The scene shows a conversation at the Time Variance Authority's headquarters between B-15 and Paradox, who she warns not to do anything, as his job is to do nothing and prevent others from doing anything. The problem is, Paradox is a bit bored of his job and he has, in fact, already done quite some things that he shouldn't have. One such thing, namely, was setting all the events of Deadpool and Wolverine in motion.

Matthew Macfadyen isn't present in Loki, as Paradox was only added to Deadpool and Wolverine likely due to Macfadyen's great turn as Tom Wambsgans in HBO's Succession. The scene does seem to feature a bit of a Succession taste to it, as Macfadyen spills a bi?t of acidic hum??or towards his overseer in the TVA (Tive Variance Authority).

Wunmi Mosaku' B-15, Paradox's superior, is largely absent from Deadpool and Wolverine's original cut, a stark contrast to her constant presence in Marvel's Loki. This scene was likely removed because it didn't really add much to the plot, and also to make her reveal at the end of the movie stand out as one of those surprise appearances that Marvel?? likes to have fans clapping about.

With much anticipation and speculation behind it, Deadpool & Wolverine has finally made it to the movies. The third Deadpool feature has absolutely blown away audiences and critics alike, putting up strong numbers on Rotten Tomatoes and making a nice chunk of change at the global box office to kick off its run.

A lot of?? components have come together to make this possible, from the litany of hug?e surprise appearances and the triumphant return of Hugh Jackman to the role of Wolverine. However, let's not forget the person who serves as the film's crown jewel.

Ryan Reynolds is excellent as Wade "Deadpool" Wilson, bringing comedy, action, and a bit of heart to the Marvel Comics favorite. He clearly has fun with the material, especially that which takes aim at 20th Century Fox, Disney, and the Marvel Studios machine, and provides a performance worthy of the Merc with a Mouth's Marvel Cinematic Universe debut. All of that is to say that he has further solidified himself as the Deadpool actor, making it even more difficult to remember that it's not his first Marve??l movie role.

No, we're not talking about that awful Deadpool from X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Instead, we're shining a spotlight on Reynolds' real first Marvel character: Hannibal King from 2004's Blade: Trinity. Here's the rundown on this oft-forgotten Marvel comic and film s?upporting player.

Who is King in Marvel Comics lore?

Though he makes his big screen debut in the aforementioned Blade: Trinity, King's existence in Marvel Comics dates back decades before. The character, created by Gene Colan and Marv Wolfman, is introduced in Tomb of Dracula #25 in 1974, going on to appear as a supporting character in numerous stories in the following years. Turned into a vampire by Deacon Frost at a young age, he vows to never feed ??on the living nor use his vampiric abilities in battle, relying on his learned abilities and arsenal of weapons instead.

All in all, King is far from a main Marvel character, but he boasts and impressive resume all the same. He has worked extensively with Blade, Spider-Man, and Doctor Strange, featur?ed on teams such as the Nightstalkers, the Defenders, and the Midnight Suns, and battled such foes as the Darkholders, Dracula, and Lilith. With all of that in mind, he sounds like a pretty awesome characte?r. Unfortunately, there are a few big reasons why his film equivalent isn't looked upon with such reverence.

Reynolds' King doesn't much resemble his print counterpart

All of that cool information about King can go right out the window when it comes to Blade: Trinity. While Reynolds' King did become a vampire, he was ultimately cured by the Nightstalkers before joining the team. He grows especially close with Abigail Whistler (Jessica Biel), the daughter of Blade's (Wesley Snipes) mentor, Abraham Whistler (Kris Kristofferson), who joins him in breaking Blade out of custody and rec??ruiting him to their cause. From here, King pretty much becomes a generic quippy action guy.

While Blade is cool and Abigail is efficient, King provides a bit of comic relief while blasting away at vampires. His past as a member of the House of Talos, led by the film's main villain and the vampire who turned him, Danica Talos (Parker Posey), is touched on here and there, but it doesn't get much room to breathe. Like most Marvel Comics adaptations of the era, Blade: Trinity miss??es the mark in the comic-accuracy department and fails to ??justify its source material changes, with its version of King exemplifying that perfectly.

Could Hannibal King join the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

In one of the most stunning moments of Deadpool & Wolverine, the titular mutants encounter a ragtag band of Multiverse heroes while in the Void. Among them is none other than Snipes' Blade, making his return to the silver screen as the Daywalker after 20 years. Not only was it shocking to see him because of that fact, but also because of the supposed previous animosity between Snipes and Reynolds, which stemmed from their time on the Blade: Trinity set. The latter made it known that the Blade actor didn't care for him in an interview with IGN and even made a meta joke about their tension in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Thankfully, it appears Snipes and Reynolds buried the hatchet a long time ago. Snipes went as far as to tell Entertainment Weekly that the two have actually been friends all along. So, with that said, and assuming the character isn't dead or was swallowed up by Alioth, could Reynolds return as King in the MCU down the line? Could fans see him and Blade team up one more time, potentially even with Biel back as Abigail alongside them? If the Multiverse Saga has proven anything, it's that whatever you think is impossible could very well not be. We'll just have to see if Reynolds' King is due for a comeback or if he'll forever be confined to an obscure side character in Blade: Trinity.

Throughout the 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s, moviegoers have seen numerous Marvel Comics icons grace the big screen for the first time. Along??side the likes of Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire), and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) has had arguably the biggest mainstream pop culture impact of them all. His solo movies have raked over a billion dollars at the box office, he has become an even bigger merchandise juggernaut than he already was, and proven without a doubt that R-rated comedy superhero movies can not only work, but thrive.

In hindsight, it's not too surprising that Deadpool turned out to be a successful movie star. In the pages of Marvel Comics, his stories are full of action, comedy, fourth wall breaks, and even heart, which sounds like the perfect list of attributes for a feature film. Not to mention??, at one point he's described as a cross between Reynolds and a Shar-Pei in one of his comic adventures, so he was practically cast long before he became a big screen favorite and superhero genre influencer.

However, in reality, it took time, big mistakes, and surprising twists to get the Merc with a Mouth to the cinema. In fact, at times it seemed that he'd never make it there at all, only for him to exceed all expectations and defy countless detractors, studio executives included. What all of these?? elements amount to is a fascinating tale of one mutant's journey from print to live action.

The origin of Deadpool's cinematic introduction

Deadpool's cinematic journey dates all the way back to 2000, when, as reported by Variety, Artisan Entertainment penned a deal to bring several Marvel characters to the movies. Unfortunately, development on a Deadpool-centric project was slow going. Writer David S. Goyer shared in 2004 that such a film was coming together at New Line Cinema (via IGN), but, as fate would have it, the project didn't make it off the ground within the decade. Simultaneously, other efforts like X-Men, Spider-Man, Hulk, and Ghost Rider took big screen preced??ent to varying lev??els of prosperity.

At the very least, the casting of Deadpool himself was locked in during this stretch of time. Reynolds, who had jumped into the Marvel movie world for the first time in 2004 as Hannibal King in Blade: Trinity, expressed interest to IGN in playing Wade in the future. Sure enough, the actor got his wish, but it came with some caveats. Not only would his first appearance in the role be confined to a movie dedicated to another Marvel legend, but it would deviate quite far fro??m the comic book version fans had come to love.

