Black Myth: Wukong has dozens of bosses that you’ll fight one after the other in what feels like an ongoing gauntlet, but which of them is the har??dest? Breaking it down, here are the ten biggest foes standing in your journey to the West.

The hardest bosses in Black Myth: Wukong

This list may have spoilers if you have yet to beat the game. There?? are also bosses that you may have missed if you did not fully explore the game.

Tiger Vanguard Black Myth Wukong
Screenshot by Destructoid

Tiger Vanguard

The Tiger ??Vanguard is a highly aggressive boss who quickly narrows the gap between you and him. It’s hard to play defensively against him, as he’ll constantly be punching you, lunging at you, ?or tackling you with his weapon.

On top of that, he has the Rock Solid parry move that can stagger you and set you up to die if you fall for it. You have to respect his moves and wait for an opening. Encountering him really amps up the difficulty in Black Myth: Wukong.

White Clad Noble in Black Myth: Wukong

Whiteclad Noble

The Whiteclad Noble is one of the earliest bosses on this list who will give players a run for their money. He has a lot of ranged and d??elayed attacks that can really ruin your flow and oftentimes throw you off. There’s also the whole poison aspe?ct of the fight, so now you have to worry about damage-over-time (DoT) killing you.

To make matters worse, he’s one of the few bosses in the game who has a second phase with a whole new life bar. It?’s all about patience and avoiding the delayed attacks in both phases so you can kick his face in and move on in Chapter 1.

Captain Lotus Vision boss fight Black Myth Wukong

Captain Lotus-Vision

Captain Lotus-Vision was such a headache that he got nerfed. Jokes aside, this boss tests you on dodging projectiles because this boss has plenty of that. There’s more dodging than actual combat in the fight, which is a shame be??cause it's visually cool.

However, the problem with fighting Ca?ptain Lotus-Vision is that you have to deal with the camera bugging out and the madness buildup from the Pagoda Realm. The boss itself isn’t annoying, it’s the mechanics out of your control that are.

Ebon Flow Black Myth Wukong

Yin Tiger

The Blacksmith, Yin Tiger, makes the other tiger bosses in this game seem like a pushover. He’s even faster, more aggressive, and has a lot of counterplay against the Destined One i??n this duel.

He can absorb your attacks with his defensive stance, powering up his blade. He can then reverse that damage onto you and almost one-shot you. He teleports and zips around constantly, so it makes locking on tough??. Lastly, he’s heavily resistant to the Immobilize spell, so hitting him once when he’s affected will break him out of it.

Scorpionlord boss Black Myth Wukong

Scorpion Lord

The Scorpion Lord is fast, aggressive, and covers a lot of ground with each of his attacks. He does not respect your space and you have to act accordingly with it. Pair that with the fact that most?? of his moves will inflict Poison Bane on you, so you’re constantly dodging, receiving DoT, and struggling to drink your gourd.

Once you see his claw or tail glowing, you better be ready to dodg?e those moves in particular. Those will sting (literally).

Black Myth Wukong Yellow Wind Sage

Yellow Wind Sage

The Yellow Win??d ??Sage is going to be a hard roadblock for many people’s first playthrough of Black Myth: Wukong. A lot of his moves have these small delays and secondary effects to them, so it’s hard to actually time your dodges correctly. His staff has a ridiculous range so it’s hard to ??keep your distance.

Not to mention, when he starts c?onjuring up the sand tornado all around, everything is harder to see. He gets more aggressive and can combo you into a quick death. Sure, you can use the Wind Tamer to negate most of that, but the fight itself is still quite a headache.

Lastly, that kick is the bane of my existence. It happens so quickly that I always get combo’d into that animation as he recites that he’s beyond mercy toward his m?aster and that he, the “foul disciple, has bested the monkey once again

Yellow Loong fight Black Myth Wukong
Screenshot by Destructoid

Yellow Loong

The Yellow Loong is like the way harder version of the Cyan Loong who you fight on Turtle Island from Chapter 3. Everything he does inflicts Thunder Bane on you, the ground in this arena is so uneven, and the space you have for t??his fight is very small.

This guy sucks. He’s the amalgamation of all the annoying things you may have encountered so far in Black Myth: Wukong tur?ned into one epic fight. Delayed moves, sudden thrust atta??cks, and punishing AoE make this boss an easy top pick for the hardest bosses.

Yellowbrow boss Black Myth Wukong
Screenshot by Destructoid

Yellowbrow

The actual Yellowbrow fight is just a painful experience all around.?? Every time he coats himself in gold, you have to build up your focus and use a charged attack to dispel it. Think of this fight as going up against Captain Lotus-Vision but with more BS all around.

The constant teleporting, the keep-away t?actics he pulls, and how he trivializes your spells make this boss a nightmare. So muc??h happens in this fight that, if you even let your guard down for half a second, it’s a wipe.

Erlang Shen Black Myth Wukong
Screenshot by Destructoid

Erlang Shen

Erlang Shen from the game’s prologue is the secret final boss after beating the base game and is now back with a bunch of other moves to kill you. He was easy in the prologue because you ha??d infinite health and mana, but here, it’s a true test of everything you learned on your first playthrough.

He’s fast, has ranged attacks, and performs so many combos that it’s hard to know when ?it’s your turn to hit him. You can’t get too greedy as he can easily counter you. Also, all that flying h?e does turns a lot of this fight into mastering dodging and stamina management.

The only saving gr?ace of this fight is that his phases are still on the same life bar. Everything after the initial encounter on Mount Mei is pure spectacle.

Black Myth Wukong final boss
Screenshot by Destructoid

The Great Sage's Broken Shell (Final boss)

While Erlang Shen is technically the true final boss, The Great Sage’s Broken Shell has true final boss ener?gy. Having all of your abilities amped up to 11, this hollow shell of the Monkey King has range, big damage, elementa??l buildup, and many animation locks.

Y??ou basically have to play the first phase of this fight perfectly so that you have (hopefully) enough heals for the second and final phase. On top of that, you can even have your heals stolen from you, giving him a free few heals along the way.

This is the fi?ght where you want to use your best build and give it your all because the huge increase?? in difficulty is quite dramatic.

While there may be other bosses who probably should have been up here who didn’t make the cut like the Wandering Wight or the Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master, these are significantly harder. Most other tough bosse??s in the game are light ski?ll checks or stat checks, but all of these are both.

It's plain as day by now that Black Myth: Wukong is kind of a big deal, both for those who are familiar with the game's timeless tale and for those who are not. Good news, then: the beloved non-Soulslike is going to be getting a DLC sooner or later.

This information, as unsurprising as it might seem considering Wukong's remarkable success, comes straight from a major Game Science investor, Daniel Wu. Wu's relatively obscure company, Hero Games, is the biggest third-party shareholder of the Black Myth developer Game Science. He talked about his experiences in a recent interview with Bloomberg, whe??re he plainly stated an expansion is next ??on Game Science's docket.

Black Myth: Wukong investor claims a DLC is on the way

As Bloomberg's interview explains, Wu told them that it won't take over half a decade for Game Science to produce a follow-up to Black Myth: Wukong. Instead, the studio is already hard at work on a full-blooded Wukong expansion pack, drawing a direct comparison to Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree. It's a heck of a comparison, to be sure, but Wukong has proven its mettle as a heavy hitter on the gaming marketplaces. Its success is even more impressive than it seems at a glance, in fact, as it's not even out yet on Xbox consoles.

"If you want to hear the truth," Wu told Bloomberg, "Game Science's success today is built upon its four failures in a row. Wukong proves not only that we have top-notch game-making capabilities, but also we ca???n tell a good story with Chinese elements."

Both Hero Games and Game Science are obviously proud of what they've accomplished with Black Myth: Wukong. For good reason, of course, as the game is quit?e stellar as long a?s you don't mind a record number of invisible walls in your games.

For Wu, Wukong's success is particularly important because he invested $8.5 million (60 million yuan) in Game Science back in 2017, which amounts to a 20% stake in the development company. For his investment, Wu struck gold, as Bloomberg estimates Black Myth: Wukong has earned about $700 million so far. The mysterious DLC Wu revealed the existence of is bound to prop up this number further still, as p?layers simply can't get enough of the Destined One's adventures.

Curiously, Bloomberg learned that Wu's Hero Games was behind the massive Black Myth: Wukong marketing campaign. The publisher was responsible for the streamer guidance document, which forbade them to talk about "f??eminist propaganda", Covid-19, or "??politics" in a broader sense, and Wu decli?ned to comment on the matter. Pro??bably for the best, I reckon.

Once you enter the endgame of Black Myth: Wukong, you might want to pay attention to the Bull K?ing Iron Horn resou?rce. Getting one of the better sets in the game will be important.

Here’s what you need to know abo??ut the item and how to get it.

