Deepwoken is hardcore, and so will you have to be if you want to discover everything the game has to offer. But first, you'll have to create a character, and the choices you make will hugely influence both your gameplay and build. To help you get started, here is our complete Deepwoken character creation guide.

Race and Body Type

Race is the only thing during character selection in Deepwoken that you can only change by paying Robux. It affects your attributes and gives you special traits that you can check out in the table below. To learn which races are best, check out our race tier list.

Race reroll chances are adjusted depending on your current race's rarity

Should You Reroll Your Race?

When you create a slot, you'll be assigned a random race, and when you reroll, you'll get an option to keep either the new or the old race. So, as a rule of thumb, it's better to create a new slot for 200 Robux instead of rerolling race for 150 Robux (the price difference isn't that big). Naturally, if you maxed out your slots, you'll have to reroll your race? to c??hange it.

Also, race variants are all cosmetic, except for Capra, where they provide slightly different bonuses depending on the variant. The difference is ?really minor, so choose whichever variant you think looks the best.

Names

Names in Deepwoken are entirely cosmetic, and you should choose any name and surna?me you consider the coolest. Also, there are many names from popular games and anime, including One Piece, FMA, Elden Ring, and Frieren: Beyond?? Journey's End.

Face, Markings, Ornaments, and Hair

As with names, the face, facial markings, and ornaments are all purely cosmetical, and most of these settings are either locked to your race or have a set of predefined options. Generally, these three are considered to be the most irrelevant choices during character creation in Deepwoken.

However, hair is different. It has four slots, and you can use any hair from the Roblox marketplace by copying its Asset ID (e.g., roblox.com/catalog/4707728483/Timber-Elf-Hair). Stacking them on top of each other works, and hair that is Off Sale is also good to use. The only requirement is that you select hair assets from Heads -> Hair.

Starting Weapon

The starting weapon choice is important as it sets you on the path to leveling a certain weapon type (Heavy, Medium, Light). You can start using a different weapon type later in the progression, but in that case, all the points invested in the previous type will be useless. Here are all t?he starter weapons and how to unlock them:

Heavy Weapons

  • Battleaxe: Available from the start. It has slow swing speed and good base damage.
  • Avenger: Unlock it by upgrading to the fourth tier of Advanced Weapons (Echoes shop in character creation). It's arguably worse than the Battleaxe.

Medium Weapons

  • Sword: Available from the start. It has balanced stats and is generally the most popular weapon.
  • Irontusk: Unlock it by upgrading to the second tier of Advanced Weapons (Echoes shop in character creation). It has better range, scaling, and penetration than the sword.

Light Weapons

  • Stiletto: Available from the start. It's considered to be the worst starter weapon.
  • Way of Navae: Unlock it by finding a Navaen Nomad Captive in Erisia or Fort Merit. Then, bring it back to the Eastern Camp Master (Etris) or Beiruul (Meteor Isle).
  • Jus Karita: Unlock it by reaching Power 5 and having 40 stats in Light Weapon Mastery. Then, talk to the Justicar Polis at Etris and ask him about the Justicars.
  • Legion Kata: Do the Legion Scout quests or help the Legion Captain in the Legion vs Authority Lieutenant events at Starswept Valley until you get a commendation. Then, go to the Viper's Jaw in Lower Erisia and give the commendation to Amara to unlock Legion Kata. It's considered to be the best fist combat style.
  • Quickfang: Unlock it by upgrading to the first tier of Advanced Weapons (Echoes shop in character creation). It's a really bad weapon, but it allows you to get rapier talents early on.
  • Silversix: Unlock it by upgrading to the third tier of Advanced Weapons (Echoes shop in character creation). It's the only pistol/rifle starting weapon.

Which Starting Weapon is the Best for Beginners?

Generally, all heavy and medium starting weapons are viable. However, for light weapons, Legion Kata and Silversix are by far the best. If you're a beginner, you won't ??have either of those unlocked?, so choose any weapon that fits your playstyle.

Attunements (Starting Magic)

Attunements are forms of magic specialization. By selecting one during character creation, you'll get a +10 starting bonus in that type of magic (affects which mantras you can get). There are four attunements you have unlocked by default and thre??????????????????????????e more that you can unlock in the world.

