

Nami crying after stabbing her arm in One Piece

Nami stabbing her arm to get rid of the Arlong Pirates symbol

Nami has always hated pirates for good reasons. The Arlong Pirates held her entire village hostage, forcing Nami to map the seas and steal from pirates as a child. She hop?ed to buy back her village from the Fish-Men's smelly hands. But just as she amassed the agreed-upon amount, Arlong betrayed her and corroborated with the Marines to confiscate her stash. It was a despicable move to make her the crew's eternal slave.

Betrayed and battered, the young navigator crumbled in all sense of the word. In her grief and anger, she started stabbing the Arlong Piratessymbol tattooed on her shoulder. Since N?ami had always been depicted as strong and steadfast, watching her mutilate herself in defeat was nothing short of devastating.

The Straw Hats silently bid farewell to Vivi

The Straw Hat Pirates had always been small in number, not counting the Straw Hat Grand Fleet, in comparison to other powerful crews. Even so, that didn't exempt them from say?ing farewell to some of their crewmates, all of which was a different flavor of sorrow. The first time it happened was when they took down Crocodile and his empire, helping Vivi free her ??kingdom.

At the time, the Straw Hat managed to defeat Crocodile and every official of Baroque Works. Vivi's true identity as the princess of Alabasta was also revealed. Despite the kingdom's debt to the Straw Hats, Vivi couldn't openly acknowledge her connection with t??he pirates. As such, the Straw Hats could only ?openly denounce their connection with her, as well. However, their true feelings were different, and they made sure to let Vivi know that.

Before entering the country, all of them drew an X mark on their forearm??. It was to prevent the enemy from using their likeness against them, as well as a promise to always be "nakama" or friends. The moment the Going Merry departed, the Straw Hat raised their hands in testament to always regard Vivi as a crewmate.

Luffy and Usopp's face off

The next Straw Hat to leave the crew was Usopp, but it was not as t??ouching or amicable as Vivi's. Upon reaching Water 7, the Straw Hats had already done their fair share of sailing. Despite not having a shipwright at the tim??e, they were pretty rough with the Going Merry. Luffy even broke the ship's mast to use it as a weapon against Laboon. Even though Usopp was constantly repairing the ship, his skills were far from enough to keep the Going Merry in tip-top shape.

When the crew asked the Galley-La Company to repair the ship, it was already past the point of repairs. They could only say their farewells to the ship if they wanted to continue sailing. As such, Luffy made the heavy decision to leave the Merry, which Usopp gravely disagreed with. Usopp challenged Luffy to a duel with the Merry's ownership at stake. Despite obviously not being Luffy's match, Usopp came in prepared, while Luffy reciprocated the respect by ??going all out. Seeing them go at each other with full strength and conviction was ?painful to watch.

The death of the Going Merry

Luffy and Usopp's fallout is just a preface to this entry, w?hich is still the only time a Straw Hat perished. The sad thing about this scene wasn't the?? fact that Going Merry was no more. That was already established after the Galley-La Company's assessment. What made it truly heartbreaking was the series of events that led up to it.

At the time, anot??her Straw Hat left the group. Nico Robin voluntarily surrendered herself to the CP9 in the hopes of sparing the others. However, Luffy and Co. literally went through hell and high waters to save them. At their direst moment, with Marines surrounding them and nowhere left to flee, the Going Merry arrived to save them. It was the ship's final voyage. Rightfully so, they sent it off with all crew members present.

Luffy in shambles after Straw Hat separation in One Piece

The Straw Hat Pirates' separation at Sabaody Archipelago

Pre-time skip, we've always had the assumption that the Straw Hat Pirates were already one of the strongest crews in One Piece. After all, they had been defeating Warlords and government officials left and right. The moment they reached Sabaody Archipelago, however, things were finally put into perspecti??ve.

Aokiji's meeting with the Straw Hat Pirates gave us a glimpse of how much they were lacking in comparison to a Marine Admiral. ??Indeed, the Straw Hats were far from strong enough to handle the Pacifistas, Sentomaru, and Kizaru. In addition to Bartholomew Kuma's presence, it was the first ??time our beloved crew was utterly crushed.

T??he moment the Warlord sent each Straw Hat away was akin to the time Brook was losing his original crewmates one by one. The final nail to the coffin was seeing Luffy so devastated over his weakness. It was also the first time the fun-loving pirate was portrayed as weak and helpless.

Bon Clay and Luffy in One Piece

Bon Clay's sacrifice at Impel Down

Luffy just couldn't get a break. After getting separated from his crew, he learned that his sworn brother was arrested and would be executed. Reasonably, Luffy immediately wanted to rescue him from peril. To do that, he even infiltrated the most secure prison in the One Piece world Impel Down. There, he met familiar faces, including Crocodile, Buggy, and Bon Cl??ay.

De??spite being Crocodile's third-in-command, Bon Clay earned Luffy's trust by sacrificing himself to let the Straw Hats escape Alabasta. He also aided Luffy's prison break, giving him information about the prison and fighting alongside him. When Magellan brought Luffy near death, it?? was Bon Clay who carried him to Ivankov's lair. Even as Luffy fought for his life, Bon Clay cheered him on to hoarseness.

Even after all that, Bon Clay wasn't done giving. In order to le??t Luffy and the other prisoners ultimately escape Impel Down, he once again sacrifices himself by staying behind and opening the Gates of Justice.

Ace's death in One Piece
Image via Crunchyroll

Ace's death

Bon?? Clay's sacrifice leads up to the battle of Marineford, which would ultimately decide Ace's fate. On one side were the ones trying to save Ace, and on the other was the government. The battle was intense and lengthy, and it naturally had numerous key moments. So many died to free the young man, including old man Whitebeard himself.

There was even a time when Luffy had to face his grandfather just to get to the stand where Ace was to be executed. Worse was that Luffy managed to free Ace briefly, only for Akainu to ??bore a hole through h?is chest immediately after.

The grief didn't end there. Luffy was too shell-shocked that?? he literally lost consciousness. Even when he woke up, Jimbei had to literally beat his senses back to him. In addition, there is also the scene where Garp meets up with Dadan. As the motherly figure who raised the ASL trio, she was one of the most devastated upon learning of Ace's tragic fate. It was evident as she tearfully punched Garp. There were als?o the reactions of each Straw Hat after learning of the sad news, steeling their resolve to become more powerful and reunite.

Sanji beating Luffy at Whole Cake Island

The latest one and hopefully the last one to leave the crew was Sanji. Similar to Robin's reason, Sanji did it for the sake of his crewmates. However, that reas??on wouldn't stop Luffy from retrieving him.

Unlike Robin, however, Sanji was more adamant. He didn't want to put the others in harm's way, especially since it was Big Mom they would potentially be clashing against. In his attempt to push Luffy away, he even uses lethal kicks on his captain. Meanwhile, Luffy, also adamant about bringing his ship's chef back, took?????????????????????????? on every hit with zero defense. In addition, he went on a hunger strike, refusing to eat anything not cooked by Sanji.

Yasuie's death in One Piece

Yasuie's death

The Wano Country Arc is one of the longest arcs in One Piece, and it's all about the Kozukis' decades-long vendetta against Orochi and Kaido. But even before the revolt could start, it ?was almost snuffed after Orochi got hold of the secret message. The movement was only saved when Yasuie claimed responsibility for spreading a fake message as a prank. His bold lie only held bearing after he revealed his identity as Shimotsuki Yasuie, the former daimyo of Hakumai.

While Yasuie's lie saved the revolution, it led to his execution, and that wasn't even the saddest moment in this tale. After his execution, his adopted daughter, Toko, ran to his body. The young girl used the toad oil, which Usopp fraudulently sold as a miracle medicine, to revive him. Since Toko had consumed a SMILE fruit, she was unable to ??shed tears or show any negative emotions. As such, she was laughing throughout the whole pre??dicament.

The adorable yet comical rom-com series Komi Can't Communicate took the anime world by a silent storm when its anime adaptation aired in 2021. But even ??before its anime success, the manga already built a loyal fanbase. And now, after nine years of serialization, the manga officially comes to an end.

Komi Can't Communicate, penned by Tomohito Oda, debuted on Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in May 2016. The manga ended with Chapter 499, which is available in English on VIZ Media. The series received an anime adaptation in 2021. The first season had 12 episodes, airing from October?? to December of that year. Its huge success warranted another 12-episode season, which came out in April 2022 and ended in June of the same year. In addition, the manga also won the 67th Shogakukan Manga Award for the shonen category in 2022.

Netflix licensed the anime for worldwide streaming. But while all episodes can be streamed via the platform, availability may vary depending on region.

When it comes to absolute powerhouses of anime, Naruto is up there with the best of them. Across Naruto and Naruto: Shippuden, you’ve got 720 ep?isodes to sit down and binge, but?? are all of them strictly necessary?

While the original Naruto series is 220 episodes worth of world building and getting-to-know-everyone fun and drama, Naruto: Shippuden adds a whopping additional 500 episodes, furthering the story? and adding new characters into the mix.?

To watch all of Naruto: Shippuden, you’ll need over 200 hours spare (more than 8 days), and that’s one hell of a time sink and a rather daunting commitment. And that’s without adding in the time to watch the original series first, and then the huge number of Boruto episodes that come after.

While each episode holds a certain amount of world building and additional lore, not every episode is considered to be integral to the overarching story of Naruto. If you’re wan??ting to know which episodes are canon and which ??are considered filler, we’ve got you covered.

Should you skip the filler in Naruto: Shippuden?

While filler episodes of Naruto: Shippuden don’t really bring anything to the table in terms of the overall story, you will miss out on some important world building and background if you choose to skip over them. For instance, Kakashi’s Anbu Arc (episodes 347 - 361) offers valuable insight that will help you to trul?y understand the impact of Kakashi, who is an absolute fan favorite character.

