The Z Fighters are ready for Battle!

Bandai Namco released the ?latest update of Dragon Ball FighterZ earlier this week. Version 1.38 sees major changes to both character bala?nce and universal system mechanics.

The new balance patch is DBFZ's first in over a year and comes nearly seven months after the game rec??eived a long-awaited rollback netcode update on February 28. The patch was handled by Bandai Namco and the developer Arc System Works in a team effort.

Version 1.38 focuse?s on increasing player options and game?? speed by buffing character damage and pressure sequences, and decreasing the effectiveness of over-centralizing mechanics. Other changes include buffs to anti-air attacks, invincible super moves, and the speed of normal attacks.

Overview of Changes

Z Assist (C Type)

C Type ass??ists received a universal nerf by having their cooldown time increased. The move retains its ability to generate huge advantages and mixup opportunities but will no longer be the highly ab?usable tactic it has been in previous patches.

Sparking Blast

Players can now Super Dash or perform Special Moves out of any ?Special Move while Sparking B?last's effect is active. This change boosts the overall power level of all characters and allows players to have greatly increased freedom of expression when attacking or juggling their opponent.

Anti Air Attacks

Certain invincible moves that could only be stopped with crouching heavy attacks now have increased vulnerability to anti-air attacks, incr??easing player options for dealing with approaching oppo??nents.

Super Moves

The invincibility of Super Moves for each character starts fa??ster, giving them increased util?ity.

Special Moves

Light, medium, and heavy variations of Special Moves now count as separate attacks towards ?the Z combo limit. This change gives players enhanced freedom of expression in th?eir combo routes.

Normal Moves

Many normal attacks are now faster and remain active for a longer period of time. Some characters received new attack extensions or the ability to extend attacks even?? after missing the opponent.

Switch owners may ask the question, "Heaven or Hell?" soon as a PAX West banner has reportedly leaked a Guilty Gear Strive port ea??rly. The event be??gins this weekend, but the banner was put up earlier than publisher Arc System Works likely wanted.

Guilty Gear Strive is likely heading to Switch

In an X post by SoySauceAsian_ that's since been taken down, an image of a Guilty Gear Strive banner advertising a Switch version was published to the internet. It has since been circulating around Reddit and other outlets. The banner says "Nint?endo Switch? Version" in bold letters, asking PAX West attendees to pre-order the game.

You would think the developer would let attendees check out the game. Arc System Works, however, doesn't have a booth at the event, according to the exhibitor list on PAX's website. Perhaps Nintendo could be hosting the game as Guilty Gear Strive is a popular title within the fighting game community. Come to think of it, it's strange that Guilty Gear Strive wasn't revealed during the latest Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase.

An official Guilty Gear X page has confirmed over 3 million copies have been sold since the game's launch in June 2021. With this success, the series is also getting an anime adaptation. It makes sense if Arc System Works wants to expand the game's reach to the Nintendo Switch audience. The developer has also previously launched Dragon Ball FighterZ and DNF Duel on the system.

Our 8.5/10 review called Guilty Gear Strive "a good, solid, very online-capable fighting game with?? pl??enty of big swords, charging dolphins, and doctors with questionable credentials to go around." That sounds like a recipe for a great anime fighter.

Arc System Works has revealed that R-Force Entertainment is working on a sequel to 2021’s River City Saga: Three Kingdoms. Titled River City Saga: Three Kingdoms Next, it’s coming? to PC, Switch,?? and PS4 on November 7.

As the name implies, River City Saga: Three Kingdoms takes the beefy-armed beat-’em-up series to China’s “Three Kingdomsâ€?period. Kunio and his pals stand in for historical figures such as Guan Yu and Sun Quan and fight in a number of historical events. It’s similar in concept to 1991’s Downtown Special: Kunio-kun no Jidaigeki da yo Zenin ShÅ«gÅ! Just in a di??fferent ti?me period. And also newer, so things are a bit more comic and hectic.

Three Kingdoms Next continues from the first game, takin?g the crew from the events of its climax to the Battle of Wuzhang Plains. It features a number of new characters and, perhaps more notably, a motorcycle. It’s perhaps the most badass way to travel historical China.

I consider myself a huge fan of the River City/Kunio-Kun/Downtown/Nekketsu series, but I haven’t kept up with it as much recently. Mostly, I think I’m more interested in Kunio-Kun and his friends when they’re playing sports. They haven’t done much of that recently, and the last time I really got into a River City title was the 2015 PC port of River City Super Sport Challenge.

If you haven’t already, you should definitely play Double? Dragon & Kunio-kun??: Retro Brawler Bundle on Switch. It’s one of the best compilations o?f retro games ever put together, going as far as localizing 11 previously Japan-onl??y Famicom games of the series.

