Live-action Pandoa finds its Dr. Tannis

Hollywood legend and long-time video game lover Jamie Lee Curtis is the latest superstar to join the cast of Lionsgate's Borderlands movie, based on the explosive shooter series from Gearbox. The Halloween and Knives Out star took to Twitter? to c??andidly express her excitement at the new role.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Curtis has signed on to play Dr. Patricia Tannis, a Pandoran archaeologist who features as an important NPC in all three mainline Borderlands titles, spin-off Tales From the Borderlands, and even received her own spin-off comic book. Curtis joins fellow cast members Cate Blanchett, cast as the mystical siren Lill??it??h, and Kevin Hart, who will pick up the heavy artillery of Promethean solider Roland. That's a more impressive cast than one might expect from a video game adaptation.

The Borderlands adaptation has been bandied about for many years, with multiple false starts. But with a star-studded cast and gore hound Eli Roth in the director's chair, it looks almost certain that this project is very likely to see its day on the marquee. Borderlands is still currently in its ??pre-production stages, however, so it will be sometime before we get to visit the vast, secretive, and dangerous planet of Pandora.

I guess we've always got Dune to tide us over until then...

The DLC-related crashing was fixed

If your Nintendo Switch copy of Borderlands 2 has been broken ??for weeks, it's finally time for an update.

When players claimed the Commander Lilith & the Fight for Sanctuary DLC for free and installed it, many of them were unable to access the content and some couldn't even play the game in general due to persistent crashing. It got to the point where people had to use a workaround to delete the DLC and manually prevent it from re-materializing when they installed Borderlands 2 again on their Switch.

As of this we??ek, the recurring crash should no lon?ger be an issue. An update went out.

A patch for Borderlands ??2 on Nintendo Switch has been pushed live to address reported stability issues some players experienced. Thank you for your patience as we worked on the fix.

According to users on the BorderlandsSwitch subreddit, Borderlands 2 is all-clear.

The most fascinating part of this story is that players recently stumbled on (now-disabled) developer commands for Borderlands 2 that let them max out their Badass Rank, kill all nearby?? enemies, instantly level-up, earn a stockpile of Eridium, and use other mad-with-power cheat codes. What a saga.

Wait, Borderlands 3 is on Switch? No! We're talking about Borderlands 2 today! I know, re-releases in this modern era have made everything pretty confusing. Oft?en times we're talking about the old more t?han the new these days.

Anyway, here's a bit of a PSA. If you own Borderlands 2 on Switch, you can get the Commander Lilith & the Fight for Sanctuary DLC for free. Is it particularly good? Nah. But it's free! And it serves as lead-in for Borderlands 3, which...isn't on Switch. Still, it's free! You just need the Legendary or Handsome collections to play it.

In fact, you can download it regardless of your ownership of Borderlands right now. Just head to the eShop landing page for Borderlands 2, and scroll to the bottom. Find "individual DLC" and click the Fight for Sanctuary link. Get it even if you have no intention of buying Borderlands 2? on Switch: just in case you get it for free one day.

To access the DLC, you'll need to be level 30, but you can also take advantage of an in-game option to create a level 30 character from the main menu, which will automatically warp you into the new stuff. You have until December 3, 2020 at 8:59 AM PT to get it!

$6 for BL2, The Pre-Sequel, and their DLC sounds pretty good

If you're looking to overload yourself on the Borderlands series in 2019, now's the time to buy. The PC and Mac version of Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is down to only $6.02 on Steam.

Even if you own Borderlands 2 and/or Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, this is a good chance to stock up on?? the DLC and numerous character skins for those games. Cas??e in point: the off-sale price for the Steam bundle is $229.48. That rate isn't meant for real humans, clearly, but the deal itself is enticing.

Captain Scarlett, Son of Crawmerax, Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt – the list goes on and on. Not even taking the cosmetic packs into account, I had forgotten just how much stuff there is for Borderlands.

You probably already saw by now, but you can also nab The Handsome Collection for PS4 with a PlayStation Plus account. That promo? runs throughout June, while the S??team deal is valid until June 17.

