Dante's Peak

Capcom's ultra-stylish and superbly silly hack 'n' slash title Devil May Cry 5 has smashed past six million sales The publisher proudly announced that the flashy seque?l hit the impressive milestone this month, wi?th the number tabulated from global sales on PlayStation, PC, and Xbox platforms.

Devil May Cry 5, which initially launched on PS4, PC, and Xbox One in 2019, was something of a grand comeback for the Gothic Disco series, pulling the franchise away from its closely-held and somewhat cult following and making a splash as a major, mainstream release. In much the same way that Monster Hunter World reminded video game fans at large what Monster World was, DmC5 reintroduced, (a??nd in some cases, introduced), Dante and his sexy pals to a new audience of players on a global basis.

In fact, some would argue that DmC5 was one of the key titles that kicked off Capcom's latter-day renaissance, which has seen the legendary developer go from strength to strength with smash releases such as Monster Hunter World, Monster Hunter Rise, Resident Evil: Village, the Resident Evil remakes, Capcom Arcade Stadium, and the upcoming Street Fighter 6. In the fall of 2020, Capcom would release DmC5 for then-new platforms PS5 and Xbox Series X, in the form of Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition.

Devil May Cry 5 is availab??le now on PlayStati??on, PC, and Xbox platforms.

Find the game in the pile

It's that time of year again. The Steam Su??mmer Sale 2022 is live right now, with some deep discounts on do??zens upon dozens of games.

From now until July 7 at 10 a.m. PT, developers a??nd publishers are putting their games on various levels o?f sales.

And of course, there is a side-game as well. One section brings up a message?? from time-traveler Clortha?x, who has "stolen the ten best games from the far future" and brought them back to sell on Steam.

It's essentially a scavenger hunt, it seems, with clues and hints for finding a game. It's a neat little si??de-venture to enga?ge with across the days of deals.

The Steam Summer Sale deals

Of cou??rse, there are the deals and discounts themselves. There is a massive amount of sales, too many to fit into one text block. So I've taken a cursory stroll through the sections?? and picked out a few notable ones that caught my eye:

You can find the Steam Summer Sale live here on the store's home page.

GOTTA LET IT OUT

Devil May Cry 5 sales have hit a historic five million, Capcom has announced publicly via Twitter.

It's been over three years since the action sequel arrived, and reminded people of what the Devil May Cry series was truly capable of once again. Here's what Capcom had to say to mark the occasion (though the publisher did not qualify the Devil May Cry 5 sales numbers with a?ny platform or SKU breakdown):

"Cumulative worldwide sales of 'DMC5' have exceeded 5 million uni??ts! Than??k you for your support."

Devil May Cry 5, using Capcom's own investor relations data, was already the best-selling Devil May Cry game of all time, towering over DMC4. Previously the entry was reported to have sold 4.8 million units, so it continues to climb lik??e an evergreen a?ction game should.

I have to say, it's well deserved, given how Devil May Cry 5 brought the series back to around the game genre-defining cachet it had back at the launch of Devil May Cry 3: which remains one of the best action games of all time. Devil May Cry 5 is something I'm going to be going back to throughout my lifetime, and I can still vividly recall the E3 presentation when Capcom announced it.

See for yourself

[Update: Valve has actually provided a centralized location for Steam Deck info for studios to potentially show off more stuff like this Devil May Cry 5 Steam Deck clip.]

Curious about how Devil May Cry 5 Steam Deck plays? Well, Capcom has off-s?creen gameplay for you as you wait for your pre-order to get? in.

Uploaded on the Devil May Cry YouTube channel, we have off-screen gameplay footage of the game running on the Steam Deck, flipping through various points in the game. Clocking in at just under a minute, the clip gets the job done, giving you an idea of what to expect in terms of play control and framerate. Out of all the underwhelming marketing we've seen for this thing so far, this is one of the more interesting videos, and it's barely 60 seconds. It reminds me of downloading 360p files of Devil May Cry 4 and watching them over and over until I found something interesting. It's something to do during the wait for the Steam Deck.

That wait might be a bit, too, even without further delays. Valve was originally looking to ship the first wave of Steam Deck devices by the end of the year, but it looks like that February 2022 ??is now the target. Valve cites the same "material shortages" as the rest of the industry, which makes sense, as the initial target was extremely optimistic given th??e situation even at the time.

Until then, you can studiously look over individual footage of off-screen Devil May Cry 5 Steam Deck tests and see if it's up to par.

Down, R, Up, L, Y, B, X, A

Capcom has released its latest financial earnings report and, in news that will come as no surprise to anybody, the long-time deve?loper/publisher's fortunes continue to ?soar. The new report records a fourth consecutive year delivering record-breaking sales figures for the company, thanks to quality new releases and continued steady sales of its back catalogue.

For the fiscal year ending March 31, 2021, overall net sales increased 16.8% on the previous year, raking in just over ¥95 million (o??r roughly $876 million USD). Meanwhile, operating income skyrocketed ??51.6% on the previous year, which translates to around ¥34.5 billion (or roughly $317 million). This figure represents the eighth consecutive year that Capcom's operating income has grown, with the company forecasting growth to ¥42 million by 2022.

Capcom's core "Digital Contents" division sees the lion's share of the sales. 2020 remake Resident Evil 3 and 2021 Nintendo Switch release Monster Hunter Rise were both smash hits for the publisher, while Monster Hunter World and its expansion, Iceborne) — Capcom's most successful release of all-time — continues to see sales over three years on from its initial release. Quietly adding to the coffers in the background are dynamic actioner Devil May Cry V, 2019 remake Resident Evil 2, and Capcom's beleaguered-but-steadfast Street Fighter V.

Last week saw the launch of Resident Evil Village, one of Capcom's most anticipated releases in some time. Switch-owning Monster Hunter fans can look forward to Monster Hunter Stories 2 this summer, and it remains an open secret that Street Fighter VI has long been in development. While 2020 brought Capcom misfortune in the form of a serious ransomware attack, it seems that the le??gendary studio has much to celebrate for the past 12 months, with the party set to continue into 2022 an??d gaming's newest generation.

Get set for more Smokin' Sexy Style

If you're waiting to see bad boy Vergil make his debut in Capcom's Devil May Cry 5, then the publisher has a few dates for your calendar. While the stylish, silver-haired antagonist will as part of PS5 and Xbox Series X release Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition on launch day, he will be a little late to the part??y on PS4 and Xbox One, ??ultimately arriving on December 15.

In addition to this news, Capcom has also confirmed that the Xbox Series S version of Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition will not feature ray-tracing effects. Regardless, Capcom is assuring all Xbox players that both the Series X and Series S editions of the game ??will run at "high frame rates up to 120FPS."

Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition is a revamped version of 2019's highly acclaimed hack 'n' slash sequel. Special Edition will feature upgraded visuals, all previously released DLC, and two new battle-hardened challenges - Legendary Dark Knight Mode and Turbo Mode - in order to provide the definitive e??xperience for the Triple S adventure.

