Directed by Yuichiro Hayashi, the mastermind behind the final season, THE LAST ATTACK is more than just a simple re-edit. According to Crunchyroll, Hayashi shared that the original storyboards for THE FINAL CHAPTERS were conceived with a movie format in mind, making this theatrical release a "dream come true" for him. The visuals have been updated from the original television broadcast to take full advantage of the big screen, ensuring that viewers will experience t??he series' climax in the best possible way.

Attack on Titan follows the story of humanity's desperate struggle for survival in a world where giant ?humanoid creatures known as Titans have decimated civilization. The series centers around Eren Jaeger and his friends Mikasa Ackerman and Armin Arlert as they join the military to fight back against the Titans and uncover the dark secrets behind their existence.

Looks like we're in store for a lovely little adventure with this Pokémon anime

There is just so much Pokémon anime out there, and yet it's always so good, it never feels like enough. Thankfully, the first installment of a brand new three-episode Pokémon anime web series just dropped: Hisuian Snow, which is set in the Hisui region of Pokémon Legends: Arceus. The mini-series is produced by Wit Studio, which famously created the hit anime series Attack on Titan. Ken Yamamoto, who worked on Princess Connect! Re:Dive as an episode director, serves as director for Hisuian Snow, and Taku Kishimoto of Fruits BasketHaikyu!! fame is the lead screenwriter.

Hisuian Snow centers on a young man named Alec, who had been told his whole life that Pokémon and humans cannot coexist peacefully. When he wanders out into the snowy forest, he encounters a wild Hisuian Zorua, and inadvertently kicks off their adventure together. There is also the looming threat of a strong, unfriendly Zoroark that lives in the forest as well, although it remains shrouded in myst??ery for now.

//twitter.com/Pokemon/status/1526911249832886278?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E15269?11249832886278%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.polygon.com%2F23123567%2Fpokemon-hisuian-snow-anime-first-episod??e

As someone who is still relatively new to the world of anime (and more specifically, Pokémon anime), Hisuian Snow looks like a great place to start. It may only be a few episodes long, but it already promises the fun, thrills, and heart that fans of the series have become accustomed to. With such an all-star team behind the wheel, it's no surprise that the series is of the quality that it is, and we'll certainly be looking forward to the rest of the episodes, neither of which have a release date yet. We suspect they won't be too far off, though, and at the very least, the first episode "Onto the Icy Blue" is available to watch now on the Pokémon YouTube channel and the Pokémon TV app.

Go Go Eren Yeager

Attack on Titan got really big really fast after the anime debuted, and it didn't take long to reach its saturation point. I mean, the show gets decent near the end but there's so much wasted time before that, and even the manga (which is now expected to run through at least 2018, jettisoning the original plan to kill off everyone early on -- which I now call Homeland-ing) can only go so far with the premise before it starts retreading the s??ame plot points.

The second season of the show promises more revelations, but given that it's coming in spring 2017, you'll have to deal with more retellings of the Battle of Trost until then. That includes the newest release from Omega Force, cleverly titled Attack on Titan, which manages to cut out a lot of that f?iller and get straight into slicing and dicing fools.

Attack on Titan (PC, PS3, PS4 [reviewed], PS Vita, Xbox One)
Developer: Omega Force
Publisher: Koei Tecmo
Released: February 18, 2016 (Japan), August 30, 2016 (US)
MSRP: $59.99

[For the sake of my sanity (and clarity), I'll refer to this iteration by its European subtitle, Wings of Freedom from here on out.]

Wings of Freedom starts as most Titan tales commonly do -- the destruction of Wall Maria -- before jumping to flashbacks in various points of time, framed around Eren Yeager, a young boy who lost his mother to the Titans. For those of you who don't follow the show, Titans are mysterious creatures (whose origins are hinted at in various media, but I won't spoil that here) who eat humans. Humanity elected to erect walls around a massive capital, cowering behind them. But a small group of soldiers (comprised of several squads) don Three Dimensional Maneuver Gear and fight back directly with blades, taking the Titans out by slicing up their only weak point -- the napes of their ne??ck.

