While it's sad that some double-A exclusives like Gravity Rush 2 and LittleBigPlanet 3 have fizzled from PlayStation's priority list??, there are still grand single-player campaigns that will take your breath away. Marvel’s Spider-Man series

If you're a big comic book fan or just like action games in general, you can't go wrong with Marvel's Spider-Man series from Insomniac Games. Web slinging feels the best it's ever been, evolving the system from the beloved Spider-Man 2 PS2 game and letting you do tricks in the air. Boss battles are immensely important and truly up the stakes of the storyline. Finally, this Marvel version of New York is so detailed as you're beating up foes across the stunning map with a glorious battle system. The follow-up based on Miles Morales is also stellar, perhaps outdoing the original game, with an elevated battle system and intense, drama-filled story. Now's a good time to get into the series as Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered is getting a standalone release on PS5.

God of War series

If you love single-player games on PS5, you owe it to yourself to play the Norse God of War series. I personally found the PS2 and PS3 entries hard to get into. The action gets repe?titive, there are oddly? placed puzzles, and the harsh overtones of Kratos' personality repelled me. However, this new reboot-quel with Kratos as a father is a game changer. The way Kratos evolves past his violent origins and grows as a person is refreshing. Both of these games act as a fantastic coming-of-age story for his son Atreus as well. The combat takes a slower, more methodical third-person approach. The axe feels satisfying to wield, and the powers Kratos attains over the course of the series make you feel strong. There are plenty of cinematic bosses that amaze you too.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart hosts some of the best PS5 graphics, bar none. Reviewers often say this series looks like a Pixar film for a? good reason, and I agree. But it's not just a tour-de-force of graphics, however. This sci-fi game features two engaging platforming heroes tryin?g to save the multiverse from Dr. Nefarious and company. Most of the guns on offer pack a punch, like the Shatterbomb, while other weapons turn your enemies into cute objects like pixels with the Pixelizer. The storyline is also impactful and gets surprisingly emotional.

The Last of Us Part I

Talking about emotional stories, The Last of Us Part I will leave you weeping. This post-apocalyptic has you play as Joel, a father who lost their child, and connects with a girl named Ellie as they face the harsh zombie-filled environment. Yes, they're called the Infected (not zombies, per se), but what makes them unique is how they have to listen to the environment to know where you are. It gets creepy as you have to slowly work your way through dark hallways to succeed. Otherwise, they'll come rampaging toward you, and you need your wits to shoot them in the correct?? spots. What's even scarier, perhaps, are the people you meet along the way, and the storyline gets very heavy as Joel and Ellie try to keep themselves alive. It's one of the best PS5 single-player games because of how intense it gets. I haven't even ??gotten into the impressive graphics, either.

Elden Ring

Elden Ring is a tough S.O.B., but the grind is well worth your time as you defeat tough bosses with a big smile on your face and scale across a dangerous fantasy landscape. I've personally never connected with a Souls game, but for some reason, Elden Ring grabbed me. The open world allows you to explore, challenge other bosses, and level up at your own speed. You can find mysterious areas naturally, get awesome loot, and then attempt to defeat a tough boss once more. That game loop is absolutely engrossing and far better than the linear Souls style as you finally have options. You're not stuck with one boss over and over and over again. The world-building is also a strength of the game, ?with gorgeous scenery and architecture to gaze at.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

I'll say it. This game is better than the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies. The characters are written so well and are different enough from the Hollywood versions. There's a fantastic character arc for Eidos Montreal's interpretation of Starlord, and you truly feel the connection between all of the members of the group. The script is also quite funny. The third-person shooting gameplay is thrilling as you're zooming around foes with your jet boots and instructing the squad on what to d??o. Bosses also feel like a big deal in this game.

Final Fantasy VII Remake: Intergrade

If you need an RPG to play on your PS5, Final Fantasy VII Remake: Intergrade is ready for you. With spectacular visuals, fast-paced yet strategic combat, and an engrossing storyline, this game will grab you from beginning to end. The music is also phenomenal. The Intergrade edition comes with a chapter that in??troduces Yuffie int??o the mix that you can't play on the PS4.

Astro’s Playroom

Want a game that the kids (or your inner child) can play? Astro's Playroom is a wonderful pick. It fully uses the DualSense controller's functionality, such as the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, to make a memorable experience. The platforming is some of the best the PS5 has to offer, as well. Additionally, it references great moments in PlayStation's long history. The best part is that Astro's Playroom is free to download!

