Nintendo just announced a brand new bundle for the Switch OLED that isn’t simply another Mario Kart package. The bundle goes on sale November 19, just in time for Black ??Friday shopping.

The new Switch OLED includes Super Smash Bros. Ultimate via digital download and three months of Nintendo Switch Online. The Black Friday deal runs at $349.99, saving you about $67.98 around the cost of a new ga??me if you're lo??oking to add more to the pile.

If the OLED model isn't what you're looking for, Nintendo's also got deals on the Switch Lite. Two new Animal Crossing bundles join the console lineup in time for the holiday season, including a pink Isabelle Aloha Edition and a turquoise Timmy and Tommy A??loha Edition. Isabelle's bundle is a Shopper's Drug Mart exclusive, while Timmy and Tommy editions are only?? available at Walmart. Both are $259.96.

Nintendo's Black Friday deals include more than a system bundle, too. Price cuts on games include $25 off The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Luigi's Mansion 3, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe. You can grab some older heavy hitters for $30 off, including Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, Super Mario Odyssey, and Metroid Dread.

With holiday shopping deals revving up for Black Friday, Nintendo has its full list of offers up on its official hub. If you're among those just itching to dive into Super Mario RPG though, that's a sale for a Nintendo sometime in the far, far future. Aside from a few pre-order bonuses, you're stuck paying full price and maybe reading our hands-on experience with the remake while you wait.

Sale news from you-know-know

[Update: The PlayStation Plus sale is now live, with a catalog of discounted games a??nd the 12-month PlayStation Plus offer. The sale will end? November 28.]

The dedicated king of PlayStation Plus leaks, Dealabs author billbil-kun, has suggested that the black-and-blue brand is preparing to offer a meaty 25% discou?nt on its range of PS Plus paid subscription services The discount is expected to arrive as part of the forthcoming Black Friday madness.

According to the veteran PS leaker, PlayStation users will be able to pick up 12-month PlayStation Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium subscriptions at a quarter of their original price, provided that they are bagged between November 18-28. As a quick refresher, Essential offers?? monthly free titles and online capabilities, Extra throws in access to a catalog of rotating titles, while Premium users also receive access to the PlayStation Classics range, as well as exclusiv??e demos and trials.

With a 25% di?scount included, PlayStation owners can expect the following prices in the rum??ored offer:

  • PlayStation Plus Essential (12 Month) - $44.99 / â‚?4.99 / £37.49
  • PlayStation Plus Extra (12 Month) â€?$74.99 / â‚?4.99 / £62.99
  • PlayStation Plus Premium (12 Month) â€?$89.99 / â‚?9.99 / £74.99

Admittedly, in financially toug??h times such as these, 80 buckeroos for a gaming subscription is still a?? pretty hefty ask. But if you're the type of player to burn through games with reckless abandon, then having access to a constantly rotating catalog of releases across 2023 will, ultimately, pay for itself.

Of course, there is no official word the deal is definitely happening. But, given Dealabs consistent accuracy when revealing PlayStat?ion Plus titles, this Black Fri??day discount rumor can probably be filed under "concrete".

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe bundle a smash seller

While the Black Friday weekend typically brings with it a few smashed sales records, it seems no one publisher did better than Nintendo, as far as the UK is concerned. For the week endin??g November 27, Nintendo Switch had its single most successful UK sales week ever, with an eye-ca??tching in-store offer leading to an enormous increase in hardware sales.

The offer in question saw customers pick up a Nintendo Switch console, a digital copy of mega-seller Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and a three-month Switch Online subscription for £259.99. This specific deal accounts for a solid 54% of all Nintendo Switch sales in the region for that week, leading to a 22% increase in Nintendo hardware sales when compared to the same week last year. Factor i?n Nintendo's game and accessories sales for the same time period, and Christmas came early for the publisher.

"Only Switch had an exceptional week, PS5 and Xbox Series did not have many offers and actually PS5 Digital was out of stock and Series X had a major stock drop the week prior," said GfK statistician Dorian Bloch in comments to GamesIndustry.biz. "In 2020, both had massive launch weeks [which were the weeks immediately before Black Frida?y] and therefore both had very low stock ??for Black Friday week."

Amusingly, the success of the Nintendo Switch bundle offer was enough to see Mario Kart 8 Deluxe return to the number one spot of this week's UK charts. As regular readers will be aware, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a UK chart veteran retaining a Top Ten position almost every week, (with a few mino?r exceptions), since its original release way back in spring 2017.

The frugal gamer's lament

Black Friday is always a day that I have to tell myself to be strong. I can and have gotten carried away with bargain buys in the past, filling up digita??l carts with games, movies, and books, most of which I would never find time? to enjoy before flipping them on eBay. As a single man with zero financial obligations to anyone else, it can be easy to let myself go spend-crazy around the holidays only to stare in horror at my Discover bill come the first week of January.

So I gotta remain strong, and that’s doubly important this year. I am happy to say that I ?am just ??three weeks away from making a massive lump-sum payment that will completely wipe out my student loan debt. I’ve been meandering on paying that off for too long, and with the COVID holiday on payments ending in February, I figure I should finally rid myself of that debt. Unfortunately, I made this decision in September and have had to be very frugal over the past three months. But I’ve managed to make it work by only spending money on the bare essentials like food, rent, and Metroid Dread. You know, the things in l?ife you need to surv?ive.

I was worried that Black Friday might throw those plans for a loop, that the big, massive sales on games might pit the responsible side of my brain against the irresponsible side. But as I watched @Wario64 tweet about every goddamn game going on sale this week, I realized I didn’t have to worry all that much. Why? Because all the biggest sales and massive price drops are pretty much reserved for physical copies and I made the decision to go all-digital this generation.