The first time you choose an attunement (out of the four default ones), others will be then locked, and you'll have to choose Random to unlock them one by one. Here is the list of ?all attunement choices and what they do:

Attunement Description How to Get
None You will start attunement-less. The mantra and talent options you get will depend on your basic attributes (Strength, Fortitude, etc.). Always available.
Random Grants you a random one out of the four default attunements. Always available.
Flamecharm Gives you access to Flamecharm mantras from the start, which are mostly damage-oriented with AoE and DoT. Choose at the start or by using Random.
Frostdraw Gives you access to Frostdraw mantras from the start, which focus on area denial and debuffs. Choose at the start or by using Random.
Thundercall Gives you access to Thundercall mantras from the start, which focus on damage, mobility, and CC. Choose at the start or by using Random.
Galebreathe Gives you access to Galebreathe mantras from the start, which focus on mobility, projectiles, and AoE damage. Choose at the start or by using Random.
Ironsing Gives you access to Ironsing mantras from the start, which focus on single-target damage and utility. 1. Obtain a Pluripotent Alloy.
2. Visit Adar at Miner's Landing.
3. Deliver 6 ores (Iron, Gold, Erisore, Irithine, Astruline, and Umbrite) to him.
4. Drink the Alloyed Elixir.
Bloodrend Gives you access to Bloodrend mantras from the start, which focus on HP drain and 1v1 combat. 1. Kill Chaser.
2. Visit Vyrelda at the Firfire Village.
3. Kill 3 Ministry Bloodrenders and then deliver 3 Heartstars to Vyrelda.
4. Drink the Curseblood Potion.
Shadowcast Gives you access to Shadowcast mantras from the start, which focus on debuffs, Ether drain, and AoE damage. 1. Get 5 Umbral Obsidian.
2. Deliver them to Nostor in the City of the Drowned sewers.
3. Drink the Nightblood Potion.

What Attunement Should You Choose as a Beginner?

If you're a beginner, it's good to try out different attunements with Random and even attunement-less by choosing None. That way, you can familiarize yourself with all the different abilities, which will help you devise your own builds and? predict your enemies' moves in PvP.

Basic Attributes (Starting Stats)

Basic attributes affect a lot of your character's stats, such as carry load, damage, HP, etc. More importantly, they affect which weapons and gear you can equip and which mantras (if attunement-less) and talents ??you can get. Here is what each basic attribute does and what kind of equipment you'll need it for??:

Attribute Effects
Strength
(STR)
Increases Carry Load by 1 per point.
Increases melee and mantra penetration by 0.1% per point.
Most heavy and some medium weapons require a high Strength stat.
Fortitude
(FTD)
Increases your chances to resist food poisoning when eating raw materials (you can eat almost anything and not vomit with 50+ Fortitude).
Increases your HP by 0.5 per point.
Shields and some weapons and helmets require a high Fortitude stat.
Agility
(AGI)
Increases climbing height, slide speed, slide distance, roll distance, and the power of speed bonuses from parkour.
Increases your character's Stealth by 0.2% per point (reduces vision cones of NPCs and Monsters).
Some offhand weapons require a high Agility stat.
Intelligence
(INT)
Increases Ether by 2 per point.
Increases potion potency and damage with Iron Bombs.
Some weapons require a high Intelligence stat.
Willpower
(WIL)
Increases your Sanity by 3 per point.
Increases your Tempo by 0.5 per point.
Decreases the time you are knocked down for by 0.05s per point.
Legendary weapon Light's Final Toll requires 60 Willpower.
Charisma
(CHR)
Increases Ether by 1.5 per point.
Required to pass certain dialogue checks.
â€?NPCs will positively respond to your citations from How To Make Friends at 33 charisma, and eagerly at 66 charisma.
Legendary weapon Kyrsieger requires 15 Charisma.

What is the Best Beginner Attributes Distribution?

There are no best beginnner attributes in Deepwoken. Unless you're following a build and know which attributes you'll need early on, it's best you unassign all attribute points during character creation and instead, use them later on attunement attributes or weapon attributes. That way, you can get a?ccess to high-level weapon/attunement mantras and talents fairly quick?ly.