Weekly Famitsu magazine recently dropped the reveal for Double Dragon Revive, a 3D take on the classic beat 'em up series. It arrives by way of developer Yuke's, which worked on Rumble Roses, as well as a bunch of WWE games up to 2018's WWE 2K19, among other titles. Now an official website and Steam page are live for the brawler, which is flexing with all its might for a 2025 launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One?, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

If your first thoughts when a new Double Dragon game is announced go straight to Abobo, don't worry; he's here, even if his head isn't roughly the same size as his torso anymore. Abobo isn't the only musclebound monstrosity gunning for the Lee brothers. Revive promises that good ol' Bimmy and Jimmy will get to face off against "a variety of powerful foes from their past." From the looks of it, the latest ??entry has retaine?d a sense of humor, so we'll see how many of those classic enemies end up making a revamped appearance.

Double Dragon Revive is looking to bring new players into the mix with simple controls and a more modern balance, while also b?eing "more than a simple butt??on-masher." Hey, just try and stop me from mashing buttons!

The announcement mentions that the staff involved have experience working on Arc System Works fighting games, so maybe the combat will go a bit deeper than some other entries. All I need to know is that I can pick up weapons and kick people into ref??rigerators and dumpsters. More often than not, it's the simple things that keep us going.

Between the likes of Castlevania, Arcane, and upcoming projects like the Among Us cartoon, we really are living in a golden age of animated TV shows based on video games. And now we can add fighting game Guilty Gear Strive to the list as developer Arc System Works has announced its own anime series titled Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers.

Details are incredibly slim, with the teaser website only showing new artwork of series protagonist Sol Badguy and Sin Kiske, while a mysterious new character looms over them in the background. What we do know is that Guilty Gear creator and character designer Daisuke Ishiwatari is involved, and the show is being made at Sanzigen, a studio that specialises in 3D animation. Sanzigen was also responsible for thi??s incredible looking one-year anniversary short for Guilty Gear Strive, so Dual Rulers is certainly in safe hands. Strive's animation remains one of ??its best qualities and the thought of an entire TV show with the same? level of visual fidelity is very exciting.

Fortunately, we won't have to wait much longer to learn more. Arc System Works will have a panel at this year's Anime Expo, and has promised to share further details about Dual Rulers on July 4. Ideally, this will include a trailer or at least a plot synopsis. Since Guilty Gear Strive's story mode is literally over four hours of non-stop cutscenes, it's probably safe to assume Dual Rulers is??n't an adaptation and will instead tell an original story.

I'm honestly a bit surprised Guilty Gear has never seen an anime adaptation or even an OVA in its 26-year history. There have been spin-off manga, novels, audio dramas, and comics, so a full anime series was frankly overdue. I'm also curious if Dual Rulers will make a good jumping on point for newcomers who are unfamiliar with Guilty Gear's lore or if it'll be something that only establi??shed fans will be able to understand and enjoy.

Whatever the case, Guilty Gear fans have plenty to look forward to in the near future besides the anime. Guilty Gear Strive recently wrapped up its third season pass of DLC with the inclusion of Slayer, but a season f??our is already confirmed to be in the works too. So, fans should expect a few more playable cha?racters either later this year or in 2025.

Those looking for a smoother Dragon Ball FighterZ online experience can soon try it out with Rollback Netcode. Bandai Namco has locked in a Public Beta Test for the feature from?? November 30 through December 10.

The announcement came via the official Dragon Ball Games Twitter and Bandai Namco Entertainment producer Tomoko Hi?roki. Just in time for the lead up t??o the Power Tournament finals in January, everyone is invited to take part in the beta on Steam. You can see the full message in the announcement video below.

For those interested in participating, the Steam announcement page has all the details. The test will be open to everyone who bought the Steam version of Dragon Ball FighterZ. All you have to do is go to the game in your library, open the Properties window, and select public-beta-test from the Betas tab. There are a? few troubleshooting notes for anyone who has an issue finding the option. If you'd rather go back to the normal version during the test p??eriod, you'll be able to switch by selecting 'None' in the Betas tab. 

Dragon Ball FighterZ first launched for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC? in January 2018, followed by a release on Nintendo Switch that September. At the time of this writing, the Public Beta Test for Rollback Netcode is just going to be available for the ?Steam version. For what it's worth, all versions of the full game are heavily discounted on the platform right now. Any further updates during the test period will be made through the official Bandai Namco Esports Twitter account.

Branching brawlers

Choices made in the story will ultimately impact how River City: Rival Showdown plays out. Whatever ending you may get, completing Story Mode will unlock River City: Yamada's Side. This mode puts players in control of Dark Lord Yamada, revealing how he got his powers and ventured down the path of evil. There's also the brand new Riki's Story, which puts the spotlight on Kunio's rival. It's described as a "savory River City side story worth seeing," and if that ain't a selling point I don't know what is. Grab your barrels, because Arc System Works pumped out a new trailer for Double Dragon Collection. The six-pack of classic beat 'em ups is coming to Asia as a physical release on Switch, and you can see a flurry of fists in the overview trailer.

While the physical release is Asia-only, Arc System Works will bring two of the "long awaited missing entries" to consoles and PC digitally. Those titles were previously announced as new ports of 1992's Super Double Dragon and 2003's Double Dragon Advance. They'll be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. 

