As the name suggests, the Collector's Edition of Starfield is an elaborate package for those who wanted more than just the Bethesda game. For $299.99, the bundle notably comes with a Steelbook display case, a patch wit??h the Constellation logo, and a watch with its own custom case. However, some fans are now experiencing issues with the watch specifically, just one month after receiving it.

First spotted by The Gamer, a post on Reddit from user Tovrin says their collectible Starfield watch is now "dead". They go on to say that, after leaving it on charge, the item is no longer functional. Up??????????????????????????on initially contacting Bethesda support about this, the initial response wasn't quite so helpful. However, after the post went live, a representative for Bethes??da reached out regarding the issue.

Others in the thread chimed in with issues they've had with the watch. User AedarSIVA says their ??watch died within a week, adding that "the software seemingly bricked itsel??f". User UncompletedJute said their watch "died after four days," and they're still waiting on a replacement. Others, like user Pulse_Attack, notes that their watch simply had dead pixels. They stated that they've since received a replacement

While many testimonials here veer towards the negative side, some have reported positive experiences with the gadget. In response to another comment, user NoVanNoLife explains "I we?ar mine everyday to work and it's still working fine. Only charge it maybe twice a week and never leave it overnight, it's quick to get fully charged even from nearly empty."

Not just on Reddit, either

People outside that Reddit thread have also noticed defects with the Starfield memorabilia. Over on Twitter/X, @GameLogIQ said theirs froze up and won't respond. Additionally user @EtanUntouchable reached ou?t to Bethesda support after their watch stopped working "after 4 full charges."

Support did reply, asking for further details??. When provided with them, Bethesda assured @EtanUntouchable that an "agent will be with [them] as soon as possible."

The post goes on to say that the company is currently "dealing with increased?? volume, so wait times may be a bit longer than usual". We don't know if watch-related issues are holding up the support team, or if the company is busy in general.

Since we only have user testimonial to go off of, we can't say how far this issue goes. It's possible that Starfield owners with a defectiv??e watch are simply more vocal than those with watches that work just fine. Hopefully, Bethesda will be able to offer a suitable solution to those negatively affected soon.

It looks like Persona 3 Portable is getting the full Limited Run treatment. Limited Run Games revealed today a handful of special physical editions for Persona 3 Portable. This includes the Persona 3 Portable S.E.E.S. Collector's Edition. In between the standard and S.E.E.S. Editions is a Grimoire Edition as well. All three editions are available on all three platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Pre-orders for all versions will begin on September 29 at 10 a.m. ET via the Limited Run Games store.

Three Editions with different contents

The Standard Edition is priced at $34.99 and includes a region-free version of Persona 3 Portable.

The Grimoire Edition will set you back $69.99 but includes some cool physical goodies. Alongside the physical editions of the game for your chosen platform, you'll also receive a Persona 3 Portable Slipcover that goes with a special edition Grimoire B?ook Box and a SteelBook c??ase that has some very beautiful artwork on it.

Finally, there is the Collector's S.E.E.S. Edition with a price point of $199.99. This edition, clearly intended for collectors and diehard Persona 3 fans includes everything from the Grimoire Edition as well as a red and black S.E.E.S. Armband, a cool school patch for Gekkoukan Private High School, 11 Character Trading Cards, the Persona 3 Portable official?? soundtrack, an All Out Attack 3D Shadow Box, and an individually numbered Certificate of Authenticity. But, that's not everything. The big item in this collector's edition is a 1:1 Evoker Replica Shadowbox that even lights up.

We do need to talk about the elephant in the room. With pre-orders going through November 12, these Editions certainly won't ship out before the new Persona 3 Reload releases. While not quite as cool, it even has its own collector's Aigis Edition. Even though we know Persona 3 Reload won't feature content from FES or Portable, it does still seem a bit odd for this to be releasing when it?? is.

But, I have to admit, this is definitely one of the cooler collector's editions I've seen in a while, and it's nice to see the big item be based around such a staple item from the game. I can't deny I'm tempted to spring f?or the Grimoire Edition at least.

During the September 2023 State of Play, we got a Release Date Announcement Trailer for Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth. At the end of the trailer we got a first look at the Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth Collector's Edition, and oh boy is it beautiful. Included is a 19-inch Sephiroth statue—in pure Sephiroth form, might I add—as well as a sick-looking steel book. Unfortunately, you're gonna have to shell out a lot of Gil for this one. The Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth Collector's Edition is priced at $349.99.

Materia(l) things

As per usual with Square Enix Collector's Editions, supplies are limited and only available through the Square Enix Store. Full contents include the Deluxe Edition of Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, the Sephiroth statue, and the following DLC:

• Moogle Trio Summoning Materia (DLC)

  • A summoning materia that can call "Moogle Trio" in the game.

