Each year, October 23 is deemed Fallout Day, and this time around, Be??thesda is celebrating in style. To kick off celebrations, the developer has made its multiplayer prequel free-to-play?? for a limited time.

It's fair to say that Fallout 76's 2018 launch was nothing short of a disaster. Controversy after controversy marred the release of what should have been an exciting period for the franchise. A multiplayer Fallout game - what could possibly go wrong? As it turns out, quite a lot, but Bethesda in the years since has released plenty of updates and expansions to make Fallout 76 a worth entry into the franchise.

Fallout 76 goes free-to-play until October 29

You've got until October 29 to try Fallout 76 for free across Xbox, PlayStation, and P??C, after which it will become pay-to-play again. This should be plenty of time for you to decide whether Bethesda's multiplayer open world is for you.

It didn't take long at all for Raphael Colantonio's WolfEye Games to show off a bit more about their upcoming immersive sim, as promised mere days ago. Now, while we don't have the title just yet, we do hav??e a wealth of other information, and the alpha is coming.

In a recent interview with Eurogamer, Colantonio talked about the game at som??e length, revealing that it's set in an alternative 1900s America, and it's using the Wild West backdrop to create something new and essentially unrecognizable:

"I think the ?big distinction we're making here is, as far as genre literature goes, this is more like sci-fi literature than it is Wild West or whatever," Colantonio told Eurogamer. "I think the Western is a genre of literature that people associate with certain types of scenarios like revenge or duels in the streets. We don't have any of that."

The Wild?? West, then, is basically the core visual style the game will build its own thing from??. Colantonio describes it as a "steampunk outtake 1900s" sort of thing. Early visual certainly illustrate as much, like the below.

The developer also described it as "somewhere closer to Fallout" in terms of its RPG elements, especially if compared to Dishonored and Prey. It's a promising take, if you're a fan of the oddly oblique immersive sim niche. Those who are particularly keen on seeing it in action might wish to sign up for the game's upcoming alpha testing phase, which you can do via the official website.

According to WolfEye Studios' executive producer Julien Roby, this is basically what the team did with Weird West, though they did so too far along the production pipeline: "We didn't really have time to act on the most major feedback," he explained to Eurogamer. This alpha should, therefore, engage the community early on and help players communi?cate with WolfEye while there's still time to make meaningful, mechanical changes.

It's particularly important that WolfEye Studios has a whole slew of tenured ImSim professionals working with Colantonio to make this mystery game as good as it possibly could be: "It's the same formatio??n of people [from Prey and Dishonored] who are now with us, so we already know what we're doing."

The mystery game's art director, for example, is Emmanuel Petit, who worked on Prey as the lead visual designer. Before that, Petit was Dishonored's level artist, which means he's got plenty of pedigree by now.? At the same time, WolfEye still counts only about 60 employees in total, which means this ??won't be an AAA-scope project in any sense of the word.

In summary, then, ImSim fans have something new and interesting to look forward to, but it won't be coming out anytime soon. The important bit is that it seemingly is coming, though, and with WolfEye at the helm, there's much to be excit?ed about.

Considered to be the greatest Fallout game ever made, Fallout: New Vegas is simply screaming out for a follow-up from Obsidian Entertainment. Sadly, nearly 14 years later and we still haven't had a new Fallout from the Avowed studio. Oh well, at least we stil?l have plenty of mods to keep us amused.

And amused I am, thanks to this one from Nexus Mods user SadWeeble in which NPCs in New Vegas literally explode randomly. The game itself is already ??known for its dark humor and elements of the slightly absurd, so this should basically fit right into your normal playthrough.

SadWeeble describes it as turning the was?teland into the "tensest game of Hot Potato." Imagine just strolling through the Vegas Strip or the Mojave Desert itself, only to see the denizens and Wastelanders flip and ragdoll via an explosion that leaves very little time to say goodbye to personal limbs.

Customizable booms

It? gets better, as well. The mod creator has also added in some custom settings to allow you to configure the randomness of NPCs exploding. You can, for example, change the delay before said NPC goes all boom. You can change the explosion "type," reward yourself some XP each time someone explod??es, and mark essential characters as ones to ignore.

The only downside perhaps is you do need a few more downloads for this one to?? work. SadWeeble says in order to get "NPCs Randomly Explode" to?? work, you'll need the following:

• The New Vegas Script Extender
• The JIP LN NVSE Plugin
• The SUP NVSE Plugin
• The Mod Configuration Menu (optional)

I recently replayed Fallout: New Vegas, having not picked it up for a few years. One thing people typically praise the game for is its story and writing. It has a certain levity to it that offsets the somewhat bleak aspects of living in a post-apocalyptic world, something that Bethesda can't quite measure up to. I know I'm definitely not alone in hoping Obsidian will give us a New Vegas 2 at some point.