He pulled the devil trigger on that Walmart lawn and garden sale

The Devil May Cry 5 modding scene has been vibrant ever since it was released, and these ?past few weeks have been no exception.

It all started with a series of tweets that eventually became a mod: the idea of Vergil's decadent endgame throne getting replaced by those scrape-prone plastic lawn and garden chairs. It's such a small tou?ch, but when it plays out (like in Franctastic's video below) it perfectly fits the otherwise dour mood that the scene otherwise?? exudes.

This is partially why so many folks are up in arms about the lack of a proper PC port for Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition. I want to see 4K60FPS mods for the "armies of enemies" mechanic. ??Maybe a 4K lawn chair? At the very least, previous platforms are getting Vergil as DLC.

So you can just imagine&nbs??p;the chair and get all of the Vergi??l benefits.

Devil May Cry 5

All heaven, no hell. That's one vague way to describe Devil May Cry 5. There are so many more possible descriptions, each one ratcheting up the peculiarity and ridiculousness in step with the level of detail given. But pulling all the way back tells us all we need to know: Devil May Cry 5 is a character action game the ??likes of which no one else is really making right now.

It's all so stupidly awesome. That's by design. Swinging motorcycles around Dante before thwacking a demon upside the head. Breaking Nero's prosthetic arm over and over after kicking too much ass. Su??mmoning V's Nightmare golem to stomp everything. It's easy to get lost in the minutiae of fighting -- just trying to make it all look as cool as possible -- and forget how cool it already is.

Capcom has gone to great lengths to make sure you feel every bit as cool as it looks. It's tough to play this game dully. Devil May Cry 5 awards a style rating called "Sick Skills." That's only second best. There's an?other named "Smokin' Sexy Style." You want your style to be smokin' and sexy. The trio of protagonists are already there aesthetically. Do their fighting justice.

There's a certain purity about the way Devil May Cry 5 refuses to hold anything back. It leans into all the tropes you'd hope it'd lean into. It's bigger, sillier, and more bombastic in all the right ways. It carries the character action banner proudly, and it's the current gold standard for the genre. Devil May Cry 5 is nothing short of divine, even if it unleashed a wh?ole lot of hell.

As soon as he was revealed I thought of Driver

One of the first things I noticed about Devil May Cry 5 was the "Adam Driver-ass" V, and I stand by that statement! This dude looks like he was wholly modeled after the actor a??nd even exhibits a lot of the same qualities as a few Driver performances, Kylo Ren in particular.

I wasn't alone, as many of our commenters pointed out, and now there's a mod to indulge us. Available on PC (of course), it's called "Robeless Kyle Ren Costume and Lightsaber," and quite simply outfits V with a Kylo Ren getup and his crossguard lightsaber. The emo nature of V really comes to life when he's reading poetry from a book adorning what is essentially a turtleneck that Driver would wear in a scene from Girls.

If you want to see the mod in action, YouTuber Rifza Gamer has footage ??you can watch below.

The recipe 'hasn't changed in 30 years'

Devil May Cry 5 released in March and has been incredibly well received. Rave reviews across the board and fans praising it as a return to form, it seems Capcom has figured out what made the series so special in the first place. That secret sauce, as it turns out, is something that hasn't changed in nearly 30 years. In a recent interview with The Guardian, DMC5 director Hidea??ki Itsuno stated, "What makes? action games fun hasn't changed in 30 years."

"You come up against a challenge, and maybe you don't beat it the first time, but you know what you did wrong," the veteran designer said. "You know what you're go??ing to do next time. And you better yourself, you overcome that challenge on your own terms, and by doing that you feel this immense sense of accomplishment. And I wanted to do that again. I wanted to show the world – hey, don't you think this is what makes action games fun?"

I completely agree with him. While not every title needs to be a hardcore, ball busting affair (Devil May Cry offers easy options for less skilled players), overcoming an immense challenge is what makes action titles memorable for a lot of people. Dark Souls wouldn't be as popular as it is if there wasn't a hurdle to cross and I still rave about the 2004 Ninja Gaiden reboot. Players love to topple a chal??lenge that appears insurmountable.

Not everything was always rosy for Itsuno, though. Thrust into the lead role of Devil May Cry 2 late into development, the man was put in charge of a sinking ship that nearly tainted his career. Many people see that as a low point in the series and the negative reception is what drove Itsuno to perfect Devil May Cry 3. Looking back, Itsuno admitted that, at the time, he was ready to quit Capcom if the game flopped. Thankfully, everything turned out fine and DMC3 would go on to ??define action titles for an entire generation.

None of these projects have been easy to pull off. While speaking about how recent technological trends have made certain aspects of development easier, Itsuno revealed that Capcom has tried to avoid crunch as much as possible. "I've always set up my projects to avoid it, and it's never completely worked," he admitted. "I really want to stress, though, that what we end up spending all of our efforts on, why we end up working more on games, is that last 10%. It's that extra effort to make sure it's going to be a?? quality game, something that we can be proud of."

With development on Devil May Cry 5 wrapped up, Itsuno and his team are ready for a break. "We've worked really hard, and we all need a little break," he sa??id. He certainly deserves to have one, too.

I'm your prom date

A story chronicling the roller coaster ride that has been the Devil May Cry series would make one hell of a book. Kicking off with a stellar first entry that was born out of the Resident Evil series, famed director/pr??oducer Hideki Kamiya knocked it out ??of the park.

The blame for the disastrous second entry, one that many fans disavow, was placed on Hideaki Itsuno (who was installed later in development, replacing a mystery initial director), but that incident was the fuel that fed the fire to create Devil May Cry 3: one of the gold standards of the action genre. From there Devil May Cry 4 faltered a bit but still kept the momentum rolling, then the series wandered into new territory: a westernization, compliments of Ninja Theory, with DmC: Devil May Cry.

While Capcom has basically ignored DmC completely as they've been singing the praises of Devil May Cry 5, the Ninja Theory effort struck a chord with many folks who had no prior interest in the series, and it went on to sell roughly two and a half million copies over the course of five years (not including the Definitive Edition). That's not bad at all, but given that Devil May Cry 5 shipped over two million units in a little over three weeks, you can say that Capcom is happy they shifted back to internal development (which is just as well, given how conflicted DmC was from a production standpoint).

In fact they actually state that Devil May Cry 5 has "successfully reinvigorated the brand," in their financial report detailing the fiscal year ending in March 2019, which is clearly going to lead to a lot more Devil May Cry related media in the future (a show is already in the works). While DmC had its moments, it's great to see the series back at the forefront without any provisos. DMC5 is pretty much universally beloved by all?: including Capcom itself.

V has (not) come to

I'll be blunt. Hearing that Capcom isn't planning any more DLC for Devil May Cry 5 stings a bit. Without spoiling anything, there are a few obvious crowd-pleasing directions the developers could take with further post-launch support. The game rules, don't get me wrong, but it could?? rule even harder.