There are a lot of mome?nts you’ll miss if you choose to skip over the filler, but the choice is yours to make. You wonâ€?™t be left wondering about anything by missing these episodes, and you can always go back later to fill in the gaps once you’ve reached the end of the main story.

Consider it like completing the main story of a game, then going back to complete side quests aft?erwards.

Naruto: Shippuden meets back up with the now beloved characters two years after the original series ends, and there’s a whole new cast of people to meet and events to catch up on. However, of the 500 episodes that make up Naruto: Shippuden, 203 of these are considered to be filler.

Sometimes, enti?re arcs of the anime take you off on side stories that aren’t strictly necessary if you only want to keep up with the main story.

Here’s every filler episode of Naruto: Shippuden, along with what arcs that they make up:

  • Episodes 57 - 71 (Twelve Guardian Ninja Arc)

    • “Robbed of Sleepâ€?to “My Friendâ€?/li>

  • Episodes 91 - 112 (Three-Tailsâ€?Appearance Arc)

How to watch Naruto: Shippuden

Naruto in Naruto: Shippuden
Image via Crunchyroll

Regardless of whether you want to consume? every episode in order, or you want to get through that main story and then get the side stories under your belt, how you can watch it depends on where you’re located?.

Here’s how to watch Naruto: Shippuden in both the US and the UK:

Naruto: Shippuden in the US

If you’re US based, then you can watch Naruto: Shippuden on both Hulu and Crunchyroll. Each has all 500 episodes available, and offers its own perks and advantages, depend??ing on your wat??????????????????????????ching style.

Hulu offers 473 of the 500 episodes with English dubbing, so it’s easier to watch in the background or if you’re not entirely able to focus on ?subtitles. However, the episodes are split into strange and inaccurate seasons, so it’s easy to lose track of exactly where you are unless you’re paying close attention to the episode numbers.

Crunchyroll, on the other hand, only has the series available with subtitles. However, the episodes are split into their respective arcs (for the most part, it all seems to fall apart after the F?ourth Great Ninja War - Sasuke and Itachi arc), so you can find specific episodes pretty easily as long as you know which arc they belong to.

Sadly, you’ll need to subscribe to either of these streaming platforms if you want to binge the entirety of Naruto: Shippuden, because it’s simply not possible to complete the series within a 7 day trial. The cheapes?t Hulu subscription is $9.99 per month, while the cheapest Crunchyroll subscription is $7.99 per month.&nb??sp;

Naruto: Shippuden in the UK

If you’re based in the UK, you can still watch Naruto: Shippuden via Crunchyroll. The fan subscription package for us Brits is ÂŁ4.99 per month. Sadly, that’s our only option when it comes to bingeing this beloved anime, unless you want to invest in a VPN (or ha??ppen to have one) to use for this purpose.

Wherever you are, you can also add Crunchyroll to your Amazon Prime account as an additional subscription, which does make it a lot easier to manage and cuts back on websites you ne?ed to visit in order to watch.

Marvel Rivals Season 1 recen??tly added Reed Richards AKA? Mister Fantastic to the game and, due to his famous elastic superpowers, many players couldn't help but compare him to the iconic protagonist of One Piece, Monkey D. Luffy?. Naturally, there's already a brilliant mod that reflects this st?riking similarity.

Nexus Mods user Ercuallo recently posted this Marvel Rivals mod that swaps Mister Fantastic for Monkey D. Luffy. However, what makes this stand out from other similar mods is that this isn't any regular Luffy skin, since he actually is in his most powerful and versatile transformation, his Gear 5 form. He famously achieved this form during the recent Wano Country Arc, and it basically allows?? him to use as many over-the-top and cartoony attacks as his childish imagination can come up with.

Image via Ercuallo/Nexus Mods

Gear 5 Luffy is a very fun power-up that stretches his body to mind-blowing extents and, to no one's surprise, it fits perfectly with Mister Fantastic's Marvel Rivals move set and animations. Ercuallo hasn't revealed where he got this model from, but it most likely originated from One Piece Pirate Warriors 4. According to Nexus Mods, this mod has been downloaded approximately 4600 times since its creator first uploaded it, so I can confidently say that One Piece f?ans ar?e definitely enjoying Mister Fantastic's addition to the game.

If you want to try this mod for yourself, the creator also left an easy-to-follow tutorial on how to download and install it in Marvel Rivals. You should be careful, however, as this popular Luffy skin has surfaced just a?fter NetEase implemented a controversial restriction that negatively affected mods and other fan-made content.

Marvel Rivals has been restricting modded skins after its most recent update

There's no denying that all the creative, high-quality fan-made skins have been one of the best parts of the recent rise in popularity of Marvel Rivals. Unfortunately, NetEase has decided to put an end to these mods, as the Season 1 Update added, among many other things, asset hash checking in order to disable them. Of course, Nexus Mods users imm?ediately be??gan working on a new mod that woul??d work around these restrictions, although as its description states, you should use it at your own ri?sk.

Can NetEase ban your Marvel Rivals account for using mods after the Season 1 Update? Technically speaking, yes, but it's also important to keep in mind that the game's terms of use have always forbidden modif??i?cations and yet there aren't many reports of players facing account bans just for using them (or any other type of fan-made content). While it's unlikely that NetEase will just start banning any players who installed mods in their game, the company has told IGN "It is not recommended to modify any game files, as doing so carries the risk of getting banned", meaning that Marvel Rivals players should still be careful.

Why did NetEase decide to disable mods in Marvel Rivals? It hasn't given an official explanation, but the truth is that fan-made skins can give some players an unfair advantage (or disadvantage) in an online multiplayer game like this one. For example: Gear 5 Luffy looks quite different from the original Mister Fantastic, so t??his contrast may confuse both opponents and teammates, making it harder for them to shoot him from a distance. Not to mention that skins like this can also mess with the character's individual hitboxes.

Marvel Rivals Season 1 is here, and it introduces Reed and Susan Richards of the Fantastic Four as playable characters. Marvel Rivals players worldwide, myself included, are already falling in love with Marvel's First Family's founding couple. However, Mister Fantastic is attracting a cult following amongst One Piece fans.

Across social media, Marvel Rivals players can't stop comparing Mister Fantastic to One Piece's eternally optimistic protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy. As a Marvel Comics and One Piece fan, I can't help but agree with them.

Marvel Rivals players can't get enough of Reed D. Richards

Mister Fantastic inflating in Marvel Rivals

If you're even distantly familiar with the Fantastic Four or One Piece, you may have already seen these two elastic boys placed side-by-side for comparison on forums and blogs. Both characters are famous for having bodies made of rubber, and some circles of comics and anime fans have compared and contrasted the two years before Marvel Rivals or it's runaway success were even gli?mmers in NetEa?se Games' eyes.

However, within hours of Mister Fantastic's initial reveal trailer going live, people began noticing an uncanny parallel between Reed and Luffy that cut deeper than their surface-level similarities. Most of Reed's signature abilities see him inflate into an oversized version of himself, complete with puffed-up arms and fists that wou??ld make his rocky-skinned best friend, Ben "The Thing" Grim?m, jealous.

With his beefed-up compressed body and mammoth limbs, Marvel Rivals' Mister Fantastic spends quite a lot of time looking like Luffy's Gear 4 form. If you aren't familiar with One Piece, this is the fourth version of the enhanced form Luffy takes when he uses his Devil Fruit power?s to strengthen his body.

Mister Fantastic's pseudo-Gear 4 form is quickly becoming a meme among Marvel Rivals' player base. Many fans are flexing their artistic talent by sharing some outstanding fan art of "Reed D. Richards" on social media. Some are simple drawings that play up th??e joke, but others are full-on comics presenting Reed as?? the protagonist of a Shonen anime I want to read more about.

I've been reading Marvel comics and One Piece for years, and I'm honestly jealous I missed the similarities between Marvel's stretchiest genius and the Straw Hat Pirates' indomitable captain. Now that I've seen it, playing Mister Fantastic in Marvel Rivals has gotten even more fun.

My new favorite anime of 2024 is Solo Leveling Season 1, a nice way to start the year combining two of my favorites: anime and video games. My love only expanded ?with the second season as Sung Jinwoo honed in on his newfound class from the Job Change Quest.

When we last saw Jinwoo, he had just uncovered his new power (spoilers for anyone who hasn't watched the end of Season 1) with Necromancy. The first time I watched this reveal, I was pleasantly surprised to see a class like this. At the most, it's always been the more traditional ones like Fighter or Mage, but never something similar to Necromancy. With Solo Leveling Season 2, also known as Arise from the Shadow, we see Sung finally put this class into action, showing him as? the puppetmaster of the undead.

Jinwoo will need to put the skill to the test when he enters a new gate with fellow hunters. His goal is still the same as the last season: level up to garner enough st??rength for the Demon's Castle. Remember, the castle holds the Holy Water of Life, the potential cure to his mother's deadly illness. This season will likely bring us back to this menacing place, but in the show's current standing, Sung must first deal with the latest gate before getting there.

Solo Leveling Season 2's setting primarily takes place in a snowy environment, differing from the deserty Penalty Zone and castle-like interiors of dungeons. The visuals have more or less stayed the same as Season 1, with a few more developments in shading, which is more than enough considering it was alr?eady visually pleasing from the get-go.

Due to the alteration in the environment, enemies have also changed to match the gate's frosty world. It's the perfect chance for Jinwoo?? to get used to his Necromancy, commanding his soldiers to take out surrounding enemy forces. Sure, it's a little gory to watch, but what can you expect from an anime that started out violently? By the end of the episode, Jinwoo uses Necromancy effortlessly, almost as if we're watching a master at work despite him only unlocking the skill a little while ago.

Although Sung Jinwoo seems like an expert in the art of Necromancy, he still acknowledges that he needs much more room to grow in the episode. That's one of the many things I respect about him since he doesn't entirely let his profound powers get to his head. Well, he does in very few situations, but he typically gets punished for it and? immediately sees the error of his ways. The need to always want to improve oneself and correct mistakes is the main reason why Jinwoo is the GOAT. Humble kings tend to be way more successful, in my opinion, than those who think they're perfect.

