Gaming can quite quickly become an expensive hobby. The non-stop conga line of fantastic games this year has made it harder than ever to play without hurting your wallet. Not every worthwhile experience ??has a price tag on it, however. With the following PS5 titles, you'll have a blast without spending a cent.

10. Apex Legends

When it comes to free-to-play games, fans of first-person shooters have more than enough to pick from. Apex Legends is a battle-royale style game featuring a cast of characters serving as either Recon, Support, Skirmisher, Assault, or Controller. With a good variety of guns and maps, it i?s a title that easily hooks players for hours at a time.

9. Destiny 2

Yet another first-person shooter appears on the list in the form of Destiny 2. It has managed to remain relevant thanks to constant expansions, including Lightfall in 2023. With Sony's acquisition of Bu?ngie, it appears the franchise will be supported for a long ti?me to come.

8. Warframe

The third-person shooter Warframe was first released in 2013, and it has maintained popularity since. It uses a mix of both procedurally generated and fixed levels that have players using guns and stealth. With new expansions regularly released, it's always a good time to start playing Warframe.

7. Sky: Children of Light

Sky is a game that is best experienced instead of described. Players who enjoyed titles like Journey and Flower will instantly fall in love with Sky. Much like the aforementioned titles, Sky features a minimalistic style of storytelling along with multiplayer elements implemented in unexpected ways. Play Sky, it may be the best thing you do all week.

6. The Sims 4

The popular life simulation game The Sims 4 went free-to-play in 2022, breathing new life into a somewhat dated game. Although the controls on consoles are occasionally awkward, The Sims 4 is definitely worth playing. It has earned its longevity thr?ough its expansive gameplay, detailed character creator system, and quirky humor that has characterized the franchise f?or years.

5. Fortnite

It's hard to make any free-to-play list without including Fortnite. Over five years after its initial rel??ease, it has since grown into a phenomenon encompassing celebrities, music concerts, and various other gamin??g franchises. Nevertheless, it remains ol' reliable when it comes to exciting battle royale gameplay.

4. Overwatch 2

The first-person shooter Overwatch 2 is one of the most popular games of its type around. Gameplay is fast-paced and fun, with a learning curve that's not too steep. The player base is very active, ensuring you can jump into the action ??at any time.

3. Rocket League

When it comes to addictive gameplay, it's hard to do better than Rocket League. Released in 2015, it has players playing soccer with rocket-powered vehicles??. It has since developed a competitive scene, though casual players can still easily join at any time. In 2020, it went free-to-play, opening the game to an even wider audience.

2. Fall Guys

Fall Guys launched in August 2020, and it was an immediate record-breaking hit. Though it may not make as many headlines in 2023, Fall Guys is still a silly battle royale game with an active user base. Much like the show Takeshi's Castle, players are tasked ??with completing an assortment of games and obstacle courses. Little beans are the competitors, which makes things all the more sillier.

1. Astro's Playroom

Astro's Playroom is bundled with the PS5, and it familiarizes players with the features of the DualSense, as well as the blinding speed of th?e console's SSD. It is, without a doubt, a must-play for every PS5 owner, and years later it remains one of the best showcases of the PS5's abilities.

The game features gorgeous visuals that reference many classic PlayStation franchises, and the platforming gameplay is both fun and varied. The only wish now is that the PSVR 2 receives a similar title.

There is a good variety of free-to-play games available on PS5, and they'll satisfy fans of sports games, shooters, and platformers. Upcoming free-to-play games to look out for include the soccer game UFC, as well as the MMORPG Throne and Liberty.

The Satellite Scramble takes off on September 15

A new Fall Guys season is taking off this week, and it's headed for the stars. Fall Guys launches Season 2 this we????ek, dubbed Satellite Scramble, goes live on September 15.

As you can guess, this new season is all galactic. Space-theme??d variations of other Rounds found in Solos, Duos, and Squads will roll out, as will some new Costumes and Challenges.

A mission to repair the Fall Guys satellite can net a few rewards: a Space B??ean nickname, some Kudos, a Satellite Explorer nameplate??, Space Icons pattern, and a Satellite backpack at the highest tier.

But the big attraction, of course, is the new Rounds. Several new levels will join the Fall Guys rotation.

A whole new world

The Tiptoe Finale seems hilarious, as four squads try to tiptoe their way to victory. It's like the usual Tiptoe round where some pl?a??tforms are stable and others fall, except four teams are racing to the center for the crown.

Starchart sees beans leaping and trying to r?un across invisible paths to reach the end. Sure, you could hit the buttons to light the way, but what fun is that?

Pixel Painters has players hop on tiles to spell out patterns, while the Cosmic Highway has rows of rotating and moving platforms. Hyperdrive Heroes? brings back the moving platform hijinks, moving in a circular route as obstacles whiz by.

Hex-a-terrestrial has players navigate floating pl??atforms, while Space Race sends the Gauntlet into the stars. Frantic Factory is a free-for-all variant of But??ton Bashers. And yes, even more new obstacles will make them all chaotic and ripe for falling.

The Season will have both a premium and free track. And the premium track in parti??cular has some wild-sounding costumes, including Spock, the Xenomorph, and Hatsune Miku.

It sounds like a whole lot of space wackiness is coming to the now-free to play Fall Guys. Mediatonic says more improvements, bug fixes, and features are on the way. We'll see how big space gets for Fall Guys on September 15.

The Bean Hill Zone event runs from August 11�5

I haven't been back to Fall Guys since its free-to-play transformation. But the new Sonic the Hedgehog event, including a bespoke ring-collecting Bean Hill Zone level, got me to update and boot up the game again. Is it worth you??r time? Yes �we?ll, to a point.

If yo?u're someone who's dead set on winning, you might have a bad time, in a way that feels too out of your hands. If you're looking for a chaotic casual play session �just long enough to clear the challeng??es for Sonic-themed rewards �then it's a decent excursion.

Across three escalating rounds, which ultimately name just a single overall winner, the idea is to co??llect enough rings to avoid being culled from the greedy pack.

You'll vault off Bounce Pads, tumble through suction tunnels, jog with speed boosters, and generally try and navigate conveyor belts to your advantage. The rings ap??pear in certain location??s, so if you know when and where to go, you can quickly hoard them.