Fans have taken Devil May Cry 5's early critical and commercial success as an indi??cator that more good things are surely on the way, but Capcom producer Matt Walker recently set the record straight about future add-ons. Asked on Twitter about potential "Ladies Night" DLC and the possibility of extra playable characters, Walker responded that development on the game is now "finished."

He specifically noted that the developers "don't plan on adding any more content to DMC5."

Continuing, Walker explained that he would "personally like to see the [Devil May Cry] ladies playable too" and expressed his hope that "at some point we can convince the people up top that it's worth doing." On the subject of game sales, "We in? R&D1 are proud of what we've ??accomplished with it."

All that said, this series is clearly no stranger to special editions. DLC or no DLC, it's not far-fetched to believe Capcom will eventually return to expand Devil May Cry 5 with a beefed-up release. Maybe by then, I'll have finally made it to the end of the Bloody Palace. Wishful thin??king at its finest.

On the bright side, I hope this means game director Hideaki Itsuno is well on his way to Dragon's Dogma 2. Given that he chose to prioritize Devil May Cry 5 over making that sequel, we have certain expectations, y'know? I'm jealous of the Dragon's Dogma first-timers who are only now discovering this (mostly) delightfully ambitio??us action-RPG on Nintendo Switch. ?They're masterworks, all.

Smokin Stealthy Style

Are you looking to spice up your Devil May Cry 5 playthroughs? Would a new announcer be enough to entice you for another run? What if I told you that David Hayter, famous for his role as Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid, could give you a "Dummy Thicc" rating instead of Dismal? You no ?longer need to question any of ??this, because some wonderful person has created a mod that will give you everything I've listed above.

Created by user "cheesburge" over on the Nexus Mods forums, this mod includes brand new lines? recorded by Hayter. While a few are memes from around the internet, others are just creative interpretations. Some? ranks, specifically D, contain multiple lines to give you even more Hayter in your life.

Maybe it's just the Metal Gear fan inside of me, but this is amazing. Hayter has a great voice and hearing him announce the goofy names for each of DMC5's rankings is a treat. I especially like the touch of him saying "Smokin Stealthy Style," which just makes me pine for another Metal Gear with him in the role.

The power orb was a mistake

While Lyle and I continue to scratch our heads on how we'll fix what you did in Earth 23A, here's what's been happening in video ga?mes on Ea?rth 92B:

  • Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order got a teaser!
  • Devil May Cry 5 lightens up on censorship in the US!
  • Nintendo will probably have a Direct this week and more!

Sadly, the power orb continues to cause havoc across the multiver?se thanks to you and your insatiable appetite for destruction. You just couldn't help yourself, could you? Was making Apple's new video game console a streaming service honestly a sma-

Wait, that happened here too? That's odd. Okay, fine, you're off the hook for that one. Also, shouts out to Earth 37D for categorizing Disintegration by The Cure as the greatest album of all time. If we all had priorities like this, the multiverse would be fine. Instead, we have jokers like Apple claiming 8k streaming will be viable in a country where ISPs make backroom deals to screw you over as hard and in the most expensive way possible.

Discharged question of the week: If you had the ability to change one thing within the video game industry, what wou??ld you change?

It ain't Monopoly

Those of you who haven't been directly injected with enough Devil May Cry in 2019 will be pleased to hear that there is currently a board game adaptation of the hip action series in th?e works, with a crowdfunding campaign set to start very soon.

Designed and developed by Steamforged Games - who are also responsible for tabletop versions of Resident Evil 2, Horizon: Zero Dawn and Dark Souls - Devil May Cry: The Bloody Palace will find players choosing their favourite hero and battle in the endless dungeon, with an aim to out-st?yle the opposition. Dante, Nero, Trish and V are currently expected to be the chosen participants, although more characters may be added if stretch goals ?are met.

Of course, one of the best aspects of board game adaptations is that they are usually accompanied by neat miniatures of all your favourite characters. The Bloody Palace is no different, although? at the moment only a basic prototype shot of the game is available. The Kickstarter campaign will launch this Sp?ring, although I've no doubt the required target will be met, given Steamforged Games' previous successes.

You can check out more information on Devil May Cry: The Bloody Palace right here.

Devil May Cry 5 spoilers

Alongside yesterday's addition of The Bloody Palace to Capcom's Metal As Fuck hack 'n' slash sequel, Devil May Cry 5, Update 1.07 also appears to remove the lens flare effect applied to mild scenes of nudity in the PS4 e??di??tion.

The scene in question concerns the bum cheeks of Trish, which are briefly visible as she is carried to safety by old man Dante. The western PS4 edition hid the offending full moon with a bit of J.J. Abrams?? lens flare, this effect isn't present in the Japanese PS4 release, nor any version on PC or Xbox One.

It seems that although Sony reinstated the fleeting glimpse of nudity in the American version, weirdly, the lens flare remains in the European edition post-patch. Sony has, of course, been pretty aggressive lately with its new regulations, designed to clamp down on sexually-suggestive imagery in PS4 games, but this flip-flop - in only one territory, mind - leaves them looking confused and non-committal to their own rules on w??hat is and isn't offensive.

Y'know, like all censorship committees have b??een since?? the dawn of time?

Devil May Cry 5 is available now on PS4, PC and Xbox One.

Test your might

Sliding back into Devil May Cry 5 after playing loads of Sekiro wasn't the best idea, but even if I came up short in the Bloody Palace, I don't regret trying. You have to start somewhere! The new score-driven survival gauntle??t mode is open for business on PC, PS4, and Xbox One with today's free update.

Beat up demons, look cool while brawling, and try not to g??et hit or dilly dally. It's wholesome fun.

There are 101 floors to clear in the Bloody Palace as either Nero, V, or Dante (but not Vergil!), and all three characters are playable right away, so you can pick your bestie without any fuss. I kind of forgot how to fight Goliath as V with any sort of style or grace, so maybe I'll stick with Nero next t??ime.

This mode is unadulterated Devil May Cry 5, so give it a ?shot. You'll earn special taunts if you manage to clear every floor. Graciously, you can suspend the Bloody Palace and resume playing la?ter.

Actually, it's pretty comprehensive

[Some people can just cruise through video games like nothing matters, lapping up all the knowledge and skill in various titles like so much potent potables. The rest of us need people like Fivefinger Delta to tell us how to tie our shoes and remind us to breathe every couple of seconds. In their first blog [!] they help the scrubs like me have a chance in games like Devil May Cry 5, where I'd normally just flounder and give up after a few hours. They're truly the hero Destructoid needs. - Wes]

So you've beaten Devil May Cry V on Human. Maybe you started on Devil Hunter. In a world of endless open-world map-clearers, your eyes have been opened to a shorter, tighter type of game that didn't last as long as you expect from a full-priced triple-AAA experience. But when the credits finished, you jumped back in. And when those credits finished, you jumped back in again. You've finished the game twice now and you still haven't scratched the surface, because what's on the screen isn't everything that there is to see. Your combat is improving, you're hitting S, SS, SSS, you're getting hit less and your Devil Breakers are breaking when you want them to break.