Borderlands 2 being the clear winner

I'm a little shocked at the game selection for Games with Gold next month. Usually Microsoft kills it in terms of big-name titles or critically acclaimed indie hits. This month, though, we're getting a bunch of nonsense on the Xbox One and an inferior version of a fan favorite shooter. I can't say much about Heavy Weapon, but I know PopCap Game?s made it, so it probably isn't to??o bad.

For Xbox One users, you'll be able to get Evolve: Ultimate Edition from March 16 to April 15 and Layers of Fear from March 1 to March 31. For 360 users, you'll get Borderlands 2 from March 1 to March 15 and Heavy Weapon from March 16 to March 31. Remember, those 360 titles are backward compatible, so it isn't a total loss on the Xbox One? front.

I don't know how the 360 version of Borderlands 2 fares against the PS3 version, but that port was a total pile of garbage. Split-screen was an absolute nightmare with horrible fr??amerates, poor load times, and a bunch of crashes. My friend and I actually really hated the game until we gave the ??PC version a shot, which quickly reversed our opinion.

Why Microsoft opted to go that route with Borderlands 2 is strange to me, since it could have just as easily given the better Handsome Collection version on Xbox One and skipped over the basically dead Evolve. Well, you can't win e?very month for free games an?d getting something is better than nothing.

FOV slider added on PS4, Xbox One

Fresh updates for Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and Borderlands: The Handsome Collection rolled out today across PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and even PS Vita.

Those 3x better legendary loot drop rates enabled back in May via hotfix are now permanent, for starters. There are also balance changes, bug fixes, and performance improvements across the board. On PS4 and Xbox One specifically, The Handsome Collection has gained a field-of-view slider (unde??r Video Options), and the latter v?ersion's multiplayer connectivity has been touched up.

Claptrap and Headhunter DLC

Last week, Humble and Gearbox announced the Humble Borderlands Bundle, featuring Borderlands, Borderlands 2, a coupon for 75 percent off Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and a big chunk of downloadable content for the first two games in the series. Desp??ite featuring a lot of the DLC, there were some notable entries missing. Predictably, they showed up in the bundle last night to kickstart interest during the second week of the campaign.

In addition to everything previously included, the bundle now features Borderlands' fourth DLC Claptrap's New Robot Revolution and the remaining Borderlands 2 Headhunter packs, T.K. Baha's Bloody Harvest, The Horrible Hunger of? the Ravenous Wattle Gobbler, How Marcus Saved Mercenary Day, and Mad Moxxi and the Wedding Day Massacre. All of these are in the "pay more than the average" tier, which is currently sitting at just above seven doll??ar??s.

This bundle is now about as close to a "complete edition" as one can get for the Borderlands series. There are cosmetic items for Borderlands 2 not included in the bundle, but the only major gameplay content missing is the Pre-Sequel DLC. The bundle expires on July 7.

Why grind for loot when it's right there in a golden chest?

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is out today. One of the major selling points for those who have already played Borderlands 2 and/or Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel on last generation hardware is the ability to import save data from legacy consoles. However, certa??in things like items in Claptrap's Secret Stash and Golden Keys cannot be transferred. The former is easy to work around; one needs only to move the Secret Stash item to a backpack or bank. The latter has no user end procedure, so Gearbox is givi?ng out a fat stack of Golden Keys for everybody.

For those new to the idea of Golden Keys, they were introduced in Borderlands 2. Generally, players acquire new keys by following Gearbox/Borderlands/Randy Pitchford on Facebook or Twitter. By signing up for Gearbox's data-tracking service Shift, players can en??ter codes in-game for various rewards; usually it's just keys, but there have also been character customizations.

After redeeming codes for keys, the keys may be spent at a Golden Chest. In Borderlands 2 the chest is found in Sanctuary. In The Pre-Sequel it is found in Concordia. Opening the chest will generate random pieces of loot at exactly the character's level, almost always of rare (purple)?? quality or higher. It's a good way to buff up as old gear becomes obsolete but before any good random drops have shown up.

As a bonus, these codes should work with any version of the two games found in the Handsome Collection. Even those without the current generation upgrade can enjoy them. So without further ado, the Shift codes are belo??w. They are good through March 31.

