When it comes to video games, there are a lot of memorable characters. Outside of their design or role with??in a game, what makes these characters memorable is their voice, and every one of these comes as a result of actors spending hours in a recording booth. 

There are a lot of voice actors out there, but some are more prolific or memorable than others. Their voices resonate in our head?s as part of the characters we come to love while playing, but who’s behind these voices and where else?? have they appeared?

Joel Miller (The Last of Us) - Troy Baker

Troy Baker might be one of the most well-known voices in video games. He’s not only the voice of Joel in The Last of Us but also Higgs Monaghan in Death Stranding, John Jones in Fortnite, The Joker in Batman: Arkham Origins, and the voice of Snow in multiple Final Fantasy titles, including Final Fantasy XIII.

Harley Quinn (Arkham City) - Tara Strong 

Tara Strong is a voice that’s iconic for multiple generations. To me, she’s Timmy from Fairly Odd Parents. To my daughter, she’s Princess Twilight Sparkle from the My Little Pony franchise. In video games, Tara has played not only Harley Quinn in multiple titles, but you can also hear her voice in Rage, and she’s the voice of Rikku in Kingdom Hearts II.

Snake (Metal Gear Solid) - David Hayter

While David Hayter is perhaps most well known for his role as Snake in the Metal Gear Solid franchise and outside of it in other titles, he’s also appeared as the Winter Soldier in Marvel Heroes, a Jedi Knight in Star Wars: The Old Republic, and has multiple voice roles in the Ghost in the Shell game, released in 1997.

Mario (Multiple) - Charles Martinet

I can’t in all good conscience write this list without including Charles Martinet. His voice simply is Mario to anyone who has ever played a single game of the franchise. However, Mario isn’t Charlesâ€?only voice role in the world of video games. He’s appeared as Orvus in Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, Vigoro in Skies of Arcadia, and, perhaps surprisingly, The Cat in the Hat in a few titles aimed at kids, such as Dr. Seuss Toddler. 

Asterion (Baldur’s Gate III) - Neil Newbon

If TikTok is to be believed, Neil Newbon is the voice of everybody’s favorite Dom. However, before he was the voice of Asterion, Neil appeared in the Resident Evil games as Karl Heisenberg in Resident Evil Village and Nicholai in Resident Evil Resistance. He also played two roles in Detroit: Become Human, Elijah Kamski and Gavin Reed.

Ezio Auditore (Assassin's Creed II Trilogy) - Roger Craig Smith

Roger Crag Smith, I’m not ashamed to say, played a pivotal role in the formation of my love for gaming. I was, and remain to this day, obsessed with Assassin’s Creed II and will always consider it the best of the Assassin’s Creed titles. However, Roger Craig Smith has appeared in many more video games. He’s played Kale Vandelay and SEB-AAA in Hi-Fi RUSH, Sonic the Hedgehog in multiple titles and Mirage in Apex Legends. Most recently, you might recognize his voice as Mission Control in Helldivers 2.

Tiny Tina (Borderlands) - Ashly Burch

Although most recognizable for her voice as Tiny Tina in the Borderlands games, Ashley Burch has played a lot of memorable characters in other titles. She’s the voice of Aloy in Horizon Zero Dawn, Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series, Mel in The Last of Us Part II, and also provided the voice of Chloe Price in both Life is Strange games. 

Urianger (Final Fantasy XIV) - Timothy Watson

Aside from gracing the world with the purely Shakespearean presence that is Urianger Augurelt in Final Fantasy XIV, Timothy Watson has also appeared in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla as King Burgred, has multiple voice roles in Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age, and played Mumkhar in Xenoblade Chronicles. 

GLaDOS (Portal) - Ellen McClain

The voice of everybody’s favorite psychopathic robot from the Portal games was provided by Ellen McClain, but it wasn’t the first time she provided an iconic robotic female voice in the world of video games. Ellen is also the voice behind the Combine Overwatch AI in Half-Life 2. She also appears in Cyberpunk 2077 as one of Delamain’s split personalities, though th??is one was? modeled after GlaDOS.

