You know him, you love him, and even if you think you don’t â€?yo?u do. Prolific doesn’t even begin to describe Yuri Lowenthal’s voice acting career, as the actor has over 800 credits?? to his name across movies, TV shows, and video games.

When Lowenthal is not voicing major superheroes and lovable main characters, he’s tackling all sorts of background characters in smaller franchises you may have heard of, like Mortal Kombat, Fallout, Mass Effect, and Final Fantasy. Most recently, he even confirmed his involvement in Helldivers 2, a performance, "heavi??ly inspired by Starship Troopers."

I could write a novel-l??ength piece about Lowenthal’s ridiculous career, but this little overview into just a smattering of his best roles will have to do.

Ice-Man/Bobby Drake (X-Men)

It’s hard to really make an impact in the X-Men franchise. There are so many characters with so much history that most fans already have their favorites picked out. Despite that, Lowenthal definitely managed to move the needle when he portrayed Bobby Drake, and he made Ice-Man into a top-tier character for a generation of X-Man fans, myself included.

He voiced Ice-Man in Wolverine and the X-Men back in 2008 and again in 2014’s Marvel Disk Wars: The Avengers. The Wolverine series is t??he only one that’s really worth watching, but Lowen??thal is a joy in both shows.

Tobias Nebbins (Catherine)

This is the first character I think of when I think of Yuri Lowenthal, but admittedly I’m a bit of an oddball. Toby was a supporting character in Atlus' 2011 Catherine, and his cringe-worthy, but somehow charming, obsession with finding love has stuck with me ever since. Toby is a great example of how Lowenth??al evokes pathos, even in his comic relief performances.

More importantly, he’s emblematic of all the other work Lowenthal has done with Atlus, including multiple Shin Megami Tensei and Persona projects. In Persona 4 (and P4: Golden), Lowenthal plays Yosuke Hanamura, a core member of the investigation team. He played the lead character Makoto Yuki in Persona 3: Dancing in the Moonlight, and he recently had a small role as Eiichiro Takeba, the scientist who created Aigis, in Persona 3 Reload.

Ben Tennyson (Ben 10: Alien Force)

If you were a Cartoon Network kid like me, then you know exactly who Ben Tennyson is. In Ben 10: Alien Force, the conveniently named kid got access ??to an alien armband that allowed him to transform into different creatures. Naturally, he needed to take on a new alien form every week to deal with another extraterrestrial and existential threat to the p??lanet. Lowenthal voiced the character through multiple shows and video game tie-ins, and his performance elevated Ben from a goofy cartoon character to a bona fide sci-fi hero.

Frodo (Lord of the Rings)

Elijah Wood is inarguably our live-action Frodo, but for over a decade, Lowenthal has been the iconic Hobbit’s video game counterpart. Lowenthal first tackled the character in 2009’s The Lord of the Rings: Conquest on PC, PlaySta??tion 3, Xbox 360, and bizarrely Nintendo DS?.

Since then he’s played the character five more times in various video games, but it’s been a while since we’ve gotten to see him sink back into the role. His last outing as Mr. Baggins was in Lego Dimensions all the ??way back in 2015. Lowenthal’s take on the character is the only one that comes close to Wood’s portrayal, so hopefully, we’l?l see him back in the role someday.

He-Man and Orko

He-Man

Even when Lowenthal is playing heroes, he seems to gravitate toward characters who rely on brains over brawn. Whether it's Peter Parker or Donatello, Lowenthal doesn't often end up being the voice behind muscle-bound warriors like He-Man. But in Netflix's Master of the Universe, Lowenthal ste?pped into the shoes of the mightiest hero around and nailed it. There’s a definite throughline from Lowenth?al’s previous roles to He-Man, but if you aren’t already a believer (and really you should be), then this show will prove to you that Lowenthal doesn’t just play one-note heroes.

Sasuke Uchiha (Naruto)

For a long time, it was easy to say that Sasuke Uchiha was Lowenthal’s most iconic character. Now there’s a certain web slinger who’s vying for that title, but for a generation of anime fans, Sasuke is still the man. Lowenthal started voicing Sasuke when Naruto started airing in 2007, and since then he’s stepped into the vocal booth countless times to pick ?the character back up.

More than any other character, Sasuke has given Lowenthal the chance to act his way through an entire heroic journey, complete with epic failures and inspiring redemption arcs. I’m not going anywhere near the subs v dubs debate, but Lowenthal’s talent alone is a compelling reason to experience Naruto in English.

Screenshot via PlayStation YouTube

Spider-Man/Peter Parker

Everyone knows that Lowenthal voiced Peter Parker in the PlayStation Spider-Man games, but that franchise wasn’t his first outing as the wall crawler. Lowenthal actually first voiced Spider-Man in two different 2008 video games: ZEN Pinball and Spider-Man: Web of Shadows.

Since then, he's voiced the character more than a dozen times in various animated shows and video games. In my opinion, Lowenthal is one of the best Peter Parkers that we’ve ever go?tten. He’s got the comedic timing that makes the webhead so entertaining, but he also really understands the more tragic aspects of the character. In his performance as Peter, Lowenthal really captures the melancholy optimism that has been a part of the character’s comic book persona for decades.

...and as savory as you'd expect

If you told me back in 2011 that Catherine was going to make its way to a future Nintendo console, I would have let out the most uproarious laughter and/or that cute Animal Crossing question mark reaction. My, ??how t??he times have changed.

Here we are in the year of our lord 2020 where literally nothing makes sense anymore, so why not port one of the most erotic puzzle games of all time to a Nintendo console? Seriously though, it's a smart move on Atlus' part to expand the Catherine: Full Body remaster to other consoles – especially one that is made for portable transporta????tion.

However, it's a completely dif?ferent story if you want to play this one in public...

