After what felt like a lifetime, console and mobile players finally received the long-awaited Stardew Valley 1.6 update a couple of days ago. Well, technically it's version 1.6.9 to account for the latest patch, but it comes with everything that came before it and th??at PC fans have been enjoying for months now.

However, there appears to be a small issue when it comes to performance. According to a recent post on X from developer Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone, there is a solution to those playing the latest version of Stardew Valley.

//twitter.com/ConcernedApe/status/1853889827294650577

Until a more permanent fix can be sent out, Barone suggests anyone experiencing performance problems should "remove all hats from pets." No, this is apparently not a joke. Our own Paula kindly confirmed this to be a gen??uine piece of advice ?to the issue.

For real

If you're new to Stardew Valley and not sure what the advice entails, you're advised to "try putting a different hat on your pet," which will then "remove the original hat first." When pressed for further details in an excuse me, what? kind of way, the developer had this to say:

There's rumors of a strange rash affecting pets' ears in Zuzu City and we just want to make sure those ears?? can breat?h [sic] for a few days.

The 1.6.9 update went live a couple of days ago, bringing with it new features and changes. According to the patch notes, the game now gives you the ability to "place beds and sleep inside any constructed buildings that allow furniture," adds in new Easter e?ggs, balances some aspects, and...you know what, there's too much to list here. Best to read the changelog itself.

The mobile port of Stardew Valley also now comes loaded with a hidden and experimental multiplayer feature. Instructions on how you can access it can be found here.

For those of us who are playing Stardew Valley on console or mobile, it feels like the big 1.6 update has been a long-time coming. The PC version of the game got the enormous patch back in March, with a changelog that makes for a rather extensive read.

When last we heard about the patch for consoles, Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone said the work was very much at the forefront of their mind. Now,?? a recent post ?from the developer shows that this is still the case, but the patch is taking so long, it's detracted from working on their next project.

//twitter.com/ConcernedApe/status/1828889918036476202

The message on X shows that Barone is more than aware that 1.6 is taking a lot longer than they imagined, admitting it would be a "huge relief" if it was ready today. However, it isn't, though it's still very much being worked on. This also means the developer has been unable to keep working on their new game, saying "I have not touched Haunted Chocolatier in a long time because I am committed to finalizing Stardew 1.6 first."

But they are grateful for the patience

Barone g?oes on to show gratitude to those who have been patient these past few months. The post on X ends by saying "to those who are patient and understanding, thank you, you make life better and reduce stress, and I appreciate it" before finishing with "back to wo??rk."

However, one user did show signs of irritation when they questioned why the update for Stardew Valley came to PC first, adding that it "kinda f***ing sucks." However, Barone, remaining calm and professional, explains that the PC update was done first in order to b??etter quash any bugs early on before console users recei?ved it.

They go on to say that, on console at least, "it takes much longer to get a patch into the hands of the players" and that it makes sense to "have all major issues resolved before submitting to consoles." The message reads loud and clear: they didn't anticipate running into problems, saying the console patch is ta?king a long while partly due to some "technical issues with the porting process."

Still, many will still be wondering when Stardew Valley 1.6 wi??ll be arriving on the PlayStation and Xbox, as well as on mobile. These things evidently take time, but it's good to see the developer is being as transparent as they can, and that most of us are remaining patient, even though PC users are alr?eady on version 1.6.8, which dropped in April.

When last we heard about the Stardew Valley 1.6 update for the console ports, we were told to have a little more patience while the developer made progress on it. Well, it looks as t?hough we're still waiting, but Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone has assured us that things are still in motion.

In fact, in a recent post on Twitter/X, the creator has said that it's "on my mind every minute," in reference to the mobile ports and the next PC update. We can only assume that this also encompassed the big patch that's inbound for cons??oles, though that's not specifically mentioned.

//twitter.com/ConcernedApe/status/1815272546130161821

Barone then adds that announcements will be made when there is "meaningful news" to dole out, such as a release date, etc. The mobile versions of Stardew Valley have?? been particularly front and center on the developer's mind, saying they've been working on it "?every day."