Brawl through time

If there was ever a totally idiosyncratic trip through the history of beat 'em ups, this is it. 1987's Double Dragon is a seminal entry in the genre. The style developer Technos inserted in is all its own, even with the Kunio-kun legacy behind it. Double Dragon II: The Revenge came in hot the following year and built on what the first established nicely. For those who wanted a beefier challenge, Double Dragon III: The Sacred Stones threw its hat in the ring in 1991. Not to be confused with Double Dragon 3: The Rosetta Stone, which had players insert actual money to buy from the item shops in its initial arcade release. Who said? microtransactions were a who?lly modern concern?

Double Dragon IV and the aforementioned Super Double Dragon and Double Dragon Advance round out the new trailer. The latter two will be sold separately, but if you want all six together it should be fairly easy to import the set, which has full English support. 

The Double Dragon series is very much still active. Developer Secret Base recently released Double Dragon: Rise of the Dragons to mixed results. That's kind of the name of the game for the series as a whole. There are ups and downs, and you'll experience plenty of them at once in the Double Dragon Collection. The six-in-one set hits Nintendo Switch on November 9, 2023.

Developer French-Bread has officially announced its next entry in the Under Night series. French-Bread and Arc System Works will launch Under Night In-Birth II Sys:Celes in 202?4 for PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.

Set as the sequel to the first Under Night In-Birth, UNIB II will feature the "final chapter" of the Hollow Night storyline that started over a decade ago with the original release. Under Night mixes light novel sto??ry with fighting game action.

As far as fighting games go, Under Night is squarely in the anime fighter subgenre and is a pretty enjoyable one, too. For Under Night In-Birth II, there will be an expanded move list, new character abilities, and updates to the battle system. There's also an EXS button, which sound?s like a beginner-friendly control scheme similar?? to auto-combos.

For fighting game players, the big news is that yes, Under Night In-Birth II will have rollback netcode. It's always nice to have, as it lets players meet up and fight online with a solid con??nection. It's quickly becoming th??e gold standard, but it's nice to see French-Bread and Arc System Works emphasize its inclusion.

Into the Under Night

Those at Evo 2023 this weekend will get to play some Under Night In-Birth II, as Arc System Works' booth is hosting gameplay demos. It's not the only brand-new fighting game in town, either. Mortal Kombat 1, Tekken 8 and Riot Games' Project L are all in Las?? Vegas this weekend too. That's not even counting all the currently released fig??hting games at Evo, hosting tournaments.

It's going to be an exciting weekend for fighting game aficionados, for sure. I'm also pretty happy to see Under Night get a sequel like this. It's a fighter I frequently en??joy going back to, and I'm interested in ?seeing what French-Bread's got in the oven.

Arc System Works has announced that they are porting 1992’s Super Double Dragon and 2003’s Double Dragon Advance to modern platforms. In addition to that, there will also be a physical release of the two titles combined with the NES Double Dragon 1-3 as well as the modern Double Dragon IV. Unfortunately, the physic??al collection is Asia ?only.

Super Double Dragon is the fourth-ish title in the series. It was also the last one to be worked on by the series' original developer, Technos. Although, series director Yoshihisa Kishimoto did return for 2017’s Double Dragon IV. Which is funny to me because he is credited with working on Super Double Dragon. So Double Dragon IV isn’t really the fourth ?official ti?tle in the series? Agh, my head hurts.

Anyway, it received a rather lukewarm reception in its initial 1992 release. This is reportedly due to a lot of the game being rushed. It’s not bad, but the belt-scrolling brawler genre was starting to get pretty glutted at the point following the success of 1989’s Final Fight.

Super Bimmy & Jimmy Advance

Meanwhile, Double Dragon Advance is something of a remake of the original game. It was tweaked in many ways to include elements that were added to the series over time. It was originally conceived to just be this one big Double Dragon ?blow-out, where characters and elements from all across the property were crushed in one game, but Atlus would only pony up for the smallest available Game Boy Advance ROM size, which was 32 MB. Director Muneki Ebinuma says that he cut out over half the planned game to fit it into this limited space.

The result was an??other title that received a lukewarm reception. Once again, it isn’t bad, it just isn’t gre?at.

However, I’m happy to see the titles get modern ports. It'd be awesome if Arc System Works brought back staff to finish the games, but that’s easier said than done. If you’re worried about not getting the physical version, you can import it from Asia, as all the titles will be available in English. Otherwise, you can complete the set with the Double Dragon & Kunio-kun: Retro Brawler Bundle as well as plain ‘ol Double Dragon IV.

Double Dragon Advance and Super Double Dragon will a?rrive on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC on November 9. They will be sold separately.

Arc System Works has announced that the 2016 3DS title, River City: Rival Showdown. is coming to PC, Sw??itch, and PlayStation platforms.

River City: Rival Showdown was the second Kunio-Kun/Downtown/Nekketsu/River City title to be released on the 3DS, following River City: Tokyo Rumble in 2013. Both were similar titles that take the Kunio-Kun/Downtown/Nekketsu/River City beat-’em-up formula started in 1986’s Nekketsu KÅha Kunio-kun/Renegade and cemented in 1989’s Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari/River City Ransom. Chubby arm??s, pained expressions, and lots of smacking take center stage in th??ese games.