The X-Men Origins: Wolverine fiasco

In 2009, Fox was exploring the idea of giving several of their X-Men franchise characters solo movies exploring their origins. Though one for Magneto (Sir Ian McKellen) was planned alongside it, the one centered on Wolverine was the only one to make it down the production pipeline. X-Men Origins: Wolverine opened in the United States on May 1, 2009 to widespread frustration from Marvel fans, casual moviegoers, and critic??s alike. One of the biggest sources of said disappointment was the film's abysmal take on Deadpool, who battles Wolverine and Sabretooth (Liev Schreiber) in th?e final act.

This take on Deadpool is, well, awful. He's a visual swing-a?nd-a-miss, lacking the character's signature red and black suit and instead opting for sweatpants and no shirt. His swords are attached to his hands, he can naturally teleport (comic Deadpool has this ability thanks to technology), and has the ability to fire optic blasts. Worst of all, his mouth is sewn shut, preventing Wade from spitting out one-liners and jokes li?ke he does in the comics. All in all, this is a take on the character that Deadpool fans despise that one can't help but feel was created a deep-seeded dislike of the source material.

The leaked test footage that changed it all

Reynolds didn't have much say in the matter of Deadpool's adaptation in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. He shared during a 2016 SiriusXM radio interview that he had no choice but to go with it if he wanted to play Deadpool in his own movie. "It was sort of like, 'Play Deadpool in this movie, or else we'll get someone else to.' And I just said, 'I'll do it, but it's the wrong version,'" the actor said. Despite playing ball, progress was still moving at a snail's pace on Deadpool as creatives came and went. Not to mention, when the Reynolds-led DC film Green Lantern floundered, Fox executives grew apprehensive of the entire thing (via The Hollywood Reporter).

Hopeful the project wouldn't end up scrapped, director Tim Miller went for broke and convinced Fox to fund animated test footage featuring Reynolds as a fresh, new, and comic-accurate take on Deadpool. The idea was to convince the powers that be that the film could be a big win if he and the team got a proper chance. They put the footage together in 2012, and Fox was not convinced. That is, until it was mysteriously leaked online in 2014 to widespread praise and positivity. With that, the folks at Fox quickly changed their tune, and Deadpool was officially slated for a 2016 release.

The monumental success of Deadpool and Deadpool 2

At long last, Deadpool arrived in theaters on February 12, 2016, marking a new era for the character. Long gone are his laser eyes and stitched-up mouth, replaced by a comic-inspired suit, crude jokes, and copious bloody action. He's centerstage for his origin story, as he goes from a terminally-ill former mercenary to a costumed crime-fighter, reuniting with his beloved Vanessa (Morena Baccarin) and befriending X-Men Colossus (Stefan Kapičić) and Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) in the process. The film received love from all sides and grossed well over $780 million at the worldwide box office.

Unsurprisingly, this financial and critical prosperity led to a sequel, the aptly-titled Deadpool 2, in 2018. This time around, Wade is accompanied by friends old and new alike as he prevents the time-traveling Cable (Josh Brolin) from killing a troubled young mutant named Russell Collins (Julian Dennison). Through time travel antics after the main plot wraps up, he even prevents Ryan Reynolds from taking on Green Lantern and kills off the X-Men Origins Deadpool. Much like its predecessor, the film performed well with fans and critics alike and made over $780 million at the box office.

The studio switch and canceled projects

With the first two Deadpool movies standing as undeniable success stories, it seemed that Fox was primed for a new generation of mutant-centric movies. However, that notion was swiftly dashed in 2019 when Fox was sold to the Walt Disney Company for a staggering $71.3 billion. The studio's Marvel intellectual properties were folded into Marvel Studios and all remaining Marvel features in development were tossed. The Fox X-Men universe ultimately ended with The New Mutants, which finally debuted in 2020. Meanwhile, a Deadpool-focuse??d and a Deadpool-adjacent story were left to fade into cinematic obscurity.

Thanks to the Fox-Disney deal, the original plan for Deadpool 3 was canned. According to Reynolds on X, the plan was for a road trip-style movie starring Deadpool and Wolverine akin to 1950's Rashomon. Dopinder actor Karan Soni noted that the film could've seen Deadpool venture to the North Pole to save Christmas. A movie focused on X-Force, the team introduced and almost completely killed off in Deadpool 2, was in progress as well and had been for years prior. It's unknown just how closely tied this film would've been to the Deadpool duolo??gy, though Reynolds' Deadpool and Jos?h Brolin's Cable were said to be involved in some capacity.

Deadpool enters the House of Mouse

Even though Fox's take on a third Deadpool movie didn't come to fruition, it's no surprise that another Deadpool adventure became a viewable reality. From the moment Deadpool and the X-Men became fair game to join Disney's Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans began speculating on when they could expect them to arrive. In the years after 2019, mutants slowly started trickling their way into the sprawling franchise, but where was the movie announcement? September 2022 finally brought the news so many had been waiting for, that Deadpool 3 was on the way, but the excitement didn?'t end there.

When Reynolds shared the news of Deadpool 3 being in development at Marvel Studios, he also revealed that Hugh Jackman would reprise the role of Wolverine for the feature, which was later renamed as Deadpool & Wolverine. Jackman previously retired from the character in 2017 via Logan after spending almost two decades within it. Further sweetening the deal, it came to light that, at long last, Jackman would don Wolverine's iconic yellow and blue suit for the film. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better way to cap off the Deadpool tri?logy and to commemorate both Deadpool and? Wolverine's first MCU appearances.

With years worth of ups, downs, trials, and tribulations behind it, Deadpool's third and potentially most highly-anticipated movie, Deadpool & Wolverine, is now playing.

Deadpool & Wolverine has arrived to much excitement and fanfare, bringing both Wade Wilson and Logan (Hugh Jackman) to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time. Unsurprisingly, their first MCU adventure is full ??of foul language, violence, fourth wall breaks, and drama, in addition to some big surprises.

Deadpool & Wolverine makes no bones about the fact that its a Multiverse story, with the presence of the Time Variance Authority and copious multiversal variants present in the film's marketing driving this point home. Among the many versions of the Merc with a Mouth teased in promotional material, one stands out as especially sweet and absolutely adorable. Well, depending on who you ask. Yes, we're here today to shine a deserve??d spotlight on the one and only Dogpool, as portrayed by Peggy, a pug?-Chinese crested mix.

Through the cuteness of Peggy and the anticipation for Deadpool & Wolverine, some might be surprised to know that Dogpool's journey to Hollywood has been decently long,?? and that the character's casting has some fun twists and turns to it. So, in honor of t?he four-legged mercenary's big screen debut, here's a look back on Dogpool's voyage from print to Hollywood prominence.

Dogpool has existed in the Marvel Comics universe for years

Though the Multiverse has been a present element in Marvel Comics lore for decades, the existence of Dogpool in the multiversal canon is a relatively recent development. Wilson of Earth-103173 debuted in 2010 via Prelude to Deadpool Corps #3, with subsequent comics explaining where he comes from and how he became his world's Deadpool equivalent. It a?ll started when he was used as an animal test subject for an experimental mascara, Mascara X, which severely disfigured him and granted him a healing factor. Left to wander the streets alone, Wilson is eventually brought into a traveling circus due to his unique new ability.