I always wished that the board games of the Fallout universe had playable modules similar to the arcade holotapes found in each game. Whitespring Refuge

A primary player hub and the all-around best location for many scavenging materials, Whitespring Refuge is home to five boa??rd games in the Rec Room on the west end of the building. Since this is one of the most popular locations in the game, you may have to hop worlds during primetime hours to find ?a world that other players haven't picked clean.

Eta Psi House

The only instanced building in Fraternity Row, the Eta Psi House also contains five board games scattered through the rooms of the residence. There are also rare Nuka-Cola spawns and other valuable junk items in the hous??e, which makes this location a wort?hy stop if you need to knock out many Seasonal Challenges at once.

Putnam Residence

Found in the Lewis and Sons Farming Supply POI, this barn house is quick and easy to drop into and speed loot the board games and other junk items. There's also a conven??ient crafting table inside so you can scrap your inventory and keep your pack light.

Grafton Pawn Shop

Located in the city of Grafton, the pawn shop is an instanced building with an assortment of goodies. While the items aren't as numerous as the other locations in this guide, there are three board games which are enough to fulfill the requirements for the Seasonal Challenge. There's also a Tin??ker's Workbench which allows you to scrap all of the items collected in the shop.

Bethesda's Fallout 3 was the beginning of a new era for the post-apocalyptic, RPG series. When it released in 2008, it shot the cult, former-isometric franchise to overnight stardom, but it was likely a long way from what the third entry would wind up. For you see, Fallout 3 (codenamed Van Buren at one point) was once helmed by original developer Black Isle Studios, but was sadly cancelled several years before the Elder Scrolls creator took over.

Skip forward to today, and we now have a sort of revival of the game. Modders have brought this original concept to life, or at least their interpretation of what they felt it was going to be. As spotted by Insider Gaming, user PJ Hexer "and co" have unleashed Fallout Yesterday, a mod for Fallout 2 that purports to carry on what Black Isl??e never got to c??omplete.

The mod is described as a "fan-made implementation of the original, canceled Fallout 3," which has been built inside the second game's engine. As a result, it retains the more isometric, turn-based approach that the seri??es was originally known for back in the 19??90s.

As it was (maybe) intended

Fallout Yesterday boasts a brand-new storyline (no doubt taking cues from the long-dead Van Buren project), multiple races, traits and perks, new items, weapons, locations, and plenty more to be getting on with. The modders describe it as the "biggest Fallout game ev??er." Whether they're referring to Black Isle's intended vision or this ?particular mod remains to be seen.

If you have Fallout 2, this may be one to check out, espec??ially if you pine for the days of the classic, role-playing shenanigans of a bygone PC?? era. To this end, older fans will appreciate what PJ Hexer and co have attempted to accomplish here.

The cancellation of Van Buren back in 2003 is definitely one of those "what if" situations. If this had made it to publication, it would have been the official third Fallout game. While it was allegedly going to be more 3D, it's highly unlikely it would have been what we ended with after Bethesda took the reins. The closest we ever go to it, it seems, is this tech demo from 2007, which is described as being "extremely buggy." I very briefly checked it out and, yeah, it's definitely got the beginnings of one?? of the classics.

There are traces of the ill-fated Fallout all over the internet, mentioned in places like IGN's 2017 Obsidian interview or the now-archived VideoGamer New Vegas preview. As you can see, it was to retain the isometric look the earlier games in the series were known for, something that Fallout Yesterday also honors. There was also another attempt to revive the OG with the Van Buren Project, which just hammers home how much fans r??eally wanted t??his to be a thing.

Fallout Yesterday is probably the closest we'll get to ever wondering whether Black Isle Studios' offering would have been as much of a mainstream success as the one we got. Especially given that Fallout 3 is not related to the Van Buren storyline, according to what Wikipedia notes. Had the original released instead, we may never have gotten Fallout 4, Fallout 76, or even �GASP �Fallout: New Vegas; (irradiated) food for thought.

Of all of the Seasonal Challenges in Fallout 76, the item acquisition quests are among the most tedious. Throughout your journey, you'll get an idea of where to fight particular enemy types or where to farm junk items for scrap quests. But what about when the Seasonal Challenges task you with finding an a??ssortment of Teapots? It isn't immediately obvious how to go about completing these types of quests.

To make matters worse, the one POI that sounds perfect for the task of gathering Teapots, The Giant Teapot, only has one measly Teapot in the area. But fret not,?? this guide will save you the trouble of scouring t??he Appalachian Wasteland for tea party supplies.

The best locations for finding Teapots in Fallout 76

Palace of the Winding Path

The Palace of the Winding Path is by far the greatest farming location for Teapots in Fallout 76; There's simply no better alternative. Although?? we'll mention a few other locations, there isn't any reason to go anywhere other than the Palac?e of the Winding Path. You can expect to find up to 14 Teapots around the POI, which is over three times as many as the other locations in the game.