Stardew Valley 1.7 when?

With talk of a new PC update currently in the pipeline, it's tempting to think that this could be version 1.7. However, in a response to someone asking on X, Barone has made it clear that this will be more like 1.6.9, but we're not sure what that update will ??come with.

Additionally, Barone has also said that they will "never charge money for a DLC or update for as long as I live," encouraging anyone readin?g to "screencap this and shame me if I ever violate this oath." You heard it straight from the horse's mouth, folks??.

At this stage, we're not clear on when the big 1.6 update will begin rolling out on console, but we can make the assumption that it's on ConcernedApe's mind along with whatever the other ideas they're currently working on. In short: things are still happening for Stardew Valley es??pecially the mobile ports and it's comforting to know the developer ??has no intention of nickel and diming us.

It's no secret that Stardew Valley is the responsibility of a small developer. Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone was busy trying to get the hotly anticipated 1.6 update out for PC, which finally went live in March. Since then, they'v??e been promising patches for the console and mobile ports of the game, though they haven't? emerged yet.

Patience is very much appreciated from Barone, and a recent post on Twitter/X is keeping us in the loop on Stardew Valley 1.6 for console and mobile.? The latest is that the developer is "doing everything within my power to have the ports ready as s??oon as possible."

//twitter.com/ConcernedApe/status/1790396655054848363

There's still ??no release date yet, but the fact of the matter is: "the ports require extra work beyond the PC version." The important thing is that it's being worked on, but being a small outfit, it's understandable that it takes time to deliver huge updates.

Also...

In the meantime, PC users will have ??another patch coming their way soon. The post above goes on to say that more bug fixes are in the pipeline. The game is already on version 1.6.6, so it sounds like 1.6.7 is hopefully being sent out soon.

Stardew Valley is one of the most successful games on the indie scene. Released in 2016, and with a current Steam review score of "Overwhelmingly Positive," Barone's life simu??lator has been a breath of fresh air, offer??ing a chill gameplay environment in an idyllic and colorful setting.

The 1.6 update does add a huge amount of new content and some changes to the game, which is why conso??le and mobile players are s??o keen to get their hands on it. Rest assured, Barone is on the case, and it'll be ready when it's ready.

Back in March, Stardew Valley creator Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone released the long-awaited 1.6 update for the farming sim sensation. The patch was nothing short of mega, adding tons to do for veterans and newcomers alike. Seriously. Just try not getting an aching scroll finger checking out the changelog.

Unfortunately, at the time, it was only available on PC. Barone has made it clear that the console and mobile ports of the game are still being worked on, but it's going to take a bit more time. It's completely understandable, seeing as Stardew Valley is a one-person project.

//twitter.com/ConcernedApe/status/1783944693434486794

However, many will be wondering where version 1.6 is or how far along it's come. PC players are already on 1.6.6, which means if you're on another platfo??rm, you're already several versions behind.

Where is the Stardew Valley 1.6 console update?

When the latest update for PC went li??ve on April 26, Barone linked to the patch notes, which outlined the additional changes and bug fixes that had been implemented. Along with this, there was a clear message that the "console and mobile ports are still in progress," with a thank-you message to those who have been patient.

This appears to be the last time the developer spoke about the update o?n non-PC systems. As a result, it's impossible to know at what stage it's at or when it's likely to release.

It's also important to know that Barone has been pretty forthcoming in telling fans that patience is needed regarding updates and new content. As it stands, version 1.6 is in the pipeline for console and mobile versions of Stardew Valley. It's just a case of waiting. However, I am going to go ahead and assume it'll be v.1.6.x by the time it's released, putting it on ?par with PC.

After more than eight years, Stardew Valley is still a shining beacon in what many would otherwise consider a pretty dismal time for the gaming industry. The fact that the long-awaited update 1.6 was recently pushe?d out for the game accounts for a sudden boost in popularity. It's even doing well on the Steam Deck.