If you're trying to follow another player too closely and they leave nothing behind, or if the ring spawn timing otherwise doesn't work out in your favor, the level can be frustrating. When it works out, t?hough, it's satisfying to collect a bunch of rings in a row.

Gotta go fast (except when you shouldn't)

In some cases, charging forward nonstop isn't necessarily the right call �if I missed a batch of rings, I would try and wait for them to respawn, then pounce on them. It's all about being in the right place ??at the right time, which is easier said than done.

For some players, the spawn locations feel unfair. And for others, B??ean Hill Zone doesn't capture enough of Sonic's sense of speed. As a limited-time event, I think it's... fine.

Having an??other gameplay mechanic in the mix �say, some sort of manually activated speed-boost ability �could've a??dded another layer of strategy, which would keep the experience fresh over multiple games. As is, simplicity works for and against this stage.

Rewards for the Sonic's Adventure event

What's the carrot on a stick this time? A nameplate, a ring skin pattern, and Sonic's iconic red shoes are among the rewards up for grabs for clearing?? the challenges, as pictured above. It's mostly running and collecting rings. Don't forget to take a chili-dog break.

While I'm glad I tried Bean Hill Zone as a way of shaking up the usual Fall Guys mayhem, admittedly, the Sonic level isn't something I'll play beyond these challenges. It's pretty one-note. (And it helps that against all odds, I won my?? first game, so the competitive pressure is off.) The three rounds go quick, which I like. It's not a big commitment.

As part of the event, the Fall Guys shop is also hosting premium costumes for Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Dr. Eggman, and Super Sonic, along with a "foot tap" emoji. No surprise here, but this stuff isn't cheap. Again, being a casual Fall Guys player has its advantages.

Fall Guys proves it has legs

Fall Guys has been one of the most successful online games over the past few years, and for good reason. After the flood of battle royale games we got, it was a nice change of pace to have one that was a colorful, goofy platformer that we could play with friends. I know I certainly got swept up in it when it first came out, and had a blast trying something new even if I was terrible. Now, Fall Guys is seei?ng even more success, and I couldn't be happier that a creative and genuinely fun idea is getting the love it deserves.

The official Fall Guys account tweeted this morning that the game has officially surpassed 50 million players! Exciting news for a game with such humble beginnings. If you're wondering why the game is just now garnering such a big player base, it's because Fall Guys just switched to a free-to-play model with battle passes and all that good stuff on June 21. The other significant change was that it mov?ed off of Steam and onto the Epic Games Launcher, and was made available on Xbox and Nintendo Switch for the fi??rst time.

After the rerelease, Fall Guys garnered 20 million players in 48 hours, which is a pretty impressi??ve feat for a game that's over two years old. Now it's more than doubled that after two we??eks.

If nothing else, this scenario has proved that the free-to-play model can be pretty effective at getting players to try a new game, and because the outfits are such a fun part of Fall Guys, the battle pass system should work well for them. Here's hoping that the?? game continues to stick around for a while, because every time I see clips of it, it just makes me ha??ppy.

I guess now? is a better time than any to jump back on the train, and try to claim a crown of my?? own once and for all.

Sweet Thieves are made of these

A new Fall Guys event is rolling in on Thursday, bringing some more Assassin's Creed theming. Abstergo's Challenge adds some new objectives to complete for prizes, while Eivor and Odin roll into the Fall Guys Store.

Abstergo's Challenge kicks off on July 7, with a bunch of objectives themed around the game mode Sweet Thieves. This is the mode where one team plays invisible beans, trying to steal away candy, w?hile the guardians of the candy try to grab and capture them.

Beating objective????????????????????????????s like winning as a Thief or Guardian, as well as carrying enough candy and pressing buttons, gets you points in Abstergo's Challenge. Prizes include a title, pattern, and a shiny Apple of Eden-styled backpack.

Odin the All-Father and Eivor the Wolf-Kissed will also be available as costumes in the Store, at 1200 Show-Bucks apiece or 2000 for the bundle. These do cost cash, as opposed to the challenge cosmetics. Still, option's there if you want to round out your Ezio Auditore costume from the seasonal pass with some more modern assass?ins.

Stealth drop

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout launched into free-to-play, landing on the Nintendo Switch, Xbox consoles, and Epic store in the process. Players have had some criticisms of the new monetization model.

It's also been a pretty good excuse to dip back into Fall Guys, though. Despite sharing some criticisms about the new model, I've still enjoyed dipping back in and playing, as the physical comedy and a??ntics of the ultimate knockout royale hasn't really faded for me. Free-to-play has m??ade it easy to convince friends to hop on and try it out, too.

I do wonder why so much Assassin's Creed stuff has been streaming into the game.?? It makes more sense than some other Ubisoft properties, I suppose; though I really would love to see a bean-shaped Sam Fisher.

Abstergo's Challenge will be live in Fall Guys from July 7 through 11.

Despite some growing pains, it's a good time to fall off inflatables

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is free-to-play now, for close to a week. Over the last weekend, I spent hours getting back in; acclimating to the new model, browsing the new rewards, and marveling at all that's changed since I dropped off. And despite some early wrinkles, I can't really deny it. It's a good time to be back into Fall Guys.

It's almost impossible for me to divorce Fall Guys from the moment when it launched. It was the first summer of the pandemic, and with everyone inside and socially distanced, Fall Guys was a welcome reprieve. Much like Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it became a forum for social interaction. But that's not to say Fall Guys wasn't good on its own merits, either.

We all fall down

What Fall Guys really nailed then, and still does so now, is the chaotic game show feel. The moment when you start up a new show and 60 players are standing in a massive block, waiting to hurl themselves face-forward through an obstacle course or race track. Shows like Wipeout and Takeshi's Castle (MXC, for Spike view?ers) are all ??about this chaos. Getting it in video game form, however, is a little tougher.

It's not just the mu?ltiple players careening down the same course. It's the physicality of it. The way everyone bumps into each other. How a bean totters and tumbles, then gets flung around the course by a giant mallet. It's like seeing people run down a hill of trampolines and trapdoors in comically large sumo? suits.