Helvetia

Helvetia is one of the simpler town layouts in Fallout 76. You can expect to find up to four Teapots within the various buildings of the town. If, for some reason, the Palace of the Winding Path is fully looted in every world you jump to, Helvetia is the only alternative locati?on worth traveling to.

Appalachian Antiques

It makes sense that Teapots can be found at? an antique store. But compared to the other locations above, traveling to the southern end of the map for two Teapots might not be worth the fast-travel cost.

Dolly Sods Wilderness

There aren't many reasons to come out to Dolly Sods Wilderness, but there are two Teapots that can be found here. One of them is on?? a shelf in the gift shop behind Scout Leader Treadly, while the other is on top of the stove in the house west of the Ranger Cabin.

Despite having many different types o??f junk items that yield fiberglass, two of these items stand out. Composite Skis and Telephones are the best items for farming fiberglass since they can be conveniently found in large quantities across the Appalachian Wasteland.

Composite Skis at Pleasant Valley Ski Resort

The Pleasant Valley Ski Resort is the premier location for finding Composite Skis in Fallout 76. This Composite Ski farming run is simple:

1. Fast travel to the Pleasant Valley Ski Resort and collect Composite Skis that are found on racks outside of each building.
2. Head inside the main resort building and down to the vendor area where Ski Swords can be found.
3. Collect Ski Swords throughout the building since these scrap into Composite Skis.
4. After clearing out the area, leave the main building and head towards Top of the World. Along the path are crafting stations you can use to scrap your junk and manage your carry weight if it's already become an issue.
5. Loot Composite Skis from the many racks found around the Top of the World elevator area.
6. The Mezzanine Floor of Top of the World has a ton of Composite Skis and Ski Swords. Loot every room and rack that you come across.
7. Take the elevator to the Observation Floor and grab the two Composite Skis found next to Rose.

Total fiberglass yield: 41

Telephones and Abraxo Cleaner Industrial Grade at Whitesprings

The Whitesprings Resort is a safe zone inside of the refuge and mall areas. Since it's filled with Telephones, this is safer and easier t?han the Composite Ski farming run. Although Telephones scrap into one unit of Fiberglass as opposed to two, this farming run is much simpler and doesn't require as ?much running around.

1. Begin at the Whitesprings Refuge fast travel point. Loot all of the Telephones found throughout the vendor rooms and office areas.
2. Check each of the laundry and maintenance rooms (most of them have a sign that says "Employees Only") and loot any Abraxo Cleaner Industrial Grade that you can find.
3. After clearing the Refuge, move to the Whitesprings Mall section of the building and repeat the process.
4. With the Refuge and Mall cleared, head outside and loot all of the service buildings adjacent to the main Whitesprings Resort building. There are many Abraxo Cleaner Industrial Grade spawns along with other valuable junk items in these buildings.

Total fiberglass yield: 20

The Whitesprings farming run yields half as much Fiberglass as the Pleasant Valley Ski Resort, but it's free of hostiles, a??nd the?? building layout is easier to traverse. Either location will provide more than enough Fiberglass to satisfy the Seasonal Challenge requirements. If you're crafting many Fiberglass-heavy C.A.M.P. objects, you can always do both runs in succession to get 61 Fiberglass rather quickly.

It seems like fate that Larian Studios, the minds behind the sword-and-sorcery Divinity: Original Sin franchise, found its way into Baldur's Gate, but it could have easily been a completely different fan-favorite franchise: Fallout.

Speaking with Edge Magazine, Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke revealed that Baldur's Gate III was one of only a handful of titles it considered at the time. However, it also considered making pitches for a new Ultima or Fallout.

Ultimately, Larian went with Baldur's Gate III, as the franchise was languishing following the closure of Black Isle Studios. Svicke tells Edge it was a franchise he knew would get plenty of traction, saying Baldur's Gate was "one ??of those IPs that you know a lot of people will want to work on."

Still, it is bittersweet to imagine a world where Larian could apply that same love and care Baldur's Gate got to a new Fallout. As I write this, I am on the cusp of finishing Baldur's Gate III (finally!), and I am losing my mind thinking about how great this world-building would be for a Fallout game. Baldur's Gate nailed exploration, world-building, and party dynamics in a way that fans have been begging Fallout to for years.

Tapping the people who made the biggest RPG in the world to create a new Fallout seems like a no-brainer. The franchise is bigger than ever thanks to the success of the Prime Video series, and it sure sounds like Fallout 5 is a very, very long way away. Given all the ways Microsoft is struggling to justify raising prices and creating new Game Pass tiers, a new Fallout would g??o a long way to ?earning back some goodwill.