Judgment Black Friday price

Right now, all of the digital storefronts are having their own Black Friday sales and there are some pretty decent markdowns, even on games that are not even a month old. To these storescredit, they’ve done a pretty good job of matching what many of their games are selling for at retail. As an example, the Nioh Collection for PS5 was about $39 whether you bought it at the PS store or Amazon. Returnal and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart are two other?? titles that were selling for about an equal price whether you got them physically or digitally.

For some games, the price gap was minimal, like the five-dollar difference in cost between the retail and digital versions of Deathloop or Far Cry 6. Other games, however, had a far larger gulf between the physical and digital editions. Riders Republic, for instance, was marked down to $40 on the PlayStation and Xbox stores while Amazon was selling physical copies for $25. Amazon also had Guardians of the Galaxy for $25 while its digital counterpart went for $39. If you wanted Resident Evil Village on the cheap, Best Buy listed it at? $20 before selling out?? while both Sony and Microsoft stores had it for $30.

And then there are games that aren’t even going on sale digitally but are getting pretty big discounts physically. The PS5 version of Judgment wasn’t part of its Black Friday sale, but Amazon was selling it for 50% off. The same goes for NEO: The World Ends with You, which Best Buy had for $30 on PS4 but was the full price on the PS Store. A game like Rainbow Six: Siege Deluxe Edition had an even bigger discount at retail with Best Buy asking just $10 for the game while Sony had it for $40 (it was on sale for the same price at the Microsoft store). None of those, however, compared to the discount Walmart was having on new copies of Nier Replicant. It didn’t go on sale on either digital storefront, but for a few ??days over the extended holiday weekend, you could get it at Walmart for $15. If you missed that doorbuster, Best Buy had it for $30, which was still half of what PS or Xbox were charging.

When I decided to get all-digital versions of the current-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles, I told myself it was a matter of convenience. And I have to say, compared to my Switch, where I still have a lot of physical games, it is very convenient. I like being able to switch out my games just by pressing some buttons on my controller, instead of having to get up, remove the copy of No More Heroes III from my console, insert the copy of Ring Fit Adventure, exercise, eject the copy of Ring Fit Adventure, and reinsert the copy of No More Heroes III. And yeah, I kno?w how much of a first-world problem this all sounds ??like.

Nier Replicant Black Friday

But at least with my Switch, I have options. I can choose to preorder a physical copy be??cause it comes with a cool aluminum case, or I can choose the convenience of digital. With my Xbox Series S and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, I’ve removed those choices from the equation, and I’m going to have to get used to the fact that some games I want to play are always going to be cheaper as a disc versus a download. I’m going to have to get used to the fact that there’s no point in browsing the discount bins at stores anymore or keeping my GameFly account around. I thought it would be easy to let those things go when I made this decision??, but the truth is, I miss retailer sales and being able to rent games.

It’s not cheap being a games wri????ter. You’re expected to play most of the big-name titles each year to keep your writing topical. But for those of us who write for a mid-sized publication, playing those games means opening up our own pocketbook. Xbox Game Pass makes it a lot easier for my Series S, but until PlayStation Now starts adding new games the same day they hit retail, keeping hip to all the trending games will remain an expensive endeavor.

I guess what I’m trying to say i?s, if you have yet to buy a current-gen console, maybe avoid going the digital-only route as I did. Because nothing is stopping you from treating a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X like a digital console if that’s what you want. But don’t close yourself out of the option of getting physical media. You might just end up saving a lot of money in the long run if you keep the possibility of retail discs open.

All I want for Christmas... is the following

My favorite thing about the Christmas season is receiving gifts. That hasn’t changed since I was a kid. Shopping is horrible, family is an uncomfortable reality (I’m joking, don’t disow??n me), and I lost the ability to feel cheer after an experiment gone wrong. So, make my December, show me how well you know? me and bring me a gift.

I also know that retro hobbyists aren’t the easiest to shop for. Our collections are a minefield. A 3DO Interactive Multiplayer would be a great gift for the lover of the ob??scure, but do they own one already? FZ-1, FZ-10, or Goldstar?

As a retro hobbyist myself, I’ve got your back. You’ll still need?? to know a bit about your target gift-receiver’s setup, but I can save you from digging through the second-hand and collector markets. All the items listed here should ??be obtainable either through company storefronts or just online stores like Amazon.

Just to note, this retro gift guide isn’t a sponsored art?icle. No companies mentioned here have tossed any compensation my way nor is Destructoid affiliated with them or any of the linked storefronts.

Gift Everdrive

Everdrive

If ye be thinking I’m promotinpiracy, ye be out of yer crows nest. An Everdrive is a cartridge that works in original consoles that allows you to slot in an SD card and play games off of it. Effectively, yeah, you can throw a console’s entire library on there and play everything, but ?it has uses beyond getting cheap access to games while still keeping the authenticity of playing on an original console.

The homebrew and ROMhacking scene is one that keeps getting bigger, year after year, and few consoles haven’t been touched by tinkering hands. Heck, there are homebrew Atari Lynx and Virtual Boy games floating around. While most of these you can just jam into an emulator, nothing beats playing something like Goldfinger 64 in the way that nature intended. Need a Japanese Famicom game translated to English, but you want to play it on your NES? An Everdrive is a good method of doing so. Do you have a ROM hack that only feels right on an N64 controller, such as Waluigi’s Taco Stand 64? Shine on, you crazy diamond.

Gift Retro-Bit Genesis

Modern Controller for Classic Consoles

Getting controllers for old consoles can be a pain. New, boxed versions are tough to come by, and when buying second-hand, you have to be wary of things like gamer gunk and other wear and tear. Don't gift out gamer gunk. Rounding up an extra four Turbografx controllers so you can play five-player Bomberman 3 can be an endeavor. Thankfully, the market is rife with rep??roduction c?ontrollers.