Fall Guys stays comedic because you are always acutely aware of the difference between succes?s and failure. You can envision, in your mind's eye, what a perfect run of the brand-new Track Attack looks like. It should be so simple to cruise along the middle lane, threading the needle and blowing past the competition through speed ring after speed ring.

Yet your own follies, combined with players bumbling and fumbling alongside you?, makes it all the messier. And it's all the more fun for it, too.

Guys, falling

It helps that the new course??s are spec?tacular. Track Attack and Speed Circuit are already new favorites of mine, and Blast Ball is a fantastic addition to the final round pool. The mixture of dodgeball with time-delayed bombs and floors that could fall out from beneath you makes for just the right mix of careful planning and surprise swings.

The upside of Fall Guys going free-to-play is the sheer number of new players flooding into the servers. Mediatonic boasted about hitting 20 million players in the first 48 hours, which is a good number in the abstract. In the actual moment-??to-moment though, it meant everyone was jumping on. And it was ridiculously easy to g??et a match.

Anecdotally, I know plenty of people who dove back in due to the free model. Heck, I'm one of them. I fell off a while back, and it's been a blast to have such a good excuse to revisit why I loved Fall Guys in the first place.

Free play

Of course, with the move to free-to-play comes a few growing pains. We took a look at some of those issues the other day, as users have painstakingly detailed ways in which the free-to-play model is not working for them. I agree with some of it too, from my own experience getting back into Fall Guys. Seasonal pass progression could be more emphasized f??or wins, and the item pricing is a little high for my own taste.

Fall Guys clearly takes after the Fortnite model, which makes some sense. But it also feels like Mediatonic is still figuring out what numbers it needs to tweak to make that model specifically fit Fall Guys. These feel like the type of growth is?sues that any game has, trying to fine-tune a free-t?o-play model.

I'm hopeful that Mediatonic can navigate it well, though. This return to Fall Guys has reassured me that, through all?? this time, the developers behind the game have still been able to nail that particular spark. While w?inning itself feels a bit different due to Crowns no longer doubling as currency, winning still feels exciting just for the thrill of winning itself.

It's still a joy to mess with my friends in Squad games. It's exciting to discover some new strategy or time-saver in the white-knuckle platforming challenge of Slimescraper. And it cracks me up to see Fall Guys highlights pop up on social media, seeing all the hilarious ways people can triumph and fail in this game. It's still figuring some stuff out, but it's good to be playing Fall Guys again.

Falling, free falling

The frenetic platformer royale Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout goes free-to-play and adds some new platforms today. The Free For All season is live now, and Fall Guys is officially launched for Nintendo Switch and Xbox consoles.

News of this update arrived last month, revealing Mediatonic's gameshow-style competition is coming to new platforms. With today's update, Fall Guys is now free to play on all platforms. It also has cross-play across all platforms, so the party doesn't stop when you swap over. Mediatonic also confirms in an FAQ that the new season makes Fall Guys cross-progression as well.

Today's update also marks the launch of the new Season Pass. Everyone gets access to 50 levels, while legacy players—those who bought Fall Guys when it first launched—get the whole thing free.

Grab a hold of the ledge

Some more updates are in store for Fall Guys today as well. Alongside the new cosmetics in the Season Pass, some new courses are being added. Hex-A-Ring, Volleyfall, Speed Circuit, Track Attack, Bounce Party, The Swiv??eller, and Blast Ball are all added in to the game.

An Auto Grab option is also available, letting players automatically grab ledges. You can also now dive-grab Tails and Crowns, which is sure to make some of those protect-your-tail rounds more interesting. Voice? Chat is also enabled in Parties.

One note is that while Steam owners will continue to be able to play Fall Guys and get all the updates, the platformer royale won't have a Steam store page anymore. Any new players picking up Fall Guys on PC today will need to play through the Epic Games Store.

With all the new cosmetics and courses, as well as cross-platform play, it really does seem like a good summer to get back into Fall Guys. Time to get my hot-dog sui??t out of the closet and chase some Crowns.

Five potentially quick wins in a row

I had zero expectations for Sweet Thieves, a new small-team mode in Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout that feels self-contained and distinct from the usual multi-game gauntlet. You either win as the attackers or defenders, or you don't �that's the "show."?? And with that simplicity (and newness), there's a decent opening to earn five wins in a row for the coveted Infallible trophy/achievement that very few players have managed to unlock.

A few rounds in, I thought Sweet Thieves was decent. A few more rounds in �?especially after I figured out my ideal path as a sneaky invisible candy-stealer �and ??I was hooked.

I had a few challenges left to complete for the new Astro Bot tie-in costume, and that was my only goal. But, in the process, I managed to pop that blasted trophy. My heart was absolutely racing. And it looks like I'm not the only one out there who's getting lucky.

If you care about trophies, Sweet Thieves is worth checking out. But it stands on its own, too. This is the most fun I've had with Fall Guys in forever. While the seasonal updates have added creative levels with neat themes, the feeling of freshness usually doesn't last that long for me. In this case, Swee?t Thieves can and will get old, too �but it's so fast-paced, and crucially such a small time commitment, that it's easy to keep playing.

On the attacking side, which is more enjoyable, in my experience, your team of thieves will try to snatch up egg-like candy pieces and deposit them back at your base. You can hold down a button (L1 by default ??on PS4/PS5) to walk invisibly, but if you run or jump, you can b??e spotted. This mechanic can be really squirrely in a good way. It's tense and funny.

If you're grabbed by a defending "guardian" player, you'll be whisked away to a jail overlooking the level �although there's a giant jail-break button in the middle of the arena? that a teammate can hopefully smash to set you free. You've got three minutes to capture 12 pieces of candy; if you're too slow, or if all eight of you are jailed, it's game over.

As a guardian, you've got to fight your instincts to chase after random players doing random stuff, though it's tempting. If your team can stand its ground pretty well to hold out, you'll win?. That said, I got my Infallible trophy because I kept being matched as a thief?.

Again, Sweet Thieves is three minutes long, and that's the whole show �you either win or you don't, and yo?u can hop back into matchmaking. There aren't ??multiple rounds as it currently stands. I don't know if that's sitting well with everyone, but I like the pace.

