When it comes ??to having a cheeky gaming session, the Wii U might not be your first choice in terms of chosen platform. However, just because it’s an older platform, that doesn’t mean there aren’t a huge number of absolutely incredible games to play on it.

I have fond memories of my Wii U, although sadly, it died a child’s drink spillage-related death a few years ago. It’s been a while since I picked one up, but I can still vividly remember playing on it f??or hours. Most of those hours were pumped into a select few games, so with that knowledge, here are my 10 favorite titles on the Wii U, in no particular order.

Bayonetta 2

Bayonetta 2

Nintendo is often considered to be the most family-friendly of all gaming platforms, so the fact that Bayonetta 2 (and the first game) exists on the platform is still something that I can’t quite wrap my head around. It’s filled with expletives right from the very beginning, is filled to the brim with fan service anima??tions that do nothing to progress the story, and is as far from family-friendly as you can possibly get?.

However, it does exist, and it’s incredibly fun to play. The hack-and-slash gameplay is weirdly addictive, and if you look past the astonishing amount of jiggle physics, you might even enjoy the story. Or, you know, if ??you’re into that kind of thing, then you might not even need to pay attention to the story. To each their own.

ZombiU

ZombiU
Image via Ubisoft

Look, I know, zombies and games involving them have been done to death (no pun intended, but I’ll take all the puns I can get). However, ZombiU has stood the test of time in terms of anxiety induction, and there’s something it has th??at can’t be said about many other human-eating-walking-corpse titl??es â€?permadeath.

Waking up in a London filled with flesh-chomping undead creepers is bad enough, but progressing through the story only to die and wake up as someone entirely different is definitely a frustration. Not to mention the fact that if you want to get your stuff back ??from your former self, you’ll probably have to kill them, which isn’t ideal if ??you become attached to who you once were.

Yoshi’s Woolly World

Yoshi's Woolly World

There has always been something undeniably cute and comforting about Yoshi. He’s a dinosaur with huge eyes and a bright, happy smile. Now take that cuteness and convert it into crochet, and everyone’s favorite dino becomes infinitely m??ore adorable.

Everything in Yoshi’s Woolly World has a touch of arts and crafts to it, with springy tree?? trunks, knitted backdrops, and, of course, Yoshi in all his crocheted glory. The aim of the game is to retrieve the stolen yarn pieces from Kamek, who rather handily has dropped a bunch of pieces while making his escape, in order to knit your friends back together.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

I think it would be almost criminal to write up a list of the best Wii U games and not include a Zelda game, and Breath of the Wild is definitely the stand-out title that was released for the platform. Some of you might not even know that it wasn’t a Switch exclusive release because I’d forgot?ten until looking into?? what to include here.

Breath of the Wild is often heralded as the best Zelda game to date, and for good reason. It was the first fully open-world title and is filled with beautiful areas to explore, collectibles to discover, and quests to complete. If you’re looking for a Zelda game to play on ??the Wii U, then this ??would definitely be my first recommendation.

Xenoblade Chronicles X

Xenoblade Chronicles X

If you’re struggling to wait for the release of Xenoblade Chronicles X on Nintendo Switch next year, then you can fork out for a Wii U (unless you already have your old one; how very forward-thinking of you) and play Xenoblade Chronicles X on it.

Xenoblade Chronicles X allows you to explore the expansive open?? world of Mira, consisting of five wildly different continents that are unlocked ??as you progress and complete quests alongside a party of fellow BLADE members. And, if exploration and quest completion weren’t enough to make you want to play, there’s also a number of Skell mechs that can be purchased and upgraded in the latter half of a playthrough.

Mario Kart 8

Mario Kart 8
Image via Nintendo

Mario Kart 8 is either a fond memory or a frustrating experience that you never want to repeat again, depending on your skill level and whether or not you chose to play with the people who claim to love you yet throw every power-up possible in y?our direction. As you can tell, I fall into the “frustrating experiencecamp on this one.

With that said, there’s no denying that Mario Kart 8 is incredibly fun to play solo or with friends who might go a little easier on you than mine did. You can choose your difficulty, pick your driver and vehicle, and then try to come first. It’s not limited to characters from just the Mario universe, either. You can race as characters from other franchises like The Legend of Zelda or Splatoon or even go in as your own Mii.