Even the characters he's just met in the episode can see just how amazing Sung J?inwoo is, and it's incredibly satisfying for my boy to get the recognition? he deserves. Almost everyone notices his power, taking out beasts that others have died fighting. It's not hard to see the changes in him since Season 1, in light of the new season's very manly, buffed look. Oh, and he's got a fancy new hairdo that makes all the girls simp over. I can already see the string of new thirst trap edits on TikTok.

While Arise from the Shadow's first episode is only the tip of the iceberg, setting up ??the stage for what looks like an epic Season 2, we'll likely be getting more into the nitty-gritty stuff in the next few weeks. There will presumably be many more top-dog moments with Sung ??Jinwoo, too, furthering his status as the greatest of all time.

There are a lot of lingering questions from the first season, like what happened on Jeju Island? And who is the true mastermind of the System? Fortunately, we may get an answer with the first 12 confirmed episodes for the season, releasing every Saturday on Crunchyroll.

Anytime I've been blown away by animation, MAP??PA studio is somehow always involved. First, with its magnum opus of Attack on Titan's final season and again with Jujutsu Kaisen's cinematic showdowns. So, when I heard that MAPPA was responsible for the a??nimation of Zenshu, I knew another masterpiece was brewing.

While I've grown accustomed to their distinct artwork, there's something unique to what they've done with Zenshu. The vibrant colors in each scene remind me of the radiant artistry of Hayao Miyazaki, crafting t??he most picturesque scenes I've ever witnessed in anime. The use of colors is unlike anything MAPPA has done before, as the previous projects have primarily leaned toward a much darker tone. Moreover, the show blends two different art styles when it seamlessly merges separate worlds: one in modern times and the other in a medieval-like universe.

Hirose writing in Zenshu
Image via MAPPA/Crunchyroll

The beginning of Zenshu's first episode depicts the everyday life of the real world, where the main protag?onist, Natsuko Hirose, is a successful animation director. Her first project was a triumph, but sh?e begins to doubt the work of her next potential big hit. As an artist myself, I immensely related to this. This concept is new for a MAPPA show since, for the most part, I've only known them for anime that overflows with intensity and not one that follows the life of an everyday Joe.

At this point in the story, Zenshu could be seen as?? a slice-of-life in hindsight, yet things start to change once you get further into the episode. When Natsuko drowns in her workload, she finds herself waking up in her childhood favorite anime, "A Tale of Perishing." The film is basically all your favorite anime rolled up into one. You've got your stereotypical hero protagonist, Luke Braveheart. A trusty comp?anion at his side that will do anything for him. And, of course, there is some big bad that the ensemble has to defeat to save their world.

Luke Braveheart in Zenshu
Image via MAPPA/Crunchyroll

It brings out one of my favorite cliché tropes: the old world mixes with the new, like when someone from, let's say, the ancient or medieval times mingles into our modern ways of life, like Marvel's Thor and Enchanted's Giselle. In Zenshu, it is Hirose who must deal with ??this Middle Ages world, and her reactions are both realistic and hilarious. She questions the logic of the film significantly when the stead, Unio, by some means, go?es through a majestic transformation in the blink of an eye. How is it possible? I have no idea. But I suppose that's anime logic for ya.

Despite Natsuko's confusion, she starts to use her knowledge of the anime to her advantage. She knows the lines spoken by random side characters and the cataclysmic event that trans?pires not long after. The anime is call??ed "A Tale of Perishing" for a reason, and it's up to Natsuko to decide if she wants to change the show's fate.

I'll leave you in suspense as to what Hirose decides, but I will say that it is more than worth the watch. Zenshu's main character, in particular, is the reason why the show is so enjoyable. The res??t of the cast is great, too, but the first episode doesn't expand on them all that much. It's just lovely to see a female lead take the reigns where men and women alike depend on her guidance. Anime, at least for me, sometimes feels like a man's world, so having a storyline such as this is an exceptional change of pace.

Hirose isn't perfect either; she's incredibly insecure despite being high up on the food chain. She even hides her face with her hair just to be in her own little world. Overall, the depiction of her is what I've been looking for in a female anime character, where she's not dressed up in some sexy get-up, relying on a manly heroic protagonist, or flawless in everything she does. I know that there are some anime out there like this, in light of narratives such as Frieren: Beyond Journey's End and Sailor Moon, but I still feel like there needs to be more.

Hirose in Zenshu
Image via MAPPA/Crunchyroll

Beyond its realistic interpretations of women, Zenshu evokes a sense of nostalgia that reminds me of the first anime I experienced as a kid. It often shows Natsuko Hirose reminiscing about her childhood with A Tale of Perishing, and you can tell how much it still means to her as an adult. As someone w??ho grew up on anime, I can deeply relate to this feeling, and I'm sure you will too if you're a long-time anime fan.

I also like how A Tale of Perishing wasn't even that well-received in Hirose's world, but it meant something to her, nonetheless. There were more than enough times w?hen the critics gutted a favorite show or movie of my childhood, and watching Hirose experience the same turmoil made me reminisce about that. This concept instills a message that even if some people don't like your work, all that matters is that at least one person sees the beauty in it. It's probably something that Hirose needs to learn with her personal projects, which may come in future episodes.

Just by Zenshu's first episode, I've already gotten hooked on the series. Those in the creative arts will feel seen, and anime lovers will remember the nostalgia of the first-ever show that brought them into the anime world. The breathtaking visuals by MAPPA alone may persuade you, as they did for me. And, if you're convinced enough, you can expect new Zenshu episodes to air on Crunchyroll every Sunday.

Blue Lock Season 2 aired its final episode, concluding the intense battle between the Blue Lock XI and Japan's U-20 representatives. While the first season was a massive hit, even pulling non-sports anime fans back into the genre. Unfort?unately, the second season had a different reception. Fans aren't too happy with the second season's animation. Some even went as far as calling it a presentation. While that is mostly true, the match-up between Blue Lock XI and the Japanese U-20 team had some badass moments.

The first part of ?Season 2 covered Blue Lock's selection process for the Blue Lock XI. As such, the list will not entirely consist of moments during Blue Lock's gl?obal debut.

Reo awakening Chameleon in Blue Lock
Image via IMDB

Reo awakening his Chameleon playstyle

Blue Lock players aren't necessarily strangers to constantly evolving and fighting for the right to stay within the spartan training facility. But with the possibility of competing against Japan's official team, they had to work harder to prove themselves. They duked it out in the hopes of becoming par?t of Blue Lock's starting lineup against Japan's U-20 team.

Arguably the best moment during the tryouts is Reo's awakening of a new playstyle the Chameleon?. By analyzing other players, he can copy their movements and even techniques. During the tryouts, he copied Yukimiya's Gyro Shot, proving himself to be a valuable ?striker. However, this new playstyle shined the brightest not during the tryouts but during the match itself. By copying the U-20 defenders, Reo managed to put a stop to their fiercest attacks on his own.

Shidou locked up in Blue Lock
Image via IMDB

Shidou being shipped to the U-20 team

Blue Lock isn't necessarily famed for its re?alist take on soccer, but Season 2 certainly took it up a notch with how Shidou went to the Japanese U-20 team. Instead of simply going by car, walking, or even via plane, Shidou was treated like some high-class criminal. He was not simply muzzled, he was even put in a straitjacket and strapped on a trolley.

Shidou certainly is Blue Lock's rowdiest player, and he did show he would assault ot?hers standing in his way. Even so, treating him like some rabid dog is certainly over the top, though it does leave a lasting impression.

Sae scoring a goal in Blue Lock
Image via IMDB

Sae scoring the first goal

Itoshi Sae was introduced as a genius soccer p?layer, and he proved it right off the bat. He was the first to score a goal during the match, and that was without any help from the U-20 team. In addition, he scored in a very tricky position.

But since it happe?ned during the start of the match, the? players barely warmed up yet. There wasn't much real opposition to his goal, so the goal wasn't as spectacular as the succeeding ones.

Rin celebrating his goal in Blue Lock
Image via IMDB

Rin's response to Sae's goal

The reason Rin is so adamant about becoming the best striker is to chase after his big brother and gain his acknowledgment. As such, it's only proper he follows his brother's goal. Nah, the real reason is his goal?? is just a bit above Sae's.

Just like his brother, Rin executed a very impressive goal. He made the ball curve by hitting it using the outside of his foot. Much more impressive is the fact that he made such a move right in front of Olive??r Aiku, who was known for his almost impenetrable defensive skills. In addition, this maneuver was what made Aiku reconsider his opinion on Blue Loc?k and made him step up his game.

Shidou scoring his first goal in Blue Lock
Image via IMDB

Shidou scoring his first goal

While Shidou is very unruly off the field, he is a true menace inside. The moment he entered the match, he kicked off his explosive performance. He gave? his ??rivals and companions at Blue Lock a hard time, while also quickly syncing up with Sae.

Naturally, the members of Blue Lock XI wouldn't let Shidou run free. Niko did a good job putting a leash on Shidou at first, but the Devil wasn't one to be stopped easily. After all, they had to put a straitjacket on him. After a few missed attempts, Sae proved his superior passing skills by sending a pass that was barely beyond Chigiri's reach. It was then up to Shidou to unleash his devil wings and finish the job, which he?? spectacularly did.

Barou's egoistic goal in Blue Lock Season 2
Image via IMDB

Barou's selfish playstyle

The Blue Lock facility is known for creating egoistic strikers, and Shoei Barou is a prime example ?of that. He might not have successfully made it to the Blue Lock XI roster, but he was one h??eck of a substitute. The moment he entered the field, all he cared about was chasing after and devouring Isagi. He bided his time and struck every time Isagi let his guard down.