Vincent

For those who need refreshing, Catherine is a puzzle game slash (arguably) dating sim where the protagonist, Vincent, is trapped between sticking with his long-term girlfr??iend or moving on to a mysteriously obsessive new hotness. His punishment for being a trashbag human is to su??ffer through climbing a tower of blocks each night, ending with a judgment on his character.

Players alternate between evenings of chatting wi??th Vincent's friends at a bar, sending texts to the C/Katherines, and solving the nightmare puzzles that make up the core of the game.

Catherine: Full Body is the remaster that came to PlayStation 4 last September which included a new character, Rin, along with new cutscenes and other fun additions. Ten months later, it's arrived on the Switch,?? and is about as solid as any port can hope to be. When playing through, it felt like the original experience all over again, this time with beefed-up graphics and new stuff to watch.

The one minor gripe I have with the Switch version is t?hat I'm not the biggest fan of the Joy-Con's d-pad, so solving some of the block puzzles can be slightly frustrating or inhibiting if you're used to a stronger controller, but with a Switch Pro Controller, it shouldn't be that much of an issue.

Moving blocks in Catherine: Full Body on Switch

For anyone who hasn't gotten the chance to play the Full Body experience yet, a few of the added features (like multiplayer) – along with the remix puzzle format, content, cutscenes, and endings – are definitely worth the jump. The Full Body Bonus Content DLC, which has some ??fun upgrades like glasses that show characters in their underwear, is also included in this $49.99-at-launch Switch port (for comparison, the DLC is currently sitting at $2?4.99 on the PlayStation Store).

As for the Switch port, I enjoyed the game mechanics outside of the Joy-Con experience, and the music and cutscenes were surprisingly crisp. However, for those who have already played through the Full Body PS4 release, there's not much difference?? with the Switch version outside of the DLC bonus conte?nt and the ability to take the game to a public space.

Although let's be real, nobody is getting close enough ??to you in a? post-coronavirus world to see the weird stuff you play.

Blood & Wine

Atlus has announced that it will be releasing a demo for the Nintendo Switch port of its saucy puzzler Catherine: Full Body, ahead of its official release July 7. Available to download from the eShop on June 11, the demo will let players experience the first two days of Catherine's trippy tale of twisted romance.

Catherine: Full Body, already avail?able on PS4, is the expanded edition of 2011 PS3 and Xbox 360 release Catherine. Full Body features an expanded story, adding new girl "Rin" to the already combustible cast of characters. Gameplay-wise, Full Body adds a selection of new difficulty settings, an "auto-play" option, new stages, and a "Remix" mode, which adds new mechanics and tricks to the ga??me's tower-climbing, block-shifting puzzles.

Catherine: Full Body launches on Nintendo Switch July 7. It is available n?ow on PS4.

95% chance, but this is XCOM, so...

The Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea has recently added two new entries, suggesting that Nintendo Switch ports are en route for Atlus' Catherine: Full Body and 2K Games' XCOM 2 Collection.

As spotted by YouTuber GameXplain, the two titles quietly appeared as p??art of a list of games newly-rated by the Korean body. While this is no official stat??ement of release, it has become increasingly rare that titles listed by game rating boards do not eventually see the light of day.

Catherine: Full Body is the 2019 revamp of 2011's bizarre platform-puzzler, Catherine. Full Body includes overhauled gameplay, an online battle mode, new story elements and a selection of difficulty levels. The Japanese release also included Persona 5 crossover DLC.

XCOM 2 is the latest entry in the famous sci-fi strategy series, and sees players attempt to overthrow Earth's alien oppressors through adaptation, smart decision-making, careful planning, and even budget management. XCOM 2 Collection launched in 2018 and includes the original game plus four DLC expansion packs; Resistance Warrior; Anarchy's Children; Alien Hunters

If we hear of an official confirmation of either port, we'll be sure to let you know. In the meantime, Catherine: Full Body is available now on PS4, while XCOM 2 Collection is available now on PS4, PC, and Xbox One.

When banging on about it for years isn't enough

Publisher Atlus has released its annual customer survey in its home territory of Japan, which this year includes a new and tantalising question specifically asking which Atlus releases fans would like to see ported to the ??Switch platform.

The survey question... in question... asks the reader which releases would garner public interest, should they hypothetically receive a straight port (with no new or additional content) to Nintendo's console. The checklist includes a run of Shin Megami Tensei titles - including Personas 1-5 and Persona Q - the Etrian Odyssey series, Catherine: Full Body, Devil Summoner, and Dragon's Crown Pro.

Now, this could easily just be generic stat-gathering - the existence of a survey doesn't guarantee we'll see any of these ports come to fruition. But similar surveys from Sega lead to ports and localisations of titles such as Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise and Yakuza Kiwami. Given fans have been clamouring for a Switch port of the Persona series for a long time now, here's hoping? that Atlus will finally?? listen to the people.

Which Rin should I choose?

Those wishing to get a taste of what's new in Catherine: Full Body can now head onto their PS4s and download the new demo. Sega and Atlus have uploaded the sampler to the PSN for everyone ahead of the remaster's September 3, 2019, launch. While only a small portion of what the full game will have, the demo tasks you with making a decision between which Catherine you'll pursuit.

From what I played at E3, Full Body feels like a very faithful update to the cult classic game. I'm not sure about some of the finer details regarding the new character, Rin, or how certain story segments will play out, but the game isn't far from release. With only a few short months left, why not give this latest demo a try and see if Catherine is right for you. Katherine may be a better fit for the more con?servative?? among us, however.

Gallery Nucleus will host the event

Atlus has announced that it will be teaming up with Gallery Nucleus to put on a Persona 5 Royal and Catherine: Full Body art gallery in LA next month. Similar to what Sega held last year for Yakuza 6, this exhibition will be a showcase of various pieces related to the games in question. There is set to be some kind of interactive installation (likely related to a famous landmark from the ga??me) and a photo-op wall.

