Disney Lorcana's sixth major set is called Azurite Sea. It brings characters from Big Hero Six and just about everybody from Rescue Rangers to the TCG in a fresh new settin??g: The Azurite Sea. Characters take to the seafaring setting wit?h brilliant abilities to build a new deck around.

The Disney Lorcana Azurite Sea set was revealed during September 2024's Lorecast livestream. It's one that's been in the works since the game's creation and brings some very exciting cards to the game. As you'd expect, the set can be used to build upon decks from every previous set, but you could also build a brand new one from cards you pick up specifically from Azurite Sea and ?still potentially beat your opponents without too many issues.

Disney Lorcana Azurite Sea set release date

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FbXbUIeZsI

The release date for the Disney Lorcana Azurite Sea set is November 15, 2024 in hobby store??s, and November 25, 2024 for all other major retailers. This means you can pay a whole ten days early if you head to your local game store to take part in a launch or pre-release event.

Ravensburger has explained that it's growing the Disney Lorcana network with retailers worldwide. While there's always going to be a huge focus on events at Disney Resorts, local game stores are a huge part of why this game has succeeded. The Shimmering Skies Gateway Box didn't hurt either. That's why the creator wants to double down on th??e local and entry-level element, opening the game up for even more newcomers.

The story of the Disney Lorcana Azurite Sea set sees the Illumineers head out into dangerous waters i??n search of a more experienced Illumineer to help them fix the Great Illuminary. To do this, they'll sail the Azurite Sea and encounter all sorts of foes who want to control the realm.

You can actually find the Azurite Sea mentioned on a couple of older cards, namely Monstro, Whale of a Whale, and Denahi, Avenging Brother. What I love most about it is that it takes you to a seafaring setting and brings Jim Hawkins from Treasure Planet into the fray?? one again, but this time the?? hero of his own deck.

Ravensburger has revealed several cards from the set on its official site already. As you'll see, almost every major character, at least the ones of note, from Big Hero Six and Rescue Rangers has made it to the set.

At the time of writing, I've not seen any new Peter Pan cards, which is strange because the pirates from that franchise would fit right in ??here. Of course, Ravensburger has to keep some things? secret until release day.

Where to buy the Disney Lorcana Azurite Sea set

The first place you should look to buy the Disney Lorcana Azurite Sea set is your local game s?tore. These are the businesses where you'll get to play with a lot of other players, so they're worth supporting if you can. However?, if you can't buy from a local store, I have a few online suggestions for you.

  • Amazon (US & UK): Amazon is a reliable retailer we all use now and then. The prices for cards here can be a little steep, but it'll have a lot more stock than your local store or other retailers who might run out early.
  • Magic Madhouse (US & UK): I've used Magic Madhouse a few times for Disney Lorcana orders, and they always send products promptly. It's not as expensive as Amazon, but it's still fairly pricey if you're buying a few booster boxes.
  • Chaos Cards (US & UK): Chaos Cards is another very reliable retailer that I trust with my orders. For Disney Lorcana, it's not too expensive. You can even get a discount for buying multiple booster boxes and earn points towards discounts on every order.
  • Axion Now (UK Only): Axion Now is a decent retailer, one of the biggest in the UK for Magic: The Gathering. It's a little slow on the uptake with Disney Lorcana, but it does stock every set and will be a good place to buy from if you can't find Azurite Sea elsewhere.
  • Ravensburger (US & UK): Ravensburger makes Disney Lorcana, so of course it sells sets. However, you're only going to get the latest sets here, and they're roughly $20 more than your local game store will offer them. But they're a good last stop if you're searching everywhere and can't find Azurite Sea on any other website.

During the September 2024 Lorecast, Ravensburger revealed the sixth set for Disney Lorcana, Azurite Sea. The set introduces characters from Big Hero 6 as the Illumineers search for someone experienced enough to?? help repair the Great Illuminary.

Hot on the heels of the launch of the Shimmering Skies set, the Azurite Sea set for Disney Lorcana expands the universe yet again with characters such as Baymax, Hiro Hamada, Honey Lemon, Wasabi, Go Go Tomago, and Fred. But the set isn't all about Big Hero 6, adding Chip and Dale, Gadget Hackwrench, Monterey Jack and Zipper from Chip ’nDale Res?cue Rangers for the first time as well. This set is slated for release on November 15, 2024, meaning you ?haven't got long to wait at all.

A new wave for Lorcana

The Disney Lorcana Azurite Sea set looks incredible. While Big Hero 6 is obviously the main focus with new characters, it's Treasure Planet I'm excited about. The set brings two new decks to the game: An Emerald/Sapphire deck featuring Go Go Tomago and Gadget Hackwrench, and my personal favorite, an Amber/Ruby deck with none other than Jim? Hawkins ?and Tigger.

Stitch of Lilo and Stitch will also be a big part of this set. In?? addition to looking great in every piece of artwork he's featured in, he'll be the star of the Stitch Collector’s Gift Set. This is an interesting box set you can pick up for $49.99 that includes four Azurite Sea booster packs and a special Stitch-Alien Buccaneer promo card with a water-inspired foil treatment.

