Dragon Ball Sparking Zero took off in 2024, dominating the fighting game genre with its highly competitive tournaments. 2025 promises to bring even more content with the latest lineup of cha??rac?ters and modes.

If you own the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition of the game, you'll be able to access several additional content in the near future. Bandai Namco has already announced that there will be post-launch add-ons, and we're here to show when to expect the Dragon Ball Sparking Zero DLCs to be released.

Dragon Ball Sparking Zero DLC release date

The Hero of Justice Pack will be the first DLC of Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, launching on Jan. 23, 2025. For those eager to dive in early, a special 72-hour access period will be available. The pack centers around the hit film Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, where Gohan and Piccolo go against th?e notorious Red?? Ribbon Army.

Two other DLCs have already been confirmed but have yet to get an official release date. Although the timeframes are shrouded in mystery, we know that it will involve Dragon Ball Daima, the most recent anime of the franchise. DLC 2 will i?nclude Glorio and Vegeta (Mini) from the series, as wel??l as a few more surprise characters.

Features from DLC 3 are still kept under wraps, but it will likely continue off from the second add-on, providing more characters from Daima. Those who own the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition of Dragon Ball Sparking Zero w?ill g?ain access to this content automatically. But if you don't own either of these editions, you can buy the Season Pass separately for $34.99.

What's included in Sparking Zero Hero of Justice DLC?

To get a sneak pe??ek at the Hero of Justice DLC, here's a look into what it has to offer:

  • 11 New playable characters
  • 1 Costume
  • 3 Custom Battles
  • 72 hours early access availability

Since the Hero of Justice Pack derives from the Super Hero film, you'll have access to a few characters from this storyline. There's also a costume that seemingly depicts a classic Red Ribbon Army outfit. You can try them all out in the three new Custom Battles. These battles typically include a What If? scenario, which presents a unique situation that diverges from the canon Dragon Ball timeline, allowing yo?u to explore different outcomes.

The Sparking Zero DLC 1 Announcement Trailer and official Steam page confirms the followin?g characters:

    • Gohan Super Saiyan 2 (SH)
    • Ultimate Gohan (SH)

    • Orange Piccolo
    • Orange Piccolo (Giant)
    • Cell Max

  • DLC 2:

    • Vegeta (Mini)

In DLC 1, our heroes, Gohan and Piccolo, come in various forms, expanding their collection in Sparking Zero's base version. Gohan Beast and Orange Piccolo are among the best variants, showcasing their ultimate forms. However, if you prefer a more villainous role, the antago?nists, Gamma 1, Gamma 2, and Cell Max, will be available to play in the upcoming? DLC.

Just like any other popular fighting game, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is no stranger to well-made fan-created content. Even 4 months after its initial release, talented fans are still making wild ??and creative mods, like this one, which adds the iconic Pokémon Greninja to the game's expansive roster.

//youtu.be/aStcanRCdXU

Nyoh972 is a talented modder who has been working on a personal project named Project: P, which adds one popular Pokémon mod from each generation to Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero. While he already completed some amazing cha??racters like Lucario, Blaziken, and Golisopod, his newest one, the representative from the Kal?os region, is one of the best ones so far.

Greninja, the Ninja Pokémon, was first introduced in Pokémon X and Y, and it quickly became one of the most popular creatures in the franchise, thanks to its slick design, its formidable battle abilities, and its appearances in Super Smash Bros and the Pokémon anime. So it's no surprise that Nyoh972 chose Greninja as the representative of the Sixth Generation and added it to Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero. His? ambitious mod is now av?ailable to download on Game Banana, and it even comes with a full description of every mechanic and move t?hat the Ninja Pokémon can use.

This Pokémon mod is so incredible and ambitious that it feels official

Greninja the Pokémon changes its typing in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.
Image via Nyoh972/GameBanana

It's important to keep in mind that Nyoh972's Greninja mod is not just a simple skin, it's a complete character with its own unique move set. In Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, Greninja can use its signature move, Water Shuriken, alongside many other powerful moves it can learn in the Pokémon games, l??ike Hydro Pump, Shadow Sneak, Toxic, and Dark Pulse. Another great detail is that it??s iconic Shiny version is available as an alternate costume.

However, the most impressive aspect of this Greninja mod is the inclusion of its hidden ability, Protean. In the Pokémon games, it allows its user to change its typing to the type of move it's about to use, which was extremely useful until Game Freak nerfed it in Scarlet and Violet. Protean has been synonymous with Greninja for more than 10 years, so it's no surprise that Nyoh972 decided to include it in his Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero mod, where it lets the Ninja Pokémon change its skills between 4 different types (Water, Dark, Poison and Ghost) without changing form. This is actually a brilliant addition that proves this creator is a huge Pokémon fan.

The only thing missing from this mod is Battle Bond Greninja (AKA Ash-Greninja), the special transformation that it can achieve in Pokémon Sun and Moon and in Pokémon the Series: XY. Don't worry, however, because Nyoh972 already confirmed that he's working on a Battle Bond Greninja mod that he w?ill upload as a separate, 2-stage character, in the near future.

If you're still looking to improve your collection and get more resources in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, the Shenron summonings can ??be highly beneficial.

Shenron is one of the different summoning types available in the game. To summon him, you'll need to gather seven Dragon Balls. You can choose between five d??ifferent types of wishes, but not all of them are the same. Here's my ranking of the five different summo??ns, from least to most helpful.

All Shenron summonings ranked in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

Do note that this ranking is based on personal preferences,?? and the order will change based on your current collection and factors like how much Zeni you might already have.

5. I Want More Titles

S??ure, you can get some exclusive titles by wishing to Shenron, and they can be really cool if you want to show them off to your friends. That said, farming Dragon Balls to?? spend on wishes seems a tad foolish to me. At the end of the day, the titles, exclusive or not, don't offer any in-game advantage, and spending your hard-earned resources might not be the most advisable thing to do.

4. I Want New Outfits

This entry can be swapped with I Want More Zeni if you love the alternate outfits provided by Shenron. He can grant you alternate outfits for Roshi, Krillin, Yamcha, and Goku. Unfortunately, outfits are purely cosmetic, and there a??re plenty of other methods to get them aside from spending your Dragon Balls.

3. I Want More Zeni

In my book, Zeni is the most helpful resource as it can be used to get Ability items and fighters alike. Shenron can grant you 300,000 Zeni, which will instantly help you get access to some of the better characters. Similarly, the Ability items can be handy to help you clear a few challenging stages. That said, you'll soon find that earning Zeni in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero isn't a difficult task.

2. I Want You to Raise My Player Level

Similar to Zeni, your level will go up as you complete more fights. But getting a wish will help you accelerate quicker and unlock more items in the shop. Leveling up goes down in importance with time, but when you're just getting started with the game, a boost to your player levels? will be immensely helpful.

1. I Want to Complete an Episode Battle

If you make this wish, you'll get a Dragon Orb. This resource is incredibly helpful in unlocking the Sparking episodes. Sparking episodes are what-if-styled alternate storylines that are available for eight different characters. To unlock them, you'll often have to compl?ete secondary objectives of specific episodes. That problem can be solved by using a Dragon Orb, and it can be beneficial to clear some of the harder second challenges.

Writing guides for a living, you usually leave the menu on while you work on each article. However, for this instance with the Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero menus, I furiously turn off the game and go to the PS5 hom??e screen.

That's because the Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero menus are so irritating that they spiral my brain out of focus. The most agonizing thing about these menus is that you'll hear the same voicelines over and over again, sometimes repeating straight after they've said them. You'll either hear the interviewer agonizingly asking questions to Tien and Android 17 over ??and over, or have Goku ask Dende wh??at he's up to. Hercule is also a pain as he constantly gets spooked by Goku appearing at his house by instant transmission.

Hercule gets scared every time in the Dragon Ball Sparking Zero menus.
Screenshot by Destructoid

The odd thing about the Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero menus, however, is how the characters speak and then get no response. For example, Dende says nothing when Goku asks what he spends his time doing. It's very offputting. If you're goi?ng to have them speak the same lines over and over, at least make it a conversation. It's better than G??oku saying, "Hmm, what do I want?" 8 times in two minutes.

Unfortunately, that's not the most annoying element of the Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero menus. When you head to the Shop in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, Bulma harasses you with the same voice lines over and over and over again, wishing that Vegeta would take her on a shopping spree. The same annoying tone of voice? makes me stop writing about unlocking a characte??r and turning the game off.