Running from August 17 until September 1, 2019, the showcase will feature tribute art for both titles as well as pieces created by fans sourced by Gallery Nucleus. Special pieces of licensed Atlus merchandise will be available for purchase during the gallery's duration. Not only that but on opening day, famed character ??designer Shigenori Soejima will be making an appearance.

Soejima will be present from 1:00 pm PST until 7:00 pm PST on Saturday, August 17. He'll be hosting a special opening day ceremony and panel where fans will be able to ask questions and get items signed. Pre-registration for the opening day event will begin on August 2 over on Eventbrite. While admissio?n is free, spots will be limited,? so make sure to bookmark this page to remind yourself.

Joker performs for the peanut gallery

In fairly unsurprising news, Atlus has announced that Catherine: Full Body's Persona 5 DLC - which originally launched a?longside the puzzle game remaster in Japan last year - will also be making the leap overseas when Full Body launches worldwide.

The Persona 5 Joker & Phantom Thieves Commentary Set allows players to play as Persona 5 protagonist Joker in Full Body's Babel and Colosseum modes. Shouting encouragement from the ?sidelines will be Lady Ann, Ryuji, Futaba and the rest of the Phantom Thieves, cheering Joker on as he makes his way up the constantly shifting block towers.

As you may have noticed from the trailer, the English cast from Persona 5 have returned to lend their voices to the DLC, which comes complete with the Catherine: Full Body Premium Edition, or will be made available for purchase separately after release. What with his appearances here, in dancing titles, Smash Bros. and even his own re-release, tha?t Joker sure gets around.

Catherine: Full Body launches September 3 on PS4.

Now in more HD!

The announcement of Catherine: Full Body two years ago took me by surprise. Whil??e I remember enjoying the original ve??rsion a lot -- save for its shark jump of an ending -- I was curious why an enhanced re-release was coming instead of a simple port or sequel. Fans like Catherine and the game has de?veloped a competitive sc??ene around its block moving gameplay, but why was Atlus tweaking the original instead of developing a continuation to the story? I likely won't ever get an answer for that, but there are some more pressing things that concern me with Catherine.

While fans are passionate about the game, its nightmarish setting, and the characters in it, the handling of a specific character is often criticized as the weakest aspect of the original. The waitress of the Stray Sheep bar, protagonist Vincent's regular haunt during the story, is a trans-woman named Erica. That detail flew over my head the first time I played it, but there were some jokes at her expense with punchlines that amounted to, "She's a dude!" The credits of the game also listed her as Eric, opting to dead-name her rather than usi?ng the name we all knew her by.

I've grown since then and have come to understand how poorly Erica was written, despite her being a powerful fi??gure. I just remembered her as a woman, exactly as Erica would want. Needless to say, fans are dying to know what is going on with Full Body and Erica, especially since playe?rs of the Japanese release have been spreading out-of-context information regarding her role.

Catherine: Full Body

While I wasn't able to get specifics on how her dialogue is being tweaked or changed for this new port, I?? was told that th??e localization team for Full Body is fully aware of how fans have been reacting to leaks about the game's new story elements and endings. Jonathon Stebel, co?mmunications manager for Sega and Atlus, assured me that none of the content from the Japanese release is being altered. Onc??e players are able to experience the full story, they'll be able to see the context for certain scenes and the work that has been done to improve the original story.

That may not be the best answer, but it does appear to be the mantra of this re-release. Instead of alienating potential fans by doublin?g down on the brutal difficulty of the o?riginal, Full Body has some new accessibility features for those that simply want to ex?perience the story. On both the "Easy" and "Safety" difficulties, a?n auto-play feature will allow players to skip the nightmare block segments that Vincent experiences at night. It works almost identically to what Nintendo used to do with the "Super Guide" in its games.

Al??ong with that, a technique list has been added to the portions in between nightmares. From the podium where you save your game, you can pull up a list and short explanation of every move you've acquire?d throughout your hellish journey and see a short demonstration of them play out. Catherine is a ridiculously complex game for something that can be su??mmed up as "block ??puzzles," so it's nice to have a list to refer back to if you've forgotten past elements.

Catherine: Full Body

These are subtle refinements of a formula that is still unique. I can't think of any other game that looks, plays, or sounds like Catherine, so it seems Atlus is taking this re-release as a chance to make the best damn version they possibly can. To that end, all new cutscenes and segments have been rendered with the Persona 5 engine, which natively supports higher resolutions and better lighting. The graphical presentation hasn't received a dramatic overhaul, but it does look sm??oother with some really deep, rich colors. I couldn't get confirmation if the whole game has ??been shifted to this engine, but you won't be spotting any transitions between old and new content.

This is even reflected in the voice acting, of which I was able to hear the ?English VO option. I can confirm that everyone from the original cast has returned. For those unaware, Troy Baker headlined the game's English VO and he was delighted to have the chance to revisit Catherine. You'd think he never left, though, as his new dialogue slots seamlessly into old cutscenes and sounds pitch perfect for what he recorded almost a decade ago. There are even flashback sequences added where the characters are ??much younger, but it all sounds natural. This also applies to Yuri Lowenthal, who voiced the young Toby in the original. Despite being older, Toby sounds exactly the same and it helps blend these new story elements into the existing script without a problem.

As for how the game feels to play, it's basically the same thing it was on PS3 and 360. Blocks have different elements to them that need to be accounted for in the heat of the moment. You pull things, shimmy across ledges, grab gold, and avoid horri??fying manifestations of your adulterous guilt. That isn't to say new elements won't be gradually int??roduced to the game, but veterans won't be fumbling with a revised control scheme or anything.

