At their E3 press conference, Microsoft showed a new trailer for their upcoming fantasy MMORPG, expected to launch on Xbox One later this year. A new trailer features a powerful sorceress, Elessara, making an epic journey through a series of deadly?? locales.

This is Black Desert Online, created in the "Black Desert" engine by developer Pearl Abyss. Available on PC for a few years now, the title is preparing for its console debut, an?d the Beta opens on Xbox One in Fall of this year.

For North America, Oceania, Europe*

Black Desert Online, the Korean MMO famed for its extravagant character creator, is launching in North America, Oceania, and some European regions on March 3, Daum Games announced today?.

Until then, prospective players can download the title's free standalone character creator, which allows users to import their?? handiwork into the main game and upcoming second beta test.

Speaking of which, that beta begins on February 18 and runs until February 22. For a chance to participate in the pre-release test you can register here or pre-??order one of the premium packages, which run from $50 to $100 -- as opposed to the $30 base game, for guaranteed access. 

In case you're wondering why Black Desert Online is only launching in some European territories on March 3, other countries including Ukraine, the Balti??c States, Belarus, Georgia and Armenia, am??ongst others, are locked into the Russian servers, which along with the Korean and Japanese versions of the game are based around free-to-play schemes and have different publishers.

Character creator out now, beta Feb 18

Did you miss Black Desert Online’s first English-language beta test? If so, I have some good ne?ws for you, as Daum Games has announced that a second and final beta test will be kicking off February 18.

For tho?se who’ve already pre-ordered the Explorer’s or Conqueror’s packages, you will already be given access to the test. Otherwise, sign-ups will open up early next month. More information, such as how long it will last and what changes have been made since the ??first test, will be announced closer to the time.

One of the big selling points of Black Desert is its ridiculously detailed character creator. Your charac?ter can almost be modelled like clay, with everything from the size of your left earlobe to the shininess of your forehead able to be tweaked and twisted.  

Last time I wrote about Black Desert, there were a few comments wishing that a standalone version of the character ??creator would be released, and so Daum Games has done just that.

A free, standalone version of the character creator can be downloaded from the Black Desert website, and any character you make in it can be imported ??into the game itself if you happen to get attached to any of your creations.

In my preview, I said that Black Desert has a lot of potential. Its gorgeous visuals and solid combat were marred by the sometimes annoyingly fiddly character creator and quests which devolved into simply going ?to a place and killing X amount of Y. I really hope this second beta shows some improvement because it could be an incredibly fun MM??O if they pull it off.

Haha, I want to play it

You may recognize the name Black Desert from its insanely detailed character creation tool. At this point th?ough my interest has transcended mere avatar construction, and I want to play the damn thing.

My interest has been further piqued by this King of Fighters promotion, which brings in a Mai costume into the fold. It will be added in by way of an in-game cash?? shop (read: microtransactions) later this month on November 11. A North American edition is confirmed for 2016, but you will have to buy the game, thus it will not be ??completely free-to-play.

New business model for the 2016 release

You may not know Black Desert Online by name, but you might recognize its impressive character creator; that Tom Cruise lookalike makes me laugh to this day. The game itself, a mas?sively multiplayer action-RPG, has been playable in Korea and Russia for a while now.

It's coming to North America and Europe in "early 2016," but not as a free-to-play or subscription-based release. In the West, Black Desert Online will have a price tag.

"Players will buy the game once and can purchase vanity and convenience items," according to publisher D?aum Games, who also says "content and gameplay systems will be adjusted to accommodate Western players and our differentiating bu?siness model."

As someone primarily interested in screwing around with the character editor, I would have been okay with t?he free-to-play model in theory. We'll see how much Daum ends up charging.

Oh, good -- another chance to talk about Black Desert and reuse this Tom Cruisian image.

The cool-looking MMORPG and its remarkable character creator will be available to North American and European audiences in 2015, developer Pearl Abyss has confirmed with a fansite. ?Daum Games, the title's publisher in Korea, will also be involved ?with the Western release.

I'm on board for the character editor. Will I actually use my gorgeous creation? Hard to say.

Oh my god, this is great

Black Desert may never see a release in the West, but that's not going to stop me from geeking out over its extensive character creator, perhaps the best I've ever encountered.

Actually, scratch that qualifier. Now that I've s??een those goofy expressions starting at around 0:40, it is the best, no doubt about it. And before you ask -- yes, I took screencaps.

As nauseating as the ensuing footage of Black Desert's fast-paced, hack-and-slash action was, I watched the whole thing?; I couldn't look away! My PC would cry fiery tears trying to run this.

A good look at the gameplay!

Black Desert is that game with that amazing character creation system. And it's a game I never expected to ever get excited over with it being a MMORPG. I don't have the time of day to invest in one, yet here I am looking forward to the day Black Desert gets a Western release (if ever, really).

Until then, here's a new video that sho??ws off a ton of gameplay. Not going to lie, it's kind of ridiculous the amount of pop-in and other technical issues that are shown off in the video. Nuts ?that this was ever cleared for public viewing. Well, if it's an actual legit trailer from the team and not something fan created. In any case, I'm just posting it to highlight the mountable war elephants.

Highly realistic characters from MMO Black Desert

Black Desert is an upcoming Korean MMORPG and that sentence is usually more than enough to get a majority of people to start tuning out. That is until you watch this video, showing off the? game's amazing character creator system.

You ??can alter seemingly every aspect of your character, creating highly detailed male and female avatars. I really don't care what the MMORPG plays like now, I just?? want to mess around in that character creator system and create whatever I wanted. Forget the realistic aspect too, just imagine all the warped things this system can provide.