As noted by the official Deck account on Twitter/X (admittedly on April 1, but we've been assured this isn't a joke), Stardew Valley tops the list of games on the portable PC i??n terms of playtime.

There doesn't appear to be any specifics about how well it's bested the competition, but it's beaten out LocalThunk's highly praised poker game Balatro. Perhaps it's just me, but I haven't heard of this game until now, it must be doing something right to come second on the list. It's also showing as Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam, so what do I know?

Balatro: a purple desk with a series of playing cards at the top.

What else made it on the list for most-played Steam Deck games for March?

Despite how popular the game has been and continues to be Stardew Valley still had some stiff competition. According to the post, there were some other notable gam??es that made it on the Steam Deck list for March. Many of them are the ones you'd expect.

For example: The number four spot is Baldur's Gate 3. Now, I'd wager most of you reading this could easily see that coming a mile off. Maybe a few of you expected it to be higher. It was released last August and it hasn't had any?? major updates since February, so it's fair to say being number four is impressive all the same.

//twitter.com/OnDeck/status/1774893919480000659

Then there's Helldivers 2, which is sitting pretty at the number three spot. Again, this will not be a huge shock. However, given that it hasn't been verified for the Deck, it is quite surprising to see it so high on the list. For those who don't know, a "Verified" game (as opposed to one that's la??beled as "Playable") is one that will run on the device but could be lacking certain functionality or have stability issues.

We're also seeing the likes of Grand Theft Auto 5, Skyrim, and Red Dead Redemption 2 at numbers 11, 14, and 15, respectively. These are games that have been out for a very long time, and in fact have pretty much been left behind by their respective developers, aside from a few patches here and there. Still, they're pretty much staples at this point. Skyrim in particular is one game that just does not seem to want to ??let go.

We can also see Palworld doing pretty well at number seven. There's a name I'd wager many of you probably got sick of hearing at one po?int. It's still going strong, especially as it's still in Early Access, but it's ??fair to say it's definitely lost some steam these past few weeks.

Will Stardew Valley still reign supreme on the Steam De??ck chart ?for April? Only (play)time will tell.

With the 1.6 update recently rolling out for the PC version of Stardew Valley, many of you will h?ave been basking in all th??at delicious new content.

Actually, I'm surprised anyone is reading this instead of leisurely skipping through Ferngill Republic. If you are here (first of all, thanks), then you're probably wondering about the mod situation. When the new patch was sent out, there may have been some concerns that any mods you had installed for the game would be immediately rendered non-compatible. I did a story recently about how Nexus Mods was asking content creators to ?make sure they were prepared for the big 1.6 push, adding that a "considerable chunk of mods will be broken" post-update.

//twitter.com/ConcernedApe/status/1769797473613008995

Of course, many of them will still be working and/or have been made to run on the new version. Still, if? you're the kind of person that enjoys playing the game with a ton of modificatio?ns, it's best to make sure you know which ones will work and which won't.

How to check if a mod is compatible

Probably the place to get your fan-made Stardew Valley downloads fr??om is the aforementioned Nexus Mods. If you're not familiar with it (you're reading this so you probably are, but you never know), it's a huge repository for custom mods made by the community that caters to all whims and tastes (yes, that includes NSFW mods).

But before you go gathering a load of them up for your 1.6 playthrough, you need to make sure you're filtering for compa??tibility.? Fortunately, Nexus does have this option.

First, you need to head to the Stardew Valley mod page (a-doy) where you'll find the main section. Partway down, you'll see a small link to the right that says "Explore All Mods." Click on this to reveal a more c??omprehe?nsive list. If you don't have a premium account with the website, you should see 20 items on the page by default.

Stardew Valley: a screenshot from Nexus Mods showing where to access the
Screenshot via Destructoid.

Once you're there, yo?u'll see several drop-down menus, such as "Time," "Sort By," and "Order." Directly beneath this is the "Refine Results" bar with an o?range arrow on the right-hand side. Guess what? Click it, yo.

