Lester Knight presses play on tape

Another World, one of the most ported video games of all-time, could soon have another format to add to its ever-growing list of platforms. Homebrew programmer Eric Majikeyric has released in-progress footage showing the seminal fantasy adventure running on the humble Commodo?re 64.

The video features the entire intro from the 1991 Amiga classic, scaled down to fit the C64's ultra-humble ?8-bit processor. We then see various moments from the adventure replicated in Commodore form, including Lester Chaykin Knight's arrival in the strange new dime??nsion, his first meeting with "friend," as well as a glimpse at the game's somewhat bleak finale.

The unofficial port has caught the attention of Another World's original creator, Eric Chahi, who took to Twitter to voice how impressed he was with the footage. Majikeyric is expected to continue working on the project, but with an undert?aking this enormous, who knows when the final version will finall??y see the light of day. Regardless, this is very impressive work.

An unofficial sequel, Heart of the Alien, is available on Mega CD.

Lester Chaykin Knight gonna stay trapped a little longer

One of the single most re-released games of all time, probably second only to - I don't know, Dragon's Lair - is Delphine's Amiga classic Another World. Originally scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch today, developer DotEmu have announced that the launch has been delay?ed by a couple of weeks??.

Blowing minds in 1991 and the work of almost entirely one man, Eric Chahi, Another World sees a young scientist propelled into a terrifying other dimension, populated with spitting worms, mouthy plants and still-scary beasts. Nearly dialogue-free and lacking in any HUD or in-game guidance, Another World was something else, man.

But you know all this, right? Because you've likely played it on something, somewhere, at some point. The Nintendo Switch port is now expected to arrive on July 9. In the meantime, Delphine's excellent 1992 title Flashback also saw a Switch re-release last week as Flashback: Collector's Edition, now availabl?e in both digital and physic??al formats.

Mind the slugs

Another World (Out of this World) has found its way to many platforms in the years since its original 1991 release. It's an important game, one I hope manages to reach new audiences every time it's re-released. Next on the list is ?Nintendo Switch, with a launch now set for June 25, 2018.

The Switch version is being handled by Dotemu in collaboration with The Digital Lounge and Another World's creator, Eric Chahi. There isn't a new trailer to go along with t??he release date announcemen?t, but this retrospective video with Chahi from last month is worth a watch if you missed it.

The game's art still holds up so well, as does its evocative storytelling. Fair warning for new players, though: it can be brutal! Anyone who's played Another World will have the progression path f?orever committed to memory, but if it's your first time, expect to die a lot through trial and error.

You buyin' again?

Another World originally released more than 25 years ago, but it has been in the public consciousness a fair amount in recent years. A steady stream of anniversary re-releases and remakes have seen the iconic adventure gam?e adapted for most major platforms. It's about to add one more?.

With the help of Dotemu, creator Eric Chahi is making another Another World remake -- this time for Nintendo Switch. Although it hasn't been explicitly stated, we can probably expect it to contain most of the changes from the 2014 ports on PS4 and Xbox One. The announced features thus far are: the ??ability to toggle between original and high-def visuals, three difficulty modes, and suppo?rt for five languages (English, Spanish, French, Italian, and German).

Although just announced, it won't be long before Another World on Switch is upon us. It's currently set to launch sometime in Spring. It'll come in a standard and collector's edition, although the latter hasn't yet been detailed. There also isn't a price yet, but it's going for $10 on Steam right now; that's probably a good ballpark, but don't be surprised if the inf??amous Switch tax hikes the cost up a bit.

Looks right up my alley

The surreal platformer Another World is making its way to PS4 next week, and I couldn't be more excited. The game's 20 years old, for crying out loud, and yet it's somehow found a spot on a next-gen console so that people can enjoy it during a completely different time in gaming. Whi??le it's been seen on several different consoles, it's exciting to finally see it on a current one that's got the goods to make it look every bit as bizarre as it should.

The new Another World will see 720p resolution, additional checkpoints, and an overall full HD exp??erience. The Sega CD soundtrack is also available as an optional augment, as well as PlayStation's cross buy feature, cross platform trophies, and cross save.

If you've seen the game around but haven't yet had your chance to take a turn with it, it's coming out ???on June 25, just enough time to settle down after E3 with a strange little platformer that hits all the high notes. I'll most likely be joining you.

3DS, PS3, PS4, Vita, Wii U and Xbox One

Another World: 20th Anniversary Edition was released previously for the mobile and Steam platforms, but evidently it will be heading to a ton ??of consoles (and the 3??DS) in the future. According to a listing from the German ratings board, the game will be released on the Wii U, PS3, PS4, Vita, Xbox One, and 3DS platforms.

You'll get the original game, in addition to enhanced visuals, ??more difficulties, and more video extras. This is one of my all-time favorite adventure games, so be sure to check it out if you get the chance -- even if it's just from a Steam sale!

Out of this World

I have very fond memories of Out of this World, though it's been ages since I've played it. The 20th anniversary of this classic action game has rolled around, and to celebrate, Another World -- 20th Anniversary Edition has been released on Steam, as we told you yesterday. 

This remastered version received the full works in a tag team effort from Eric Chahi and developer Dot Emu. Among the improvements expect HD graphics and new sound effects. There are also new difficulty modes to try out. ??And, if you'd like, you can play the game with the original graphics.

Also known as Out of this World

Another World, or Out of This World to everyone in North America, just released its 20th Anniversary Edition on Steam today for Windows and Mac for $9.99. This edition first came out for iOS back in 2011, and now you can play it with your keyboard like God? intended when this game first came out back in 1991. There is also full controller support if you choose to play it that way.

Delphine has always been one of my favorite developers, and I would do horrible things if they could somehow release Future Wars or Flashback on Steam.

One of these days, I'm going to spend an afternoon finally beating Another World. Today, however, is not that day. As promised, the 20th Anniversary edition of the game is now available for Android owners.

Between the optional new graphics and control scheme, remastered audio, multiple difficulty levels, and optimization for the Sony Xperia Play, this sounds like a solid re-release. $4.99 might be a bit pricier than some of you are accustomed to, but it's freakin' Another World!

Funny how even 20 years later,?? this is still the first thing I think about when trying to come up with games that feature red-haired protagonists.

Earlier this year From Dust designer Eric Chahi announced that he would soon be bringing his acclaimed adventure game Another World to Apple's iDevices. If you've been eagerly waiting to get your mitts on the update of the 1991 classic, your wait has almost ended. The iOS version will be launching later this month with a multitude of added features in celebration of the title's 20th anniversary. Another World's iOS relea??se will be receiving remastered visuals, touch controls, achievements, and additional difficulty settings.

If you one that prefers to play with the classic visuals, players can toggle between the HD and original graphics at any time. As far as difficulty goes, anyone that has played the game (or suffered at the hands of touch controls) will surely appreciate the easy mode. And if you like punishing yourself, there's always that "Hardcore" option. Look out for Another World ??;when it ??his the App Store September 22nd for $4.99.