How to get the Bull King Iron Horn in Black Myth: Wukong

To get the Bull King Iron Horn in Black Myth: Wukong, you have to beat the boss, Bishui Golden-Eyed Beast, in the secret area of Chapter 5. This area can be accessed in this chapter while doing the Pale-Axe Stalwartâ€??™s quest.

Once you can start crafting Mythical level gear, you’ll see that this item will be necessary for crafting the Bull King’s set, which grants you the Unyielding Res?olve set bonus.

It should be noted that you can only obtain four units of this resource per story playthrough. If you want to craft the whole set, you need to go into New Game Plus and defeat the Bishui Golden-Eyed Beast again.

At most, you can only craft three of the four pieces of the set ?in one ru?n. However, there are incentives to run the game again as you’ll unlock additional gear to use in the second playthrough.

Additional uses for the Bull King Iron Horn

Not only will you be able to get an additional four units of this crafting item, but you’ll also unlock the Dark Iron Staff. This Mythical weapon comes from the Cloud-Patterned Stone Staff upgrade tree and will also require the? Bull King Iron Horn.

While not directly part of the set, its unique effect coincides with the armor’s stats. It’ll “considerablyâ€?increase your damage based on how much defense you have. So, with the high defense stat the Bull?? King set has, this weapon is the perfect match for it.

Now with a full set and potentially the staff to go with it, you can take on the next level of New Game P?lus and see how strong this setup can get.

Black Myth: Wukong borrows a lot from Souls games like difficulty and bosses, but does it have a New Game Plus? Is there more to this game beyond the credits without starting an entirely new save file? This is what you?? need to know?.

Does Black Myth: Wukong have New Game Plus?

Yes, Black Myth: Wukong has a New Game Plus mode. ??After reaching the initial credits, you’ll be sent back to the main menu. You’ll have the option to “Continue Journeywhich is go back to your current save, or “Enter a New Cyclewhich is the game’s lingo for New Game Plus.

It’s ideal that you go back to your current Journey and complete anything you may have missed. This includes secret areas, optional bosses, and side quests that are still able to be completed. You’d also want to scour areas for any unopened chests you may have missed since materials are scarce and limited per playthrough.

Once all that is done and you’re ready for New Game Plus, here’s more that you need to know regarding the items you currently have in your in??ventory.

What carries over into New Game Plus?

The following are all the things that carry over into New Game Plus in Black Myth: Wukong:

  • Player level
  • Sparks (Skill Points)
  • Spells (Transformations included)
  • Spirits
  • Relics
  • Armor
  • Weapons
  • Vessels
  • Curios
  • Gourds
  • Drinks
  • Soaks
  • Items
  • Materials
  • Ingredients
  • Journal Entries

Mostly, everything that you have accumulated in the game will be carried over into NG+. The only thing that won’t transfer over into your new Cycle will be Key Items.

What’s different in New Game Plus?

The difference in New Game Plus will start with enemies and bosses having more health and damage output. By then, you should already have an armor set or a build that can make do with tough foes.

Generally, most things will be the same, but somewhat easier because y?ou have all your abilities from the start.

Aside from stat buffs on the enemiesâ€?part, you will also have access to new armor sets, weapons, and some additional items. They are unlocked according to how far you? prog?ress in the game.

You’ll also be able to equip an additional ability on a Relic after a Chapter’s completion instead of only opting for one. This means that if you like multiple abilities from Craving Eyes, you can esse??ntially have?? more than one option if you get this far.

All uni?que enemies that grant you a Spirit will also drop their blue flame again. However, instead of getting a second Spirit, they will be converted into Will (the game's currency).

Additionally, in NG+, you can complete or acquire anything you may have missed in your initial playthrough of the game. This includes NPC side quests that got locked out, missing Jour??nal entries, missed bosses, and ?extra crafting materials.

Keep on the lookout for ??any of that, especially if you're aiming for the Platinum Trophy for this game.

The secret area of Chapter 5 in Black Myth: Wukong is quite literally off the beaten path and there’s a lot of build-up just to get there. If you’re confused about?? how to get there, you need to know this.

How to get to the secret area of Chapter 5 in Black Myth: Wukong

The secret area of Chapter 5 can be accessed if you follow the Pale-Axe Stalwart’s quest from the beginning. After you defeat him in that initial invasion, you can talk to him. As always, exhaust his dialogue just t?o be safe.

Progress through the chapter until you encounter the first two Elemental Carts. Upon defeating the Gray Bronze cart in the narrow canyon area, return to the Camp of Seasons Shrine. Talk to him again and exhaust his dialogue.

Once that’s all done, continue the story like normal until you fight?? the Keeper of Flaming Mountains. After this boss, progress onward to encounter the Cr??imson Silver Cart.

The Stalwa??rt should be fighting it. However, this would be a solo fight if you had not spoken to him earlier. Either way, you still have to defeat th??is boss to progress the journey to the secret area.

Upon defeating this, go back to the nearest Shrine, preferably the Emerald Hall. Depending on whether you fought the Cart ??with the Stalwart? or not, this will help progress the quest. He’ll have his eyes set on one last location that you can access after.

After clearing the Field of Fire area, all the way up to the final boss of the chapter, there’s an alternate path to the right. You can find an additional Shrine called the Cooling Slope. If you keep following the path, you’ll find this giant icy wall guarded by the final Elemental Cart??.

Upon defeating the Rusty Gold Cart, talk to the Stalwart one more time to initiate the cutscen?e and any additional dialogue. Fi?nally, you can enter the secret area of Chapter 5.

Luckily, the area can’t be missed if you defe?at the final boss of the chapter or miss certain dia??logues with the Pale-Axe Stalwart.

The Arhat Gold Piece is an important key item you’ll get in Black Myth: Wukong that’s needed to unlock the secret area of Chapter 2. It’s also missable if you aren’t careful of your?? surroundings, so this is what you need to do.

How to get the Arhat Gold Piece in Black Myth: Wukong

The Arhat Gold Piece can be obtained after defeating the First Prince of Flow?ing Sands boss by the Valley of Despair Shrine.?? During the fight, you do have to bait him to destroy the wall with all the praying monks.

It’s rather easy to have the First Prince attack this area of the arena since he’s very aggressive and tackles you everywhere you go. Just make sure that during the fig??ht, he doesn’t pin you against the wall and kill you.

If at any point in the fight, you never get him to destroy that wall for you, all is not lost. You can use the Wandering Wight spirit after the fight to destroy this. The area is still accessible,?? so you’re free to come back to it to do so.

Once the wall is broken, you will enter a new ??area where its only purpose? is to gather this item from a chest.

As you progress through the Drunken Pig’s quest in the game, you will need this item along with the two Sobering?? Stones and Jade Lotus items. Once you encounter his brother, the Yellow-Robed Squire, back where this quest started, you need this item in the secret area of Chapter 2.

It’ll help you progress through this part of the quest to get the item that can help you turn the tide of battle when fighting against the Yellow Wind Sage. The Wind Tam??er isn’t necessary but will negate most of this bosswind and sand attacks t??hat can easily kill you.

The streamer and content creator, DSPGaming, during his playthrough of Black Myth: Wukong, cheesed Kang Jin-Star, a rather difficult boss from Chapte??r 3. While just trying to defeat her, DSP used a transformation spell ??and simply attacked her. What happened next was pure hilarity.

In? the clip below, he’s in the early stages of this battle, using the Azure Dust transformation spell. Nothing crazy is happening yet, but he’s just slowly whittling away at the bosshealth while staggering her in a corner?.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALFEu5zuHyM

When the next phase happens, Kang Jin-Star is teleporting all over the place?, above his character and below the ground. While he’s just mindlessly using the ?transformation’s attacks to try and hit the boss, there comes a point where she’s below the ground and DSP’s attack hits.

Without even realizing it, ??the bosshealth went from nearly 70% to zero from that one random interaction. When he can finally hit her, she goes down in one?? blow. He’s left so confused. So what happened?

While in t??he teleporting phase of this boss fight, Kang Jin-Star is still vulnerable to damage. She’s ?hard to hit since she’s moving around so fast and out of bounds, but apparently, the hitbox of that slam attack was large enough to essentially push her out of bounds.

It was either that or the shaking of the ground pound ?made?? Kang Jin-Star fall into the out-of-bounds area, instantly killing her. It seems easy enough to replicate, so this will surely get patched out.

Kang Jin-Star is a fairly difficult boss because of all the movement between each phase. Pair that with the lightning damage she does and how often you have to respect her space, this unintentional cheese sure did prevent a lot of rage on?? DSP’s part.

While Black Myth: Wukong is very strict in terms of invis??ible walls??, often going past these will lead you to an instant death. The same applies to enemies. Interactions don’t happen like in the clip above, but mostly in higher, cliffside areas like in Chapter 3 and beyond, where you can knock enemies out of bounds to their deaths.