Resident Evil 4 Remake

This is an almost perfect horror game. Stunning graphics, a creepy environment, an epic story, tough bosses, and stellar third-person shooting gameplay. The puzzles are also a treat in Resident Evil 4 Remake. Th?ere's not much else to say other tha?n pick this game up.

Horizon series

While the sequel, Forbidden West, covers familiar ground in terms of its gameplay, it's still a tour-de-force of graphics. The unique robot-filled post-apocalyptic setting is striking. You also have some stellar performances by Ashley Burch (Aloy) and the rest of the cast. The storyline is also intriguing as we learn bits and pieces about why our civilization failed many years ago. Horizon: Zero Dawn is an incredible open-world game as you upgrade your gear and defeat titanic robots along the way, strategically breaking their parts until they fall. Forbidden West is still impressive, but to me, fails to capture my interest as much a?s the original.

Honorable Mentions

There are some other stand-out titles that didn't quite make the Best PS5 single-player games list. One of them that is likely mentioned in the comments is Ghost of Tsushima. It presents a gorgeous open world inspired by the Mongolian invasion era of Japan. However, it strikes me more as a PS4 game rather than a PS5-specific entry for this list. It has received a remaster with additional content set on Iki Island. Additionally, there's Returnal. It's gained a large fanbase since its release, but can arguably be considered a co-op game, following one of its post-game updates.

Good Boy

A dazzling Japanese "3D" billboard for Square Enix hit Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade has been declared the winner of a contest held by the Tokyo Outdoor Advertising Association (TOAA).

The Final Fantasy VII 3D billboard, which could be seen in Tokyo back in the winter of 2021, stars beloved party member RED XIII, who is chased down by a Shinra helicopter high up over the rooftops of Midgar. Fortunately, it all ends happily, as our boy falls into a toy warehouse, for some goofy fake moustache chicanery. It's a genuinely fascinating and gorgeous piece of animation, and one can only imagine how much joy it brought to onlookers during ??the holiday period.

The Tokyo Outdoor Advertising Contest, which is held every two years, recognizes advertising that it believes not only displa??ys creativity and amazing visual design, but that also suitably fits in with the environment, offering a form of "art and spectacle" over the general crassness and tackiness of most advertising. Also brought into consideration are the advert's impact on the surrounding area, and whether or not it disrupts the aesthetic of the local area.

While 3D billboards are nothing new, they are still incredibly sparse in their use in mainstream society, generally located to major metropolis' such as Tokyo, New York, and countries such as China and South Korea. They u?se depth perception and optical illusion to m??ake characters appear to be leaping out from the buildings themselves and, when partenered with imaginative brands and beautiful animation, make for visually stunning talking points for passerbys.

Here's what PlayStation Plus' higher tiers get this month

We're just about halfway through July, and Sony is locking in the Premium and Extra catalog for this month's PlayStation Plus offerings. Futuristic cat-platformer Stray and Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade headline a pret?ty solid month for the upper tiers.

In case you missed it, PlayStation Plus stratified out into three different tiers last month. While the Essential tier retains access to the same Plus users have had for a while, Extra and Premium get some?? extra goodies; namely, some PS4 and PS5 games for Extra, and a retro catalog for Premium members.

Stray was already confirmed for the PlayStation Plus Extra tier during the June State of Play. So good news: if you have?? the Extra tier, those feline escapades will be ready for you day-one.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is the second headliner. This is the PlayStation 5 version of the Remake, with added content, improved visuals, and DualSense controller integrations. But most importantly, Fort Condor. So much Fort Condor. PlayStation 4 owners will get Final Fantasy VII Remake available as part of this month's Game Catalog.

Marvel's Avengers also joins the lineup, as it just recently got Jane Foster and will also, apparently, be looking to add She-Hulk at some point. Plus, there's a bevy of Assassin's Creed games coming to the service, as Ubisoft says it plans to keep on expanding the Ubisoft category on PlayStation Plus.?? Our favorite remake is headed to Steam

Final Fantasy VII is considered one of the best games of all time, and as we celebrate its 25th anniversary, this game is the gift that keeps on giving. An enhanced and expanded version of the remake, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, is already available on the PS5 and the Epic Games Store. We learned today during the Final Fantasy VII 25th Anniversary Celebration stream that the Intergrade version is also going to be on Steam as of June 17, and the game will be playable on the Steam De?ck as well.

Intergrade comes bundled with INTERmission, which is new story?? content for the game featuring Yuffie as the main character. There are other new gameplay an??d content features, including Fort Condor, as part of the game as well.

