Doctor, Doctor, give me the news

If you're a 'hip' kid like me, then you may have heard that the BBC announced a new Doctor was on the way for their long-running show Doctor Who. And on Sunday, they revealed on their Twitter that the new Doctor would be?? played by the phenomenal acto??r Jodie Whittaker.

Whittaker will take over the role in an upcoming Doctor Who Christmas special, and will get to stretch her legs as the Doctor when the 11th series premieres in late 2018. Peter Capaldi, the current Doctor, had nothing but nice things to say about Whittaker's succession in the paper Sunday Express.

“Anyone who has seen Jodie Whittaker's work will know that she is a wonderful actress of great individuality and charm. She has above all the huge heart to play th??is most special part. She's going to be a fantastic Doctor.”

Whittaker's casting is also notable as she will be the first wom??an to play the Doctor in the series lon??g television run. Until now, only guys have played the Doctor, giving us great performances from the likes of Christopher Eccleston (the criminally underrated Doctor) and David Tennant. Still, with such a culturally relevant show like Doctor Who, it seems more than appropriate to have a woman lead the show for a change. ?And that's all I have to say about that. Have I?? avoided internet hate? I don't know. Probably not.

This news has me optimistic about the future of Doctor Who. Not only will we get a talented new Doctor, but Chris Chibnall, the creator of the excellent crime series Broadchurch (which Whittaker had a prominent role in) will be usurping Steven Moffat as showrunner. Hopefully, the influx of new talent and a shake up in direction will keep the show fresh for years to come. And Whittaker will lead the way.&nbs??p;

Oh hey there! It's that time again for some wonderful European magic. We have a full cast this week (yay) and after rambling on about games and stuff, we talk a little more about the current situation with UK retailer GAME. We then move on to the EU-wide ban on game tax breaks, which is another pretty heavy topic, sorry guys, but it's good to know about at least. On a quick personal note I would like to thank to all of those who showed me love and support when I discovered I was nominated for the Games Media Rising Star award. Sadly I didn't win but I would never have gotten where I am today if it wasn't for the unbelievably amazing community here at Destructoid; it has indeed been an honor that I cannot thank you enough for. I'm going to miss you all like crazy but please make sure you keep up with me on Twitter!

It was incredibly sad putting together this episode, and looking back, I only wish I had started BritToid sooner so that I could have helped it grow even more than it has already. I want to thank ??all of you who have listened to BritToid over the last year or more, and for all the amazing support we have received; it isn't easy when Podtoid is your big brother. On Episode 13 the cast once again talk about what games they have been playing -- except I've done nothing but read the Game of Thrones books -- and we talk about the loss of jobs from Future Publishing, who are behind some of the UK's finest gaming magazines. After the break we come back to discuss the massive growth of the UK games market, Capcom Fight Club UK is now a thing that is happening and Games City, the UK's first games festival is taking place this year. We finish up by discussing the Harry Potter refugee camp ?which despite being NVGR is&nb?sp;absolutely hilarious.

While this may only be the 11th official BritToid podcast, it is actually our one year an?niversary and it has definitely been an interesting adventure. When I started working for Destructoid I always said I wanted to be on a podcast and eventually I just decided to start my own. Like a phoenix (or 'Pheonix' if you get the joke) we rose from the ashes of the long since departed Podcastle, and thus BritToid was born -- all thanks to the help and support of my cast who are all jbsgame.community members. 

While I could go into a lengthy discussion of what happens on this episode I'd rather you just listen. However, I am rather proud of myself as I do manage to derail a conversation on Fifa 12 into the histroy of tampons.

Ladies and gentelmen as the Royal wedding is upon us here? in the glorious Untied Kingdom we decided this was the perfect time to further celebrate our Britishness by bringing you episode 9 of BritToid: Destructoids British gaming focused podcast.

We start with games of the week where Germany has another delightful indie rant while Seto tells us he can't play half-life because it makes him vomit. Chris browns penis makes another 'appearance' and Seto explains why he bought a 3DS and A DSi XL despite having a DSlite and Jim isn't the only Dynasty Warriors fan on staff. 

The news this episode looks at the console launches and how GAME staff were being told to purchase brand new consoles to sell them as second-hand and how Apple own our souls. GAME also de?cide&nb?sp;to launch a gaming expo this year -- not to everyones excitement and we give a salute and farewell to the now deceased gaming website UK Resistance who brought us the Blue Skies in Gaming campaign.

Oh yes, it is time a??gain for BritToid, the now European-focused gaming podcast for Destructoid.

This week we will be looking at Christmas and lay down our predictions on what we think will dominate sales (and I will be banning anyone from saying Black Ops so they may actually have to do some thinking). The big topic for this episode will of course be concerning Panorama. Anyone who Watches British TV will know that Panorama is a long-standing show that discusses current affairs, and funnily enough this weeks will be about videogames. Naturally, the European gaming community is ready to d?efend? itself from what is likely to be bad press, despite the BBC supposedly being impartial.

In other news I think I have managed to correctly set up the BritToid.destructoid Skype account, and ask you all to call in and leave a voicemail giving your opinions on how you feel the general population see gaming, how general press sees gaming, and what you think this industry can do to make it more accessible (if it isn't already). Try to keep any voicemails under three minutes, and we will feature the best (or however many we get). If that doe??sn't interest you, then you know what? Just leave us anything, because we could use the love.

Welcome to a very special episode of BritToid coming to you from gamescom 2010! We see a few changes to our team this week as the?? lovely Andy is ba??ck in England and N0brien is currently driving back from Berlin. I along with Seto, Sean and Maurice "Professor Pew" Tan discuss our games of the show from gamescom and of course, what we found most disappointing.

We also discuss the finer points of shaking our thang with Microsofts Kinect, we take a look at Enslaved (however Sean seems reserved towards it), Seto gets all up in some Kirby's Epic Yarn and Vanquish while I go high fantasy with Dragon Age II. We also get told off for the noise by our sh*tty neighbours before finishing up with what we were most disapointed wi??th, which was actually a lot harder to do than it sounds.

We take a look at the Xbox 360 Slim which happens to be selling well in the UK despite the brutal pricing for Kinect. We end the show on Seto's orders as we take a look at the developer awards only to finish off by discussing the end of top PC magazine PC Zone.