Honestly, this one requires a bit of research because there are so many out there. All of them can seem identical at a glance, and some of them literally are with a different brand name slapped on. However, things like button spring and firmness vary from one to another. If an analog stick is involved, such as with N64 controllers, things get a little bit more complicated. Some people are really particular abou?t how closely ??the stick performs to the original.

Even specific brands can vary in quality between their controllers, so just because Retro-bit did a great job on the new Genesis and Saturn controllers doesn’t mean that the quality is there across the board. There are a lot of options out there including more ergonomic N64 controllers (including “Tributesto the legendary Japanese-only Hori controllers) and other variations, just make sure yo?u do your research before plunking down your cash on something.

Gift 8BitDo Controller

Classic Controllers for Modern Consoles

Do you or your best retro gamer friend have a favorite controller? For 2D games, it has to be the SNES controller for me. Solid, light, and sporting a solid d-pad. For years I just used a USB adapter and a Super Famicom controller, but then I got tired of fiddling with JoyToKey and went for something a little more advanced. I picked up the 8BitDo SF30 Pro (discontinued, but here's the current equivalent), a wireless controller mo?deled after my beloved Super Famicom, but sporting dual analog and an extra set of shoulder buttons. This means I don’t have to worry about compatibility because it supports Xinput, Dinput, and even works on Switch.

You can generally find a USB version of any classic controller on the market, but like their classic compatible counterparts, quality can vary. If you don’t feel like taking a chance, you can also get USB adapters. While this typically enables you to just plug them into a PC and use Dinput, these days you can find all sorts of support for modern consoles out there. There are even adapters that allow you to plug modern controllers into classic systems.

If you’re feeling really brave, 8BitDo sells kits to modify official controllers to connect through Bluetooth. Then you can grab an NES or SNES adapter and plug them into the original hardware, letting ??you cut the cord for good?.

Gift RetroTINK

Upscalers

Retro consoles look like crap on modern televisions. Worse yet, input lag is created by the TV’s pathetic attempt to upscale lower resolutions, so games like Punch-Out!! become practically impossible to play. If you or your retro gaming friend feel ?like tinkering, there is a solution using video upscalers.

For years, the only player in the game was the XRGB line by Micomsoft; most famously the Framemeister??. There was an announcement a number of years ago that production was being stopped on them, but as of writing?, they’re still available. Yes, they’re actually more than $600, and no, that’s not because of scalping.

Nowadays, however, there are alternatives, the two most popular being Open Source Scan Converter and RetroTINK. Both are much, much cheaper than the Framemeister and require less tinkering to get the perfect image. At the same time, that also means you have less ?options for tweaking things like the Sega Master System’s finicky sync, but I feel the cost ?makes up for it.

Regardless of what you get, you will need to make some adjustments. To get the best video image, you may need to get a SCART cable for each system you want to upscale. A lot of older systems support this out of the box, but again, this requires research and maybe even some modifications in the case of systems like the N64. Just keep in mind, it’s not only a cost investment, it’s also a time investment. Still, ask any retro hobbyist and they’ll either tell yo??????????????????????????u an upscaler is absolutely essential, or they’ll look down their nose at you and tell you to get a CRT.

Specialized HDMI adapters can make for a great retro gift

HDMI Adapters

Modern TVs are transitioning away from older inputs all the time. I don’t remember the last one I saw with S-Video. It’s even possible to find some that only support HDMI, and that's probably going to become the norm in decades to come. This means that middle-aged consoles like the GameCube or PS2 are left by the wayside. It’s pretty easy to find composite to HDMI adapters, or you can give the gift of cleaner cables there are also options fo??r most consoles that plug directly into their video port.

The GameCube has a very special option. Natively, it supports 480p but required an extra cable for component out. It was proprietary, very specialized, and made in limited quantities. As a result, it became incredibly expensive on the aftermarket. After some work by the community, the cable was eventually reverse-engineered, and this enabled the creation of HDMI adapters like the GCHD. The new MKII adapter even features a port for the Wii’s SCART cable, which means you can hook it up to an upscaler for an even better image.? Just be aware that the digital-out port was removed from later models of the GameCube, and that is necessary for a lot of the?se HDMI adapters.

Jaguar

New Games for Old Consoles

So, what gift do you get for the gamer that has everything? You can ask what games they’re hunting for, then search the aftermarket, or you can find?? something that they’ve never even considered. Something like a brand new game for their old consoles.

As mentioned, the Homebrew market continues to grow as the years go by. What started as people soldering new ROMS into old consoles has blossomed into something that looks like the days of third-party NES cartridges. Now, there are actual publishers for homebrew developers to put their work out through. Companies like Mega Cat Studios and the longstanding AtariAge and RetroUSB frequently update their catalogs with titles that work on systems like the Atari 2600, NE??S, SNES, and Sega Genesis.

You can also get reproduction cartridges at a number of shady dealers online. Just be careful, however. Some might be perfectly happy with a counterfeit EarthBound, but other gamers might feel like they’re playing a lie??.

Sega Genesis/32X/CD

Power Options

I’m not sure if it’s a sign of my old age, but I still get excited when I see a fancy power strip. Lots of outlets, good spacing for AC adapters, battery back-up, USB ports, USB-C ports! No matter how happy I am with my surge? protector, there’s always something better out th??ere.

AC adapters for consoles can be tough to come by, and you have to be careful when buying aftermarket power supplies to ensure that they match the output of the original and won’t damage a console. That's not to say that all of them are bad, but you may need to read up on them first. At the same time, the original isn’t always a good idea, either. Take for example the old Commodore 64 power supplies. They were cheaply made and the voltage regulator has a habit of failing, essentially killing your C64 with a power spike. This is where the aftermarket comes in, just make sure you do your research before buying.