Similar to the PC launch of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on the Epic Games Store, the Steam version costs $69.99 �b??ut there's a discount knocking it down to $49.69 until July 7.

Cloud and gang arrive on the Epic Games Store

If you've been holding out for Final Fantasy VII Remake to leave the PlayStation family, next week's your shot. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will come to PC via the Epic Games Store next week on Dec.?? 16.

Announced during The Game Awards 2021, it looks like the Remake is only coming to Epic on PC for now. The Intergrade version of Final Fantasy VII Remake includes both the first part of the story and Yuffie's extra content, alongside some graphical improvements. That means you'll be able to get fully caught up with the current progress of the Final Fantasy VII Remake, all in one package. Check out the trailer below:

It'll be interesting to see comparisons between the PlayStation version and what some high-end PCs can pump out of an already gorgeous video game. And Final Fantasy VII Remake is one heck of a video game, so it's good that PC players will finally get the chance t?o check it out. P?lus mods! Someone will probably turn Sephiroth into Thomas the Tank Engine or something, it'll be great.

We're still waiting on news for when Part II may surface, but until then, we'll at least have a new platform to play the ??adventure on. And it's not that far off, either. Looks like we'll be able to ring?? in the holidays with another venture through Midgar.

Country roads....take me home

So Square Enix decided to unload a ton of new info for Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade (the DLC/PS5 upgrade thing for Remake), and there's a lot to unpack. Let's start with the charac??ters.

Nero has been revealed, serving as a "member of an elite unit in Deepground known as the Tsviets." Scarlet is also going to get down to business in the DLC utilizing the Crimson Mare mech, and Ramuh will be usable as a summon. ?As you can tell, from an antagonist standpoint the DLC is going to di??verge quite a bit.

But the real meat of this recent update is easily the Fort Condor minigame, which will be making a return in Intergrade, albeit in a slightly different fashion.

Two sides duke it out in this "strategy" minigame, where you try and conquer a base while deploying units against the other side. ATB, materia, and unit selection will play a role in the strategic elements of the mode, with vanguard, ranged, or defensive roles. You essentially spend ATB to bring out units in a rock paper scissors counter fashion. On paper, it sounds a lot like Swords & Soldiers and other similar titles.

A??long with confirmation that Yuffie and Sonon wil?l be sporting limit breaks, and Sonon is an NPC "guest" character that adapts to your battle choices: this DLC is sounding more enticing by the day. There's some stuff to criticize here with how this is all being rolled out, but the actual content looks refreshingly fun: and will hopefully help tide us over until this story is continued, whenever that might be.

The end is the beginning is the end

We're just over a month away from the next release in what could prove to be Square Enix's magnum opus, Final Fantasy VII Remake. The publisher has released a "final" trailer for the incoming Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, which launches on PS5 June 10.

It should be immediately noted that the trailer opens with ending spoilers for Final Fantasy VII Remake, as well as featuring plenty of footage — of both characters and events — taken from the all-new Episode INTERmission side-chapter. So consider yourselves wa??rned, friends.

Episode INTERmission will see the return of fan favorite FFVII character Yuffie Kisaragi, as the young kunoichi bravely battles against the forces of the Shinra corporation, including the head of its weapons division, Scarlet. Ms. Kisaragi will also lock horns with the mysterious Nero, an elite member of the Deepground clan known as the Tsviets. This latter antagonist previously appeared in the 2006 PS2 release Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade launches on PS5 June 10. While Intergrade's technical enhancements will be offered as a free upgrade to players who own Final Fantasy VII Remake on PS4, the INTERmission chapte??r will need to be purchased separately. It has been announced that Intergrade will see a PS5 exclusivity period of at least six months before it appears on any other platform.

Adventure fans looking forward to expansive next-gen release Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will want to p??eruse this new vi??deo from Square Enix - an extended edition of the debut trailer showcased during February's State of Play live stream.

Featured alongside the exciting footage of returning superhero Yuffie Kisaragi is a closer focus on the two spec modes that will be available to FFVII Intergrade players. "Graphics Mode" will place the emphasis firmly on the flash, prioritizing 4K visuals to keep Midgar and its occupant?s looking their very best, while "Performance Mode" will ke??ep the framerate running at a steady 60 FPS. I personally am finding this whole "dual mode" meta in next-gen gaming a bit of a disappointment. But, for now, it is what it is.