Assassin’s Creed III

Assassin's Creed III
Image via Ubisoft

Assassin’s Creed III was released on multiple platforms back in 2012, including the Wii U. It centered around Ratonhnaké ton (or Connor, if you want to make things easier on yourself), an assassin in Colonial America at around the time of the American Revolution. As a bit of a history nerd, this is the kind of Assassin’s Creed that sparks a huge amount of joy in me.

Of course, Assassin’s Creed III was filled with freerunning and parkour adventures, but it also introduced something new naval gameplay. Connor becomes the captain of the Aquila, and it can be upgraded and improved with new weapons, armor, and crew. Admittedly, the ship part of Assassin’s Creed III was my least favorite part of the game, but I’ve?? come to learn that I might be in the minority on that f??ront.

Pikmin 3

Pikmin 3
Image via Nintendo

As with all Pikmin games, ??the third in the series is filled with fights, puzzles, and an endless grind of resource? gathering. The cuteness of the Pikmin is ever-present, and there’s something incredibly addictive about this one, which would explain why I’ve replayed it about five times in the last decade.

Along with the well-loved Red, Yellow, and Blue Pikmins, Pikmin 3 introduces a couple of new colors with their own skills - Grey Pikmin, which can destroy barriers and are immune to crush damage??, and pink Winged Pikmin, which can attack from the skies and also soar through them over obstacles that would otherwise be impassable.

Super Smash Bros.

Super Smash Bros.
Image via Nintendo

There are two types of people when it comes to playing Super Smash Bros. - those who memorize the combinations and inevitably win every battle, and those who button mash as if their life depends on it and while they may lose the battle, they enjoy the therapeutic process of trying to stay on th?e platforms.

One of the best things about Super Smash Bros. is the number of characters from different franchises. There are playable characters from Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Xenoblade Chronicles, Duck Hunt, and even Wii Fit of all things. And these are just in the base game, never mind downloadable characters like Cloud Strife and Sega from Bayonetta. There’s endless fun to be had with Super Smash Bros., and possibly some arguments, so tr?y not to take it too seriously.

Rayman Legends

Rayman Legends
Image via Ubisoft

Rayman Legends is another title that has been released on various platforms, including the Wii U. It’s a local co-op platformer that is capable o??f inciting a huge amount of frustration. However, regardless of how frustrated it might make you, you forgive it be??cause it’s addictive, and getting through each level leaves you feeling accomplished.

Events in Rayman Legends take place a whole century after those of Rayman Origins, and you’ll need to travel across worlds and d?efeat world bosses in order to complete the story. Collecting Teensies unlocks new worlds, and there are new playable charact??ers to unlock along the way, such as Barbara the Barbarian Princess and her various family members.

The short answer is yes you can dive in; but if you have time, playing the first two would be ideal

If you asked a member of the Platinum marketing team, they'd probably tell you that Bayonetta 3 as a standalone story that you can dive into. But if you asked Platinum dev and executive Hideki Kamiya, he'd urge you to play the initial two games first. The latter is mostly true: if you can play the first two, you'll get a lot out of it. If you play Bayonetta 3 first you'll mostly be fine, but there are bits and pieces from the original two game??s that will greatly benefit your enjoyment of the story, and certain charact??er interactions.

Minor vague spoilers below in terms of themes, but nothing specific

In Bayonetta 3, the titular protagonist and her team are squaring off against a new threat: humanity. Or rather, humanity ??evolved, by way of "Homonculi." Bayonetta has essentially conquered hell and heaven in her original games (which are present throughout mostly in the form of challenge rooms), but this story is new, and most of it will be easy to glean/pick up as said threat is introduced. Viola, the new playable character, is also a clever way to usher in brand new players and ground them to this third entry.

The action speaks for itself. Bayonetta 3 has myriad tutorials, as well an easier mode, and even an accessory that can do auto-combos (you just need to purchase it from the shop). By all counts, it's arguably the most accessible entry in the series from a mechanical standpoint. You can get the gist of what's happening through a lot of early exposition, ride out the adventure with Bayonetta's new adv??ersary, and pick up the game while you're at it.