In addition to this new set, Ravensburger also announced the dates for the next two Disney Lorcana tournaments during the same Lorecast. The details for these, the next North American and European tournaments, are as follow??s.

  • December 6-8, 2024 | Disneyland Paris Resort â€?Disney Newport Bay Club
  • January 10-12, 2025 | Disneyland Resort California â€?Disneyland Hotel

Anyone who has qualified through regional Challenge events this year will be given a badge for the Championship tournament that entitles them to access to the entire event. If you're planning a flying visit to either resort and want to get in on the competition, now is the time to do something about it. Hopefully, Pete, Game Referee doesn't cause a scene, but you never know.

The Azurite Sea set will have been out for roughly a month by the time the championship takes place, so all the latest and most powerful cards will be on full display. I'm excited to see if any Treasure Planet cards come along to brea?k the meta or form part of either ev?ent's winning deck.

During the Tokyo Toy Show 2024, Disney Lorcana made its Japanese debut. The card game is set to be released in the region in January 2025 with a slimmed-down version of The First Chapter set, smaller and ??chea??per booster packs, and three starter decks to get new players started.

As translated and reported by Mushu Report, Disney Lorcana's The First Chapter set has been officially revealed. Ravensburger is working with Takara Tomy as its distributor for the game in Japan. If you've been a fan of Disney Lorcana since it ?was initially released, this lau?nch may look a little wonky to you. While the products that help you leap into the core experience are unaltered, it's the pack-opening experience that's going to feel very different.

New cards for everyone to collect

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RYh9pLS1jQ&embeds_referring_euri=https%3A%2F%2Fmushureport.com%2Fjapanese-lorcana-begins-january-2025%2F&source_ve_path=MjM4NTE

While Disney Lorcana's first Japanese set is a fully translated version of The First Chapter set, it's not quite like it was when it launched in the West. The Japanese set is reported to have 204 cards instead of the 216 the English set has. Booster packs will also be smaller, with 6 cards in e??ach one instead of 12.

However, fewer cards in each pack also means a lower price. So, you'll be able to purchase a Japanese Disney Lorcana booster pack for 330 Yen, which is roughly $2.26. All three main starter decks for the set will be complete with 60 cards, though. Meaning anyone who purchases them has a full deck the??y can play with right out of the box.

While there's no information on which retailers you'll be able to purchase these cards from, you can keep an eye on the Takara Tomy website to see them as soon as they're advertised. Of course, the best part about this set is that it brings Disney Lorcana to a new audience, but it's also a completely n?ew set of cards for collectors to pick up.

Japanese variants are a part of both the Pokemon TCG and Magic: The Gathering. Sometimes, Japanese variants are worth more, others just look ?better if the text is arranged differently, and some feature exclusive artwork.

At the time of writing, The First Chapter is one year old. Booster packs are fairly hard to come by outside of the ones you get in starter decks, and it's not really viable to chase Enchanteds through those. I'm sure that for some fans, ?the set's Japanese release will provide another opportunity to pick up ?rare cards from booster boxes. After all, you can always memorize a card's effect and play it regardless of which language the text is written in.

The Disney Lorcana Shimmering Skies set introduced dozens of new cards for players to experiment with and ruin each other's careful strategies using. One card, in partic?ular, has been causing quite ??a stir within the community because some players don't understand how it works: Pete, Game Referee.

The issue is with Pete, Game Referee's effect. The card's text states, "Blow the Whistle: When you play this character, opponents can't play actions until the start of your next turn." Players are discussing how the card works on T??witter because some believe it's unclear. While many players take the effect at face value, others can't decide if the effect must be announced when played or if it impacts how you play and move other c?ards.

No action cards until your next turn starts

The way Pete, Game Referee's effect should work is exactly as it reads. Once played, your opponent can't play any actions, which are a specific type of card similar to Instants in Magic: The Gathering, until the st??art of y??our next turn. You don't need to announce it. The effect is simply in play once the card has been played.

User CitizensofLorcana posted a quest?ion about the card's ruling on Twitter, and User GooglyGli??mmers, a well-known judge in the community who understands the nuances of the game's rules extremely well, provided a clear and concise answer.

//twitter.com/GooglyGlimmers/status/1829295703467958658

What GooglyGlimmers is saying makes complete sense. The official tournament rules provide a guideline for what could happen with this card's trigger being missed, but it's not precise enough. As they add later in the conversation, "Well, right now we’re at the point where we don’t know what the ?expected amount of communication is. It could be that playing Pete and then correcting your opponent when they try to play an action is sufficient. Or you might have to specify the tri??gger when you play him."

If it were me who had missed the effect, I'd apologize and take back the action card once it was pointed out. But I understa??nd that there are so many more nuanced situations that could arise because of Pete, Game Referee's trigger being missed.

While in a casual game at home or a local game store, it would be easy to simply agree to play a missed trigger once you've caught it or leave it because the turn has passed. In tournaments, though, a missed trigger is a huge deal?? and could be seen as the difference between a player winning or losing, especially if an action card allowed an opponent to draw two cards that helped them get the last 2 Lore they needed to win.