Boons and Flaws

By picking flaws and boons during character creation in Deepwoken, you can alter your start and make progression easier. You can pick up two flaws (only one if you select Simple) and boons at most. Here are all the boons and flaws you can select, including their ??effect?s:

Boon Effect Points Flaw Effect Points
Gourment Increase Hunger/Thirst gain from food and drinks by 150%. 1 Vegetarian You can only eat plant-based foods (locks out Carnivore; enables Herbivore and Iron Gut. 1
Maverick Increases stat EXP gain by ~10% if you kill an NPC alone. 1 Obvious Grants you -20% Stealth, allowing Enemies/Monsters to spot you from a further distance, and with less difficulty when not crouching. 1
Steadfast Reduces the amount of armor durability lost from being damaged by 25%. 1 Deficient Reduced Ether regeneration by a flat ammount. 1
Packmule Carry load is increased by 50, item stack limits are increased by 25% (rounded), and food max quantity is slightly increased. 1 Glutton Hunger and Thirst depletion is increased by ~75%. 1
Autodidact Gain 3 free points every Power up, consuming an investment each use. Does not generate points over the total maximum. 1 Squeamish Lose ~2.5% Hunger when gripping NPCs or other players. 1
Survivalist Grants immunity to acid rain. Parasites accumulate on you ~33% slower. 1 Haemophilia Blood loss from all sources is increased. 1
Scrapper Every other (2nd, 4th, 6th, etc.) card roll, you gain an extra ace. 1 Manic All incoming Insanity and Insanity Damage is increased. 1
Sly Reduces amount of negative rep gained.
(Unlock it by paying off your negative reputation with any faction)
/ Simple Increases the EXP curve, making leveling slower, especially on later levels. 2
/ / / Fugitive Start with low reputation toward all factions.
(Unlock it by earning a negative reputation with a faction that wasn't negative at the start)
1

Which are the Best Boons and Flaws for Beginners?

Some flaws can depend on your build, while some are just generally good to take. For example, Deficient gives you a straight-up free point if you're planning to get Oath: Silentheart, while Manic and Simple are regarded as the flaws with the least detrimental effect, making them solid picks overall.

On the other hand, boons such as Scrapper and Autodidact are good to take whenever, as they speed up progression and allow you to get stronger mantras and talents earlier. Steadfast and Packmule are also good choices, thou??gh they are no??t be as unversal as the former two.

Origin

Origin is one of the more important choices you'll have to make during character creation in Deepwoken, as it determines your spawn, starting gear, and starting reputation. Here a??re all the origins you can choose and ho?w to unlock them:

Origin Spawns, Gear, & Reputation Pros & Cons How to Unlock
Castaway Etris and Isle of Vigils spawns
Default gear
Friend of Kingdom of Etrea and Lost Celtor

The most default origin Available at the start.
Lone Warrior Minityrsa spawn (Trial of One)
Same setup as the Castaway
Allows you to quickly reach Power 6
Allows use of the Shrine of Solitude
Default spawn is really bad
Wipe a slot.
Defeat the Thresher in the Trial of One.
Deepbound Castle Light and Diluvian Mechanism spawns
Friend of Divers and Lost Celtor

Go to the 2nd Layer of The Depths and save Epsi. Then, return to Alpha in the union base.
Do the Orion's quest by clearing Summer Company enemies and report back to him.

What is the Best Beginner Origin?

Lone Wolf is by far the best beginner origin in Deepwoken. So, if you just created your first slot, wipe it instantly to unlock Lone Wolf. Then, roll with that origin until you master the Trial of One (play the game regularly after completing the trial; no need to spam it). That way, you'll speed up y?our progression and experience all the content the game has to? offer much sooner.

Well, that covers all you need to know about character creation in Deepwoken. For more content, including our Deepwoken beginner's guide, visit the Roblox section here on Destructoid.

Roblox’s Deepwoken RPG doesn’t hold your hand and is scarce with explanations, so I’m going to run you through the first few hours. I’ll teach you some basics about leveling, farming resources, talents, and other mechanics so that you can get a great start. Here’s my ultimate Deepwoken beginner’s guide.

Ultimate Beginner’s Guide for Deepwoken

We’ll start from the basics, like creating your character, and then move o??n to leveling. This is also where we'll talk about the main mechanics, like Talents and combat tips. Once the basics are done, I'll show you where to farm notes and gear in a much safer and more productive way than just going to ?Lower Erisia.