If nothing else, you can earn an Astro Bot costume

While this mode is running (and hopefully it'll be a permanent fixture), there's an Astro Bot challenge with goals that all have to do specifically with Sweet Thieves. T??hey're doable! I only played with random folks and was able to get it all done in a single sitting.

Sweet Thieves taps into that wacky experimental "Warcraft III custom games" energy from my younger days, and I super dig it. If you're looking for an excuse to revisit Fall Guys (apologies, would-be Switch and Xbox players...), then this i?s it. It feels different!

The Astro Bot challenge runs from March 8�3. There's also Double Fame points ??until March 16. It's a good time to stockpile crowns for a rainy day.

Don't spill the beans

Mediatonic's frantic, clumsy, huggable battle royale game Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout has fused with Monopoly, and I feel like these are?? two wild extremes colliding together.

I rarely end a session of Fall Guys feeling bummed out �even if I botched my chance at claiming the crown at the very last second. On the flip side, I never get through a game of Monopoly without hating myself and everybody around me. There's something in the air. As much as there is a running joke about tensions being high in Monopoly, it's totally true.

Monopoly Fall Guys incorporates elements from the game like Crowns and Kudos. Instead of scooping up properties, players compete to buy Rounds, and there plastic obstacles in the mix like the See Saw and Big Yeetus. If you're out of the loop on Fall Guys, you kinda had to be there, but Big Yeetus is a hammer. Look, I don't know either, but?? it's za??ny.

"When a player begi??ns their turn, they'll roll the Knockout die. This will let them do things such as activate obstacles, collect Kudos, or even move other players," reads the description. "Move around the board buying as many Rounds as possible. When passing Go, collect a Crown! Each one hauls in 10,000 Kudos at the end of the game."

In the US, the game is up on Amazon for $26.49 right now. According to the Fall Guys Twitter account, Monopoly Fall Guys will be available in the "rest of the world soonTM."

While these sorts of pop-culture editions are common for Monopoly, I've never played one; not even the Nintendo variation with the little Gyroid piece. I do like that fairly new, and seemingly very under-the-radar Monopoly Madness party game, though. It's so fast.

If you're just sitting here at the end of this article wondering what's up with Fall Guys on Nintendo Switch and Xbox, no news to report on that front, I'm afraid �those ports are expected to launch later this year after missing a prior summer release window.

The next stop on the free-to-play cosmetic tour

Aloy, the protagonist of Horizon Zero Dawn and upcoming Horizon Forbidden West, has been appearing in quite a few games. Her latest cameo appearance now looks to be Fall Guys, as a bean-if?ied version of the hero is leaping into the games.

Aloy will join the lineup next week on Dec. 6, adding to the many cameo costumes in Fall Guys. It looks like some extra gameplay content will arrive then too, with the Fall Guys tweet saying you can avoid mechanical menaces and collect blaze canisters for unique rewards i??n Aloy's Blaze Canister Mayhem.

So alongside Fall Guys, Aloy has also appeared in Genshin Impact, Fortnite, and Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. That's a lot of appearances for the PlayStation protagonist. Honestly, I'd really like to see a Soulcalibur crossover, but who knows if ??that has a chance of ever happening.

Tons of other characters have also been joining in for Fall Guys cameos since its breakout success, like Super Monkey Ball's AiAi and Clank from Ratchet & Clank. Much like Fortnite, it's a? game ripe for crossovers and tie-ins. I like that Aloy is getting some sort of playable event too, though.

As for Aloy's own next adventure, that will be in February with Horizon Forbidden West. She'll be sliding right into what's looking like a very, very packed February game release window. The first platform you link to Epic will become your primary profile in Fall Guys going forward, so choose carefully if you've got PS4 and PC progress

Today not only marks the beginning of Season 6 in Fall Guys, with vacuum tubes befitting a hamster cage and 360-degree seesaws to contend with, but also the start of cross-platform progression. By linking an Epic Games account, you can chip away at the Fame Path and wrack up crowns (or at least crown shards) on PC or PlayStation 4 and retain those rewards across both platforms. That sa??id, a quick cautionary heads-up is in order.

To even start Fall Guys, you've now got to link a new or existing Epic Games acco??unt �it's mandatory. You won't be able to get to the game's main menu until you do so.

The setup process is fairly easy if you already have an account �there's a QR code that'll take you to the right site, at which point you can just log into your Epic Games account and authorize access for Fall Guys �but ??that doesn't m??ean you should rush through it.

Here's the PSA: you'll want to make sure you choose the optimal primary profile. Basically, the first platform you link to your Epic account will be the basis for your primary profile in Fall Guys, so it's best to start thi????s process on whichever platform has the most unlocks.

In my situation, I have the most crowns and costumes on PS4, so I linked my Epic account to the PS4 version of Fall Guys first. Then I switched over to the PC version, where I've got considerably less stuff, and linked my Epic account to Steam second. Afterward, a b?unch of achievements popped at once, and now I'm good to go for Season 6 and beyond.

Even with this tip in mind, it's not going to be a full consolidation. Namely, your separate Fame Path progress, crowns, and kudos can't be combined, so whatever you've got on your "primary" p??????????????????????????rofile is what you'll end up with after everything's squared away.

If you mistakenly ended up with a less-than-ideal primary platform, you can contact Fall Guys support to change it "once," and if you've got "different items unlocked on your Steam and PlayStation profiles, [the support team] can transfer them so you have them all on your primary profile." For more details, consult this Epic account FAQ.

On the b?right side, you'll ge??t 10 crowns just for linking your accounts.

Another note: "Lobbies & Friends Lists will arrive later in Season 6, unlocking the abi??lity to play with any of your Epic friends on any platform linked to their Epic Games Account."

So, how is Fall Guys Season 6? I like the cheerful and vibrant holiday-ish theme, and the two levels where you've go??t to stay in the light to earn points are pr?etty neat. I wish there was a new finale, though �that's sure to be a common complaint among fans.