Geralt of Rivia (The Witcher) - Doug Cockle

Doug Cockle is the voice of Geralt in The Witcher game series as well as when Geralt appears in other titles like Soul Caliber VI. He’s also appeared as Bhaal in Baldur’s Gate III, Robert Nightingale in Alan Wake II, and provides multiple additional voices in Horizon Zero Dawn. Outside of gaming, Doug also played the role of Father John Maloney in 2001's Band of Brothers.

That's a lot of Batman

Batman Day is a real thing, apparently. I only learned about it yesterday when posting that Fortnite leak, but I guess this "holiday" is a bigger deal than I realized. In celebration of the Dark Knight's own day, Epi?c Games is giving out six different Batman titles for absolutely nothing. That's a hell of a free gift an??d could occupy you for dozens of hours.

If you boot up the launcher, you'll be able to grab the Batman: Arkham Collection and LEGO Batman Trilogy collections. As should be evident, these two bundles contain all three of their respective Batman titles in one easy package. In the case of the Arkham titles, both Asylum and City are the "Game of the Year" editions (which include all of the DLC released for both). Arkham Knight and LEGO Batman 3, though, do not have their DLC present.

That may be a little disappointing, but this is still a solid deal. I don't much care for LEGO Batman 2, but basically, all of these games are worth a look. At the low price of free, you'd be silly to pass it up. The offer will be up for grabs until September 26, so you have some time to nab i??t.

This one took three years to find

Across the Arkham titles, the developers have included at least two incredibly well-hidden easter eggs. Who could forget the one in Arkham Asylum that was so stashed away that Rocksteady itself had to reveal it? Arkham Ciy has one like? that too, and it's coming to light three years after the game's release.

Last week, a YouTube video titled "Arkham City Secret?" was posted, and ?it was seemingly done from a Rocksteady-created account. It featured some previously unheard dialogue from Calendar Man, but it cut out before f??inishing.

A few days later, this dissection from user Batman Arkham Videos appeared. It shows how to recreate the easter egg and guesses at the reasoning behind it. It requires setting your PC or console to December 13, 2004 and then visiting Calendar Man's cell. The date is like?ly a reference to the date Rocksteady opened its doors.

As for the message itself, it's a toss-up as to its true meaning. It's most likely a self-nod from Rocksteady at how far it's come as a developer and that it's ready to finish the trilogy. However, there's the chance that the "end of days" it refers to foreshadows Batman's fate in the next installment. Whatever it means, Arkham Knight can't get here soon enough.

Another one down

I had long wanted to play Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham Origins on PC for the prettier graphics and improved physics, but the Games for Windows Live requirement pushed me into playing both titles on console. That's no longer an issue. Similar to BioShock 2, the pair has moved away from the service as Microsoft winds ??it down in the coming months.

If you own either title on Steam, just wait for the update to do its thing -- Arkham City now has a Mac version included. Otherwi??se, you can redeem your retail copy through the platform and, even if it's just the vanilla game without DLC, you'll end up with the upgraded game of the year edition. Unfortunately, this will result in having to start a new save file. Think of the Riddler trophies.

To accompany this news, the games are on sale. Arkham City and Arkham Asylum are down to $7.50 and $5, respectively, for the weekend. These are the game of ?the year editions, too!

As I'm sure you're all very well aware, Nintendo's E3 press conference was this morning, and while Batman: Arkham City was one of the very first games announced for the Wii U, today we got a peek at some of the added features for the so-called "Armored Edition."

Almost all of these features include the Wii U tablet ??controller. Detective vision will now be displayed through the pad, the remote?-controlled Bat-a-rang can be guided precisely, and weapons and gadgets will all be accessible through the secondary display. 

It all looks pretty slick, but I don't know if tha??t sort of functionality alone will be enough to sel??l me on the Wii U.

Batman: Arkham City Game of the Year Edition is coming out next Tuesday, and as a little reminder Warner Bros. put out a new trailer showing off some of the voice talent do their thing. As shameful as it is to admit, I missed getting my hands on the new Batman game the first time around. Needless to say, I'm definitly going to make up fo??r that with?? the re-release.