GooglyGlimmers outlined that "Missed triggers have their own section in the Play Corrections Guide that technically covers this exact situation. It just?? lacks the clarity we’re looking for." Players and judges want specificity when it comes to dealing with Pete, Game Referee's effect, and what happens if it's missed, so there's no room for error when decisions are being made at Disney Lorcana's highest level.

Disney Lorcana's first set, The First Chapter, was released in August 2023, but despite the massive appeal of Disney's plethora of characters and movie universes to me as a dad who has watched p?retty much every one of their movies, I never picked the TCG up.

However, when I asked manufacturer Ravensburger what the best way to get into the game was, it told me that the Shimmering Skies set has changed everything with a brand new ??Gateway Box that helps you learn the game and prepare to master it.

Disney Lorcana has only had five sets up, including Shimmering Skies, and I've heard that it's changed a fair bit since launch with the new mechanics and characters added in each set. While the main appeal of any TCG is ripping booster packs and seeing what pulls you get, with Enchanteds being the best in this one, if you want to really get into a TCG?, you need to ??learn how to play it.

What's in the box?

Inside the Disney Lorcana Shimmering Skies Ga??????????????????????????teway bo??x, you get the following.

  • 2 Starter Decks (30 cards each)
  • 4 Reward Packs (18 cards each)
  • 30 Damage Counters
  • 2 Double-sided Character Movers
  • 2 Character Bases
  • 1 Game Board
  • 1 Rulebook
  • 1 Guidebook with QR codes linking to how-to-play video tutorials
  • 2 Deck Tip Pamphlets

This is all you need to get started in the world of Disney Lorcana. Note that the decks and rewards packs are set and don't contain any Enchanteds or extremely rare cards that you might be hoping to pull for from booster packs. This box is desi??gned to teach you how to play, not make you rich.

Once you've opened the box, the guidebook tells you everything you need to know. It outlines your first several games by explaining the basic rules of playing Disney Lorcana with a few card types omitted to keep things simple. This is the most b??are-bones version of the game that only uses character cards.

From there, you need to follow the 'quests' in the rulebook. These require you to play a few games, a villain and hero simultaneously, and quest for Lore. Once you've mastered those basics, you can unlock the Gate 1 pack, which adds Songs and new charact??ers to each deck.

There are four Gate packs to unlock by playing multiple rounds and learning the growing complexities of the game as you go. By the time you've opened Gate 4 and have played a few rounds with all cards unlocked, you're ready to open a booster box, build your own deck, and head to your l??ocal game store for a game night.

I learned how to play Disney Lorcana with my wife, who had absolutely no prev??ious experience playing card games. Over the course of a week, we played rounds each n?ight, adding new cards every time we sat down to play until we couldn't stop.

We usually crack out Scrabble when we have time for a board game, but Disney Lorcana is now our go-to. The Gateway Box made it so much more accessible not only to me but to someone who needed the slower pace and levels to work th??rough before being thrown in at the deep end.

Every card is linked to a Disney movie or franchise, maki??ng this an easy card game to become engrossed in. Most of us watched a few of the movies as children, and parents will know most of the songs by ??heart.

Bringing the characters to life in a new way, with a card game that relies on you earning points instead of fighting each other, just makes Disney and the TCG world feel more accessible as an adult. Disney Lorcana also doesn't really have a proper meta deck yet, meaning you can try out all sorts of card combinations and still be in with a chance of winning. That, and the fact that the goal is to score 20 Lore, not annihilate your opponents, a??dds ??enough elements to the game that require a careful strategy that blurs the line between board games and TCGs.

It's easy to pick up games like Magic: The Gathering by watching people play it on YouTube, but not everyone has the time to sit there and invest hours in learning a game before they decide if they want to buy a few packs and start playing. Even then, there's a significant financial element to every TCG, with Shimmering Skies booster boxes costing over $100 at launch.?? That's a steep price for something you'r?e either only going to collect or 'might' play.

The Disney Lorcana Shimmering Skies Gateway box is the perfect way to get into the game. It's dirt cheap at the time of writing on Amazon, and I imagine that price won't rise too much because this product is designed to be accessible foreve??r.

If you're on the fence about getting into the game, whether you're a l?ong-time TCG fan or have no experience but love Disney or some combination of both, this really is the box for you. Both starter decks are viable against anyone and fun to play. When you feel like you've outgrown that box, there's a whole world of Shimmering Skies and beyond to look forward to, and I can't wait? to see you there.

Disney Lorcana fans couldn't wait to get their hands on the new Shimmering Skies set leading up to its launch weekend. Many pre-ordered their decks and booster boxes early and shared their amazing Enchanted pulls with the community so we can all de?sperately hop?e we get some good ones in our packs.

Fans who have pulled an Enchanted from a Disney Lorcana Shimmering Skies booster pack have been sharing them on the TCG's subreddit. There are a total of 18 in this set alone, but we all obviously have our favorites ?that we'd love to pull for our collection. It looks to me like anybody who picked up a booster box has managed to get at least one Enchanted pull, though there are those who seem to have gotten lucky and picked up a few from theirs.

User RaggleFraggle5 has shared one of my favorites from the set over the Shimmering Skies launch weekend. It's a 5-ink Action card called Finder's Keepers which allows you to draw 3 cards. But the reason I love it so much is because of the gorgeous artwork from Aladdin featuring the one and only Iago.