• Magic Pot Summoning Materia (DLC)

  • A summoning materia that can call "Magic Pot" in the game.

• Accessory: Reclaimant Choker (DLC)

  • A choker with an effect of restoring HP when an enemy is defeated.

• Armor: Orchid Bracelet (DLC)

  • A bracelet that gives courage to traverse an expanding world.

• Armor: Midgar Bangle Mk. II (DLC)

  • A bracelet worn by travelers leaving Midgar.

As much as I want this, I don't think I can justify it. The statue looks decent quality, but certainly not price-of-a-console quality. B?ut, for those who collect this stuff, I'm sure this is just what they were looking for. Still, it does feel like the price on these Collector's Editions continues to rise while the contents shift to mostly digital stuff.

For me it's all about the steelbook, which it ?appears actually comes with th?e Deluxe Edition which is priced at $99.99. That seems a bit more reasonable to me.

PQube has announced that it will be handling the western release of Inti Creates' Gothic Gals with Guns actioner Grim Guardians: Demon Purge �The publisher will launch the?? cool-looking title digital on consoles on February 24, with a range of physical releases also in the works.

Standard boxed editions of Demon Purge will be made available on PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch platforms this spri?ng, while a special Collector's Edition is expected to launch in summer 2023. This latter edition will include a boxed physical edition of the game on PlayStation or Switch, alongside a 40-page artbook, a sticker set and key ring, art cards, and even a fun origami set, representing the magic of our monster-mashing Kazimono sisters, Shinobu and Maya.

Grim Guardians: Demon Purge is a pixelated 2D adventure that marries a Castlevania's Gothic aesthetic with the run 'n' gun chaos of a Gunvolt. One or two players will lead the Kazimono sisters deep into the dark dungeons of a demonic castle, determined to purge its evil from their village school. Younger sibling Maya will be looking to bring down a battalion of hellish opponents with her lethal *checks notes* ori??gami skills, while her older sister Shinobu is, somewhat more tr?aditionally, going with good old-fashioned lead �delivered accurately and with speed.

Inti Creates' ??stylish-looking title shifted onto my radar at the end of the era, thanks to its cool pixelated visuals, cheesecake anime style, and interesting mix of magic and bombastic action. I'll be k?eeping an eye on this one, and I will hopefully find the time and opportunity to check it out for all of you folks right here at the good ship Destructoid. Lock 'n' load... and fold, I guess.

The Phantom Thieves have returned

Atlus has opened pre-orders on the long-awaited PS5, PC, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch ports of its mega-selling JRPG Persona 5 Royal. The Digital Edition is availab?le for wishlisting on various platforms or for outright pre-order on th??e PlayStation Network and the Microsoft Store.

For physical media fans, Persona 5 Royal is also available to pre-order on console in steelbook form at various retailers, priced at a pretty lofty $60 USD. This edition includes a physical copy of the game on the console platform of your choice, along with 40 DLC items such as costumes, music tracks, and mor??e.

For the more die-hard heart stealers, Atlus has revealed a "1 More" collector's edition, which is available exclusively at the official Atlus store. The snazzy set, which retails for around $120 USD, (not including shipping), contains a steelbook hard copy of Persona 5 Royal on the console platform of your choice, alongside a selection of character art prints, an arcana tarot deck, a replica of that pric??k Akechi's satchel, a "La Grimoire" art frame, and over 40 pieces of post-release DLC.

The set is housed in fun "treasu??re chest" style? packaging. Don't kick it open, though.

Nintendo is splitting out the game from the other contents of the Collector's Edition for Xenoblade Chronicles 3. While the base game will still launch on July 29, the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Collector's Edition ?contents won't roll out for Europe until after th??e game's launch.

In a statement, Nintendo says th?at due to "unforeseen logistical challenges," the company is unable to open pre-orders for the collector's edition until after the game launches.

Rather than hold off on selling the game, Nintendo will be offering the contents of the Collector's Edition as a separate purchase. That way fans can purchase Xenoblade Chronicles 3 at launch and not have to re-buy the software.

The Collector's Edition includes a softcover concept art book, a s?teel case, and the outer packaging that holds everyth?ing.

Pre-orders for the Collector's Edition contents will open sometime later in September. The special contents of the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Collector's Edition are expected to be delivered sometime around autumn 2022, and all items will be shipped with free delivery. A sought-after special edition

The rollout of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Collector's Edition hasn't been smooth sailing. The online store has had a few pre-order windows, and they were usually accompanied by waves of people sitting in a long virtual queue and not making it in. The online storefront even crashed for some. Nintendo has to host several waves of releases as it resolved issues with purchasing physical products on the My Nintendo Store.

Whether this will still be a sought-after Collector's Edition in September, we'll see. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is due out later this month on July 29. As Chris wrote in our preview, the RPG is so fa??r everything he needed it to be.