The new port of River City: Rival Showdown will include all the features of the 3DS version but will also include a brand new prequel story called Cold-Blooded Hardcore Yamada-kun. Beyond that, there will also be spiffi??er graphics and some quality-of-life improvements.

I’d call myself a huge fan of the Kunio-Kun/Downtown/Nekketsu/River City games, but I’ve had trouble getting myself into the more modern titles. I own River City: Rival Showdown on 3DS. I just couldn’t tell yo??u why I haven’t played more than a few minutes of it.

Oh, wait, yes, ?I can. It w??as a horrible time in my life. I wish I hadn’t remembered that.

In any case, I’ll hopefully be giving this one another chance. If you haven’t already, you should definitely check out Double Dragon & Kunio-kun: Retro Brawler Bundle. It has all the Famicom games in the Kunio-Kun/Downtown/Nekketsu/River City series, but they’ve gone the extra mil?e and localized all the ones that were previously Japan-only. Seriously, an impressive effort.

Spellbound

While Guilty Gear has always been known for its complex and powerful characters, especially when compared to many other fighting games, somebody at Arc System Works may actually be taking this piss with the release of "That Man" Asuka R#, whose new Starter Guide reveals an arcane nightmare.

?The progenitor of peace is certainly not living up to his reputation, stepping into the ring armed with an ancient tome of spells that provide myriad aggressive and defensive abilities, as well as keeping the opponent locked down in what is borderline abject terror, awaiting the next screen-filling mythic melee.

Where do you even fucking start?

Mana forms the backbone of most of Asuka R#'s attacks, and provides fuel for a range of spells that can be "bookmarked" and then released. In addition, Mana provides defense for Asuka R#'s health, and he suffers increased damage without it??. Mana can be restored by activating certain attacks, or by activating a dedicated Restore Mana special.

In addition, Mana is expelled in various forms of "Bookmarked" attacks �essentially a massive variety special spells which are stored to be launched at a later date. Bookmarked spells can be canceled into one another, or have their individual propert??ies changed via the direction/button pressed in execution.

We've not even scratched the surface... Asuka various spells are grouped into "Test Cases", which can be alternated during battle to provide Asuka with a new range of spells. Think of it as switching out a character's entire special set �say via a stance �except that there are numerous stances, and the stances themselves all have their own individual cancellation properties, as well as EX variants, and the opportunity to apply ?randomized boosts. And they all need to be managed via a depleting source.

So, in a summary that really isn't a summary, Asuka R# is equipped with multiple, entirely different movesets, all of which can be switched out at a whim, and all containing their own unique specials, which can then be Bookmarked for quick activation/cancellation purposes. Additionally, all of the Bookmarked Spells within each Test Case can be ??boosted in various forms, to reduce Mana cost, increase the number of hits, or automatically bookmark new spells once activated or any other manner of mechanics.

In addition to the Mana mechanic. Asuka is also able to place a magical staff onscreen, which causes a vacuum effect on all of his projectiles (including Supers) to keep them floating in the player's orbit. Oh, and here?'s a shocker: He can also teleport. Because of course he can. Ultimately??, Asuka R# has been designed as one of the most complicated characters in fighting game history �a true knowledge check for both his player and the opponent. In clumsy hands, he will be a mess of random and frustrating projectiles. In good hands, he might simply be unstoppable.

Asuka R# is available to purchase now in Guilty Gear Strive as part of the Season 2 pass. Arc System Works has finally lifted the lid on the final Season 2 DLC character headed to the gorgeous scrapper Guilty Gear Strive �And, of no surprise to anybody whatsoever, next week will see the coming of the powerful central figure in the current GG timeline, Asuka R#, more com??monly known as "That Man".

The powerful warrior-sorcerer, whose aim to bring peace and pleasance to Earth led to globe-shattering events of biblical proportions, will bring his ethereal skills to the battlefield on May 25. A new trailer showcases what appears to be one of the most complex and technical fighters in franchise history, (and with GG, that's really saying something), who is armed with over 20 spells with which to confuse their opponent, control space, defend against attack and,? of course, kick a lotta ass.

In addition to Asuka R#'s arrival, Guilty Gear Strive Season Pass owners will also receive the new stag??e Tir Na N0g, as well as two special 25th-anniversary color packs, bringing?? additional palettes that can be applied to the entire roster of characters. These include a pink-and-white scheme, a neon green-and-white scheme, and finally an orange-and-white scheme. The pink-and-white look will be available to download to all players free of charge.

Finally, Arc System Works confirmed that a third season of content for Guilty Gear Strive is in the works, bringing even more characters, stages, and colors to the hit release. Players can also expect the arrival of the long-long-long awaited update that hopes to bring myriad fixes to the title's frustrating?? lobby and online issues.

Arc System Works has released a rough rollout plan for a series of long-time-coming fixes for its flagship fighter, Guilty Gear Strive �/em> Thes??e fixes are chiefly directed toward to problems that players have been facing online, and are particularly aimed at reducing the grief caused by lobby-breaking trolls.