Eventually, the Deadpool of the main Marvel Comics timeline, Earth-616, scoops up Wilson and brings him along to join the Deadpool Corps.: a team of Deadpool variants from across the Multiverse dedicated to combating cosmic threats. Thus, he becomes Dogpool, accompanying his fellow Deadpools on various missions. Sadly, there's one that he doesn't come back from. When the evil Dreadpool forms an evil version of the Deadpool Corps., Dogpool is slain defending the 616 Deadpool from one of the new faction's villainous variants. Thus, the story of Victor Gischler and Phillip Bond's canine merc comes to a sad yet heroic end in the pages of 2013's Deadpool Kills Deadpool #1. Rest in power, Wilson.

The casting of Peggy for Deadpool & Wolverine

In short, Dogpool is a legend. Sure, the character doesn't get a lot to do during his tenure in Marvel Comics, but what's not to love about the combination of Deadpool and a dog? Therefore, when bringing the puppy into live-action for Deadpool & Wolverine, the folks at Marvel Studios had quite a casting challenge ahead of them. Perhaps the b??iggest casting challenge they'd ever faced. Bigger than Spider-Man?, bigger than the Fantastic Four. Surprisingly, finding the proper dog to bring such a monumentally important Marvel character to life wasn't too hard. All it took was Reynolds checking out the results of the Britain's Ugliest Dog competition.

With her scattered tufts of hair, wonky yet lovable proportions, and dangling tongue, Peggy won the aforementioned competition in 2023, but her unique look won her more than just that. It got her foot in the door to try out the Dogpool role for Deadpool & Wolverine, which she landed with ease. Reynolds announced her casting in November 2023 on X, even later telling Empire, “The reason why I was a huge proponent for her was ?because she feels like the animal manifestation ??of Wade Wilson.�?Based on looks alone, he couldn't be more correct. “It was one of those things where you just keep listening to the movie, and Dogpool became a staple,�?he said of the evolution of Peggy's role in the story as the movie came together.

Video Game history is filled with instances of controllers that are either poorly designed or ludicrously over designed. Weird, considering how coming up with a good controller should be easier than coming up with a good game, and the controller is responsible for a large part of the immer??sion we can experience with a game.

Video Game controllers have evolved immensely throughout the years ?- and we'll be making fun of the biggest offenders in history - but you'd be surprised to learn just how hilariously bad some controllers coming out nowadays can still b??e.

Sonic’s furry controllers (Xbox One)

Did you ever wish for a controller that would make your hands hotter, possibly get them to sweat more, and then absorb all the sweat to gain your personalized smell? Then you should totally get this absolute abomination.

The least puzzling thing about these controllers is that they were released to help promote Sonic 2, the movie, and not an actual game, likely because no one in their right mind would want to go through a whole playthrough using these. They're very rare, so you're unlikely to have to try one of these out but, in case you happen to come acro??ss one, please avoid feeding them after midnight.

Resident Evil 4's chainsaw controller (CameCube)

This is one of the most iconic and ?valuable tie-in co??ntrollers in video game history, and it sucks. I get that it was meant to be a novelty, but why not also make a functional controller?

This thing is too large, is like zero percent ergonomic and, while it's not an actual chainsaw that can accidentally kill the friend sitting on your left, the fake chainsa?w that comes out of it is cumbersome and just plain impractical. Those are all pretty bad additions to the already iffy GameCube controller.

Xbox's PUBG anti grease controller (Xbox One)

Is there anything more off-putting when it comes to gaming hardware than greasy gear? At some point in the history of Microsoft, someone who seemingly doesn't believe in the combined powers of water, soap, and common sense thought about tackling the issue by creating a controller that grease just wouldn't adhere to.

In actuality, it has the ergonomics and quality build of a regular Xbox One controller, which is great, but you (hopefully) just ?can't help but scoff at this thing by knowing the dirty and disgusting ideas behind it.

Deadpool and Wolverine’s ass controller (Xbox Series X|S)

For the release of Deadpool and Wolverine, Microsoft?? and Disney decided to release a con??troller whose backside features, well, Deadpool's backside. Not only does that make me scared that I'd been pulled into a wormhole that took me to a world where '00s comedy still rules, but it's also highly impractical.

And, this controller's biggest sin isn't even that it's extremely dumb, but that it's a lie. Yes, the ??ass comes off:

They couldn't even commit to the bit, but the joke's on them. Even without the elephant in the room, how can you not hate the idea of a controller that features the texture of Deadpool's suit? Your trained gamer senses just? immediately know that that thing's no good for anything other than gathering sweat and dirt that you'll have a? hard time cleaning off.

Alphagrip Igrip

If you're not yet aware of the Igrip's existence, you're likely wondering what the hell it is that you're even looking at. How do you hold it? Where do you press? And, most important of all, how are you t?o avoid pressing what you're not supposed to press? The answer is not yet known to humankind.

When you're trying to come up with a video game controller that's better for PC gaming than a mouse and keyboard combo, it's very important that you at least fail better than the people at Alphagrip did. The Igrip tried to beat the universally accepted best way to play most PC games by coming up with a controller that features every single key that you'd find on a keyboard - an??d on a mouse. Yes, do you see that ball in the middle? That's a trackball, just in case you thought this couldn't get worse.

It'll likely tak?e you a few hours to configure properly, and no more than ten seconds for you to get the realization that this thing is impossible to?? use.

Steel Battalion's Controller (Xbox)

Please don't show this one to any gamer friend who refers to their PC gaming setup as their "battle station", as they'd probably end up feeling seriously humiliated by this massive combo of joysticks, pedals, triggers, b?uttons, emergency buttons, and dials.

Truth be told, this controller isn't even bad. If you go through the trouble of learning how to use it, It works pretty well with Steel Battalion, ??a great game in its own right, though that's the only game it?? really works with. That's pretty wild, especially for a controller that would cost you $200 even back in the day.

The Nintendo Power Glove

We couldn't legally do this list without honouring the famed king of bad controllers. Though legendary film classics such as The Wizard heralded it as the ?bestest controller ever made, ??gamers know it's so bad it should've never left the drawing board.

A glove that i??nteracted with a game via infrared inputs and featured a controller glued to its top? was always going to be a highly over-engineered product, and the biggest problem is that it just didn't work well.

You could say that the technology just wasn't there back when it came out??, but it sure is there right now, and it'd still suck if it were to come out nowadays - yes, I'm saying this in the hopes that no one will try to revive this thing.

Nintendo U-Force

Motio?n controllers have such a bad (literal and figurative) track record that we tend to be skeptical about such things even with today's tech. Imagine how everyone must've reacted in 1989 to the U-force, this warship board-looking infrared motion controller fo??r the NES.

It was even worse than the power glove, because instead of looking silly but in a cyberpunk way, it looked silly in a corporate way. Also, it was one of the least-responsive pieces of gaming tech ever made. Its ads even infamously said "Don't touch!", which I'd like to attribute to a marketing team desperately tryin??g to save customers ?from the thoughts of getting one.

The Sega Activator (Genesis, Mega Drive)

You know it's bad when they?? can't ??even get the actor to look like he's having fun for a promotional photo he was hopefully paid to be on. Hell, they didn't even get him to look at the screen.

That ring supposedly interpreted our movements via infrared signals, but i??t mostly failed to capture anything, leaving players with little more than the shame from all the silly poses they m?ade while trying to play games.

If you think the Genesis 32x was bad, then imagine experiencing DOOM 32X on this thing.

No other company dared doin?g anything this dumb ever again, unless you live in the only alternate universe where the Kinect be?came a thing, which leads us to..