Kudos to DSP for pulling something cool like this. Sun Wukong would be proud that you had a wild trick ??up your sleeve to get past Kang Jin-Star.

Once you start collecting all the different forms in Black Myth: Wukong, which of them is the best transfor??mation spell? It’ll be a while into your first playthrough that you’ll get some strong ones, but here’s what to know when you finally get there.

What is the best transformation spell in Black Myth: Wukong?

The best transformation spell in Black Myth: Wukong is the Umbral Abyss. This is the Macaque Chief transformation you receive after completing Chapter 3 of the game??.

Black Myth Wukong Umbral Abyss

The reas??on wh??y this is the best is simply because of its incredible damage output. If you transform into this with maxed-out focus, you can hit your opponent with the initial slash and instantly use its Cold Heart spell.

The foe becomes susceptible to cold damage upon casting the ability, and every subsequent attack afte??r it will deal big damage. Applying enough pressure, especially on a boss, can remove a third of its health with p??roper execution.

Some enemies can outright negate its damage?, but for the most part, this is a huge boss killer.

Other strong transformation spells in Black Myth: Wukong

Very close alternatives to what we consider to be the best transformation are the Ebon Flow, Ashen Slumber, or the Azure Dome.

Ebon Flow Black Myth Wukong
Screenshot by Destructoid

Ebon Flow

Ebon Flow is strong in p??articular because it can block incoming damage and release it as a heavier, charged attack with multiple levels of power. It also has a strong dodge to close the gap between you and an enemy.

Ashen Slumber Black Myth Wukong
Screenshot by Destructoid

Ashen Slumber

Ashen Slumber is also another strong pick because of the high pressure and damage he can deal. Just swing away with the ??light attack until you build up the fire meter. Once full, use your heavy attack to breathe fire and inflict Scorch Bane. Also, when your meter is about to run out, just use the Fiery Burst spell to blow up and deal massive AoE damage.

Azure Dome Black Myth Wukong

Azure Dome

Finally, wit??h Azure Dome: it’s an enhanced version of the Destined One. You can still use some of your spells in this form while having access to new moves and banes to inflict. It’s quite good, but you won’t really be using this until your New Game Plus run.

In Black Myth: Wukong, there is a secret area in every chapter, but Chapter 3, in particular, isn’t so straightforward. Where is it, and ho?w do you get to it? Here’s what you need to know below.

Where is the secret area of Chapter 3 in Black Myth: Wukong?

When you cross the bridge and get into the big snowy valley at the Snow-Veiled Trail, you may see this giant icy wall you can go into. This place is called The Great Pagoda, ??which is the key to finding the secret area of Chapter 3. Just get t??he Shrine for this area and move on.

However, this secret can only be explored once you complete the main story of the game, the secret areas of every other chapter in the game, and the Treasure Hunter quest.

With that said, if you’re only at the third chapter in the game, you have some w?ays to go before this becomes relevant to you.

As for the other secret areas of the game, you ?want to make sure you g?et to them and beat the main boss of each before progressing to the next chapter. These are the places as follows:

  • Chapter 1 - Ancient Guanyin Temple
  • Chapter 2 - Kingdom of Sahali
  • Chapter 4 - Purple Cloud Mountain
  • Chapter 5 - Bishui Cave

What to do in the secret area of Chapter 3?

Make sure that after getting the end credits for the final boss, you select strong>Continue Journeyinstead of “Enter a New Cycl??e Selecting the “New Cycleis basically New Game Pl??us, so you can’t go back to your first run. It’ll lock you out of anything you haven’t completed.

Once you go back into your current journey, return to The Great Pagoda. Go up the stairs to the highest point of this area to initiate a new cutscene with the kid Buddha. He’ll open up a new path into a snowy area called Mount Mei.

Upon reaching this area, you’ll only really have the true final boss to fight and defeat. They are a familiar, formidable foe, so be prepared t??o use your best build because this is not an easy fight.

Rice cocoons are an important resource in Chen Loong’s quest in Black Myth: Wukong. They are needed to feed the growing worm in the Zodiac Village, ??so here’s what you need to know how to farm them up.

Where to find rice cocoons in Black Myth: Wukong

To find rice cocoons in Black Myth: Wukong, you need to destroy all the cocoons that are around the Webbed Hollow area. Unfortunately, ??there aren’t any guarantees that you’ll find all three rather quickly.

It’s not a designated drop either from any particular enemy. You just have to keep destroying these cocoons and hope that RNG blesses you with good luck. So, while you’re trav??ersing through the Webbed Hollow, try destroying every or most cocoon you see on the ground.

You should also try destroying the larger cocoons that start moving and e???ventually hatch into a Lesser Yaoguai. Once they break out of them and become normal enemies, they will not drop this resource.

If you want a place to somewhat farm cocoons, it’s best to use the area by the Bonevault. This is near where you’d meet the Horse Guai for the f?ourth time if you followed his ques??t.

There are a lot of eggs between the shrine and getting to that area. Once you destroy as many eggs as you find in your path, use your Incense Trail Talism?an to teleport back to the shrine? and repeat it.

What to do with rice cocoons

Once you have all three rice cocoons, you will take them to Chen Loong, the seed trader NPC at the Zodiac Village. There’s a vessel housing a small Armourworm jus?t by the rest? of the crops.

You can only feed it one at a time, meaning that once you give one cocoon, you have to go back to the Shrine and do it again. After the third tim?e, you’ll receive the Elder Armourworm Spirit to use and?? cultivate.

The Chu-Bai Spear is a weapon you can unlock in the third chapter of Black Myth: Wukong,?? and if you’re at all specced into Thrust Stance moves, you should make getting it as early as possible your top priority.

The Spear uses the same Light Combo moves as your staff, does 75 damage on its own, and boosts the damage of Thrust Stance attacks. To unlock the ability to craft the Chu-Bai Spear, you have to complete the Pagoda Realm Prisoner’s questline. You’re first introduced to the prisoner when you start Chapter 3. He’s locked into the cell next to you, and you’ll need to break the purple seals before you can have a proper co??nversatio??n with him.

Once you’ve gotten to the Upper Pagoda shrine, turn around and drop down a hole in the floor. Fight and defeat Captain Lotus-Vision, then head back down to the first level of the Pagoda to speak with the prisoner. You’ll learn that he’s got some bad?? feelings about the Captains that roam the Pagoda realm, and he wants you to bring him their spirits. Once you do, he’ll give you the plans for the Chu-Bai spear.

How to get the Chu-Bai Spear

By the time you’ve gotten into the prisoner’s cell, you’ll already have obtained one of the four Captain spirits. The next one is waiting for you at the very top of the Pagoda. You have to beat Captain Wise-Voice to progress with the rest of the chapter a??nyway, but his boss battle also puts you halfway to the Chu-Bai Spear.

His fight can be incredibly tricky, and you need to make sure that you have access to the Pillar Stance before heading into it because a Pil??lar charged attack is the only reliable way to avoid Captain Wise-Voice’s devastating electricity attac??ks on the ground.

Here’s some good news for you: the next Captain’s spirit doesn’t require a boss fight at all. Captain Void-Illusion is already dead, so you just need to col??lect his spirit from his corpse. Progress through Chapter 3 until you reach the Longevity Road Keeper’s shrine in the Valley of Ecstasy. To the right of the shrine is a massive body with the Captain’s spirit floating behind it.

The last stop on this journey is another boss fi??ght. Captain Kalpa-Wave is just a short way ahead of Captain Void-Illusion’s corpse. He’s guarding the entrance to the New Thunderclap Temple, but he’s got some unusual tricks up his sleeve?.

Kalpa-Wave mostly uses stomp attacks, but he leaves behind pools of red liquid that deal damage over time when you’re standi?ng in them. His legs are his weak point, though, and if you deal heavy damage to them he can be staggered pretty easily. Just make sure to lure him away from the red liquid be??fore you go in for the kill.

Once you’ve obtained all the spirits, head back down to the prisoner’s cell in the Lower Pagoda. He’ll give you the Chu-Bai Spearhead, which combines with 4 Iron Sand, 8 Yaoguai Cores, and?? 21,000 Will to form the Spear. Now that you’ve got it, get to stabbing!

Yellowbrow is the final boss of the third chapter in Black Myth: Wukong, and he’s one of the toughest mandatory bosses in the final game, even though at first h??e’ll lure you into a false sense of security.

At the very least, Yellowbrow fooled me. When I finally climbed the mountain and met Yellowbrow in the temple, I was shocked by how much easier his fight was than Yellow Wind Sage, the final boss of Chapter 2. Sure, every so often he would vanish and reappear on the other side of the arena, but aside from that he didn’t seem to have many tricks. Then Yellowbrow trapped me inside a magic sack and transformed me from a monkey into a small??er, wilder monkey, and everything went off the rails.