Koch Media has announced that the Omega Collector's Edition of The King of Fighters XV �previously confirmed for Europe �will be made available to North American players. Pre-orders will open soon ahead of the launch of the fist-throwing sequel, which launches on PC and consoles February ??17.

The King of Fighters XV Omega Collector's Edition includes a boxed copy of The King of Fighters XV on PS4, PS5, or Xbox One, as well as an exclusive slipcase, a 119-page art book, a double-CD soundtrack, and three art lithographs featuring SNK stars Iori Yagami, Terry?? A purchase for the ultimate fan

It seems like there are more Collector's Editions than ever these days. Just in the past few months, I've covered the release of Disco Elysium and Spiritfarer's special editions alone, and there are tons and tons more that seem to be cropping up all the time. This was usually the kind of thing you'd we'd only see with AAA titles, but now our favorite indie games are getting special treatment too, and right??fully so.

If you're buying a physical copy of anything these days?, you're usually going out of your way to do so because of how prevalent digital-only sales have become. It can already feel special to have that case sitting on your shelf, but for those diehard fans, the Collector's Edition is the way to go. The price can be a bit of a sticking point, however, because these packages can ?run hundreds of dollars, depending on the game.

Even if you're a bit skeptical, though, the studios usually always do a really good job of making sure you're getting a good bang for your buck. The contents of these super special (and expensive) releases usually come with a range of all kinds of goodies, from art books to statues to real-life replicas of in-game items. Some of the coolest items I've seen included are to-scale helmets from Doom Eternal or Fallout 4, a mini version of the house from Resident Evil VII, or the replica loot chest that came with the Collector's Edition of Borderlands 2.

Despite how cool some of the goodies are that come along in these editions, I think I'd only be willing to shell out the cash for the games that are most special to me. The only one available right now that's tempting me is indeed Disco Elysium, considering it's in my top three favorite games of all time, but I'm?? still on the fence about whether I want t??o spend that money right now.

As we continue to lean into digital-only purchases, it seems that this rise in Collector's Editions is a way to get more players to buy physical copies �and spend more money in the process. I don't have a problem with this at all, especially since studios often make their special editions feel like love letters to fans. However, you also have to be wary of less-than-satisfactory bundles, like that of Fallout 76 or The Witcher 3, for example.

Thankfully disappointing Collector's Editions seem like l??ess common occurrences, but after being burned in the ?past, I'm definitely skeptical when I'm going to spend that much money. That is why reviews and unboxing videos exist after all, which I have to remind myself before I get consumed by the hype.

So now I arrive at the questions du jour: h??ow much are you willing to dole out for ??a Collector's Edition? Do you have any, and if so, what was your criteria for the purchase? Did it have to do with the game/property itself, or what items were actually included in the edition?

It's not a "goodbye," just "see you later"

Any video game that can be described as "cozy" is always a win for me, and nothing could be truer for Spiritfarer, the indie darling of a management sim and sandbox action game released by Thunder Lotus games last year. I got really sick last December, which is when I actually decided to pick it up and give it a try, and it was the ultimate comfort when I was feeling miserable. It sounds like Spiritfarer has been a great comfort to other players, too, because the game just surpassed a million units sold across all platforms. This news is exciting enough on its own, but it gets even better, because it coincides with the release of Spiritfarer: Farewell Edition. 

Along with the base game, this edition will also include the brand new Jackie and Daria Update, as well as the previously released DLC, which introduced characters Lily and Beverly. Physical editions will also be available for PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch, and will include a 96-page digital art book, six collectible postcards and sticker stamp sets, and a digital copy of the game's soundtrack. A Collector's Edition is also coming, which will run you $199.99 and will include everything in the regular editions, as well as a fully functional Everlight Replica and a Constellation Lantern Display Box. The Collector's Edition is set to ship in early 2022, and both versions of the game are available to purchase or pre-order now on publisher iam8bit's website.

While we wish Spiritfarer could go on forever, Thunder Lotus has confirmed that the Farewell Edition marks the end of ??the release of any new upd??ates for the game.

$90 edition includes a PS5 disc and PS4 code

Barring any more delays (and here I am bracing for accusations of totally jinxing it), Gran Turismo 7 will be out on March 4, 2022. It's arguably too early to start thinking about pre-orders, but for those of you who are open to that possibility, or just love GT enough to be into a collector's edition, here's the latest. As announced on the PlayStation Blog, Gran Turismo 7 will have a 25th Anniversary Edition wit???h a rather sleek SteelBook case.

Aside from the cover art (and the included in-game cars, like the Castrol TOM'S Supra), the most interesting thing about the 25th Anniversary Edition is that it comes with two versions of Gran Turismo 7: a physical PS5 disc, and a dig?ital PS4 voucher code.