The Game of the Year Edition will include alternative skins, Catwoman, Nightwing and the Robin downloadable content, the new Harley Quinn content, the Batman: Year One animated movie and the worst cover art you've seen for a game since Phalanx.

Rocksteady Studios has got another trailer for "Harley Quinn's Revenge" ahead of the add-on's May 29 release on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live, though this one isn't quite s??uc?h a tease.

We're shown the basic setup for how Robin gets involved and are?? gi??ven a good look at Quinn's less-than-pristine appearance. One of my favorite aspects of the core game was that the inhabitants of Arkham City looked suitably dirty and sickly -- particularly Batman as the story progressed -- so it's nice to see that attention to detail continue in the DLC.

After devoting an entire Sunday to dealing with the Riddler and his absurd amount of collectibles in Batman: Arkham City, I walked away from the game and neve??r looked back. With any luck, "Harley Quinn's Revenge" will pull me in, if only for a little while. This $9.99 add-on? is said to include around two hours of single-player content. That'll do.

A brief trailer and a selection of screenshots should give you an idea of what to expect ahead of the May 29 release date. Both Batman and Robin are going to be playable characters, in case that wasn't made clear in the media. New players can also get "Harley Quinn's Revenge" packed in with Batman: Arkham City Game of the Year Edition which launches? the same day as the standalone release.

On its own, this might not have much meaning, but when you look over these leaked Trophies for unnamed downloadable content, everything comes together nicely. It sounds as if the add-on could be more substantial and story-based than the previous DLC released for Arkham City. If so, I'm totally in.

Metacritic has released its annual list of top rated games, revealing that Batman: Arkham City on PS3 was the most critically acclaimed title of 2011. It beat out The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim by a mouse's cock.

While I'm not thrilled with the idea, at least this option exists for consumers. And the outfits certainly could have b??een more expensive.

The seven costumes -- 1970s Batsuit, Year One Batman, The Dark Kn??ight Returns, Earth One Batman, Batman Beyond Batman, Animated Batman, and Sinestro Corps Batman -- are being bundled together with an asking price of $4.99 (400 Microsoft Points) on PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, and Games for Windows.

Batman: Arkham City has received its first big PC patch, fixing a number of bugs and finally allowing the game to be run with DirectX 11. That is, unles??s you're using a 32 bit system, in which cas?e you'll still have to use DX 9. 

"Users running Windows 7 32 bit or Windows Vista 32 bit should ONLY use DX 9 settings until a?? future patch that addresses this specific issue is released," said Warner Brothers. "We are actively working to address the remaining issue tied to DX 11 for users running 32 bit versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7."

Check below for the fixes available in this patch. Makes you wonder what Rocksteady was doing with that month's delay.

• Performance / hitching issues have been greatly improved for running in DX 11.
• An issue with players running out of Video Memory or encountering a Rendering Thread Exceptions has been address. This was primarily affecting 32-bit Operating Systems.
• A progression block after defeating [spoiler] has been fixed. This was issue occurred primarily on lower end computer setups and described as Batman not readying his Reverse Batarang.
• A crash that occurred when scrolling between the Character Bios and Arkham City Stories has been fixed.
• A crash that occurred when selecting "Press Start" immediately when available at the Title Screen has been fixed. The issue was described as crashing/hard locking around the DLC (Downloadable Content) check.

Batman: Arkham City's lauded PC version is not quite advertised optimal experience right now, with DirectX11 support remaining quite broken. I noticed the issue myself when the game lagged, stuttered and performed terribly until I switched to DX9. I am far from alone. 

Warner Bros. is aware of the issue and has stated that a ??patch is coming in the "near future", but woul?dn't give a timeframe. Until then, DX9 is the only way to get the game running smoothly, which I can confirm it does. 

Considering the game was delayed a month, this is pretty miserable news. The PC version was heavily ad??vertised as providing the ultimate visual experience, full of fancy visual upgrades. That DX11 doesn't work is perhaps expected by cynical PC gamers, but no less disappointing for it.