That said, where you're really going to get a lot out of playing the first two games is the emotional resonance of the final act, an??d the character interactions. A few people kind of just pop up, and especially toward the end of the game, you're meant to react to them ?on a more personal level, and vibe with the narrative twists.

If you have the time, you'll likely get a lot more out of the last portion of the game, specifically the ending. But if you just want to play?? a game with a good action foundation and come ?along for the ride, you can totally do that too: especially if you have no intention of revisiting the other two games.

Counting the days until February 16

With Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 releasing for Nintendo Switch ne??xt Friday, I'm stoked knowing that a bunch of folks are about to beat the shit out of angels with a witch's hair for the first time. I'm beaming.

Simply put, the Bayonetta series is an all-out riot. It shouldn't be missed if you're remotely into action games, particularly now that both titles will be easily accessible on a portable system many of us own and love and a third installment is in the works. Also, Enzo! Dear, sweet Enzo. Play for him too.

This latest trailer serves as an overview of all things Bayonetta for beginners and a refresher for those of you returning for round two on Switch. I don't mind paying a full $60 for the pair.

Good hair day

Nintendo have released a "short trailer" (it's actually called that) to whet appetites for the upcoming Switch port of Platinum Games' S&M-em-up, Bayonetta 2.

The re-release of the button-mashing title was first announced at The Game Awards last month, with the game ready to hit the hybrid-console mere weeks from now. Bayonetta 2 features ??t?he lollipop-loving witch, with a taste for dark arts and high fashion, as she journeys to the Gates of Hell to rescue BFF Jeannie.

The Switch release of the title will include an exclusive local multiplayer mode and amiib????o functionality. Physical copies will also include the original Bayonetta title, ??which first launched in the West, on PS3 and Xbox 360, way back in January 2010 (Yep.)

Bayonetta 2 is?? s??cheduled for launch on Nintendo Switch February 16.

Bayonetta 2 will have local and online co-op

A bunch of you who missed Bayonetta 2 on Wii U will have the opportunity to experience it on Nintendo Switch in February and that makes me so very happy. To my mind, it's one of the best action games ever made, and I say that as someone who skipped the original Bayonetta the first time around.

Expanding on what we saw last night at The Game Awards, Bayonetta 1 and 2 will be priced as follows:

  • The two-game physical edition will be $60 and include a download code for Bayonetta.
  • Bayonetta 2 will cost $50 on the Nintendo Switch eShop. Once you buy the sequel, you'll then be able to get Bayonetta for $10.
  • If you purchase Bayonetta on the Switch eShop first, it'll cost $30, but you'll then be able to nab Bayonetta 2 for $30.

In sho??rt,?? just get both of 'em on February 16. They're fantastic.

Platinum also announced a few extra features for Bayonetta 2 in a ?now-removed blog post. This new port will have online and local support for Tag Climax co-op, amiibo functionality of some sort (more costumes?), and up-to-30-second video recordings through the Switch's capture feature.

Balder was nearly playable in the story

Celebrating the two year anniversary of Bayonetta 2, Platinum Games' Yusuke Hashimoto, the game's director, ??took to their blog to ??muse on a few ideas that never left the cutting room floor.

One of them involves a dual campaign of sorts involving the witch Bayonetta and the angelic Balder, where the former battles angels as normal??, and the latter fights demons -- near the end they'd team up and conclude the campaign. Hashimoto states that he may have revealed it "five years ago" or so due to a slip of the tongue, but it's probably news to most people out there. Balder did end up making it in the game anyway as a playable character in the Tag Climax mode.

That actually sounds like a great concept, but far be it from me to ask Platinum to change what essentially ended up becoming a masterpiece. I really hope that this one is around in years to come given the Wii U's poor hardware sales -- because while folks can easily find a PS2 or P??S3 lying around even today, Wii U units might be hard to come by in 10 years or so.

It's about time!

When Bayonetta was revealed as the final DLC character for Super Smash Bros. for Wii and 3DS, we were told she would be receiving an amiibo just like every other fighter in the game. Since that announcement, it's been all quiet on the amiibo front. Even as new series of the popular toys were announced, fans of the ??angel murdering badass were left in want.

Just the other day I was complaining about a lack of information on Bayonetta and Cloud toys. Clearly, Bayonetta 2 director Yusuke Hashimoto? must have been listening because earlier today he gave us our first look at the highly-anticipated amiibo.