However, it was this very same tactic that equalized the score to 3-3. By simply setting his sights on Isagi, Barou managed to find the perfect moment to snatch the ball while Isagi and Aiku were fighting for it??. Since U-20's captain was focused on Isagi, Barou managed to move around, waiting for the perfect moment to p??ounce.

Nagi's introduction of himself to the world

W??hat equalized Sae's game-starting goal wasn't Rin's response; it was Nagi's introductory goal. The fan-favorite trap master did what he does best, instantly killing a?? stray ball. But instead of simply passing it along or clearing it, he used a lift tap to bring the ball into a better position. He then followed up with a jumping turn, which ultimately ended with his wonderful goal.

Even though Nagi seemed like a nonchalant character, he didn't miss the chance to introduce himself to the world after that goal.

Shidou doing a backflip goal in Blue Lock Season

Shidou's devilish second goal

If Shidou’s first goal was explosive, his next one was downright devilish. Coordinating with Sae once again, Shidou pulled off an impossible bicycle kick that seemed more like a work of art than a soccer move. The trajectory of the ball left everyone completely helpless. It was a goal tha?t showcased his raw talent and frightening athleticism.

This goal cemented Shidou as one of the most dangerous pla??yers in the match and proved why he was an invaluable striker desp??ite his unruly nature.

Isagi's goal against U-20 in Blue Lock
Image via IMDB

Isagi's game-winning goal

Throughout the ma??tch, Isagi struggled to make his presence felt amidst the overwhelming talent of players like Sae, Shidou, and Rin. But true to his character, Isagi used his superior spatial awareness and Rin obsession to read the game’s flow and predict the perfect opportunity to strike.

In the final minutes and with the score?? tied, Isagi intercepted a crucial pass and sealed the victory for Blue Lock XI with a stunning direct shot. While it's supposed to be the highlight of the season, it fell a tad short as the build-up wasn't there. The anime omitted Isagi's thinking moments and evolution, making it seem like he simply appeared out of nowhere. However, it was still a spectacular goal and deserves a high ran??king.

Itoshi Rin and Sae duking it out in Blue Lock Season 2

The Itoshi brothers' duel

The true highlight of Blue Lock Season 2 is the face-off between Itoshi Sae and Itoshi Rin. For one, it had the most fluid animation in the season. The other is ?that thei??r duel was very intense.

The brothers' contrasting philosophies and personal grudges played out not just in words but in every move they made on the field. Sae, with his superior skill and composure, was a force to be reckoned with, embodying the pinnacle of technical prowess. On the other hand, Rin’s raw determination and obsession proved he was a formidable foe in his own right. It's just that the match-up ultimately ended up with ??Isagi stealing the limelight.

We've been following the Straw Hat Pirates' exploits for decades now. As we watch them sail from one island to another, we've not only seen their characters develop, but we've also seen the world of One Piece expand. Alongside the introduction of new environments is the debut of numerous side characters. Following this development, One Piece has accrued more than a thousand named characters.

While others may argue that that is already far too many characters and that the series is already too long, fans will (likely) agree that there isn't enough One Piece to consume. We always want more, especially since there are still many angles to cover. To support that argument, here are 10 One Piece side? characters that deserve their ?own spin-off series.

Gol D. Roger's execution in One Piece
Screenshot via ONE PIECE Official YouTube Channel

The Pirate King Gol D. Roger

When it comes to eventful adventures, then the Pirate King himself cannot be excluded. He is, after all, the first to discove?r the titular treasure. Even so, he didn't keep the treasure for himself, and we still don't know the reason why. His greatest feat is single-handedly insinuating the Great Pirate Era. It's no exaggeration to say that without him, then Luffy and Co. would likely not be sailing as the Straw Hat Pirates.

However, Roger is more than just his feats. His journey is arguably far more perilous than Luffy's. He has numerous rivals, both pirates and the g?overnment alike. His ??brief showdown with Whitebeard during Oden's flashback alone was intense enough to excite fans, so what about his legendary exploits like the God Valley Incident?

Victorious Garp in One Piece
Image via IMDB

The Hero of the Marines Monkey D. Garp

Roger's Marine counterpart just as much deserves to have his own spin-off series in his name. While Roger made his name known as a legendary pirate, Garp became a legend of the Marines. Even though they were on opposite?? sides of the law, their rivalry is reminiscent of just any other Shonen series. They even joine??d hands to put a stop to the Rocks Pirates' evil operations. Similar to Roger, Garp also faced a number of formidable foes, including Don Chinjao and Shiki the Golden Lion.

Unlike what we are familiar with, having Garp as a protagonist will breathe fresh air into the narrative. This time, we will be on the side of so?-called justice. In addition, it's also interesting to see how Garp will handle the corruption within the system, especially with Imu, the Five Elders, and the Celestial Dragons.

Joyboy speaking to Emet in One Piece
Image via MANGA Plus

The mythical Joyboy

If Gol D. Roger was the first pirate to discover the mythical One Piece, Joyboy was the being who left it there. However, he wasn't just a simpl?e adventure-seeking lad. He was a chaos-inducing criminal who fought the World Government and its predecessors. Should a sp?in-off series be based on this badass, then action-packed scenes are already guaranteed.

However, Joyboy is more than just a One Piece side character who fights a lot, especially since he is deeply tied to the mysteries of the Void Century. His legacy is intertwined with the Poneglyphs, the Ancient Weapons, and even?? the people of Skypiea, Fish-Man Island, and Wano. A series centered on Joyboy could explore the rise of the Ancient Kingdom, the origins of the World Government, and the events that led to the great war that reshaped the world.

Montblanc Noland in One Piece
Image via IMDB

Montblanc Noland, the so-called liar

Mont Blanc Noland is one of the most tragic yet fascinating side characters in the One Piece world. Remembered as a liar in history but revered as a hero by the people of Jaya, Noland's story is one of misunderstood honor and unyielding courage. A spin-off series about him could expand on his life as a brave adventurer and scientist, exploring his daring journey that ultimately led to his interactions with the Shand?ians.

While Noland's final moments were fully explored during the Skypiea Arc, his prior adventures were merely mentioned in passing. Given his exceptional work as a botanist, the series could further ex?plore and expound on the diverse biomes that exist in different islands, including the Boin Archipelago, where Usopp trained.

Straw Hat Grand Fleet of One Piece
Image via IMDB

Bartolomeo the Cannibal

Bartolomeo, the self-proclaimed “biggest fan?of the Straw Hat Pirates, leads a rather unique pirate group. His journey began with being a small-time thug who decided to form a pirate crew and set sail in pursuit of his idols. However, since his crew consists of his fellow gang members, they have almost zero knowledge of actual sailing. They simply follow one of their crewmates' grandmother's advice every time they e?xperience a hiccup in their journey.

These unorthodox solutions could be the main attraction of a possible spin-off series. It could be a semi-gag m?anga exploring how this ragtag bunch of hoodlums overcame the harsh sea?s of the New World.

Tashigi from One Piece
Image via IMDB

Tashigi, the sword enthusiast

Following dreams and ideals is one recurring theme in One Piece, and side characters are no exception. Captain Tashigi of the Marines is one with an interesting goal. She's an enthusiast of named swords and aims to reclaim the legendary blades from "unworthy" hands, which also sets up the perfect premise for a s?pin-off series.

In a spin-off focused on Tashigi, we could? follow her journey as she embarks on a personal mission to track down and recover these famous swords, traveling across the Grand Line and New World. Each sword she seeks could have its own storied history, tied to legendary figures, forgotten battles, or ancient mysteries. Her pursuit would naturally put her in conflict with powerful pirates, mercenaries, and even corrupt Marines who wield these blades.

Big Mom using Napoleon in One Piece
Image via Crunchyroll

The notorious Big Mom

Charlotte Linlin, better known as Big Mom, is undeniably one of the most fearsome characters in the series. After all, she ruled the seas as? one of the Four Emperors. But more than her military prowess, she has another interesting angle that can be further explored her big family.

Big Mom has this obsession with having a big family. To be exact, she wants her biological family to include every race in the series. As such, the spin-off series revolving around her can further expound on what little we know about the world's diverse demographics. Furthe?rmore, it can reveal how she managed to amass her army of children, as well as her relationship with each of them.

Rocks Pirates in One Piece
Image via IMDB

Rocks D. Xebec

Rocks D. Xebec is known as a mighty pirate comparable to Gol D. Roger himself. He was the captain of the infamous Rocks Pirates, who gathered notorious figures like Big Mom, Kaido, Whitebeard, and Shiki. But despite his legacy, little is known about him. In fact, we d?on't even know what he actually looks like.

Should a spin-off series revolving around him ever happen, then it should happen in an alternate universe. In that way, the series can have darker undertones, following the point of view of a villain. We could then get to see how he charmed his mighty crewmates into joining him, as well as how he would have taken do??wn the world should Roger and Garp fail to stop him.

Foxy in One Piece
Image via IMDB

Foxy the pirate collector

Foxy may be a comedic and less threatening figure compared to other side characters, but his charisma and creativity make him a great candidate for a li??ghthearted spin-off. His Davy Back Fights are the perfect premise for episodic adventures, where he travels the seas challenging other pirate crews to absurd competitions to grow his own crew.

Since we've never heard of Foxy again after his loss to the? Straw Hat Pirates, it just makes the spin-off more possible. For maximum comedic effect, he may even be matched up with Buggy and his men or even a rematch with Luffy and Co. for the finale.

Hatchan from One Piece
Image via IMDB

Hatchan, the adorable octopus Fish-Man

Hatchan, the former officer of Arlong’s crew, has one of the most compelling redemptions among all side characters in One Piece. A spin-off about Hatchan could follow his life after leaving Arlong Park, showcasing his struggles to make amends for his past actions and find his own path. His adventures as a takoyaki vendor alongside Camie and Pappag could serve as a fun and unique premise, blending slice-of-life elements with One Piece’s trademark action and humor.

The series could also explore Hatchan’s efforts to navigate the tensions between Fish-Men and humans, shedding light on the racial conflicts that One Piece often addresses.