Xbox Kinect (Xbox 360)

It's sad that the Xbox 360, Microsoft's best soldier in the console war, had to be the one to introduce the Kinect. In fact, Mic??rosoft's shift towards Kinect-based games may very well have been the reason?? why Microsoft's console didn't emerge with a clear lead against Sony during that generation.

The Kinect promised that you'd be the controller of your own game, but that's just Microsoft pre-emptively shifting blame in case things went awry. You, and I, for that matter, are not the worst controller in existence. That honor belongs to this motion-con??trolled camera that clearly wasn't ready and that would've benefitted enormously from the simple a??ddition of an actual controller to the mix.

Also, remember Milo, that nice kid you'd get to be friends with? He's now 55 years old, still trapped in there.

Curved and red and perhaps interesting to the touch, there's a chance for one lucky fan to get a hold of the peripheral. Again, if that is your thing.

Deadpool & Wolverine is sending the Marvel Cinematic Universe's rumor mill into overdrive, and a new bit of buzz has given it even more juice. If Tweets from a trusted leaker, Ryan Reynolds, and the film's director are trustworthy, the Incredible Hulk will make a smashing cameo appearance in Deadpool & Wolveri

Deadpool & Wolverine insiders have been dropping Hulk hints for months

The first hint that the Incredible Hulk might appear in Deadpool & Wolverine came from an X (formally known as Twitter) user named Holyfield News. This supposed MCU ins??ider is known for making spicy (and accurate) predictions about upcoming Marvel films. In a tweet posted on June 30, Holyfield News claimed that Hugh Jackson's Wolverine would go claws-to-fists with the Incredibl??e Hulk.

HolyField New's prediction aligns with comments the leaker made in a post they wrote back in March, in which they claimed that Hulk would appear in Deadpool and Wolverine and that Mark Ruffalo, who's played the MCU ve??rsion of Bruce Banner since 2012, would return to fill in the role.

While the word a leaker with no public identity comes with more than a few grains of salt, Holyfield News isn't the only one teasing that the Hulk will show up and throw his big, green hands in Deadpool & Wolverine. Sh?awn Levy, the film's director, expr??essed his interest in seeing Ruffalo's Hulk cross paths with Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool, albeit in an underhanded way.

Ruffalo and Reynolds previously worked together under Levy in The Adam Project, and the director posted a promotional image of the? two stars together. Interestingly, Reynolds and Ruffalo are next to a Rubbermaid cooler w?ith a sticker of the Incredible Hulk and Deadpool's logo. The first comment on the post is a cryptic statement from Levy, who refers to the picture as "The showdown we’ve been waiting for..."

Levy posted his little tease over a year before Marvel and Disney unveiled Deadpool & Wolverine, so it's about as far from an official confirmation as it gets. However, Ruffalo has worked with Levy on other films, including All the Light We Can See and Date Night, so the two have an established relationship that could clear the way for Ruffalo's Hulk to appear in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Wolverine and Hulk have a long-standing rivalry in comics that Marvel fans have been waiting to see on film for years

Most comic fans associate Wolverine with the X-Men, but his first appearance in The Incredible Hulk #181 saw him go toe-to-toe with the titular green-skinned brute. While the two have since mended fences and fought side-by-side, they just as often come to blows, locked in an eternal struggle to see who'd win in a real fight.

"Who'd win, Wolverine or Hulk?" is a debate that Marvel fans have been perpetuating for decades, and Jackman and Ruffalo have given their thoughts on it before. In an interview with Sirius XM, posted on ComicBook.com, Jackman complimented Ruffalo's take on the Hulk but asserted Wolverine would win. Ruffalo also expressed his desire to see Hulk and Wolverine fight it out on the big screen in an interview with The Marvelists.

With Jackman and Ruffalo voicing their support, it's safe to say that the odds of Hulk and Wolverine throwing down in Deadpool & Wolverine are looking pretty high. Of course, we'll have to wait until the movie hits theater?s in July to see if the fight Marvel fans have been waiting for happens.

Way back in 1990, Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza created a brand new character for the ever-expanding Marvel Comics universe. The mercenary named Wade Wilson, better known by the alias Deadpool made his introduction in the pages of The New Mutants #98. Little did anyone realize then how much of a global phenomenon?? this character would ??become in only a few short years.

Plenty of quips, fourth wall breaks, and astounding comic book moments later, Deadpool has become one of the most popular Marvel creations of all time. His crude humor and willingness to poke fun at just about anything has endeared him to generations of comic readers, in addition to those who don't read so often. Merchandise, cartoons, and movies, such as the highly anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine, set ?to release on July 26, have very much extended Wade's reach across the pop culture spe??ctrum.

Naturally, this has al?so meant that the Merc with a Mouth has popped up in more than a few video games over the years. While he's a highlight of the titles he's in more of??ten than not, some of his appearances are simply a cut above the rest.

5. Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions (2010)

Despite traditionally being more of an X-Men character, as the mischievous mercenary that he is, Deadpool has encountered other heroes in the Marvel Universe within the gaming sphere. For instance, he appears in the 2010 action-adventure game Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions, voiced by Nolan North. While not an evil mustache-twirling villain,? he does serve as something of an antagonistic force in the story.

The Deadpool featured here is based on his old Ultimate Comics incarnation and is the host of a Fear Factor spoof called Pain Factor. As such, he forces Spider-Man (specifically the Ultimate Spider-Man iteration) to go throug?h a series of daring challenges in exchange for a piece of the Tablet of Order and Chaos. Spidey does so successfully, but Wade is a bit of a sore loser, so a boss fight ensues. When the dust settles, the webhead wins and gets his fragment.

All in all, Deadpool's involvement in Shattered Dimensions isn't t??oo heavy, but his portion of the game is fun. As one would expect from the ch??aracter, there are plenty of jokes and gags to keep the sequence entertaining, yet he's no slouch when you have to fight him. This is an excellent use of the beloved Marvel Comics creation that plays all the hits and doesn't overstay its welcome.

4. Marvel's Midnight Suns (2022)

Compared to other Marvel games, Marvel's Midnight Suns more or less flew under the radar for a lot of gamers. The tactical role-playing game features characters like Wolverine, Ghost Rider, Blade, and Captain America. It didn't receive a lot of fanfare upon release, though it did garner r?elatively positive reviews from those who played it. Despite this lack of press, it wound up receiving downloadable content, including a pack dedicated to none other than Deadpool.

Deadpool, again voiced by North, was added to the game in January 2023 via the Good, The Bad, and The Undead DLC alongside three new missions. He previously took over the Midnight Suns X, or Twitter, page to advertise his imminent arrival. Wade comes with a handful of outfits, including his now iconic gray and black X-Force suit, a room in the Abbey full of posters from the Marvel Swimsuit Specials of the ?1990s, and, naturally, one-liners to spare.

On a roster already chock full of Marvel greats, Deadpool is a welcome addition to Midnight Suns. Many of its characters are fairly no-nonsense, so he's a breath of fresh air in this environment. While no one really likes paying for DLC, if you're a fan of the character and Midnight Suns, you'll likely find he's worth the dough.

3. Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 (2009)

The original Marvel: Ultimate Alliance is a very enjoyable dungeon crawler featuring pretty much every Marvel hero you would want to see. That game does feature Deadpool as a playable character, but unfortunately, he doesn't play an active role in the story. Seemingly aware of the character's continually increasing popularity, the second Ultimate Alliance game ?from 2009 puts him firmly in the spotlight for a?? bit.