There are five new rounds in Season 6 with several differ??ent obstacles:

• Party Promenade â€?Our wildest gauntlet to date, packed with new obstacles - including vacuum tubes, trapezes, and water balloon cannons.
• Full Tilt â€?A fiendishly fresh take on a Fall Guys classic, debuting our dizzyingly new 360° seesaws.
• Pipe Dream â€?A totally tubular dash to the finish line, with each vacuum tube potentially leading to a maze-like challenge.
• Airtime â€?Strive to stay in the air for as long as possible via outrageous displays of aerial agility.
• Leading Light â€?Grab the spotlight and become the center of attention.

The developers have also confirmed what many of us were starting to expect: that the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One versions of Fall Guys won't be released in 2021.

There's been another delay, and they're now targeting a 2022 launch. A more specific release window wasn't shared today. Whether or not the Switch and Xbox launches can line up with Season 7, or potentially even show up mid-season?, remains to be seen.

If you're wondering about the Ghost of Tsushima outfits, there are two �Jin Sakai (the lower half of the costume is unlocked at Level 10, and the upper half is at Level 15) and The Ghost (at Lev??el 45 and Level 50)?. Fame Path progress seems slower, at least initially.

Is it possible that I'll play as AiAi in Fall Guys more than I play as him in Super Monkey Ball proper? Probably not! Almost certainly not. But it isn't impossible. As a limited-time crossover, you can get a just-released AiAi costume in Fall Guys from September 27�0.

I know plenty of you have bowed out of Fall Guys. AiAi is so cute in this footage, though!

I went ahead and bought it �for the purposes of this article, and also because I really like Super Monkey Ball and am stoked to see it in the spotlight again. We're a week off from Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania (a remaster of the classic games for all platforms), which I absolutely must make time for. That's all the justification needed for a Fall Guys team-up.

My crown stockpile is dwindling, so if they come out with a Baby costume next, I'm gonna be sad. Yes, I'm the weirdo who mains Baby. Come at me �and you best not miss. There's something extra gleeful about winning Monkey Targe?t as this tiny young creature.

There are 10 challenges to clear out by August 15

Did you miss the Ratchet event in Fall Guys? I let it slide right by me. But that's okay. Above all, I'm here for my boy Clank. You can unlock the robot companion �err, a surprisingly thicc approximation of him �in Fall Guys from August 6�5, 2021.

The Fall Guys Clank event is live, and while it's going to require dipping into Trios (which I know some of you are wary of), in general, the challenges aren't too taxing. The toughest one is securing a Trios win, meaning you or someo??ne on your squad has to take the crown.

If y?ou're curious about ??that final 2,000-point reward, it's the Clank's Laugh emote.

Here's the list of goals to check off:

• Jump 20 times
• Dive 40 times
• Grab 10 Players during a Round
• Earn at least a Bronze Medal in Any Round 2 times
• Earn at least a Silver Medal in Any Round 5 times
• Earn at least a Gold Medal in Any Round 5 times
• Qualify from Team Rounds 1 time
• Reach Round 2 in Squad Trios Show
• Reach Round 4 in Squad Trios Show
• Win Squads Trios

Naturally, you'll accumulate many of these just by playing to win. The rest, well, let'??s hope you h?ave good matchmaking luck or you've got a friend or two to queue up with in Trios.

I'm still plugging?? away at that first ?win, but the quest for booty must continue.

(That reference isn't lost on you, right? I'd feel much more confident if all of the Ratchet & Clank games were available on systems newer than the PlayStation 3, as opposed to just two of them being playable on either a? PS4 or PS5. Give the people what they want, Sony.)

Technically, I could just stop now and I'd still have Clank's caboose without needing to keep grinding this out further. Th?at's a silver lining I might be willing to accept.

Today's a good day to dip back into Fall Guys �the beans are now one year old, and Mediatonic is giving out double crowns as a celebration.

To participate, you can play Fall Guys as you normally would, and any crowns you earn will be doubled for the rest of the day. That 2x bonus even goes for the Fame Path (battle pass) rewards. For instance, I ranked up to level nine on the Fame Path today, and instead of getting a single crown, I was awarded two. Why thank you. I'm struggling out here.

Gameplay-wise, there's another alternate show type running right now: the Anniversary Party, which is just the original Season 1 batch of levels like Door Dash and Perfect Match. Even though Fall Guys has eclipsed many of the original stages with dynamic new levels in Seasons 3, 4, and 5, a ??few of them, like Slime Climb, are fun to revisit �particularly with super-deadly modifiers activated. This stage is still a total bloodbath when it wants to be.

In the shop, there are two not-exactly-free-but-close-enough cosmetics for the birthday bash. You'll need 10 Kudos for the Happy Birthday costume and? 10 more for the pattern.

Double crowns is a nice little incentive, and if it's been a while since you've checked in with Fall Guys, I'd encourage you to do so. The last few seasons have spiced it up n?icely.

While this isn't a game I can stick with non-stop, the last several times ?I have returned to it for some here-and-there fun, I've had a blast. It was great playing a few rounds today with Sonic the Hedgehog, Godzilla, and Ratchet in the ranks. There's a lot of life left.

Season 4.5 has two new rounds, 55 level variations, custom lobbies for everyone, and PC/PS4 matchmaking

The Season 4.5 update is coming to Fall Guys on May 13 with a pair of new levels, revamps of existing stages, and some pleasant surprises like the ability for PS4 and PC players to "matchmake together in all game modes." The best bit, by far: a "spiritual successor" to Slime Climb?? called The Slimescraper.

According to the developers, The Slimescraper is a race against rising slime across "multiple floors of mayhem." The other new Season 4.5 level, Button Bashers, is a one-on-one round in which everyone's split up into "dueling pairs." As for mid-season remixes, expect l?ow gravity on Hex-A-Gone and Thin Ice.

Other Season 4.5 features:

• Custom lobbies: "You can start games with as few as four players, and PC and PS4 players can play together."

• Cross-play: "PC and PS4 players can now matchmake together in all game modes! (Cross-platform parties are not possible yet.)"

• Cheater reporting: "New Player Reporting feature for if you spot potential cheaters. We'll never act solely on reports (reports help us with cross referencing) and we'll never ban anyone for grabbing or using in-game mechanics in a normal fashion."

• Less latency: "Improved latency when grabbing objects or mantling. Things should be much more responsive now."

• Connection quality signal: "In-game visual indicator to show connection quality to help troubleshoot issues."