The statement, written by GG Strive producer Ken Miyauchi, lists a number of planned fixes aiming to curtail the tidal wave of broken matchmaking, lag spiking, and hostile griefing which has seen playing invading lobbies uninvited and hacking their games, causing freezes and sending unsolicited messages. These and other issues have been bothering the GG community for an exceptionally long time?, leaving the ??die-hard community pretty miserable while they wait for repairs.

According to the statement, the expected rollout for these fixes is May 25, which has led some players to believe that this will probably be close to the release date of the next wave of DLC characters. After all, folks aren't gonna buy DLC for a bust game. Fixes for abnormal ping numbers, room entry crashes, and a block on uninvited players entering lobbies. The patch is said to be currently in its testing and licensing phase, but hopefully will be rolled out on all platforms before the month is out. It's been a long wait for the GG faithful, so here's hoping for a happier summer.

Guilty Gear Strive is available now on PlayStation, PC, and Xbox platforms. The next DLC character, believed t??o be Asuka ??R. Kreuz (That Man) is expected to arrive sometime this month.

Online coding requires a little more tweaking

CyGames has announced that it has had to, unfortunately, postpone its upcoming beta for Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising �Originally scheduled for PlaySt?ation platforms in May, the beta will now take place at a later, currently unspecified date.

"The game is currently experiencing stability issues during online play," wrote creative director Tetsuya Fukuhara in a s?hort statement on Twitter. "While we realize that some bumpiness is to be expected during beta testing, we would still like to put our best foot forward and ensure we deli??ver as enjoyable an experience as possible.?"

"In order to test our recent implementation of rollback netcode, we will be launching a closed pre-access beta, followed shortly by an open beta. For those who would like to participate in the pre-access beta, registration will open when we announce t??he ?updated schedule. Thank you for your patience."

Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, which was first announced during the Granblue Fantasy Fes in January this year, is a fully updated edition of the 2020 anime fighter, produced by veteran studio Arc System Works. The new edition will feature additional characters �including the buxom shepherd Anila �a??s well as new mechanics? and stages, a story expansion, and a full rebalancing of all characters.

While not the most popular fighter on the block, GBF:VS is a great scrapper, and this?? new edition will help extend its lifespan and, hopefully, bring new fans into the fold.

Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising is scheduled to la??unch on PlayStation and PC later in 2023.

Tomorrow will see the return of one of the fighting game genre's strangest and most esoteric characters, as the mysterious, and surprisingly tragic, Bedman? makes their grand return to the roster of Guilty Gear Strive �And to get fans into their PJs and prepped for slumberland, publisher Arc System Works has released a new Starter Guide, reintroducing fans to this bizarre combatant.

The original Bedman seemingly perished at the climax of Guilty Gear Xrd �Revelator, but not before having the foresight to ensure that their personality had been programmed into the bed itself, essentially allowing the sickly Gear to live on after death. And so, both guided by and protective of his loving sister Delilah, Bedman? returns to the GG ring. The bed itself is looking a little worse for wear, but is no less the formidable? opponent, equipped with an array of attacks and weaponry capable of ensuring the siblings' existence �At least in some form or other...

It has to be said that Bedman? is looking to be a particularly complex member of the GG Strive roster, requiring masterful use of both timing and positioning, as well as full understanding of their non-standard hit/hurtbox �even by Guilty Gear standards. Bedman's set play is based around launching specials, either at range or in melee, and then effectively spacing out a range of automatic follow-up attac?ks, which can themselves be delayed by the player or cancelled entirely by the opponent.

Bedman's projectile, Call 4BA, dash attack, Call 4B3, and brutal knockdown attack, Call 4B9, are among the attacks that put Bedman in Error 6E State, resulting in one of several follow-up attacks a second or two later. The masterful Bedman? player wil?l not only learn to effectively use these attacks to close distance and overwhelm their opponent, but will also need to effectively learn how best to manage the follow-up attacks, and the timing between their activation and detonation, to keep the opponent locked down and anxious to counter.

This is not to speak of Call 13C, a Tension-based move that powers up Bedman's range of attacks and can cause an auto Area Shift in the corner. Bedman? looks to most assuredly be an expert tier character, and one that essentially "directs" the fight, once in the hands of a player who truly understands the timing of their skills. It should also be noted that the Bedman? design is excellent, and the addition of the nervy-but-loving Delilah is another one of those touches that truly sets GG apart from its contemporaries.

Bedman? is available to purchase tomorrow, April 6, in Guilty Gear Strive as part of the Season 2 pass. Why, Why, Why, Delilah?

During this weekend's ARC World Tour festivities, developer Arc System Works took the time to reveal the next character headed to its gorgeous flagship fighter Guilty Gear Strive, and you best put on your PJs ??and say your prayers, as we're witnessing the return of former series antagonist, Bedman?

While the original Bedman met his end at the climax of previous release Guilty Gear Xrd - Revelator, the canny science lad has preprogrammed his psyche as an A.I. within the mechanized bed itself. And thus, piloted by his loving sister Delilah, Bedman is able to return to the ring under the amusing Pseudonym of Bedman? �which you should always pronounce in the f?orm of a question for maximum fun effect.

