Richter and crew are set to return for another round of vampire slaying. Netflix confirms that Castlevania: Nocturne has been renewed for a second season.

The announcement comes a little over a week after its official? launch on September 28th. There is no release date, only that the project is in active development. We did get a brief teaser through some storyboards and layouts in the new trailer, though.

Total Eclipse of the Heart

The trailer confirms Alucard, which is no su?rprise if you've finished the first season. Considering Ricther's lineage of games, we're likely to see much more of Alucard in the coming season than we did in this one.

We also seem to see Juste Belmont, touching the grave of his wife Lydie Erlanger, who was a supporting character in Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance. His absence is explained in the show, but he could prov??e another? powerful ally for Richter and friends.

It does seem like the project is in the storyboarding phase, so chances are we won't hear anything for a while. However, director Samuel Deats said that the wait might not be as long as we think. For context, the first season of Nocturne was officially announced in June 2022, and premiered in September 2023.

The first season of Castlevania: Nocturne is available to stream on Netflix now. The original series, Castlevania, is also available to stream on Netflix.

With the premiere of Castlevania: Nocturne quickly approaching, Netflix has released a new trailer for the animated series. In the trailer, we get a glimpse of the characters, setting, and a piece of the story coming in the new series. Following the success of the original Castelvania animated series that ended in 2021, Castlevania: Nocturne continues the gory franchise with an all-new series ??that f??ocuses on the origin story of Richter Belmont.

The trailer is a wild, bloody ride as you could imagine for Castlevania. It's also got a banger remix Nocturne Version of the song Divine B???loodlines.

Live Digital World Premiere a day early

Even though the official release date is September 28, you can check out Castlevania: Nocturne a little early. According to Netflix, fans can tune in to Netflix on Twitch on September 27 at 12 p.m. ET and watch a live stream of Castlevania: Nocturne a full day early.

I've yet to watch the final season of Castlevania but this reminds me I need to do so ASAP. Hopefully Castlevania: Nocturne is as good as the original series,?? which sort of led to a bunch o??f quality animated series on Netflix.

Although you should definitely check out the original Castlevania, it's not necessary to watch Castlevania: Nocturne??. In fact, Netflix claims "If you’ve never seen a Castlevania show, gaming adaptation, or anime before: start?? here."

Update [July 27, 10:16 a.m.]: The new trailer is live, and features a whole lot of vampire slaying. Richter's journey takes place amidst the French Revolution, as he teams up with some new allies to take on a "Vampire Messiah." Already love the vibe and sett?ing of all this.

A new Belmont takes up the whip and mantle for the animated Castlevania series soon. Powerhouse Animation Studios has announced that Castlevania: Nocturne will have its Netflix premiere on September 28.

A teaser image was posted from the Castlevania Twitter account earlier today, with the confirmed date. There's another news beat on the way too, as a trailer for Castlevania: Nocturne will arrive on July 27.

Nocturne will follow Richter Belmont, the lead in Castlevania: Rondo of Blood who also appears in several other games. We don't know too much more at this point, but the forthcoming trailer will probably illuminate what's at stake. (Hold for applause.)

The original Castlevania run from Powerhouse followed Trevor Belmont, Sypha Belnades, and Alucard in a loose adaptation of Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse. It soon veered off into its own story, tying in plot beats from Castlevania history ranging all the way to 2005's Curse of Darkness. And it was, in my humble opinion, a pretty damn good series. The castle entrance fight in Season 2 is still an all-timer for me.

Streaming at large

Of course, this series arrives during a tumultuous time for streaming in general. Both the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) are currently on strike over, among other complaints, disputes with streaming companies. Animated work is part of this issue too, as late night host Stephen Colbert recently noted at a WGA animation rally.

Neither the WGA nor SAG-AFTRA have called for a boycott at this time, so it doesn't seem to affect Castlevania: Nocturne. But it's an issue worth looking into and learning about. A lot of creative talent goes into making shows like these. It's frankly amazing we get adaptations like Castlevania these days.

It's a sweet symphony

Netflix has confirmed a new Castlevania animated series is on the way, and it's centered around a new Belmont. Castlevania: Nocturne is officially in productio?n for Netflix, featuring Richter Belmont.

The new trailer from Netflix's Geeked W?eek stream doesn't show too much, other than a good look at Richter himself. Still, he's here, in full Belmont garb and whip in tow.

Richter is a descendant of Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades, so that should make for an interesting continuation of the show. And longtime Castlevania fans are probably already very excited about Nocturne tackling Richter, considering his source material. Video game Richter means both Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night could be fodder for adaptation.

The series will be led by showrunner Kevin Kolde and c?reator/writer Clive Bradley, and produced by Project 51 Productions with production services from Powerhouse Animation.

Rondo round the world

Considering the Castlevania Netflix series has traditionally been a looser adaptation of the source material, I wouldn't expect Castlevania: Nocturne to be a full-on retelling of Rondo of Blood or Symphony of the Night. That said, Ric?hter alone provides a lot of fodder for potential story beats between those two games. Plus, having Richter here means we could see the return of Alucard. Who doesn't want that?

We got a tease of this last year, but it's excellent to see the Castlevania adaptations are carrying on. While the streaming service has had some standouts in the adaptation department, Castelvania remains one of my favorites. The storming-the-castle finale of Season 2 is forever seared in my brain. I'm more than ready for some advent??ures with Richter.