Unfortunately, we're not likely to get something as majestic as a Larian Studios-developed Fallout. The previous third-party swing at a Fallout game, Fallout: New Vegas, is hailed as one of the best entries in the storied franchise, but Bethesda seems reluctant to let another company work on Fallout again. It came to light just last year that Bethesda had rejected multiple pitches for spin-offs for both Fallout and The Elder Scrolls from New Vegas dev Obsidian Entertainment.

For now, you'll have to make do with the various fan projects, like Fallout: London (assuming it isn't broken again by an update) or this gorgeous concept for Fallout in Unreal Engine 5. That, or hope modders slap a coat of Fallout paint on Baldur's Gate.

Despite how vast the Fallout games typically are and how much there is to do, it seems some fans just ??want more. Which is perfectly understandable, but instead of tweaking the vanilla releases with extra content, some decide to just straight-up make a different version of the post-apoca?lyptic series.

As spotted by DSO Gaming, a developer called Milwaukee Games has set about creating their own Fallout. While it's still in the prototype stages at this point, the project is notable for using the Unr??eal Engine 5. Check it out below. Ooh. Look at all that shinine?ss!

To clarify: it doesn't appear to be a remake of any of the current games that are out. It seems like it's more of a separate entity, but made inside the Fallout universe. Look, there's a Mr. Handy robot!

Will we get to play this Fallout game?

There's no way of knowing how far Milwaukee Games will go with this. Whether we'll see it fleshed out into a full game with an expansive storyline or it'll be used as a sort of tech demo, it's hard to say. However, it seems as though the deve?loper may be planning to release a build at some point.

In the YouTube description, as well as mentioning a behind-the-scenes type of video that's coming, the message asks whether anyone would be interested in testing it. This m??eans that it's technically "playable," so there might be a download available at some point in the future.

It should be noted that the footage above was posted back in April, and there don't appear to have been many updates on the project since. Still, it's one to keep an eye on in case we do get to play a Fallout game as imagine??d in Unreal Engine. These a??re the good times. Possibly.

The highest-quality eggs in Fallout 76 come from the ferocious Deathclaws of Appalachia and are required for two high-lev??el recipes and Seasonal Challenges. You'd have to be a brave breakfast connoisseur to sneak into a Deathclaw nest and steal their precious eggs. Luckily for you, we've compiled the best Deathclaw Egg spawns in Fallout 76, and only two of them are found amongst the alpha predators of the wasteland.

The best Deathclaw Egg spawn locations in Fallout 76

Deathclaw Eggs are the rarest egg variety in the game. There's only one guaranteed spawn for these eggs in all of Fallout 76. You can find one Deathclaw Egg in a cup on a shelf in the Vault 63 Atrium security office. To complete the Daily Seasonal Challenges, you'll only? need to obtain a single Deathclaw Egg. So, with this guaranteed spawn, you won't have a reason to re-roll the Deathclaw Egg quest ever again.

There are also a few Deathclaw Eggs around the wasteland that aren't guaranteed spawns. With a 50% chance of spawning the eggs, it'll take some time for you to fill up your inventory to cook a large batch of Deathclaw Egg Omelettes or Deathclaw Wellingtons. Here are the egg spawns that are free of any mother Deathclaws so you don't have to walk on eggshells to acquire the??m:

• Arktos Pharma - One Deathclaw Egg can spawn in the Protein Sequencer room in the bottom-right corner of a metal shelf.
• Enclave Research Facility - One egg next to a Mirelurk Egg in a display case. The room contains a dead snallygaster on an autopsy table.
• Monorail Elevator - One spawns on the second level's workstation roof on a picnic blanket.

Then for those that are a little daring, there are three more egg spawns with ?50% spawn rates inside of D??eathclaw nests. If you don't mind sneaking or battling the Deathclaws in the vicinity, these locations are ripe for the picking:

• Abandoned Waste Dump - One Deathclaw Egg around the third Deathclaw nest on the left side after descending the ramp.

  • Along with this 50% spawn-rate egg, there are 1-3 eggs that have a 13.3% chance to spawn in the southwest corner of the cave in this POI. Despite the low percentage, it's worth checking out whenever you make your rounds.

• Deathclaw Island - Two Deathclaw Eggs can spawn within the Deathclaw's nest to the left and right of a suitcase.

When last we heard about the ambitious Fallout 4 mod Fallout: London, the team had to delay the project due to Bethesda releasing a big update for the base game. We still don't know wh?en it's coming out, but it looks as though we're just moments away fro??m a release date.

A recent message posted on Team FOLON's Discord channel �as mentioned on X/Twitter as well �Fallout: London is just waiting for the "final green light" from Good Old Games before the mod is ready to launc?h. The developer has sent "several builds over to GOG for QA testing," so it just seems to be a waiting game at th?e moment.