The bed itself has clearly seen better years, weathered with cracks and battle damage, but young Delilah seems to be maturing into a young woman, although one with the weight of the world, literally, on her back. It seems, fro?m this short trailer, that Bedman? will operate independently of its sibling, who nervously follows it into battle, confused and unsure of her or her "brother's" destiny. It makes for an interesting character design, and one that, much like previous Bed...uhhh...Men, will be a confusing opponent with a somewhat vague hit/hurtbox.

I really like the design of both the Bed and Delilah herself however, I'm happy to see the Goths well-represented in the GG universe. Bedman? will join the battle on April 6, as the third character for Season Pass 2 �following Bridget and Sin Kiske. A fourth and final character will arrive in May. Guilty Gear Strive is available now on PlayStation, PC, and Xbox.

Join the Flock

Arc System Works, in association with publisher CyGames, has released the first gameplay trailer for the adorable Anila, the first new character announced for anime scrapper Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising. Anila was first revealed in a teaser last week, bu??t now we can finally see the sexy shepherd in action.

Anila, who is classed as "Queen of the Sheep and ruler of the South-Southwest" is an inc??redibly fun-looking character, who will step forth into battle armed with her trusty polearm and supported by a huge flock of obedient wool-bearers.

Anila herself sports a pair of ram horns, as well as a thick woolen gown and a luscious lock of blonde hair. She's also pretty sleepy, which comes with the territory. I legitimately think that she's one of the most fun designs to grace fighting games in some time. And I'm surprised that it's taken this long for a shepherd gimmick to make?? its appearance in the typically wacky genre.

As you can see from her trailer, Anila is something of an all-round character, afforded?? decent range thanks to her polearm, (check out that half-screen sweep!), some smothering chains, and even some basic zoning capabilities... thanks to her fuzzy friends. Anila can send out her flock as ground-based projectiles, and even ride them into battle in order to close the distance at great speed. Anila's amusing super sees the opponent stampeded in a flurry of wool and hooves. You don't need to count sheep when they'll gladly send you into the land of slumber the hard way.

While Anila's release date has been somewhat confusing, it seems clear that she is destined to make her debut in Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, the updated edition of the original 2020 fighter, complete with new modes and mechanics, as well as a fresh rebalance for its attractive and engaging roster. While the details are still strangely sketchy, one would assume that Anila will be available as paid DLC for the vanilla edition of Versus, while Rising will be made available complete with several additional fighters. CyGames will reveal the next new character at EVO 2023, which is sche?duled for August of this year.

All-out anime warfare returns

[Update: Arc System Works has informed Destructoid that it has postponed the BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle beta due to issues with the beta build. A new date will be announced once these problems are taken care of. Stay tuned to the official Twitter account for more details.]

Arc System Works has announced that it will be holding an open beta test for its upcoming Xbox and PC (Microsoft Store) ports of crossover anime scrapper BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle. Players on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC can check out the fighter's dynamic action from March 2 through March 5.

The beta test will offer up all of the modes from the 2018 release, from Training and Online Vs, to Story and Survival modes, and even the gallery and replay features. In addition, the entire roster of characters will be unlocked and available, for a staggering 53 playable heroes and villains, pulled from a variety of franchises including Persona, RWBY, Under Night In-Birth, Senran Kagura, and, of course, BlazBlue itself.

All Xbox and PC owners are eligible to take part, and you do not need and Xbox Live Gold account. Arc System Works will use the playtime in order to test the connectivity of the servers, ahead of the game's official launch at some point in the coming months. While the world of BBCTB has been somewhat subdued recently, it remains a great title, packed out with fantastic and unique characters. Baaaaaaad to the Bone

Publisher CyGames and developer Arc System Works have released several updates pertaining to Granblue Fantasy: Versus Rising, the expanded edition of the studios' gorgeous anime fighter, initially launched on PlayStation and PC back in the winter of 2020.

Perhaps first and foremost, we received a super cute teaser trailer for a brand-new DLC character, Anila. The... e??rm... "bu??xom" lass is an all-round fighter, who will combine rushdown and zoning-based fighting methods �afforded vast reach thanks to her trusty polearm while being aided and abetted by her flock of Divine Sheep. Quite honestly, I think this a wonderful idea for a fighting game character. You think you've seen everything, and then ArcSys is just like "I dunno... Magic Sexy Shepherd?"

Granblue Fantasy: Versus Rising will feature a slew of new mechanics in order to refresh the cult fighter's gameplay. While the core gameplay will remain the same, two all-new mechanics are hoping to bring new dynamism and excitement to the fan?tasy fights. New "Dash Attacks" will allow players to close the gap with a quick poke, a sneaky ?low strike, or a combo-starting heavy, allowing for opponent openings in the blink of an eye.

The second mechanic,? "Triple Attack", is essentially an ?auto-combo that can transition to a low or an overhead mixup on the third hit. The opponent will be required to recognize the animation, or simply predict correctly, in order to defend against the fast combo. If they react correctly, however, there is a reversal opportunity, so be sure not to become too readable.