Okay, so the partial reveal of the toy was actually part of a blog post celebrating the 2nd anniversary of the game and no?t because of my whining, but I'm going to take credit for it anywa??y.

In the post, Hashimoto writ?es that he is "shocked by how well Bayonetta's essence has been shrunk down to fit in the palm of your hand" and that his team is still working to get the figure just right. He also thanks fans for the love and support they have shown for Cereza.

Hashimoto's also giving people a reason to return to Bayonetta 2 by revealing a few never-before-seen secrets from the game, includin?g hidden stores, secret move lists, and a ?way to get an assload of Halos to spend. I haven't played it in more than a year, but with this new information, I feel like it's time for me to revisit the second best game on the Wii U.

Discounts to perk you up

There are some choice deals available this weekend and the retailer of note is actually Walmart (cue the horror music). If you don't mind braving that place, the big box currently has great deals on two excellent titles: Bayonetta 2 for $20, and $12 off Quantum Break on the Xbox One.

Over on the PC side of things, Dark Souls III has a nifty 25 percent discount over at Games Planet (depending on your region). The Steam key is roughly $45 in the US, or about £32 in the UK. Keys are currently being sent out,as pre-loading started last Friday. Update: Price has now gone up at GamesPlanet so we're listing the deal at GMG instead for standard edition.

Finally, if you're picking up an eighth generation console this weekend, there are a number of Xbox One and PS4 bundle deals. Our top pick would be the Xbox One 1TB The Dvision bundle for only $319.

    Its raining deals!

As June creeps around the corner, we're now less than a month away from the release of Batman: Arkham Knight. This weekend the PC pre-order became very enticing at GMG where a both Arkham Knight edition is at 40% off&??nbsp;- dropping base game to $35 and Premium Edition to? $54 (both Steam keys).

Pre-ordering comes with the Harley Quinn playable character bonus. MSRP of the Premium Edition (includes pricey Season Pass) is at a ridiculous $100 but stacking the 10% instant savings with the 40% code net?s you the price above.

Also available this weekend is a decent deal on Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward. The first expansion to Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn releases on June 23rd (same day as Mr. Bat above) - the deal of course works on the Collector's Edition too (flying mount + other BS). If you've bought the S?team version of AAR, you'll want to avoid this copy fr?om GMG - if you've bought anywhere else you're good to go.

Last on the docket are two excellent deals on console exclusives: Bayonetta 2 dropped to its lowest price ever at GameStop to only $44.97, while the March released Bloodborne gets reduced  by $20 to only $39.99 at Best Buy.

The earrings (approximately $148) are crafted of a solid azure resin, with alloy construction and titanium posts, and come packaged in a black velvet lined box emblazoned with the Bayonetta 2 logo. Pre-orders are open until March 16 at Kobutsuya's website, and the e?arrings will b??e available around April 24.

What, no "If you need to? learn how to talk to a lady, ask your mom"?

At least this probably-old-but-new-to-me Bayonetta 2 soundboard has Enzo's catchphrase. I feel bad for making it to the? e?nd of the game before realizing he'd been left behind.

    What a goof. A foul-mouthed, lovable goof.

I've got a fever, and the only cure is more dead angels

Outside of Devil May Cry 3, Bayonetta is one of the finest action games of all tim?e. The action systems were so clean, so precise, and so rewarding? that it leaves pretty much everything these days in the dust.

Bayonetta 2 doesn't change a ???whole lot, and that's perfectly okay with me.

    Bayonetta 2 (Wii U)
    Developer: Platinum Games
    Publisher: Nintendo
    Released: October 24, 2014
    MSRP: $59.99 (with Bayonetta 1)

Bayonetta's s?imple and elegant technical action system returns in the sequel. On the surface, it's a two-button "punch-kick" system that also allows weapon switching and a ranged attack option. The beauty of the system is that it's very easy to learn, and on lower difficulties, it's viable to get by (albeit earning lower scores) with only pick??ing up a few combos.

But once you truly dig in to the tougher challenges, you'll have to master a large number of the game's combos to survive. Moves like the three-kick launcher, followed by an aerial rave, or the four-punch-kick flurry stun. While two buttons doe?sn't seem like much, the addition of delays and traditional fighting game moves expands the combo system to a whole new level. There's even air combos, and analog stick spin moves.