They also picked the most annoying character for a part of the main menu, Zen-Oh. In his frustratingly high-pitched voice, he constantly asks Goku to play with h??im. When you're completing Zen-Oh's Orders, he says the same line again and asks, "Hey, he?y, what you gonna play today?" and says "I've got a favor for ya!" He says that second line five times in a minute sometimes. AHHHH! This is my nightmare.

It's not?? just the voices that are annoying, however. The way the menu is structured also grind??s my teeth. You see, Goku transitions between each scene that acts as a menu location. The problem is that this makes the menu feel sluggish and if the left analog stick detects the input going a little to the left or the right, it immediately goes to another menu section. Admittedly, it's a mild inconvenience, but it happens so often that it becomes agonizing to deal with. At one moment, I even saw Master Roshi T-Pose.

Hopefully, Bandai Namco and Spike Chunsoft bring a patch that gives players the option to mute the characters. I immediately dread booting the game up because of how annoying the menus are. Thankfully, this fighting game is particularly? awesome to play, so the gameplay makes up for it.

Okay, it is not news to anyone that the top of the Dragon Ball Sparking Zero meta is filled with ei?ther fusions or characters costing massive amounts of Destruction Points (or DP). But contrary to what you migh?t expect, a few low-cost units can also be considered broken.

To help you assemble the perfect team and show that DP does not mean quality when climbing the ranks, here are the best characters under 4 DP in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

10. Captain Ginyu

  • DP Cost: 4
  • How to Unlock: Available from the get-go.

You know why he is here, right? A staple gimmick character, Ginyu's ability to switch bodies (and health bars) with an opponent by performing his Ultimate Blast (Body Change) makes him the joker among jokers in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero. T?o help you set out the perfect trap and either get rid of a threat or force out timeout wins quickly, he can also lower his health with Dangerous Shock and enter immediate Sparking by performing SP Fighting Pose 5.

9. Trunks (Sword)

  • DP Cost: 4
  • How to Unlock: Available from the get-go.

Although an all-rounder, Trunks makes it to our list given ho??w easily he can awaken the Tapion in him by going Super Saiyan. Once transformed, he will get access to all of the speed and combo potential you can expect of a swordsman, all while still being able to instantly enter Sparking. His fan-favorite Burning Attack will also make its presence known, thus guaranteeing that the Warrior from the Future will remain a threat no matter the scenario.

8. Videl

  • DP Cost: 2
  • How to Unlock: By purchasing her from the game's shop for 30,000 Zeni (Available from the get-go).

The first character in our list to have the ability to perform unlimited High-Speed Evasions through Afterimage Strike, Videl pairs that with the potential for devastatin??g rush mixups, all of which can be easily chained into Videl Kick. Even if her low health will cause you to in most cases go ?for Afterimage Strike, she can also buff herself and add her Ultimate Blast to her arsenal in one go via Super Unyielding Spirit.

7. Gohan (Teen)

Gohan (Teen), one of the best low DP characters in Sparking Zero.

  • DP Cost: 4
  • How to Unlock: Available from the get-go.

Similarly to Trunks, Gohan (Teen) makes it to our list given his ability to easily transform into Super Saiyan 2, which will give him access to a get-off move, as well as the ability to gain buffs/enter Sparking with Unfor??givable and close off combos w?ith a bang through his 2-ki bar Super Kamehameha. The latter is for me his biggest differential, as its quick startup allows the Cell Games Hero to easily chain it with his unguardable Father-Son Kamehameha for devastating damage.

6. Burter

Burter, one of the best low dp characters in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

  • DP Cost: 3
  • How to Unlock: Available from the get-go.

Arguably the fastest character in Sparking Zero, no matter their DP value, Burter stays true to his self-proclaimed title of the Fastest in the Universe. That allows him to both close in quickly, as well as chain together lighting flash combos that can easily overwhelm opponents. Like most characters here, he can also activate Sparking and finish off characters? in the blink of an eye by performing his SP Fighting Pose 5 Skill.

5. Yajirobe

  • DP Cost: 2
  • How to Acquire: By purchasing him from the game's shop for 30,000 Zeni (Available from the get-go).

Although not the monster ??he once was given his now low health and reduced starting Skill count, Yajirobe ears his spot here through not might or speed. Instead, it's all about his ability to fully heal his HP by performing Senzu Beans. Needless to say, the above can be a game-changer in the hands of an experienced player looking to either turn the tide in their favor or secure a time-out win.

4. Pan (GT)

  • DP Cost: 3
  • How to Unlock: By purchasing her from the game's shop for 45,000 Zeni (Available from the get-go).

As you can expect given her parents, Pan (GT) pairs Videl's combo potential w?ith the versatility of her chargeable Kamehameha, which can both snipe foes from afar and consistently close off combos. Pan is also considered by many to be the best non-Super Vegito Afterimage Strike user in the game, as her ability to enter the field with two Skill bars guarante??es she will get quick access to the skill.

3. Krillin

Krillin, one of the best low DP characters in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

  • DP Cost: 3
  • How to Unlock: Available from the get-go.

Krillin brings to the tabl??e solid normals, all of the security that comes with Afterimage Strike, as well as two solid beams with his Kamehameha and tracking Spread Energy Wave, the latter of which is his biggest differential when compared to all other Afterimage Strike users. To close hi??s kit, he also has in his unguardable Ultimate Blast a secured source of massive damage.

2. Dr. Wheelo

Dr. Wheelo, one of the best low DP characters in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

  • DP Cost: 4
  • How to Unlock: By either purchasing it from the shop for 45,000 Zeni (only after reaching Player Level 10). Can also be acquired as a reward after completing ten matches with Dr. Gero.

The nimblest giant in Sparking Zero, Dr. Wheelo became infamous given his ability to pair the archetype's high HP, unblockable dash, and armor with a long-range grab? even high-rank players are known to fall prey to. His ability to immediately enter Sparking also allows the villain ?to easily combo into his Ultimate Blast for devastating damage.

1. Dr. Gero (and Android 19)

Dr. Gero, one of the best low DP characters in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

  • DP Cost: 4 (Both)
  • How to Unlock: Available from the get-go.

The biggest low-DP menaces in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, Dr. Gero and Android 19 (given their identical kits), became known for their ability to easily pair the armor courte??sy of False Courage with their fast rush strikes and grabs, a strategy they can apply from the get-go thanks to t?heir starting Skill-counts.

But that's not the main reason why they take this spot, as due to what I can only believe to be an error, they are even more dangerous if given space. What do I mean by that? To put it simply, both Dr. Gero and Android 19 are the only characters in the game capable of perf??orming uninterrupted Dragon Dashes, a feat that allows them to effortlessly force time-out wins. After all, how are you supposed to hit an enemy you cannot even reach?

Blocking in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is essential if you want to win matches offline or online. You'll nee?d to stand your guard against incoming combos and powerful projectiles like a Kameham?eha or a Big Bang Attack.

All block moves in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero

There are three different kinds of blocks in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero. The right shoulder button (R1/RB) by itself is your standard block for most attacks. However, you'll need to guard against positional strikes too. If your opponent is trying to pull off an overhead attack, hold the right shoulder button and move your left analog stick up. If your foe sweeps your feet, hold the right shoulder button and move the left analog stick down. It's sometimes hard to detect where to move your ch??aracter, but you're more often than not safe by pressing RB by itself.

Be careful, however. If you guard in the wrong direction, the opponent can perform a charged kick or punch that will leave you flying like Team Rocket blasting off in the Pokemon series. If you ever get confused, read the full controls here.

More defensive moves to consider

There are additional defensive maneuvers you can perform. At the cost of 2 Skill Count, you can perform a counter. It's costly but can save you in tight situations. Press the right analog stick while the opponent is in a combo to counter them. It's a good way to escape a combo. This also works against Ki attacks (energy blasts) ?and zooms you towards the foe in a flash. Be careful, however. If you use counters too often, your foe can press the circle button (B on Xbox) to counter yo?ur counter.

If your opponent tries to throw you, you can cancel it by pressing the block button. Super Counters can also be ??performed while an enemy is mid-combo. Press up and the regular attack button (square on PlayStation) just as they're about to land a hit to instantly stop the foe. It's hard to pull off, but it's oh so satisfying. Lastly, you can instant transmission and appear behind an enemy by tapping the guard button just before the attack begins the animation.

Now you know these tips, block in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero and unlock characters like Super Garlic Jr., champ!

Mecha Frieza is a feared character in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero as in one timeline, he can devastate the Earth as reve??nge for his loss on Namek. You can unlock him and create an ultimate team of Friezas if y??ou want.