Below is a short guide listing each of the Devil Breakers (in alphabetical order) with a few tips that may ??help you better understand the tools at your disposal. It assumes that you haven't played previous entries in the series but, for the sake of spoilers, have beaten the game. I will however, try to keep such spoilers as vague as possible.

Other?? than Gerber?a, I will not be commenting on the pre-order bonus arms as I do not have them.

Buster Arm

The Buster Arm is a recreation of Nero's Buster attack from Devil May Cry 4. When O/B?? is pressed Nero will perform a damage-dealing animation on enemies. These animations are usually unique to individual enemy types and may be performed on the ground or in the air. It can even be used on bosses. It is important to note that despite being locked into these animations, the attack may be interrupte??d causing your arm to break and for you to take damage.

The charged or held O/B attack is a stronger version, however, as you lose your arm anyway, w??hen performing the move, Nero will gain hyper armour. Hyper armour me??????????????????????????ans that your attack will not be interrupted, but you will still take damage when being hit.

Now I know what you're thinking. You've reached that stage in the game and you're wondering why the hell would you keep? using this Devil Breaker. Well, Nico is such a skilled gunsmith that even demonic powers cannot match the damage output of Buster. While you may have access to the original Buster attack, both the Buster Arm and charged Buster A?rm attacks will vastly out-damage it.

Gerbera

Gerbera is an excellent Devil Breaker for both offensive and defensive play. For those who are still getting used to having to jump or use lock-on to dodge, Gerbera provides you with a more natural dodge. And for all those Souls-veterans -- it's on the O/B button!

Any directional input plus O/B will cause Nero to dodge. This dodge does provi?de a few frames of invincibility. However it can be used offensively too. When facing a nearby enemy Nero will take said enemy with him, separating that enemy from the crowd and can be used to initiate a combo without worrying about being hit by surrounding enemies. This move even works when dodging backwards and Nero will pull said enemy with hi??s Wire Snatch.

When holding O/B, Nero will charge his arm for one of two moves. On the ground, Nero will be locked into position and emit a high-beam laser. This laser can be aimed and moved for its duration, ho?wever due to being locked into the animation, Nero is susceptible to taking damage and thus it should be used strategically. Using this move will break Gerbera.

Second, when holding O/B and releasing the charge in the air, Gerbera will fire multiple, ric??ocheting lasers. This is a much safer move to use and is perfect for starting a pop-up rave in a small rooms. Once again, using this move will break Gerbera.

Last is pressing O/B without any directional input (neutral O/B). Neutral O/B will cause enemies? to be knocked back, however, this move does negligible da??mage. Where it truly shines though is in its ability to deflect projectiles, or rather, reflect projectiles. Enemies, including bosses, can take large amounts of damage from their own projectiles.

If you, on the back of Monster Hunter World and Resident Evil 2, had newfound faith in Capcom and broke the No Pre-Orders Rule, you might be using the Gerbera GP-01. The GP-01's neutral O/B is a vertical? dash, either from ground to air or air to ground. While the GP-01 might look super stylish, it doesn't feel as stylish as reflecting a fireball straight back at Goliath.

Edit: I have recently discovered that you can reflect projectiles while dodging in any direction, therefore if your prefer Gerbera GP-01's neutral O/B vertical dodge to the palm?? strike, then you can use that without sacrificing the ability to parry projectiles.

Helter Skelter

Helter Skelter is a very straightforward Devil Breaker with an obvious use -- it's great for breaking shields or guards. While a single press of O/B will cause you to drill into the targeted enemy, repeatedly tapping O/B will continue the attack and increase your damage output. This attack can be augmented three times the longer you keep tapping O/B?? and is represented visually by your arm opening up and expanding at each level. As it is a focused attack, you need to be aware of surrounding enemies that may interrupt you while trying to break the targeted enemy's guard.

The Helter Skelter's charged O/B attack is a horizontal drill attack t?hat will also displace yourself and the enemy. Furthermore the attack will immediat??ely break the enemy's guard while separating yourself and the enemy from the pack at the cost of breaking the Helter Skelter. There is hyper armour during the animation of both the wind-up and the attack.

Overture

Overture is an early-game workhorse that is great for new players but does contain depth. Similar to Gerber's neutral O/B, Overture's O/B will cause enemies to be knocked back while also taking damage from the lightning. This move is great for players who may find themselves surrounded and need to create space. Furtherm??ore, the knockback can be used in various instances for initiating combos. For example when an enemy has been hiked into the air, O/B will be directed upwards for a second hike. When Nero is above an enemy, O/B will be directed downwards and will knock an enemy into the ground, causing it to bounce back into the air.

Again, similar to Gerbera's neut?ral O/B, when timed right, Overture's O/B can?? be used to block enemy attacks, causing them to be thrown back. While risky, it can be very satisfying to pull off against a charging boss.

Overture's charged O/B will embed a ticking bom??b into the ground or, if facing an enemy, into the enemy. While the bomb will detonate after a certain amount of time, the bomb can be detonated by attacking the enemy, for example by firing?? a single shot at the targeted enemy. The bomb will also send surrounding enemies flying to give the player some recovery time.

While the charged O/B will break Overture, if you stack them as your on?ly Devil Breakers, multiple bombs can be placed into a single enemy at the same time causing massive damage. This is particularly devastating against bosses.

Punch Line

Punch Line is a multifaceted Devil Breaker with a lot going for it in both the damage and style departments. Punch Li??ne's O/B will send out a rocket-propelled arm that will knock back and then hit an enemy multiple times before returning to your side. It is excellent for stunlocking an enemy. If you anticipate that you're about to take damage and don't want Punch Line to break, you can tap O/B to have the Devil Breaker return to you or press L1/LB to manually break your Devil Breaker causing it to explode wherever it is at that moment.

However, if you have launched Punch Line and instead hold O/B rather than tap, Punch Line will allow you to rocket surf, which is a callback to Dante in DMC 3. Once Nero is riding Punch Line, there are a variety of moves available to the player. Pressing Squre/X on a??n enemy will damage the enemy; however, the real utility of this input is when combined with a direction Nero will immediately change direction rather than relying on the large turning circle of the rocket. You can do a complete on-the-spot 180 if you have to.

While rocket surfing, pressing Triangle/Y on an enemy will damage the enemy and continue in the direction you are facing. Holding Triangle/Y wh?en approaching an enemy will launch that enemy and send you in the opposite direction. This also works against walls and "collidable" objects, which is great for moving around an arena.

Pressing O/B while surfing Punch Line will cause Nero to jump, launching enemies in the air with him. While jumping, Nero may again use the Square/X input to change? direction or do a number of attacks, or rather, tricks.