That's reassuring, too. While I didn't leave my demo feeling like I absolutely had to play this (the original? Catherine is still a fin??e enough experience in its own? right), die hards should be completely satisfied with everything that Full Body is bringin?g to the table. The jury is still out on whether or not Erica has been improved or handled properly, but this is shaping up to be much more than a simple remaster effort.

This game came out in 2011 and is still relevant

Catherine is a shining achievement for Atlus. It's out of th?eir classic JRPG? comfort zone and managed to spawn a speedrunning/competitive fighting game community out of it, on top of everything else it accomplished. It's no wonder why we're getting a re-release.

The confusingly phrased "enhanced port" is still coming westward in September, a whole seven months after Ja?pan received it. Dubbed "Catherine: Full Body," this PS4 (and Vita, in Japan: RIP) port boasts new content and enhanced visuals, as well as a Japanese audio track for t??he localization. It is indeed, full bodied.

Never played it before? I'd hate to spoil it for you, but Catherine is a rad, weird adventure that combines Q*bert style gameplay with a heavily occult-based dark romance motif. Odds are you've probably heard your friends rave about it: come September, you'll probably just want to finally pull the trigger already. The new trail??er below should give you a basic idea.

If funds are an issue, note that you can get the PS3 original for under 10 bucks used: so you have plenty of time to continue waiting to find out if all of the Full Body extras?? are enough to justify that very new $60 price tag.

Max out your Atlus confidant with American survey

"There you are, Inmate. Oh, we're so glad you finally joined us... Now listen up! Our masters at Atlus have had a profitable few years, thanks to the gifts generously bestowed upon you like Persona 5, Persona Dancing, Etrian Odyssey Nexus and Dragon's Crown Pro. Not that you deserved any of them. Anyway, it seems that our masters want to hear your feedback on these products. Why your opinion matters to anybody I don't know... Tell 'em, Justine."

"If you live in the U.S, then we have prepared a survey for you, helping us to attain enlightenment on your desired games, sequels and remakes... No doubt our masters wish to use your feedback in their upcoming plans. So, if you wish for a Persona 2 PS4 remake, or a particular... umm... 'Switch port,' then look to your heart and cap??ture this opportunity to fulfill those dreams. Don't forget to include your pers?onal details... I hear Caroline is most eager to receive them..."

"S-SHUT UP! Hey! Enough talk! This stupid survey's waiting for you right here. Huh, I guess we probably have to remind you AGAIN that it's only available to U.S. citizens. Now, hurry up and get to it... You better not l?et us down, Inmate."

Coming on PS4 this Fall

Atlus has finally announced a western release date for Catherine: Full Body, the?? revamped edition of 2011's sexy-scary puzzler. This version of the PS3 ??and Xbox 360 classic will be arriving on PS4 September 3, though it seems the PS Vita port may not be arriving with it.

Catherine: Full Body reunites protagonist Vincent with Catherine, Katherine and all-new gal Qatherine (or "Rin" for short), three very different women who turn his world upside down. Full Body features new cut-scenes ?and an expanded story, along with a host of new features and mechanics for use in the game's block-shoving puzzle segments. The western release will include both the?? English and Japanese dubs.

Also revealed was Full Body's "Heart's Desire Premium Edition", featuring a hardcover art book, steelbook casing, a collector's box, the game's soundtrack and a sheep plushie. It also contains the game itself, because we live in a world where I have to clarify such things. This edition is available to pre-order today over at the official site.

Catherine: Full Body la?unches in North America and Europe September 3.

Now's not the time to be dead

It's been a while since Catherine came out, about eight years actually, yet it's never escaped my mind. I loved playing through the game in 2011 and its block-moving puzzles paired with the Persona-esque flair left a huge impact on me.

So when I heard it was coming to PC, I knew I had to jump on it. It felt like the right time to re-live that experience and see if it would have the same impact on me all these years later. Here's one piece of advice though: if you played it on normal eight years ago, you are not ready to play it on hard now.

Tested on: Intel i7-4770k 3.50 GHz, 8GB of RAM, Geforce GTX 970, Windows 10. Framerate measured with NVIDIA GeForce Experience

Yeah, I instantly regretted playing on Hard mode, but damnit I stuck with it anyway and started to brute force my way through the puzzles. Anyway, take my advice: Hard mode is no joke, just stick with Normal and enjoy your time through Catherine Classic.

Another thing worth noting is, as the name implies, this is the 2011 version of Catherine except on PC. Catherine: Full Body is an updated version with a new storyline and plenty of new features that is coming to the PS4 next month. It kind of sucks to know that the release of a better version of the game is just around the corner, on a different system, but?? hey, at least this re-release is something, and it's st?ill great!

The PC Port of Catherine Classic ran very well for me. I have seen reports on the Steam forums of crashes and failures to launch, but I have not experienced much difficulty. I did have one crash, while changing some of the graphics options, but that was it. Other than that, Classic has run smoothly with no issues.

The framerate is not always at 60 frames per second, but for the majority of the time, it is. There are some elements of the gam?e where the logic is tied to ru??nning at 30 FPS and uncapping the framerate would cause issues. The video cutscenes are also locked at 30 FPS, since that's how the assets were created in 2011. It's rea??lly not an issue. During gameplay, I have rarely seen the framerate drop. It's more than just "playable", it runs very well. Of course you'll see plenty of anecdotal evidence of poor performance, but again, I haven't encountered anything like that.

I'd recommend a controller when playing through Catherine Classic. The game fully supports k?eyboard controls, remappable keybinds, and even updates the UI instantly when it recognizes an input change, but it just feels a bi?t clunky to use the keyboard to play. I had no issues using my Xbox One wireless controller, and its D-pad is pretty decent for the grid-based movement of the puzzles.