Deadpool pops up early in the Ultimate Alliance 2 campaign when you and your crew of chosen heroes arrive in Washington, DC. You're all tasked with stopping a terrorist threat in the United States capital, but Wade doesn't want to hear it. All he knows is that he wanted to see the cherry blossoms in bloom and the chaos of the situation is ruining his vacation. Fisticuffs ensue, and once the fight is over, Deadpool is unlocked as a playable character. This also opens the opportunity for fun dialogue options throughout the game between him and everyone from Wolve?rine to Stan Lee himself.

Deadpool is an absolute treat in Ultimate Alliance 2. His boss fight and the circumstances surrounding it are fun and appropriate for the character, he's fun to play as once unlocked, and, graphically speaking, his character model looks excellent for t??he hardware. Of course, his alternate maskless costume is a tad nightmare-inducing.

2. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes (2013)

Much like the Ultimate Alliance games, the main draw of 2013's LEGO Marvel Super Heroes is its expansive roster. From?? good guys like Iron Man and Hulk to bad guys such as Doctor Doom and Loki, the minds behind the game packed in an immense number of Marvel icons. Unsurprisingly among these is Deadpool, and while he doesn't involve himself too much in the main campaign, he does have a neat overarc??hing role in the game.

Aside from the story missions, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes features a handful of bonus ones centering on specific heroes and villains. The introductory cinematics are all hosted and narrated by Deadpool, who sets the stage for the mission you're about to embark on. Additionally, the red power bricks that had become a staple of LEGO games up to that point used for unlocking extras have been renamed Deadpool red bricks. To purchase the extras they unlock, one has to go to Deadpool's room on the S.H?.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier. Collecti??ng them all makes Deadpool playable.

Seeing as LEGO Marvel Super Heroes is aimed at children, this version of Deadpool is a bit different than most others. He's far less crude, and his penchant for violence is very much dialed back to make him fit the LEGO style. While this may seem like a negative, in reality, this is an incredibly fun take on the character. His remaining characteristics, especially his fourth wall breaks, fit the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes univer??se so well, and those behind ??the game couldn't have picked a better spot for him.

1. Deadpool (2013)

After just under a decade in the Marvel Comics spotlight, Deadpool made the leap to the movies. 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine brought the character to the big screen for the first time, portrayed by Ryan Reynolds, infamously botching him in every way possible. Thankfully, a mere four years later, fans were given a much more faithful adaptation of the Merc with a Mouth, but not at the cinema. Deadpool took the gaming world by storm in his own game, the aptly-titled Deadpool.

Deadpool sees Wade team up with the X-Men and various other characters in a fight against the mad mutant geneticist, Mister Sinister. Like a typical Deadpool comic, the story is full of twists and turns, goofy humor, and plenty of moments in need of a double-take. The ac?tion is also copious, with Wade making full use of his arsenal of weapons to dispose of his enemies.

Speaking strictly to the game's depiction of the title character, Deadpool is a home run. Per usual, North is excellent in the role, infusing the written material with so much energy and prime comedic timing. He'll even make fun of you if you suck. Deadpool is funny, capable in ?a fight, and as animated as he should be, amounting to a solid take on the character.

The Merc with a Mouth comin' to shake shit up

2K Games has released a new trailer spotlighting the first DLC hero headed to its rad comic-book strategy title Marvel's Marvel Suns �?The infamous, notorious, and damn aggravating mercenary, Deadpool, will be bringing his own personal brand of fourth-wall-break??ing mayhem to all platforms January 26.

The DLC update, titled The Good, The Bad, and The Unde?ad, will add The Merc with a Mouth as a recruitable team member, alongside a handful of new story missions, and several new additions to the minions of the Mother of Demons, Lillith. Oh, and Deadpool is also bringing with him new friendship paths, and his own personal research project, Food Truck. Well, a mercenary gotta eat, I suppose.

The Deadpool update is the first of a series of mini-expansions headed to Marvel's Midnight Suns in 2023. Future DLC will include similar packs for the freaky symbiote, Venom; the Living Vampire, Morbius, and the weather-warning X-Men queen, Storm. All character downloads can be purchased separately or are available as part of the Midnight Suns' season pass. Marvel's Midnight Suns is available now on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X. Ports for P??S4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch are reportedly in the works, although news on these editions has been a little quiet as of late.

You see, he talks to the audience

I have to admit, I was shocked when Deadpool really blew up. As a comic fan he was always an oddity, and fun to play/see in any number of media appearances. But when Ryan Reynolds essentially became him and made him charming, he turned into a comic icon. I mean, the 2013 Deadpool game kind of faded into obscurity and licensing issues (twice!), but alas, he still holds a lot of water and continues to appear in things like Marvel vs. Capcom and Ultimate Alliance 3. If Suda had hi?s way, he might get another shot at a starring role in a game.

Speaking to IGN Japan, memorable director/producer Suda 51 (who just launched No More Heroes 3!) mused on future projects he'd like t??o take on and mentioned the Merc with a ?Mouth in passing:

"The kind of things I'd love to do...I'd also love to work with Marvel on a Shatter??star or Deadpool game, something sort of Grasshopper like that. Maybe a Quicksilver title of some sort. So, Marvel (thumbs up)."

All great ideas! Quicksilver in an action game would be a dream, and I think it would kind of have to be a little wacky and in the Grasshopper personality-laden style to pull off a speedster-led title. Shatterstar's superhuman strength and movement abilities are also a natural fit, and we ??have proof that Deadpool works in games already.

As for the near future more grounded in the real world, Grasshopper is working on "three IP in the next 10 years," so they're still very much active following the release of No More Heroes 3. Mayb??e one of those can be an irreve?rent Marvel game.

Doubles down on everything, for the better

Making a Deadpool movie involves a lot of nuance. Yeah, an absurd statement for the character that yells the word "chi??michangas" constantly, but hear me out. Go too far down the spectrum, and you end up with a Deadpool that becomes an "LOL SO RANDOM!" unbearable meme. On the other end, Deadpool could become standard superhero fare that the character thrives in satirizing. To make such a movie successful, you have to get it just right.

So here's my hot take on Deadpool 2: it's the Goldilocks of Deadpool movies.

Wade Wilson/Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) is an absurd character—his comics counterpart is one who would basically walk out of the page and deliver a unique blend of self-referential and crude humor. These characteristics might make Deadpool a good foil to a serious protagonist, but as Deadpool is the protagonist, the movie requires some thematic heft and a moral lesson to be learned. "Is Deadpool a true hero?" is the dramatic question in the foreground of both of these f??ilms?.

The sequel certainly progresses this unlikely hero's journey for Deadpool, though some of the stops along the way are questionable—there is a certain fridging in the beginning of the movie that even the James Bond-inspired opening credits sequence is completely shocked by. Still, the screenplay demonstrates that Wade Wilson is not just a one-note wisecracking character, with his primary goal being to protect a young mutant (Julian Dennison) from a time-traveling, gruff and vengeful Cable (Josh Brolin, sans purple CGI makeover).

Brolin certainly looks and sounds the part of Cable, and he gives off a Schwarzenegger Terminator 1 vibe, in the sense that he has a menacing, near-unstoppable presence, but with a bit of humanity in him (so essentially, Schwarzenegger in Terminator 2). While Cable's brawling and gunning make for good action scenes, I felt that there was a missed opportunity in this film to have Deadpool and Cable riff off of each other. These two characters are polar opposites in personality, which creates potential ??for some fun buddy cop moments, but unfortunately, most of their screen time together is composed of fights between the two. And compared to Brolin's other Marvel character Thanos, there isn't a whole lot to Cable's character, with his arc ending in a decision that feels mostly unearned.

