As if there weren't already a ton of outfits available for Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate characters, here's yet another collection that may or may not be worth your money. If you like watching people fight in towels and bedroom attire, th?is collection will be right up your alley.

The “Bath And Bedtime” set for the ladies of DOA5 Ultimate will cost you $14.99 and includes bathtime wardrobe changes for Ayane, Helena, Tina, and Rachel. Bedtime costumes are for Kokoro, ??Hitomi, Marie Rose, Mila, Leifang, and Momiji.

So, yeah. They'r??e available now. I don't wanna say they're running out of ideas, but...they're kinda running out of ideas.

Third time's the...same?

"If at first you don't succeed..." is an interesting business model, especially considering that Dead or Alive 5 wasn't really a "failure," per se. However, try, try again Team Ninja did, and we are now? treated to a third version of this particular entry in the franchise.

When it all boils down to it, does Ultimate really make that big of a difference?

I'm having the strangest feeling of déjà vu. I feel as though I already reviewed this game. Oh wait -- I did. Twice. If you want to know the particular ins and outs of the title, go?? ahead and check out either of those reviews. I'll wait.

Are you done? Okay, good. Now, when it comes to Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate and the core gameplay mechanics, not much has changed in that respect. You still have the same structure where strikes beat throws, holds beat strikes, rock beats scissors, and so on. The story mode remains the same as well, but as with DOA5+ on Vita, the tutorial ?has been removed and placed in its o?wn separate section of the game.

The most obvious change for Ultimate is the addition of five new fighters, bringing the roster up to 29 -- the largest in DOA history. These include Jacky (joining Akira, Sarah and Pai from Virtua Fighter), Momji and Rachel (from Ninja Gaiden), and fan favorites Ein and Leon are back from Dead or Alive 4. There are also five new stages to battle in, including the Sky High arena which utilizes a power blow-triggered Danger Zone with a giant ston?e Buddha.

Speaking of power blows, those aren't the only crunch-time special attacks anymore. There are now power launchers, spec??ific to each character that comically boost your opponent into the air for insane juggles. While they don't offer as much damage as a power blow will, t?hey're fun to use in stages that don't have a Danger Zone feature to keep that launch aesthetic.

As mentioned before, the tutorial is now its own separate affair, excised from the story mode. There are also additional components to the tutorials, such as a Combo Challenge mode to help refine your beatdowns. There's a new Survival mode, where you're pitted against numerous foes one at a time until your health is completely depleted, with no load times in between fights. Additionally, every fight mode includes the option for solo or tag-team play again, a feature that was removed from DOA5+.

Outside of that, you have your standard cosmetic additions such as new titles, hairstyles, victory animations, fight entrances, and of course, the feature that Ultimate will be most known for: more costumes! Yes, I know we've all been clamoring for that. Sad? thing is?, while many are unlockable, still more are available only as a download.

In fact, if you want all the costumes, you can buy a package that includes everything -- for the same price as the game itself. That's right. $39.99 for fake clo??thing. For th??e pervy-est among you, the new photo section called Movies allows you to select the cutscene and level of sweat on your character, then snap pics as you rotate around them. You know, because you can.

After checking the label to make sure this wasn't by Capcom, I'd have to say I wasn't really surprised with how Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate turned out. It adds a?? bu??nch of cosmetic features, one or two really worthwhile modes, a silly new move, and still doesn't include all of the DLC.

However, as far as the Ultimate version of the game goes, at least the title is right. This is the Ultimate DOA5, and if? you're a fan of the series, this is the best version to own.

Pre-order costume sets, too

Here's a fat update on Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate, coming this September for Xbox 360 and PS3.

First, a Pop Idol character costume set has the gir?ls of DOA dressing up like music stars. Ayane and Kasumi go J-Pop, while Hitomi, Kokoro, Leifang and Mila do the schoolgirl thing. Helena, Momiji, Lisa, Rachel, Tina, and even Sarah get "bad girl" get?ups in this set. 

The newly revealed Team Fight has you picking a team to go up against waves of enemies. A Combo Challenge in the tutorial mode will let you practice moves like Power Launchers and tag combos. And Survival Mode is ex?actly as it sounds, though it features dropped items that cna be picked up for special benefits. For example, a?? watermelon will restore health.

It's not a gameplay mode, but "Movies" sounds like it'll let you play dress-up, with the ability to change characters' hairstyles, costumes a??nd ??more. The image in our gallery shows Helena's chest selections.

Finally, preorder people out there can expect exclusive costume packs f????rom GameStop and Amazon at launch.

PS3 inbound with talks of a 360 version ongoing

Though it is a perfectly functional and fun fighting game, Dead or Alive 5 didn't exactly set the fighting game scene ablaze. It sold well enough at least, but Team Ninja plans to breathe new life into the game by making Dead or Alive 5: Ultimate a free-to-play title.

The set up would go a little something like this: series staples Ryu, Hay?ate, Kasumi, and Ayane will all be available in the base game, with all the other fighters available as AI opponents. Online play will be enabled for the basic version, as well as the offline training and tutorial modes. Additional modes and fighters would stay behind a pay wall, but? Tecmo Koei will be offering trial periods for all purchasable fighters.

Currently this project is slated for a PS3 release, but Tecmo is in talks with Microsoft about getting it on Xbox 360. I don't know if this is exactly what will bring more people into DOA 5, but it is a nice effort on Tecmo's part to offer a substantial portion for free. The trial periods for paid fighters sounds like a particular nice foot forward. It's not a bad game by any stretch, but even as a free-to-play title, it's perhaps not what I want to be splitting into my time with Injustice. At the least, it is nice to see publishers experimenting with new ways to get their games out th??ere.

'Indy Car bad boy' Jacky Bryant

Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate expands its fighting roster with the addition of Virtua Fighter's Jacky Bryant. Fan favorite Ein will be also making his first return to the franchise since Dead or Alive 2. Plus there will be two new stages with the addition of Lost World and?? Forest. And of course there will be a bunch of new costumes.

Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate will be o?ut this fall fo??r the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Giant smashing Buddha!

As a quick follow-up to yesterday's story on Tecmo Koei's latest?? coming to Japan, we now know that Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate is confirmed for North America and Europe, too. I mean, we had no doubts it was coming. It's just nice to know, you know? Expect to see it this fall as both a retail release and a digital download.

Expect all the new modes from Dead or Alive 5 Plus, plus new stages and fighters. The Move Details Plus also carries over, and an additional tutorial mode will be added. Levels from the Ninja Gaiden series make an appearance.