The year 2024 has been a banger of a year for anime fans. Amazing new series like DAN DA DAN and Solo Leveling debuted this year, and there are also sequels of beloved franchises like Demon Slayer Hashira Training Arc and Oshi no Ko Season 2. Even though we haven't entered the new year yet, ther?e are already many confirmed 2025 anime series to look forward to.

Naturally, this won't be an exhaustive list. It will only include anime series that are officially announced to air in 2025. That said, here are ten noteworthy shows t?o look forward? to next year!

Sakamoto Days anime
Image via @SAKAMOTODAYS_PR

Sakamoto Days

What's the best way to start the list if not the one featured in the thumbnail? Sakamoto Days is the upcoming anime adaptation of the manga of the same name, which is being published on Weekly Shonen Jump. It's a whacky mixture of John Wick-esque action and Mashle-esque comedy.

The story follow??s Taro Sakamoto, the former top hitman. After finding true love and settling down, he has completely withdrawn from any dirty business. He has even promised not to murder anyone ever again. One day, however, his peace gets broken as active assassins start targeting him.

Sakamoto Days will air its first cour on January 11, while it?s second cour will start sometime in July.

Fire Force Season 3

Fire Force was quick to catch fire and earn itself a fandom when it debuted in 2019. Its popularity continued to rise when Season 2 was released in 2020. However, the anime series suddenly went silent. Fortunately, the anime adaptation is far from getting extinguished as Season 3 is finally set to come out in April next year.

For the uninitiated, Fire Force is set in a world wherein spontaneous human combustion commonly occurs. Human combustion in Fire Force, however, isn't just about setting people ablaze. It turns them into malevolent fire elementals called Infernals, which unsur??prisingly pose a lot of danger. It's the titular department's job to snuff out these tragedies, and each member is trained to combat these powerful Infernals.

One-Punch Man Season 3

When it comes to long-awaited continuations, One-Punch Man can't be ignored. Fans have been clamoring for the anime's next installation since the second season finale mid-2019. As such, fans of the series have been waiting longer than Fire Force fans. But finally, the long wait is over as Season 3 is finally scheduled to air next year.

One-Punch Man is an action-comedy anime that exemplifies itself for parodying superhero narratives. It follows Saitama, who became overpowered after following a certain workout routine. He became so powerful that every opponent he faced was defeated with a single punch, hence the title. Despite the simple premise, t??he plot easily rivals most shonen anime. In addition, the action sequences are simply superb. Hopefully, though, the animation quality is more reminiscent of Season 1 than Season 2.

The Beginning After the End anime
Image via @saikyo2dome on X

The Beginning After the End

2025 isn't just a year of continuations. Yes, there's Sakamoto Days at the very top of the list, but another one won't hurt, right? By that, I'm talking about the anime adaptation of the webcomic The Beginning After the End. The webcomic, which can be read on Tapas, has received A warm reception from fans, recording millions of readers. The question, however, is whether it will receive the same reception from anime fans. Personally, I think it ??will, especially for fans of the isekai genre.

This anime follows the story of King Grey, who found himself in the body of the newborn Arthur Leywin after meeting his end. With the knowledge of his past life, he explores his new world and gets into some twisted conspiracies. If that premise sounds familiar, it's likely because a lot of isekai shows follow a similar storyline. But what separates The Beginning After the End from the o?thers, is its lack of fanservice and heavy focus on its narrative a?nd character development.

The Beginning After the End anime is slated to air in April 2025, though there is still no specific ?release date just yet.

ZENSHU poster
Image via ©ZENSHU/MAPPA

ZENSHU

Another noteworthy new series is MAPPA's ZENSHU. It's an original series from the renowned studio. Given that the studio is behind beloved franchises like Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan, and Chainsaw Man, it's intriguing to see what they can ??come up with when lef?t to their own devices.

The story will follow Natsuko Hirose, a genius animator. She began her career?? right after graduating high school and immediately cl?imbed the ladder to become a director. With her first project becoming an instant hit, she was immediately dubbed as an up-and-coming genius director. However, her next project wasn't going as smoothly as she wanted due to two reasons. It was a romantic comedy, and she had absolutely no experience with love.

ZENSHU will start airing on January 5.

DAN DA DAN - Season 2 - Announcement Visual

DAN DA DAN Season 2

2024 was a great year for anime fans. We saw many hit anime series released this year, and fortunately, we will be seeing more in 2025. A great example of that would be this season's top-ranking series, DAN DA DAN.

This whacky new anime immediately established itself as one of the best shonen anime to ever exist. It not only has cool superpowers that involve supernatural creatures, but it also has a lovable cast of characters with their own unique quirks. With Season 1 ending in an abysmal cliffhanger, it's only natural to crave more. Fortunately, the second season will come out July next year.

Solo Leveling Season 2 poster
Image via ©Solo Leveling Animation Partners

Solo Leveling Season 2 -Arise from the Shadow-

Solo Leveling is yet another hit series that debuted this year. Much like The Beginning After the End, this also started in a web novel that was later adapted into a webcomic. But even before the anime adaptation, Solo Leveling was already huge, already having tens of millions of views. Certainly, the anime did not disappoint.

Solo Leveling's premise is si??mple. The Earth as we know it has been invaded by monsters through mysterious portals connecting to different dungeons. In order to defend the planet, some humans have begun to awaken supernatural abilities. They are then referred to as Hunters. The main character, Sung Jinwoo, is known to be the weakest Hunter there is. But durin??g a mishap in a double dungeon, he awakens a unique ability leveling up without limits.

More of Jinwoo's exploits will air starting January 4.

My Hero Academia Final Season

Now, it's time for the big hitters. Coming next year is the animated conclusion of the My Hero Academia saga. The manga already ended in August this year, but Season 8 of the anime is slated to come out in Fall 2025.

Deku debuted on the small screen in April 2016, and he and his classmates in Class 1-A have consistently delivered action-packed entertainment to us fans. While the manga ending received mixed reception, it is still exc??iting to witness the finale of Deku and Co.'s battle against evil in animated form.

Demon Slayer Infinity Castle movie trilogy

Another beloved anime franchise to start its finale in 2025 is Demon Slayer. But unlike other series, Demon Slayer won't be ending its saga in the typical seasonal format. Instead, it will conclude via a movie trilogy. The first of these movies will be in cinemas sometime next year.

The first season of Demon Slayer came out in 2019, and releasing in movie form isn't new to the franchise. Every season, the anime will either premiere its first few episodes or the entire season in a compilation film format. A prime example of that would be the movie Demon Slayer: Mugen Train.

Resumption of One Piece's regular programming

The One Piece anime went on a surprise hiatus starting October this year, citing a much-needed break for the whole team as the reason. Fortunately, fans weren't necessarily left hanging. One Piece Fan Letter, which? is an undeniable masterpiece of a special, and a revamped version of the Fish-Man Island Saga?? is airing in its place. While that does help fill the void a little bit, we still can't wait to see Luffy and Co. continue their journey.

Unfortunately, we can only indulge in the manga and the crisper animation of the edited Fish-Man Island Saga as we wait for the resumption of One Piece anime's regular programming in April.

Kazuki Yao, the legendary voice actor of Franky in One Piece, recently announced that he's stepping down from the role due to health concerns. And no?w, he and his co-stars finally revealed who will take on the of the iconic cyborg sh??ipwright during Jump Festa 2025.

The One Piece panel of Jump Festa 2025 was quite touching, as Shueisha and Toei Animation held a wholesome graduation ceremony for Kazuki Yao and all the other talented actors of the Straw Hat Pirates were present. This ??was a truly special occasion, s?ince he voiced Franky and many other characters in the show for over 24 years, and it's quite unfortunate that he couldn't make it to the end of the show.

Kazuki Yao, Subaru Kimura and the main cast of One Piece in Jump Festa 2025.
Image via @Eiichiro_Staff/Twitter

The man who will replace Yao as the new voice of Franky is none other than Subaru Kimura, a German-Japanese actor, voice actor and rapper who is famous for voicing Aoi Todo in Jujutsu Kaisen, Pesci in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Vento Aureo, Takeshi Goda in Doraemon and more. Yao himself helped choose Kimura as his replacement, and he even introduced him on stage during the event, taught him? how to do Franky's iconic "SUPER!" pose, and "passed on the torch" by giving him a replica of the ch????aracter's iconic red speedo.

This was a truly emotional farewell, both for the longtime fans who have enjoyed Yao's performance as Franky since 2005 and for the rest of the main cast who have been working alongside him for so many years. In his final message, Yao thanked everybody for the support (fans, his co-stars, his wife and Eiichiro Oda himself) and mentioned how Mayumi Tanaka, Luffy's voice actress, couldn't stop crying on-stage.?? His r??ole as Franky was truly legendary, and fans around the world will certainly miss him.

When is Kimura going to start voicing Franky in the One Piece anime?

Filling in the shoes of the legendary Kazuki Yao is not going to be easy for Subaru Kimura, but we still haven't had an opportunity to hear his performance as Franky. However, conside?ring that Yao himself helped choose him, that he's a seasoned voice actor and that he already seems to be getting along with the other Straw Hat Pirates' voice actors, he will most likely do a great job at it, even though he will inevitably sound quite different from his predecessor. Nevertheless, we will have to wait a few more months before we can hear him as Franky.

The current story arc of the One Piece anime, the Egghead Arc, is on hiatus while Toei Animation is airing a remastered version of the Fish-Man Island on TV (which is also available on streaming). However, the ??Jump Fes?ta 2025 panel confirmed that the Egghead Arc will return on April 6, 2025. So,?? not only is this amazing story going to return in less than 4 months, but we will also get to hear Kimura's performa??nce as Franky around that time.

During Jump Festa 2025, the legendary Studio MAPPA unveiled a brand-new trailer for the upcoming Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc. Fortunately, it also uploaded it to its official YouTube Channel, which allowed fans around the world to take their first true glimps??e of this?? ambitious cinematic project.