The sequel once again uses concepts pioneered in Devil May Cry 3 like projectile juggling and instant wea??pon switching mid-combo to allow for a near endless amount of options in how you choose to approach any situation. If this sounds intimidating, don't worry -- the game teache??s you everything fairly well. There's even a loading screen to practice on, with a combo list readily available to freshen up. It also tells you how many times you've used each move, in case you need an indicator of how to mix things up.

Dodging is as essential as ever, triggering a "Witch Time" slowdown effect if performed right before a blow is about to be struck. One of my favorite things about Bayonetta is that it doesn't have those goofy "DODGE NOW!" icons above all of the enemies' heads that initiates an instant counter. You'll have genuinely need to pay atten??tion to the battle at hand, learn the telegraphs (if there are any), and dodge on your own.

Stylish torture attacks return (which are tag-team att??acks with a partner), as do the big finale beast finis?hers and a lot of the classic abilities that made the first game so great. There's nothing better in gaming out right now than initiating a knockback move followed by a sprinting panther rushdown attack, then a juggle combo while triggering Witch Time after a quick dodge.

I??t not only plays great, but there's so much style involved in just about every animation. Dashing turns you into a panther, double-jumping allows you to sprout butterfly wings, hovering turns you into a crow. Everything from the snapshot "photo finish" effect of completing a challenge room is painstakingly detailed.

Control-wise, Bayonetta 2 exemplifies everything I love about the Wii U as a piece of hardware -- options. There's setups for the GamePad, touch controls, and the Pro Controller. There's four configurations of inputs in all, and Off-TV play is always on. I didn't think I'd be able to perform with precision using the GamePad as ??a controller back when the game was announced, but I'm loving it. That said, I wouldn't recommend touch controls outside of the novelty.

In terms of the story, it's just as cheesy as ever, with characters like the Joe Pesci look-alike Enzo returning in a bigger way. To give you an example, Enzo's penis almost gets grinded up by Jeanne's motorcycle about ten minutes i?n, and Rodin, dresse?d as Santa Claus, drives a car on the side of a building. Oh, and Bayonneta kicks a fighter jet flying at full speed with a Sunday dress on. The choreography looks like it was taken straight out of an over-the-top action movie, and it's all the better for it.

Bayonetta 2 doesn't linger whenever a new concept is introduced, which is a pretty big accomplishment since it's running on all cylinders throughout. Whether it's flying through the air in a special boss fight or piloting a mech, the game keeps you interested throughout its 12 chapters without re-using mechanics over and over. The level design is still reminiscent of Devil May Cry or God Hand in that its semi-open, allowing for a good deal of exploration ?and hidden treasures. The??re's also more underwater parts this time around -- don't worry, they're good.

It's clear to see that the series has gotten an upgrade visually on the Wii U, and the frame rate is very clean -- I had no issues with my playthrough. As I said earlier detail is the name of the game here, as a lot of enemies have organic armor that can rip off bit by bit as you're slashing away. Bayonetta's new look is also perfect, in the sense that it's familiar but also different enough to divorce itself from the original. As an added bonus you can also switch on Japanese audio if you're into that, and the jazzy soundtrack is even better than the first game's offering (Bayonetta 2's take on Moon River is among my favorite tracks).

The biggest addition is probably the "Tag Climax," which is a two-player mode that allows people to work in tandem while challenging each other to earn the highest score. You can bet "Halos" (the game's currency, which is linked to your campaign file) on whether or not you'll earn the highest amount of points, which also jacks up the difficulty. Bayonneta 2 allows you to select from a ??specific mission pool (called "Verse Cards") as well as from a pool of multiple charac??ters and costumes.

My favorite part of Tag Climax -- it has a CPU bot option! While many games completely forgo this mechanic that was once commonplace, Bayonneta 2 allows you to enjoy the mode even if none of your friends are online or you can't find anyone in the matchmaking system. This feature will come in handy years down the line when the onlin?e mo??de is dead and you still have the itch to play it.