The other new supporting player is Deadpool's X-Force recruit Domino (Atlanta's Zazie Beetz, stealing the hearts of millions), and the same could be said about her. Domino's superpower is essentially just passively being lucky, which does indeed make for some excelle??nt cinematic moments (even with the obvious CGI). Domino is a welcome presence in the film's action scenes, but the story makes little effort to have her fit in with the rest of the comedic cast, and she has virtually no character arc of her own. Ultimately, Deadpool essentially described her only purpose in the film: being a young superhero with franchise potential for the next decade.

And to cap all of that, the film's story doesn't feel particularly original—the premise is way too close to Looper, and one hilarious sequence with the X-Force in the middle of the film gave some MacGruber vibes. It was slightly disappointing that a movie I expected plentiful lamps??hading from neve??r really called itself out on that.

Even with all of my gripes over the film's character work, it was the execution of action and humor that made Deadpool 2 a fulfilling experience. ??Audiences probably expect crude humor, fourth-wall breaking, pop culture references and the use of music as absurd juxtaposition. This sequel is more plentiful in all of the above, and rarely in a way th??at felt irritating or detrimental.

In fact, it's exactly what I wanted.

See, looking back at the first Deadpool in comparison, that first film actually feels a bit more restrained. It was a movie that was a bigger risk at the time, with outdated pop culture references (a Rosie O'Donnell joke, for God's sake) and the fourth-wall breaking feeling more "wink wink nudge nudge." But with the first movie's success, this sequel went all-out with the humor. There was a higher jokes-per-minute rate, and Deadpool's pop culture references felt less Friedburg/Seltzer Epic Movie and instead felt like a natural part of Wade Wilson's character and personality. Expect plenty of explicit, verbal references to the X-Men films, the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC films (including and especially Green Lantern).

This is a Deadpool that is fully aware that he is in a movie, looking at the camera frequently, mentioning the film's script, and even at one point declaring that a minor character will no longer have speaking lines for the rest of the film. We never get Mel Brooks-style moments of Deadpool accidentally shooting a boom mic operator or running a??round the sets of other movi??es on a soundstage, but the mid-credits scene (fair warning, there is no post-credits scene) does go in that direction. It all just works—not only do these jokes and references feel more like the voice of the characte?r rather than of some hack screenwriter, but it feels like Wade Wilson is saying what the audience is thinking out loud.

Director David Leitch, a veteran stunt performer and director of Atomic Blonde has already proven his action movie chops. Being an absurdist comic book movie, the action is less gritty and realistic as say, his work on John Wick, but Leitch demonstrates that he knows how to stage comedy as well. A montage sequence in the beginning has all of the bloody violence we've come to expect from a Deadpool film, but it was magnificent seeing every square inch of the frame being used for comedic purposes. One slow-motion shot has a baddie running away, as Deadpool massacres his goons in the background in hilarious fashion. The film keeps throwing gags at the audience, even hiding some away in the background for eagle-eyed viewers to find (for example, a news ticker saying "Christopher Plummer turns down Deadpool 2 role").

So perhaps this film does ?fall short of character development—but I don't think that there is a single person reading this review who plans to watch it for that primary reason. There's plenty of blood, severed limbs, body horror/humor, constant funny uses of popular songs, fourth-wall breaking, pop culture references and all-around absurdism. 

The first Deadpool was just a warm-up. Deadpool 2 is the most Deadpool that Dead??pool could Deadpool.

It seems like the merc with a mouth just can't sit still for too long. High Moon Studio's Deadpool has come and gone from Steam so many times that hearing about another delisting is hardly surprising. Licenses expire and Activision has never really pushed Deadpool all that much. With that being said, this may be the final chan??ce you'll have to grab the kooky action romp on Valve's digital platform.

The game will be leaving Steam's digital storefront on November 16. If this finally gets you to pull the trigger, know that the game is 70% off until its inevitable delisting. $12 for Deadpool doesn't sound so bad, though the PC version doesn't include the DLC that was released (go f??igure).

What if they still made movie tie-in games?

I'll be the first to admit it, this story's a little strange. I'm pretty sure we've never posted anything from HalloweenCostumes.com before.

Movies and TV shows tend not to have full console releases anymore, as the tie-in games we s??ee today seem to have shifted to mobile, where it's easier and faster to develop a title. So it's an interesting "what if" exercise to think about what some game boxes might look like?? if the SNES were still the dominant console, still receiving licensed movie and television tie-in games. 

Some of these are better done than others, but one thing that particularly impressed me was the attention given to each fake SNES game's publisher. Interplay is a great choice for the Game of Thrones game, since that publisher was known for adapting story-heavy intellectual properties and TV shows like Star Trek. Similarly, it's logical that Capcom would've published the Deadpool ga?me back in the '90s, even though Activision was actually publisher for the 2013 game. 

Furthermore, it makes perfect sense that Sony Pictures would have tapped Sony Imagesoft to promote its tie-in of the rebooted Ghostbusters.

And for better or worse, JVC was the publisher for the three Super Star Wars games that were released on the SNES, making this box for the upcoming Rogue One anachronistically accurate.

You know, that one

That Deadpool game from 2013 was pretty decent. Sure it had its issues, but as High Moon's swan song before they went off to Activision's porting pits, it wasn't bad. Now, the game is being re-released this week on the PS4 and Xbox One platforms for $49.99 -- cu?riously, the s??ame price as the digital editions for the last generation currently are going for.

If it's anything like the Prototype re-releases, you'll want to do a bit of research before jumping in -- those games weren't really upgraded at all. Right now the game is live on th?e Xbox marketplace, but the PS4 version is?? still on the way.

DLC from old platforms included

It was surprising to see High Moon Studios' Deadpool resurface on Steam in July after its removal from digital marketplaces in 2014. The game is no masterpiece, but if someone wants to play, let 'em. I'm glad Activision worked out a? contr??act with Marvel to reinstate sales.

This new batch of Deadpool ports for PlayStati??on 4 and Xbox One is also a surprise, but not a good one. The re-release will cost $49.99 when it ?launches on November 17, 2015.

Ok, I'll take it

I was pleasantly surprised by High Moon's Deadpool game. Sure it wasn't the most polished action game, but it was mostly true to the character, and was a decent enough little romp. Then... it was gone. One day it just vanished, and was removed from Steam and sales of the console version also ended. Only to be placed back on Steam this week for $39.99 -- maybe it's because the m??ovie has been gaining some steam since the San Diego Comic-Con trailer debut?

We've reached out to Activision for comment to see if it will appear on the PSN and Xbox Live as well. You know what though, this whole situation has me thinking -- I could really use a remake of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. It would be awesome to see Raven Software be able to work on its own projects again instead of being relegated to Call of Duty support -- even if it does a great job.

Activision-published Deadpool, Spider-Man, and X-Men titles affected

Deadpool, a game that released on June 25, 2013, is no longer available for purchase ?on Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, or Steam -- and it's not alone.

Other games presumably impacted by a licensing agreement with Marvel coming to a close include Spider-Man: Friend or Foe, Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, Spider-Man: Edge of Time, X-Men: The Official Game, X-Men Destiny, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Game Informer has confirmed this list with Activision.