  • While jumping, Left and Triangle/Y will cause Nero to spin counter-clockwise, damaging enemies.
  • While jumping, Right and Triangle/Y will cause Nero to spin clockwise, damaging enemies.
  • While jumping, Up and Triangle/Y will cause Nero to do a front flip, damaging enemies. If you land the front flip, Nero will continue riding Punch Line. If you fail to land the front flip, Punch Line will shoot forward, exploding on impact and breaking Punch Line while Nero bails.

When riding Punch Li?ne the player may recall and dismount Punch Line by pressing X/A o??r may manually break Punch Line, shooting it forward, exploding on impact with L1/LB. If the player is hit at any point while riding Punch Line, Punch Line will break.

Finally, Punch Line's charged O/B is a devastating attack that can be done on the ground for an uppercut or in the air which will shoot Punch Line into t??he ground below Nero before explodi?ng. Keep in mind that Punch Line's charged O/B has a long charge animation and does not have hyper armour and when interrupted will cause Punch Line to break. It is worth it though and uppercutting a giant boss is a sight worth seeing.

Ragtime

Ragtime is a? fairly intuitive Devil Breaker. Pressing O/B will place an orb that slows time for?? any enemies caught in the sphere. Nero meanwhile has free movement within the sphere and can deal damage rather safely. However it is very easy to knock an enemy out of these rather small orbs during a combo. Furthermore, if an enemy has already started an attack animation, it is possible to walk into the attack and take damage causing Ragtime to break.

Ragtime's charged O/B will cause the entire arena and everything except Nero to be slowed. If you've played Bayonetta you?? will be well-acquainted with her Witch Time and you know this is the perfect time to pull off a long combo and try to deal as much damage as possible. Ragtime will break upon a charged use and both regular O/B and charged O/B do not affect some bosses.

Rawhide

Rawhide is a good Devil Breaker for creat?ing space and mixing up your attacks. Unique to Rawhide is that it increases the range of Nero's Wire Snatch (R1/RB and O/B). If you aren't a player who is ready to fully explore Nero's Devil Breakers yet or tend to get hit a lot while you practice, having Rawhide equipp?ed simply for Wire Snatch is an excellent choice.

Pressing O/B will initiate a combo and if pr?essed continuously will result in three hits before knocking the enemy back. Furthermore, the whip-like anima??tion can hit surrounding enemies while you focus on a targeted enemy. If you space your O/B inputs out with correct timing, Nero will perform more hits in the Rawhide combo than the standard three.

Rawhide's charged O/B will lasso t??he targeted enemy, swinging them around, before knocking the enemy into the ground, causing them to bounce. This is a great way to initiate a combo and Nero has invincibility-frames during the animation before it breaks. As with the regular Rawhide attack, the whip-like animation can hit surrounding enemies.

Tomboy

Finally, we have the Tomboy, the best or worst Devil Breaker depending on who you ask. Pressing O/B will initiate the Tomboy's altered state which affects both your sword, Red Queen, and your gun, Blue Rose. Pressing O/B again will take you out ??of Tomboy's altered state.

While Tomboy is act??ive, you cannot use lock-on. Instead the R1/RB button is used to modify your moveset, which I will go into later.

When Tomboy is active, pressing Triangle/Y will cause Nero to attack in a potential double-digit combo with each attack getting stronger for every hit. If you land all your hits, the last hi?t of the combo will knock the enemy into the ground, causing them to bounce.

When Nero is in the air, pressing Triangle/Y will cause Nero to slam to the ground but if you press Triangle/Y just as your first attack hits (a bit?? like Exceed), Nero will delay the slam for a second attack.

For the R1/RB mo??difiers, pressing R1/RB?? and Triangle/Y will cause Nero to perform a stinger-like move that will hike the enemy into the air.

When Nero is in the air, pressing R1/RB and Triangle/Y will cause Nero to perform multip??le front flips while swinging his sword ending with the enemy being k??nocked into the ground, causing them to bounce.

When Tomboy is active, your gun is also modified. Pressing Square/X will pull out a reticle that you can aim to shoot at enemies with a further press of Square/X. However if you hold Square/X, you will charge up a shot that can deal out large amounts of damage and? penetrate mu??ltiple enemies.

Being hit at any point while Tomboy is active ?will cause t??he Devil Breaker to break.

Tomboy's charged O/B is a longer and more powerful version of the Tomboy's basic power. However, unlike the basic O/B, the c??harged O/B's ??altered state cannot be toggled on or off and will break when you are either hit or it runs out.

Thank you for reading this - it's my ??first po?st. If I've made any mistakes or you have any other tips to add, please let me know and I hope you have learned something along the way.

'Not in a million [sales]'

Capcom has a lot to be happy about as they just announced at GDC (by way of the cute "one quick thing" finale) that Devil May Cry 5 had sold over two million copies, presumably across all three available platforms. Note: Capcom uses the term "shipp??ed" in ??a more formal announcement.

Things really have come full circle for director Hideaki Itsuno. After being saddled with the moniker of "director" when the production of the disastrous Devil May Cry 2 was nearly at a close, he came out swinging with Devil May Cry 3, then 4, and now 5, all of which can be considered successes. Amazingly, this news also comes back to Ninja Theory's stance that "Dante wasn't cool anymore" in 2010 when trying to hype up DmC. Well, with very little alterations to his character design, he's still cool enough to shift over two million copies: a stark contrast to Capcom's revised "1.2m shipped" target for DmC after its launch in 2013.

What you're seeing above is an actual image from a Ninja Theory presentation for DmC, in which they tried to convince us that the old Dante was bad and New Dante was good. It's a huge reason why, despite the fact that DmC: Definitive Edition is actually a decent action romp, that people were against Ninja Theory's direction for the series. "If Dante, dressed as he was [in the original series], walked into any bar outside of Tokyo, he’d get laughed out" is probably the most famous quote. DmC would go on to push less than half of Devil May Cry 4's sales at launch in Japan.

It's safe to say that Capcom is happy it brought Itsuno back into the fray and that there will probably be a follow-up in the original continuity. Given how good DMC5 is, it deserves one.

Pin'em to the wall!

Hideaki Itsuno promised that Devil May Cry 5, the just-released fifth game in the main Devil May Cry series, would "exceed all expectations." I think many would agree that i??t didn'??t just exceed all expectations, it damn well Max-Acted straight to the top before doing a level-three High Roller on everyone waiting to take the wheel again for Dante, Nero, and even V.

But after beating the game on Devil Hunter, I've come to appreciate the overarching story. Maybe not the immediate story of DMC5, of the good guys versus the bad guy, but of the arc that has always driven Dante since the beginning of the series' chronology. Also, if it isn't already obvious, everything past this point will be about spoilers, so that?? the comments can also talk abo??ut spoilers.