The real Yellowbrow boss fight happens after that transformation. First?? the Destined One needs beat the Macaque Chief yet again, then he has to run through the miniature temple that Yellowbrow puts him in. Finally the two of them meet on one of the temple’s platforms for a three-phase final battle. This one isn’t for the faint of heart, but here’s everything I learned during the many, many attempts it took me to kill Yellowbrow.

Destined One fighting Yellowbrow in Black Myth: Wukong

How to beat Yellowbrow

The best thing to do to beat Yellowbrow is plan ahead. Before you even reach the top of the mountain, you should craft plenty of medicine to help boost your damage, defense, and shock resistance. Once you enter the temple, you? won’t have a chance to stock up again before you’re in the real Yellowbrow boss fight.

The basic strategy for beating Yellowbrow involves damaging him as quickly as possible the moment the fight starts. There will be phase transition animations each time you take out a third of?? Yellowbrow’s health, and during those you’ll take some unavoidable damage. Because of that, you should aim to get to that first transition before needing to use any of your drinks.

Yellowbrow coated in gold
Screenshot via Destructoid

Throughout the battle, Yellowbrow will coat himself i??n gold, and you’ll need to hit him a half dozen or so times to break the coating and open him up to damage. It’s possible to get him to the first phase transition before he uses the gold ability, but sometimes ??he can be pretty quick on the draw. When he’s coated, you should mostly focus on dodging his extremely damaging electricity attacks, and take a single hit on him between each of his attacks.

PSA: Don’t summon your duplicates during the fight. I thought it would be great to have a team of monkeys wailing on Yellowbrow, but it turns out he can take control of the duplicates and make them attack you. That was a rough way to die. The Immobilization spell also becomes useless against Yellowbrow after his first phase transition, so use it or lose it. When it comes to swapping spells, I will say that my transformations really came in handy for doing large chunks of damage and absorb??ing some of those electrical attacks that I struggled to dodge.

Yellowbrow teleporting in Black Myth: Wukong

Despite the animations and unavoidable damage, Yellowbrow’s actual move set doesn’t really change between the phases. He’ll continually teleport around the arena to keep you running, and he’ll keep coating himself in g?old to resist your damage. Aside from that, he uses electrically charged melee attacks that coat the ground in AoE damage. His main two moves are a massive downward? swing that rips up the ground and a spinning attack that can hit you multiple times if you don’t roll away.

Thereâ€?™s no way around this being a tricky fight. Having a good medicine supply and knowing that you can’t get greedy with your magic helps, but beyond that you’ve really just got to focus on pacing out your drinks and learning how to dodge Yellowbrow?’s most damaging attacks. By the time you beat him, you’ll be well prepared for the back half of the game.

The quest will first start once you reach the Bitter Lake area in Chapter 3. Find the North Shore of the Bitter Lake Shrine as ??the main starting point. Go back from where you found the shrine to end up at a red gate.

Go through this gate and proceed on this?? trail until you run into another building at a fork in the road. The Treasure Hunter sh?ould be sitting right there. After clearing the enemies, you can talk to him. As always, exhaust his dialogue to progress.

Progress onward through the chapter up until you reach the Towers of Karma Shrine in the Valley of ?Ecstasy. Here, you should already have the Ring of Fire?? ability at this time.

You’ll find the Treasure Hunter again, telling you that he’s cold. It’s implied that you need to use the Ring of Fire ability near him to warm him up. In doing so?, you’ll get a new cutscene followed by some dialogue.

You have to get to the Melon Field to complete this quest. We have a whole guide on how to get ther??e from this area, which you can check out here.

The closest shrine to get there is the one in the Forest of Felicity. Staying on the initial right pa??th, then hugging the left side of the path from there will eventually take you there.

In the end, you will have to fight a boss to initiate the last ??c??ut scene of the quest, but then you’ll also be given the Spell Binder ability.

The Horse Guai quest is one of the longest in Black Myth: Wukong, with a nice reward at the end. It’s also easy to miss, so here are a few tips to make sur?e you don’t mess ?up.

How to complete the Horse Guai quest in Black Myth: Wukong

To complete the Horse Guai quest in Black Myth: Wukong, you must find and talk to him in every chapter. Depending on where you are, he’ll be standing somewhere or possibly trapped. Ensure you also exhaust all his dialogue to the point where he repeats himself for safe measure.

Nothing particular will happen immediately as yo??u talk to him, but this will progress the quest regardless.

All Horse Guai locations

The following are all the locations where he will appear in each chapte??r. Luckily, he will only appear once in each case, so you’re all good to go once you interact with him. Make sure you talk to him before you make significant progress in the region or chapter.

Chapter 1 - Black Wind Mountain

Start at the Back Hills Shrine in the Bamboo Grove area of Chapter 1. Go down the stairs and hug the wall until you enter a cave. Here, you should find a med?itation spot to get a free spark, followed?? by running into the Horse for the first time in the game.

Chapter 2 - Yellow Wind Ridge

Start at the Village Entrance Shrine in the Sandgate Village area of Chapter 2. After defeating the Earth Wolf boss behind the gate, th??e Horse Guai should be tied up to a structure on the left side of this area.&nb?sp;

You can’t free him, so you’re set until the nex?t chapter once you exhaust all ?his dialogue.

Chapter 3 - The New West

Start at the Temple Entrance Shrine at the New Thunderclap Temple. This will be a much longer route than the last two ch?apters. While making your way up to the main part of the temple, go off to the l??eft.

Similar to the route you? take for the Fox quest of this chapter, instead of going up the big set of stairs on the left side of the route, there should be anot??her entrance to the right. This is the area where you encounter blindfolded monks an??d some thunder mages.

The Horse Guai won’t ??be tied up or anything this time. He’ll just have a conversation with you.

Start at the Bonevault Shrine in the Webbed Hollow area of this chapter. Defeat the Centipede Guai boss and proceed onward. You should eventually encounter the Horse Guai once more, this time trapp?ed insid??e a larger-than-usual cocoon.

His ?this cocoon enough times to break him free. You’ll initiate a cutscene where he’ll thank you for helping him along the way. Make sure to chat with him even more after this.

Chapter 5 - Flaming Mountains

From the Valley Entrance Shrine at Furnace Valley, progress normally through here. Clear all the enemies around because they are aggressive o??r have projectiles. You should find one of the Elemental carts here, broken ??down.

Interacting with this cart will initiate dialogue with the Horse Guai, who once again found himself in trouble. Do not pull the st??rin??g to initiate the conversation with him more than three times, or it’ll lock you out of the quest.

Nothing significant will happen yet, so you must come back? here after def??eating the final boss of this chapter. Do not progress any further beyond that.

Once you have done all this, you can finally get his Dark Thunder spirit, compl??eting the quest.

Captain Wise-Voice stands guard at the top of a prison in the Pagoda Realm in Black Myth: Wukong. He’s a mandatory boss, so come hell ?or high water, you’re going to have to beat him.

Up to this point in the game, Yellow Wind Sage ??has arguably been the hardest boss in the game, but I think Captain Wise-Voice really gives the Sage a run for his money. The Captain is a tall, four-legged being that can deal a ton of damage in just a few hits and also has an extremely larg??e health pool. To me, this battle felt like a war of attrition, but the best way to come out on top is to know your enemy before going in.

How to beat Captain Wise-Voice

Before you even start fighti?ng Captain Wise-Voice, make sure that you have at least one point in the Pillar Stance tree. Once or twice during the fight, the gold orb in the Captain’s head floats in the middle of the room and shoots ??out lightning bolts. The Captain can’t take damage during this time, and if you don’t charge a Pillar Stance heavy attack when the arena flashes red, you’ll take a near-lethal amount of electricity damage.

The first thing t?o notice when you actually start the battle is the Captain’s injured foot. It’s on his front right side, and it’s the only place on the Captain’s body that takes any damage. A few times throughout the fight you might stagger the Captain causing him to kneel down and give you a good shot at the?? gold orb that seems to be his head. For the most part, though, you’re going to want to stick to that foot like glue.

Captain Wise-Voice will usually start the fight by shooting a blast of electricity at you. It’s possible to dodge the blast at the very l?ast second, but I had an easier time running underneath his body before the blast went off. Once you’re actually attacking the Captain’s foot, he’ll usually start throwing out some stomps that are pretty clearly telegraphed and easy to dodge.

Many of the Captain’s attacks deal electricity damage, so it’s a good idea to head into this fight with a few Shock-Quelling Powders in your inventory. Sometimes the Captain’s stomps will send out a wave of energy you need to jump over, and occasionally he’ll spawn?? bolts of lightning all over the ground that you need to avoid.