Character Creation Guide in Deepwoken

Th?ere are a few important tips during character creati?on that you should have in mind. Here are the basics:

  • Race: For the best races to roll for, check out our Deepwoken race tier list.
  • Weapon: I recommend starting with the Sword to lear??n the combat system, which we’ll talk about below, and avoiding the Stiletto.
  • Stats: I highly recommend you get 5 Strength and 5 Willpower for the Carnivore Talent for minimizing Hunger/Thirst, which we’ll talk about later. Otherwise, the starting racial stat boosts aren’t that important at the beginning since we’ll level them up easily ourselves.
  • Mantra (Element): These are your magic skills called Mantras, and all the elements are good in Deepwoken, so pick your favorites.
  • Boons & Flaws: It’s important to pick Boons that come up often or don’t in the case of Flaws. Great boons are Steadfast, Pack Mule, Survivalist, and Scrapper while good flaws to take are Hemophilia, Manic, and Simple.
  • Tutorial: Don’t skip the tutorial since it’ll teach you useful information as well as grant you a Mantra talent right away.

From here, I would start with the default Etria origin since I’ll have some t???ips later on this starting location.

How to Level Up in Deepwoken

Deepwoken’s levels are called Power levels, and you level up by spending all Investment points. Each Power level has 15 Investment points that you can spend to level up your stats. Note that your first Power level will have less because you’ve alrea??dy increased some stats du??ring character creation. To spend Investment points, you need to do three things:

  • Step 1: Figure out which stat you want to increase based on what equipment/Talents you want. For example, you need Strength for heavy weapons, Fortitude for shields, the Light/Medium/Heavy Weapon stat to be able to wield specific weapons, your elemental stat for better Mantras (spells), etc. You also need mental stats for certain talents.
  • Step 2: You have to earn both General XP from killing enemies and exploring as well as stat-specific XP by doing activities related to your stat. For example, the L/M/H weapon stat XP is earned by using a specific weapon, Strength by chopping wood, Fortitude by taking damage, the elemental stat by casting Mantras, mental stats by exploration, etc.
  • Step 3: When you have enough XP to increase a stat, you’ll get a notification that you need a specific piece of equipment to increase it. Now, you need to buy, equip, and use that piece of equipment to increase a stat. Here are the best ones found at the Antiquarian for each stat:
    • Strength: Dumbbell
    • Agility: Anckle Weights
    • Fortitude: Boulder
    • Willpower: Prayer Beads
    • Intelligence: Encyclopedia
    • Charisma: Friend Book
    • Mantra: You’ll have one already (For example, it’s the Self Conducing Loop for Thundercall).

    • Weapons: Weapon Book.

To check whether you have enough XP to increase a stat, just use the appropriate item. Your Power increases once y??ou use all points and you get new talents. Your Invest?ment points then reset to 15.

Talent Guide in Deepwoken

Talents are the main special ability mechanic in the game. They come in the form of cards you can select from a set of different ones each time you increase your Power level. Talents have prerequisites like stats, level, and othe??r Talents, so some won’t show up until you get all the pr?erequisites. You can usually pick whichever ones sound best to you, but I highly recommend going for these:

  • Carnivore (Requires 5 S, 5 W, which we got in Character Creation): You heal when you finish off NPCs, players, and monsters, which keeps you sustained while exploring. Note that yo?u can’t heal from vegetation anymore, and don’t pick the Vegetarian flaw or Herbivore as they delete this talent.
  • Warrior’s Respite (Requires 15 F): Heals you when you stand still which is free healing during exploration without a campfire.
  • Conditioned Runner (Requires Scaredy Cat and Endurance Runner Talents): More healing during exploration and combat when you sprint.
  • Ghost (Requires 40 A, Swift Rebound, Evasive Expert, and Risky Moves Talents): Rolls and dodges make you invisible, which is one of the best Talents in the game.

These are some of the best Talents in the game so always pick them or their prerequisites. You need a total of 40 Agility, 25 Fortitude, 5 Strength, and 5 Willpower to get them all. Don’t take Safety Dance or Observation, as they’ll lock you out of the above talents.

Furthermore, y?ou can guarantee common prerequisite talents via the Mystic for a small Notes fee. Note that you can also Freeze a Tal??ent you like when picking them during a Power-up or Burn the ones you don’t like deleting them forever. Freezes and Burns are to the right of the Power-up talent-picking icon, and you get them back while leveling up.