Going to Los Angeles to work on a new RocketJump project

Almost five years ago, Anthony Burch went from being a Destructoid staff member to a Destructoid alumnus, moving on to work as a writer at Gearbox Software. On his personal Twitter account this morning, he announced that he would be leaving Gearbox to work on a new series for Hulu produced by Video Game High School studio RocketJump.

In his time at Gearbox, Burch was the lead writer for Borderlands 2 and its downloadable content. He also contributed to Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. He definitely made his voice heard through the characters on Pandora, and while there are plenty out there who resent that, I appreciate what he did to bring the Borderlands universe to life.

Gearbox recently posted an opening for a writer. Though it is not certain that it is related to today's news, I can imagine that the prospect of potentially working on the Borderlands series has ??made the position even more attractive.

During the official Borderlands panel at PAX South, Gearbox chief Randy Pitchford confirmed the company was "ready to start" production on a new game in the franchise, later taking to Twitter with an open call to developers looking for work.

According to firsthand reports from the panel, Gearbox hasn't officially started work on the next Borderlands. There are currently no hints as to what exactly the next Borderlands would look like, but if you combine the ending of Borderlands 2 with Gearbox filing a trademark for 'Borderworlds' in 2009, a larger-scale game wit?h multiple planets seem??s likely.

Gearbox is currently looking for "artists, designers, coders, producers and other developers," according to a tweet from Pitchford, so no matter what your particular skill may be, Gearbox has a home for you. They're also taking applications from e?sta?blished developers, promising "confidentiality" should you wish to remain anonymous.

As decided by the fans

Per the official Borderlands Twitter account, Krieg, Claptrap, and Tiny Tina are the series' most popular characters amongst Borderlands fans. There's no? clear indication? which character received the most votes, but I wager Claptrap is a pretty safe bet.

In many ways, this is the biggest story of 2015 for me. The story in Borderlands has?? never ?;been my thing -- too irreverent for my taste -- but a lot of people really enjoy the lore and this is a fairly concise insight into what exactly people find so resonant about this franchise.

Anyway, if I had to pick a character from Borderlands to award, it would?? probably be Dr. Zed. He's got a solid drawl to him, and I like his attitude! What about you guys, anybody stand out to you?

Good things come to those who wait

Yesterday, a set of new skins and heads for Borderlands 2 released, featuring the Vault Hunters dressed as characters from Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. As it was announced, the customization options would be made available as rare drops, but n?ow it looks like players can expect to get them with a little more? consistency, as long as they are willing to wait.

In a post on Gearbox's blog, Jeff Skal details? how players can obtain the customizations through Shift codes. Starting with Axton dressed as Athena this Friday, July 18,?? a new code will be revealed weekly, until August 22 when all six Vault Hunters will have had their due.

So hey! Good news. This game is giving out free cosmetic downloadable content. You may now proceed to the comments to talk about how terr?ible a different game by the same company is.

Vault Hunters cosplaying as Jack's minions

Over the weekend at GaymerX, Gearbox announced that it would be releasing free Borderlands 2 customization options tomorrow. The idea behind them came from the prolific Borderlands cosplay community, so the Borderlands 2 characters would be dressed as various Pre-Sequel characters. Thanks to Gearbox forum user Norrin Radd, we have the above off-screen image of the Vault Hunters sporting t??he new skins and heads.

It looks like Gaige is dressed as Moxxi, Salvador as Wilhelm, Axton as Athena, Zer0 as Claptrap, and Maya as Nisha. Even though I have been following Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel fairly closely, ??I cannot seem to place Krieg's costume. Any ideas out there?

The new customization option??s should show up as a free title update, but rather than being simply granted to players, they will be included as rare loot drops. It looks like it is about time to start grinding with my Siren again. That cowboy hat is too good to pass up.

Just a few more weeks

For those of you who just picked up your shiny new Vita Slim in North America, you probably found a redemption code for Borderlands 2. Europeans have been enjoying it for about a month or so already, but without the free game in tow. In fact, Borderlands 2 isn't even out yet over there.

According to Sony Europe however that's about to change, as the EU is getting the game on May 28th. Just a few more weeks if you want to get in on more Borderlands.

