Sometimes, we just want to gather our good friends around a table and give them a good scare. While it's possible to do that with any game, it's easier when a game is designed ??with horror vibes in mind. If you're on the hunt for those games, you're in luck.

To celebrate the scariest month of all, Humble Bundle has been running some special deals for some truly haunting gaming experiences. Firstly, there is the Call of Cthulhu bundle. The bundle offers every possible shape and option for you to encounter some Great Old Ones and suffer greatly for doing so. Alongside all the books you need to play CoC 7th Edition, there is a litany of supplemental books to boost your campaigns, including Cthulhu Dark Ages and, my beloved, Pulp Cthulhu. Maybe you're into unique period pieces and wanna run something like Reign of Terror or Berlin The Wicked City. My suggestion? They've got a handful of advent?ures designed fo??r one-on-one play, in case you really wanna traumatize just one friend in particular. If you're looking for an excuse to dive into cosmic horror, this is a good way to start.

If you are looking to inflict a kind of horror that is slower burning, there's also a deal on the 5th Edition World of Darkness games. The core books you can pick up here are Werewolf: The Apocalypse, Hunter: The Reckoning, and, of course, Vampire: The Masquerade. Most of the bundle bolsters Vampire, but there's more than enough for all three, especially if you're?? diving into this strange world for the first time. Have you been curious to explore the dangerous and horrific political world of Vampire clans? Want to combat against creatures far stranger than yourself to delay the end o?f the world? Maybe you just want to fight against creatures that are as deadly as they are killable? If you've ever been curious to see what all the talk is about, here's your chance.

The Call of Cthulhu bundle is $25 for everything on offer. The World of Darkness bundle runs $40? for its collection. Both bundles run until the end of October.

All the tentacles you could wish for

If you're a fan of old-world cosmic horror, then it's a good season to be a Switch owner. Not only are The Sinking City and Vampyr both making their way to the Nintendo platform within the immediate future, but so is Cyanide's grim adventure Call of Cthulhu.

First released for PC and consoles in October 2018, Call of Cthulu has players take a peek into the troubled mind of investigator Edward Pierce, who is called? out to ??1920's Boston after a mysterious fire wipes out an entire family. Upon arrival, it becomes quickly apparent to Pierce that there are forces at work beyond his comprehension, dark forces that claw at his troubled mind, attempting to pry away the remnants of his own sanity.

Call of Cthulhu, a bonafide sleeper hit, was quietly released to almost universal praise from critics. If you missed out on this skin??-crawling adventure into a man's nightmares, then maybe this new Switch port will get offer a new opportu??nity to get wrapped up in its slimy tendrils.

??Call of Cthulhu launches on Nintendo Switch October 8 and is available now on PS4, PC and Xbox One.

Focus Home Interactive ports in development

Focus Home Interactive has revealed that two of their 2018 releases are currently being ported to Nintendo Switch. These titles are DONTNOD's grim adventure Vampyr and Cyanide's weird RPG Call of Cthulhu.

Released for PS4, PC and Xbox One in June of last year, Vampyr follows th?e nefarious nocturnal activities of Victorian doctor Jonathan Reid, who is forced to make some pretty conflicting decisions after being cursed with vampirism. Well, you would, wouldn't you? Players guide Reid through his journey into the night, using dialogue trees and the doctor's grisly, new-found abilities in a quest to find a cure for his affliction.

Call of Cthulhu, launched on PS4, PC and Xbox One last October. It is the story of a severely troubled investigator, Edward Pierce, who attempts to stave off his demons whilst investigating a mysterious fire that claimed the lives of an entire family. Set in 1920's Boston, Call of Cthulhu blends survival horror with RPG elements for an adven??ture designed to give you the willies.

Vampyr and Call of Cthulhu are currently in?? development for Nintendo Switch.

Tenticular fortitude

This week sees the timely launch, given the season, of Focus Home Interactive's Call of Cthulhu. The publisher has dropped one final trailer to put the willie?s up folk before the adventure's release.

In Call of Cthulhu, players step into the troubled shoes of private investigator Edward Pierce. Down on his luck and addicted to the evils of alcohol and drugs, Pierce sees a chance for redemption when tasked with investigating the death of th??e Hawkins family, killed when their home bur?ned to the ground.

Players will investiga??te 1920's Boston, searching for clues to the family's sad demise, and ultimately uncovering far more in the realms of the supernatural and the rising of what is possibly author H.P. Lovecraft's? most known creation, Cthulhu.

Weird Tales, indeed

Tentacle-bearded freakshow Cthulhu will be summoned at the most appropriate time lat??er this year. Lovecraft's most famous abomination u?nleashes the full force of his terror the day before Halloween.

Cyanide Studio has revealed a release date for Call of Cthulhu. The "investigative RPG" with the same name as Lovecraft's short story where he debuted the nightmare monster will la??unch on October 30, 2018. It'll be on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Truth be told, there's a chance we won't even see the big guy in this game that's titled after him. Cyanide has focused more on cult-centric weirdness and descent into paranoia-driven insanity. But, while Cthulhu is never explicitly shown, plenty of the screenshots overlook the sea. If Cthu??lhu's gonna show up, there's where he'll be.