What would really make the Christmas of any dyed-in-the-wool retro gamer, however, is an all-in-one Genesis/32X/CD power supply. Anyone who owns the entire Sega stack can tell?? you it’s a pain to set up. Each individual component has its own adapter, which is a lot of real estate on a power strip. Thankfully, someone stepped in and cleane??d up the squid.

Aka the Black Friday Steam sale

Right on cue (thanks for the advance notice, Valve!), the Steam Autumn Sale started today and it'll continue running until 10:00 a.m. Pacific on Wednesday, December 1.

Nowadays, with Steam really leaning into personalized recommendations, it's a storefront where you're usually better served with diligent wishlist upkeep. (Says the guy who basically never wishlists anything, even cool games he's bound to ??forget about.) All the same, I like to throw out any ideas I can, and here are some deals that stood out to me.

Steam Autumn Sale 2021 recommendations

Please hurl your best niche and/or under????-the-radar picks you've got in the comments!

My favorite "I'm glad I waited for a Black Friday sale" game so far has been Deathloop, which really hooked me even as someone who has struggled to click with Dishonored before. I kept putting it off thinking the positive buzz would?n't necessarily apply to m?e, yet I ended up binging the game in a weekend. It's, uh, not that short! But I loved its vibe.

If the timing is?n't right, or your wishlisted games aren't quite hitting the prices you have in mind, there's one more major Steam sale the Winter Sale sl?ated for December 22.

You may also want to poke your head into the Steam Awards. The nomination process is now open to the public, with categories ranging from Game of the Year, to Labor of Love, ??to Best Soundtrack??, and there's even a Sit Back And Relax Award don't mind if I do!

The eShop Black Friday sale is here

Nintendo kept us waiting, but here they are: the Nintendo Switch Cyber Deals just went live on the eShop. If you were holding out for discounts on digital Switch games for Black Friday, this is your sale. It's running until 11:59 p.m. Pacific on Tuesday, November 30.

Note that once you flip to the landing page, the Cyber Deals continue past that first group of featured games there are more publisher-specific groupings below, and even more deals that spill over to the searchable eShop database. There's also the unofficial resource Deku Deals, which ?is the go-to f??or figuring out which discounts are new lows.

These are some of the best Nintendo Switch Cyber Deals

I did my best to mostly highlight Switch games that?? are at their cheapest-ever digital prices (or close to it), but there are several newer games sprinkled in that have better Black Friday deals with their physical copies at retailers like GameStop and Amazon.

We live in a world where first-party Nintendo games like Kirby Star Allies and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe are $39.99 physically (or cheaper!) and $41.99 digitally on the eShop. As someone wh?o hates swapping out Switch carts and usually prefers the convenience of a digital c??opy barring storage hogs, I just have to shake my head and laugh sometimes.

With Guardians of the Galaxy, both digital standard and deluxe editions of the game will be discounted 35% off. "Further, players in the US or Canada who purchase Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will be able to enjoy one free month of Disney+ after signing up and linking their Square Enix Members account," Square Enix says. Nintendo's Black Friday deals for Switch hardware and games are live

Nintendo has given shoppers a heads-up about what to expect from 2021's Nintendo Switch Black Friday deals, and oh my goodness, they're doing it again they're rolling out the $300 Nintendo Switch and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe bundle that we've seen for years.

I'm not complaining, mind you it's just a bit funny. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a freaky force of nature that continues to sell super well, and if you're going to buy a Nintendo Switch for the first time in 2021, you're probably gonna want Mario Kart to go along with it.

Apart from the pack-in game and the normal Switch console with a dock (not the newest and priciest OLED model), this bundle has a three-month subscription for Nintendo Switch Online (not the new Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack tier). Simple, but effective.

In terms of physical games, Black Friday (or should I say the days surrounding Black Friday) will bring a $20 off discount for select Nintendo Switch titles.

Nintendo will have deals starting November 21 at participating retailers, and there will also be a Nintendo eShop sale on digital games, though the timing isn't announce??d yet.

Nintendo Switch deals for Black Friday 2021

**GameStop currently has physical and digital Switch games for $26.99**
$300 Nintendo Switch console bundle
Nintendo Switch physical games are $40 instead of $60
Ring Fit Adventure is $55 instead of $80
Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit is $60 instead of $100

Nintendo says that Black Frida?y deals will last until November 27, or until supplies run out.

Definitely try and scoop up Ring Fit Adventure at that price if you're interested I can't guarantee that you'll stick with it, but I can guarantee that it's a great game in its own right. You will feel the burn. Mario Kart Live is pretty fun and novel at that price too.

Much like the equivalent PlayStation Store Black Friday sale, we've hit the sweet spot on several recent big-publisher releases already getting a nice? 3??0-percent-or-so discount.

There are over 900 deals to sift through, so it's worth referencing your wishlist, searching for specific games, and using the Xbox store's filtering to whittle it all down. As you can s?ee from some of my picks, a handful of Xbox 360 games are in the sale if you're hoping to rekindle some old memories with backward compatibility. And there are PC games, too.

Xbox's digital Black Friday sale began this week and it ends on Friday, December 3.

Beyond that, Microsoft says it will have 40 percent off three-month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions (from November 22-30 at select retailers) and $20 off certain Xbox controllers like Carbon Black, Sh?ock Blue, and Robot White (also from Nov. 22-30).

We're a week? away from Black Friday and I'm already spent?? with all of these deals.