Once this has been done, the team says it "should be good to go," but we still don't know for certain when that will be exactly. Could be days. Could be hours. Honestly, any ideas at this point will be? pure speculation.

What is Fallout: London, again?

As with pretty much any Bethesda game, the vanilla experience is often vastly improved with the help of dedicated fans and those in the modding community. Fallout: London is no different, expect it's a proj??ect that has a ton of ambition.

As the name suggests, it brings a post-apocalyptic universe to the English capital city, thanks to a heavily modified version of Fallout 4. It's being referred to as "DLC-sized," thanks t?o its huge scope. It adds in a ??new story, new factions, new weapons, and new enemies. It's basically newness all the way down.

As for what you can ex??pect to find in there, regulars to London sh??ould recognize the decayed ruins of places like Islington, Hackney, Westminster, Croydon, Lewisham, the City of London itself, and more. Team FOLON is not messing about with this project.

It is a bit of a shame it had to be delayed. It wasn't an easy decision for the modders to make, especially as Fallout: London was scheduled for release on April 23 (St. George's Day, natch). However, Bethesda then announced the launch date for the long-awaited "next-gen" patch for F4, which rolled ou??t on April 25, meaning the mod needed more work to take into account the update.

Once it releases, Fallout: London will be available on GOG.com, hence waiting for this last green light. You'll be able to download it for free so long as you have legitimate copies of the main game, plus all the official DLC. Currently, it's only coming to PC, with no plans for a console port just yet. The Nuka-Cola flavored beverages tend to share spawn locations. While these spots aren't guaranteed to have Nuka-Grape (or any flavored Nuka-Cola?) they are worth checking in case you're low on caps or couldn't buy enough Nuka-Grape from the vendors.

• One Nuka-Grape can be found in a locker inside TNT Dome #7 at the Black Mountain Ordnance Works POI.

  • The dome requires a key obtained by a scavenger hunt unlisted quest. A pair of keycards from Kanawha Nuka-Cola plant and Tanagra Town are needed to enter the Overlook Cabin which has the TNT Dome Key #7 inside.

• One can occasionally be found in the Eta Psi House's basement, in the Nuka-Cola room.
• One can be found in a safe at Grafton Steel Underground but requires 2+ hacking skill to unlock it.

• North wing, third floor

  • The third door on the right side, past the metal doors (1 MAB)
  • The third door on the left past the metal doors (1 MAB)
  • In the room across from the elevator (2 MABs)
  • First room on the right past the Brotherhood of Steel doors (2 MABs)

Camp McClintock

Camp McClintock has one less Military Ammo Bag than Fort Defiance, but it is just as easy of a location to farm ??Ballistic Fiber.

• After fast traveling to Camp McClintock, turn around and head down the road. 2 MABs can be found next to a soldier's corpse.
• Ground floor of the main building

  • Behind the front desk (1 MAB)
  • In a locker across from the front desk (1 MAB)

• The left barracks - On a shelf on the back wall of the barracks (1 MAB)

Early on in your journey into post-apocalyptic Appalachia, you’ll likely come across a forlorn Teddy Bear in a doghouse close to Vault 76. If you’re a collector, you’ll be happy to learn that there are 13 different Teddy Bears to discover in Fallout 76, and you’re go??ing to ??want to know where to find them.

Tyler County Fairgrounds

The Teddy Bears spawn in various spots all over the expanding Fallout 76 map, but there is one location that will net you the majority of the bears in one go. You'll find 10 different bear varieties scattered around the Tyler?? County Fairgrounds, and there are only a few squishy ghouls protecting the area.

• Bubblegum Bear â€?On the Ferris wheel next to a skeleton
• Bumblebear â€?Sitting at the top of the slides
• Comrade Chubs â€?Lying on the ground inside the ride with blue chairs
• Imported Chinese Panda â€?Sitting next to a Quantum Bear in the shooting gallery. On a folding chair on the right side of the fairgrounds
• Pristine Bear â€?Riding a lion in the carousel
• Quantum Bear â€?Inside the metal flying saucer next to the popcorn and cotton candy stand
• Radbear â€?Inside the shed with the workshop

Lady Janet’s Soft Serve

You’ll still be missing a few Teddy Bears even after cleaning out the fairgrounds. He??ad to Lady Janet’s Soft Serve located east of the Tyler County Fairgrounds to grab two more.

The Burrows North

Dirty Old Teddy Bear might be the most difficult to find, simply because of the location. The Burrows, in the Harpers Ferry area of Fallout 76, is underground and accessible through a manhole in the street. You’ll want to take the north entrance, and there will be a few ghouls lurking inside.

As you run around this slightly maze-like area, you might come across some metal tables with dumbbells on top and three Teddy Bears on the bottom shelf. If you’ve hit the Tyler County Fairgrounds first, you won’t need any of these. Continue fighting your way through, and when you reach a recreatio??n area with a pool tab??le and a pinball machine, you’ll know you’re on the right track.