Best Early Items in Deepwoken (Armor, Glider, and Canteen)

early gear guide in deepwoken roblox

As soon as you spawn in your starting Etria location, there’s an NPC in the starting inn that you can talk to for free Notes. Then, go to the Smith. Check behind the side door for a young apprentice NPC and talk to them. Choose the option not to tell on them, and they’ll give you a discount on materials. From here, do the following:

  • Armor: Buy a Cloth from the table and talk to the Smith to create your first armor.
  • Free Axe for Wood: Go talk to the white-haired Korin NPC near the Antiquarian and get a free Axe by agreeing to chop wood.
  • Glider: Use the Axe on the tree near the Smith to get both Wood and Beeswax which we need later. Then buy 2 Cloth and use the Crafting table at the Smith by placing Wood in the top left menu and clicking Craft for Sticks. Combine 2 Cloth and 2 Sticks in that same crafting menu to get a Glider. You can use this to glide with N.

  • Canteen: Go into the woods in front of the starting town following the main stone path until you reach a green bush and gather Calabash fruit from it. Combine Calabash and the Beeswax we got earlier for a Canteen that you can store water in to make Thirst easier.

??As for advanced weapons and armor, go to the farming guide below.

Crafting and Cooking Guide in Deepwoken How to Manage Hunger and Thirst

You can easily access the crafting menu by hitting Tab, it’s in the top left. You usually need a Campfire or a Crafting Station to craft items, though. These can be found in towns or you can craft a Campfire with Flint and Wood. You can also che??ck your ??known recipes here or look them up online.

Starting out, you’ll need to secure some food and water to start off. This is best done through crafting. I’ll show you how to craft a Canteen for storing water below in the beginner items guide. That said, you can always just drink water from wells in towns and other locations.

As for food, I highly recommend starting with Mushroom Soups, Bread, or Fish. You can find Wheat and Mushrooms everywhere, so always pick them up when you can. At a campfire you can make a Mushroom Soup by combining any two different types of mushroom. This restores both Hunger and Thirst. As for Bread, it's made from 3 Wheat, which is also a great early-game food item. Lastly, you can also craft a fishing Rod with 1 Fiber and?? 2 Sticks and catch Fish for food, more on that in our Fishing guide.

Deepwoken Combat Tips

combat tips guide in deepwoken roblox

The Deepwoken combat system is al??l about parrying attacks, dodging well, feints, and attacking at the right time with weap??ons and Mantras. Here are some combat tips to keep in mind:

  • Animation and Roll Canceling: Hitting Feint (M2) cancels your attack so that you can trick your opponent into parrying, and then you can attack past their block. More importantly, there’s also a trick where you can hit Feint immediately after a Roll to cancel the roll animation and attack right away or roll again quickly. You can also cancel Mantras, but note that this will consume Ether.
  • Parrying: Hitting F once makes you Parry, but holding it means you block all damage. Practice timing your parries to enemy attacks, and once their combo ends, you can retaliate.
  • Rebind Roll: I highly recommend you rebind the Roll from Q to another key of your choice so that you can Roll more reliably. This goes for all keybinds in the Settings menu in the top left.
  • Combo Ender: Hitting M1 attacks repeatedly will end in a kick that pushes your opponent, meaning that this is when a combo ends. In PVP and while fighting humanoid NPCs, you can use this to see when their combo ends and counterattacks.
  • Vent: Once the short blue bar at the bottom called Tempo fills up to half, you can hit G to spend it and push all enemies away from you. Great when getting overwhelmed.
  • Sliding: While sprinting or jumping from a sprint, you can hit Crouch (Ctrl by default) to slide. If you jump from a slide, you’ll jump further, giving you more mobility options.
  • Get Ranged Mantras: All Mantras are great, but I would recommend getting ranged ones first to diversify your arsenal. You get more Mantras and also upgrade them as you increase the corresponding elemental stat that you chose at character creation.