Basically, PlayStation Diect is a good indicator of what other places might have listed ??for physical PS4 and PS5 games for Black Friday (in case you have a preferred retailer).

The PlayStation Gear Store will also have 20 percent off with the code "BLACKFRIDAY20" if you're into any of the usual apparel or merch that Sony sells for th??e popula?r IPs.

Separate from the PlayStation Black Friday sale, the store is currently hosting over a thousand deals with a super-wide-ranging PlayStation Indies sale until December 1.

To list off some quick highlights from that sale, there's Risk of Rain 2 ($9.99), The Eternal Cylinder ($22.49), Outer Wilds: Echoes of the Eye ($11.99), Tails of Iron ($19.99), KeyWe ($18.74), Cozy Grove ($11.24), Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl ($34.99), The Pathless ($23.99), Chernobylite ($23.99), Vacation Simulator ($19.49), and They Are Billions ($8.99).

I am afraid I'm going to spend way too much loading up on PS5 games.

Target is also hosting a multi-game sale with recent releases ahead of Black Friday mania

Here's a pre-Black Friday deal you might've missed: Amazon is running a "Get three for the price of two" sale in multiple categories, including physical games on Nintendo Switch, PS4??, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It's a chance to stock up on 2021 titl??es.

There's a wide range of valid games for this promo

  • Call of Duty: Vanguard
  • Just Dance 2022
  • Madden NFL 22
  • Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy
  • Hot Wheels Unleashed
  • Far Cry 6
  • FIFA 22
  • NBA 2K22
  • Riders Republic
  • Resident Evil Village
  • NHL 22
  • Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania
  • Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1+2

  • Dying Light Platinum Edition
  • Demon's Souls
  • It Takes Two
  • Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade
  • Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory
  • The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes
  • Life is Strange: True Colors
  • Sackboy: A Big Adventure

  • The Silver Case 2425
  • Lost Judgment
  • Doki Doki Literature Club Plus!
  • Guilty Gear Strive

This isn't the full list jus??t a selection of some of the ?more popular games.

As one possible "buy three for two" scenario, I could get Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, Life is Strange: True Colors, and NieR Replicant for a total of $119.98, which is $54.90 off.

There's a search bar that's specific to this Amazon physical game sale, so if you've got your eye on a game that you don't see after scrolling around, it doesn't hurt to seek it out. ?The main thing to note is that the prices on certain games aren't as low as they probably should be, so you may have to do a little legwork to get the most bang for your buck.

It's fairly easy to rotate items in and out (to make sure everything applies) before pushing your chosen games to your Amazon cart to see the final savings pop up. You'll need to go through most of the checkout process before the "multibuy discount" is applied.

If you'd rather try your bargain-hunting luck elsewhere, Target is also hosting a "buy two, get one free" promo on physical vid??eo games ahead of Black Friday 2021.

It's only the second we??ek of November and I'm alread?y losing track of who's doing what with video game deals, to say nothing of the time we need to find to even play this stuff.

Even if you aren't proactively hunting down Black Friday gaming deals, it's still worth popping over to the Epic Games Store this week to claim MudRunner – a sim game about trudging through "untamed landscapes" with big burly vehicles while it's completely free until Thursday, December ??3.

That's the same day the Epic Game Store's Black Friday sale will come to a close.

What looks good? Watch Dogs: Legion ($44.99) is already 25% off a month after launch. There's also Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 ($29.99), Ghostrunner ($23.99), Anno 1800 ($19.79), Crysis Remastered ($19.49), Ooblets ($19.99), Tetris Effect ($23.99), Saints Row: The Third Remastered ($27.99), Journey to the Savage Planet ($14.99), Wattam ($11.99), Maneater ($23.99), and Huntdown ($11.99).

Every time there's a sale, I try to take stock of the timed exclusives – and I'm usually surprised by the results. If you're coming at this from a similar mindset, Game Watcher has a solid running list.

Next week's free Epic Store game will be Cave Story+ of all things. It's an unforgettable adventure.

The sale ends on December 1 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific

It's that time of year again: the time when we stuff ourselves with discounted PC games and too much food. The 2020 Steam Autumn Sale began today with thousands of deals ??running until December 1.

From the looks of the best-sellers list, people are going hard on Crusader Kings III ($39.99), Titanfall 2 ($9.89), Halo: The Master Chief Collection ($25.99), Hades ($19.99), We Happy Few ($9.89), Marvel's Avengers ($29.99), and Star Wars: Squadrons ($23.99). Some interesting choices! Recent viral hits like Among Us ($3.99) and Phasmophobia ($12.59) are also ??represented, albeit with smaller savings.

This isn't a new feature or even a new thought, but I have to say, I love that Steam allows gift-giving and it's wild to me that the console storefronts still haven't followed suit. Let me be nice, okay?

If you're good on games, you may still want to hit up Steam anyway – the nomination process has begun for the 2020 Steam Awards. As usual, users can nominate their favorites from Game of the Year to Labor of Love to the "Best Game You Suck At." That last one is a person?al favorite of mine. There are also two new awards to mull over: Best Soundtrack and the "Sit Back and Relax" award.

Voting will open next month, during th??e Winter Sale, and the winners will surface on January 3.

The most reliable discounts year after year

I can go years and y??ears without a single video game Black Friday sale grabbing me. Sometimes it's a bunch of games I'm not interested in anymore, even if they're steeply discounted. Sometimes it's a bunch of games I was never interested in in the first place.

Here's something I make sure to do every Black Friday, though: I buy a new controller??. Sales on controllers come around literally every Black Friday, and they're almost always the exact same -- usually about $?20 off the normal retail price.

Which brings us to this controller sale which is... $20 off the normal retail price! Best Buy is selling X??box Series X controllers ??for $40, down from the usual $60. If you want that snazzy blue one, it'll run you $45. It's th?e kind of sale you can set your watch to.