Perhaps the most important element of this PC port is the fact that SEGA is paying attention to performance and patching any issues. Earlier this week, they released a patch onto a beta branch of the game that looks to fix many of the early problems. So not only are they committed to this re-release, but they are even using beta branches before pushing those patches out onto the entire userbase. To me, this is crucial, because it shows that the developer cares about their product and that Classic clearly isn't a "port it and forget i??t" scenario.

If you've been itching to play Catherine for the better part of a decade but never owned a console to do so, pick up Catherine Classic. At only $20, it's an excellent way t?o experience the original title.??

Mistakes into miracles

We here at Pregame Discharge do not support the act of putting anything up Mario's booty hole. Bad things happen when that happens. Do you think Mario getting bigger with mushrooms is weird? Well, you don't wanna know what happens then when it goes up the wrong end. So, while you contemplate that thought, here's what's been happe??ning in video games:

  • Bungie is ditching Activision and taking Destiny with them!
  • Xbox One is getting mouse and keyboard support!
  • And yes, Soulja Boy (tell em') has another console!

Terrible thoughts of Mario's rear aside, Soulja Boy is back again with another handheld console! This time around, clearly taking inspiration from the concept of failure, his new handheld system resembles the PlayStation Vita! However, a Vita this is certainly not. It's literally just a knock-off AliExpress console known as the "Onleny."

Now rebranded as the "SouljaGame Handheld," (why he didn't just go with the "Soulja Boy" is beyond me). The only key difference from the Onleny system on AliExpress i?s the price bump of roughly $30 to nearly $100. What a deal! Funnier yet, he's also taken to Tw??itter to ask for donations to help fund these latest endeavors!

Discharged question of the week: Do you have any favorite knock-off consoles? I'm quite fond of the POP Station videos that Ashens has covered in the past.

Could Catherine Classic lead the way for other hits?

Yesterday, Sega/Atlus broke the habit of a lifetime by publishing one of their titles, Catherine Classic, onto PC. There's also the possibility that the?? marriage between Atlus and the Steam platform won't end there, this may be just the beginning.

"We wanted to give the PC audience the opportunity to experience Catherine for the first time as it was originally released," Sega said in a statement to PC Gamer. "Catherine Classic is the perfect way to accomplish that goal".

Also, very much of note, was the following "We hope to have more exciting news to share from Sega/Atlus in regards to publishing on PC in the future". Of course, this confirms absolutely zip, but no doubt has gotten a bevy of Persona fans (including this cat) twitching with excitement. While there's nothing to go on right now, it seems that following the launch of Catherine Classic, Atlus may be warming up to ??the idea of pushing their wares to a ??wider audience.

If you haven't made a Japanese account yet, do it

Catherine: Full Body, which is heading to Japan soon and at some point in 2019 in the west, is now playa?ble so long as you're willing to create a Japanese PSN account and grab the demo.

Demos, actually, as you can play Fully Body on both the PS4 and Vita as you work your way through the enhanced visuals and new content. Based on what I've seen?? of it, the demo seems to present an uncensored version of the game.

In order to access the link ??below you'll need to log in with your Japanese PSN account. Or, you can just as easily boot up your PS4, head into the PSN on that same account, and locate it by searching or through the demo tab.

Amazingly, I was called into action to create a PSN cross-regional account creation guide because of the PS3 demo for Catherine back in 2011! This franchise has a way of getting people to ??scr??amble to play it.

Fall into its beautiful nightmare

And Boom. After weeks of rumours and rankings, Atlus has finally launched Catherine Classic on PC, via the Steam platform. This release is an upscaled edition of the 2011 puzzle title, which blends box-shifting, tower-climbing actio??n with a bizarre and uber-trippy storyline of sex and sheep.

Catherine Classic features 4K visuals and, for the first time in the west, includes an option for the original Japanese soundtrack. Catherine Classic also boasts an unlocked framerate and customisable controls for keyboard and controllers. Speed counts for a lot in Catherine's puzzle mechanic so customisable controls should help you find your perfect finger form. Grow up. Unfortunately, alth?ough both multiplayer modes are included, it appears that there is no online multiplayer support. Bah.

A fully expanded edition of Catherine, Catherine Full Body, is also preparing for release on PS4 and PS Vita in Japan in February. Full Body will feature new story scenes, characters and challenges, whereas this edition released today is esse??ntially the original title with some visual polish.

Erica, Toby and pals step up to the challenge

Atlus has revealed, via Famitsu, that multiple cast members will be getting in on the block-shoving action of Catherine: Full Body next month, as a selection of DLC characters are l??aunching alongsid??e the remastered puzzle title.

The "Additional Playable Character Set" is launching as day one DLC (of course) and features a bunch of recognisable faces from Catherine's story, who can be used in the game's Colosseum and Babel mode. This set includes all three "Catherines" alongside Orlando, Toby, Johnny, Erica, Toby and Boss, all of whom are prepped to wrap their heads around Catherine's puzzles.

Catherine: Full Body launches in Japan next month, on Valentine's Day no less, and is a remastered and revamped edition of the bizarre 2011 release. A western localisation has been confirmed, but we are yet to receive a launch date. A special announcement ??is also planned for this Friday, so maybe we'll have more news for you then.

Hopefully not baaaaahd news

[Update: Catherine for PC has received an M rating from the ESRB. It's looking v??ery likely that the bloc?k-shifting nightmare is headed to the Steam platform in the near future.]

Here's a little lunchtime mystery for you. Over on the Steam community page for Bayonetta, the SEGADEV account ??has uploaded a photograph of a che??eky-looking sheep along with the simple phrase "Baa."

What could this mean? After all, Sega has been known in the past to use the Steam account??s of ?its games to tease the release of other games on the PC platform. If I had to make a guess, sheep instantly takes me to Catherine. Not only is the sexy puzzler published by Sega's chums Atlus, but there's been recent rumblings of a supposed Catherine Classic release on the horizon.