How to Farm Gear and Notes in Deepwoken Early

lower erisia farming gear guide in deepwoken roblox
Screenshot by Destructoid

O?nce you get your basic equipment, it’s time to head out. That said, I don’t recommend going to the Lower Erisia landmass right away since there are a lot of PVP players hunting for beginners there. Instead, we’re going to sail on the outskirts of Lower and Upper Erisia, looking for small islands with loot chests there:

  • Step 1: Follow the Sail quest icon on your HUD until you reach a place where you can spawn a free basic boat.
  • Step 2: Take your boat towards Lower Erisia, but don’t go to the main island. Instead, sail around the Lower and Upper Erisia main landmasses (Use the Map) and try to spot small island chunks. Look for ones with 2-4 NPC humanoid enemies like bandits or zombies. There are even small stone block islands with smaller loot chests around. If you see larger monsters on these islands or enemies with Mantra abilities I would avoid them for now.
  • Step 3: Once you spot a smaller island with bandits, zombies, or similar low-level humanoid enemies, approach, aggro, and bait them near your boat. You can attack them without leaving the boat at all, and they’ll drown once knocked out. If you feel confident, go to the island and defeat any remaining enemies to find a couple of chests full of gear and treasure.
  • Step 4: Once you loot one or two of these islands, I would either go back to your starting town and sell the loot you haven’t equipped to the Antiquarian. Alternatively, look for a lone ship with blue-ish sales because this is the wandering merchant where you can also sell gear.
  • Step 5 (Optional): Look for a Purple Orb on the seas that you can pick up by swimming to it and getting it back on your boat by going to the back of the boat and hitting Steer. Sell this to the Banker in town for Notes and gear.

Repeat this a few times and you’ll have a lot of great gear, Notes, and upgrade materials early. Not to mention XP to increase with your training items. I highly recommend leaving your Notes and spare gear at the Bank before heading ou????t again since you can lose them if you die.

User Interface Guide in Deepwoken What Do All The Bars Mean?

Here’s w??hat all the bars and icon??s on your HUD mean:

  • Health Bar: The largest orange bar is your HP, which will turn rusty after one life and blue while in the Depths.
  • Poise Bar: Above the HP bar is Poise, which is your block meter. If this fills up while blocking, your guard will break, and you’ll be exposed.
  • Armor Bar: Beneath HP is a thin gray bar signifying your armor. Once this runs out, your armor will break, so I recommend going to the Smith and repairing it once it’s about 40% to 50% down. Just talk to the Smith, click on your armor on the left, and click Repair at the bottom.
  • Natural Armor: If you’re a Vesperian or have natural armor, a thin green bar will show up beneath your armor bar with a similar purpose.
  • Cooldown Icons: Beneath your armor are icons signifying when your Roll, Feint, Parry, etc., are on cooldown.
  • Ether: The long pale green bar at the bottom is your Ether or Mana for using your Mantra (Spell) abilities.
  • Tempo: The short blue bar at the bottom?? beneath Ether is your Tempo bar, wh??ich increases Ether regeneration during combat and allows you to Vent once you fill up half.
  • Blood, Thirst, and Hunger: In the bottom left is your Blood bar on the far left, which is used to regenerate health at a campfire. It’s followed by Thirst, which is filled with water, and Hunger, which is filled with food. Thirst blurs your screen when low and isn’t lethal, but Hunger can heavily debuff you in various ways, so keep this high. On the other hand, running out of Blood is lethal.
  • Notes & Knowledge: Your currency and knowledge points are to be used at Shrines to reroll stats.

What Happens When You Die and How to Revive in Deepwoken

Each of your characters gets three lives in Deepwoken. The first time you die, you’ll respawn back at the inn, and your HP bar will turn rusty. You’ll also lose some gear and all your Notes. At this point, you can earn back an extra life just by increasing your Power to the next level. However, if you die while your HP bar is rusty, you’ll lose your second life and be transported to The Depths.

This is a special and highly dangerous area where you can either fully revive your character or lose them permanently. I highly recommend you check out our full Death & Revive guide for more details. It’ll guide you through The Depths as you:

  • Travel safely to the city at the center of the map.
  • Ring the two bell towers there.
  • Head into the center of the city through the gate, which opens after the two bells are rung.
  • Fight a copy of yourself and beat it, causing you to fully revive with all lives.

Note that if you die in the Depths, you’ll be transported to the Fragment of Self area, which is the permadeath area. Your last chance here is to interact with the Shrine in front of a copy of yourself. This Shrine can fully revive you once if you pay a Robux fee. Note that you must?? be at least Power 1 for this fea??ture.

That’s it for my ultimate Deepwoken beginner’s guide. As you can see, it’s all about learning how stats, Talents, combat, and leveling work as well as where to grind. You’ll learn the combat system over time just by playing. Stay tuned to Destructoid for more Deepwoken guides, like our full character creation walkthrough.