There’s one more strong attack to look out for. The Captain will sometimes charge a stomp, and his feet will glow yellow before th??ey slam into the ground. Jump right before the slam, or the Captain will toss you into the air and deal a ??ton of damage to you with a grab attack.

Those are the moves you ne??ed to be prepared to deal with. Because he’s so big, the Captain can be hard to see, but with target lock off you can swivel the camera and watch his moves more easily. Take this fight slow and steady. Once he’s down, you have quite the journey through chapter three ahe??ad of you.

Black Myth: Wukong has received a new patch, which has led to one of the primary bosses you meet in Chapter 3 being nerfed. Black Myth: Wukong patch 1.0.8.14860 has nerfed Yaoguai King "Captain Wise-Voice./p>

Game Science, developer of Black Myth: Wukong, has mentioned in the patch notes that it has “slightly reducedthe stats of Yaoguai King "Captain W??ise-Voice," but the developers did not expand?? upon the details of this nerf.

Some playe?rs have found difficulties in dealing with the boss, the most common problem players experienced during this fight was the movement of the camera which made it tougher for players to see close-ran?ge melee attacks coming.

A Reddit user wrote that the b??oss has "a couple of moves t?o watch out for," but the "camera can be a little bit of a pain at times." Another user noted that the boss fight seems extra difficult because it is "the camera angles that make it harder then [sic] it needs to be."

While stats h??ave been reduced, there?? is no mention of camera angle optimization during this battle.

Black Myth: Wukong patch 1.0.8.14860 is now available on PC and PS5. The update size for PC players is around 1.6GB, while?? it hovers around 1GB for PS5 players.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnSsgRJmsCc

Apart from this particular nerf, there are no other balance changes made for any of the enemies you encounter in Black Myth: Wukong. The patch mostly targeted bugs and glitches that players encountered in the game, especially with protagonist Destined One's switch stances and stats errors in some situations. You can also check out the official patch notes.

While the patch is also out for PS5, it sadly does not arrive with fixes for performance and stability issues console players have experienced in Black Myth: Wukong so far. From the looks of it, performance improvements for PS5 will take time, as Game Science co-founder and director Yang Qi also reportedly said (via PlayStation Lifestyle) during a fan interaction on Weibo that there are optimization problems for Black Myth: Wukong on PS5, and that the game is "basically bottlenecked" on the console at the mom??ent??.

Black Myth: Wukong has been a massive hit for Game Science, as it became the most-played single-player game of all time on Steam. It also played a big role in contributing to Steam's latest record, where Valve's PC games platform surpassed 37 million concurrent users.

There are a whole host of sidequests you can find while you journey through the story of Black Myth: Wukong. As soon as you start, there are multiple ones you can pick up and complete to your heart’s content for a slew of rewa??rds.

The Turtle Tear quest can be found in Chapter Three, granting you a sweet Soak if you complete it. If you’re havi??????????????????????????ng trouble locating the Turtle Tear and com?pleting the side quest, we’re here to help.

Where to find the Turtle Tear in Black Myth: Wukong

The Turtle Tear will appear at the North Shore of the Bitter Lake Keeper Shrine after defeating the Apramana Bat. ??To get to this boss, you need to follow the right path. When you arrive at the North Shore, go right to the water and follow the shore.

You’ll come across some massive snake skeletons in the snow. Keep going and you’ll find t?he main?? body, where the skull of the snake skeleton is. This is where the Apramana Bat will appear and attack you on sight.

Screenshot by Destructoid

Be aware that this boss will only appear so long as Z??hu Bajie is with you, who joins you when you travel to the North Shore. If you go too far on the shore and lose Zhu Bajie, this boss will not show up at all, so be aware it’s possible to entirely miss him.

Luckily, this boss fight shouldn’t be too difficult. Try keeping the Apramana Bat on the ground instead of in the sky, and you won’t have trouble taking him down. He’ll shoot many ranged attacks at you, so use the Immobilize spell to your advantage and keep the bat close.

Once you’ve defeated the?? Apramana Bat, interact with the large skeleton at the skull.?? The Turtle will shed a tear that falls along the shore of the Bitter Lake. This is the Turtle Tear you’re looking for.

Now that the tear has bee??n shed, you can head to where it fell on the ground. It’s hard to miss, as it glows a green-blue color all around the area. If you are having troubl??e, though, go directly under the Turtle’s head.

Pick it up, and you’re given the Soak. This Epic Soak recovers a moderate amount of Mana for you when you use the Gourd at full health. It’s great for Mana until you get further into the game, so you should consider picking up the Turtle Tear. Overal??l, the quest is n?ot difficult and gives you a solid item for your trouble.

There are a handful of secret dragon bosses hidden throughout Black Myth: Wukong, and Red Loong is the one th??at lurks ??in the forests of chapter one.

Red Loong is hidden very close to the start of the game, but you won’t actually be able to fight the dragon until you’ve made your way through a portion of chapter two. That’s because you need to find the Loong Scales before you can unlock the secret area where Red Loong lives. The Scales are inside a chest behind a breakable wall in the First ?Prince of Flowing Sands boss arena. After you’ve collected them, you’re ready to go dragon hunting.

How to find Red Loong

T??o find Red Loong, you’ll need to travel to the Outside the Forest shrine. F??ollow the path forward past two enemies until you reach another enemy guarding a wooden bridge. Defeat him, then jump off the bridge and follow the stream to your right. You know you’re heading in the right direction when you start hearing a disembodied voice speaking. Travel far enough upstream, and you’ll find a waterfall that’s pouring into the forest.

If you have the Loong Scales in your inventory, you’ll have the option to interact with the waterfall when you approach it. The Scales would cause the water to disappear, and behind it lies the entrance to Red Loong’s boss arena. I’d recomm??end waiting until you’ve cleared most of chapter two before circling back for this boss fight because it’ll make the encounter much easier.

With that said, Red Loong isn’t a particularly difficult boss. It mostly relies on tail swipe attacks and a couple of different stomps. The main thing you need to worry about is electricity damage building up over time. Craft some Shocking-Quelling Powder at a shrine, and you should be just fine.

When you start leveling up in Black Myth: Wukong, you're given sparks, or skill points to put onto new skills in the game, but which are the best? If you want strong skills to use to turn the tide in battle, check out what we think are??? must-haves.

Navigating through t??he skill trees and various menus can be jarring too, given how extensive each one can be. We'll break each skill down and where they originate from starting from the initial menu.

Best skills in Black Myth: Wukong

To start, we're going to the Foundation menu to see which of the three trees are worth putting any points into. The order will go from left to right, highlighting ?the best skills from each section.

Foundation

Stamina

The whole tree is worth speccing in??to. Other than the Focused Breath ability on the left, everything here is too valuable to pass up.

Martial Arts

Most of the left section of the tree in this section is worth getting?? as you’ll get an attack boost to your light attacks. This?? applies to other stances when using them as well.

Survival

This whole section is purely based on player preference. However, I personally recommen?d anything dealing with Sta?mina, Critical, and Four Banes resistance.

Staff Stances

In the Staff Stances menu, you will focus mostly on increasing the utility and damage output of your heav?y attacks. To start off, try leveling into the abilities on the left as follows:

  • Exhilaration
  • Instinct
  • Versatility
  • Secondary Damage

These will all not be available to you right away or will require you to fur??ther level up the other trees to meet the level thresholds to the left of the general stats.

As for the rest of the Staff St??ances, it’s best to focus on one and upgrade them all the way. Doing so will give you better stamina management for those specific stances and make better use of stored Focus Points.

Smash Stance is more for general combos, Pillar Stance is fo??r more methodical play, and Thrust Stance is for more defensive and ranged play.

Don’t mix and match them until you have enough points to go ??into other tre??es.

Mysticism

Heading over to your first ability that you get in-game, Mysticism will be the ability you cast when holding your "On-hands" butto?n with your Light Attack button. Spec into this when you can.

Immobilize

Everything on the Immobilize tree is worth sinking your skill points into. The last skill, Time Bargain,?? is especially good fo?r boss battles where they can oftentimes break out of this a lot quicker than normal enemies.

Ring of Fire and Sp?ell Binder are decent, but Immobilize is still overall the best skill of the three.

Black Myth Wukong transformation

Alteration

Next, we're on the spell that gives you the option between Cloud Step and Rock S??olid. The superior choice is Cloud Step for its evasiveness and stagger potential from the Unve?iling Strike attack.

Cloud Step

Everything in Cloud Step is also worth using. Level this up as more talent??s are unlocked further down the tree.

Strand

Strand is basically your ultimate ability. You w??ill only unlock one t??ree here.

A Pluck of Many

Once again, getting every skill is worth it in this tree, especially for tough bosses. A Pluck of Many is a mana-hungry move and is only ever used whe??n you’re really struggling.