• Fixes: Improvements for "de-sync, physics, and related issues," among many others.

Mediatonic says this update, codename Dave, is its "most ambitious mid-season to date" for Fall Guys.

Even after all of the seasonal updates and refreshes, Slime Climb is still one of my favorite levels in Fall Guys by a significant margin, so that'??s all I really needed to hear to want to show up tomorrow.

It's going to be fantastic to have this game playable on Switch and Xbox in hopefully tip-top shape. (You probably heard, but those versions were recently delayed.) I never want to take cross????-play for granted.

The platform-royale Fall Guys was set to make both its Nintendo Switch and Xbox console debut this summer. That goal's been delaye??d, but the move has opened Mediatonic up to work on another much-requested feature:?? crossplay.

In a blog today, Mediatonic confirmed Fall Guys won't make its previously announced summer 2021 window for Xbox and Switch, as it's "unfortunately just too soon" to include all the features it wanted to. The delay does open up some new possibilities, though; the delay means that crossplay can be added, so when Fall Guys c??omes to new platforms they'll be able to play with ever?yone else.

Epic Games recently picked up the Tonic Games Group, which includes Mediatonic. In a statement at the time, the Fall Guys developer said joining Epic would "accelerate our plans to improve the game and bring Fall Guys to as many pla?yers as possible, while continuing to support the community.??"

Alongside the Switch and Xbox versions, Mediatonic is also working on the upcoming Season 4.5 update, which will add two new rounds alongside some new options for your Fall Guys wardrobe. No date has been set for that yet.

I really got deep into the Fall Guys trend for at least a few?? weeks last year, and hearing that crossplay is in the cards is great. The more guys you can have falling across all platforms, the better it is for the game.

Even as a solo player matched up with randoms, Squads is the most fun I've had in Fall Guys since Season 1

Somehow, Season 4 of Fall Guys has already been out for a month. That whole time, I've been meaning to check in — the futuristic low-gravity levels looked fun — but I kept pushing it off. After adoring Season 1, bouncing off of Season 2, an??d ??missing most of Season 3, it wasn't that hard to procrastinate.

On a whim, curiosity got the better of me and I spent a couple of hours with Season 4? today.

You know you've been on ??a real break? when a once-familiar main menu suddenly feels overwhelming.

As much as I like the new stages and variations on the original obstacle courses, the biggest surprise to me is just how much I enjoy Squads mode. It has single-handedly renewed my interest in (trying to) keep up with Fall Guys again, which is funny, because it wasn't even? a?????????????????????????? blip on my radar until now.

I think I had it in my head that Squads would only be good wit?h a full crew of friends to back you up. That's surely the ideal way to go, but at least for me, as a solo-queue player, I'm having a blast.

Originally in Fall Guys, with a team, it still felt weirdly solitary — like you were all doing your own thing at the same. If you were knocked out of the competition, that was kind of it; you got to passively watch your pals play until one of them took the Crown or they were all knoc?ked out. It was more of a novelty.

The thing that makes Squads special — and this is something I hadn't latched onto before — is that the game is re-tuned for teamwork. You win or lose as a group by scoring points, with the lowest-scoring teams getting culled from the battle-bean competition. For instance, in race levels, the sooner you cross the ??finish line, the more points you'll earn for your squad. So if you're one of the first to reach the end, you'll contribute a lot; if you have a straggler on your team, they won't add much to your total.

Meanwhile, in survival levels, you an?d your still-standing crew will earn points as the timer ticks down.

Squads might sound frustrating in the same way that team games often can be in Fall Guys, but that hasn't been my experience. I've genuinely enjoyed rolling through levels with my randomly grouped ??teammates while trying my best ?to do well individually and as a team player watching their backs.

Even on stages I've seen?? easily hundreds of times before, I feel like I can't be on auto-pilot like I sometimes am when I play alone. With the Squads mode, the fact that? I can bomb one round, have my squad survive, and then rejoin them for the next level has a big impact on my motivation to play my very best every moment. There's higher-stakes tension — especially during crowded races where I'm trying to go fast but not bump off teammates in the process — and the game feels all-around fresh again.

Yeah, the new-to-me Season 4 content is also helping to freshen?? up the place. I can't deny it. But again, even when I'm going through my same old stomping grounds, I feel reinvigorated with my squad.

I haven't won a finale for my team in Squads yet, but that's the goal. That'll keep me coming ba?ck. Earning Crown Shards that eventually accumulate? to form full Crowns is a nice extra nudge, too.

A few levels aren't playable in the Squads show, and I imagine there are other kinks to work out and improvements to make. That said, I love what's here, and it deserves a permanent place in Fall Guys.

While I promised myself I would never go out of my way to try earning the Infallible trophy (that's the feat for five back-to-back? show wins), Squads might change my tune. If anyone on your team wins the final round in Squads, you all get the W. Is the platinum within my reach after all? That's my last trophy...

Some of you won't click with Squads, and that's fine — but I had to give it a shout-out for other players who might've overlooked it. If you've felt like you're "over Fall Guys," it's worth revisiting.

How does March 22 sound for Fall Guys Season 4? Ready or not, here it comes – a futuristic new season starts in one week, so if you have any ground left to? cover?? in Season 3, you'd best get going.

The more trailers I watch for the game, the more this grim realization settles in: if someone – say a tricky Cenobite-type character – were to lock me in a room with the Fall Guys theme song blaring for a day, I would not need the full 24 hours to animorph into a bean man. It would be a quick and painful fate. Thankfully, this time, the iconic main-menu tune quickly fades into a far chiller track from Gunship.

I know this is a cinematic trailer, and we've only gotten a good look at one of the seven new Season 4 levels so far, but I'm pleasantly surprised. Even though "The Future" is such a widely-used theme in pop culture, it fits pretty well with the game-show concept of Fall Guys, and I'm sensing more creativity and ambition as Mediatonic scales up. I hope they go a little Running Man on us, even if it's just a simple nod.

Some of the levels being teased: Power Trip, Roll On, Big Sho??ts, and the aforementioned Skyline Stumble. If you loathe team games on principle, well, it looks like there's at least one more on the way.