"Only time can heal your affliction."

Cyanide Studio's upcoming Call of Cthulhu has all the trappings of a game steeped in the unknowable horrors of H.P. Lovecraft's Weird Fiction. That's a good thing, of course, considering that its name is lifted directly from the author's work. There?'s a certain pedigree associated with the Cthulhu branding, and judging by its latest trailer, the Focus Home Interactive-published title looks more than capable of carrying on the legacy of Outer Gods and rapid descents t??owards insanity.

Though Call of Cthulhu is described as an "RPG-investigation game," its recent E3 trailer leans more toward the horror side of things. Edward Pierce, the ??game's PI protagonist, wanders through dimly lit corridors, underground chambers, and strange workshops with the kind of persistent unease commonly associated with Lovecraft characters. Pierce came to Darkwater Island for a reason -- something about the mysterious death of an entire family -- but it isn't long before everything goes to hell in an eldritch handbasket.

There are cultists and scenes of sanity-warping visions as Pierce stumbles onto an otherworldly conspiracy. It's tense and grabbing, especially towards the end, when Pierce awakens in a hospital where a doctor -- who it's safe to assume is One Bad Dude -- calms him with some drugs and the assurance that everything he's seen was "just a nightmare." Cosmic visions, mad doctors, and the hushed insistence that the Great Dreame?r awakens from its slumber set the scene for a game that seems to scratch that Lovecraft itch like nothing has in a while.

Call of Cthulhu is slated to release later thi??s year on PC, Xbox One,?? and PlayStation 4.

Hoping for the best here

I can already tell it's going to be a long road to Call of Cthulhu's 2017 release, but I'm hopeful we'll g?et to see how Cyanide is handling its investigation-centric horror gameplay s??hortly here.

Today's trailer mostly reiterates the basic beats. Our protagonist, Edward Price, is a 1920s Bostonian private investigator looking into the unusual death of the Hawkins family on Darkwater Island. The island lives up to its name. A spooky robed man with a slash??ed-up face is doing god-knows-what and somewhere Cthulhu is dreaming, preparing for its great awakening.

Staying sane is a concern. "[A]s your investigation brings you closer to Cthulhu's sphere of influence, madness will progressively engulf your sense??s, leaving you to increasingly question what is real and what is illusory. They say that madness is the only way that can bring you to the truth and you will have to balance your sanity against your determination to discover it!"

Cyanide and publisher Focus Home Interactive have emphasized that there will be "stealth mechanics," and I'm anxious to see how much of a role they actually play. Like, can I shoot the horrible monster men, or am I going to have to just hoof it every time I get spotted and hide out?

What are the odds we'll make it off Darkwater Island?

Those first two character-less images of Cyanide's Call of Cthulhu weren't exactly illuminating, but today's screenshots offer more insight into the investigation-driven ro??le-playing game.

What are we looking into, exactly? As a private investigator living in Boston in the 1920s, we'll try to uncover what happened to a woman, Sarah Hawkins, and her family. They have (err, "had"; they're all dead now) a manor on Darkwater Island and, oh boy, this isn't going to end well for anyone.

There's promise of "psychological horror and stealth mechanics," as well as the looming threat that Cth?ulhu is preparing for its "awakening." I l??ike the way they're approaching this adaptation, so far.

[Update: That was quick. Focus Home Interactive and Cyanide have sent over a pair of screenshots and som??e ??new information about the game.

Call of Cthulhu will be a?n 'Investigation-RPG' (whatever that is) with stealth mechanics, as you'd probably expect from a p?sychological horror game.

It’s been two whole years now since that new Call of Cthulhu game was announced. Long, long ago, Sherlock Holmes developer Frogwares and publisher Focus Home Interactive showed off some? mighty fine looking bits of?? art that really nailed the H.P. Lovecraft feel. And then it just vanished…

Now, two years later, the game has finally clawed its way out of the deep’s sweet embrace… but something about it has changed since it’s been gone. There’s a new developer attached: Styx, Blood Bowl and Arklash: Legacy developer Cyanide.

It’s an interesting change of events because Frogwares is also not going with Focus for its upcoming Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter like it did with Crimes and Punishments. I&rs??q??uo;d love to have been privy to some of the meetings between the two companies to find out what happened between them.

Still, I know they’re often a bit on the janky side but I’ve consistently liked Cyanide’s games. Of Orcs and Men and Styx: Master of Shadows were fantastic, Arklash was difficult but really neat, and even Game of Thrones was an enjoyable few hours. I’m pretty excited to see how they&r?squo;ll handle the Cthulhu mythos.

There’s not much else we know about the game right now, but apparently we’ll be getting the full website – presumably with?? more info and hopefully a few screenshots – “soon.”