Me? I think I'm grabbing a couple. I play Rocket League very aggressivel?y, and the shoulders and sticks don't hold up for an entire year. Black Friday's the best time to stock up. There will certainly be more cont?roller sales in the coming days. Best Buy has the best discounts right now, though.

The prices aren't all that great, but the games sure are

It's the classic Nintendo eShop sale conundrum: the prices aren't super competitive, but the games? The games rule. They're compelling enough to tempt me into spending ??more than I really ought to right now.

The Cyber Deals page is up with eShop deals ??from Nintendo, Capcom, Sega, Supergiant, Devolver Digital, 2K, and lots of smaller labels and indie creators. They're running through December 2, 2020.

That's the big overview, anyway – there are well over a thousand deals on the eShop. If you're feeling overwhelmed and want to browse with more granularity, I'd suggest Deku Deals as another resource.

Should I buy Hades again on Switch? Maybe. It would be nice to have it ready to go when PC cross-saves are supported. Should you get Curse of the Moon 2? I think so. I really do. It came and went.

Nintendo's Blac??k Friday sale is basically a chance to catch up (except we never, ever will).

Fingers crossed

If you don't already have a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X pre-ordered by now, you probably have to just accept the fact that you're not getting one on launch day. That's the unfortunate reality of new-gen fever. Maybe -- if you're quick and lucky and punctual and seriously very lucky -- you can get one shortly thereafter.

Best Buy has released its Black Friday deals, and the paper ad spills the beans on an upcoming restock for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.?? Limited quantities will be made ava??ilable online.

Now here's the tricky part: It doesn't say when the "Out of Stock" button gets its Cinderella moment and turns in?to an "Add to Cart" button. It's a Black Friday deal and it's in the flier that's going in Thanksgiving Day newspapers. You have to think it's sometime actually on Black Friday. Still, we don't know the exact time, and that's a very crucial detail considering the inventory will last minutes at most.

All hope isn't quite yet lost when it comes to getting a next-gen console before 2020's over. You'll just need to be extremely diligent. Sending good vibes your way that you??????????????????????????'re lucky enough to get ??to that "Add to Cart" button before it turns back into a pumpkin.

'More pre-Black Friday sale events than ever before'

Employees of big box? retailers in the United States are generally subjected to the same annual Thanksgiving routine: Do all the family stuff early in the day because they're off to work in the evenings. The Black Friday creep gets earlier and earlier every year, as each store tries to set the pace f??or how soon people can shop their sales.

In a bit of refreshing news, GameStop employees will have the full Thanksgiving holiday free this year. GameStop has revealed?? its Black Friday-centric plans, ??and it includes all stores in the United States being closed on Thanksgiving.

There are likely a couple strategic reasons for the closure. GameStop has announced that it'll host "more pre-Black Friday sale events than ever before," although it hasn't revealed any of the deals yet. Also, with the pandemic very ?much still in progress, GameStop is probably (rightly) predicting that in-store traffic will be lower than during normal years. All the hustle and bustle of jam-packed consumerism isn't as cute when there's a contagious virus on the loose.

It's the right outcome, especially from a company who has a very recent history of doing the wrong thing. In March, GameStop circulated an internal memo to employees directing them to refuse compliance with local orders to shut down at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The reasoning was that GameStop and all its video game hardware and software should be classified as "essenti??al reta?il."

The logic seems to be that GameStop is hoping to spread sales out over a longer timeline rather than just chasing a spike on Black Friday. We'll see if it can resist putting all of its best deals on actual Black Friday. Unlikely but maybe. It's not like there will ?be any new consoles available to lure customers in anyway.

Choose from free accessories or free games

Cyber Monday deals on the Nintendo Switch console systems are now live and they are a lot better than what we saw on Black Friday. As of writing, both Best Buy and ?Walmart are offering strong bonuses when you pick up a Switch system online.

Both retailers are offering bonuses in the value range of about $35 to $45, with Best Buy offering free games when you buy a Nintendo Switch Version 2. You'll get a free copy of Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle ($15 value) and Starlink: Battle for Atlas Starter Pack (about $20 value).

At Walmart, two bundles are available: a nice deal on a Nintendo Switch Version 2 with two freebies: 128GB microSDXC me??mory card ($19 value) and an Ematic wireless controller ($28 value). The other bundle at Walmart is simply a Switch along with a free wired Ematic controller. They are listed at the same price so you should obviously grab the bundle with more goodies.

Update: It seems Best Buy ran out of Mario + Rabbids as they are now only including Starlink as a bonus when you buy a Switch.

Nintendo Switch Cyber Monday Bundle Deals

You can choose between the Neon or Gray Joy-Con models, and honestly the choices are pretty easy. If you want to try those games out, grab the Best Buy deal. If y??ou don't really care for either of these titles, grab the Walmart deal with memory card and controller.

Both of these WILL go out of stock. So if?? you're reading this on Sunday night still - you may have a good chance to pick up a system with ??these bundled freebies.

We'll be updating this post? with more Cyber Monday bundle deals on the Nintendo Switch as they appear, so check back regularly or let us know you spot something yourself in the comments below!

Select arcade starts at $149

If you've been waiting to pick up one of those Arcade1Up Arcade Cabinet machines for Black Friday and Cyber Monday weekend, Walmart has now added two additional bundle to their offering fo??r this holiday season and they are discounted as much as $100 off. In fact, they've upped the ante after Black Friday and have reduced two additional machines for another $50 off.