//www.reddit.com/r/Lorcana/comments/1f089cd/first_enchanted/

User CansofKrylon posted an interesting Enchanted that's very slightly cut incorrectly. It's Snow White, but you can see from the card's back that it's been cut slightly too high. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the error makes it much more valuable beca?use you can't see what the other card, if t?here is one, would be. I'd be keeping this one to play because it's a great conversation piece.

//www.reddit.com/r/Lorcana/comments/1ezw1qt/its_a_beautiful_card_but_im_still_sad_about_it/

User AndiK94 pulled my absolute favorite from the Lorcana Shimmering Skies set. It's Donald Duck Pie Slinger, a 5-Ink Floodborn Hero Knight. He's got Shift, so you can play him for 4-Ink?? if you have another Donald Duck in play. However, it's his abilities tha?t make him the perfect card for me.

Humble Pie allows you to make your opponents lose 2 Lore if you play this card using its Sh?ift cost. Raging Duck adds +6 Strength to the card if your opponents have 10 or more Lore. It's the ultimate comeback card for turn 4 and I can't wait to play it.

//www.reddit.com/r/Lorcana/comments/1ezhwqn/got_my_first_enchanted/

Finally, user Living-Calendar-1716 shared their lovely pulls from the second booster box they picked up. The high??light here is, of course, Clarabel?le.

//www.reddit.com/r/Lorcana/comments/1ezreo8/second_booster_box/

This card has some truly fabulous artwork, but at 7-ink it's not cheap to play. Its Shift cost is 5, which isn't too hefty if you've played a lot of Ink early on. Clarabelle's ability, Keep in Step, is incredibly powerful because it lets you draw cards to match wh??at your opponent has i?n their hand at the end of your turn, provided they have more. This can force your opponents to play their cards early and make mistakes or just give you more to chase Lore with.

I'm yet to pick up my own booster box for Shimmering Skies, but these pulls are making me want to grab more than one. Interestingly, I noticed that t??he prices for booster boxes dropped one day after launch day for the set, so they're worth grabbing soon if you want to build up your collection without breaking the bank.

Disney Lorcana is a TCG with some fabulous cards. It brings the Disney movies and franchises so many of us grew up with to life in a whole new, tangible way. While the game got off to a rocky start with some fans when it came to playability, it's getting better with each set, the latest of which will be Shimmering Skies.

The new set will be released on August 9, 2024, and it's the first time certain Disney names make their TCG debut. The set should mix up the established meta players are accustomed to and give players something to swap into their decks or build new ones around. In particular, players that includes myself are excited about the addition of Wreck-It Ralph, which is why I agreed right away when Ravensburger reached out ??to see if we'd like to reveal six new cards from the upcoming set exclusively.

Six exclusive new Disney Lorcana: Shimmering Skies cards

I've outlined every new and sometimes tasty Disney Lorcana: Shimmering Skies card we're able to reveal below. Just as with Magic: The Gathering sets, new cards can completely change the game, but they also might not be used unt?il another card comes along to make them more powerful. Read through what's on offer below to see if you can find a card that will be in every deck you play.

Fix-It Felix, Jr. (Trusy Builder) - Storyborn

fix it felix jr disney lorcana
Image via Ravensburger

Fix-It Felix, Jr. is a 2/4 Storyborn Hero with Bodyguard. This means he's going to have to be picked as th?e target if your opponent wants to challenge one of your characters. He's fairly strong compared to some characters. Baloo, for example, is a 0/3 not a bad card to play if you want some protection.

Fix-It Felix, Jr. - Floodborn

fix it felix jr floodborn lorcana shimmering skies
Image via Ravensburger

If you want to play Fix-It Felix, Jr. but not as a Storyborn Hero, you can opt to use this Floodborn var?iant. As with all Floodborn characters, he's got Shift, so you can pay less to play him on top of your Storyborn or another version of Fix-It Felix, Jr. This is a great way to evolve your board, especially because the Floodborn version adds two armor to your locations. I can see the duo of this card and the one above it being played a lot because it's quite advantageous.

Fix-It Felix, Jr. (Delighted Sightseer) - Storyborn

fix it felix sightseer disney lorcana shimmering skieds
Image via Ravensburger

This? Delighted Sightseer version of Fix-It Felix, Jr. is the last version of him I have to show off. It's not massively strong at 1/3, but its ability allows you to draw a card if you play it while you have a location. Combined wit??h the Floodborn version, this could see you top up your hand and get things moving in a game much faster than normal.

Wreck-It Ralph - Storyborn

wreck it ralph disney lorcana shimmering skies
Image via Ravensburger

Wreck-It Ralph is a very strong 6/7 Stroyborn hero. His ability, I've Got The Coolest Friend, lets you return a character card from your discard to your hand when you play him. If that card is a Princess character, Vannelope for example, you gain 2 lore. Not only is this ability very appropriate for Ralph, but it's also a great way to pull?? cards back from your discard and replay them. This strateg??y definitely needs some other cards in it to help bolster your board, but I can already see the makings of an interesting loop here.