Transformations

This one is more of a variable based on which Transformation you use. However, for the sake of ??versatility, choose these to start:

  • Cold Edge
  • Evergreen
  • Might Fortification
  • Hidden Might
  • Ferocious Form
  • Might Reserve

It’s better to learn dodging and countering techniques during your Transformations while focusin??g on duration and attack output so that you can destroy your enemies faster.

All ??of this is assumed that you have the points to put ?into the aforementioned skills and you’re far enough in the game to unlock them.

The Feng Tail General is a pretty straightforward boss to beat in Black Myth: Wukong, but th??ere are a few unexplained mechanics when taking on this massive beetle. To make this boss fight a ??breeze, we’ll explain how each part works.

How to beat the Feng Tail General in Black Myth: Wukong

Before you take on the Feng Tail General, you want to make sure your HP, Stamina, and Burn Resistance stats are all fairly high. You should also equip the Fireproof Mantle as it’ll be the key to preventing you f?rom losing this fight.

This fight is more of a st?at check, so make sure your levels are high, and your gear is strong enough to take this on.

How to beat the Feng Tail General in Black Myth Wukong
Screenshot by Destructoid

The whole mechanic of the â€????œfightâ€?is to simply hold onto the thing as it flies and leaps away to set locations in the Foothills of Mount Huaguo. After three successful jumps, you should initiate a cutscene where you set its antennae on fire, killing it.

However, many players, myself included, have run into an issue where you pass the stat check and the QTE section and still get knocked off

Black Myth Wukong Feng Tail General location
Screenshot by Destructoid

Why do I keep getting knocked off the Feng Tail General?

First, make sure you have over 700 HP, 300 Stamina, and close to 50 Burn Resistance. That’s kind of the mini?mum needed combination to ensure you w?on’t die or get knocked off.

Next, and this is the most impor?tant step that the game do??esn’t tell you.

You have to start this boss at the Mantis-Catching Swamp area. He starts his trail at an area just ?by here. If you catch him anywhere else in?? his path, you’ll get knocked off.

The ?Feng Tail General jumps to areas that are out of bounds,? even when you’re navigating around on the cloud. Because of this, you get knocked off regardless of your stats.

There’s nothing wrong with button bindings suddenly making your character let go between jumps. Why this isn’t made cl?earer is beyond me??, but this is how to do it.

White Clad Noble is one of the bosses that you need to beat to ring all three bells in the first chapter of Black Myth: Wukong. He’s also a bit of a test for your early-game stats and skills.

You’ll first encounter White Clad Noble after meeting Shen Monkey in the Bamboo Grove near the Marsh of the White Mist shrine. It’s basically a straight shot from the shrine to the boss arena, which worked out great for me because this one took me a few tries. I was coasting through Black Myth: Wukong on autopilot, but the White Clad Noble fight made me sit up and pay attention. Here’s what I learned from bea??ting him.

Destined One fighting White Clad Noble in Black Myth: Wukong

How to beat White Clad Noble phase one

If you haven’t yet mastered the dodge mechanic in Black Myth: Wukong by the time you face White Clad Noble, then he’ll make sure you know how t??o use it properly before continuin??g with the rest of the game. This is a heavy-hitting boss, but luckily, most of his moves are telegraphed. You just need to know what to watch out for.

I’d recommend using all of your tools right out of the gate. The Immobilize spell and your Transformations will help you quickly chip away at White Clad Noble’s health, and ?using them early will give them enough time to recharge before his second phase.

Pa??y attention to when White Clad Noble spins his staff and shoots out damaging gusts of wind. When the gusts stop, he’ll always charge up a lunging strike, and dodging that attack gives you a great window to attack him from behind.&??nbsp;

Another of White Clad Noble’s attack combos leads into him swinging around his staff and fly?ing towa??rd you. Don’t let your guard down after he lands because the spin is always followed up by a second jumping attack. You need to dodge twice, but again, you’ll have a good attack window here.

The last move to really l?ook out for in the first phase is an AoE attack that begins with White Clad Noble swiping his staff in a long arc. A moment after the swing, the water around the boss will explode?? and damage you. Honestly, the only way I reliably avoided this attack was to run away as soon as I noticed the swipe.

White Clad Noble from Black Myth: Wukong transforming

How to beat White Clad Noble phase two

White Clad Noble’s second phase begins with him ??turning into a horrifying ??snake monster, but despite his imposing new appearance, I actually found this to be the easier challenge. In part, that’s because his AoE attack comes back in this phase, so I already knew how to avoid one of his most damaging moves.

In this phase, White Clad Noble often takes a second to charge up a lunge, which makes one of his most common attacks also one of the easiest to dodge. The other move to look out for here is when he swings his staff over his head and pulls water into the air. After that, he’ll shoot a wave of water straight out in front of him, giving you another good attack window if you can dodge aroun??d it while running toward him.

Once you know all the attacks, beating White Clad Noble is just a matter of stringing together your combos, spells and Focus points. It’s not?? the easiest fight, but it does prepare you for everything that ??comes next.

The Steam Deck is by far my favorite gaming device, but when I started playing Black Myth: Wukong on it, I switched ??back to my PC pretty quickly. The low and inconsistent frame rate just wasn’t worth untethering myself from? my desk.

I couldn’t resist the Deck for long, though, and luckily I discovered that with just a few tweaks Black Myth: Wukong actually runs pretty well on it. I’ve been able to get the game to consistently stay about 45 FPS, and while that’s not spectacular, it’s good enough for me. Black Myth: Wukong undeniably looks a lot better on other platforms, but if yo?u’ve got your heart set on playing the game on Steam Deck, then y??ou can definitely make it happen.

Best settings for Black Myth: Wukong on Steam Deck

Black Myth: Wukong will optimize its settings the first time?? you load it up on the Steam Deck. The presets are a good start, but I was only getting 30-45 FPS with plenty of fluctuation when I tried using them. Here are some other settings you should take a ??look at:

  • Super Resolution: 50 -- lowering this was the main thing that increased my frame rate and stability
  • Super Resolution Sampling: FSR
  • Frame Generation: On
  • Full Ray Tracing: Off
  • Graphics Preset: Low
  • Frame Rate Limit: 60 -- set this in your Steam Deck settings

That’s about it! Graphically, Black Myth: Wukong is notably worse on Steam Deck, but that hardly matters when you can smash through bosses ??on your back porch or during your morning bus ride.

Getting the Celestial Ribbon is important in Black Myth: Wukong. When you star?t crafting armor beyond Legendary into Mythic, it’ll be useful.

The stat boosts in armor and other secondary effects that come from? it will make the remainder of your game much easier too. The transition in difficulty from Chapter 4 and onward is steep, so you definitely want to even the playing field.

How to get Celestial Ribbon in Black Myth: Wukong

To get Celestial Ribbons in Black Myth: Wukong, you will start getting them after beating the main final boss of Chapter 4. After that, yo??u’re mostly going to get this from major bosses and chests moving forward until the end of the game. This also includes buying some for Will at a Shrine.

The followi??ng bosses after Chapter 4 will drop Celestial Ribbons:

  • Keeper of Flaming Mountains
  • Yaksha King
  • Bishui Golden-Eyed Beast
  • Supreme Inspector

In Chapter 5, three chests contain this crafting material, so stay vigilant. In Chapter 6, you’ll earn one from buying it at a Shrine ??store.

In the end, you should end up with ten Celest??ial Ribbons if you did everythin?g up until the initial credits.

You can earn two a??dditional ones if you complete the secret ending. This will require you to complete all secret areas from every chapter including the treasure hunter quest.

How to farm Celestial Ribbon in Black Myth: Wukong

You can’t really farm this material. There is only a finite amount of them you can collect on your first run. If you are looking to craft all armor sets for the trophies/achievements or you’re trying to turn everything mythic, you have to go into New Game Pl??us.

These will be m??ore readily available to you, along with other armor sets of the Mythical rarity. Eventually, you will have enough of these so you can fully complete your game.

Once you’re well into Chapter 3 of Black Myth: Wukong, you might stumble upon this really eerie temple called The Great Pagoda. You’re running all over this place trying to figure out what the heck you need to do here, but wor?ry not, this is what you need to know.

What to do in The Great Pagoda in Black Myth: Wukong

This area won’t have any significance until you complete the m??ain story and beat all other secret areas.

Every chapter in Black Myth: Wukong will have an area that start?s with “Secret:followed by a few Shrine points. You have to do that if you did not find them, excluding Chapter 3. So let’s get that first.

Black Myth Wukong what is the Great Pagoda

Here are all the secret areas in the game:

  • Chapter 1 (Black Wind Mountain): Ancient Guanyin Temple
  • Chapter 2 (Yellow Wind Ridge): Kingdom of Sahali
  • Chapter 3 (The New West): Mount Mei (post-final boss)
  • Chapter 4 (The Webbed Hollow): Purple Cloud Mountain
  • Chapter 5 (Flaming Mountains): Bishui Cave

Select “Con??tinue Journeyin the main menu with that under your belt. Do not select “Enter a New Cycle Otherwise, you will be thrown into New Game Plus and there will be no way to retu?rn to your first playthrough.