How to get Mecha Frieza in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero

There are two ways you can unlock Mecha Frieza in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero. They include the following:

  1. Buy him from the Shop for 90,000 Zeni at Player Level 1.
  2. Complete Frieza Descends on Earth mission during Android/Cell Arc in Episode Battle mode.

Mecha Frieza can be bought with Zeni in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero
Screenshot by Destructoid

The easiest way to get Mecha Frieza in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is to outright buy the villain from the shop for your roster. However, you can save your money (and also get your Zeni back) by completing the Frieza Descends on Earth mission during his timeline in the Episode Battle mode. It comes just after the Frieza saga in Namek and at the beginning of the Android/Cell arc back on? Earth.

Frieza finds himself fa??cing off against Trunks, who came from the future to warn Earth about the Androids. He will be tough as he counters often against your combos. Try to mix and match your button presses to take advantage of the fight. Get into overdrive often and try to hit him with as many strikes as possible in a flurry. Then, hit Mecha Frieza's special move Supernova to take down multiple bars of health. Death Beam and Fissure Slash are also great attacks to utilize after knocking back the saiyan.

If you beat Trunks quickly, you'll see an alternate path??, in which Mecha Frieza finally gets his revenge on Goku and destroys Earth. If not, you'll continue down the normal storyline and miss out on the alternate mission.

Is Mecha Frieza worth unlocking?

Mecha Frieza is a relatively strong option. He's a good unlockable to get in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero. While he lacks in HP, he's strong with his Special Attac and Ki. He can also string a decent combo. He's obviously not as good as Golden Frieza, but it's fun to see a mechanized version of Frieza. You can unlock some of the Frieza Force fighters too in the game.

Dr. Wheelo in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is a huge robotic beast that can ?deal a lot of damage against the Z-Warriors. You can use this monstrous power if you unlock it in one of two different ways.

How to get Dr. Wheelo in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero

Dragon Ball Z: The World's Strongest antagonist Dr. Wheelo is available as a hulking character in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero. He can destroy a world with his Planet Geyser attack that's represented in Sparking Zero. There are tw??o ways to unlock the villain in this game. Th??ey include:

  1. After getting to Player Level 10, you can purchase Dr. Wheelo for 45,000 Zeni from the Shop
  2. Play as Dr. Gero in any battle 10 times

The cheapest way to get Dr. Wheelo is to complete a battle playing as Dr. Gero 10 times. The best method is to hav??e Dr. Gero face Hercule (Mr. Satan) as he's the weakest character in the game. His HP is low and Dr. Gero's special attack Drain Life 20 obliterates the human's health quickly. Kid Gohan and Videl also work for this if you get tired of seeing Hercule's mug.

The problem with Dr. Gero, however, is that ??he can't charge Ki like other cha?racters. You can increase his Ki meter by attacking foes and once the bar is golden, you can charge Dr. Gero into his MAX state. From here, you can use Drain Life 20.

After finishing 10 battles with Dr. Gero, head to Zen-Oh's Orders on the Main Menu and redeem your reward, Dr. Wheelo.

Other characters you can unlock

Cui is an easy unlockable you can get from the beginning of the game. Simply start Vegeta's storyline in the Episode Battle mode and defeat Vegeta's minion to unlock him. Cui is also immediate??ly availabl??e from the Shop.

Another relatively easy unlock is Super Garlic Jr. You need to complete 10 battles with Piccol??o to get the villain for your roster or you can purchase him from the Shop after getting Player Level 10.

Goku Black is one of the more mysterious characters in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, and his alternate st??oryline certainly surprised me.

Unlike characters like Goku and Future Trunks, Goku Black has only one Sparking episode, and it's relatively short. Titled Proof of Justice, there are only three episodes to complete. That said, the second episode, named Their Choice, can prove to be a stern test for the players. Not only do you go up against two mighty foes, but your potential ab??ilities as Goku Black are limited. Let's take a look at how to complete Their Choice episode, which is mandatory if you want to finish Proof of Justice.

How to trigger Goku Black's Their Choice episode in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

Their Choice is the second episode of Goku Black's Sparking episode Proof of Justice. So the second episode, like the entire saga, remains locked. To unlock it, you'll have to complete Goku and Vegeta in Act Three Begins. Between the two of them, Vegeta is more straightforward to defeat. Do note that you'll have to beat both of them within a likely time limit of three minutes. Otherwise, the alternate trigger condition will fail? automatically.

You'll want to charge up Ki as much as possible to land your Black Kamehameha on Goku. Once he's t??aken enough damage, dash in to land a set of mele??e combos, and then land the Godly Black Kamehameha when your opponent has no way to block it.

The first episode of the alternate timeline - Danger Posed by Zamasu -? has you go up against Trunks. This is a relatively straightforward episode compared t??o what's coming up next.

How to defeat Vegito in Their Choice episode in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

Do note that this walkthrough refers to the main ending of the Sparking episode. There's an alternate ending as well, where Goku Black and Zamasu fuse to defea??t Vegito. On the path mentioned here, you'll have to defeat Vegito as Goku Black only.

The episode begins with Goku Black stopping Zamasu from being too cocky when Vegito appears to face the duo. As both Goku Black and Zamasu rush in with their attacks, they find ??out that Vegito is much more powerful th?an Vegeta and Goku in their solo forms.

In my experience, you'll want to avoid trying to overuse the dash - Vegito manages to vanish out of your combos a lot. A key is to charg??e up?? your Ki meter as much as possible. Whenever you've landed a few combos and created some distance between Vegito, charge up the Ki meter. Unless needed, you'll want to use the meter only to hit Godly Black Kamehameha.

An image of Goku Black vs Vegito in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero
Image via Destructoid

The typical attack pattern to follow is a set of combos-charging up your Ki-Godly Black Kamehameha. On the defense, it's best to rely entirely on your vanishing act to get behind Vegito. Sonic Sway should work if timed correctly, but I fel??t uncomfortable letting my opponent get too close in t?his battle.

Once you've defeated Vegito, Goku and Vegeta will appear, shocked that the effect has worn off. But they will be saved by Trunks?, who gets struck down by Zamasu and Goku Black. This will lead you to the final episode, where you go up against Goku and Vegeta. I failed several times trying to beat Vegito, so don't be disheartened if your first few tries don't work out well.

The vengeful Super Garlic Jr. in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is angry over the sealing of his father from Kami. A?fter unlocking the character, you can place that anger into defeating the likes of Piccolo and Goku.

Two ways to unlock Super Garlic Jr. in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero

There are two methods to unlock Super Garlic Jr. in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero. You'll need to do either of the following:

  1. Finish 10 matches with Piccolo.
  2. Buy Super Garlic Jr. from the Shop for 45,000 Zeni and you'll need to be Player Level 5.

The quickest way to unlock Super Garlic Jr. from Player Level 1 is to play 10 matches with Piccolo. Go to Battle, and then Offline to start matches against the CPU. You'll want to beat your foe as quickly as possible, so make sure Piccolo's opponent is Hercule (Mr. Satan). His HP is low, so it should take a few minutes, if that. You definitely don't want to face the likes of Gogeta or Ultra Instinct Goku, for example.

Play as Piccolo 10 times to unlock Super Garlic Jr. in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero

Also, pick the standard Piccolo, not the one fused with Kami. If you get bored of Hercule, you can choose the Kid version of Gohan, who is fairly w??eak as well. You can change the CPU team by pressing the right shoulder button (R1) and selecting the character.

How to use Piccolo

To quicken the process even more, use Piccolo's moves like Special Beam Cannon. You can activate it after charging up and reaching the MAX meter after getting to 1 on the top left meter. The Paralyze Beam can be a great set-up for a projectile move as it keeps them paralyzed for a few seconds. It would help to learn how to escape combos as well.

Breaking out of combos can be one of the most essential things to do during ?a fight in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, but it's easier said than done.

When you're playing against the AI at lower difficulties, it's pretty easy to break combos. Moreover, the AI at lower difficulty hardly chains combos in the first plac?e. But that's not the case when you're playing a human opponent or crank up the difficulty?? of the AI. In such contests, you'll find your opponents attempting plenty of combos, which makes it crucial for you to counter the combos and escape the chain without taking too much damage.

Disclaimer: Standard layout used.