Sugar Rush Speedway - Location

sugar rush speedway location disney lorcana shimmering skies
Image via Ravensburger

Sugar Rush Speedway might just be Disney Lorcana's tastiest locat??ion to date. Once played, you can move characters to another location for free by dealing a single point of damage to them. In a pitch, I can se??e that being extremely useful against opponents aiming to wipe out your locations one by one systematically.

King Candy - Storyborn Villain

King Candy is a delectable 2/2 Storyborn Villain, King, and Racer. This brings him in line with all the other Racer cards in Shimmering Skies, and while he has no abil??ity, this is a card you might want in you?r deck if you want to build something villainous.

King Candy - Floodborn Villain

I love this Floodborn version of King Candy. It's a strong 3/3 V??illain, King, and Racer with Shift, so you can play the Storyborn version and then pay less to play this monster onto the field. Its abi?lity, Changing the Code, allows you to draw 2 cards and then put a card from your hand on the bottom of your deck when you play it. This feels sneakier than it should, but ultimately, it's going to let you pick up 2 new cards and get rid of one you don't need without it going out of play.

Ravensburger hosted their second Disney Lorcana Lorecast Twitch stream on June 12, 2024, and despite having some technical issues, it was well worth the wait. Viewers were immediately introduced to the name of the fifth set of the TCG: Shimmering Skies. Since a VOD of the stream wasn’t saved, we’ll provide a thorough recap of everything revealed for the new Shimmer?ing Skies set.

For those unfamiliar with Lorecast, Ravensburger held their inaugural Lorecast back in March to reveal Ursula’s Return. The stream t?reats viewers to a well-crafted cinematic that introduces the theme, and notable characters of the upcoming set, and then showcases many exciting card and product reveals.

Disney Lorcana Shimmering Skies product reveals

According to the Lorecast stream, Ravensburger is sticking to the Illumineer’s Trove, booster box, and of course booster packs when it comes to card packs. The gift set seen in sets before Ursula’s Return seems to have been officially retired from the product lineup. Shimmering Skies products will be released in local game stores on August 9th, 2024, and all major retailers on August 23, 2024.

While there hasn’t been an Illumineer’s Quest announced for Shimmering Skies yet, it’s likely that due to its popularity, Ravensburger will revisit this game format in the future. In fact, the team played (and lost) a game against Ursula in the latter half of the Lorecast stream. Each of the members? spoke highly about the game mode and had a blast despite losing.

Shimmering Skies franchises and a new card type

Along with returning franchises such as Frozen, Lion King, and Emperor's New Groove, the Wreck-It Ralph franchise seems to be one of the primary focuses of the Lorcana Shimmering Skies set. An entirely new card type known as "racers" was revealed that comes from the Wreck-It Ralph universe. So far, racers are exclusively found in the Ruby ink type. Judging by the card reveals, racers will be a high-speed cast of characters that have the Rush keyword ability along with other effects t?hat trigger upon entering? play.

Shimmering Skies starter decks

Two exciting new starter decks were briefly teased during the official Lorcana stream. The first is an Amethyst/Ruby deck with Elsa and Wreck-It Ralph as the faces of the deck. They didn’t give any details on the deck strategy but based on our knowledge of the ink types and their synergies, this deck could be an aggro-control deck utilizing the bounce mechanics of Amethyst and the aggression of Ruby.&??nbsp;

The second starter deck has Scar and Kronk leading a cast of Emerald/Steel characters. We know how Emerald and Steel are a common synergy found in competitive Disney Lorcana play, so it won’t be a surprise if ?this becomes one of the best starter decks after its rel??ease.

Every Lorcana Shimmering Skies card reveal

The Lorecast stream treated us to a dozen card reveals but as with every set, many more are introduced leading up to the set’s release. This will be a list of all of the card reveals found from streams, media kits, and the official Lorcana website. Keep in mind that not every card? on the list has an image associated with it ?yet.

Most trading card games (TCGs) struggle with defining the identities of their colors or card types within their early years. Disney Lorcana is still a toddler compared to the rest of the TCG genre, yet it has done a fantastic job at giving each of its ink types a distinct identity. Each? of the six ink types have keyword abilities, themes and strategies that make them worthy of seeing play in both casual and competitive environments.

lorcana six ink types
Image via Ravensburger

Inks in Lorcana can be compared to mana colors from Magic: The Gathering or the various elements from PokĂ©mon. The six different types of inks are:

  • Amber
  • Amethyst
  • Emerald
  • Ruby
  • Sapphire
  • Steel

Why are ink types important in Disney Lorcana?

The Illumineers (players) use ink to play cards such as locations, items, or glimmers (characters). The ty?pe of ink that a card belongs to roughly determines what abilities or overall strategy it relates to. One of the bes??t examples of this is the Ruby ink and how its cards, such as Maui—Hero to All, have keyword abilities such as Reckless or Rush, which enable the aggressive nature of the ink.

Lorcana decks can consist of up to two different ink types. This means if a deck is built with Ruby and Amethyst cards, it cannot contain cards from Emerald or the other ink types. Ideally, decks are built with ink pairs that complement each other which the official Disney Lorcana Starter Decks do wonderfully.

Here are every Disney Lorcana ink type, along with explanations of their characteristics, strengths, and most comp?atible ink pairings.