Turn around and go through the doorway directly across from the rec room. When you come to the blue “Protect Yourself�poster, turn right. In this room, on a table underneath the stairs to the right, you’ll fin?d the Dirty Old Teddy Bear.

Lost Home and the One-Eyed Souvenir Bear

This last one is a bit of a bonus, as it doesn’t quite match the other Teddy Bears in the game. You’ll need to head to the Lost Home all the way in the southeast corner of the map. Be wary at the entrance because there’s a tripwire, but there are no enemies here. Once inside, go around to the left and look for a red doghouse. There, you’ll find the One-Eyed Souvenir Bear in a sorry state.

Though you can find most of these bears in other locations, this path will get you all 13 (or 14 if you count poor Souvenir Bear) in the shortest amount of time. With that done, you can turn your attention to collecting all the other toys scattered around Fallout 76, or go hunting for Bobbleheads and magazines.

Long-time fans of Fallout will no doubt be familiar with the name Timothy (or Tim) Cain. As the creator of the series, as well as having a prolific career in video game development overall, his name is often associated with the post-apocalyptic serie??s, at least when it all began.

While Cain hasn't worked on a Fallout game since he left the sequel's production, it hasn't stopped fans fr??om asking if he'll ever make a triumphant return. In a recent video, the veteran programmer not only waxes lyrical about some of the projects he?'s worked on over the years, but ponders what it would take to encourage him to go back to the world he helped create.

If you're a fan of Cain's work in any respect, the above video is definitely interesting. To hear what a respected developer with an impressive resume has to say about his own career is worth a watch. However, it doesn't look like we'll see him come back to Fallout just yet.

Fallout needs to offer something "different"

Across the whole 17 minutes, Cain talks about what it is that draws him to a certain project. He says that it's not necessarily about money or authority, but about whether the game in question offers s?omething "new."

In the case of Vampire: The Masquerades - Bloodlines, it was an opportunity to work with an engine he hadn't personally designed (in this case: Valve's Source). When it came to South Park: The Stick of Truth, it was about helping to develop a console title for the first time in his career. For The Outer Worlds, it was about getting to work on a sci-fi ??opera game.

With Fallout, Cain essentially says that any upcoming projects being offered to him woul?d have to be more than just a straight-up sequel. It has to interest him personally, with something different that he perhaps hasn't tried before. You have to admire a person who holds on to such convictions after a successful career that spans three decades.

In essence, whether it's a numbered Fallout game, some offshoot that takes place in the same universe (such as New Vegas), or a remake of the very first installment, Tim Cain may well never return to the now Bethesda-owned franchise unless it genuinely intrigues him. He's done the action-based role-playing game set in a post-nuclear wasteland, and it seems unlikely that Fallout will ever budge from its award-winning identity.

There have been many different character creation systems in the Fallout franchise. At its core, the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stat system and perks make up the structure of our protagonists. Fallout 76 has a unique, endgame-focused system known as legendary perks.

While not as build-defining as re?gular perks, ?these perks open up more options for players by adding additional S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats or providing bonuses based on the player’s weapons or armor. 

How to unlock and upgrade legendary perks in Fallout 76

Unlike regular perk cards, legendary perks require significant investment to unlock and upgrade, so care should be taken when deciding which cards ?to add to your character. Legendary perks become available beginning at level 50 and an additional legendary card slot will be unlocked at the following p??layer levels: 50, 75, 100, 150, 200, 300.

Legendary perk cards can be upgraded four times using perk points and have an increased cost with each upgrade. Unlike the regular perk cards, these cards don’t have any S.P.E.C.I.A.L. requirements so there isn’t any reason not to fully upgrade them to get their maximum benefits. Here are the costs for upgrading legendary pe??rk cards:

• Level 1: 0 points 
• Level 2: 50 points
• Level 3: 100 points
• Level 4: 150 points

Players should be committed to their build before deciding which legendary perks to invest in. Not only are perk points hard to come by, but changing out legendary cards will cost 1 perk point each time. Perk points are required to upgrade each card and at the moment,? can only be acquired by:

• Scrapping standard perk cards for 2 perk points per card level. 
• 50 perk points can be chosen as a reward in the final pages of the Season rewards. 

The best legendary perks in Fallout 76

There are currently 26 legendary perks in Fallout 76 each offering a variety of bonuses to players. Every build requires different bonuses so the best perk for one player might not be?? useful at all to another. This list will be based on what perks are best for the characters that can use them, with extra consideration for the perks that can fit into any possible build. Let’s start with what perks should be avoided entirely.