Finally, CyGames announced that it will hold a special open beta tournament over the course of EVO 2023, giving the public the opportunity to check out Granblue Fantasy: Versus Rising ahead of its launch, complete with the new mechanics and balance changes. ?More details will be announced closer to the beta's launch, but we can assume that i??t will take place in early August, alongside EVO 2023 itself.

Trendy Japanese label SuperGroupies has teamed up with publisher Arc System Works to release a new line of apparel based on slick 'n' sexy fighter Guilty Gear Strive. The Guilty Gear gear is available to pre-order now ahead of its eve?ntual release in the summer and fall seasons.

Regarding apparel, SuperGroupies has unveiled a slick model jacket, based on GG Strive poster boy Sol Badguy. The slim-fitting jacket (available in sizes M - XXL) is outfitted in black and red and is subtly embroidered with Sol's insignia. The front pocket features the phrase "Fight Fire with Fire" and the jacket is labeled as if designed by "RIOT" �the top fashion label within the Guilty Gear universe. The Sol Badguy Model Jacket re?tails for $220 USD and is expected to ship in late-July.

In addition to the jacket, a selection of four backpacks and tote bags are also available to pre-order, based on characters Sol Badguy, Ky Kiske, Ramlethal Valentine, and May. Rounding out the collection is a fine collection of wristwatches, once again representing Sol Badguy, Ky Kiske, Ramlethal Valentine, and May. Each?? watch face features a distinct design based on the respective character �so a regal look for Ky, a nautical theme for May, and so on. Each watch features three sub-dials, a real leather strap, as well as mottos and insignias that represent the chosen character. Good Smile Company has some more Guilty Gear on the way, and this time, it's all about Bridget. A new plush of Bridget, the yo-yo wielding fighter who made her re-entrance in Guilty Gear Strive not too long ago, is on the way.

The Bridget plush specifically highlights her Guilty Gear Strive appearance, down to blue hood and handcuff belt. The plush will go on sale first in Japan, but the Good Smile U.S. shop has pre-orders open. The plush will run $40.99 and is expected to star??t rolling out for Canada and the U.S. i?n August 2023.

The Bridget plush itself is 7.87 inches in ??height, made of polyester, and is super rad. So if you want to spotlight your main or just have a cute plush of a character you dig, it seems like a solid way to?? check that box.

Bridget has been in the Guilty Gear series for quite a while, but made her return to the modern roster last year in Guilty Gear Strive . A major part of her storyline was coming to terms with her upbringing and identity, eventually affirming her o?wn sense of self. ?And somehow, Goldlewis Dickinson plays a role in it.

It's a heartwarming story, and that popularity ties in well with her yo-yo-flinging arsenal of moves and Strive's absolutely incredible style. So whether you're a new Bridget main or a longtime fan, now you've got a pretty decent merch option to clip onto your b?ag befor?e the next Evo rolls around.

This weekend is the annual Granblue Fantasy Fes event in Japan, and as usual, we’re getting some big announcements from the world of Granblue. Specifically, Granblue Fantasy: Versus is getting an expansion that’s launching worldwide this year. Granblue Fantasy: Versus Rising will feature new stages, new characters, and a new story for players to experience. As you can see in the Versus Rising trailer below, it’s conf??irmed the game will have rollback net c??ode and crossplay between PS4/PS5 and PC via Steam.

Skimming through the game's website, it's confirmed that all 24 characters from the original game will return for this semi-sequel. Additionally, anybody who missed out on Versus will be able to experience an abridged version of that game's celebrated story mode. If you play a lot of Versus online, know that the online lobby will be completely revamped for Versus Rising and will include the all-new "Grand Bruis?e Legends" mini-g??ame mode.

I guess calling it "Granblue Fall Guys" would have been a little too on the nose. Either way, all of that looks great, and it's nice to know that Street Fighter 6 will have some competition this year. Expect Cygames and Arc System Works to reveal more details and new features as we get closer to its launch date. Granblue Fantasy: Versus Rising will release worldwide this year for PS4, PS5, and PC via Steam. And if you're still playing the original Versus, know that the final update for that game will release on January 24.

Arc System Works has announced that it will be holding a new beta for its dazzling fighter Guilty Gear Strive in February �Not only will this weekend trial be used to test the title's upcoming cross-platform functionality, but it will also give Xbox owners their first taste of GG Strive's wild, colorful fighting action.

The beta, which takes place between Friday, February 3 and Mond??ay, February 6, will take p??lace on PlayStation, PC, and both Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S platforms. The beta will feature all 22 characters, including DLC warriors, and a variety of modes including Tutorial, Survival, Mission Mode, Combo Maker, Gallery Vs. COM, and Vs. Online. That's a heck of a lot of free content.