I tend to think of sports games when it comes to Big Head Mode, but Rocksteady Studios was willing to apply the equally creepy and funny style to Batman: Arkham City. Good on you!

All that's required to enable the mode is holding down both triggers and moving the an??alog sticks in a circular fashion. Though the video demonstration showed this happening while the Cryptographic Sequencer was out, I don't think that having the device acti?ve is a requirement.

Haven't had time to try this out for myself, but others are saying you can even initiate it from the main menu. One has to wo??nder what else Rocksteady has hidden in Arkham City.

Warner Brothers has acknowledged the corrupted save issue in Batman: Arkham City but it needs help before it can work on a solution. The company has set up a survey, asking fans for ?information that will ??help get the problem isolated.

Customers are prompted to send system information to support@wbgames, detailing their Xbox 360? model and storage method. The following questions need answering:

• What version of the XBOX 360 hardware are you are experiencing the “disappearing save files” issue on? What storage method are you using to save your Batman: Arkham City game files to (i.e. XBOX 360 hard drive, XBOX 360 memory unit, USB drive)? 
• What version of the XBOX 360 system software do you have on your machine? 
• Are you running a Beta version of the forthcoming XBOX 360 “Holiday 2011” system update? 
• Have you experienced the “disappearing save files” issue before and/or after installing any Batman: Arkham City DLC content (If yes, please be specific as to the DLC content you have downloaded)? 
• Have you experienced the "disappearing save files" issue before and/or after installing either of Batman: Arkham City's two title updates?

If you're affected by t??his problem, let Warner Brothers know! Hopefully they can resolve t??his nonsense soon.

The Xbox 360 version of Batman: Arkham City is said to be costing gamers hours upon hours of progress with a save file glitch that's corrupting data. Complaints have filled a 21-page forum thread, indicating that the issue may be more common than is co??mfortable. 

Problems seem identical across all users, with the game completely unable to recognize the file's existence. No t??rick or fix appears to be able to bring it back on the user end. Needless ??to say, customers are not happy about it. 

Warner Bros. is said to be working on a fix, but there's no timeframe, nor co?nfirmation as to whether or not the files are lost forever. 

I bet the PC gamers are glad they waited.

Warner Bros. has announced the final release date for the delayed PC version of Batman: Arkham City. The gorgeous computer alternative will come to North America on November 22 and Europe on N??ovember 25.

Arkham City came to consoles last month and PC gamers have been patiently waiting for word on their PhysX-flavored version. That word has now arrived, so get ready for all those shattered-glass effects and extra lighting. So much lighting, guys!

For those that still want more from Batman: Arkham City, the Dark Knight's ex-sidekick, Nightwing, is getting some DLC. From November 1 yo?u'll have the opportunity to take on the challenge rooms as Batman's protege. Nightwing has his own unique gadgets and moves, he's a little lighter on his feet than the Caped Crusader and sports a pair of Eskrima fighting sticks. He also uses electricity rather liberally and probably has to get used to the smell of singed flesh.

Also included in the DLC are two new challenge rooms -- Wayne Manor and Main Hall -- and a bonus skin for Nightwing based on the Batman: The Animated Series version of the character. It will go live on November 1 on XBL Marketplace for 560 MS points and on PSN for $6.99. Additionally, the preorder bonus Robin DLC will go live for?? everyone on November 22 for the same price.

Warner Brothers has declared Batman: Arkham City to be a triumph at stores, stating that 4.6 million copies of the game were s??hipped worldwide last week. This is, of course, a bit of subtle trickery on the PR wordsmiths over there, as this number is indicative only of how many copies are available for purchase, not how many have actually been sold.

I don't think they're putting the cart before the horse here. The game is going to sell exceptionally well if our review is any indication. I just always feel a little weird about these press releases whenever they come out. Sure, you want to pimp the success of y??our game, but bragging about how many units you've made has always seemed to me like a silly way to g?o about it.