For the Star Wars arcade cabinet with the riser bundle (this brings the machine higher off the ground to work better with typical bar stools), the machine is discounted by $100 off to $399. These machines are at four feet and the riser adds another foot to the machine. The four-player TMNT arcade includes the game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Turtles In Time for $349 while the Star Wars arcade features the 1983 Atari Star Wars game.

Other popular machines such as the Marvel Super Heroes runs for $249 while the Mortal Kombat machine is currently going for $229 - both of these include three games in one package, making them decent values. The cheaper machines are priced at $149.99, and this includes the Final Fight, Asteroids, and Galaga machines. The Final Fight machine wa?s priced at $199 during Black Friday and is now $50 cheaper, while the Asteroids machine was priced at $169 and dropped ?by another $20.

Update: The Mortal Kombat machine has dropped down to $199 from $229.

While all the deals above are pointing to Walmart, other retailers that we know which may have Black Friday deals on these Arcade1Up "cabinets" include Costco and Best Buy. Initially more of a novelty giving these are scaled replicas, these machines have been gaining traction and a following, and apparently they are now being produced with better displa??y panels and controls along with pre-installed protective cover for the control areas.

Deals expiring soon tonight

We'll make this post quick and easy because of how limited time these deals are. As of writing, you can still pick up a Nintendo Switch Lite for around $170 (plus tax) at Rakuten thanks to their site-wide 20% off Black Friday? coupon co??de (BF20).

This means a Switch Lite bundled with Pokemon Shield or Sword at full price will save you about $43, or you can also pick up a Nintendo Switch Version 2 for around $263 (there was a cheaper deal earlier in the day but it has now gone out of st?ock).

These deals expire tonight at 11:59pm, though given how Rakuten han??dled things in the past, they are likely to make a return on Cyber Monday (note though that during this weekend the coupon is unlikely to be ongoing).

Over 80 PS4 deals rounded up for your browsing pleasure

As Thanksgiving dinner ends, so begins Black Friday shopping. A tradition as old as time (or whenever marketers came up with this idea), this time frame appears to be moving earlier and earlier. In fact, from what we can tell most of the B?lack Friday deals appeared as earlier as Wednesday night.

With Black Friday in full swings, we're now seeing tons of PlayStation 4 deals appearing (and disappearing just as quickly). As of writing, there are three solid PlayStation 4 Pro deals, with the best being an Antonline deal at Rakuten with stacking 20% off code (BF20) to bring the price down to $264. Even with shipping, that's a?? significant discount for a PS4 Pro. For PS4 Slim 1TB systems, GameStop is still carrying the "Only on PlayStation" Bundle for $199, whereas retailers such as Walmart has already ran out of stock for online purchase.

In the PS Plus department, if stock is still available by the time you read this - you can scoop up 12-month digital code at Rakuten using the same BF20 coupon code to bring the price all the way down to $35.99, otherwise, a $39.99 deal also exist on eBay, and lastly GMG is still offering 12-month subscription code for $42 with a bonus of 5 free PC games (yes PC games).

For games, tons of deals are available. Highlights are of course Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Red Dead Redemption 2, Borderlands 3, and tons more. To make it easier to b?rowse, we've group the game deals by pricing. As of writing there are 13 games at the $20 price point, 12 games at the $15 price, and 14 titles for $10. F?or completion, we've also rounded up 10 decent pre-owned deals below. Check back throughout the day as we'll be adding in more deals we se spot them.

Update: Removed OOS PS4 console deals and updated pricing on some of the below as Rakuten is fluid.

Next Half-Life will be in 15 years and will be built for AR

It's Turkey Day and if you're one of those lucky PC gamers who don't have a potato for a system, you may just ??be shopping for a VR head-mounted display this holiday se??ason - especially because Valve has suddenly decided to start printing money by selling a game they've made (gasp).

As of writing, there is one very decent deal and 3 "just okay" VR deals. The best pick in our opinion is the Samsung Odyssey+ Windows Mixed Reality Headset with controllers for only $229. Most retailers have a similar ??discount, but our pick would? be B&H Photo as they have limited sales tax, fast shipping, and strong customer service support.

Three other deals are this holiday season's common promotion of $50 off the Oculus Rift S PC-Powered VR and the higher end Oculus Quest (the 128GB model is also available), which is a standalone unit and won't require a PC. But the key thing abou tthe Quest is that a recent Oculus Link update will allow you to run it as a wired setup to?? the ??PC so you can play Half-Life: Alyx.j

Finally for those with a bigger budget, the HTC Vive Cosmo is also on sale for $100 off at $599. This HMD comes with a total resolut??ion of 2880 x 1700 ?and plenty more bells and whistles (310-degree tracking, removable front-plate, etc.).

Black Friday VR Deals for PC

At the end of the day, the Odyssey+ is an older setup with?? less tracking camera, but we think at $229 it'?s a less risky investment if you're unsure about VR gaming.

Deal starts at $499

If you're thinking of picking up a new gaming laptop this holiday season, we've rounded up some of the more wallet friendly offerings this Black Friday. The best bang-for-your-buck machine in our opinion is an MSI GL65 15-inch gaming laptop at Walmart for only $599. This comes with a mid-range GTX 1650, which is slightly faster than the older GTX 1050 Ti. You'l?l be able to run Borderlands 3 at high settings, and Mod??ern Warfare at ultra setting. The best part of this laptop? They're tossing in a giant 512GB SSD.

The next best candidate if you have a little bit more to burn is the Dell G3 15 at $679 with sports a GTX 1660 Ti Max Q, which is a higher mid-range GPU. It gets you about 15% more frame rates compare to the 1650 lis?ted above in similar settings, and makes VR gaming a lot more viable. This means for $680 you'll get a head start on a VR-cap??able gaming laptop if you eventually want to pluck the money over for Half-Life: Alyx.