Like the first game, there's also tons of extra content that's available right on the disc with no DLC needed. There's new difficulties, verse cards, characters, a crafting system, Miiverse functionality, and stamps. There's also single-player challenge rooms in the realm of Muspelheim, which are similar to Onimusha's dark realm. These are no joke, ??with modifiers like "only Witch Time attacks do damage" or "complete the challenge without getting hit."

To make it even tougher, you don't have a life bar in general -- you have a "hit meter" that decreases as you take even one bit of damage. The good news is that you can retry these as many times as you like until you best them. ?Oh, and there's also time trial races for extra chests, story fragments to find, and Rodin's shop is back for you to spend all your Halos in. It sports items, consumables, accessories, weapons, and moves to buy. You can even try out the moves beforehand. Unlike the first game, you can also opt for hard mode right out of the gate. Platinum basically thought of everything.

Although this review doesn't take the bonus free copy of Bayonetta 1 into account, anyone would agree that it's a massive incentive to take the plunge. The first game still holds up to this day, and with?? a consistent frame rate and a ton of extra costumes, it's definitely worth playing whether you've already completed it or are experiencing it for the very first time.

When Bayonetta came out in 2010, I thought it was nearly perfect. Four years later and Platinum hasn't lost its edge with Bayonetta 2. It's just as stylish and as fun as ever, and a must-buy for actio??n fans who own a Wii U.

'Ask for Mario and Zelda too'

As we draw closer to the international release date for Bayonetta 2, a lot of people continue to bring up the exclusivity deal. "Will we get it one day on other platforms," people ask constantly, hoping that one day it will see a re??lease outside of Wii U. Of course, producer Hideki Kamiya is there to shut those hopes and dreams down.

Speaking about the deal, Kamiya notes that if you want to see it on other platforms, "ask Nintendo" -??- implying tha??t there's no chance, and to "try asking for Mario and Zelda too." Check out the full quote below.

    Kamiya [Twitter via Nintendo Everything]

I think I have discussed this many times before but here goes… First of all, we [P?latinum Games] are developers and receive support from publishers by making games that they request or suggest.

As for Bayonetta, we develope??d the game after signing a deal with SEGA. Later it was decided to also develop the sequel, so we started working on Bayonetta 2.

When development had progressed to a certain degree, in SEGA’s situation it turned into “This isn’t a good plan&rdquo??;, so development halted temporarily.

Without funding we didn’t have the possibility to continue development, but we wanted to get this partially d??eveloped Bayonetta 2 available to the public one way or another. So we offered it to various publishers, but as it is a big title, we could?n’t find a partner company. Finally, Bayonetta 2 was about to get terminated completely, when…

Nintendo came in and lent a hand and we were able to restart the development? we so desired. Finally the game was released last week, so in five years, we were able to make Bayonetta 2 available to the public.

Knowing those circumstances, if someone is still angry for heading towards Nintendo, I wonder what’s the reason for that, wouldn’t you tell me in a w?ay that is easy to understand?

As I have said earlier, if you want Bayonetta 2 on PS4 or Xbox One, how about trying to ask Nintendo… If Ninte?ndo doesn’t say yes, i??t’s not going to happen… While you’re at it, try asking for Mario and Zelda too…

That snake part was crystal clear, though

Minor confession to make: I haven't played Bayonetta. Yeah, I hear it's good, but I just never got around to it. It happens. Heading into a quick hands-on session with Bayonetta 2, I figured my inexperience wouldn't matter much.

Wow, was I ever wrong. Now a few hours removed from the demo, my head's still spinning from trying to dis?cern exactly what the hell just happened.

I played chapter five, titled "Cathedral of Cas??cades," which started off with me transforming into a snake and swimming to land. I was incredibly good at this part, probably because it was impossible to screw up. Being the rock solid reporter that I am, I inquired as to whether Bayonetta can turn into any o??ther animals.

Did you know Bayonetta can transform into a fucking panther? Maybe I would've if I played the original, but seriously -- a goddamn panther. Needless to say, the next couple minutes were blocked off for panther dashing. That line of people behind me? I didn't care so much about them; they probably got lots of panther time in the fir??st game.