Ever since Vergil's introduction in DMC3, which was not only cool by itself but also re-contextualized the first DMC, we see a different side of Dante. He decides to protect humanity despite it putting him at odds with the last family he has in the world, his brother Vergil. Dante is still decidedly Dante in DMC5, but the moment we have an idea that the end of the road in DMC5 involves Vergil, Dante gets serious ever ??so slightly. Meanwhile, for Nero, we finally get closure on the openly known secret that Vergil is Nero's father, and we see Nero react to the fact that his father is a total asshole who tore off his arm.

There's also all the new weapons and attacks. I completely overlooked the Double Kalina Ann weapon and completely fell in love with its unique Gunslinger move, the Cascade, which basically connects two Kalina Anns together to fire off a massive laser beam. Even though Bal?rog is publicly revealed, I can't believe some of its level-four Swordmaster moves. Real Im?pact is a given, but Pyromania feels like Kick 13 on steroids. Not to mention the revelation of Devil Sword Dante allowing Dante's sword combat to function like Nero alongside his very own summon swords. It was almost poetic seeing the two brothers go in different directions, Vergil casting aside his humanity for power and Dante embracing his demonic heritage for his own power.

I mean, these past few paragraphs are just me gushing, especially about how I think the story is low-key really enjoyable. I also love how the revelation that V is the manifestation of Vergil's humanity means that Vergil has al??ways been a huge dork for poetry.

So what have you been liking about Devil May Cry 5?

Have you been S ranking this bad boy lately? And really, what early week spoiler is more worth talking about then the reintroduction of Vergil, the coolest guy in the series this side of Dante's right side. Let's talk openly about the game, from the first few moments with Nero right down to the last shot we get of the Sons of Sparda as ?we possibly wave goodbye to their story.

Unless of course they break out of the Underworld again, and Devil May Cry 6 se?es an adult Nero struggle to keep an elderly Dante and Vergil pinned down in the re?tirement home he put them in.

No Foolin'

Everyone currently enjoying Devil May Cry 5 is probably up their armpits in demons, shaggy haircuts and tobacco products that we don't endorse, but it seems that already Capcom has more in store for the community, with the announcement of a free update comin?g next month.

Landing on April 1, DMC 5 wil??l open the doors of "The Bloody Palace" which, as you've probably guessed already, is the obligatory colosseum mode. Players will be able to take Dante, Nero, or V into a multi-floor arena where they will battle floor after floor of enemies against a strict time-limit.

Other than that, very little is known about this first add-on to the most metal game of 2019 so far. The Bloody Palace is a staple of the DMC series, so franchise fans should know what to expect from the demonic dominion. Devil May Cry 5 is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

'Visions of V,' isn't that vain

It seems as if Devil May Cry is taking off again as the latest entry is a resounding success critically and commercially, if the Steam charts are anything to go by. The series i?s officially back, and naturally Capcom is kee??n to capitalize on that with various cross-media projects.

One of those concepts in addition to the soundtrack and the prequel novel is a new manga series coming in April centered around V, the mysterious newcomer. For those of you who haven't played Devil May Cry 5 yet, V doesn't actually battle by way of direct combat: instead he summons three familiars to do his biddi??ng for him.

The manga itself will serve as yet another prequel and is due to be released on April 27, 2019 in Japan on LINE Manga: a service that requires a VP??N to use outside of the region (thanks for the tip, Siliconera).

Back to demonic roots

I'll never forget a conversation one of our readers had with someone who was down on Devil May Cry 5 after the reveal. Their response to another community member who felt burned by DmC: "Mate, there's a giant monster eating ca??rs with his chest in the trailer, the game is going to be fine??."

How right they were.

Devil May Cry 5 review

Devil May Cry 5 (PC, PS4, Xbox One [reviewed on an Xbox One X])
Developer: Capcom
Publisher: Capcom
Released: March 8, 2019
MSRP: $59.99

Devil May Cry 3 is still the gold standard for action games ??and ??I’ll take a moment to tell you why.

Coming off the ill-fated Devil May Cry 2 and saddled with directorial duties after the original seat was jettisoned, Hideaki Itsuno had something to prove. He went all-out for the third entry, packing in so many different concepts that it was almost overwhelming yet ultimately satisfying once you figured them all out. The pacing was succinct, the prequel conceit allowed the team to play around with previously conceived notions of the series, and at launch, it was one of the most challenging action games ever released (it was later revealed that originally in the West, the default difficulty setting of "normal" was actually Japan's "hard"). It was the perfect storm for an action entry that in my mind, has only been approached by the Bayonetta series.

DMC3 was seemingly the apex of action and Itsuno couldn't top it with his next effort. Although Devil May Cry 4 was on point mechanically, knocking it out of the park with two different characters, it suffered from an uneven campaign with tons of backtracking. Devil May Cry 5 feels like a genuine response to those complaints alongside a sprinkl??ing of the secret sauce that made the third entry so great, topped with a hearty helping of original work. Even the menu sounds at the very start (like the "boom...Devil May Cry" voiceover) help set the tone.

A tone, mind, that's familiar, but welcome: a demonic force is terrorizing the world and a group of demon hunters needs to stop it. It's straightforward and basically serves as a device to thrust the entire gang (Dante, Nero, Trish, Lady, plus newcomers Nico and V) into the spotlight to take down a big bad. With trademark comedic elements and absurd style baked-in it feels authentic, like you're along for the ride. Devil May Cry 5 is just as over-the-top as the series has always been without taking itself too seriously: it's the most obvious virtue that's been put by the wayside in the past. New players shouldn't feel lost, either. Not only are the four preceding core stories relatively easy to explain, but there's also a text-crawl "history of the series" movie to watch from the main menu. Let me be clear though: if you're expecting anything mind-blowing or genre-defining, you might not need to get on this train. This is an old school-minded Bayonetta-e?sque action romp that doesn't pretend to be anything more.

Your chief tritagonist is Nero from Devil May Cry 4 with some newly minted gimmicks. In lieu of his now-missing arm he can utilize "Devil Breakers," clever transitory junker items that are so fragile, they'll break on a moment's notice. They're so cheaply made that they'll disintegrate if you use their ultimate power, use them to break away from an enemy combo or grab, or get hit once while wielding their power (Punch Line, a rocket fist that kind of flies around and does its ??own thing, is my favorite). To make up for the fact that you'll be arm-free after they've all been ground into dust, Nero also sports a pulley system for grabbing smaller enemies or propelling himself closer to big ones.

All of these abilities do a better job of keeping players in the fight than his Devil May Cry 4 kit. Nero really came into his own after I slammed an enemy into a wall then quickly grappled them back and drilled them into the ground. Where I started to click with Nero is when I realized that his Devil Breakers ?are completely expendable. There's no point in holding onto them once you've mastered dodging: just keep the sparks flying. Nero's enhanced focus feels more justified this time around.