Every ink type in Disney Lorcana

Amber

The Amber ink type is considered the most supportive ink in Lorcana. Players can find Bodyguards, healing abilities, and? many synergies that aren't found in other ink types. Amber glimmers sport high willpower but has rather insignificant strength stats.

This ink makes great use of the Bounce effects produced from the Amethyst ink or utilizes the high-cost Steel characters to sing some of the most impactful Songs in the game.

Amethyst

Chara??cters from the Amethyst ink type have some of the most powerful abilities in the TCG. The strength of this ink type is heavily attributed to the abilities?? that each card has and thus, doesn't have the best stats. Despite this, Amethyst has one of the most competitive mechanics in the game, known as the "Bounce" effect. This effect allows cards to be returned from play to the owner's hand, which synergizes well with abilities that trigger after entering or exiting play.

Amethyst is found in many top-placing decks in Lorcana tournaments and is often paired with Amber or Ruby ink to create a Bounce Control deck archetype.

Emerald

Players seeking interaction cards (ways to affect the opponent's board or hand) can find what they need in the Emerald ink type. This ink is perfect for those looking to have a reactionary playstyle. Emerald contains many clever forms of card removal and discard effects which can stop your?? o??pponents in their tracks.

Emerald is a somewhat underutilized ink in competitive play, but that's not to say that it is und?erpower??ed. In tournament play, Emerald is found paired with Steel; Slowing down the opponent with pesky discard effects so that they aren't prepared to answer the might of Steel's toughest characters.

Ruby

Lorcana honors the tabletop/TCG tradition of making red a representative of all things aggro. The Ruby ink type is the most aggressive of them all. Characters of the Ruby ink have abilities that enable them to take action immediately after entering play and have many ways to create a board advantage over the opponent. Ruby's strategy is simple which makes it an excellent? ink for beginner players to learn the game with.

Ruby isn't only for newer players, though. This ink is frequently found in the top 4 of tournaments and is one-half of the most popular deck archetype: Bounce Control. This archetype utilizes the bounce mechanic of Amethyst to trigger the aggressive abilities of Ruby cards over and over again. Ruby is also paired with Sapphire to create the fun Pawpsicles archetype.

Sapphire

If Sapphire ink were a class, it would be the wizard. Sapphire contains a wide variety of spells and abilities that enable many strategies found in Lorcana. Some cards grant Ward, which protects allies from the opponent's abilities, along with the greatest sources of card drawing abilities of all of the ink types. Players familiar with other TCGs would be pleased to know that Sapphire is considered the best Ramp ink. In Lorcana, ramping means filling your inkwell quickly so ??that you have the resourc??es to play higher-cost cards before you normally would.

Sapphire's card drawing and ramping characteristics make it the perfect supporting ink for the p?owerful characters found ??in the Ruby and Steel ink types.

Steel

The Steel ink type is by far the most defensive ink in Lorcana. This ink opts for raw stats over fancy abilities and effects. Steel characters boast the highest strength and willpower stats of Lorcana, and they don't stop there. Many of these characters have the Challenger keyword ability whi??ch further boosts their stats whenever they are challenging another character.

The Steel ink's simplistic, brute-force nature requires sufficient support to get the ball rolling. This is why Steel's ??favorite pairings are Emerald and Sapphire since they can either stall the oppon??ent or generate enough resources to play the expensive Steel characters.

As with any trading card game, Disney Lorcana has multiple rarities of cards that influence market prices. T??his impacts both players and collectors alike. But unlike its siblings? within the genre, Lorcana treats its rarest cards much differently.

In other games, such as Magic: The Gathering, high prices prevent less fortunate players from being able to use the strongest cards found in the game. Lorcana’s rarest cards are known as Enchanted cards and are higher-quality prints of existing cards found within each set. This allows collectors and pack openers to have beau?tiful, high-value cards to chase after while enabling players to be able to utilize the more practical, albeit less rare versions of the same card.

lorcana aladdin heroic outlaw comparison

An example of this would be Aladdin - Heroic Outlaw. His Enchanted version is valued (at the time of writing) between $120-160, while his regular version can be purchased for a quarter ($0.25). The cards ??are functionally the same, but the Enchanted version has full, borde?rless card art and is given the holofoil treatment.

The Enchanted card system sets Lorcana apart from other TCGs and brings down the overall costs needed to?? build a competitive deck, something that older games have struggle??d with for years.

Here are the lists of every Enchanted card released so ????far, organized by the set they are a part of. ;

Disney Lorcana is an excellent TCG for veterans of the genre to introduce their friends and family members into the hobby. W??ith an IP that is familiar to people of all ages, beginners can focus on learning basic TCG mechanics and spend less time figuring out how to prono??unce an ancient demon warlord’s middle name.

Your first Lorcana purchase typically comes down to two options. Purchasing a starter deck allows you to jump into a game with a predetermined strategy and decklist. But if the starter decks available don’t resonate with you, you can buy a booster box and immediately have access to a large collection to build your own deck with. This guide will focus on booster boxes and ?tel?l you everything you need to know about this product.