How to counter combos in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

In my experience, Ranked has plenty of players who love to Super Dash towards you. An easy and effective way to stop that is by using your Ki Blast. Just step back and hit them with your Ki Blast. This will stop their dash, and they're also open ?to getting hit by the Blasts. While there are better ways to counter and escape combos, this is a simple trick that's useful against those who want to spam the Super Dash move.

Master Roshi's Training
Screenshot by Destructoid

  • Vanish: Vanishing can be an effective way to escape combos. Just press the R1/RB button the moment your opponent is going to land an attack, and you'll vanish in thin air, only to reappear and catch them off guard. This is the simplest way to vanish, but there are plenty of more advanced variants. Make sure to read our guide on how to master Vanishin?g techniques in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.
  • Sidestep: Something as simple as Sidestepping can be equally effective at dodging combos. It does not require any Ki or complex button mashing. To get good at sidestepping, you'll have to anticipate what your opponent is doing. Knowing the direction of your attack will be critical, as you'll want to either move to the left or the right. Sidestepping isn't only an excellent dodge move, but you can also start your combos by pressing the Square button.
  • Sonic Sway: Sonic Sway is my favorite form of defense, and using it effectively makes a huge difference. To perform Sonic Sway, you'll have to press the R1/RB+ Circle/B buttons. The Circle/B button has to be pressed right before your opponent lands their attack. If you need a guide, here's how to master Sonic Sway.

Out of all available methods, Super Counter is the most complicated maneuver to master. Once you're comfortable with this skill, you'll be able to break any combo move attempt of your opponent and land some mighty punches yourself. To perform a Super Counter, you'll have to press the LS (up) + Square/X.

As effective as Super Counter is, I have found it extremely difficult to time correctly (you're likely going to do better than me). If you can time the move perfectly, you'll avoid every combo/move with high damage. To get better, you can always train against the AI in Super difficulty to build up your muscle memory. That said, Dragon Ball Sparking Zero provides plenty of wa??ys to esca??pe a combo, even if you're not good at Super Counter.

Dragon Ball Sparking Zero a??llows players to emulate some of the franchises' biggest battles while pick?ing from a massive roster of 182 characters, which believe it or not, only features 20 Gokus and 14 Vegetas.

But given the large number of familiar faces, it was expected that a few characters would set themselves apart, even if one of them might surprise even the biggest fans. Here are the 10 best characters in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, ranked.

10. Goku (GT)

Goku (GT) in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

One of the most well-known characters with?in his DP range, Goku (GT) has the auto-evasions courtesy of Afterimage Strike as his biggest strength. But don't go thinking that's all he b?rings to the field, as the skill only potentializes his all-rounder kit, which features fairly quick normals, a great combo finisher in Dragon First, and the ability to transform into both Super Saiyan 3 and 4 for a massive dose of extra damage.

9. Beerus

Beerus in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

Justifying his massive 10 DP cost in team battles, Beerus boasts all the health, speed, and da??mage you can expect of a character of his position, the latter of which is shown by his Super Sphere of Destruction Ultimate Blast. To add to that, his ability to recover around one and a half health bars by performing the fairly expensive Speep and instantly enter Sparking by performing Verdict of Destruction makes the ruler an all-rounder manace.

8. Broly (Z) Legendary Super Saiyan

Broly (Z) in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

What I consider to be the closest thing Sparking Zero has to a grappler, the Legendary Super Saiyan version of Broly (Z) is unstoppable at close range, as his unblockable Gigantic Hammer Rush Skill, fast blasts, and high damage per hit are more than enou??gh to keep opponents on their toes. ?If given enough time, Broly can also perform Kakarottt! to immediately buff himself and enter Sparking Mode, thus getting instant access to his unguardable Ultimate Blast.

7. Vegito (Super) Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan

Super Saiyan Blue Vegito, as he appears in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

The first of the many fusions featured here, Vegito (Super) Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan or simply Vegito Blue is one of the most oppressive characters in Sparking Zero, given his unpredictable combos and ability to recover all of his ki by performing Full Power Charge. The latter also allows him?? to get an easy path to Sparking and enables the spamming of h?is God Kamehameha and Omega Finishing Blow for some devastating combos. As with most transformed fusions, Vegito also has access to six Skill gauges and boasts four health bars if chosen from the get-go.

6. Gogeta (Super) Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan

What happens when you pair the ability to perform highly unpredictable high-speed combos, one of the trickiest blasts to avoid in the game (screams at Stardust Explosion), Instan?t Transmission, and the high damage you can expect from a fusion? Well, you get Gogeta (Super) Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan.

But if that was not enough and to the delight of all who like me love the character, Gogeta has arguably the best mid-range blast game in Sparking Zero,? with his charged one sending multiple high-speed projectiles capable of dealing damage on par w??ith many characters' non-charged beams.

5. Goku (Super) Ultra Instinct

Ultra Instinct Goku, as shown in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

Apart from the health boost the version gains when compared to Sign, Goku (Super) Ultra Instinct boasts one of the highest damage outputs in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, a feat that allows him to obliterate opponents by pairing his fast strikes with his quick draw Ul??tra Kamehameha and Ultra Barrage Rush Skill. As you can guess, he can also immediately buff his stats and enter Sparking by performing N?o Backing Down, thus guaranteeing that you can go all-out, non-stop.

The Ultra Instinct versions of Goku are also the only characters in the game capable of dodging regular Rush ?strikes without performing Sonic Sways or vanishes, which can be a great tool in the right hands.

4. Yajirobe

Yajirobe, for many the best character in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

A low DP god, Yajirobe earns his spot given his unique ability to fully heal by using "Sanzu Bean", ??which makes him both a phenomenal resource and the most frustrating? character to face in the game. To put it mildly, when faced with the swordsman, getting hit by a simple Smash might mean having to climb the Korin Tower all over again.

But don't? go thinking that you can just pick him and excel, as even if "unkillable" for many, Yajirobe is by no means an easy pick and will demand an ample domain over the game's defensive mechanics to make up for his low health and damage.

3. Jiren (Full Power)

Jiren, as shown in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

As you can expect of the Tournament of Power's strongest warr?ior, Jiren (Full Power) pairs some of the fastest rush combos in the game with a highly adaptable and effective Skill selection. Examples of that can be seen in his ability to counter Z-Bursts and Dragon Dashes by performing either Overwhelming Blast or his Ki Storm get-off move. His ability to get a huge amount of buffs and immediately enter Sparking by perfor??ming Strength is Absolute also means that true to his philosophy, there's no right answer but to give it your all on the field when facing Jiren.

2. Super Vegito

Super Vegito, as shown in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

The game's current boogeyman, Super Ve?gito mixes the combo potential of his Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan form with the Afterimage Strike skill, which allows him to apply unmatched amounts of pressure while staying in control and dealing high damage at both close and long range. On the downside, although the above allows him to easily counter pretty m??uch all matchups in the game, his inability to instantly trigger Sparking stops him from getting the number-one spot.

1. Gogeta (GT)

Gogeta (GT).

A character that brings to the table all of the biggest strengths of the Blue versions of Vegito and Gogeta, Gogeta (GT) or Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta pairs the fastest move set among the characters here ??with two devastating combo enders in his Ultimate Impact Rush Skill and almost instantaneous Big Bang Kamehameha.

But what if you manage to get the timing of his mixups right and escape one of his combos? Well, that's only half the battle, as Gogeta can also get an auto ev?asion w??ith Wild Sense and take his already massive damage output to new heights by activating Power Up to the Very Limit, which will automatically trigger Sparking and make sure he has more than enough for another go or even a TOD combo.

Continuing its reign, Afterimage Strike is by far one of the best skills in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, as it allows characters to perform an unlimited amount of automatic High-Speed Evasions within a 15-se??co?nd time limit.

Hence, it's no surprise that picking a character capable of the skill can be a game-changer, no matter whether you are playing 1v1 or against teams. To help you build the perfect squad, here are all of the characters who have the Afterimage Strike skill in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

All characters who have Afterimage Strike in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

From the 182 faces featured in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, a total of 10 characters have the Afterimage Strike Skil??l in their arsenal, with Super Vegito being by far the best. You can check out all of them below, as well as their individual DP cost.

Character DP Cost
Goku (GT) 5
Goku (Teen) 3
Gohan (Kid) 3
Krillin 3
Super Vegito 8
Videl 2
Master Roshi 2
Pan (GT) 3
Dabura 6
Zamasu 5

Apart from the already mentioned Super Vegito, Master Roshi, Pan, and Krillin are absolute standouts among the above, as they will cost meager amounts of DP and be able to make full use of the skill while staying dangerous at any range. Videl is also a personal favorite of mine, as her Rush Blasts allow her to perform killer combos. But be careful if you plan on taking her to the field, as her inability to perform High-Speed Movements and Returns will demand that you master Sonic Sways and Perception counters.