Once that novelty wore off, I continued with the demo and things got significantly more convoluted. Combat?? Yeah, I had no idea what I was doing. I eventually fell into a rhythm with the dodge button, and felt semi-competent despite the fact that I ?probably wasn't. I managed to rack up gold statuses on a few sections. That euphoria vanished immediately when the Nintendo representative told me that there are two rankings above gold. So, it's kind of a really fancy C-plus.

However, combat was the most intuitive thing in the world compared to the narrative. Cut scenes? They looked nice?, but it might as well have been in another language for as little sense as it made to me. Nintendo gave me a whole list of things that I can't mention in this preview, but it need not worry because I don't have a clue what any of those words mean anyway.

My massive heaps of ignorance aside, I had a good time with Bayonetta 2. Combat can be supremely satisfying when the pieces fall into place. The plot? Maybe it's good, I don't know. But, ?don't be concerned with all of that because you can transform into a sea snake and a panther. That's all that really matters.

This wasn't a very good preview.

    Finding the opposite of angels

Bayonetta 2 sound designer Daisuke Sakata touched on how he goes about designing sounds for his games in a recent post on the PlatinumGames blog. In particular, Sakata talks about the presence of both angel and demon enemies in Bayonetta 2, and how he created sounds for each.

He stated that the angelic sound??s were taken from the first game, as he had alrea?dy figured out his overall concept as to how angels should sound. His big challenge was figuring out what a demonic sound was, as those enemies were not in the first game.

Sakata stated that if angelic sounds c?ould be described as "sacred and divine," then he figured that demonic sounds would be best characterized by the opposite, with words like "profane and unholy." He said that he started from that concept and used those keywords as a guide.

Bayonetta 2 will be released in October for the Wii U and will include a copy of the original Bayonetta ported to Wii U with enhancements. There were no innuendos in this post, so here you go: Bayonetta 2 makes me feel profane and unholy.

    Roughly $50

Sega's music label Wave Master has announced that Bayonetta 2 will be getting a five-disc mega soundtrack, which is very much inline with Platinum Games' previous releases. It'll drop on October 29, and the lead composer (Masami Ueda) has worked on games such as Devil May Cry and Resident Evil in the past.

It'll be a pricey pa?ckage though, weighing in at 5??142 JPY ($50 approximately). I'd definitely be up for picking up a few discs on iTunes in the west.

After a ton of detective work, users around the 'net spotted a peculiar image from the Wii U's upcoming release of Bayonetta. Specifically, it showed a locket containing special costumes from Link, Samus, and Peach, but there was a suspicious fourth costume that looked a lot like Daisy's pendant from the Mario series.

Although speculation ran rampant, the Daisy costume is confirmed roughly three minutes into this E3 hands-on video from UK outlet NomComms. So while we ??haven't seen any hard footage ??of the outfit, we know that it exists -- although it doesn't rule out any more platform exclusive costumes.

You should never have to climax alone

Bayonetta 2 will be much more than just a solo affair. Nintendo has announced an additional cooperative mode known as "Tag Climax," which will allow two players to team up together and take on the many enemies in-game all for a bounty of Halos, Bayonetta 2's currency.

Players will be able to wager said Halos in quick matches, with winners taking their earnings and spending them in Story mode later on. Halos, like in the original Bayonetta, can be spent to purchase new accessories, weapon variations, and brand new techniques. So, with that said, who's playing Bayonetta 2 with me?

The publisher is thanked again for saving Bayonetta 2

Platinum Games producer JP Kellams recently spoke at UCF’s Center for Emerging Media, and reminded fans yet again that if it wasn't for Nintendo, Bayonetta 2 would not have existed.

Kellams outright states, "Without getting into some stuff that is both business and confidential, the simple question I’d like to ask you is, ‘Do you want to play Bayonetta 2?’ Bayonetta 2 would not exist without Nintendo white knighting that project. So while I totally understand that people want to play it on the platforms that they’ve played it on previously, we really wanted to make Bayonetta 2."

He goes on to say that fans have been angry, demanding a PS3 and 360 game, but Kellams just kept it cool, noting that the Wii U may not be for those people, but they think they made the right decision. I complete agree, because as Kellams says, "I’d rather be in a world with Bayonetta 2 than without."

All we know right now is that it supports two players

Bayonetta is one of my favorite action games of all time. Not only is it legitimately challenging even on hard mode (who would have thought), but it offers up that frame-perfect technical action you'd expect from a studio like Platinum Games, with a ton of weapon variety to boot.