What's in a Disney Lorcana booster box?

lorcana ursula's return booster box
Image via Ravensburger

Each Disney Lorcana booster box contains ??24 booster packs. Since each booster pack is filled with 12 cards, that amounts to 288 cards in each booster box.

So far, every Lorcana set has introduced a little over 200 cards. This means that after rarities are taken into account, a booster box will likely contain over half of the entire set’s collection. If you’re lucky, you may even pull an Enchanted card, the rarest and most valuable type of card in Lorcana.

Booster Box vs. Booster Pack value

Booster boxes are an excellent way to jumpstart your collection. Regardless of the set, booster boxes are always priced in a way that they are cheaper than buying 24 booster packs outright. Boxes sit comfortably around $117 on TCG Market and Retail, while booster packs are found slightly under $6 each. Buying a booster box instead of 24 individual booster packs could save you over $20. Cracking open packs is one of the most fun aspects of TCGs, and doing so at a slight discount makes it even bet?ter.

All of Disney Lorcana’s sealed products (booster packs, boxes, starter decks) can be found in Local Game Stores, retail stores such as Walmart and Target, or online at TCG Market. Each Lorcana set releases with different c?haracters and themes so ??if you’re chasing a particular card, make sure you purchase the booster box from its corresponding set.

Disney Lorcana has attracted many new players to the TCG genre by brin??ging iconic Disney characters and worlds to tabletops across the globe. While many of the older siblings in the genre have decades of mechanics, formats, and rules that new players are expected to learn, Lorcana has kept its gameplay much easier to digest.

Most beginners will look at purchasing a starter deck so that they can immediately jump into a game and learn through action. Each star?ter deck contains:

  • 60 predetermined cards
  • The two characters shown on the front of the package are foil cards
  • 11 game tokens
  • 1 rulebook
  • 1 booster pack containing 12 randomized cards from the respective set

We've assembled a list of all of the current Lorcana starter decks and ranked them based on which are the best ??choices for beginners. These rankings are based on simplicity, how well they demonstrate the core of the game, and their upgradeability.

9. Tactical Teamwork (Amber/Sapphire)

lorcana tactical teamwork starter deck
Image via Ravensburger

This Amber and?? Sapphire deck has a straightforward win condition: Play items and banish them in various ways to trigger effects. The theme is simple and on paper, the deck should be easy for beginners to play.

What m??akes this deck fall short is how punishing it can be i??f you fail to draw the right cards in the right order. Playing characters without items in play means their abilities go to waste. Without many sources of card draw, this deck suffers and can make newer players wonder what they're doing wrong.

Pros:

  • Easy to understand strategy.
  • Some of the cards are staples in competitive decks.

Cons:

  • Bad draws can completely shut down the strategy which makes the deck inconsistent.
  • Doesn't offer a stable foundation for new players to build off of.

Notable Cards:

  • The Queen - Commanding Presence
  • Hiram Flaversham - Toymaker

Where to buy:

8. Daring and Deception (Emerald/Ruby)

lorcana daring and deception starter deck
Image via Ravensburger

Daring and Deception brings a fun strategy that isn't usually found within starter decks of TCGs. Interfering with your opponent's lore and board sounds exciting, and playsty?les like this tend to be very competitive in other games. However, this deck is more complex than it is powerful.

It can be tough for beginners to understand what the win conditions of the build are. To make matters worse, Lorcana doesn't quite have the card library to properly accom??modate this strategy yet.

Pros:

  • Could cripple other starter decks.
  • Fun color combination for future upgrades.

Cons:

  • The deck's strategy isn't practical for beginners.
  • Doesn't introduce many mechanics to new players.

Notable Cards:

  • Aladdin - Heroic Outlaw
  • Cruella De Vil - Miserable as Usual

Where to buy:

7. A Steadfast Strategy (Sapphire/Steel)

lorcana a steadfast strategy starter deck
Image via Ravensburger

A Steadfast Strategy is filled with some of the biggest characters from the first set of Disney Lorcana. This deck has a rather strai?ghtforward goal, and can be satisfying to play if given the right conditions. It contains "tal?l" cards and the means to maintain board advantage once it has been acquired.

The tricky part of this de?ck is getting the ball rolling. Most of the strength within the deck lies in high-cost cards that require a stable foundation to be played upon. Beginners will find it tough to understand how to create the ideal condit??ions for the cards to shine.

Pros:

  • Many characters that are tough to deal with once played.
  • A wide variety of action cards to adapt to different situations.

Cons:

  • Can lose before you have a chance to experience what the deck has to offer.
  • There are many options introduced in future sets that have weakened the best cards in this deck.

Notable Cards:

  • Aurora - Dreaming Guardian
  • Grab Your Sword

Where to buy:

6. Madrigal Magic (Amber/Amethyst)

lorcana madrigal magic starter deck
Image via Ravensburger

The entire Madrigal family has been added to Lorcana with the Ursula's Return set. This is a fun deck to play or even to purchase as a gift for any Encanto fans. As a starter deck, it packs ??a ton of synergy between the family members and each turn feels satisfy?ing to play.

The abilities of the Madrigals cover all sorts of areas, which could be overwhelming to new players at first. This is an excellent deck if you aren't planning to invest too much into upgrades, since it does a ??good enough job on its own.

