Supertrick Games updated fans on its next project. The developer of Let it Die and Deathverse explained how this next title combines? the best parts of each of its previous releases to make something it believes fans have been se??arching for.

The developer shared a lot of information in the fun update video that's more tongue-in-cheek than filled with facts and details. In it, we get a look at a 'leaked' screenshot Uncle Death nabbed when a developer wasn't looking and learn that eating hamburgers and climbing buildings will be something you do a lot while playing. The game's DNA consists of roughly 20% Deathverse and 80% Let it Die, and fans are ??already excited at the prospect of playing this pe??rfect combination.

The above dev diary is a 10-minute look into the minds of the development team at Supertrick Games, and it's just as wacky as you'd expect. I wasn't prepared for how much I'd laugh at what I though??t would be a serious game development update, but it was more of a lengthy discussion about internal leaks and hamburgers. But it's exactly that attitude to the industry that's earned Supertrick such a great reputation, and fans are excited for this next ga?me.

In the video, the game's director, Hideyuki Shin, explains how this new title contains short, roguelike exploration runs while introducing both co-op and PvP elements for players to contend with. It takes the battle royale elements from Deathverse and fits them around the short gameplay bursts that Let it Die was built around. He explained that, "We’r????e trying to take the fun parts from both games to make something new."

To me, the game sounds like it'll have a world for players to fight through where co-op is optional, but there are always other players present. This would give you the option for all kinds of multiplayer experiences. On Reddit, fans immediately began reliving how much they struggled with both Deathverse and Let it Die ??but can't w??ait to relive that pain again in what's to come.

User OppositeofDeath puts it best. "The original Let It Die has one of the best art styles EVER. It fucking OOZED Suda51. And I have a soft spot for the gameplay systems despite how rough they are. Plus the online systems were really fun and engaging. But the monetization was absolutely horseshit and absolutely pay-to-win. Deathverse kicked the art style and looked incredibly basic gameplay wise. It had no appeal for me. The?re is I?MMENSE potential for this franchise, if they only they go back to the first’s art style, world design, and lose the terrible monetization, and just charge a flat price. And f**k it, get Suda back on board. A boy can dream."

As someone who really loved and was thoroughly frustrated by Let it Die, I'm excited to see what this?? next title looks like. The fresh look and combination of mechanics could pull it out of obscurity and make it something a wider audience is ready to sink its teeth into.

However, in truth, both of these games have struggled to gain an audience and go the distance. While I'm all for sticking to your guns and realizing your?? vision, I can't help but think that twice now, Supertrick Games has just missed the mark, and I hope it doesn't repeat that for a third time.

Technical Difficulties. Please Stand By.

Publisher GungHo Online Entertainment has made the bold announcement that it will be suspending service of its online multiplayer title Deathverse: Let it Die on all platforms Come July 18, the free-to-play shooter will be taken offline, where it will enter a pe?ri?od of "redevelopment", pending relaunch.

"There is no doubt that we experienced some challenges since the launch of our game, particularly with regards to in-game matchmaking and lag. We deeply apologize for these issues that may have caused an inconvenience to our players," reads a state??ment from developer SuperTrick Games.

"While we have tried various solutions to some degree of success, we have not been able to resolve the underlying problems. As a result, the development and operations teams have made the decision to temporarily suspend the game’s services while we redevelop Deathverse: Let It Die. This was a difficult decision for us to make. However, we believe that re-relea?sing the game with significant improvements will allow it to be enjoyed by a wider audience as well as our cu??rrent players."

"Thank you so much for your constant support of Deathverse: Let It Die. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who enjoys and enriches the ??game and its community [...] We will be doing our utmost to prepare for the re-release so that our current community can enjoy the game alongside many more new players in the future. We greatly appreciate your understanding and support."

Launching in May of 2022, Deathverse: Let it Die is a hard-hitting multiplayer battler set against the backdrop of a ruined world, having been devastated by a cataclysmic natural disaster. In this new age, the people are entertained??? by a violent game show, Death Jamboree, which sees warriors from all corners of the globe battle it out for big cash prizes and the satiation of bloodlust.