//youtu.be/d1n552v1ng0

MAPPA always delivers with some hig??h-quality ani??mation, and the upcoming Chainsaw Man movie is obviously no exception. This trailer showcases some fluid movement, stunning action scenes and carefully crafted lighting and cinematography. It's evident that the higher budget cinematic production is benefiting this film, and it already looks better than season 1 of the Chainsaw Man anime (Even though the art style i?s a bit?? different).

The trailer also confirms that Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc will come out in theaters sometime in 2025, which is great news for fans who worried they were not go??ing to be able to watch it until 2026 and beyond. The director of this film is Tatsuya Yoshihara, who also worked as a director on Black Clover, and the entire Japanese voice cast from the anime will return to their roles, with the new addition of Reina Ueda as the titular Re??z??e.

Is the upcoming Chainsaw Man film canon or not?

Two new Key Visuals for the Chainsaw Man Reze Arc movie.
Two new Key Visuals for the movie, via @CHAINSAWMAN_PR/Twitter

Don't be mistaken, because Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc is not your typical non-canon filler anime movie created to market the main series. In reality, it will cover one of the most important canonical story arcs from the original manga, and it will pick up exactly where the final episode of season 1 left. On top of that, if MAPPA greenlights a second season of the Chainsaw Man anime in the future, its plot will follow the events of this film. Because of this, I advise fans who haven't read the manga to refrain from watching this new trailer, as it contains ?various spoilers, including a brief glimpse at the arc's clim?ax.

Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc is yet another example of a new trend within the anime industry that began with the monumental success of Demon Slayer - The Movie: Mugen Train back in 2020. Nowadays, animation studios prefer to adap??t canonical arcs into feature films instead of creating brand-new stories that weren't present in the original manga. Studio MAPPA itself also delved into this trend a few years back when it released the movie adaptation of Jujutsu Kaisen 0 in 2021, which also ended up becoming a huge worldwide success. This means that fans of the Chainsaw Man anime will not want to miss the Reze Arc movie when it arrives in theaters sometime next year.

During Jump Festa 2025, TOHO Animation announced that the My Hero Academia spin-off manga, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, is finally getting an animated adaptation, and Bones (the same studio behind the main series) is in? charge of animating it.

//youtu.be/zy48boIzTH8

TOHO uploaded the first official trailer on its YouTube Channel, and it looks absolutely amazing, as it showcases the main characters of My Hero Aca??demia: Vigilantes (The Crawler, Pop Step and Knuckleduster) moving around with the high-quality animation we usually expect from Bones. The best part is that we won't have to wait very l?ong for this new series since it will begin airing on April 2025, in just 4 months.

This is an especially interesting release schedule for Vigilantes, because TOHO and Bones also confirmed that the eight a??nd final seas??on of My Hero Academia will come out later in the same year, in Fall 2025. This IP been extremely successful for both companies, so while it's no surprise that they clearly want to keep it alive after the conclusion of the original show, it's interesting that they are already planning to release the spin-off a few months before that. Nevertheless, the plot of Vigilantes is quite extensive, so they? will most likely need a few mor??e seasons to adapt it in its entirety.

What is My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, exactly?

Koichi Himawari (The Crawler) using his quirk in My Hero Academia Vigilantes.
Screenshot via TOHO animation/YouTube

While fans of the My Hero Academia manga are already celebrating the long-awaited announcement of this new anime, many others are wondering what exactly Vigilantes is. This was a spin-off manga that Hideyuki Furuhashi wrote, Betten Court illustrated, and Kohei Horikoshi himself (the author of the original MHA manga) su??pervised. It was published on S?honen Jump+ from 2017 to 2022, and it had 126 different chapters by the time it concluded.

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes foll??ows the story of Koichi Haimawari, a 19-year-old man who was never able to become a Pro Hero due to his seemingly weak and insignificant Quirk. However, after meeting characters like Pop Step and Knuckleduster, he learns about the titula?r Vigilantes, renegade heroes without official licenses who often have to ignore the law in order to help save people.

This spin-off fleshed out the world of this series in brilliant ways, not to mention that it's actually a prequel that takes place a few years before the beginning of My Hero Academi??a and, as a result, it explains some important details that Horikoshi never revealed during the main manga. My Hero Academia: Vigilantes features a gripping storyline with memorable heroes & villains and epic fight scenes, so its upcoming animated adaptation has the potential to become something truly special.

In addition, Crunchyroll will reportedly stream the season as it airs.

Furthermore, Director Kaori Makita, who helmed the critically acclaimed first season, shared he?r enthusiasm and thoughts on continuing the story??:

"Thank you to those who watched the first season of Hell's Paradise and waiting for the second season!

I am happy to be able to work on the story of Gabimaru and his friends again. In the first season, each of the characters survived while facing troubles. How will we depict the changes in their hearts this time? How should we depict that scene in the original manga? I am back the days to think about Gabimaru and his friends every day.

The second season of Hell's Paradise is being produced in a very good atmosphere with a lot of staff members who are full of love for the series. We hope you are looking forward to it."

The DAN DA DAN anime has captured the hearts of fans with its unique blend of supernatural elements, humor, and thrilling action. But while the first season was an absolute banger, it isn't without flaws. After all, it ended its first season in a terrible cliffhanger, leaving fans in a state of disarray. That may be an exaggeration... or maybe not.

Fortunately, the wait won't be that long. The second season is already slated to air in July 2025. But for those who can't wait, there's always the option of reading the manga. Naturally, that begs the question of where the DAN DA DAN Season 1 ends in the manga. The specific scene wherein Jiji and Okarun found the my?sterious room would be the sta??rt of Chapter 34, so anime fans may simply start reading from there.

The Dandadan manga can be read for free through MANGA Plus or VIZ.

DAN DA DAN's Cursed House Arc

Season 1 does a good job setting up the Cursed House Arc. The story starts with Jiji approaching Seiko to help exorcise his house. However since Seiko's power is?? only limited to her territory, she sent Momo to do the deed instead. While she couldn't find powerful?? spirit energy at first, things became disastrous after Okarun and Jiji discovered the mysterious room.

Immediately after their discovery, the house was visited by Jiji's landlord, the Kito family. Coincidentally, the group of creepy perverts haunting Momo in the hot spring also came from the same clan. They proceeded to harass Jiji and Okarun, intending to offer them alongside Mo??mo to the?? so-called Tsuchinoko.

While the Tsuchinoko technically haunted the house, the being Jiji kept se?eing would be another entity. Interestingly, i?t would be both a blessing and a curse.

DAN DA DAN is undeniably one, if not the best, of the best anime series of the Fall 2024 anime season. It's a whacky mix of comedy, action, and romance, featuring a bunch of cryptids and aliens. But while it gave a remarkable first season, it ended in a criminal cliffhanger. The season leaves the fans hanging at the crux of a new arc the discovery of a mysterious room in Jiji's house. Fortunately for fans, however, DAN DA DAN Season 2 is already confirmed.

DAN DA DAN will officially return for a second season in July 2025, just in time for the summer anime season. The announcement came immediately following the season finale, alongside an eerily cool visual. Crunchyroll also announces the streaming availability of the new season on its platform.

About DAN DA DAN

The anime series is adapted from Yukinobu Tatsu’s breakout manga of the same name, serialized in Shonen Jump Plus by Shueisha. Known for its thrilling mix of supernatural horror, ?sci-fi, and irreverent comedy, the manga quickly gained a dedica??ted fanbase for its unpredictable storylines and lovable characters.

The renowned Science SARU animation studio brought the series to life. Fuga Yamashiro helmed the project, marking his impressive directorial debut. Kensuke Ushio, who also worked on Chainsaw Man, was responsible for the series' original music.

For the uninitiated, Crunchyroll describes the story:
"When high schooler Momo, from a family of spirit mediums, first meets her classmate Okarun, an occult geek, they argue—Momo believes in ghosts but denies aliens, and Okarun believes in aliens but denies ghosts. When it turns out both phenomena are real, Momo awakens a hidden power and Okarun gains the power of a curse. Together, they must challenge the paranormal forces threatening their world."

Fairy Tail first became serialized in Weekly Shōnen Magazine way back in ??2006, and over the last 18 years, there have been 63 volumes of the original manga totaling 545 chapters, 328 episodes of the? anime, nine OVAs, two fully fledged movies, and additional spin-offs. That’s a lot of lore to sift through.

In total, discounting the hours it would take to get through all 63 volumes of the manga, that’s way over 100 hours of watch time. We all lead busy lives, and finding 100 extra hours to watch Fairy Tail from start to finish is a big ask, so it’s understandable if you??’d rather watch the main arcs and avoid all of the optional filler.

Set in a world where piracy is at an all-time high, it isn't surprising that One Piece has plenty of powerful warriors. While the addition of whacky Devil Fruit abilities makes the power struggle between the major factions far more intense, some characters rely on swordsmanship to dominate the high seas. This then raises the question of who the strongest swordsman in One Piece is.

Before jumping into the list, let's clear something up first. I only included characters who use swords as their primary weapons. Further??more, their fighting style should be swordsmanship primarily. In that sense, Big Mom, while be??ing one of the strongest characters who uses a sword, doesn't qualify for the list. For discussion's sake, the list will also include characters in their prime state.

Jack the Drought in One Piece
Image via IMDB

Jack the Drought

Jack was one of Kaido's strongest henchmen. Specifically, he was the Emperor?'s third strongest underling, which he pro??ved numerous times. During the fight on Zou, he took on the alternating assault of Cat Viper and Dogstorm's forces for days on end. He also fought the prime Ashura Doji on numerous instances in an attempt to recruit him to the Animal Kingdom Pirates.

As one of the highest-ranking members of the Animal Kingdom Pirates, Jack possessed a powerful Zoan Devil Fruit. He ate the Eleph-Eleph Fruit, Model: Mammoth. While his animal form granted him increased strength and dur??ability, Jack was strongest when utilizing his two curved blades in his hybrid form.