Finally, for those with a bit more budget, we've also liste??d some under $1,000 laptop??s below, the noteworthy of the bunch being the MSI GL75 which includes a high-end 144Hz 3ms IPS 1080p display.

Under $600 Gaming Laptops (More under $500 laptops)

$600 to $900 Gaming Laptops

Under $1,000 Gaming Laptops (More under $1,000 laptops)

Ye latest AAA roundups

All the latest Triple-A titles are on sale this week for Black Friday and you can skip out on the full price or minuscule discount offered by each respective platform's chosen digital store front. This is the season where physical gets cheaper. (More game deals here).

As of writing, Call of Duty: ModernWarfare is $38 at essentially everywhere (but Walmart offers free faster shipping). The best Black Friday deal for Borderlands 3 is $28 at Best Buy, and you'll also find Madden NFL 20 at $27 at Walmart (the same deal was available for FIFA 20 but Walmart has been showing a higher price point again for whatever magica??l reason).

PC gamers aren't left out completely with GameStop offering the digital copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare for $38. This is the Battle.net key, for those unaw??are.

$30 Breath of the Wild and lots more

It's just shy of 11pm Eastern and Black Friday deals for the Nintendo Switch is popping live across the web. Since this Saturday, numerous deals have gone live but most have been just okay at best. Thankfully, things are slowly turning around as more Nintendo Switch console bundle d?eals are appearing online.

Walmart currently has the two holiday bundles of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Mario Tennis Aces + 1-2 Switch in stock, for $299 and $329 respectively. If you don't really care about the games included, the next bet deal in our opinion is the Nintendo Switch Version 2 console at GameStop for full price, but GameStop is throwing in a $25 gift coupon as an extra incentive.

For Nintendo Switch Lite Black Friday deals, you'll probably need to search far and wide for anything that's decent. So far we're seeing a modest deal at Walmart where you can pick up the Turquoise color console for full price with a bonus free case ($10 value, yay). Another more interesting deal with a street value of around $25 bonus are the Switch Lite bundles at Kohl's, which are priced at $250 and $245, and in return for buying more random accessories bundled in with the Switch Lite, you'll receive $75 or $60 cash to be used after Cyber Monday (good for online or in-store). If you?? don'?t shop at Kohl's these aren't as strong of an incentive.

Finally, game deals are actually very decent with many 1st party Nintendo titles at up to 50% off! Example includes The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for only $30, Super Mario Party for $30, and more. Just a note ??that some of these are already showing stock issues, so you'll need to act?? quick if you see something you like.

Update 11/29: This should be the last update for this post as we rounded up the latest Nintendo Switch console system deals for Black Friday. As of 2pm Pacific, most deals below are still valid. Note that the deals at Rakuten with BF20 code will expire later tonight.

    Today through December 4, 2019

Nintendo kept us waiting, huh? The annual eShop Cyber Deals are back just in time for Black Friday.

These aren't even Steam titles anyways.

If you're getting your wallet ready for Steam's Autumn Sale (roundup here) - hold that thought because whatever you're planning to buy is highly likely to be cheaper elsewhere. For Black Friday weekend, other popular third-party retailers such as Green Man Gaming, GamersGate, Fanatical, and more are all offering PC game deals at aggressive discounts.

In fact, because a lot of noteworthy big titles these days are on other launchers (thanks to you-know-who), some of the better deals are of course found elsewhere off Steam. You'll currently find Red Dead Redemption 2 for 26% off at $44, The Outer Worlds similarly discounted by 26% to $40, and Borderlands 3 is 40% off at $35.

Other noteworthy game deals are Code Vein for $36, MORDHAU at $22, and Devil May Cry 5 for only $14.85. Astute readers will note that many PC game deals from GMG comes affixed with a "Free 5 Games" tag, this is because for a limited time during Black Friday, you'll be able to choose 5 additional free games. These freebies include VR titles such as Sprint Vector, Arizona Sunshine, Star Trek Bridge Commander, Rock Band VR, and other miscellaneous games. Regardless if you have a VR setup or not, the freebies are a nice additional bonus. Check back throughout the week as we'll be adding more deals here as we spot them, especially PC game deals such as Walmart and oth??er non-digital r?etailers.

$150 off Xbox One X and $100 off Xbox One S

Like the PS4 deals we wrote about earlier this week, plenty of Black Friday Xbox One games and console dea?ls are now live across the web from your favorite retailers (if there's even such a thing).

The advertised $150 and $100 off Xbox One X and Xbox One S promotions are live and we haven't seen any major deals that deviated from this standard offer. Best Buy had a limited time bonus $30 e-Gift Card when you buy an Xbox One X, but that offer has now ended and has been replaced with a free 3-month Xbox Live Gold offer. We suspect the $30 e-Gift Card deal will return on Wednesday or Thursday night. A comparable offer is at Kohl's where you can pick up an Xbox One S bundle and receive $75 in Kohl's Cash.

In terms of accessories, Xbox Live Gold, or Xbox Game Pass, the deals are surprisingly lacking thus far. You'll find the typical controllers on sale for $39, which is a similar discount we've seen in years past. For Xbox Live Gold, you can pick-up 3 month's worth for $15 at Walmart, who is also offering 3 months of Game Pass Ultimate for $26.99 (discount of 40% off)). Remember though that the $1 intro offer is still available if you've never sign-up for Xbox Game ?pass befo??re.

Noteworthy video game deals include Call of Duty: Modern Warfare for only $38, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint for $28. You'll also find plenty of games at the $20 and sub-$15 price point below. Note that deals below are list??ed from multiple retailers and because prices and stock are very fluid, things may go out of stock or the pricing may have changed. Double check prices befor?e you checkout.