I'm unaware of what development on Deadpool was like behind the scenes at High Moon Studios and can only wager a guess knowing Activision served as publisher, but it's obvious the property wasn't given the budget and time frame it deserved. And now it's gone. Such a waste. As for the other titles, I'm bummed I never downloaded X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Wading in the shallow end

Deadpool and videogames are a potential match made?? in Heaven. Marvel's perpetually popular Merc with a Mouth is violent, vulgar and lacking even the smallest shred of subtlety. That's why we love him, though, and why the tacky world of mainstream videogame production is so perfect for him. 

The catch is, however, that Deadpool is famous for being funny. His self-referential humor, breaking of the fourth wall, and frighteningly effective insanity make for some hilarious comic book adventures, and if there's one genre?? videogame deve?lopers find very hard to do right, it's comedy. 

Still, High Moon Studios managed to turn Transformers into a surprisingly credible game series, proving it's able to nail a licensed property with due reverence and an adequate level of quality. If any team can come close to nailing Deadpool,?? it's High Moon, and I can say with confidence t?hat it definitely came close. 

Or thereabouts.

With Deadpool, High Moon Studios decided to abandon any sense of a real plot and run enthusiastically with the titular character's penchant for self-reference. The story of the game is that it's ... well ... a game. Deadpool contracts High Moon Studios (yes, the developer shamelessly namedrops itself constantly) to make an "awesome" game for him, roping in some X-Men favorites and the villainous Mr. Sinister to give us a vague sense of a goal. Any story is secondary to the cameos, the one-liners, and the cavalcade of dick? and boob jokes. 

I've no issue with dick and boob jokes when done right, and I'd say that maybe half of the time, Deadpool does them right. Treading a very thin line between satirizing the game industry and being just as bad as the things it makes fun of, High Moon ostensibly provides us with the very definition of "hit and miss." There are moments in Deadpool that make me smirk, times when it's the right kind of audacious and makes a near-perfect mockery of so-called "AAA" videogames. There are other times, however, where the "game that knows it's a game" premise wears very thin, and other times where I felt a bit embarrasse??d playing. 

Fortunately, Nolan North does a stupendous turn as the mutant mercenary, delivering each line with the kind of enthusiastic mania one would expect of Wade Wilson. North's performance alone often carries what would otherwise be a total bomb of a joke, and his contribution to the genuinely witty moments cannot be overstated. If nothing else, Deadpool ??serves as an excellent showca??se of the man's talents. 

Of course, there's actually a videogame attached to all the sarcasm and slapstick, and it's a fairly entertaining one. Sharing many similarities with Raven Software's surprisingly-not-terrible X-Men Origins: Wolverine, this is a standard, relatively "safe" action game that largely delivers arena after arena of combat, interspersed with some light platforming and an obligatory ?charact?er unlock system. 

Taking to each level with twin blades and guns, Wilson can carve up enemies using simple button-mashing combos, or shoot them to pieces with a standardized trigger-based aiming setup. He can also combine melee and shooting to perform "Gunkata" attacks, and counterattack incoming blows by reacting to telegraphed button prompts ripped straight out of the Batman: Arkham games. Keeping combos flowing builds up Momentum, which can be used to pull off flashy moves, and each kill s?cores Deadpool Points, which can be spe??nt on unlocking new weapons, moves, and skills. 

Combat isn't exactly challenging, save for those moments where a small army of machine gun wielders appear to carve through the life bar like a knife through butter. Enemies mostly exist to be sliced and diced, and as a basic power fantasy, Deadpool deli?vers the goods. The result is an intuitive but well-worn system, one that does very little to surprise the player, while keeping itself focused and refined to a point where there's little to complain about. 

Of course, even with unlockable weapons and skills, an endless parade of slaughter eventually gets old. Deadpool's campaign clocks in at around six hours, and though that'd be considered by many to be short, the combat was formulaic enough to where I could've stood to have had an hour shaved off the running time. It's not that I wasn't having fun for those first five hours, but?? the final chapter was just a bit too much of the same flavor, an issue not helped by the rather repetitive bosses that acted more or less like souped up versions of generic mooks.&n?bsp;

Nevertheless, Deadpool has its moments. By far, its best stuff is found in the optional distractions. From messing about in Wade's apartment to suddenly appearing in retro-inspired sidescrolling levels, those precious moments where Deadpool shakes things up prove to b??e effectively pleasant hits.&nbsp??;

Not the best looking of games, but far from ugly, environments are surprising in their drabness, relying a bit too heavy on the b??rowns and the greys that undermin??e the exaggerated charm of the series upon which it is based. Textures tend to pop in fairly noticeably, too.

Animation, on the other hand, is pretty damn good, making combat appear satisfyingly meaty, and doing a great job of capturing the excitable silliness of the an??ti-hero. The ?character designs for Deadpool and his supporting cast are almost all really good, too. 

Deadpool is a fun game that wears out its welcome a little toward the end, but mostly gets away with being far better than it could have been. Though half the jokes fail pretty damn hard, the ones that succeed are worth seeing, while the focus on endless combat carries with it a certain purity that's hard to really screw up. Deadpool fans may be expecting something more daring, more exceptional, and more altogether original than this, but High Moon played it safe w?ith a straightforward slash 'em up and came out mostly a winner. 

It's a good little game, and not really anything more than that. It's not as "awesome" as Deadpool himself may tell you, but hey, it's about ten thousand times better than X-Men: Destiny, and I think we can all be thankful for that!

This week sees the return of Relic's superb World War 2 strategy series, Company of Heroes, with the bloody conf??lict in the Eastern Front being presen?ted in a brand new engine. Though it adds little more than extreme weather and a new, explosive campaign to the tried and tested formula, it's really rather splendid.

On top of this, the Biker action game, Ride to Hell: Retribution finally drops, after a bit of a delay; the merc with the mouth, Deadpool, gets his very own game; Dark leaps out of the shadows with a smattering of stealth and vampire action; and that really rather awful looking Spartacus Legends game is a thing.

Just don't!

Deadpool is off visiting the Marvel HQ to promote the Deadpool game. You know, because the Marvel headquarters totally needs to be reminded about his game. Still, it makes for some nice funny bi?ts as he harasses the various employees.

As for the game itself, Highmoon Studios today revealed their little vision of Wolve??rine. Surprise, he looks like Wolverine, yellow spandex and all. Deadpool has a nice little welcoming message for the leader of the X-Men below.

Oh hey, LOOK, it's everyone's faaaaaaaaavourite comic book character – Wolverine – appearing in yet ANOTHER thing he doesn't belong in – MY upcoming?? video game from Activision Publishing, Inc. and Marvel Entertainment,DEADPOOL, starring ME, Deadpool, and NOBODY ELSE.

Who a?pproved this?! What is with everyone loving Wolverine when I am cooler in every pos??sible way? Who has the cooler costume colour palette? Deadpool. Who can fight in melee AND at range? Deadpool! Who forgets his past through repression, like a NORMAL PERSON, rather than dumb amnesia? DEADPOOL!

Sigh...some top brass are telling me I'm contrac??tually obligated to say ONE nice thing about Wolverine before I go, so here goes...

Dear Wolverine: I guess?, when put asi??de the grand history of human conflict and suffering, the lame tank tops you insist on wearing sometimes aren't THAT bad, bub.