Although we don't know much about Bayonetta 2, I'm still pretty excited given the team's pedigree, and the multiplayer mode has me intrigued. Going into 2014 and the inevitable release of more information on the sequel, I'm starting to wonder what Bayonetta would be like with another person.

    Competitive:

Astute Platinum fans will notice that the above screen is actually from Anarchy Reigns -- one of my favorite games of 2013. As a cross-promotion of sorts Bayonetta was implanted into the game, which features a good old-f??ashioned rumble-fest wit?h multiplayer arena combat.

This is easily how Bayonetta 2's multiplayer component could end up, as her inclusion in Anarchy could have been foreshadowing a full-on competitive mode for up to four players. Assuming that Nintendo and Platinum are able to get the game up and running online, both parties really need to address the immediate drop in the online community, a problem that plagued Anarchy Reigns.

With Nintendo at the helm and a bigger budget,?? they could work with Platinum to achieve a superior netcode, resulting in less dropped games. They could also collaboratively decide to cut down on the gametypes, so that players could easily jump into another session without ?too much trouble.

Nintendo showed their resolve by publishing Bayonetta 2, one of their only M-rated game??s on record. Now they can show that they have what it takes? to back up Platinum and provide a solid online experience with a hardcore action game.

    Co-op:

Playing nice is also an option, and co-op would easily work if Nintendo and Platinum decide to ditch online play entirely. I think this is the likely option for multiple reasons, including the ability to use the GamePad and a Wii U Pro Controller in tandem. Similar to Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, one player can use t??he GamePad as a screen while the other player gets free rein of the TV.

It would be perfect for ensuring that each player has an ample camera angle to perform their maneuvers, and very easy to engineer with only two players to account for, offline. In all likelihood this mode would feature Bayonetta and her rival Jeanne in a format similar to Dante's Inferno's Trials of St. Lucia mode, with both players ba??ttling off hordes of enemies.

While I wouldn't mind an "endless mode" to tackle with a friend, I think specific levels and waves would be ideal, and it would be consistent with Bayonetta's "grade" and ranking system. In short, it could implement concepts found in Ninja Gaiden's Ninja Trials mode, and present a "mini-st?ory" -- even if it was just clips of Bayonetta and Jeanne bickering.

Personally, I'd find a well designed co-op mode to be superior to the competitive option, especially since we already got a taste of it with Anarchy Reigns. A truly well ba?lanced co-op mode w??ith the same technical action from the core game would provide endless hours of entertainment for myself and another like-minded friend.

    Both?

Of course, this list is non-exhaustive, and doesn't spell out every option for Platinum Games -- just the more likely ones. It would be great if both of th??em were included, as well as local and online play. Leaderboards would also be perfect for either mode to add a friendly competitive element to them.

Either way, I'm hoping we hear more about Bayonetta 2 sooner than later.

    Umbran ... it's Umbran

The sheer spectacle of Bayonetta 2 has me on board for this Wii U exclusive, and that's to say nothing of the hair. Oh, that magnificent hair. It's everywhere!

It was getting late in our PAX Prime 2013 journey when Hamza and Jim recorded their thoughts on the new Platinum Games title, as you can probably tell, which is why their attempts to talk about the game resulted in strange words being uttered. The subject matter of Bayonetta 2 certainly wasn't making their job any easier.

    Very retro...

Bayonetta 2 will have a two-player mode, according to our own Hamza Aziz who is reporting a bit from a Nintendo event. Aside from the note that th??ere will be a lot more aerial combat in the game in ?general, there wasn't anything else to report.

Start speculating! How will Bayonetta 2's two-player mode work? Will it be Wii U gamepad focused? Maybe it will be like Sonic 2, entirely apropos of?? nothing (I was playing it on my Genesis last we?ek).

    It's looking good!

Nintendo finally showed off some of the Wii U exclusive Bayonetta 2 ?today during their Nintendo Direct, and it's looking great. Bayonetta has undergone a "major makeover" and now has a new hairstyle and costume. She also boasts some new abilities, which Nintendo will reveal more during the week of E3.

In other news,? a 2014 release date is confirmed, so you have a little while to prepare.