'A patch will be coming out shortly'

For those of you that are lamenting the lack of cross-save functionality in the Vita version of Borderlands 2, fret no more, as an official Gearbox support representative has confirmed the mechanic on its forums. Answer ?a question from a fan, the rep states, "a pat?ch will be coming out shortly for the PlayStation 3 version of the game."

It's disappointing that the Vita version doesn't support four player co-op (and thus, changes the entir?e balance of the game in terms of four player abilitie?s), but some form of Cross Play feature would be a pretty big win.

Bring one buddy to Pandora, but no more

Ever since the announcement of Borderlands 2 on PlayStation Vita, we have been hopeful about Gearbox's first-person shooter lootfest on Sony's handheld. After the first footage of it in action came out, it seemed clear that the developers would have to trim down certain aspects in order for it to function on the handheld. The PlayStation Blog had some hands-on time with it, and is reporting that rather than suppor?ting up to four players at once, the Vita version will only allow two players to run through coo?peratively.

This could be a dealbreaker for some; a lot of Borderlands 2's appeal is in spending time with friends and building teams with cool interactions. Off the top of my head, I could imagine this making certain class mods (the ones that buff the entire team) less useful, and I cannot even imagine trying to take down some raid bosses with only a two-person ?team??. On the other hand, many will be playing this on the go, so they might only do single player anyway.

There are some more positive pieces of information in PlayStation Blog's preview. Borderlands 2 will ship on Vita with the Mechromancer and the Psycho Vault Hunters included, along with Captain Scarlett and her Pirate's Booty and Mister Torgue's Campaign of Carnage. It will also feature cross-platform saves?? between the Vita and the PS3 ve?rsions.

All in all, it sounds like it is shaping up to be a solid port, though I am curious to know how the restriction to only tw??o players will affect the anticipation for it.

Game available separately a week later

Sony has announced a release date for the Borderlands 2 PlayStation Vita bundle today via PlayStation Blog. The bundle, which marks the first release of the handheld's slimmer hardware redesign in North America, will be available at retailers on May 6. Along with the Vita console, the bundle contains a copy of Borderlands 2 and an 8 GB PS Vita memory card, at a retail price of $19??9.99.

If you already have a Vita and just want the game, you'll have to wait a bit longer. Borderlands 2 for PS Vi??ta will be available in stores and online May 13.

We have known about the PlayStation Vita port of Borderlands 2 for a while, but had not yet seen or heard much more about it. The?? port is due out some time this year, and now we have the first look at how the shooter plays on Sony's handheld.

For the most part, it looks like Borderlands 2, but some obvious performance tweaks are apparent from the video above. As the player travels to Southern Shelf Bay, we witness a loading screen that seems to take a good chunk of time longer than those found in the console versions. More notable is that the bodies of defeated enemies do not stick around for any ??amount of time; both bu?llymongs and bandits are seen to disappear immediately with a small, bloody death flourish.

The biggest travesty, however, is that t??he player appears to be going with an non-inverted Y-axis. For shame!

Borderlands 2 bundle

The new PlayStation Vita will be launched this spring, coming in a Borderlands 2 bundle. This was confirmed today at a PlayStation media event in Santa Monica. It will include the game with six DLC packs (Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty, Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage, Psycho Character Class,? Mechromancer Character Class, Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 1 and the Collecto??r’s Edition Pack.), an 8GB PS Vita memory card, and will all retail for $199.99.

For this new model, battery l?ife is now 4-6 hours for gaming, and a new LCD screen replaces the current version's OLED one. Its shape has changed a bit -- it's more rounded and a bit more porta?ble.

It's the same one we saw released in Japan last year, and Europe earlier this y?ear.

Gearbox Software is adding a colorblind mode to Borderlands 2 as part of an update planned for all versions of the game. Programmer Jeffrey Broome wrote a blog post covering his research into? color vision deficiency more generally and what to expect from the mode.

The main issue for Borderlands 2 has to do with the way color is used to indicate an item's rarity. The studio's solution is to add a simple text indicator on item cards that say the color (e.g., "[Orange]?"). This will appear for all items whether they're dropped in the world, are inside a chest or vending machine, or are being viewed from your inventory.