Of course, this is all unconfirmed speculation, but I thi??nk it's a less-than-woolly summation of this particular tease, even if Atlus are generally reluctant to port their wares to the PC platform. Anyway, what do ewe think?

I should write something...

Persona 5's handsome protagonist Joker is a busy kid. In between clearing Momentos of shadows, sitting his exams, and micro-managing his relationships with about ten different women, he's also found time to show up in Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Atlus' upcoming remaster, Catherine: Full Body.

In fact, Atlus has released video of the Phantom Thief in action, as he deftly climbs a tower in the block-sliding puzzle adventure. Cheered on by his associates, we get to see Jo??ker utilise the same stealth tactics and acrobatic movements that saw him through his own 100+ hour adventure.

Joker, who can be used in Catherine's Babel and Colosseum modes, is a pre-order bonus in Japan, and will be made available to purchase separately at a later date. Catherine: Full Body launches in Japan February 14, on PS4 and PS Vita. A western release is con?firmed, bu??t not currently dated.

Bitten off more than you can chew this time, pal

Earlier in the year, we learned of a surprising piece of crossover DLC that would see Persona 5 protagonist Joker/Ren/Akira/Whatever joining in the sexy puzzle fun of upcoming remaster Catherine: Full Body.

Courtesy of a live-stream featuring pro fighting game player Tokido, we now have gameplay footage of the master thief in ??action. In the new gameplay footage, we see Joker swapping out heart-stealing for block-climbing, while his fellow Phantom Thieves commentate on his actions.

Joker can be used in the Babel and Colosseum modes, but unfortunately will not be making an appearance in Catherine's twisted story, he's got enough of his own problems to deal with. Joker will be made available for download on release, or comes included with Full Body's special edition.

Catherine: Full Body launches in Japan, on PS4 and PS Vi??ta, February 14. A western localization has been confirmed but is yet to be dated.

Triple Trouble

Atlus, has part of the ongoing "Sheep Week" festivities, has released a third trailer for their upcoming sexy-nightmare puzzler, Catherine: Full Body. The new preview is a compendium of ?almost everything we know about the new edition of the 2011 title.

Over the span of nearly four minutes we get to see clips from the game's batshit anime sequences, block-budging puzzle action (including the various "safety" mechanics being applied to Full Body), the competitive multiplayer mode, a glimpse of new girl Qatherine, and even the special edition contents AND the crossover Persona 5 DLC.

We also get to hear news about a bizarre new addition; the "Nero Glasses", which will apparently change the trio of female leads into their underwear during select sequences. What a weird gimmick. Despite being essentially a simple remaster at heart, Catherine: Full Body appears to be stacked with new mechanics, modes, story chapters and content, making it a must-buy for fa??ns of the original.

Routinely forget about your free PS Plus games? You might be in for a frightful surprise...

Happy Halloween, ghoulish readership! As the days draw shorter, the air becomes crisper and the lattes taste spicier, the time for horror and gore is now upon us??. No doubt many of us will be spending All Hallows'? Eve playing a bunch of terrifying games, hoping to crap that not too many Trick or Treaters ring the doorbell so we can scoff all the miniature Snickers ourselves. But maybe your game shelves are a little empty? Or you are feeling a little uninspired by recent horror fare?

Never fear – if you’ve been a long-time PS Plus subscriber or even dipped your toe in the pool now and then, there may be a few fun terrors available to you for no extra cash. As far back as 2011,? I could find classic horror games that people got (technically) for free thro?ugh the subscription service, and will still have accessible on their account if they currently have PS Plus. So, what are the highlights?

[Note: the availability of these games may vary depending on your region; the list is accurate for the US.]

Silent Hill – PS Plus game in April 2012?, playable on PS3/PSP/PS Vita/PSTV

If you want a trip down memory lane, and games à la Potatovision don’t bother you, there would be worse places to start than the original Silent Hill. Following Harry Mason on a quest to find his daughter, who disappears after a car crash, the player stumbles across all manner of strangeness, including cults, drug rings and symbolic ?monsters.

It was a project borne from Konami trying to find something for one of its ailing teams to busy themselves with, and wound up being one of the company’s more groundbreaking franchises. Technically speaking, it is pretty wonky in 2018, with highly claustrophobic camera angles that simply come across a?s frustrating and a level of "moon logic" required to get the best endings. Not to even speak of how ugly and blocky the game will look blown up on a larger TV. Perhaps stick to playing this one on a Vita, with your head buried under the bedcovers.

BioShock 2?? – PS Plus game in January 2013, playable on PS3

The BioShock games find horror in more political roots, behaving largely as a cautionary tale against an out-of-control version of libertarianism and utilitarianism. The result is mutants and experiments, and the people left behind after the collapse of society. While BioShock Infinite is less about horror and more about the machinations of those looking to create a perfect society in Columbia, the original two BioShocks were more ??about…well, the biological shocks and horror.

BioShock 2 builds on the bond the player perhaps developed in the first game with the Little Sisters, having you step into the weighty shoes of a Big Daddy. Part of the frightening nature of BioShock 2 comes from the fact that you are tasked with protecting someone so vulnerable. What the Big Da?ddy suit lacks in survival horror subtlety, it makes up for in pure firepower and ability to wreak gory, genetica?lly-modified havoc upon foes.

(Psst: the Remastered version i?s currently on a heavy discount on Steam, but the reviews are pretty poor, so I would advise sticking to the original version.)

Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward – PS Plus game in April 2013, pla??yable on PS Vita/PSTV

Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma – PS Plus game in July 201??8, playa??ble on PS Vita/PSTV

VLR and ZTD are the second and third entries to the Zero Escape series respectively. The general premise of the series is quite similar to Saw: a group of people trapped in a location and given a series of puzzles to complete, with various rules on progression, in order to survive. VLR is heavily based on the Prisoner’s Dilemma and also ideas like colour theory, while ZTD falls over itself to include a whole host of logical and moral problems, such as the Monty Hall Problem and the nature of action ve??rsus inaction.