Apart from the Among Us crossover costume shown at the end of the video, which is pure headline bait, Fall Guys also has a cat costume lined up for Season 4 t??hat I must add to my pile of ne??ver-worn outfits.

I wouldn't say Fall Guys necessarily has that gotta-be-there-day-one factor for season debuts to the?? same extent as other mega-popular multiplayer games, but it i?s clawing its way to that status. By the time the Nintendo Switch and Xbox versions are out this summer, I might have a whole new outlook.

Mediatonic will share the Season 4 release date on March 15

It's hard to believe we're almost ready for Season 4 of Fall Guys, but I've given up on my ability to accurately judge the passage of time; leave that to the Sandman. ?As the still-running Season 3 winds down, Mediatonic has begun teasing the?? seven new levels arriving soon-ish with Season 4.

In a clip on Twitter, the stu??dio showed off Skyline Stumble, a traversal-heavy level built for 60 beans. The stage looks challenging in the ways I want to be challenged, with varied obstacles – including pinball flippers, low-gravity zones, and intermi?ttent bridges – as well as routes to plan out.

So yeah! If you hadn't heard, the next seasonal theme for Fall Guys is futuristic. It's a common enough trope, but based on this first gameplay footage, I'm ex?cited to see these levels in the rotation.

According to Mediatonic, the Season 4 release date will be announced on March 15. We also recently learned that Season 4 will have 50 progression/reward levels, no??t the usual 40 levels of Fame.

With a summer 2021 launch window in mind for the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One versions of Fall Guys, players on those platforms are going to have a lot of activities to figure out all at once from the get-go, for better or worse. I wonder if there ?will be more specialized or focused pl?aylists at that point?

Some of my favorite memories with the game were at la?unch, when chaos truly reigned.

Epic Games bought Tonic Games Group, which includes Mediatonic and Fall Guys

In a huge but not exactly surprising move, Epic Games is buying Tonic Games Group, which means developer Mediatonic and Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout are "joining the Epic Games family."

"With our publisher Devolver Digital supporting and championing us along the way with Fall Guys, Foul Play, and Hatoful Boyfriend, we've been able to bring some truly unique experiences to players as an independent studio," said Mediatonic. "Joining forces with Epic will accelerate our plans to improve the game and bring Fall G?uys to as many players as possible, while continuing to support the community."

For now, I wouldn't expect any drastic changes to the game, and current Fall Guys owners should be in the clear – at least for a while – if Epic's Psyonix and Rocket League pickup is anything to go by. (As a reminder, Rocket League is now "unlisted" on the Stea?m store but it's still playable for owners.)

Mediatonic has "nothing to announce right now" for free-to-play plans, but yea?h.

The studio did say that Fall Guys "will remain purchasable on Steam and PlayStatio?n," and that "if you own the game on these platforms [or the upcoming Nintendo Switch or Xbox versions], you'll still be able to play it from there and will re?ceive future updates." Apart from the expected new seasonal updates, Mediatonic also teased features like account systems, cross-play, and squad modes.

"It's no secret that Epic is invested in building the metaverse and Tonic Games shares this goal," said CEO and founder Tim Sweeney. "As Epic works to build this virtual future, we need great creative talent who know how to build powerf?ul games, content, and experiences."

Worth adding: Tonic Games Group also includes The Irregular Corporation and Fortitude Games.

There's no beating Fortnite for the sheer breadth of its media-spanning crossovers, but Fall Guys is no slou?ch, either. If this keeps up, it'll end up being quite a cozy collection of video game characters.

I said this the other day in passing, but I have three give-'em-to-me-now games floating around my brain, and they are Elden Ring, Resident Evil Village, and Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course.

After recently replaying Cuphead in co-op for the first time, I found the game to be as amazing now as it originally felt in 2017 – and I adored the game at launch. Last we heard from Studio MDHR (back in November 2020), The Delicious Last Course was delayed again without a replacement date in tow. I'm trying to be patient, but I'm so antsy to play the DLC. Are the Fall Guys costumes helping? Not really!

Weird fun fact I just noticed: a lot of people are out here Googlin?g Cuphead's age and parents.

Bean there, done that

During last night's Nintendo Direct broadcast, Mediatonic announced that its silly battle royale title Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout was making a heavy, saggy leap onto the Switch platform. This morning, Devolver Digital was quick to let Xbox owners know that they won't be left out, ??as t?he madcap multiplayer title is coming to Xbox One and Xbox Series X this summer.

In case you've been living under a rock, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is an ??en masse multiplayer title in which a huge squad of colorful "beans" battle it out in a sequence of ridiculous rounds that include races, obstacle courses, inertia-based puzzles, wild charges uphill, and many other over-the-top events, all to grab the prestigious crown located at the end of the show. Just like Connor Macloed, there can be only one.

Launching on PS4 and PC in the summer of 2020, Fall Guys was an instant mainstream hit, thanks to its pick-up-and-put-down nature, simple learning curve, and basic control system, pulling in players from all over the globe and raising a lot of laughs and smiles while doing so. Now confirmed for Switch and Xbox, and with a China-exclusive mobile port in the works, it looks as if Fall Guys is set to keep 'em rollin' on in 2021.

It's only a matter of time for Xbox to follow suit

We've been waiting for the Nintendo Switch box to be checked for Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, and later? this year, it will be. Nintend?o confirmed a summer release during today's Direct showcase.

Fall Guys is currently in its third season on PC and PS4, and while it's hard to beat the initial rush when everyone was figur??ing out their ideal traversal routes, there's still a lot ?of joy to be found, particularly with the most recent content push. There's no doubt this game will click with the Switch audience.

I wonder if Mediatonic will save the Switch launch so it's lined up with a new season. More impor?tantly, think of the Nintendo costume potential. I'll be sure to save up my crowns in case of emergency.

Dodge roaming snowballs in the Season 3.5 update

Fall Guys pushed out its Season 3.5 update today with a chaotic ??Snowball S?urvival round, an on-screen Fall Feed to keep you up to date as the competition progresses, and 40 variations for the old stages.

Heck, I'm less interested in figuring out precisely what's been tweaked in the existing levels than I am just revisiting a??ll of this stuff in general. I enjoyed what I've seen of Season 3 but I haven't kept up as much as I'd like. I'm consid??ering this a gentle nudge in that direction. We'll see if I can find the time.