Now, you'll see a rather large drop-down appear, which has a number of options to select. This is where you can begin refining the results for the mods you want. ?This can include finding things that are related to the audio, items, interior, fishing, or just the general gameplay mechanics.

Your mileage may vary on this, but my Nexus Mods already has a number of filters applied in the "Attribu?tes" column. As such, I'm getting 14,391 mods listed in total. As I said, you may see something slight??ly different, but essentially, this is the list that we're interested in.

Stardew Valley: screenshot from Nexus Mods showing how to filter for 1.6 compatible mods.
Screenshot via Destructoid.

Scroll all the way down to the bottom of "Attributes" until you come across the "Version 1.6 Compatible" option. Make sure this is checked and that every other option in this list is deselected. Then press "Apply Filters." Boom. Now we're only seeing Stardew Valley mods that are working with the new update.

Eric Barone did post a tweet a few days ago (linked above) before the ?patch started rolling out saying that "a ton of mods are already updated for 1.6." According to my Nexus filter results, there are 2??,440 out of a possible 14,000 mods. So while a lot are now working, there's still some work to be done, but content is being updated all the time.

Barone also very kindly posted a link to a mod compatibility page, which gives you a handy, color-coded list of the ones that are working and the ones that are currently broken. If you arrange this l?ist by order of compatibility, it will give you a visual clue of which ones are safe to use, as well as direct links to their respective download pages.

Over time, most mods will eventually be tweaked to make them work on the new version of Stardew. This is just the nature of modding, unfortunately, so it's best to make sure the ones you have or want are working so you, too, can have a giant, floating penis fo??r your playth?rough. No joke. No, I'm not posting the link to that.

Even those of you who don't play Stardew Valley will almost certainly be aware that the big 1.6 update went live yesterday. It a?dds a ton of new? content to the game, seemingly well worth the wait. As such, it will surprise exactly zero people to learn that this has resulted in a massive boost in the game's popularity.

As noted by SteamDB, Stardew Valley's new patch has led to a jump in concurrent players on Steam. The screenshot from the Twitter/X post below shows it peaked at 102,774 players, setting a new record for the game. However, even this is outdated, as that figure has since risen to 146,159, according to the most recent data.

//twitter.com/SteamDB/status/1770162348537364592

It's also jumped a pretty hefty 90 places on Steam, where it's currently sitting at number nine on the Top Sellers list. This will most likely change as time goes on, but one can imagine Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone will be waking up today as?? a rather happy developer.

Console and mobile patches coming soon

As for what version 1.6 actually contains, it's a seriously humongous list of changes, new editions, bug fixes, quality-of-life improvements, and the lot. You're honestly best off checking out the changelog on the Stardew Valley website, but be prepared to get a bit of soreness from all? that scrolling. It's a huge update, is what I'm saying??.

Examples of some of the new features include (but are definitely not limited to): a new festival, a new f??arm type, the ability to add multiple pets, winter outfits for NPCs, a bookseller who "comes to town twice a season," and a shed load more.

Unfor??tunately, the update is on??ly available on PC for now. Barone has said Xbox is "incoming soon," so those of us who play on console and iOS/Android will need to wait a little bit longer.

In a recent post on Nexus Mods one of the biggest repositories for game modifications and custom content the site is gearing people up for version 1.6 of Stardew Valley. While there's excitement inbound, especially given the tweaks and new content that's a-coming, anyone wh?o mods the game is being asked to prepare.

//twitter.com/ConcernedApe/status/1768324134487101734

According to the post, a "considerable chunk of mods will be broken" after the game updates. While data shows that around 44% of mods for version 1.5.6 should be compatible with 1.6, that lea????ves more than half that likely won't be.

How can I a modder prepare?

Nexus says that some are already hard at work, making sure the update is as "seamless as possible between 1.5 and 1.6 for mod authors." It also seems as though migrating over should be pretty forward. The site has provided a link to a migration guide to help people out.

For anyone who's not looking to make their Stardew mods compatible just yet, it's recommended to put "a note in either your description or pinned comments to that effect to help offset t??he flood of questions about the update from users."