I much, much preferred VLR to ZTD. I felt like the plot to VLR tied itself up in a neat little bow, while ZTD got a bit out of control towards the end. VLR managed to make all of the characters sympathetic, while ZTD had a few poorly fleshed-out yet thoroughly detestable characters. VLR is a pretty game. ZTD looks clearly experimental and eerily similar in design to Deadly Premonition. However, it’s because ZTD tries something new w?ith its full motion presentation (as opposed to the traditional visual novel format), a??nd because it really ramps up the gore on its predecessor, that it earns a place on the highlights reel, too.

While it is a little harder to follow what is going on if you haven’t played 999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors (the first game in the series), the story is not hugely convoluted and a Wikipedia recap, or paying full attention to what is going o?n in VLR and looking up what you don’t understand, would suffice. You should definitely not miss out on VLR, and once that’s done, ZTD is worth it just for the spectacle.

Catherine – ??PS Plus game in May 2013, playable on PS3

If your idea of horror is commitment to another human being, or succubi, look no further than Atlus’ bizarre puzzle game/thriller Catherine. If you can’t wait for the Full Body PS4 reissue (with additional content) at the beginning?? of next year, the original game is a fun use of a few hours.

The puzzles are fiendishly difficult, so don’t be too proud to dial down the difficulty to ??Easy or Very Easy on a first playthrough. At the same time, this is not a game you want to play multiple times for the story; it is one of the shallower depictions of both men and women in the dating world that I’ve encountered in recent memory, so the plot seems to get less interesting on each successive attempt. But climbin??g to the top of a tower you’ve wrestled with over the course of 30 spent lives is an incredibly rewarding feeling, particularly when you have an ice witch or a literal butt monster pursuing your every step and trying to catch you out.

Deadly Premonition: Director’s Cut – PS Plus game in June 2014, ?pl??ayable on PS3

For some people, Halloween is the perfect opportunity to rewatch Shaun of the Dead, hunker down and wait for the incessant knocking on the front door to blow over. Horror and comedy make a surprisingly good pairing, and Deadly Premonition is a good example of this (whether the comedy aspect was deliberate ?or inadvertent).

Playing as Francis York Morgan, a man who turns up in an oddball suburban town to find a serial killer, the parallels with Twin Peaks could barely be more obvious. It goes for the slightly unreal aura of Twin Peaks, but overshoots and ends up in comedic Sinner’s Sandwich territory. Particularly if you enjoyed D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die, are currently trying out The Missing: J.J. Macfield and the Island of Memories, or? can’t wait for The Good Life, it might be worth digging this one out. You might not be creeped out by the Shadows, but you might be freaked out by?? the strange animation.

Resident Evil HD Remaster – PS Plus game in October 2016, playable on PS??4

While Director’s Cut was available a full five years earlier on PS Plu??s, the remastered REmake is such an impressive feat of modernisation, and the Lisa Trevor storyline is so inspired, that this is probably the superior choice. (Say no to tank controls!)

The classic tale of special operatives plonked in a m??ansion and uncovering secret scientific experimentation gone awfully wrong – or supremely well, depending on who you ask – became much more than a relic of the PS1 era with the GameCube remake, and the PS4 version sands off a few of the rough edges. It’s incredibly tense, punishing and bloody.

With the appearance of new enemies that are harder to kill and can destroy a playthrough out of nowhere, it might be less daunting to opt for the easier Director’s Cut. But i?f you want a challenge and genuine fe?ar, go for the newest edition of one of Capcom’s most famous games.

Until Dawn ?– PS Plus ga?me in July 2017, playable on PS4

Some people don’t want to be genuinely scared on Halloween, but instead revel in the unbelievable cheese of big-screen horror. Until Dawn knowingly draws from franchises such as Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream to retread old ground: a band of dumb teenagers up to not much good in the woods, who are picked off one by one. As long as the player has the nerves to keep their DualShock 4 steady when prompted, they can determine who dies and who lives, and find out more about how a bunch of relatively sp?oilt, privileged kids got themselves into such a mess.

Until Dawn relies on an appreciation for the overblown and? typical horror tropes, so if you’re more into arthouse horror flicks, this might not be quite your cup of tea. But if you’ve ever watched a goofy thriller and just wished you could have stopped that first naïve soul meeting a violent end, or just want to see more of Rami Malek, this might scratch that very particular itch. Itchy, tasty. Oops, wrong game.

Of course, the current spooky PS Plus game, Friday the 13th – The Game, is available right now, eve?n if you are ??a newer adopter of PS Plus. Additional horror-themed PS Plus games are listed below:

  • Resident Evil: Director’s Cut – PS Plus game in September 2011, playable on PS3/PSP/PS Vita/PSTV

Doesn't sound too baaaaahd

This coming weekend sees Nakano Central Park in Tokyo hold its annual Sheep Festival. I'll?? just right that again. Sheep Festival. Where folk gather from near and far to enjoy and celebrate lamb-related products.

In keeping with the upcoming festivities, Atlus has declared this week "Sheep Week" and plans to drop and series of trailers and contests pertaining to the upcoming release of Catherine: Full Body, which drops in Japan on PS4 and?? PS Vita February 14.

Having already released videos of Catherine's alternate voice actors, the rest of this week will see a Japanese twitter contest, a new trailer for the game, and the second in the weird "Theater of Love Problems" series. Catherine: Full Body will also be on show at the Sheep Festival itself, with a VS mode tournament also being streamed live.