• Blood Sacrifice
• Brawling Chemist
• Electric Absorption
• Exploding Palm
• Funky Duds
• Power Armor Reboot
• Retribution
• Sizzling Style
• Survival Shortcut
• What Rads

Due to the high cost and time required to upgrade legendary perks, these cards should be avoided. They either offer redundant bonuses such as generating a chem every 30 minutes, or their bonuses pale in comparison to regular perk cards. Nine times out of 10, it’s much ??better to simply pick a legendary S.P.E.C.I.A.L. perk card instead of any of these. 

15. Power Sprinter

This perk only affects those who are using Power Armor, but it’s very useful for PA builds since many builds in the game utilize V.A.T.S. Keeping your Action Points to??pped up while still being able to dash around the battl?efield will enhance both your offensive and defensive capabilities. 

14. Master Infiltrator

While there aren’t any combat benefits with this perk, it’s one of the best quality-of-life perks in Fallout 76. I??t ?isn’t recommended to invest in this as your first legendary perk, but it’s a convenient addition to any build. 

13. Taking One for the Team

It’s?? easier than ever to jo??in a team to meet the requirements for this perk. You can either team up with an alt, join somebody’s public team, or create a public team of your own. If you create a public team, you’ll be considered a member of a team for this bonus�even if nobody joins up.

12. Legendary Endurance

Of all of the legendary S.P.E.C.I.A??.L. perks, Endurance is the least beneficial to boost. Many of the Endurance perks provide mundane benefits and those that are decent tend to suffer from diminishing returns. Most builds will find more benefits from any of the other S.P.E.C.I.A.L. perks.

11. Legendary Charisma

Most builds consider Charisma to be a “dump statâ€?and keep it low so that they have more points for other stats. Charisma perks simply aren’t a?s impactful as those of the other stats. But t??here are a few perks that can be fit into all builds such as Tenderizer, Lone Wanderer, or Inspirational that justify this card. 

10.  Legendary Strength

The weapon-specific perks (such as big guns, shotguns, or melee) found in Strength can usually be taken by their respective builds without the need for additional points. But for those who want to take advantage of the quality of life cards such as Strong Back or the perks that reduce the weight of various item types, this card isn’t a bad option. Strength is also an excellent stat on its own since high carry weight is essential in Fallout 76.

9. Hack and Slash

Melee builds don’t get a lot of love, but this perk is by far one of the most impactful for melee characters. Triggering a VATS critical along w??ith this perk will quickly clear most packs of enemies in the game. 

8. Collateral Damage/Far-Flung Fireworks

These perks are essentially the same effect but for melee and ranged builds respectively. The explosion effect is a welcome bonus to damage during high-volume events. The 20% chance is deceiving, since in combat it feels m?ore like 40% with how consistent it triggers. 

7. Detonation Contagion

While this perk looks very similar to the two above, there’s a reason it is ranked higher. Grenades receive the benefit of most legendary modifiers from your equipped weapon. Because of this, a common speed-farming method is to equip a bloodied or instigating weapon and then toss Nuka grenades to decimate entire instances of enemies. With Detonation Contagion, those grenades cause chain explosions and drastically reduce the farming time in these strategie?s. 

6. Ammo Factory

Another non-combat perk, Ammo Factory offers a significant bonus to ammo crafting. In the endgame when players transition to ultracite ammo, making more ammo from fewer resources is one of the top quality-of-life bonuses in the game??. It’s worth noting that this perk stacks multiplicatively with Ammosmith to provide a 450% bonus at max ranks. 

5. Legendary Perception

Perception is home to the rifle perk cards which are the most popular builds in Fallout 76. For those builds, an extra five perk points can make a big difference. The only th??ing holding back th?is legendary perk card is how perception doesn’t offer much to other types of builds. Concentrated Fire and Grenadier are the only notable perception perks for other builds and can be picked up without investing in this legendary perk. 

4. Legendary Luck

Luck is one of the best stats in the game for any build. The stat alone increases the condition of items found along with increasing the critical gain for each attack?? in VATS. Regardless of the weapon used, any build benefits from the VATS, sneak, and critical effects found in the Luck perk cards. It also contains the best universal damage bonus, Bloody M??ess. 

3. Follow Through

One of the highest damage increases in Fallout 76, Follow Through is a must for any ranged build. Even if you’re not running a sneak bui?ld, most fights can begin from stealth and end within 10 seconds. 

2. Legendary Agility

Agility is one of the top S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats for many reasons. It contains staple perks for nearly every build in the ??game. Gun? Fu, Dodgy, and Covert Operative have their place in every meta build. The Agility stat itself also increases the number of Action Points available, making it the most versatile stat in the game.

1. Legendary Intelligence

Power armor and energy weapon users will find most of their respective perks in the Intelligence category. But that’s not why Legendary Intelligence is the? number one on this list. The Intelligence stat increases the amount of experience gained from all sources by 2.072% per point. By utilizing buffs and speciali??zed equipment, players can reach over 81 Intelligence, gaining a 167.832% increased experience gain. 