As for general users, it's possible to filter the mods to only show ones that will work with 1.6. Looking at it currently, there are 41 that should work once the patch rolls o?ut. Howe?ver, that does mean over 14,000 will need a bit of work.

The post o?n X ensures us that lines from the changelog will be "non-spoilery."

As for when update 1.6 will actually be released, it's scheduled to begin rolling out on March 19, so next Tuesday, all being well. Fans in the Stardew Valley have been eagerly awaiting this next iteration of the game, which is said to be? bringing even more content.

Please sir, I want some more!

Released in 2016 we just passed its eighth birthday Stardew Valley quickly became a global sensation. M??any consider it to be one of the greatest indie games of all ti?me, combining SNES-style visuals in a colorful world with relaxing farm-based gameplay mechanics.

So popular is Barone's title that an orchestral tour went global, which featured a live performance of the game's chill soundtrack. That alone was such a hit, that additional dates had to be added.

What's next for the developer, then? Well, once update 1.6 is out, many will be anticipating further details on the new project Haunted Chocolatier. We know very little about this game, but what we've seen currently does make it look like it may not steer too far from the Stardew aesthetic.

Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone has been hard at work on the next update for Stardew Valley. While the creator?? is taking their time to make sure the patch is ready for release, they have made it clear that progress is coming a??long while also sharing a little tease.

Over on Twitter, Barone has shared a screenshot from Stardew Valley, showing off the new "Big Chest" in update 1.6. The post goes on to say that the developer has "self-imposed" a crunch mode to get the patch out but made a "ton of progress" on it last ??month.

//twitter.com/ConcernedApe/status/1730673829083775387

Nothing much has been said about what's coming, as the developer wants to keep "mostly everything secret." However, we have had some teases in the past, such as hats for animals. But we'll know more on?ce the?? update does roll out.

A labor of love

Barone seems clearly passionate about their game, which has gone down as one of the best indie titles in recent memory. When asked why they continue to work on Stardew Valley, the creator said: "I want it to be the be??st ??it can be," adding that "it's been my life's work and I care a lot about it."

On top of update 1.6, the game is also going on tour, with an orchestra set to travel the globe playing arrangements from the Stardew soundtrack. The tour kicks off in Los Angeles ??on February 16, 2024.

On a ??personal note, I'm actually fairly new to the game myself. Howeve?r, I became rather hooked on its simplistic visuals, relaxing mechanics, and the sheer amount of content that's been lovingly put in. The next patch is definitely one that a lot of fans will be keen to try out.

One of the appeals of Stardew Valley is its chill soundtrack. Accompanying players while they farm crops, talk to neighbors, and go exploring, the musical score is such an integral part of the game that a Festival of Seasons tour was announced last month. However, demand has been so high that the developer ??has added in more dates.

In a recent post on the website-formerly-known-as-Twitter, Eric "Concer?nedApe" Barone has said the global orchestral tour has been expanded, adding ?new dates and locations.

//twitter.com/ConcernedApe/status/1729913130334220584

Looking at the image, we can see additional shows have been added in Toronto, Los Angeles, Melbourne, London, and more. There are also now stops in New Zealand, Paris, Berlin, Manchester, Tokyo, and plenty of others. The tour will begin in Los Angeles on February 16. Tickets go on sale on December 1.

The Stardew Valley tour is a celebration of the melodies that have become an iconic part of the farming simulator. The official website describes the upcoming event as an "intimate, immersive live concert f?eaturing fr??esh arrangements of the most cherished songs from the game's mesmerizing soundtrack."

You may, however, need to get a move on if you do want?? tickets. Some of the major cities have already sold out, which is most likely what spurred the addition of ext??ra days in these locations.

In other news, there's still no word on when the next major patch for Stardew Valley is inbound. Barone has said that update 1.6 is in development, but it will only be released when it's good and ready. And rightly so. The developer is also working on a new project, which we know next to nothing about other than it's called the Haunted Chocolatier.