Deepwoken has a varied number of races, each with their own unique passive abilities and stat boosts. Let’s talk about the best races in terms of how flexible they are for both PVP and PVE. Here’s my complete race tier list in Deepwoken.

Complete Race Tier List in Deepwoken

I’ll be rating all the base races of Deepwoken from S Tier to C Tier with explanations for each one. Before we start, note that all races are balanced against each other in terms of stat boost, so each one can be good depending on your playstyle. This is why you shouldn’t really worry about stats when picking a race since you can train anything you want easily in Deepwoken.

However, the unique abilities of certain races can sometimes be better overall than those of others, which is how I rate them. I’ve also included base chances to roll each one, but know that chances for other races increase once you roll your first one. Lastly, I’m only taking into account mechanical power and not appearance or cosmetics.

S Tier Deepwoken Races

Here are the?? overall best races that you should almost never reroll becaus??e their benefits are just universally good for all builds:

  • Vesperian (6.7%): This is the best PVP/PVE race in the game in terms of raw power since they uniquely get natural armor. This damage reduction buff even replenishes at a campfire and stacks with the Exoskeleton talent. You can’t go wrong with a Vesperian.
  • Adret (17.8%): Now Adret is extremely flexible since they get an extra 3 free stat point increases each time your Power increases. This allows you to aim for specific stats and their Talents much more easily. Furthermore, you get a reputation buff with all factions which is always useful.

A Tier Deepwoken Races

Up next, we have four races with superb benefits that are also quite useful for all? builds but just need a little extra power or player skill for S Tier:

  • Khan (8.9%): I was debating putting Khan in S-Tier since their ability fills a similar role to Adret but ended up leaving S-Tier more exclusively. Still, Khan is a great race to roll, allowing you to get a 3-stat discount specifically for equipping items. This can be quite powerful, allowing you to skip to better gear with a little less grind.
  • Felinor (8.9%): If you know how to utilize Felinor’s ability to climb surfaces quicker than other races in PVP and PVE, then they become S Tier. They just give you more mobility options and that Stealth buff is nothing to sneeze at.
  • Capra (2.2%): I love Capra as a support race, and every team in both PVE and PVP will love you if you’re a Capra. Your three marks are all healing yourself and allies and buffing blood regen, food, and thirst regen, and sanity loss, depending on the mark. They would be in S Tier if I wasn’t playing solo all the time.
  • Tiran (2.2%): Tiran are a great beginner race that grant you a free and improved Glider on spawn. Anybody can get a Glider eventually, but Tirans get them right away, and it’s a more powerful one because it has a slower descent rate, so you can cover more distance.

B Tier Deepwoken Races

ganymede and gremor races in deepwoken ranked

In B-Tier, we have a few races that either need you to have a lot of experience to make them great or just aren’t as ?strong as A-Tier:

  • Ganymede (2.2%): Ganymede get a huge discount on using Deep Shrines, and if you’re a veteran who knows how to utilize them well early, Ganymede becomes a higher-tier race.
  • Gremor (13.3%): Gremor are interesting because the Compass ability that they get can be quite useful to new players to orient themselves around the map. Furthermore, reduced hunger loss and the bonus when blinded aren’t bad either. Overall, they’re a decent choice to roll which is why they’re in B-Tier.
  • Etrean (17.8%): Honestly, Etrean aren’t anything special either, and they could be lower if the C-Tier races weren’t so mid. The only reason Etrean are higher than the bottom three is that the negative status effect reduction can be useful along with the Acid Rain defense.

C Tier Deepwoken Races

celtor, chrysid and canor races in deepwoken ranked
Screenshot by Destructoid

Lastly, the C-Tier races aren’t bad but just lack that extra punch or have abilities that are ??usually not that impactful:

  • Celtor (17.8%): Celtor can be the most useful out of the three C-Tier races because the sea vessel buffs and discounts can save you a pretty penny from time to time.
  • Chrysid (4.4%): Chrysid reveals enemies that attack them, which is only useful in niche PVP scenarios where you’re getting sniped and are caught off guard. This is a rare occurrence in my experience.
  • Canor (15.6%): They both deal and take reduced damage to and from allies, respectively, which just isn’t something that’s going to come up all that often.

That’s it for my Deepwoken race tier list guide. Note that stat increases of each race are almost negligible as yo??u’ll be able to grind the stats you wan??t easily with a few hours of play. With that in mind, you should choose your race solely based on their special abilities.