Devil May Cry 5 review

Then there's the Adam Driver-ass V. He might look like a total dullard, but his wisecracking talking bird rules and so does his whole combat vibe. His whole thing is that his minions (a ranged bird, a melee panther, and a giant behemoth governed by his super meter) beat up enemies for him then he finishes them off with his magical cane. I dig it! You can control your creatures while doing other actions wi??th V, like initiating a more pronounced shadow dodge or reading poetry (seriously) to recharge his super (Devil Trigger) gauge.

That same gauge can power-up minions in an "EX" fashion if a certain strategy is favorable, which allows you to manually adapt as you survey the battle??ground as a commander of sorts. His summons have combos and multi-directional abilities, so you aren't just spa?mming them or letting them fight. There's nothing like surfing a dark nimbus cloud to get around while you're independently operating your minion bird to shoot projectiles.

As for Dante, all four of his styles (the speed-oriented Trickster, melee-centric Swordsman, ranged Gunslinger, and defense-minded Royal Guard) return and are hot-swappable, but this time with new weapons in tow. Cavaliere, the motorbike found in nearly all of the trailers, is actually a set of twin chainsaw blades: combined with the Swordsman style, he can ride it into the fray and grind up enemies. Another, a cowboy-themed power which I won't spoil here, is one of the most unique in the Devil May Cry universe. From a series that once conceptu?alized Pandor?a's Box as a briefcase full of endless weapons, the weaponry is right on the money.

Devil May Cry 5 review

Dante's styles really are the focus though because once again the swap technique works flawlessly. One moment you might be twirling?? around shotguns to keep away a mob, then ??swap to swordsman to isolate a big threat, then in half a second throttle to Royal Guard to perfectly parry an attack, throw back the force of the blow, then use Trickster to dart away and flow back into combat with a teleport.

V and Dante (which have their own skill trees) were game-changers for me in the sense that they took Devil May Cry 5 to the next level, marrying new and old-school trains of thought respectively. All of this is present while trying to master Devil May Cry's combo system (which goes all the way up to SSS-Stylish, unlocking more intense music as you go), a kind of minigame on top of mere survival. This is a series that boasts a taunt button simply for boosting your score: not something you see often. The stylish focus is partly why Devil May Cry is still relevant.

Enemy variety quickly gets spicy. At first you'll do battle with some nasty bugs, then duel with grim reapers with thorny crowns then hooded dual-cleaver berserkers. Bosses are memorable and formidable, and several are seared in my memory with the best of them. Devil May Cry 5's environments are equally impressive and the RE Engine serves the series well. In some cases floors can fall out, leading to new zones, and there's some re?ally expansive areas where you can see battles going on in the background. It's the kind of game that makes a commanding use of its photo mode.

Devil May Cry 5 review

Backtracking from DMC4 is eschewed in favor of different perspectives for several levels, which are thankfully optional for completion (read: stages where you can choose a charact??er only need to be beaten once, which is rad). Load times are relatively short and pacing is on point from minute one. There isn't a lot of boring exposition and pretty much everyone gets their ass kicked by the main villain right away (who doesn't even bother to get off his throne), without an overwhelming sense of "having to power up" for ages to take him on again; more like a general drive and purpose propelling the narrative.

My complaints are few and far between, and one of them is complicated. There's a very bri??ef (like, several minutes if you know what you're doing) "boss rush" type level with three encounters. At first I was flabbergasted at its customary inclusion, but after figuring it out I made short work of it and accepted how it slots into the big picture. Then there's the Red Orbs (which you use to buy everything, from items to abilities to revives, on top of the tr??aditional "extra life" Gold Orbs). Remember when it was announced that Capcom was monetizing the game's currency? This is that discussion.

In short, you can buy Red Orbs in bulk, even at the time of death to revive. It's weird, in an "Xbox One launch" type of way back when it was considered new and didn't even fly then. Now ?if you hate the mere thought of them even being included, you can skip out, I won't be offended. But for the rest of you who are wondering if they impact natural advancement, I'd say "no." Not once did I feel like I wasn't earning enough orbs to buy what I wanted and progression felt roughly on par with the rest of the series. If you want absolutely every ab??ility (including some of the endgame ones) you'll need to go through the campaign at least twice across two different difficulty settings: that hasn't changed.

Devil May Cry 5 review

After the campaign is done you get to keep all your skills across all three characters, plus one extra endgame power that completely changes the way one of them plays. I started working my way through Son of Sparda (hard) as soon as the curtains fell without any sort of fatigue (those optional char??acter levels are suited for replays). There's also plenty of secrets to locate (including inventive ones with tricks like blowing up walls with V's Devil Trigger minion) and extra difficulties. Dual-audio is being patched in at launch and the classic Bloody Palace mode (challenge rooms) arrives next month. It feels complete.

I'm going to be playing Devil May Cry 5 weeks from now in the short term and years from now long te??rm. This is the sort of fine-tuned wacky action game the ?genre deserves.

Are you worthy of legend?

Devil May Cry 5 is good and Devil May Cry 5 is tough. This combination is about the best possible outcome for a Devil May Cry game. It's so wonderfully excellent that we awarded it a perfect 10 score.

However, anyone motivated enough to chase down all the achievements or trophies is in for one hell of a monumental task. Ahead of tomorrow's Devil May Cry 5 launch, we've gotten a peek a??t the trophy list. They won't come?? easy.

The obvious biggie is the "Worthy of Legend" trophy that requires beating every mission with an S rank on all difficulties except for Heaven and Hell mode. That means playing the game five different times, and bei??ng proficient enough to earn each mission's highest ranking. It's not easy being this stylish -- especially when you consider that Hell and Hell mode cranks up each enemy's health and leaves the player to di?e with a single hit.

Who's up for a challeng??e? Hell, who's physically capable of getting this platinum, nevermind the ridiculous m?ental dedication it'll require? The good news is that compared to "Worthy of Legend," everything else is a cakewalk.

Here are all of Devil May Cry 5's trophies:

  • Devil May Cry (Platinum) --Unlock all trophies.
  • Let's Rock! (Bronze) -- Complete the game on Human mode.
  • Showtime! (Bronze) -- Complete the game on Devil Hunter mode.
  • Doing Daddy Proud (Bronze) -- Complete the game on Son of Sparda mode.
  • Dance with the Devil (Silver) -- Complete the game on Dante Must Die mode.
  • Stairway to Heaven (Silver) -- Complete the game on Heaven or Hell mode.
  • Highway to Hell (Gold) -- Complete the game on Hell and Hell mode.
  • Fall from Grace (Bronze) -- Clear the Prologue Mission.
  • Protect the People (Bronze) -- Defeat all enemies in Mission 01.
  • Where the Red Orbs Grow (Bronze) -- Collected Red Orbs from an unexpected spot in Mission 02.
  • Reunion (Bronze) -- Clear Mission 03.
  • Backroad (Bronze) -- Destroy a certain wall in Mission 04.
  • Break a Leg (Bronze) -- Fend off a menace from above in Mission 05.
  • End of the Line (Bronze) -- Clear Mission 06.
  • Share the Pain (Bronze) -- Clear Mission 07 with both Nero and V.
  • Light in the Darkness (Bronze) -- Clear Mission 08.
  • Eagle-Eyed (Bronze) -- Destroy a certain wall in Mission 09.
  • This Ain’t Over (Bronze) -- Clear Mission 10.
  • Don’t Mess with the Best (Bronze) -- Use proper timing to get a leg up in a close-quarters battle against the boss in Mission 11.
  • The Qliphoth (Bronze) -- Clear Mission 12.
  • Each In His Own Way (Bronze) -- Clear Mission 13 with Nero, V, and Dante.
  • Gotta Hurry (Bronze) -- Clear Mission 14.
  • Slick Moves (Bronze) -- Proceed with caution and avoid unneeded damage in Mission 15.
  • Obedience Training (Bronze) -- Go on the offensive without relying on brute force in the Mission 16 boss battle.
  • Back to Life (Bronze) -- Clear Mission 17.
  • Man on a Mission (Bronze) 00 Clear Mission 18.
  • Battle for the Ages (Bronze) -- Clear Missions 19 and 20 without using continues (any difficulty except Heaven or Hell).