Kozuki Oden in One Piece
Image via IMDB

Kozuki Oden

Kozuki Oden is arguably the strongest samurai in Wano's history. He was the former Daimyo of Kuri and was the son of the former Shogun ??Kozuki Su??kiyaki. But despite being of royal descent, Oden was a pure rascal. He was constantly seeking troubles in the guise of adventure. Even so, he was one mighty swordsman.

Oden wielded two named swords: Enma and Ame no Habakiri. These swords allowed him to defeat ??most of his enemies, including a so-called Mountain God. However, his greatest feat was injuring the highly durable Kaido. Unfortunately, though, he wasn't strong enough to take down the former Emperor. In addition, he also miserably lost to both Whitebeard and Roger.

Admiral Fujitora in One Piece
Image via IMDB

Admiral Fujitora

Admiral Fujitora is one the strongest swordsmen the Marines have to offer. Being an Admiral alone is proof of his strength. Unfortunately, however, we still haven't seen him exert himself in a fight. Even so, he has shown enough ??to prove he is a force to be reckoned with.

He is a swordsman wh??o has eaten the Press-Press Fruit, giving him gravitational control. He combines his Devil Fruit abilities with his swordsmanship to take down even the mightiest foes. Even though he has yet to show his full potential, he is at least strong enough to walk away unscathed in a three-way fight against Doflamingo and Law?.

Roronoa Zoro flying to cut King in One Piece

Roronoa Zoro

The Straw Hat Pirates' very own Roronoa Zoro cannot be left behind when listing down the strongest swordsmen in One Piece, especially since it's his dream to claim the Strongest Swordsman title. Certa?inly,?? he has come a long way since his debut, though arguably still not enough to stand at the top.

Zoro is a master swordsman who uses the three-??sword style. His craziest feats include cutting down the mountainous Pica and slashing Kaido a feat that only Oden achieved before. Furthermore, he took down the almost invincible King. Given that the Straw Hats are yet to arrive on Laugh Tale, he has likely not yet reached his prime.

Trafalgar Law from One-Piece
Image via Crunchyroll

Trafalgar D. Water Law

Law may be more known for his Devil Fruit abilities, but he certainly is a swordsman. He was trained in swordsmanship by Diamante at? a very young age, which he further honed as he grew up. Just like Fujitora, Law uses his Devil Fruit abilities in tandem with his swordsmanship.

He is undeniably the strongest once he activates his Devil Fruit Awakening. Thi??s allowed him to ultimately beat Big Mom, albeit with the help of Kid. Even before that, he managed to cut down Vergo, who clad his entire body in Color of Armament Haki. Unfortunately, though?, he still wasn't at Emperor level as his crew miserably lost to Blackbeard's crew.

Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro in One Piece
Image via One Piece Wiki

Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro

The Five Elders have finally made a move, and they certainly didn't disappoint. Each one possessed formidable battle prowess, including the Godhead of Finance Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro. He is the only swordsman among the original five. Just like the others he also possesses a Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit. Nusjuro's Devil Fruit allows him to transform into a Bakotsu, a yokai that appears like a flaming, skeletal horse.

However, he wouldn't be a candidate for being the strongest swordsman in One Piece if he only relied on his Devil Fruit. He is a master swordsman capable of deliv?ering a succession of precise slashes, even as he gallops in his human-beast form. By using his swordsmanship with his Devil Fruit ability, he? can freeze his enemies' insides without dealing any external damage.

Strongest Swordsman Mihawk in One Piece
Image via IMDB

Dracule Mihawk

Dracule Mihawk is the current holder of the Strongest Swordsman ti??tle in the series, and he certainly deserves it. Despite not having anyone under his rule, he was still feared by many as one of the Seven Warlords. During his stint as such, he participated in the Paramount War, easily slicing a gigantic iceberg.

He was also Shanks' sparring partner when the Emperor still had both hands, and their fights usually ended in draws. He lost interest in fighting the Emperor after he lost his arm, stating h??e was no longer at his best. Interestingly, Mihawk has yet to show his full fighting potentia?l. With Zoro gunning for his title, the Staw Hat may be the one to force the swordsman's true strength.

Being Mihawk's former sparring partner also proves Shanks' swordsmanship is top-notch. However, I will have to disagree with Mihawk's assessment of him. As the only remaining Emperor from the original Four Emperors, Shanks is far from weakened. He may have even become stronger, though it's hard to tell given how little screen time he gets.

Even so, Shanks has proven on multiple occasions how powerful he is. He and his crew were the ones who ultimately stopped the Paramount War. Furthermore, he one-s??hotted Kid and his crew. This feat speaks volumes as it was after Kid teamed up with Law to take down Big Mom.

Shanks is also a ver?y powerful Haki user, so much so that his mere presence would knock down weaker individuals. His Color of Observation Haki is also powerful enough to see into the immediate future.

Dark King Rayleigh in One Piece

Dark King Rayleigh

Rayleigh may have received most of his screentime way past his prime,?? but he certainly is still one of the strongest swordsmen in the series. His feats as an old man are proof of how strong he was duri??ng his prime.

When the Straw Hats were being besieged by Kizaru and the Pacif?ista in Sabaody Archipelago, Rayleigh stepped in and stopped the Admiral. As such, Kizaru backed down. Even though Kizaru could possibly win at the time, it wouldn't be an easy battle for him. Furthermore, it was due to Rayleigh and Jimbei's help that Luffy managed to infiltrate Marineford once more and deliver his message to the other Straw Hats.

Given these f?eats and the fact that Rayleigh was the Roger Pirates' second-in-command, it's highly likely that prime Rayleigh is second only to prime?? Roger in terms of strength.

Gol D. Roger unleashing his Haki in One Piece

Gol D. Roger

Every One Piece fan knows who Gol D. Roger is. ?It's not just because he is the renowned Pirate King, but also because his face is the first to show during the first episodes of the anime.

Durin??g his reign as the number one pirate, Gol D. Roger was undispu?ted. Even the Hero of the Marines, Monkey D. Garp, failed to defeat him during their many fights. In fact, the Marines didn't actually capture him. He merely surrendered given that he was already beyond saving.

As the Pirate King, Roger's swordsmanshi??p is top-notch. In addition, he also has mastery over Haki. Prime Roger was strong enough to beat Oden with a single?? strike. He also fought prime Whitebeard for days, only for it to end in a draw.

Kazuki Yao, the talented voice actor who voices Franky (and many other characters) in the Japanese version of One Piece, recently announced on his personal Twitter/X account that he's stepping down from his most iconic role aft?er ma??ny years.

//twitter.com/yaochan_defu/status/1865565712821227952

In this bittersweet announcement (which @newworldartur translated into English), Yao explains that it's finally time to say goodbye to Franky after spending over a quarter of a century with him and that he "decided to get off the (Thousand) Sunny." He also revealed that, even though he feels frustrated and sad over this decision, Toei Animation has already found a "SUPER" replacement who will be revealed on December 22, during the upcoming Jump Festa 2025. The official One Piece account also revealed that thi?s was a decision that Yao made after "lengthy discussions" and that Shueisha would hold a graduation ceremony for him during said event.

This is a very sad announcement for One Piece fans, who flooded Yao's social media with pictures of his characters and thank you messages, but this wasn't much of a surprise for most of them. Back in October, the official One Piece accounts announced? that the anime was recasting the character of Jan??go for one episode due to concerns regardin?g Yao's health.

While he didn't specify why he decided to step down from the role of Franky, it's most likely that he had to do it due to these aforementioned health concerns, especially after many fans noticed that the character's voice had been sounding more strained in the past few years. It's important to keep in mind that the One Piece anime is currently airing a remastered version of the Fish-Man Island Arc while the current Egghead Arc is on hiatus, so we won't get to hear Franky's ??new voice until April 2025.

Kazuki Yao's departure from One Piece is more important than you think

While it's nice that Kazuki Yao is able to retire without straining his voice any further, his departure from the show is quite sad. After all, One Piece fans were hoping that all the members of the main cast would be able to reach the show's long-awaited conclusion together. This situation is especially unfortunate for Yao because, unlike most other Japanese voice actors, the series' author, Ei?ichiro Oda, created Franky specifically for him to voice.

Yao began working in One Piece back in 2000 when he portrayed the hypnotist Jango during the Syrup Village Arc. He later went to voice one of the most bizarre and beloved One Piece characters, Bon Clay, who debuted during the Arabasta Arc and made multiple subsequent appearances after that. But, when it was time to design the future shipwright of the Straw Hat Pirates, Oda created Franky with Yao's unique voice in mind, which is a testament to his t?alent and how perfectly he fits the series' goofy and lighthearted tone.

Franky was created specifically for Yao, not to mention that he also brought two other iconic characters to life, so his departure from One Piece is even more ??unfortunate and important than you may initially think. While his replacement is? most likely going to do a great job in the role, this show won't be the same without Kazuki Yao, and all fans will certainly miss him.

Another extraterrestrial being makes its debut in DAN DA DAN, and it has certainly made waves, literally. The Serpoians still haven't given up on taking Okarun's banana organ, and they've brought some help this time around. One is the mantis shrimp alien and th??e other is the Nessie.

Since everyone knows about the Nessie, let's talk about the mantis shrimp alien instead. Just like Turbo Granny or Acrobatic Silky, this alien follows a certain real-world l??ore, specifically that of the Dover Demon. Furthermore, it makes a number of pop culture references.

Warning: The following contains spoilers for Dandadan manga.

The mantis shrimp alien in DAN DA DAN

The mantis shrimp alien or the Dover Demon UMA, which will later be known as Mr. Mantis Shrimp, is a mercenary hired by the Serpoians. However, its?? service won't be a one-??time thing. It will be one of the mainstay aliens in the series.

