Developer Archetype Entertainment just revealed a major addition to the narrative of its upcoming sci-fi RPG EXODUS. The developer has been slowly revealing major narrative elements of EXODUS, which many consider the spiritual successor to the Mass Effect series. The new story reveal focuses on a my?sterious alien known as the Silicates, which appears it will not only play a major role in EXODUS' story but also influence its gameplay.

A Weapon against the Celestials

While a lot of the story and even gameplay features of EXODUS is still a mystery, the reveal of the Silicates helps paint a picture of what may be a major factor both narratively and in terms of gameplay elements whenever EXODUS releases.

The mysterious Silicates first were first discovered as eggs that look like simple crystals or g??ems. However, when touched by a Human, a symbiotic bond causes the Silicate to hatch and merge with human flesh, resulting in death for most, but transcendin??g those that survive into a new powerful being known as a Daemon, undergoing musculature evolutions granting them incredible speed, strength, and other abilities. In essence, they become a weapon that the threat against humanity, The Celestials, fear.

Silicates are humanity’s leverage. Daemons don’t need weapons �they are weapons. They give humanity a fighting chance against the Celestials; they eve??n the playing field. Since Silicates will only bond with humans, there are some who see them in a religious light. They believe human-Silicate coexistence was preordained; it was meant to be and brought to fruition by some higher power. Others jus??t see it as a fortunate break for humanity �a piece of good luck to offset all the hardships that we have endured.

Despite the immense strength Silicates provide to humans, it's not without major drawb??acks. ??Those that become Daemons are prone to intrusive violent thoughts and urges, which some believe is due to the Silicates "speaking" to their hosts, trying to influence their behavior to serve their own purpose.

Even though there is a lot we still don't know about EXODUS', these detailed narrative features are helping to paint the picture of what to expect from the upcoming sci-fi RPG. It sounds like Silicates will not only play a major role in the story but give humans their not-so-human abilities akin to Powers in Mass Effect. I'm excited to hear more.

Archetype Entertainment has revealed what they've been working on. Exodus is a new sci-fi action shooter for current-g??e??n consoles and PC.

We didn't get too much solid info on what Exodus is, aside from an emotional trailer that quickly segued into some gameplay of action and shooting. It was introduced at The Game Awards 2023 by actor Matthew McConaughey, who will play a role in Exodus and did make menti??on of "alright, alright,?? alright."

Per the trailer description, Exodus is a sci-fi action-adventure role-playing game. According to a press release, which goes into further detail, Exodus will focus on consequences of the player's actions due to time dilation, and how tha??t time disparity can?? change the lives of those you love. As a Traveler on interstellar journeys, days for you might mean even longer back home.

"Exodus introduces an innovative new sci-fi world that forces players to face the consequences of their choices over time," said studio head James Ohlen. "We introduce the player, as the Traveler, to an original sci-fi universe, a world created wit??h an incredible level of detail in collaboration with award-winning sci-fi authors. The gameplay setting and story we created i?s built around the impact of Time Dilation, a concept I’ve been fascinated with since I was 12 years-old. We use Time Dilation as a catalyst impacting the choices you make in-game that sets in motion events affecting your relationships with your loved ones, and your entire civilization, for generations."

Archetype Entertainment is a studio made up of BioWare veterans, under the auspi??ces of Wizards of the Coast. Time will tell, as we don't have a release date or anything as of yet. But given just the talent and premise we've seen here, I'm already interested.