Pros:

  • Great for Encanto fans that want a theme deck.
  • Lots of synergy built within the Madrigal cards.

Cons:

  • The Madrigal theme means that the deck has limited upgrade paths.
  • Takes some time to understand how the cards work with each other.

Notable Cards:

  • Bruno Madrigal - Out of the Shadows
  • Mirabel Madrigal - Gift of the Family

Where to buy:

5. Dogged and Dynamic (Amber/Emerald)

lorcana dogged and dynamic starter deck
Image via Ravensburger

Dogge?d and Dynamic contains a ton of valuable cards and while it doesn't feel as strong as it should, it can easily be upgraded to a competitive level. Pongo can quickly create a card and board advantage over your opponent, making things sway in your favor due to overwhelming numbers.

How?ever, it feels as though Ravensburger didn't want to include too many menacing characters for Pongo to cycle into your hand each turn. The deck is still viable as far as sta?rter decks go, but it's much better as a foundation for a future deck once you've put the cards into action and seen how the gears turn.

Pros:

  • Minimal effort required to snowball makes it perfect for new players still learning the game.
  • Upgrades are simple since it's a matter of filling the deck with the best character cards.

Cons:

  • Isn't very powerful right out of the box.
  • The value of the individual cards are very low.

Notable Cards:

  • Pongo - Determined Father
  • Lucky - The 15th Puppy

Where to buy:

4. Might and Magic (Amethyst/Steel)

lorcana might and magic starter deck
Image via Ravensburger

If you're looking to make your way into competitive Lorcana (or any TCG for that matter), ??then the Might and Magic starter deck is the perfect introduction to a popular mechanic found in every TCG out there. The deck revolves around the "bounce" mechanic, which returns a character from play back to your hand. While this doesn't immediately sound useful, the inclusion of characters with "enters play" and "exits play" abilities means you can multiply the uses you get out of each card.

Pros:

  • Very fun and rewarding mechanic for new players to learn.
  • Future-proof. The "bounce" mechanic will always have a place in the meta.

Cons:

  • The concept might be a bit slow to grasp for players with limited TCG experience.
  • Lack of staying power to maintain a stable board state.

Notable Cards:

  • Madam Mim - Snake
  • Merlin - Rabbit

Where to buy:

3. Stand Together (Sapphire/Steel)

lorcana stand together starter deck
Image via Ravensburger

The Stand Together deck is built around Heroes, ??and contains many effects that could be considered "plot armor." The strategy of the deck is straightforward, as new players can simp?ly play whatever cards come into their hand and manage to find success.

The focus on Hero characters means that players are set on to a path and directed where to go. For new players, this is exactly what they need to learn Lorcana with minimal complexity.

Pros:

  • Heroes are a broad category so the open-ended them allows for easy upgrades in the future.
  • If played right, can be somewhat competitive right out of the box.

Cons:

  • If a villain meta ever comes around, the hero synergy of the deck will feel pitiful.
  • Not everybody wants to play the "good guys."

Notable Cards:

  • Imperial Bow
  • Anna - True-Hearted

Where to buy:

2. The Heart of Magic (Amber/Amethyst)

lorcana the heart of magic starter deck
Image via Ravensburger

This starter deck was once considered the best, b?ut has lost its throne due to the introduction of increasingly more powerful mechanics each release. The Heart of Magic is a powerfully simple deck that is a fantastic purchase for new players. This deck represents what The First Chapter did best: Showcase the iconic characters o?f Disney and give the players an engaging TCG.

The Heart of Magic can be played?? without a grand strategy in mind. You're able to play menacing characters such as Flotsam and Jetsam, and then bring them back to your ha??nd after being banished with Dr. Facilier - Agent Provocateur. Cinderella and the other Princess cards also bring game-changing synergies to the deck and can lead games on their own.

Pros:

  • Covers all of the basics of Lorcana.
  • One of the strongest starter decks.
  • Many upgrade options.

Cons:

  • Outdated, doesn't contain the latest additions to Lorcana.
  • Lack of valuable staple cards.

Notable Cards:

  • Moana - Of Motunui
  • Dr. Facilier - Agent Provocateur

Where to buy:

1. Plenty of Pluck (Ruby/Sapphire)

lorcana plenty of pluck starter deck
Image via Ravensburger

The Plenty of Pluck starter deck from Into the Inklands is the best entry for players new to Lorcana or TCGs in general. An ideal first deck would contain a majority of the mechanics that Lorcana has to offer while containing many different?? strategies to explore; Plenty of Pluck checks off both of ?these boxes.

?The deck sports many keywords such as Reckless, E??vasive, and Resist. The broad range of abilities included means you have many different options for defeating your opponent. When it comes to the competitive environment, this deck can be the foundation for many different playstyles.

Pros:

  • Includes all of the latest mechanics such as Location cards and the Resist keyword.
  • Broad synergies make the deck easy to upgrade.

Cons:

  • Some character abilities can be quite wordy.
  • Could eventually suffer the same fate of The Heart of Magic and become outdated over time.

Notable Cards:

  • Scrooge McDuck - Richest Duck in the World
  • Moana - Born Leader