'I'm back in this bitch'

Devil May Cry has always been known for its absurd style and the latest entry is right? on the money.

If you're okay with mostly out of context spoilers, the below video from Capcom showcases the motion capture work done for Devil May Cry 5, which includes live act?ion fight scenes and hilarious re-creations of vehicles (N??ico reaching to grab the cigarette out of the air at 0:45 is amazing).

Keep in mind this teaser is basically an ad for the Deluxe Edition of the game, which allows players to "swap in-game cinematics with pre-viz live action cutscenes." Devil May Cry 5 will arrive on March 8 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

The time has come and so have I

Devil May Cry 5 releases on March 8, just over ten years since the release of Devil May Cry 4. Since then, we've seen many other great character-based action games, like Bayonetta, Wonderful 101, NieR: Automata, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and countless. As someone who wasn't into the genre from the beginning - only since playing Bayonetta 2 and listening to the now defunc??t Super Best Friends podcast - I'm looking forward to joining ??in crazy uncle Dante's wild ride at the same time as everyone else, riding rockets, punching demons, and stinger-ing my way all over the place.

Most of us who are interested in DmC 5 are preparing to get their style on, thanks to Devil May Cry's unique brand of style'in and profile'in combos. These feature some of the greatest weapons ever conceived like Cerberus; a three-part set of nunchaku, to a whole goddamn motorcycle that turns into dual chainsaws. Never forget we killed demons with an electric guitar back in Devil May Cry 3!

Many of us are probably curious as to where the story of Dante and Nero is headed in the fifth game. As crazy and convoluted as the narrative is, there's still a lot that has us chomping at the bit. While some of the newest trailers feature some spoilers, everyone should be on the same page that Nero's old Devil Bringer arm has been cut off before the events of Devil May Cry 5. Now sporting a prosthetic arm (courtesy of ingenious technician Nico) and with more demon shenanigans afoot, he'll surely come across the person responsible for lopping his hand off. Also, hopefully Dante gets paid for this new job because apparently his water and electricity have been shut off and I think hi??s toilet hasn't been flushed in days.

Some people are nervous about the balance issues that may be present with purchasable red orbs, but most of those worries seem to have faded away over time. After all, you can wear a cowboy hat and scarf while dropping massive meteorites on your?? enemies, if you're good enough anyways.

What are you most excited about for the next heavyweight ?title from Capcom's trail of recent successes? Is it trying out Dante, Nero, and newcomer V's movesets? Testing the limits of your skill in the forthcoming Bloody Palace? Or seeing where the story goes for uncle Dante and Nero? And just what is the deal with V anyways? Le?ave a comment below and let's all patiently await for the moment we finally get to pull the devil trigger.

Uncle Dante's had a hell of a life

It's been quite some time since the last Devil May Cry game came out. Even if you consider Ninja Theory's DmC as a proper sequel, almost an entire console g??eneration has ?gone by since players were able to control Dante. It only makes sense that some of us may have forgotten his past exploits, so Capcom has created a quick recap video to refresh our memories.

I wouldn't call this the most comprehensive recap around, but it does cover the crucial plot points you'll need to understand what Devil May Cry 5 is. You'll see Dante and Vergil's heritage, get a look at Dante starting his own business in the original game, and even the f??ateful encounter that Nero had with everyone's favorite uncle. It's good ??enough, I suppose.

It's the gateway to Dante in Smash

We still have no idea how Devil May Cry 5 is going to turn out, but with current DMC boss Hideaki Itsuno at the helm and some great demo gameplay so far, things look positive. When it does arrive on March 8 it'll be welcomed by the PC, PS4? and Xbox One crowd, but naturally, not on Switch.

Itsuno and producer Matt Walker want to change that. Speaking to Express UK, the duo stated, "We haven't announced anything for Switch, right...We personally would love to play a Devil May Cry game on Switch." Walker adds, "I'm one of those guys? that always, I want to play everything on Switch. I'm always asking for ports."

Itsuno has already explained that he wants the character on Switch so that Dante can justify his spot in the Super Smash Bros. roster, so this lines up with their previous sentiment. Given how easily I can see a Devil May Cry HD Collection working on Switch and Dante in a theoretical season two Fighter Pass for Smash Ultimate, that could very well happen.

I'll take it, it sounds packed as-is

Oh hey, Devil May Cry 5 is back after an 11-year hiatus between numbered entries, and I can't' wait to rip into it.

But after all is said and done, it seems like Capcom is content with letting the typical "extra characters/difficulty levels/modes" concept carry on the spirit of the game, as they aren't planning any DLC at this time. Yep, once the free Bloody Palace (read: challenge rooms) update arrives, that's it for Devil May Cry 5, producer Matt Walker confirms that there?? are no current plans for other add-ons.

Given that I'm still playing Devil May Cry games (especially 3) decades down the line as-is and 5 is a??llegedly the biggest entr?y yet, I think that's acceptable.

PULL MY DEVIL TRIGGER

Capcom is once again focusing in on the musical aspect of the Devil May Cry seri?es for its latest entry. Every main character has t??heir own theme, and of course there's going to be a lot of music to kick some ass to. The best part? It apparently changes based on how well you're doing in-game. Even if I'm not down with every song, that mechanic is going to rock.

In addition to all of the other preview videos doled out so far you can also listen to the below tidbit, which showcase??s the Hyde collaboration that Capcom is so fond of. In case you're utterly confused and wondering why a 19th-century novella is singing action genre?? songs, Hyde is actually a Japanese singer/songwriter who has a huge presence worldwide.

He's worked on countless anime and game projects (including Devil May Cry 4!) both solo and as part of his band, L'Arc-en-Ciel (which you may have heard of). Maybe you dig it, maybe you don't? Either way Devil May Cry 5 is nearly ??here with a March 8 launch date for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