That might seem like a no-brainer, but it's a semi-surprising sight in the realm of cross-generation PlayStation releases. It's been a messy situation all around.

For $90, the physical Gran Turismo 7 25th Anniversary Edition comes with:

• 1,100,000 CR (credits)

As for other bonuses and cars, especially for folks who just want the dang game, the (pre-order) "Launch Edition" of GT7 comes with 100,000 credits, the Toyota Castrol TOM'S Sup?ra, Mazda RX-VISION GT3 Concept (Stealth), and Porsche 917K Living Legend.

If you're wondering about the eyebrow-raising "internet required for most functionality" warnings, it's true �GT7 is set up that way to "prevent cheating overall from people trying to modify the save data," per Eurogamer's interview with Kazunori Yamauchi.

Pre-orders open July 30 for Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PS Vita physical editions of Super Meat Boy

While not as skin-crawling as some of the nastier too-realistic-for-this-world close-up shots in Ren & Stimpy (or even SpongeBob), I feel like the box art for the Super Meat Boy Limited Run physical edition is very much on that same wavelength. It fits, though. It's the cover that this game, and fans of Edmund McMillen's worlds in general, deserve.

Announced in a jam-packed Twitter thread this morning, Limited Run is opening pre-orders for physical copies of Super Meat Boy for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita �??it's $30 across the board,? and there's a color manual tucked inside.

All three versions are region-free. While the Switch and PS4 editions are "open" pre-orders, Super Meat Boy's physical Vita version will on??ly have 1,000 copies ??up for grabs.

Pay special attention (read: zoom in on) Bandage Girl, ?who's made up of chewing-gum-pink bandages, and Dr. Fetus, who has creepy little baby hands.

That standard release will cut it for most physical-game-likers, but there's also a physical Collector's Edition with a Meat Boy figure (from Fangamer), a veiny double-sided poster, and a "meat tray" for the capital-f Fans. It's $75, and Limited Run is hosting pre-orders for Switch, PS4, and yes, even Vita, on the same day: July 30, starting at 7:0??0 a.m. Pacific.

One last stop for the midnight meat train: Super Meat Boy Forever, the auto-running platformer, is getting a Limited Run release across Nintendo Switch and PS4 for $35.

I'm curious �have you gone back to replay Super Meat Boy in recent years? I truly don't know how I ever kept up with this game. While I can still remember what it was like to be good at it, my sk?ills have completely evaporated. No muscle memory to speak of.

It's been a big week for fans of the No More Heroes series and the larger "Grasshopper Manufacture Extended Universe." Copies of Limited Run's collector's editions of the first two No More Heroes games (featuring art books co-written by yours truly) have begun arriving in mailboxes. The Silver Case 2425, a collection of two visual novels from early in Grasshopper's career, also just made it out to customers. The limited physical edition of that game comes with a special Silver Case comic book that co-stars Midori Midorikawa, a teenage girl who can eff??ortlessly kill a group of ho?rny idiots.

She was also recently confirmed to be a boss in No More Heroes 3. We can only imagine how she'll end up getting along with Travis, gaming's most notoriously idiotic, horny hero.  Then again, Travis has changed a lot over the years. He even wears a "Fuck Racism" t-shirt in this new game, a deci?dedly socially conscious move for a once selfish man. It's anyone's guess ?as to where this is all going.

There are also hints that No More Heroes 3 will cross over with Killer 7, another one of Grasshopper's rabidly-adored titles. Yesterday, the official site for the game revealed that the text adventure stories from Travis Strikes Again will continue into this new game. One screen from this decidedly retro mode strongly hints at an appearance from  Killer 7's Young Harman Smith. It's a stretch, given that we just have this one screen to go on, but this wouldn't actually be the first time the two games crossed paths. It's also worth noting that the prior text adventures for Travis featured appearances from both Dracula and Epona (from the Zelda ser?ies). In the same scene. So again, anything's possible.

The only thing we know for sure is, the time for this kind of fanciful speculation is almost over. No More Heroes 3 launches next month, and just like with No More Heroes 1, 2, and The Silver Case 2425, it's getting a physical? collector's edition, this time from Pix 'N Lo?ve. I have to guess tha??t they waited to announce this package until those other special editions from Grasshopper had been delivered. By the lo?oks of it, the timing was perfect. The site actually went down from excessive traffic earlier in the day. It's back up now, so I'd jump on the chance to check it out while you can.

This collector's edition comes with a 96-page art book, four lithographs, and a cardboard sleeve, and wouldn't you know it, they're only making 2,000 of them. History has shown that this artbook may end up being the rare first appearance of a new character that will end up being an important boss in some future Grasshopper title, so Gras??shopper fans like myself have basically two choices here: buy now or fear missing out.