If you'd like to test which of these characters fits your playstyle best, you can check out how to unlock all of the characters above in our how to unlock all characters in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero guide.

True to his feats in both the Dragon Ball Super anime and manga, Ultra Instinct and UI -Sign- Goku are the only characters in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero capable of auto-dodging attacks without performing a Sonic Sway. But how can you do that? So that you can let your body take over, here's how to auto dodge with Ultra Instinct -Sign- and Ultra Instinct Goku in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

How to Auto Dodge with Ultra Instinct Goku in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

You can auto-dodge with both Ultra Instinct and Ultra Instinct -Sign- Goku in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero by simply letting go of your controller and not making any inputs, which will see Goku's instincts take over. Keep in mind that although the auto dodges will take effect against rush? strikes from both the front and the back, Goku will only be able to avoid standard strikes and ki blasts with it. As you can see b?elow, each dodge will also consume ki, so don't forget to pay close attention to your resources.

Why should you auto-dodge?

Even if not as efficient as a well-placed Sonic Sway, auto dodging will allow you to stop your opponent in their tracks while disabling their ability to perform heavy attacks, which demand contact. Performin?g it can also bait less experienced enemies into performing Smash attacks, and counter those looking to open you up with rush ki blasts. But don't go thinking that auto-dodging is the answer to everything, as we mentioned above, you will be vulnerable against beams, Rush Blasts??, charged attacks, and throws when performing it.

It's not an understatement to say that Afterimage Strike is both the most feared and frowned upon skill in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, as it allows characters to tu?rn even point-black Ultimate Blasts ine??ffective through auto High-Speed Evasions.

But don't be fooled, as even if undoubtedly powerful, there are indeed a few ways to counter the skill. Here's how to counter Afterimage Strike in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

How to counter Afterimage Strike in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

As you can guess, the first way to counter Afterimage Strike in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero is by stopping its activation, a feat you can accomplish by staying in your opponent's face through the use of ki blasts and rush attacks, and never backing off. If your opponent manages to activate the skill, then the best way to deal with it will be by activating your own and entering a battle of attr?ition.

In cases where the above is not a??n option, then it's time to play defensively and bide your time until the skill's uptime ends. You can check out a few ways to do that below:

  • By staying at mid to close range and focusing on performing High-Speed Evasions, Rush High-Speed Returns, Super Counters, Revenge Counters, and Sonic Sways, all while looking for grabbing opportunities. Do not be offensive, as all standard rush attacks will trigger evasions.
  • By using sequential ki blasts to keep your foe in check. To make this method viable, most players recommend using characters capable of instantly entering Sparking for its infinite ki reserve. Make sure to mix up your blasts so that your opponent won't be able to easily reflect them and gain the bars needed for another Afterimage Strike activation.

Goku performs a series of ki blasts and ilustrates one of the ways to deal with Afterimage Strike in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

What not to do against Afterimage Strike

Now that you know how to c??ounter the skill, here are a few things you should not for the love of Zen'oh do after your opponent activates Afterimage Strike:

  • Perform your Ultimate Blast: Like all beams, all Ultimate Blasts in the game (even the unguardable ones) will be auto-dodged and leave you open.
  • Try to lock your opponent with a Violent Rush combo: The rush will trigger the skill and leave you open from the back for an almost guaranteed combo.
  • Ki charge without an opening: Unless you have an Afterimage Strike of your own, stopping will give your opponent more than enough time to close in and take control of the match.

To make sure you are fully ready for whatever your enemies throw at you, I also highly recommend checking out how to Counter a Revenge Counter in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

Porunga is one of the three gods in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero ??who can make your wishes come true, and ??quite literally.

If you manage to gather seven Namekian Dragon Balls, you can summon Porunga to appear in front of you. Just like Shenron, h??e offers four different choices. While you're free to choose any of the four?? options, it's always better to opt for the best one when starting your adventures. In this article, I have ranked all four wishes from worst to best.

All Porunga wishes in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero ranked

While creating the tier list, I considered the viewpoint of a beginner. ?When you're just starting out in the game, extra Zeni is pretty useful, and for different reasons.

4. I want More Titles

This option might be a great choice if you're a completionist/have unlocked the entire roster. The titles you gain from Porunga are exclusive, and there is no other way to unlock them. It's a really cool showoff to your friends as well since getting Namekian Dragon Balls is challenging. Out of all the choices when it comes to titl??es, 'World Domination' is my favorite.

3. I Want You to Raise my Player Level

Raising your player level in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero has plenty of benefits. While you can always level up by p??laying the game, you can boost your growth with help from Porunga. One of the biggest be?nefits of leveling up is the availability of more items in the shop to buy (even including characters).

2. I Want More Zeni

Getting Zeni in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero isn't tricky, but they can be highly beneficial when you're just getting started. Compared to Shenron and Super Shenron, you get lesser Zeni from Porunga??. This might make the wishes seem less valuable, but they can be pretty useful in the short run.

1. I want Ability Items

Ability Items allow you to customize your characters and make them more potent during ba?ttles. The Ability Items offered by Porunga are exclusive to the god, and more importantly, they will help you save your Zeni in the process. You can then use your Zeni to unlock more characters from the shop. You can pick between four different items, and my favorite is Broly's Ring. You can wish for this item three times, and it's not available anywhere else for purchase.

In Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, you'll come across some mighty foes from time to tim?e, and Ultra Instinct Goku can be an absolute nightmare to deal with.

Without any doubt, the Ultra Instinct form in Goku is one of the strongest ones in the game, and it's not fun when you've to defeat that. You'll come across Ultra Instinct Goku in one of Jiren's episode battl??e campaigns, and completing the task can be a considerable challenge. Thankfully, you can ease your life by understanding a few tips and tricks that will make you?r job a lot simpler.

When do you fight Ultra Instinct Goku in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

You go up against Ultra Instinct Goku in the second last episode of Jiren's Sparking episode. Titled "The Defeated," this is the hardest fight I have come across so?? far. Before you can face up against Goku, you'll need to defeat Android 17, SSGSS Vegeta, and Golden Frieza.

Incidentally, you'll start your fight against Goku in his normal form. Right when you think about getting the better of him, Goku transforms into his Ultra Instinct form (yes, it's as dem?oralizing as it sounds).

How to defeat Ultra Instinct Goku in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

In Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, you can button-mash and defeat some opponents (at least in lower difficulty). Ultra Instinct Goku is not that opponent, and I haven't seen anyone dodge close attacks better. What makes him a bigger threat is the amount of damage?? done by his simple Ki blasts. Keeping these factors in mind, here's what you can do to defeat him with Jiren.

  • Your Sparking meter is your key since you won't want to try to do close attacks. But Goku won't stand and let you charge up, which makes it important for you to learn Instant Transmitting. That will allow you to get behind his back and send him flying across the map. This will allow you the space to charge up your Ki meter.
  • Use Jiren's Meditation technique to restore the health that you've lost. But make sure not to spam the ability, as it's pretty expensive. If you take substantial damage against Vegeta and company, restoring your health before facing Ultra Instinct Goku is a good idea. Do remember that the Meditation technique will not be available once Jiren transforms to his Full Power form.

Defeating Ultra Instinct Goku isn't easy - while these tips will work, you'll still need to use your skills to execute them. The chances of something going wrong are high, and you might find yourself in tough spots quite often. Feel free to restart if you feel that your plans/attempts to dodge damage early?? on have failed. That will save you time and energy, and you can avoid repeating the mistakes as well.

Vegeta is my second favorite character in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, and his Sparking episodes allow you to explore two unique alternate s?to?rylines.

Vegeta is one of the eight characters present in the Episode battle mode, and his main saga is pretty solid canonically. But if you want to enjoy different endings, there are two Sparking episode??s to explore - Paren?tal Bond and Number One Spot. Both alternate storylines require you to play the main saga and complete some additional objectives. Let's first take a look at how you can access Parental Bond.

How to unlock Vegeta's Parental Bond episode in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

In the Wind-Up Doll quest, you'll fight against Android 18. To unlock Parental Bond, you'll have to defeat Android 18 as quickly as possible. For such quests, I keep a timer of three minutes a??s a boundary. Additionally, you can't fully defeat Android 18, so you will? have to simply reduce her health.