A while ago, we were given some hints as to what to expect in Stardew Valley's 1.6 update. Now, Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone has given us a sneak peek of what's actually coming to one of the best indie games ever made.

In a recent post on Twitter, the developer outlined a number of things coming to Stardew Valley. For starters, there's going to be a new "??major festival" ?as well as some "mini festivals" as well.

//twitter.com/ConcernedApe/status/1707155027914035542

There's also going to be more than 100 lines of new dialogue, a new farm type, winter outfits for villagers, and support for eight people playing multiplayer (on PC, at least). That's not everything either, as the post also says to ??expect "new secrets and more."

When's the update coming?

Barone has made it quite clear in that past that they don't want to rush the new Stardew Valley update. This is no exception, as the tweet says there's no release date yet and things ??are "still in development."

However, a post on Steam echoing the sneak peek states that version 1.6 is "close to being finished," but testing, polishing, and transla??tions need to be complet?e before it's ready.

Alongside this, Barone is also working on a new project called Haunted Chocolatier. We still don't know much about this upcoming game, but it appears to feature a similar aesthetic to Stardew Valley.

For now, keep an eye out for update 1.6. We can only hope it'll be rolling out soon, but the developer has (rightly) said that it will release when it's ready and not a moment befo??re.

Good things come to those who wait

Fans of the modern classic farming simulator that is Stardew Valley, and likely its massive 1.5 update which added mountains of new content to the game, will be thrilled to hear that the expansion is finally available on mobile platforms. The update first released on PC back in 2020, and mobile players have been asking when they'll get a chance to check i??t out ever since. Eric Barone, the solo developer behind the title, tweete?d out on January 6th that the 1.5 update had been submitted for review on iOS and Android platforms. The update had some issues in its first few days as players reported various bugs, but Barone has already rolled out at least one patch to fix the most glaring problems.

//twitter.com/ConcernedApe/status/16??116128142711?84899

It's easy to miss, but in the th??read of replies following that initial tweet, Barone said that the re-write of the game's app that was required to make the 1.5 update work should make things "easier to update mobile in the future (for 1.6 and who knows...)." We have no idea what the 1.6 update would entail it could simply be more basic bug fixes, although the fans (myself included) would be happy to guess that it's another content update, or maybe even multiplayer.

Either way, it's great to see Barone still has plenty of love to give to his debut title, even as he's working on another upcoming release, Haunted Chocolatier.

Serve sweets and meet spooky spirits

Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone, a.k.a. "ConcernedApe," has announced his next project. ConcernedApe's Haunted Chocolatier is currently in development ??as a game where, simply put??, you make chocolate.

Of course, it's never just that simple. As Barone describes on his website, Haunted Chocolatier is a game that's evolving organically as he works on it. The core gameplay loop involves gathering ingredients, making chocolate, and running a chocolate shop. It's got a similar vibe to say, Moonlighter or Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJy7LF789lo

But Barone says he doesn't want to get too deep on what else is there, as he doesn't want to be tied down to any "particular concept" of what Haunted Chocolatier is. Barone says he's been having fun with the possibilities of it, as Stardew Valley h?ad to work within an established tradition; here, he can be a little more "unleashed."

"I believe this will be ??a good opportunity, but I haven’t even gotten to the good stuff yet," writes Barone. "I’ve been mostly working on the 'meat and potatoes' of the game so far. But what really brings a game to life is the ??spice, the sauce. And I haven’t really gotten to the sauce yet. That’s coming."

With a decade and counting of Stardew Valley development, it's certainly fair to say that whatever Barone creates will be of pretty high interest. And honestly, this feels just right as a successor of sorts. It's fun to see all the little bits of Stardew, like hanging out with people in town. But also all the little ways in which it's differen?t.

Chatting with Burk in Haunted Chocolatier

There isn't a hard date on when it's arriving or for which platforms. There's a lot of content still to make, according to Barone, so he asks for understanding that it will be a while before the game is done. After years and years of Stardew Valley support, it's my opinion that he's more than earned the patience. I'm very excited to see how Haunted Chocolatier turns out when it's finally ready.