Not an ideal solution but it should get the job done. Once patched, Borderlands 2 will offer its colorblind mode in the Video Options menu with three types of vision deficiency selectable: Deuteranopia, Prot??anopia, and Tritanopia. It'd be nice to see this offered as a standard option for gamers but it's a welcome addition no?netheless.

Borderlands 2 is getting some DLC for Thanksgiving, called The Horrible Hunger of the Ravenous Wattle Gobbler. First of all, that name is amazing. This is the second set of Headhunter DLC, following T.K. Baha's Bloody Harvest.

The Horrible Hunger of the Ravenous Wattle Gobbler will be out on November 26th for the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 for $2.99??.

More bosses for the Borderlands next week

A spooky, Halloween-themed adventure is coming to Borderlands 2 next week with the arrival of T.K. Baha's Bloody Harvest. The first in the series of "Headhunter" content releases, players will be guided by T.K. Baha's corpse into the ??secret heart of the Pumpkin King's pumpkin patch. If past experience is any indication, there are probably guns to be found in there.

Bloody Harvest also introduces power-ups called, "augme?nted candy," which will provide temporary stat boosts wh?en collected and could provide a nice bit of additional, arcade-style chaos to the action.

The content, priced at $2.99, ??arrives on PC, Mac, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 ??on October 22.

It was only a couple of days ago that the Borderlands 2: Game of the Year Edition launched in North America, and one of the prevailing sentiments in the comments was that $60 was too much for a year old game, even with the included DLC. Some suggested waiting a few weeks for a price drop, but any who held out need not even wait that long; the bundle is up on NewEgg for just $18. The deal applies only to the Steam key, so console gamers looking to shoot skags for a low price will have to wait longer before a deal hits cons?oles.

Other deals on NewEgg using that same coupon code are Civilization V for $9, BioShock Infinite for $12, and some of the older Call of Duty games ranging from $6 to $15. It's a good day for people who like shooting things, but don't like paying huge amounts of money?.

$100,000 Loot Hunt starts soon to commemorate

Back in August we learned that the Borderlands 2: Game of the Year Edition was on its way, and today it's out in North America. For those who have been able to hold out on the lootfest for the past year, this bundle includes the core game, the four story-based DLC packs, both the Mechromancer and the ??Psycho characters, and more. It is billed as being about $100 worth of content for about $60.

To help commemorate the occasion for old and new players alike, Gearbox is starting the Borderlands 2 $100,000 Loot Hunt, which will offer increased loot drops (including those?? pesky Legendaries), and will task the community with various objectives, such as killing? a particular enemy using a particular gun. What happens if enough players in the community complete the objectives? More loot, of course! The kicker is that some of the loot takes the form of real world objects, like Turtle Beach headsets and PlayStation Vitas.

I've been waiting for an excuse to get back into Borderlands 2 a??nd finally level my? Psycho up, so this just might be it.

Plus, DLC will be out tomorrow for Borderlands 2

The Gearbox panel at PAX Prime started with a bit of news, as they announced the release date for the Digistruct Peak Challenge pack for Borderlands 2 -- tomorrow, for $4.99. It'll drop with the Ultimate Vault Hunter 2 pack, which increases the level cap by 11 (again) and adds a few extras on top (detailed in this chart).?? In case you couldn't t?ell, if you own both packs they'll combine to unlock extras.

The second Vault Hunter pack will not be included with the Season Pass like the first one. New costumes will also be coming, including a Krieg beer helmet customization option. They also announced that if you pick up the community day 2013 digital access pack you'll get access to a beta for an unannounced Gearbox title -- one of two new IPs Gearbox is working on. Plus, you'll get Homeworld HD and Homeworld Classic.

Gearbox is taking the physical merchandise line for Borderlands 2 a step further with a special run of statues, starting with the playable vault hunter Zer0. No details have been announced so far like pricing or a release date, but Gearbox's Randy Pitc?hford did mention that the design wasn't fin?al, and the base in the picture was just a placeholder.

More loot chests will also be on sale at Think Geek on September 3rd if you didn't get one. With the Game of the Year edition of Borderlands 2 coming in October and the Vita version coming at some point, one thing's for sure: the Borderlands train is still chuggin'!