Once you've defeated Android 18, you'll face Trunks in the next episode. You'll unlock an extra path towards the mai??n path if you fail against Trunks.

How to unlock Vegeta's Number One Spot episode in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

An image of Babidi In Dragon Ball Sparking Zero
Image via Bandai Namco

In the Wicked Heart episodes, you'll come across Babidi. If you want to not succumb to his Brainwashing, a hidden objective has to be complet??ed. To do so, you'll have to defeat Trunks in the Preparing for the World Tournament episode. You can't chan??ge the default difficulty setting and must not take too many hits from Trunks.

If you manage to complete the hidden objective successfully, you'll get the chance to withstand Babidi's Brainwashing and unlock the Number One Spot Sparking episode inside the game. The Number One Spot is an interesting storyline, but I like Parental Bond more. Unlike characters like Goku and Future Trunks, Vegeta doesn't have a thi??rd Sparking episode to unlock.

As he should be, Ultra Instinct Goku is by far one of the best characters in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, as he pairs one of the best skill selections in the game with a damage output?? rivaling that of the all-mighty fusions.

True to that, getting the character as quickly as possible can be considered a must. Here's how to unlock Ultra Instinct Goku in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

How to unlock Ultra Instinct Goku in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

You can unlock both Ultra Instinct and Ultra Instinct -Sign- Goku in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero by purchasing the latter for 120,000 Zeni at the game's shop. Although he will be available for sale no matter your Player Level, you can also get Ultra Instinct -Sign- Goku by heading t?o Jiren's main storyline (or Episode Battle Saga) and completing the Saiyans Awaken stage.

If you are out of Zeni, you can easily get 120,000 by completing Episode Battle stages for the first time, as each of them will reward you with 15,000. Completing tournaments or ranked matches can ?also net you a good amount fast. I don't r??ecommend asking for Zeni after summoning either of the game's dragons.

How to unlock and complete Saiyans Awaken in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

Once you complete Goku's and thus unlock Jiren's Sparking Battle Saga, you can unlock the Saiyans Awaken stage by triggering his True Strength Sparking Episode and then continuing forward until you are tasked with defeating Ultra Instinct -Sign- Goku?? and Hit.

You can unlock True Strength by selecting "Wait and See" when facing Kale during Saiyan Rampage, as well as make the Saiyans Awaken fight way easier? by using Meditate to recover health and spam??ming the game's deadly against the CPU Violent Rush + Ultimate Blast combo.

The Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero stages may not be as exciting as those from FighterZ, but they still take us back to the famous scenes of the anime series. There are locations like the Hyperboli??c Time Chamber and Land of the Kais to take the action??.

Every Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero stage, listed

There are plenty of Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero stages to choose from. The base game includes 12 stages at launch with variants based on attendance of the fight and the time of day. They inclu??de the f?ollowing:

  • Planet Namek
  • Open Field

    • Open Field (Evening)
    • Open Field (Night)

  • Rocky Land

  • Cell Games Arena

    • Cell Games Arena (Evening)
    • Cell Games Arena (Night)

  • City Ruins
  • Destroyed Planet Namek

What happens on these stages in the anime?

The Hyperbolic Time Chamber is a location prominent within the series as Goku, his son Gohan, and other Z-fighters train to overcome incoming threats like Cell and Buu. One year inside the ?chamber equals one day outside, so th??at leaves a lot of time for our heroes to train, spar with each other, and become stronger.

The Cell Games Arena is where Gohan and Cell have their fateful fight in Dragon Ball Z. It's where the teenager performs the ??Father-Son Kamehameha to defeat Cell and saves the w?orld.

Planet Namek is where the events of the Frieza saga takes place, where Vegeta, Gohan, and Krillin str??uggle to survive as they search for the Dragon Balls. Goku eventually helps them and turns into a Super Saiyan against the mighty F??rieza.

Lastly, the Land of the Kais is where Goku performs a Spirit Bomb to rid us of the frightening Kid Buu, and the Rocky Lands is l?ikely based on the initial battles between Goku and Vegeta in the Saiyan arc.

Goku is undoubtedly one of the main characters in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, and there are plenty of storylines to enjoy.

While Goku has a dedicated ep??isodic story, he has three different Sparking episodes. These are alternate storylines that don't follow the canon and allow you to explore?? what-if scenarios. Unlike the main episode, the three Sparking episodes remain locked. There are specific tasks you'll need to complete in order to unlock the alternate storylines and progress through them.

First, let's take a look a??t how to unlock ??the Side by Side episode.

How to unlock Side by Side in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

The Side by Side is a fantastic storyline where Goku stands up against Raditz and all the fellow Saiyans. To trigger this episode, you'll have to reject Piccolo's help to fight Raditz. Instead, you'll have to acce?pt Krillin's help for the same job, which is then followed by the remaining episodes.

The fi???ght against Vegeta is a true sight to behold for every hardcore Dragon Ball fan.

How to unlock Pushing the Limit in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

Unlocking Pushing the Limit is pretty similar to triggering Sid??e by Side. In Side by Side, you choose to take help from Krillin to defeat Raditz. To activate Pushing the Limit, you'll have to accept Piccolo's help, but Raditz has to be defeated before Piccolo executes the Special Beam Cannon. You should ideally target to defeat Raditz within three minutes, as that's a safe number to consider.

This episode features two memorable contests between Goku? ?and Vegeta, and the former also faces Nappa.

How to unlock The Changed Future in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

You can only unlock this Sparking episode by making decent progress in Goku's main saga, where you end up going against Cell. You'll get the choice to face off against Cell during Piccolo's fight against Android 17. You'll have to defeat Cell with?out a single hit from t?he Solar Flare.

The last Sparking episode is?? all about Goku's trysts against the Androids. It's not among the favorite alternate storylines for sure, but you might?? like it. Additionally, Goku's main saga also has several smaller branches, so make sure to try them out after finishing the main storyline for additional rewards and alternate endings.

Goku Black's Sins, Gods and Punishment can be considered one of the hardest Battle Episode stages in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, as it tasks you with taking a Final Hope Slash (Future Trunks's Ultimate ?Blast) following a battle against Vegito Blue.

But as defeating Vegito forcibly ends the stage and unlocks a branching path, how can you make Trunks join the fray and perform his trump card? Here's how to take a Final Hope Slash and unlock the true ending of Goku Black's story in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

How to take a Final Hope Slash in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

You can take a Final Hope Slash during Sins, Gods and Punishment in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero by surviving the fight against Vegito until Zamasu says "A perfect and p??ure multiverse made c??lean by Zamasu's hand!". That will prompt Trunks to take the stage and perform the move after entering Sparking Mode.

Trunks and Fused Zamasu face each other.

For an exact time frame, I had to keep up with Vegito for two minutes until th?e line was delivered. Keep in mind that it is also possible for Trunks to either join the fray a little early or several seconds after the set time. ??The same can be said for the timing of his Final Hope Slash, so make sure to stay sharp.

How to Survive against Vegito in Sins, Gods and Punishment

If you are having trouble keeping Vegito in a stalemate given his constant use of High-Speed Evasions, counters, and Ultimate Blast combos, you can do so by staying away from him while circling the area with consecutive Dragon Dashes. You can perform a Dragon Dash in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero by ?holding R2/RT and X/A while tilting your right analog stick?? in any direction.

When doing the ??above, make sure not to double-tap X/A, as doing so will force you to perform a Z-Burst Dash and fly toward Vegito??'s back.

Sparking Zero's What If? scenarios offer a refreshing, unique take on the Dragon Ball series, paving alternate pathways within its lore. It's opened the door to many new character storylines, including Goku, Vegeta, Jiren, and many more.

Even if you've experienced them all in Episode and Bonus Battles, there are still plenty of other alternate storylines that players have created themselves. And, after spending some time with these crafted narratives, I've discovered quite a few that could turn into their very own DB spin-off. So, without further ado, here are the best Sparking Zero Custom Battle What Ifs that I wish were canon to the ser??ies.

Mr. Satan vs. The Gods

Every time I play as Hercule, I can't help but laugh at his whimsical nature. His punches are mediocre at best, and his Ki-charging is merely a spotlight shining down on him just to make him feel a little mo??re like a star. It doesn't make him the greatest of fighters, but some players have changed that with the Mr. Satan vs. The Gods Custom Battles.

In this timeline, it is Hercule who reigns supreme, and all cower at the sight of his mighty mustache. This is all because of his triumph against Gods, such as Fused Zamasu, J??iren, and Goku Ultra Instinct. This What If scenario may seem a bit far-fetched, but it's probably one of the most entertaining e?xperiences I've had so far.