It's like a less-polished DmC, essentially

Deadpool has been a favorite of mine ever since I got into Marvel comics years ago. So I was pretty delighted when High Moon Studios announced it'd be working on a Deadpool game. The studio has done a rather good job with the Transformers license, and for the most part Deadpool: The Game is pretty decent base?d on what I got to play recently.

Basically, imagine DmC's combat mechanics, but just not as polished. Don't get me wrong, I liked my time with Deadpool and know I'll enjoy the game when it's released, but I think you're going to have to be a Marvel?? fan in general to appreciate th??is one.

Deadpool comic writer Daniel Way is behind the game adaptation, which sees the Merc with a Mouth get sucked into a conflict that involves Mr. Sinister taking out the X-Men and putting the Earth in danger ... or something. Cable time travels from the future to the Genosha level and tries to warn Deadpool of this dire news. Deadpool's not really paying attention, and gets so bored that he begs the pla?yer t??o shoot himself in the head. So, uh, you shoot yourself in the head! 

There will be many Marvel character appearances, and you'll run into Cable later where you'll immediately motorboat his chest thanks to one of Deadpool's many delusions making him see a large-breasted female saying she's his number-one fan inst?ead. ?Other characters you can expect include Wolverine, Domino, Lady Deathstrike, Archlight, Blockbuster, Vertigo, and more. They'll even be introduced in cool ways -- in the case of Cable, you're presented with a montage of Cable's appearances in comics all while a song plays that includes the lyrics: "Who the fuck is that? He's a man out of time! Who the fuck is that? He's fucking Cable!"

Deadpool is an expert with any weapon, and you'll have a variety at your disposal. Melee wise, you'll have swords, sais, and sledgehammers. As for guns, expect pistols, machine guns, laser guns, and shotguns. You can swap between all the weapons in real time via the d-pad, and yes, all the weapons come in pairs, even the? shotguns. You also have throwable weapons like grenades, mines, and bear traps. Plus you'll come across some oversized weaponry that you can use for a lim?ited time like a giant chaingun.

Using light and heavy attacks with the melee weapons is accomplished through two of the face buttons, while the triggers will be used to shoot your guns. Each of the melee weapons has four different ty?pes of area-of-effect attacks, and pressing the left bumper with one of the face buttons on the Xbox 360 controller will trigger this attack. One such attack has you spinning around on the floor with your swords like you're a break-dancing tornado. These power moves have a meter associated with them, and will need to be recharged before they can be triggered again.

When I saw Deadpool at gamescom, I was worried that the combat system wasn't going to have that right feel -- everything seemed a bit floaty. That's not a concern anymore, as the combat feels great. It's super easy to chain together different attacks, and it's pretty fluid bouncing between guns and melee weapons. What makes?? it really fun is the little t??eleport move where you can clear small distances in the blink of an eye. It's essentially an evade move, and blends in well with the fighting mechanics. 

While combat feels great, I'm worried the game may be a little too easy. Granted, the demo I played had Deadpool and all his weaponry pretty much leveled up like crazy, so I imagine it will be a little harder in the beginning. I'm ju????st mostly concerned there won't be a lot of depth when it comes to the enemies. Yes, there's an assortment of different bad guys but I don't see them offering that much of a challenge to players.

My? other main concern with Deadpool is the camera. All throughout the demo I had to babysit the camera via the right analog stick to give me the best view of the action. It's? not a deal-breaker; it just doesn't follow the action all that well and is something that might frustrate you in the beginning at least.

As for Deadpool himself, I was rather impressed with his writing. Deadpool and the two other pers?onalities in his head are constantly talking, and a lot of the stuff he does and says is pretty funny. Not really a fan of Nolan North's voice acting; granted, I'm just tired of hearing the same sounding voice in so many games at this point.

All in all I think Deadpool: The Game is going to be worth playing. Gameplay is fun but shallow, the visuals are nothing to be amazed by, and you'll most likely forget you ever? played this one when it comes time for all of the end-of-the-year festivities. Honestly, you may even want to wait for a sale or some kind of deal despite the lower price point. Still, I think it's going to be worth the ride and these issues that would ?hinder other games feels kind of right at home with something like Deadpool.

Mr. Sinister and Psylocke

Fresh off the news that the new Deadpool game will be launching at a cheaper pricepoint, two new characters have been revealed: Mr. Sinister, and Psylocke. As a major fan of both of them, I hope they have an interesting role to play -- maybe even more X-Men will be making a few cameos? Maybe I just want a full HD remake of one of the best games of all time: X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse?

I honestly have no idea how this game is going to turnout. I just hope it doesn't have a jokey fourth wall method of selling DLC -- I got enough of that in Dragon Age: Origins.

Well, I done goofed when I was making the thumbnail for this episode. The Evil Inside is not an actual video game. I am dumb.

$49.99 for consoles, $39.99 for PC

The Deadpool game is dated! Yay! It'll be out on June 25, 2013 and will run $49.99 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and $39.99 on the PC. Cheaper than your average game, and given how there's so much sh*tty games priced at the "standard" prices there's no way to tell if this is a good sign or bad sign. I really want the Deadpool game to be good, but I'm not so sure it will be.

But hey, if you want to give it a shot anyway there's some pre-order bonuses you should be aware of. Pre-order from GameStop or EBGames and you'll get the "Merc with a Map Pack" downloadable content which adds two new challenge maps, two costumes (D-Pooly and the Uncanny X-Force suits), and a digital w??allpaper.

Pre?-order from Amazon and you'll get $5 Amazon credit towards select Marvel graphic novels, digital wall?paper, and digital cover sleeves.

I should also note that Activision will throw a party at whatever U.S. GameStop that gets the most pre-orders for Deadpool. Deadpool himself w??ill even make an appearance. Radical.

Team working on Deadpool affected

In a statement provided to Kotaku, Activision has confirmed layoffs at Transformers and Deadpool developer High Moon ??S??tudios following completion of the latter game:

"Activision Publishing consistently works to align its costs with its revenues -- this is an ongoing process," reads the statement. "With the completion of development on Deadpool, we are taking a reduction in staff at High Moon Studios to better align our development talent against? our slate. Approximately, 40 full-time employees will be impacted globally. We are offering those employees who are? impacted outplacement counseling services."

This does not bode particularly well for a game that has had an iffy showing thus far. A real shame, considering the ??cha?racter and his devoted fan base. We so badly want this to turn out well.

Feeling lucky?

Domino will be in the Deadpool videogame! That's, like, all the real new news we have on the Deadpool gam??e. So h??ow did she end up in the game? Deadpool has the answers:

Dude, no brainer, man.  Have you seen pictures of her?  She is smokin&r?squo; hot.  And if that wasn’t enough (it totally is) she also knows how to handle a gun which turns me on.  She has a soft spot for pancakes in large volumes, loves blowing things up, knows my GUY <BLEEP> (sorry, spoilers!) AND she owes me a date.  (there’s the important part)  So this is kinda like that:  a date. I figure her Mutant power will help her ‘get lucky’ with me. (we see what you did there) Cross your fingers for a happy ending!  Did we mention that she is stupid hot?

I really like Domino's character, and it does make me happy to see her getting some more attention for once. I am worried about the game itself though, as I wasn't really wowed with it when I saw it at gamescom recently.

Oh, and whoever Activision hired as their "real l??ife" Deadpool is pretty?? damn great.

Metro: Last Light scraps multiplayer, which makes sense, and Sleeping Dogs announces some amazing-sounding DLC, and Dance Central 3 is great in spite of encouragin??g a sinful decadent lifestyle.