Much like most of us, the reason Mr. Mantis Shrimp works for the Serpo is money. He has a family f?rom his ?home planet, but they suffered a tragedy. His wife met an untimely death, leaving him and his son. With his son needing a blood transfusion, Mr. Mantis Shrimp is forced to take on dangerous gigs like working for the Serpo to take Okarun's schlong.

Mr. Mantis Shrimp has a muscular human-like body, while his head is that of a crab. Interestingly, his eyes alter from that of a crab to that of a hu?man. He also has yellow skin and uses boxing gloves as a weapon. While his appearance is more crab-like, his fighting skills are more akin to a mantis shrimp. Even though his punches are already packed on land, the force increases ten times in water. The downside, however, is that he cannot breathe underwater. Because of this, he is forced to f??requently surface during his battles.

Real-world lore of the Dover Demon

The Dover Demon ?gets its name from a series of sightings in Dover, Massachusetts, which happened over two nights in April 1977. The first sighting occurred on the evening of April 21, when 17-year-old William Bartlett claimed to have seen a strange creature while driving down a dark, rural road. Bartlett pictured it as a small humanoid figure. Furthermore, he described it as having a disproportionately large, egg-shaped head, glowing orange eyes, and spindly limbs.

Bartlett’s account was soon corroborated by two other teenager?s, John Baxter and Abby Brabham, who reported similar encounters in the same area over the next day. But due to the brief sightings, only the off-looking appearance is known about the Dover Demon.

Mr. Mantis Shrimp's pop culture references

The lack of information behind the cryptid gives plenty of room for creative freedom, which is mostly used to make pop culture references. For one, Mr. Mantis Shrimp's transformation after being injected with Serpo's serum is heavily inspired by Ultraman's Alien Baltan. This isn't surprising as it's not the first time DAN DA DAN took inspiration from the franchise. As a matter of fact, the Serpo's original form is reminiscent of the series' Dada Race.

Other references are more music-inclined. The more obvious one is a reference to ABBA's "Chiquitita," which Mr. Mantis Shrimp was singing during his initial showdown with Okarun and Aira. Another clever homage draws from vintage Japanese energy drink commercials. These commercials became renowned in Japan for their ca??tchphrase "Can you fight for 24 hours?". This reference cleverly underscores Mr. Mantis Shrimp's struggle as an overworked gig worker.

Anime and manga aren't necessarily the best producers of good parental figures. Despite being for young boys, shonen anime and manga are notorious for this. One Piece, in particular, has some of the worst paren?ts. It ranges from the usual deadbeat father to the outright heinous crime against ?humanity.

You can argue that should be expected, as the series is literally about crimes and piracy. But surprisingly, being on the side of justice doesn't equate to being a good parent. In fact, some of the best parents are pirates. Meanwhile, here are the ten worst parents in One Piece.

Red-Hair Shanks from One Piece
Image via IMDB

Monkey D. Dragon

The Revolutionary Army's leader, Monkey D. Dragon, is good at liberating oppressed kingdoms, but he isn't the best father around. He may be Luffy's father, but Luffy didn't even know of his existence until he became a pirate. Being the numb-headed idiot that he is, h??e thinks that he didn't even have a father because Drag?on left his family around Luffy's birth and never looked back.

To be fair to the Revolutionary Army's enigmatic leader, he did so knowing his stature. Being the so-called World's Worst Criminal, being known as? his son would only put his family in danger. Furthermore, he also saved Luffy from Smoker's crutches in L??oguetown. So, while he isn't the ideal father, he is also not the worst of the bunch.

Yasopp from One Piece
Image via IMDB

Yasopp

Yasopp is pretty much in the same league as Dragon, but worse. Yasopp has always wanted to sail the seas. When Shanks first? invited him, he surprisingly refused. He then proceeded to get his partner pregnant, ultimately leading to Usopp. However, he did eventually wavered, went to get milk, a?nd never looked back.

To be fair, he did join the Red-Hair Pirates, which is one of the strongest pirate crews in the series.?? But unlike Dragon, he doesn't have a noble reason for leaving behind his child. He simply couldn't resist the temptation o??f adventure. In fact, even Yasopp himself agrees he is an awful father.

Morgan and the Marines in One Piece
Image via IMDB

Axe-Hand Morgan

Axe-Hand Morgan ruled? his base in tyranny and saw any incompetent soldier as trash. Unsurprisingly, he holds the same sentiment even to his own blood. While he let Helmeppo do his own bidding -- even abuse his au?thority as his son -- Morgan only did so as he viewed hitting the boy as unworthy of his time. He further proved this when he ultimately smacked Helmeppo after the latter reported Luffy's atrocities.

Even after all that, however, Helmeppo didn'??t completely let go of his filial love. It was only when Morgan used Helmeppo's affection toward him that the boy woke up to reality. When Morgan was being transported, he held his son hostage in the hopes of escaping. Unfortunately, his ploy didn't succeed, proving only how trashy ?he is as a father and as a person.

Diez Barrels in One Piece
Image via One Piece Wiki

Diez Barrels

Diez Barrels' story is interesting. He used to be a noble Marine officer doing good deeds. In fact, his feats as a Marine officer spurred his son, X·Drake, to look up to him. Somewhere along the line, however, ?he strayed from the path of goodness. He turned to piracy and formed the Barrels Pirates. During that time, he also began to abuse his son. He not only physically hurt him but also treated him like a lackey.

Due to his abuse, X·Drake eventually lost all respect for his father. Fortunately, he was freed from his father's crutches when his deal with Doflamingo on Mi?nion Island went south.

Outlook III in One Piece
Image via IMDB

Outlook III

Hearing the name Outlook III may not ring any bells, especially since his only role is to be one of the worst parents in One Piece. Outlook III is Sabo's bi?ological father and a noble of the Goa Kingdom. Much like most aristocrats, all he cared about was ma??intaining and elevating his social status. Unfortunately for him, Sabo was exactly the opposite. The young boy wanted freedom and adventure.

In Outlook III's eyes, however, Sabo didn't have any freedom of choice. He was just a tool for him to use. As such, he forced Sabo to study and do his bidding, with the ultimate goal of marrying a princess. Since he also looked down on commoners, he saw Luffy and Ace as nothin??g but trash. When Sabo disobeyed him, he threatened his son that he would kill the young boys.

Garp hitting Luffy in One Piece
Image via IMDB

Monkey D. Garp

Despite being mighty warriors, being a good parent d??oesn't seem to be in the Monkey family's blood. At the very least, their definition of goods is on the skewed side. Unlike the others on this list, the members of the Monkey family at least care for their brood.

Even though Garp's parenting on Dragon hasn't been shown in the series, we can hazard a guess from how he treated Luffy. Since Dragon wen??t caput as a father, Garp has taken care of his grandchild. He wanted the boy to follow in his footsteps as a valiant Marine officer. Garp was aware of how dangerous the job could be, so buildi??ng up strength was paramount. His means of doing that, however, was questionable at best.

Even before the age of six, he had already brought Luffy into dangerous situations. He threw him into a deep ravine, tied h??im to a balloon, and even left him alone in the wild. After Luffy acquired his Devil Fruit and was left behind by the Red-Hair Pirates, Garp made a group of mountain bandits take care of him. Unsurprisingly, it was the same thing he did to the young Ace.

Bingo in One Piece
Image via One Piece Wiki

Bingo

From this point onwards, bad parenting skills have taken up a notch. Arguably, the lightest offender among them is Bingo from Wano. He is an??other character you may not recognize at a glance. To be fair, he isn't really someone noteworthy. However, that doesn't make him less despicable as both a father and a human being.

Bingo worked as a monk and mortician. But alongside his accomplices Bungo and Bongo, he spiraled into darkness and started scamming others. They set fire to citizens' homes?? and then charged the poor victims exorbitant prices. But how exactly does he belong in this list? Well, that's because karma hit him in the form of Komurasaki. The renowned courtesan scammed Bingo, asking him for a cosmic amount in exchange for her supposed freedom. Afterward, she promised to elope with him.

To reach that amount, Bingo sold everyone in his possessio?n, incl?uding his family.

Bruised up Yamato in One Piece
Image via IMDB

Kaido

Kaido only?? had one child, Yamato. For all we know, he might have been a decent father to her during her younger days. However, things definitely changed when Yamato started ?following Oden's footsteps.

As Oden's greatest nemesis, Kaido couldn't take that his child wanted to inherit his enemy's will. He firs?t tried to beat sense into the young child, and when that didn't work, he threw her into the cave. However, it wasn't any ordinary cave. It was where the most fearsome samurai all of whom despised Kaido's guts were kept. To make matters worse, they were armed and famished, while Yamato was bound in chains. Fortunately, the imprisoned samurai were loyal to Oden and didn't harm the child, claiming to be Oden himself.

Big Mom Pirates of One Piece
Image via IMDB

Big Mom

Big Mom may have a big family, but she isn't particularly a good mother. Despite growing in age, her demeanor never seemed to have outgrown being a young girl. Her big family was nothing more than the manif??estation of her wanting to have a family con?sisting of all races. Furthermore, she was treated as mere underlings and henchmen.

She had no qualms about attacking them or even killing them on certain occasions should they fail to meet her expectations. In fact, she constantl?y hits Chiffon because she resembles her twin sister, Lola.

Sanji looking at Vinsmoke Judge's portrait in One Piece
Image via IMDB

Vinsmoke Judge

Looking through this list, there is certainly no shortage of the worst kind of parents in One Piece. However, the one to take the crown as the worst of the worst is undeniably Vinsmoke Judge. He is the supreme commander of the Germa 66 and the patriarch of the Vinsmoke family. However, he ??isn't just a strong warrior; he is also a bright mind.

He was a former member of the organization of geniuses MADS, and his work focused on Genetic Factors. The despicable thing about him is that he uses his own children as test subjects. Not only did he alter their genetics, but he also made it so that they were incapable of feeling emotions. For him, emotions would only hinder their combat ability. He even told his wife, Vinsmoke?? Sora, that he had no qualms about turning his children into monsters as long as they could win him wars.