Goku saves Future Gohan

The Dragon Ball Z timeline has a few of its own alternate paths, including the death of Future Gohan in the multiverse. Android 17 and 18 brought him down durin?g Future Trunks' saga, in which Gohan played the significant role of his mentor. Although this journey led to a saddening demise, the Side by Side Custom Battle features a new take where Goku saves his son. In this scenario, we get to see a different outcome, one where Gohan's life is spared, and the bond between father and son is strengthened.

It's nice to see Goku making the effort to help his son since he, you know, isn't the best father. Of course, I don't blame him for what originally happened, considering that he himself died in this timeline. At least with this scenario, everyone, for the most part, comes out? alive, and Future Trunks can save hi??mself the guilt of not being there for his master.

Bardock and Nappa band together to defeat Frieza Force

Bardock

ID: 4-357-312-376 (PC)

Even though Bardock could be considered a villain, with all the bad he's done as a? Saiyan, I still felt pretty bad for the guy. He never really stood a chance against Frieza in light of his lower po??wer level and the fact that no one was there beside him. However, this Custom Battle features a new story version, where Bardock and Nappa fight against the infamous Frieza Force.

It makes me wonder whether Bardock would have lived i?f someone had at least joined his side. Having someone strong like Nappa could certainly beat the od??ds, so this scenario isn't entirely impossible.

Jiren vs. Broly

Jiren vs. Broly

ID: 4-988-481-724 (PS5)

The Jiren and Broly Custom Battle expands on the concept first introduced in the spin-off Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultra God Mission. This time, Jiren helps Goku fight against Super's Broly??, leading to an epic brawl between the Legendary Super Saiyan and t?he most powerful Pride Trooper member.

We already got some form of this fight in the Heroes manga, but it's not considered canon as a spin-off series. Fortunately, this Sparking Zero What If helps compensate for that by giving us one heck of a show. It ultimately feels like a battle of Tanks, as the two characters are pretty beefy. I just wish we could see this in the canon timeline to officially confirm t??his fight's winner.

Gohan goes against his dads

Gohan

ID: 1-707-283-125 (Xbox)

Gohan vs?. Dads?! Custom Battle gives us a sneak peek into what would happen if Gohan (Adult) went against his fathers. I know Gohan technically only has one dad, but come on, it was Piccolo who raised him during his youth. Heck, even Piccolo went on to babysit his daughter Pam, which definitely gives this beloved Namekian a dad title (Goku would never).

The Dragon Ball Z series offered a brief taste of a fight like this when Gohan first began training. Since then, we haven't necessarily seen a battle between Gohan, Goku, and Piccolo. Fortunately, there's still time for this showdown to become canon, especially in the Super saga.

Trunks travels back in time to the Dragon Ball era

Trunks and Master Roshi

ID: 1-156-210-909 (PS5)

Longtime Dragon Ball series fans will likely recollect Trunk's debut in the DBZ saga. But what if he had arrived much earlier during Goku's youth instead? The Fight! Past's Mightiest Warriors quest, thankfully, answers this question as Trunks goes ag??ainst notable characters in the World Tournament.

As a big fan of the Dragon Ball era, I love seeing the clash of the two worlds, especially since Trunks happens to be one of my favorite characters. It's also not much of a far-fetched idea, considering that Trunks has traveled through time in both Z and Super.

Goku retaliates against everyone in Ultra Instinct form

Goku Ultra Instinct vs everyone
Screenshot by Destructoid

ID: 4-715-463-463 (PS5)

Instead of Jiren fighting against everyone, this What If scenario makes Goku the antagonist of the Tournament of Power arc. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised i??f this happened since this form separates the user's consciousness from? their body.

In this fight, Goku battles most of his allies and loved ones, from Gohan to Trunks to Piccolo. It's intriguing to see it play out this way, almost similar to Goku Black's sinister ways. Plus, it ?would make for a pretty intense battle, testing the strength of the Super Saiyans and a Namekian against the OP Ultra Instinct.

Dragon Ball GT characters take down Goku Black

I just had to share some Dragon Ball GT love through this distinct Goku Black saga. With this What If, Future Trunks calls upon Vegeta and Goku in GT rather than Super??. It's a chance to see how Goku Black's R??osé power holds up against the top-tier Super Saiyan 4.

The Custom Battle even shows another intriguing side storyline regarding what would happen i??f Super Saiyan 4 Fusion and Fused Zamasu were pitted against each other. Although it would be unlikely to see a situation like this in the canon timeline, I'm still hoping it will happen one day.

Goku's Protégé vs. Vegeta's pupil

Uub vs. Cabba

ID: 0-659-438-611 (PS5)

Over the years, many Dragon Ball fans have pushed for a battle between Vegeta's protégé, Cabba, and Goku's pu??pil, Uub. It's the ultimate test to see who's the better teacher and student, a concept that doesn't happen too often in the series.

I'm astonished that a fight between Cabba and Uub hasn't already occurred in the canon timeline. But maybe the many Sparking Zero What I??fs could help set the stage for an epic battle?? later on.

Gohan and Cell work together to save the world

Among the Custom Battles of Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, one collaboration between Gohan and Cell stood out the most. These two are best known for their legendary showdown in the Cell Games, and now they've taken on a new form in this wild?? What If. What adds a unique twist to this battle is the fact that Frieza and Cooler are their opponents, throwing yet another unexpect??ed element into the mix.

While it is strange to see Cell and Gohan being all friendly with each other, I sorta dig it. Now, I wo??uld be down for a buddy spin-off series where the two save the world toget?her.

Dragon Ball: DAIMA is the most recent anime series based off of the iconic manga by the late Akira Toriyama, and its recent premiere already took the world by storm. Naturally, Bandai Namco took this as an opportunity to add its characters to more than one Dragon Ball video game.

Firstly, there's the recently released 3D arena fighter, DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO. Bandai Namco had already announced that Goku (Mini) is going to be added to the roster a few weeks ago, but now the company pos??ted a new tra??iler regarding the contents of the second DLC in the game's Season Pass.

//youtu.be/_N0h9aJrBDc

This will add two fighters from Dragon Ball DAIMA to the game: Vegeta (Mini) and Glorio, the new character who made his debut in the first episode of the show. Unfortunately, Bandai Namco didn't reveal any in-game footage or a release date for nei??ther of them.

The Season Pass of Sparking! ZERO is shaping up to be really exciting, with this trailer reminding us that the Season Pass will not only add Gamma 1 and Gamma 2 from Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero in its first DLC, but also that there is also going to be a third DLC, although Bandai Namco will announce which c??haracters will be featured in it on a later date.

Dragon Ball: DAIMA is also appearing in two older DBZ games

//youtu.be/h-vtDtMF-TY

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot has been getting constant updates and DLCs since its original release back in 2020, and now it's time for Dragon: Ball DAIMA to make its appearance in this beloved action RPG. Bandai Namco announced the Adventure Through The Demon Realm DLC, which will partially cover th?e events of the show.

What's especially interesting is that this is only Part 1, hinting t??hat Bandai Namco will release a Part 2 in the near future. It's most likely that the company split this campaign into 2 parts as to not spoil the entire plot of the new anime.

//youtu.be/oBHNBq4Hd30

Lastly, Goku (Mini) will also arrive to Dragon Ball: Xenoverse 2 as a DLC character, alongs??ide a new set of equippable skills based off of him for the game's customizable avatar. There's also going to be a Free Trial available for those?? who may want to try him out, although Bandai Namco didn't confirm a concrete release date for neither the DLC or the Free Trial.

This was definitely the most shocking announcement of the bunch, seeing as Dragon Ball: Xenoverse 2 is an action RPG from 2016 th??at is getting updates a?nd DLC packs to this day, which is keeping the game and its community alive.

We are getting so much Dragon Ball content in 2024!

With the release of Sparking! ZERO and Dragon Ball: DAIMA, this is definitely a great moment to be a Dragon Ball fan. Furthermore, multiple simultaneous collaborations l??ike these show how this franchise can hav?e perfect brand synergy.

It seems Shueisha, Toei Animation and Bandai Namco are aware that most Dragon Ball fans don't play just one game so, instead of prioritizing their most recent release, they decided to add new content to games that are relatively older. It wouldn't be a surprise if these companies already have plans to add DLC from later episodes of Dragon Ball: DAIMA to these games in the near future, as Toei Animation releases ne??w episodes with new characters, ??new transformations and new battles.