As ?you spawn back? in your first playthrough, go back and revisit the Great Pagoda from Chapter 3. Go up the stairs to the far center of the area to initiate a new post-game cutscene.

You’ll once again meet up with the little kid Buddha. Heâ€??™ll unveil a secret behind the painting which you can now go through. What ends up happening now is that you’re going to enter an area called Mount Mei, the secret area of Chapt??er 3.

It’s a fairly st??raightforward area where you will encounter a familiar foe. For spoiler reasons, this will be left out. Upon defeating this secret boss, you’ll ?get the true final ending.

One of the best weapons you can get early in Black Myth: Wukong is the Lo?ongwreathe Staff, b??ut the materials needed to craft it can be tough to track down. You need to beat two secret bosses first, and they don't go down easy.

Black Myth: Wukong may be a bit of a linear action game, but it's steeped in secrets. Among said secrets are hidden bosses that relinquish exceptionally rare materials when defeated. Chances are, you k??now about the Loongwreathe Staff because?? you may have already tracked down one of its boss-exclusive materials and don't know where the other one is.

How to unlock the hidden boss fights

There are two bosses you need to beat for the Loongwreathe Staff materials in Black Myth: Wukong. Both are bosses that require the Loong Scales to find. If you don't have the scales, be sure to check out our guide on how to get them into your inventory.

Screenshot by Destructoid

Long story short, you need to fight the First Prince of Flowing Sands in Chapter Two. Lure the b??oss to attack the nearby wall covered in markings, which will open the path to a room with the Loong Scales in a chest. To use the sc?ales, find the boss doors hidden by a waterfall or flowing sand wall and press the action button when prompted.

For the staff, we'll need to track down two of the game's hidden dragon bosses: Black Loong and Red Loong.

Where to find the Black Loong hidden boss in Black Myth: Wukong

The first boss you can track down after you get the Loong Scales is the Black Loong. You'll find his arena near the 'Rockrest Flat' Keeper's Shrine in the Fright Cliffs of Chapter Two. This is the same Shrine that's near both the Stone Vanguard boss fight and the chanting Buddha heads whose eyeballs are ripe for the plucking.

The entrance to Black Loong's arena is behind a wall of falling sand at the top of a staircase near the shrine. F?rom the Keeper's Shrine, go right and climb to the top.

Black Loong is a dragon-like boss who wields two maces that generate lightning. Watch out for area-of-effect (AoE) attacks when he slams the two maces together. It's paramount that you avoid the leap since it can result in a massive AoE explosion of electricity. After losing around 30% health, Black Loong will stop and appear to exhale electricity. This is the start of a loooong rhythm-based shockwave attack. I suggest rolling to the side to dodge the waves. If you're having trouble, try buying or crafting the medicine Shock-Quelling Powder.

Defeating Black Loong rewards you with a Loong Pearl, a Mind Core, Will, and two Refined Iron Sand. Inside the chest that appears when he's beaten is the first item we need for the Loongwreathe Staff: Thunderbone.

Where to find the Red Loong hidden boss in Black Myth: Wukong

The second hidden boss is behind a waterfall in Chapter One. You may, in fact, find this fight a bit easier than Black Loong. If the latter is having his way with you, there's no shame in taking a break to wail on his fellow dragon for a ??while.

Return to the Keeper's Shrine 'Outside the Forest' in the Forest of Wolves region in Chapter One. Take the path forward ?but turn left at the first fork in the road.

Travel along t?he trail but take a sharp left up the hill when you get?? to the next fork separated by a chest.

F??ollow the path up and around until you see a path to the left adorned on each side by lanterns. Go in this direction, and use the Loong Scales on the waterfall near the pond.

Red Loong is far more dragon-like than Black Loong. It doesn't use weapons, relying on its tail and claws to dish out damage. At times, it'll leap into the air to hit you with a blast of electricity. Again, the Shock-Quelling Powder can help dissipate shock damage. Red Loong can be staggered easily, causing it to drop and flail on the ground. Use this chance to do as much damage as possible and then run onc??e it starts getting up. It'll respond with a massive AoE attack when it does.

black myth wukong how to craft loongwreathe staff - red loong fight

On defeat, Red Loong drops two Yaguai Cores, Will, a Mind Core, and a Loong Pearl. Check the chest that appears to get the second material required for the staff: Thunder Tail. You also get the Boshan Censer ??Curio, which offers "considerable" damage reduction after your healing gourd is empty.

How to craft the Loongwreathe Staff

You craft the Loongwreathe Staff in the same way all weapons are made: the Keeper's Shrine. Return to a shrine and navigate to the 'Craft Weapons' ??menu in the 'Craft' tab. You'll find the staff recipe in the Willow Wood Staff tree.

To craft the Loongwreathe Staff, you need:

  • Thunder Tail
  • Thunderbone
  • Refined Iron Sand x4
  • 21,000 Will

The staff deals 70 base damage, but has a unique effect that increases the damage dealt by all Pillar Stance mo??ves.

As you progress through the story of Black Myth: Wukong, you're able to grow more powerful through weapons, armor, and spells. But how exactly can you change spells, swapping them for another in Black Myth: Wukong?

Sadly, you cannot have every spell in the game equipped. Some spells share categories, meaning you'll have to pick the one you feel will work ??best in general play or against specific bosses. But swapping one spell out for another isn't exactly explained all too thoroughly. If you're looking to swap from Rock Solid back to Cloud Step and you're not sure what to do, read ?on to learn more.

Steps to change spells in Black Myth: Wukong

You can swap out spells via the Keeper's Shrine. Find a shrine and enter its menu. The option to swap out spells is found in the Self-Advance menu under the 'Set Spells' opti?on. Clicking on the option will bring you to a new menu, in which you can exchange one spell for another.

You have four categories of spells in the g??ame, covering:

  • Mysticism
  • Alteration
  • Scrand
  • Transformation

You'll have one spell in each category before you earn your first swappable spell, Rock Solid, which belongs in the Alteration category alongside Cloud Step. To swap the spell, move to a spell category, highlight the spell you want to swap t??o, and then press the 'A' or 'X' button on your controller.

The menu changes for mou?se and keyboard users, which spreads out the spells in a horiz??ontal line. Hover the mouse cursor over the spell category and click on the spell you want to equip.

That just about does it for spells and spell swapping. If you're looking for more Black Myth: Wukong guides, be sure to check out how to unlock medicine crafting, how to get the Sterness of Stone, Keeness of Tiger, and our overview on Focus Points and how they work.

The Melon Field is an important place in Black Myth: Wukong if you’re trying to reach the se??cret ending. It’s also a very easy place to miss even if you’re very good at exploring every area so far in the game.

Here’s when you should start to be on the lookout for the area so? you won’t miss it.

How to reach the Melon Field in Black Myth: Wukong

To get to the M?elon Field, you first want to progress far enough into Chapter 3 until you reach the Valley of Ecstasy. Progress normally until you reach the Forest of Felicity and its correspo??nding Shrine.

Once here, instead of going on the left path where you’d start the Fox quest, take the right one. Follow ??the snowy trail and get rid of enemies that stop you in your tracks to prevent? any sort of trouble.

You’ll eventually find another splitting path noted by a pillar next to a bridge. From here, take the left path. Do not take the bridge in this instance. Yo??u’ll come across a small ?set of stairs that will once again lead you to another fork in the road.

It’s recommended to take the left path once again, running alongside the cliffs. If you’re brave enough, you can simply jump down in the split of the road here, but be wary of fall d?amage.

Keep going forward until you come across a small lake. There are some enemies to clear up, so do that first.??

Now, approach that giant pillar closer to the edge of the cliff where the la?ke stops. You shoul??d see some more enemies there, guarding a set of two fires. This setup indicates that you can jump down from here, which is exactly where you need to go.

Once you jump down this cliff with ??the two fires, simply follow the path downward. You don’t have to worry about falling to your death since the invisible walls here are very generous.

You’ll eventually come across the ?Shrine for this place along with the secret fight, so now you’re good to go.

While fully exploring Chapter Two, you may have stumbled upon a peculiar object. The Old Rattle-Drum is an item dropped by a field boss in Black Myth: Wukong, and it's the key to unlock a hidden secret.

The Old Rattle-Drum is a Legendary Key Item rewarded by defeating the Tiger's Acolyte boss in Chapter Two of Black Myth: Wukong. You'll find him guarding a bridge just beyond the Windrest? Hamlet. Explore the region until you discover the hamlet in the Yellow Wind Formation area.