Catherine: Full Body launch?es on PS4 and?? PS Vita in Japan on February 14. A western localization is confirmed, but there is no specific date window as of yet.

All gain, none of the pain

The main website for nightmarish sexy-time title Catherine: Full Body has been updated by Atlus, giving us a little more information on th?e new difficulty modes bei?ng implemented in the weird anime puzzler.

As displayed by the videos below, it looks like anybody who just wants to dive into the weird troublesome triangle of romance in Catherine's story won't have to strain themselves too hard when it c?omes to the game's block-climbing puzzle sections, as the new Safety Mode gives a plethora of options including removing traps, the ??time limit, and backpedaling whenever you make a mistake.

If that isn't enough, then you can straight up order the game to play itself, leaving your hands free to make a sandwich, create some ice sculpture, or check that Instant Gram site that all you k??ids are into.

For Catherine vets, the new Arrange Mode will shake up all of the stage layouts ??and even add new block shapes, in order to give you a fresh new experience with its array of mind-bending stages.

So it looks like whether you're a Catherine beginner, pro, or simply don't want to do any work at all, then Full Body will have you covered. Now, all we need is a date for the confirmed western localization. Catherine: Full Body launches in ?Japan on PS4 and PS Vita February 14.

Take a shot when CEO or COO is mentioned

Persona, Catherine and Etrian Odyssey publisher Atlus has had a shake-up at the top of its corporate structure, bringing in head honchos from Sega to oversee operations and projects from both vi??deo game industry corporations.

Ian Curran, the current President and COO of Sega of America has taken a dual-role, where he will now also be President and COO of Atlus USA. Sounds l?ike a busy guy. Meanwhile, Sega West's President and COO Tatsuyuki Miyazaki has accepted the role of Atlus USA CEO,? replacing former CEO Naoto Hiraoka, who steps into the brand holder's position.

"I'm eager to grow my role as the new Pres?ident and COO of Atlus USA Inc. and greatly appreciate the support that Mr. Hiraoka has given me up to this point," said Curran in a press release. "Across the SEGA and Atlus families, we've had an incredibly successful year, and there is st??ill so much to look forward to".

Miyazaki thanked his predecessor Hiraoka for being a "valuable asset" to the Atlus team, before speaking of his own excitement in his new role. "I'm thrilled to play a greater role in the continued success of Atlus U.S.A., Inc. and work alongside Ian, who has done an incredible job in just a couple ??of short months in his role as President and COO of S?EGA of America."

Atlus next major releases include the Western localisation of the Persona Dancing titles, the Japanese launch of Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth on Nintendo 3DS and 2019's re-release of sexy puzzle adventure, Catherine: Full Body.

Sexy psycho hangover

At this weekend's Tokyo Games Show, Atlus and Studio Zero revealed the opening movie to their sexy nightmarish puzzle game Catherine: Full Body. The credit sequence features protagonist Vincent lying in bed, preparing for ?a another night of sheep-and-block based madness.

While the credits roll, smartly integrated into the visuals, a remix of a classic Catherine track, by legendary game composer Shoji Meguro massages your ear canals. Catherine has a delightfully sleek-but-sleazy aesthetic, mixing gorgeous anime visuals, filled with beautiful people, with sharp sudden shocks and creatures that are pure nightmare-fuel. It's this blend of smooth, sexy style with unnerving imagery that gives Catherine its distinct identity.

Catherine: Full Body launches in Japan on PS4 and PS Vita February 14. The game is confirmed for the west, but a release date is yet to b??e announced.

That's 'Qatherine' to you, buddy

Atlus has released a brand new trailer for the upcoming remake of the bizarre, sexy, mind-snapping puzzle adventure Catherine: Full Body. The lengthy four-minute c??lip features footage from the remake's anime cutscenes, in-game machinima and platform-hopping puzzle sequences.

Along with the new video, pink-haired new star "Rin" has been officially dubbed "Qatherine". In a bizarre new feature, multiple soundtracks have been added, allowing players to pick from eleven different voice artists to play the role of blonde-haired temptress Catherine. Weird. As previously announced, new optional tweaks will give the player t??he opportunity to breeze thr?ough the game entirely with the minimum of effort. Go back a move, climb with one button, puzzle restart, the works.

A special edition has also been announced for Japan. The? set will contain a copy of the game on PS4 or PS Vita, various in-game it?ems, limited-edition artwork, a four-disc soundtrack set and a 44-page artbook, all housed in gorgeous new packaging.

Keeping the weird factor at an all-time high, Atlus has also noted that Joker, protagonist of super-popular RPG Persona 5, is to be made available as a DLC character. The heart-stealer can be used in Catherine: Full Body's Babel and Colosseum modes, all whilst his fellow Phantom Thieves provide commentary. You certainly didn't see that coming.

You can check out the new marketing reel below. I got a real kick out of the 2001: A Space Odyssey spoof. Catherine: Full Body launches on PS4 and PS Vita in Japan February 14, 2019. A western release is confirmed, but n?o date is forthcoming as of yet.

Which Catherine will be your Valentine?

Speaking in the latest issue of Japanese publication Famitsu, Atlus has revealed that surrealist puzzle sequel Catherine: Full Body will not meet ?its intended Winter 201?8 release in Japan, but will be arriving on PS4 and PS Vita in time for Valentine's Day, February 14, 2019.

The remake to the weird-but-wonderful PS3 nd Xbox 360 title will onc??e again see neurotic protagonist Vincent battle with?in in his heart, soul and mind over a trio characters; Catherine, Katherine and all-new third-wheel, Rin who are a part of his living-nightmare of a life. Players will guide Vincent through his weird dramatic exploits, while also taking on the fiendish puzzles that made the original title so addictive.

Catherine: Full Body will also be fully playable at the Tokyo Game Show 2018, which takes ??place from Se??ptember 20.