A new update will fly over to Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero in late October, bringing several signif?icant gameplay and character p??erformance fixes.

One of the first major changes we can expect is the much-anticipated Yajirobe nerf. I never thought that Yajirobe, of all people, would need a nerf (I mean, he is one of the weakest characters), but I guess you always have to expect the unexpected with the Dragon Ball series. This adjustment comes after many player feedback reports ?of him being?? way too OP due to the robust healing effects of his Senzu Beans ability.

If you aren't familiar with this skill, it allows Yajirobe to heal himself completely, keeping him in the fight for much longer. The ability instills a major unfair advantage in online battles, where some players have even spammed it to gain unlimited health.

In light of this, the Dragon Ball Games page promises to introduce an "adjustment to Yajirobe's stats." It also mentions that the Classic controls, the standard style of Budokai Tenkaichi, will ge?t a fix for online matches. These controls have sometimes become un??responsive during battles, ultimately leaving the player in the dust. Due to this ongoing problem, some players needed to resort to the Standard style, which doesn't have as many issues.

On top of these adjustments, you can anticipate changes in the Episode Battle's difficulty levels. The update will address "certain stages" set to the lower difficulty, seemingly making them feel more accessible in terms of gameplay. I know I've run into this issue previously (I'm looking at you, Great Ape Vegeta), where battles still felt pretty challenging even with a lower-difficult??y active.

Given that Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is in its early stages, there wi??ll likely be plenty more updates to come. There are cer??tainly many other things to tackle, whether it be problems with Xbox servers or input delays. For now, we can look forward to this upcoming patch by the end of October.

Dragon Ball Sparking Zero's Ranked mode is the ultimate test of your arena fighting skills, and it'??s also a great way to get better at the game.

There are plenty of different modes to enjoy in the latest Dragon Ball titles, including offline showdowns and episodic sagas. While some are targeted towards c??asual fun, others will allow you to relive iconic moments from the Dragon Ball saga. Ranked, in comparison, is quite different from the other modes, and there's a strong emphasis on team building.

All Ranked modes in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

The Ranked? mode can be broken down into two types.

  • Single Battle: It's a one-on-one battle where you and your opponent select a character and then go up against each other. This isn't my favorite option in Ranked, but it's a good choice if you want some quick action or have only a few minutes to spare.
  • DP Battle: DP Battle allows you to construct a team with multiple fighters, and you can have at most five characters. But you can't select just about anyone; you'll need to make your squad out of 15 DP.

That's all when it comes to the Ranked mode in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero. While Single Battles don't rely much on strategy, the same c??an't be said about DP Battles.

Best tips for DP Battles in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero Ranked mode

To shine in DP Battles, the main idea is to get a balance between the number of fighters you're using and how effective they're in fights. The first thing to avoid is characters in their strongest forms. For example, a fighter like Goku in his SSGSS form will cost 8 DP, while his normal form will only cost 5 DP?. You can easily power him up in a fight to unlock his SSGSS form without locking the extra DP.

I find using three great fighters a sweet spot, but you can also opt for 4 of them. Out of the 4, any two will share the bulk of winning the fight, while the remaining two will serve a supporting role. You could use five fighters?, but you'll end up without mid-tier fighters, and frankly, you shouldn't require five of them to win a battle.

Note that not all characters can transform, so check out our guide on how to transform during a battle.

Whether you are playing ranked matches, facing friends, or testing your might in tournaments, knowing how to vanish is a must if you want to find success and truly emulate what a Dragon Ball battle is all about in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

Although many might mistake the above for the ability to teleport, they are not quite the same. So that you can win all loops and keep your opponent guessing, here are all the ways to vanish in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

How to Vanish in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

A key maneuver, you can perform a standard defensive vanish move (or High-Speed Evasion) in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero by pressing guard —R1/RB (Standard) or O/B (Classic)at the moment an attack is about to hit you. Co?ntrary to what you might think, given its ability to evade combos, pro?jectiles, and all non-Ultimate Blasts, performing the technique will not consume any Ki or Skill bars.

Apart from the above, you can also vanish by performing Rush High-Speed Movements, Rush High-Spe??ed Returns, Z-Counters, Perfect Smashes, as well as Vanishing Assaults and Lightning/Vanishing Attacks, the former of which will allow you to vanish mid-combo. You can check out how to perform each of the above, as well as how to have your character automatically perform High-Speed Evasions, be?low.

How to Perform Rush High-Speed Movements and Returns

A variation of High-Speed Evasion that allows you to vanish mid-combo, you can perform a Rush High-Speed Movement in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero by holding your right analog stick in?? any direction and pressing guard after a rush strike. Simply pressing guard can also work.

Made ?to counter the above, you can perform a Rush High-Speed Return by pressing guard at the moment your opponent reappears following a Rush High-Speed Movement. ?As you can see below, the move will allow you to turn the tables by performing a vanishing smash in any direction of your choosing.

Goku performs a Rush High-Speed Return in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

Unlike High-Speed Evasion, both moves above will cost 1/5 of a ki bar. Make sure to also keep in mind that although all ki-wielding characters in the game can evade, a few don't have Rush High-S??peed moves in their ar?senals.

How to Perform Z-Counters

You can perform a Z-Counter in Sparking Zero by pressing either R1/RB (if playing on Standard) or O/B (if on Classic) at the moment you are about to be hit with a follow-up attack of any kind. Th??e move will work just like a Rush High-Speed Return but won't cost any resources.

Gohan performs a Z-Counter in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

How to Perform Perfect Smashes in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

Although not classified as a vanishing attack, performing a Perfect Smash will allow you to perform a High-Speed Movement before reappearing at point-blank range and sending your opponent f?lying. To do that, simply let go of â—?X at the moment your character flashes during a charged Sma??sh Attack. The move won't work when far away from an enemy.

How to Perform Vanishing Assaults and Vanishing/Lightning Attacks

You can perform a Vanishing Assault in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero by pressing â—?X/X+A. Differently from all of the previously shown moves, the technique wil??l change based on your distance from your target. For example, performing it close to an opponent will allow you to reappear behind them, while performing it at mid and long-range will see you either close in and perform a rush strike or simply reapp?ear a few meters forward.

A Vanishing Attack, on the other?? hand, can be performed by simply pressing â–?Y after performing a Smash Attack. The number of sequential Vanishing Attacks you can perform will be capped at two but can be enhanced by equipping the Vanishing Break Ability Item. Lastly, you can perform a Lightning Attack by pressing O/B after a Smash Attack, Z-Counter, or Vanishing Attack, which will see your character send your opponent to the floor.

How to automatically perform High-Speed Evasions in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

If your pick has access to them, you can trigger a one-time auto evade by activating the Wind Sense and Arferimage skills in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero. You can also unlock the ability to perform as?? many automatic High-Speed Evasions as possible within a set time by activating Afterimage Strike. While performing the former two skills will c?ost two Skill points, Afterimage Strike will demand three, no matter your character of choice. When faced with sequential blasts, you can unlock the ability to automatically evade them after the first successful attempt by equipping Mirage.

Now that you know how to vanish from your enemy's sight, don't forget to also check out how to unlock all of Vegeta's Branching Paths in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

SSJ4 Gogeta is one of the most exciting characters to use in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, but he's one of th??ose who remain locked at f?irst.

While the latest Dragon Ball fighter has over 180 chara?cters to choose from, many of them are locked. Thankfully, you can unlock almost all of them, inclu??ding Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta, by just playing the game. However, the unlocking method often varies from character to character; hence, knowing the steps will help you save time and energy.

How to unlock SSJ4 Gogeta in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

Unlike characters like Goku (Mini), you don't need to own the Deluxe or Ultimat?e Edition to get SSJ4 Gogeta. In fact, once you go to Zeno's Stamp Book, you should be able to see exactly wha??t needs to be done to unlock Gogeta's Super Saiyan 4 version.

  • Select and play ten battles with Gogeta.
  • This can be done in offline or online battles, and contests with the AI also count.
  • Once your ten battles with Gogeta are complete, Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta will be unlocked automatically and added to your roster.

A second meth?od is also available, which allows you to unlock SSJ4 Gogeta from the shop. For this method, you must have a player level of 10 or more. Once you've reached player level 10, the character should be available for purchase from the shop.

This isn't my preferred method, as you'll need to spend 120,000 Zeni. Spending Zeni on a character that can be unlocked for free makes no sense. While getting Zeni in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero isn't difficult at all, it's better to save them fo?r items/characters that can't be unlocked by another method.