While at a glance a typical battle royale title, Deathverse stands apart from its many contemporaries thanks to its cool steampunk aesthetic, its wild and classy character designs, and its TV-style presentation, ?even encouraging Twitch viewers to get in on the action with a pseudo-betting system and viewer votes. Unfortunately, the title is yet to secure a large audience, with some pointing at a boring grind mechanic and a plethora of issues with connectivity and matchmaking.

Hopefully, the coming downtime will allow the developers to relaunch Deathverse in a cleaner, tauter state, lest D?eath Jamboree join the litany of sho??ws that find themselves not renewed for season two.

The PvPvE survival battle arena game won't be stuck on PlayStation

Like its predecessor, Deathverse: Let It Die will be playable on PC. The wacky multiplayer survival action game led with PS4 and PS5 as its only platforms, but GungHo Online and Supertrick Games confirmed a PC version in a live developer stream with Uncle Death.

A couple of weeks ago, Deathverse committed to a fall 2022 release window, after previously eying a spring l?aunch. The delay came about in the wake of?? an open beta test.

"We got a lot of data from the beta," explained game director Hideyuki Shin, "and ?we're planning to make as many adjustmen??ts as we can."

Some of the world-building vibes and close-up combat antics will feel familiar to Let It Die fans, but Deathverse has carved out a different path with 16-player Death Jamboree matches, in which participants try to stay alive long enough to duke it out in the Showdown Zone. All the while, powerful hun?ters can join ??the fray, and cryptids including the chupacabra and jackalope mingle with the hyperviolent contestants.

The goal is to be bold enough to earn GP (Good Points) and power up, but not be so bold that you bite off more than you can chew and get taken out. Cla?ssic battle royale ??strats.

Let It Die surprisingly ended up having the right stuff it accumulated millions of players. Whether Deathverse: Let It Die can capture lightning in a bottle again, I'm not so sure, but anything's possible. Having the game accessible on not just PS4/PS5, but also S?team, where free-to-play audiences have a chance to really snowball, feels crucial.

If nothing else, it warms ?my heart to ??know that Uncle Death's still a jokester.

The open beta wasn't just for show

After hosting an open beta in May, GungHo Online Entertainment and Supertrick Games have announced a new, later-than-expected release window for Deathverse: Let It Die on PS4 and PS5. The hack-and-slash carnage will now have? to wait unt?il fall 2022.

As producer Shuji Ishikawa explained on the PlayStation Blog, the team chose to hold Deathverse: Let It Die past its original spring launch "due to the results from the open beta?."

The developers are "working hard to make this game the best it can be," according to Ish?ikawa??, and part of that means "incorporating the feedback from the open beta survey."

Building on the surprisingly popular antics of Let It Die while also doing its own thing, Deathverse is a survival TV reality show where competitors wield weapons like a buzzsaw, katana, or a? giant hammer. Players have a robotic "Wilson" by their side that can transform into a shield mid-combat. It's a weird game! But we like weird.

Come on down to the Death Jamboree

It's got a familiar battle royale vibe with an increasingly "contaminated" play space, as well as cryptids to fight and ominous hunters to flee from while you're up against 15 other human players vying for televised glory. "Beat up your foes with flashy moves, and you’ll thrill the audience, earning GP ??(Good Points) in the process. Gaining GP will increase your voltage and attack power, giving you a further advantage in ba??ttle." The naming gets me.

[caption id="attachment_337697" align="alignnone" width="900"]Deathverse: Let It Die cryptids Cryptids are "tricky and imposing foes, attacking participants, imitating human voices, and so on."[/caption]

If you haven't been keeping tabs, you haven't missed too much. We already know that Deathverse will be free-to-play, whi?ch is a good con??firmation to get out of the way.

Even if the monetization hooks end up being too in-your-face, at least it'll have a chance of building a big-enough audience to sustain itself. As a premium game, I wouldn't hold my breath at all. With a PvP-centered format, folks who dug Grasshopper Manufacture's grindy-but-memorable Let It Die may not stick around past a ??cursory check-in at la??unch.

Deathverse: Let It Die is enough of an oddball release that I'll give it a chance. See you this fall? (With a healthy dose of I've-been-burned-before c?aution to set expectations?)