Cross-platform multiplayer is another ambition

Even if Fall Guys isn't coming to Xbox Game Pass as a recent mix-up seemed to imply, it feels like a matter of time before the beany battles spill out onto Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, to say nothing of the immense potential for a mobile version. I, for one, am ready to double-dip ?on Switch. So ready.

What's the latest on the PC and PlayStation exclusivity front? Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Mediatonic CEO Dave Bailey said the team wants Fall Guys "to reach as many people as possible," adding, "We want it to ?come to every major platform, and we're working hard to achieve that."

The interview includes a few other interesting tidbits, like how Fall Guys broke even "in about four hours," and why Season 2 felt like a miss to a lot of players, at least? in part: it was "mostly pre-planned as our first update befor?e the game had even launched." Season 3 was much more in-tune with expectations, and Season 4 will "step things up a gear in terms of the excitement," according to Bailey.

He also commented on how Mediatonic is scaling up to meet the "insatiable" appetite for new seasonal content: "...we had to be very careful to not overcommit to things we can't do because there's a lag between hiring new people and growing the content. And we can't just pull everyone from all the other teams, as some fans seem to think – that's just not how it works. We have other projects that we have obligations to and are passionate about continuing to support. Even if we wanted to, we couldn't just put everyone on Fall Guys tomorrow so people will have to bear with us."

There was a brief moment during the Season 2 lull that I worried about the future of Fall Guys, but those thoughts were shoved to ??the back of my mind by an unruly cr??????????????????????????owd of clumsy beans. I'm hopeful.

There's always a chance its popularity will wane – that's the nature of live-service games with rigorous schedules – but more than your average battle-royale shooter, Bailey says "there's a million different ways we can take this [game show ?concept] and I hope people will see that come through in the future."

Enough to throw me off my game (and then some)

We're inching closer toward the mid-season update for Fall Guys, and there's a bit more going on than I was expecting. On the tentative list for Season 3.5: one "brand new" level (which will probably be icy like the rest), 40-plus level tweak??s to freshen up the current stages, a so-called "Fall Feed" to keep tabs on winners and losers while you compete, and the return of So?nic, Godzilla, and Goose Game outfits.

Mediatonic stopped short of saying what the new level or variations would ent??ail, but every little morsel of newness in this game can have a ripple effect on the chaos. I want it to be semi-unpredictable.

According to the team, new shows and costumes w??ill "go live over the coming weeks."

I missed the Godzilla garb the first time around, but I'm ready to drop my saved-up crowns the moment it's back in the shop. (Question for a "friend": is it on- or off-brand for Godzilla to drop an innocent baby penguin int?o the great abyss? And could that crime be the impetus for a feud with King Kong?)

There's bean a mix-up

Devolver Digital has shut down rumors that Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is headed to Xbox Game Pass. The publisher made th??e statement after comments on social media alluded to the arrival of Mediatonic's ba??ttle royale title on Microsoft's gaming service.

The confusion began when the official Xbox Game Pass Instagram account responded to a member of the public asking after the popular multiplayer title. "It's coming," noted Xbox Game Pass, complete with an eyes emoji. Devolver Digital, however, was quick to shut down this confirmation, succinctly stating "that's incorrect" when the comment was later referenced on Twit??ter.

The official Fall Guys Twitter then quickly joined the conversation, categorically stating that there are no plans in the immediate future to add Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout to the Xbox Game Pass service.? Inevitably, the original comment on the Xbox Game Pass Instagram has since been deleted.

Fall Guys has continued its crown-grabbing ways as it enters the new year. Currently in its third season, Fall Guys will soon add some new mid-season content, that will freshen up some of the stages and also create the opportunity for some pegwin-dropping shenanigans!

Winning a crown is great? and all, but have you tried dropping an innocent penguin off a cliff?

Fall Guys Season 3 featured a penguin-carrying level called Pegwin Pursuit that was all boxed in, but Season 3.5 will take things even further. The mid-season update is going to place "pegwins" in more levels – including stages like Tundra?? Run that have bottomless pits – and that sure sounds like a dare.

If you've played Super Mario 64, you know where this is heading. Yo??u know what must be done.

I maintain that Fall Guys is at its best when the lev??els are fresh enough that most players feel like they?'re on equal footing, or when the community creates its own fun with some weird new obsession.

Mediatonic is looking for opinions with a new survey

If you're in the mood for easy crowns in Fall Guys (who isn't?) and you can spare several minutes to fill out a survey about the state of the game and future seasons, Mediatonic would like a quick word. The developer is currently running a survey that Fall Guys players can fill out to earn five free crowns.

The survey is pretty painless as f??ar as these things often go and it ??covers a range of questions about what went right and wrong with the seasonal format so far, but two prompts jumped out at me.

One prompt asks participants to rank the types of rounds they want to see in t?he future, including big race levels, final rounds, survival levels, logic puzzles, team rounds, and player grabbing rounds.

Another forward-looking question asks respondents to pick their five most-wanted features for Fall Guys. Some of the?? suggestions are Squads mode, time trials, tournaments, a training room, split-screen, creator mode, cross-play, private lobbies, voice chat, ranked le?agues, and a 30 vs. 30 mode.

The developers clearly have good ideas for the future of thi?s game – it's just a matter of priorities. If you duck?ed out of Season 2 and haven't been back for Season 3, it's good. Much, much better, in fact.

If you fill out t??he survey, you should get the crowns within a week at most. I need that Cyberdemon.

Choose your fighter

I didn't expect us to talk about the Fall Guys x Doom crossover again until I could say the words "you can dress your bean to look like the Doom Slayer starting today," but then this trailer happened. It turns out that we're actually getting three costumes, not just the predictable Doomguy suit like we thought.

For a limited time starting on January 12, Fall Guys players will be able to score Cyberdemon and Cacodemon costumes in this silly game. I'm one-hundred percent going for the latter. You? This tie-in would be more momentous with a Doom le?vel, but for now, I need t??o worry more about getting crowns.

Though I've only dabbled with Season 3 in a few sessions, I've enjoyed it – far more th?an Season 2.