The Tiger's Acolyte won't give up the drum without a good scrap. He's fast, agile, and attacks with a barrage of multi-hit combos using his sword and a claw weapon. The bridge you're on is also narrow for a boss arena, giving you little room to escape. Your best bet is to use the Immobilize spell to stop his movements and wail on him for a bit. A?? Pluck of Many is ideal if you have it, as that many monkeys quickly overwhelm the Acolyte.

On def??eat, the Tiger's Acolyte drops Yarn, Silk, Will, Blood of the Iron Bull, his Spirit, and, of course, the Old Rattle-Drum. But what do you do with it?

Where to use the Old Rattle-Drum in Black Myth: Wukong

There are three places in Chapter Two where you can use the Old Rattle-Drum. If you've explored the region thoroughly, getting? to each area should be quick via the Keeper's Shrine teleport. But, even if you haven't, the first location to use the drum is near the Acolyte's bridge in the Windrest Hamlet.

Windrest Hamlet

Return to the hamlet from the bridge or use the Keeper's Shrine to teleport to the Yellow Wind Formation - Windrest Hamlet shrine. Return to?? the gate where you fought the three, red-cloaked Rat Imperial Guard enemies. H??ere's a reminder:

Ugh. | Screenshot by Destructoid

While approaching the gate f??rom the front, look for a path on the right leading to some houses. You'll know you're in the right spot to activate the Old Rattle-Drum when the world gets blurry and a dark filter is placed on the camera. You should also hear the voice of a boy asking you to use the drum.

Approach the skeletons near the houses and press the 'Use' button when prompted. Fight off th??e enemies and return to a Keeper's Shrine.

Sandgate Village

Warp to the Valley of Despair shrine in the Sandgate Village for the next locations. You should recall that this is where you first fought the rat king and prince. You should also have the Sterness of Stone and Keeness of Tiger items by this point. If so, proceed through the large door nearby, using the aforementioned items to unlock it if you haven't already.?

Take a sharp right at the bottom o?f the stairs and look for ??the houses just beyond. When you reach the clearing, the boy will speak to you again. Use the Old Rattle-Drum near the group of houses and prepare for another short battle.

The final location for the drum is also in the Sandgate Village. Return to the gate and enter the village. Head ?right after the gate and follow the path up the hill that goes around the back side of the village.

Screenshot by Destructoid

Take a left at the top of the hill and proceed down the path sidelined with the t??wo houses? near another gate. Enter the gate and cross the field beyond. There is typically a wolf boss in the area, but you should be able to avoid it if it's still alive.

To the right of the town gate is a gap in the wall with a short, wooden fence. Go through it, and?? you will find the final?? place to use the Old Rattle-Drum.

Using the drum begins a short cutscene where a boy beckons you to hop into a well. Obviously, ??we're going to do what the ghost child wants.

Secret boss fight: Mad Tiger

Finding all the places to use the Old Rattle-Drum in Black Myth: Wukong unlocks a secret boss fight against Mad Tiger. This is t??he bro??ther of Tiger Vanguard, stuck below the village for many years. Needless to say, he's got a bit of a chip on his shoulder.

Unlike his older brother, Mad Tiger doesn't wield weapons. He uses his mitts instead, and some rocks for good measure. Mad Tiger attacks slowly but he hits hard. Some of his attacks are delayed, which may cause you to try and dodge prematurely. Stay patient and wait fo?r his attacks. He usually pauses after a combo, letting you deal some damage or heal.

Not a fan of what's about to happen. | Screenshot by Destructoid

After losing around 30% health, Mad Tiger goes into his second phase. His roar will hurt you and rocks fall from the ceiling, so keep your distance wh?en he's powering up. When you see him leave one or two arms in the ground after a combo, be prepared for a follow-up attack. With both arms, he'll rip up the ground around him for an area-of-effect (AoE) attack. If he digs one arm into the ground, he'll pull off an uppercut that flings rocks for a long-range attack.

When Mad Tiger is defeated, he drops Yarn, Silk, Will, and his Spirit. On its use, the Spirit allows you to transform into the Mad Tiger for a rushing AoE a?ttack. It's a fast move, allowing you to?? carve out some damage when charged. Equipping it does have an effect, mind. It'll increase your Attack, but reduce your max health.

The world of Black Myth: Wukong is littered with flora to gather, much of which is used for crafting medicine. However, while you can pick various herbs and fungi early in the game, the way to unlock medicine crafting in Black Myth: Wukong doesn't come right away.

Medicine crafting is unlocked in Chapter Two of Black Myth: Wukong. But unlike many abilities you gain in the game, there is a possibility to miss it. You have to speak with someone in the arid landscape that comprises the game's second chapter. If you don't, well, I'm not sure if you can unlock medicine later down the l??ine.

Where to unlock medicine crafting in Black Myth: Wukong

To unlock medicine craftin??g, you'll need to speak with a certain guy.

This guy:

The friendly, if a bit eccentric, fox-like yaoguai says he will teach you medicine crafting after you retrieve a formula stole?n from him by a frog.

This frog:

But fi??rst things first, you'll need to find the medicine-crafter. From the starting area of the chapter, head toward the pond and take the path winding deeper into the rocky terrain?? on your left.

Navigate the winding path while defeating enemies. Soon, you'll stumble across a Keeper's Shrine, guarded by a rat yaog??uai.

From the shrine, head toward the bridge separating you from the nearby town. Drop from the bridge (you can also find the pat??h that goes around) into the crevasse below?.

Go inside the dark ??cave. The fox yaoguai you need to speak with is near the cave's exit.

To complete his task, you must fight the frog squatting in the pond near the cave exit. The creature is akin to a field boss, much like the Wandering Wight, but thankfully far less stressful.

The frog boss, called Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw,? can still be a tough fight. It uses its long tongue to jab and sweep out your feet from afar. Getting close is also perilous, as it will swipe at you with its hand or hop onto your head. At medium range, it'll try to close the gap with a short-hop attack.

Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw also uses lightning powers. It charges its tongue attack with electricity. After knocking off around a fourth of its health, it'll enter a new stage where it will call down lighting from the sky and use its tongue to suck you into its mouth. It will also send out slow-moving bolts that can track you down. If you get hit by enough of its electrical attacks, you'll enter a Shocked State, which increases damage received.

Once the frog is fried, you receive the Evil Repelling Medicament formula, a Stone Spirit, a Yaoguai Core, and Tadpole materials. Take the formula to our fox friend, who rewards you with two Evil Repelling Medicament items, alon??g with knowledge on how to make it and muc?h more.

How to craft medicine in Black Myth: Wukong

You can craft medicine at any Keeper's Shrine in Black Myth: Wukong. To do so, locate a shrine and enter its menu. Navigate to the new section that reads 'Make M?edicines' and select it.

How to equip medicine

There are two ways you can equip medicine in the game. The fastest is by entering the main menu of the game, which automatically opens your Equipment tab. T??here, you can see four slots for medicine at the bottom of the screen. Use your d-pad or mouse to navigate to a slot and choose the Equip or Replace option to fill the slot.

You can also equip medici??ne in the Inventory tab of your menu. Highlight the medicine you want to equip, press the Equip option, and choose an On-Hand slot.

How to craft Celestial Medicine in Black Myth: Wukong

We're not done with our fox friend yet. As you progress further into Chapter Two, you'll come across our medicine-crafter once more. We now know his name, Xu Dog, but?? that's not the most important result of your second m??eeting.

Xu Dog can be found near the Keeper's Shrine at the Crouching Tiger Temple Cellar. Speak with him and he'll allow you to create Celestial Medic??ine.

Celestial Medicine comes in the form of pills that apply permanent status buffs. You can craft the medicine by exchanging Will and Mind Cores, rare ingredients that can be found via activities like beating bosses. Some pills take more than one Mind Core to create, so be sure to check how many get used per pil??l.

Here is the list of Celestial Medicines you can craft ?when you meet Xu Dog again:

  • Jade Lotus Pill

    • Increases max health

  • Taiyi Pill

    • Increases max mana

  • Nonary Pill

    • Increases max stamina

  • No-Mind Medicament

    • Increases defense

  • Iron Bull Pill

  • Yang Supplementing Pill

    • Increases Chill resistance

  • Water Jade Pill

    • Increases Burn resistance

  • Bloom Seed Decoction

    • Increases Poison resistance

  • Wujin Pill

    • Increases Shock resistance

You can reverse the buffs after you purchase a single Pill item from Xu Dog. Once you do, a new option called 'Remake Celestial Medicines' appears in Xu Dog's menu. Pick a buff to revert and hold the button to return the ingredients to your inv??entory.

The second chapter of Black Myth: Wukong has many more secrets and activities. If you're trying to figure out how to help the Drunken Pig or find more Yaogaui Cores, we have what you need.