That gimmick is the crux of the game, and makes for one of the best unintended Spider-Man titles in years. Swinging around like a maniac and jetting across a map is a thrill, and sometimes I'd head into the freeplay mode just to mess about. It's pretty easy to initi?ate too as it's all tied to an anchor button (Square), with the option to re-anchor at will (either to a piece of terrain or an actual Titan, with optional lock-on assistance) or boost ahead. Actions like dropping 50 feet and then re-anchoring just before you hit the ground look as cool as it plays, especially when your AI teammates actually feel useful and actively participate in the carnage.

But there's a big caveat -- you need to constantly manipulate the camera with the right analog stick to stay sane. If you're used to this type of thing due to years of training with old-school mascot platformers and the like (or have mastered the claw controller technique), you'll be fine, but the camera i?s going to piss a lot of people off. I can't stress that enough. If you're not accustomed to it, you might feel like flinging your controller against the wall. I did notice some frame rate drops when there's a ton happening on-screen, but nothing was too major.

While I was afraid the campaign would mostly consist of city-scapes, I was glad to see that wasn't the case. The main focus is on outdoor, open-ended maps with many different types of Titans, including some large-scale boss battles with "Abnormals," atypical monsters with special qualities like armored skin or molten body types. Online co-op for freeplay is in, and yep, there's RPG elements like stats to build, very small hubs to chat in, materials to acquire, and items to grab, but the system isn't nearly as compelling as Omega Force's past work (Hyrule Warriors&nb??sp;pretty much nailed this). I was happy to take this ride until the end of the road, but I probably won't be sticking around for weeks.

The thing that is most amazing about Wings of Freedom thou?gh is how faithfully it recreates the look of the show. Even the completely new zones feel like they were crafted by the same animators, and taking out Titans and having your character soaked in blood is a great effect. But the same shonen-heavy tone carries out, which will feel completely?? alien to you if you don't watch or are remotely familiar with anime. There's very little that's actually revealed over the course of the game, and even the snippets of compelling drama aren't translated well in favor of focusing on the action. I wouldn't necessarily say that you need to watch the show to enjoy it, but knowing the nuances of the cast and their motivations can help you get more out of it.

Then there's the issue of subtitles. Not only is there no option for an English dub, but the game is often so hectic that it's hard to read the on-screen text. I don't mind subtitles in the slightest for just about any game, but flying around with the Maneuver Gear and trying to read a pivotal message is much harder than doing it on foot in a typical Warriors game.

Keep in mind that even though you're not battling "one million troops" at once, Attack on Titan still sticks to tried-and-true Omega Force sensibilities. It has light RPG elements, but it's still a hack-and-slash, and those of you who aren't down with Warriors games will probably get?? bored after several hour??s.

[This review is based on a retail build of the game provided by ??the publisher.]

Amazon, Best Buy, EB Canada, GameStop, PSN

Now is the spe??cial time in a game??'s life when pre-order incentives come out to play.

Whereas Season 2 of the anime will miss its 2016 window (when will we ever find out what pointless maguffin was in Eren's basement!?), the new Omega Force-led Attack on Titan game is coming in August in the west (it dropped in February in Japan), and it brings DLC with it. You'll get three costumes (for Eren, Levi, and Mikasa) if you pre-order at Amazon, Best Buy, EB Canada, and GameStop, and avatars if you spring for a digital PSN?? preload. Suffice to say, these are kind of throwaway bonuses.