New Era Caps has produced a series of caps featuring art from Batman: Arkham City. They sent us photos of? the three st??yles, which include a logo cap and a rather striking design using some of the black and white (and crimson) art from promotional materials.

Hats used to be so simple. All of these designer hats I've been seeing in the past few years just weird me out for some reason. I think it's the intentional lack of symmetry they usually display. Of course, I'm a born-and-raised suburbanite who can't even bring himself to wear a ball cap backwards, so perhaps I am not the per??son upon whom you should be basing your fashion sense on.

If you're anything like me, you find yourself getting lost in Arkham City. It's huge! And there's too many people talking in the background -- it gets?? confusing. 

I'm hoping this new Batman: Arkham City Map App will help. Bradygames worked with Rocksteady and Warner Bros. to create it, and it's now available now from Apple's App store. It features maps for every area in the game, locations of more than 350 collectibles, and an ??interactive collectible tracking system. 

Alfred will be like, "Dude, where did you ge??t that!?"

Warner Brothers has commented on the issue of broken DLC codes shipping with copies of Batman: Arkham City, insisting that only a small percentage of consum?ers were affected, but that it will r??esolve the issues concerning an otherwise "successful" launch. 

"Since Tuesday's incredibly successful launch of Batman: Arkham City in North America, our customer support team has received a very small number of calls/emails (less than 0.05 percent of total units sold) regarding Catwoman codes either be??ing invalid or not included in the game packaging," it said. "While the number of affected versions is very small, WB Games apologises for any inconvenience this has caused and we are committed to getting these issues resolved as quickly as possible."

Having a small percentage of problems isn't an excuse, not when it??'s ??a problem that never needed to happen in the first place. 

As well as Catwoman, ?codes for various pre-order skins and special edition DLC have also been causing gamers grief. Hopefully WB has plans to make things good with those, too!

A new video has surfaced, detailing just how much better Batman: Arkham City is going to look on PC when t?he delayed version finally la??unches. Pride of place is given to the PhysX effects that Nvidia's cards can take advantage of, and the difference is noticeable. 

In addition to the video, a screenshot of Catwoman in all her highly detailed glory has been provi??ded.

Just take a look at the video and see the sheer amount of stuff going on in the PC version compared to the console alternative. At least the computer crowd will be getting some eye candy in exchange for their delay. Just a shame they had to stick SecuROM in there, of all things.

Batman: Arkham City was just released on October 18 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Hopefully, the walkthrough will help you beat the game or help you decide if you should buy it. The guy playing is Ray Segal, a self-professed Batman expert. He, currentl??y, spends his days actually believing he is Batman.

Customers buying Batman: Arkham City are in for potential disappointment, with reports that a number of copies are missing the scrap of paper containing Catwoman's un?lock code. Rocksteady's mutation of the Online Pass locks out four campaign missions without the code, and if the code doesn't work, you're buggered.

One of our readers had the code sheet, but the code wasn't actually printed on it. Others have had codes, but cannot redeem them. This isn't just for Catwoman -- Batman's ten ?m?illion pre-order DLC skins are also featuring problems. 

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is another reason why an industry increasingly littered with pass codes is bullshit. The more crap you stuff into a game box, the more opportunity you have for things to go wrong. This isn't the first time that online passes have dropped the ball, and new customers, as well as used, get royally screwed thanks to incompetent money-grubbing. I fail to see how anybody could find this remotely acceptable.

If you're planning on playing Batman: Arkham City on the PC, then news of its delay would have been disheartening and probably not that big a surprise. At least, like Assassin's Creed: Revelation on the PC, we'll be seeing Rocksteady's sequel this year??, on November 18.

If you're keen to put some money down, then Steam has a tempting offer; those who already own Batman: Arkham Asylum or LEGO Batman (... okay?) will get a 20% discount on Arkham City. To sweeten the pot, both LEGO Batman and Arkham Asylum are reduced by 50% until Thursday evening.

I like the idea of offering you a discount for showing some loyalty to a franchise. GSC did something similar with the last S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game a??nd it's something publishers should offer more frequently. Now if you don't mind, I?'m off to save some money...