Best of all, the trial is open to all players on all platforms, regardless of whether they have purchased Guilty Gear Strive or otherwise. So, if you've been on the fence or wondering what all the fuss is about, then the be?ta weekend will absolutely provide you with your best opportunity to jump into battle with a massive range of characters and modes. Elphelt/Jam fans are presumably stoked

Wonderful news for those players still decking it out in the dazzling, air-dashing world of Guilty Gear Xrd �Developer Arc System Works has announced that the long-awaited rollback netcode update is now ready to rock, and will be patched into the PC (Steam) edition of Guilty Gear Xrd: Rev 2 on January 20.

The new update will apply the much-vaunted rollback netcode technology to the anime fighter, in hopes of bringing the silkiest, smoothiest connections for global online play. Arc System Works previously tested the new update in a beta held in October 2022, with the update clearly ready to rock. For those players who decided to stick with GGXRD �rather than move on to 2021 release Guilty Gear Strive �this will allow you to enjoy the fantastic, ??top-tier scrapper with a wider community of players.

As an added bonus, players who are playing GG Strive might not have to listen to so many X??rd-heads telling them to st?op enjoying themselves. Everyone's a winner, essentially.

Guilty Gear Xrd: Rev 2 is available now on PS4, PC, and Xbox One. Guilty Gear Strive is also ?available on PlayStation and PC platforms, with an Xbox? port currently scheduled to launch this spring.

Damn, it looks like the era of BRIDGET is set to continue �Not only has the Guilty Gear star made her GG Strive debut, appeared in some fun fan projects, AND received her own, real-life Bullet Yo-Yo, but merch maker Spiritale has now revealed a prototype wicked-looking? figurine, currently in production.

The prototype captures Brisket in all of her g?lory, posed exactly as she is in her Guilty Gear Strive splash art. Rocking her big ol' shoes �Bullet Yo-Yo in one hand and haunted companion Roger in the either, our girl looks set and ready to embark upon her next Bridgetquest. The fixed-pose figurine looks very similar in quality and design to Kotobukiya's "Bishoujo" range, though Bridget is also sporting a nicely detailed base as she comes kick-kicking her way into the next battle.

Unfortunately, Spiratale has not revealed a price nor a release window for the Bridget figurine. For whatev?er it's worth, Spiratale's typical character figurines tend to stand at a 1/7 scale and usually run around the $200-$300 dollar mark. So the more hardcore fans among you might have to start saving up the pennies. To be clear, this price is pure speculation on my part, merely based on th??e company's previous releases. We'll be sure to give you a heads-up when Bridget is ready for pre-order.

Well, that escalated...

Do you know who has tons of fans? Me? Well, you're very kind but no, I'm kinda lonely... Erm... Anyway, the answer I was looking for was Guilty Gear yo-yo spinner, Bridget, as demonstrated by the huge amount of fan art, cosplay, and other prjects dedicated to the young lassie online. Case in point: This wonderful fan animation, produced by the super-ta?lented artist/animator Liz Caingcoy.

The 45-second short sees our gal making the most of a bright and sunny afternoon, taking to the streets with her yo-yo and plush companion, Roger, in tow. It's a pretty delightful a?ffair, and who could possibly expect things to get surprisingly... out of hand. The animation is masterfully created out of textured wireforms, which were designed and built within the software package Autodesk Maya. This gives the short its curious and highly recognizable "'90s PlayStation Cutscene" vibe.

If you take a look at some of Caingcoy's tweets, you can see the Bridget model in its raw form, which spotlights the authentic textures applied to  Bridget in order to perfectly replicate her Guilty Gear Strive style. Update 1.24 brings balance tweaks and bug stomps

Developer Arc System Works has released a new update for its gorgeous anime fighter Guilty Gear Strive, bringing with it balance tweaks,?? bug fixes and, most notable of all, crossplay support between?? console and PC editions of the game.

Players on PS4, PS5, and PC can now all step into the ring against one another, as well as converge in lobbies, spectate each other's matches and replays, view player profiles, and even check out the delightfully dioramic "Digital Figure" creations of their brethren. Additionally, PlayStation and PC players can also share the e?xtremely useful "Combo Maker" mode with each other, helping all players to grow their pugilistic potential on all platforms.

The meat-and-potatoes of the update �at least for competitive players �lies in a litany of balances tweaks made to Strive's cast of characters, as well as smaller adjustments to mechanics such as the Tension Gauge, proximity striking, and overall damage scaling. It seems that the rebalance as a whole has been more about "everybody coming up" rather than higher-tier characters "going down". You can check out the changes to your favorite gear over on the official blog.

On a technical front, Update 1.24 also brings with it a litany of tweaks and adjustments across the board, from U.I. and menu issues, to audio fixes, and the stomping of a variety of bugs that would crop up in online situations. A new "Report" feature has als??o been added, allowing players to call out toxic behavior via another player's "R-Code" (profile). Players can also now choose to both m?ute and block troublemakers, which should help to keep the locker room a little more cheerful.

Adding crossplay to Guilty Gear Strive will only help to prolong the life of the title into 2023 and beyond. This action widens the player pool and offers up the opportunity for greater battle experience across the board. It is assumed that the incoming Xbox port of Strive (scheduled to launch in spring 2023), will only bring more players into the fold, ensuring that the top-tier fighter will continue to hold its own against incoming releases such as Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8.