There's also a pair of surprisingly educational ?trailers for people who haven't experienced the series yet -- especially the first combat? video, which explains the best way to take down a titular Titan. It's still slated for release on PS4 and Xbox One physically outside of Japan, and digitally on PS3, Vita, and PC

Spoilers for this hugely popular show

When Koei Tecmo's new Attack on Titan game hits later this year, you'll get to play as a Titan. Although they've only released 20 seconds of gameplay it's enough to get a picture -- I just hope to god that half of the goddamn game doesn't take place in Trost. Or that Armin isn't featured, like, at all. Or that there aren't tons of filler events that are disguised as character development leading to an anticlimactic ending. Since you can likely skip these scenes and get to the fun bits like jetting around in 3D Gear or smashing things as said Titan, ??I'll probably be good.

I won't name who the Titan is in this article, despite the fact that the show is widely available at ??this point and if you really want to see it, you would have seen it by now.

Take a look

Attack on Titan is officially Koei Tecmo's first PS4-centric development project, but the game is also coming to PS3 and Vita by way? of a downscaled port. While we've seen the PS4 build quite a bit since the studio went public with it, f?ootage of the other ones haven't really been shown prominently.

The publisher is killing two birds with one stone here in the below video. I have to say if you can help it, get?ting KT titles on the newest platform possible is the way to go -- it's not just the enhanced visuals that you want, but the stable framerate when tons of action is happening on-screen.

February 18, 2016

We’ve known for a while now that Koei Tecmo’s Attack on Titan game would be coming to PS3, PS4 and PS Vita in February.  Now thanks to Gematsu, ??we appear to? have an actual Japanese release date: February 18, 2016.

There currently isn’t any word on when the game will be making its way to the west, other than a vague “2016.” Considering the massive popularity of Attack on Titan in the west, I don’t expect it to take as long as Dragon Quest Heroes’ eigh??t-month wait for a localisation, but unf?ortunately it could still be a while before we get our hands on it.

As well as the standard release of the game, Japan will also be seeing a Treasure Box edition full of goodies: an artbook, the soundtrack, a muffler towel?, six badg??es, and exclusive costumes.

Now we just need to wait until February 18 to see whether this big-budget adaptation is anywhere near as good as that small fangame that’s?? been available for a couple of years now. I lost so many hours to that thing, so here’s hopin?g Koei Tecmo’s attempt is just as fun!

On PS3, PS4, and Vita

By way of a new trailer from Koei Tecmo, we now know that Attack on Titan will launch in Japan in February of 2016. It'll be released for the PS3, PS4??, and Vita platforms, but what's particularly notable is that this is the first time the developer has created a game primarily for the current generation. Instead of crafting PS3 first and upscaling, the opposite was done in th?is case.

While footage was scarce at launch, this new trailer gives us a good ??idea of what to expect. All of the usual suspects are here (including Levi), and there's plenty of Trost fighting, a?s well as forest battles and hub world activities.

Another teaser

It's a small tidbit of gameplay, but this teaser from Koei Tecmo will give you an idea of what the new Attack on Titan [working title] game will look like. This will be their first "lead platform" PS4 game, so I'm expecting big things in terms of the engine's framerate and draw distance. The trailer shows off a ton of characters on-screen?? at the same time, and I really hope that?'s an actual reality come release.

Attack on Titan&n??bsp;??will hit the PS3, PS4, and Vita at some point next year.

A shade or ten prettier than the 3DS one

No offense to Attack on Titan: Humanity in Chains, which I'm sure Spike Chunsoft put a lot of hard work into, but this is more like it. This is the sort of Shingeki no Kyojin game I've been waiting for.

This time around Koei Tecmo's Dynasty Warriors studio Omega Force is behind the helm, making a new game for PlayStation systems that should (hopefully) do th?e franchise better justice.

The new title is modelling itself after the anime, casting the same voice actors from the show to repr??ise?? their roles, and employing a special graphical shading tool to give the game an anime look.

As we've previously discussed, Omega Force is treating the PS4 version as the lead platform this time aro???und, rather than PS3, which has been the studio's primary focus up until this point.

Koei Tecmo plans to release the game in Japan this winter an?d in the West sometime next year.