Increased experience is an underrated benefit. Leveling up grants you perk cards which as we mentioned before, can be scrapped for perk points. Gaining experience is also the easiest way to inc??rease your Season Pas?s level. This means that even after you’ve max-ranked every legendary perk card available, you’ll still reap rewards from gaining experience. 

That’s why Legendary Intelligence is not only the best legendary perk card, but is also a recommended first choice. Slot it in, rank it up, and you’ll unlock the subsequent legendary card slots much faster than you woul??d have otherwise.

But often, hunting them down is a necessity and can result in some useful items. Radtoads, the giant post-nuclear version of a frog, is one of the less appealing mutants, with multiple eyes and exploding eggs. So just where can you find these delightful creatures, a??nd what are they good for?

“Deal a Critical Hit to a Radtoad�Daily Quest

One of the first reasons you may seek out these giant amphibians is to complete the daily quest called “Deal a Critical Hit to a Radtoad.�It's a simple enough ask, and the quest actually teaches you the best way to down these mutants without having to deal with their troublesome attacks: from a distance with a crit hit. But before that, you must find one, and Radtoads in Fallout 76 spawn in a few specific areas in Appalachia.

Radtoad spawn locations

• Beckwith Farm â€?Low chance to spawn
• The Forest â€?Throughout the area
• Grafton â€?On the outskirts of the town
• Helvetia â€?The first wave of enemies to appear during the “Fasnacht Dayâ€?event

Increased Carry Weight

While slaughtering Radtoads, you’ll likely pick up eggs and legs, both of which can be use??d in cooking. The eggs make a Radtoad omelette that provi??des some health regen and a slight endurance boost. The real gems are the legs, though, which can give a nice increase to your Carry Weight.

Cooking legs with Wood will result in Grilled Radtoad and +10 Carry Weight for 30 minutes. But chowing down on Fried Radtoad Legs will get you +20 Carry Weight, doubled if you have the Carnivore mutation, along with +6??0 HP and 20% Food.

Taming a Radtoad

If you have the Animal Friend perk equipped, Radtoads in Fallout 76 can also be tamed and sent to defend your C.A.M.P. Ther??e are nearly a dozen variants of the critters, and they can all be tamed. So after you’ve taken one out for the daily quest and chopped up a few more for stat boosts, it?? might be worth taking a tour to see the different varieties and make one your pet.

Video game remakes are all the rage nowadays, and with the Fallout series enjoying a boon in popularity thanks to the Amazon TV show, some might think Bethesda should put out a remake of one of the older Fallout games. Especially since Fallout 5 won't be a thing for a very, very, very long time. Surprisingly, Bethesda's own Todd Howard has shot down the possibility of remaking either of the first two Fallout games.

Earlier this week, Howard spoke with YouTuber MrMattyPlays about the future of the Fallout series (via VGC), where he was asked if Bethesda would ever remake the original Fallout games. Those first two games are quite different to their successors, being isometric turn-based RPGs. Ever since Bethesda bought the IP from InterPlay Productions, though, the Fallout games have been action-RPGs wit??h real-time combat set in open worlds.

Newer fans more familiar with the current games may not find those first two Fallout titles as appealing, so Howard was asked if Bethesda has ever considered updating or modernising them. Turns out the answer is no, and it's because, according to Howard, "the main priority for us is to make sure they’re available and you can still play them" (you can hear his comments from the 21:05 mark in the video above). As he pointed out, the first two Fallout games are currently on PC via Steam, so it's not like ?they're a nightmare to track down. They're also very cheap, both costing only $9.99/£7.??99, and you don't need a super powerful PC to run them.

Howard also suggested that any sort of major update to those early Fallout games would risk sanding off some of their charm: "I would never want to paste over some of that [charm] with "Well, we changed how this works so it’s more modern". So as long as you can download it, as long as it loads u??p and runs, I think I’d like people to experience it the way it was."

I honestly respect this approach to ensuring games can be played as originally intended. Even if the older games are a bit dated, it's important that they remain available for the sake of preservation. Howard did add that console ports of Fallout 1 and 2 aren't a priority either, which is a bit of a shame, but such an effort would admittedly require a lot of time and resources. As Howard put it, "You have to ask yourself "Is that where we want to put our time right now or is it best played the way it was on PC?" and I think right n??ow the best way to play it is on a PC [with a] mouse and keyboard."

If Bethesda would rather ensure its older games are simply available, rather than remaking them, this should hopefully mean the Fallout team is putting all its energy into new entries as well as more Fallout 76 content. Even so, Fallout 5 won't be a thing until The Elder Scrolls 6 has ??launched, and that gam??e also lacks a release date.