Also showcased in the extended trailer is a run of features that see Intergrade take advantage of PlayStation 5's specific technology, including the implementation of both Adaptive Triggers and Haptic Feedback. Piquing my interest, however, is the photo mode. Given FFVII Remake's gorgeous vistas, locales, and characters, I can't wait to unleash my shutterbug and fire ??off some amazing portraits of Aerith, Cloud, Yuffie, and co. set against some dramatic backdrops and ??dynamic lighting effects. You probably couldn't ask for a better studio, to be honest.

'The original intent was to create a PS5 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake and not to produce downloadable content'

It's still hard to believe that Final Fantasy VII Remake has an upgrade...DLC...thing.

It's...kind of weird to me! To see a modern re-release of an old Final Fantasy game get a story extension, but the series is known for DLC now; that's just the way it is. Well, thanks to a new Famitsu interview, we've learned that it wasn't necessarily the inten?t for this to happen, and it may not happen again for the foreseeable future.

Speaking to the outlet, Tetsuya Nomura, who is one of several directors for the Intergrade project (but not for Part 2), notes that "Due to the nature of the upgrade system, it resulted in us having to label the new Yuffie sections as ‘downloadable content.’ However, the original intent was to create a PS5 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake and not to produce d?ownloadable content. Accordingly, we do not have ?any plans for downloadable content at this time."

Nomura says they are "prioritizing the roadmap for comple??ting the next game," and to never say never, and that although DLC isn't planned, it could come after the second part is finished. As for more details on Yuffie's story, there are several control modes (you can have Sonon, your companion, "act independently," or one where he mimics your commands). You can also "press L2 to switch between combo modes."

?Oh, and Yuffie will have "new materia and summons." ??Remember, we also already know that it's two chapters. It sounds like a fully fledged adventure!

Play! Play! Play!

PlayStation Japan has announced a special live stre?am discussion to showcase some of the most exciting titles headed to PlayStation in 2021. "Play! Play! Play!", as well as sounding vaguely threatening, is described as "a talk show that makes you want to play" and will be broadcast March 21 at 20:00 JST and will run for around an hour.

Scheduled to make an appearance on the stream are Capcom's sepia-tinged horror Resident Evil Village as well as Square Enix's upcoming PS5 release Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade. A selection of hosts will be on hand to discuss their respective titles, including Capcom director Morimasa Sato, and Square Enix pro?ducer Yoshinori Kitase. It is unclear whether the presentation will include English subtitles, but hopefully there'll be lots of juicy new video for our eyeballs.

The mystery is coming together

So Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade instantly shot up on my 2021 radar.

Yeah, some parts of it are a bummer, like the PS5-specific requirement. And not everyone has one of those! Seeing as they're basically unicorn pieces of hardware. But for those that do, we have more Final Fantasy VII Remake to enjoy sooner than later (whenever Part 2 decides to actually come out).

To that end, folks are champing at the bit for more Yuffie DLC info, and we got it. As spotted on Game Watch (via Nibel), the Yuffice DLC bit will take place across two chapters. Yuffie will ??also be able to use "ninja-like" abilities outside of combat, and she will be accompanied by her companion, Sonon; who is a "warrior who studied under Yuffie's father Go??do."

Both of the latter factoids were intimated in the trailer, but it's nice to see it spelled out. The chapter part is especially useful, so we have our expectations in check when this ac?tually launches later this year. For reference, the base game was roughly 18 chapters, though the length of those varied some.

Nomura is busy

A lot of blood, sweat, and tears went into making Final Fantasy VII Remake from the ground up.

A full team had t???o basically reimagine this classic JRPG without screwing things up, and that included new sound effects, visuals, music, designs, mechanics: you name it. So it makes perfect sense that it took a team of three directors and countless others to make that happen. That directorial trio involved Testuya Nomura, Noaki Hamaguchi, and Motomu Toriyama. At least for the first part.

Speaking to Famitsu, Nomura confirmed that Part 2 will only have one director: Naoki Hamaguchi. Part of the reason is that Nomura will be busy, working on "more projects now than ever before" (okay, I want to know more about that). Since a lot of the groundwork is already done, Nomura feels comfortable that this one can be helmed by one person. However, Nomura is still involved as the "creative director on all things Final Fantasy VII," which specifically includes the remake and the mobile games. He says that it is "not a significant change."

Slowly but surely the Part 2 pieces of the puzzle are coming together. We know that it should feature the open world at some point, and that Square Enix is working on it in earnest remotely.

Oh, and there's a PS5 version coming soon with a Yuffie DLC storyline to tide us over.

Living in a Materia world

It appears that the cat has been let out of the bag regarding March's PlayStation Plus offerings, thanks to a premature leak on the PlayStation Netherlands Facebook. As spotted by Nibellion, next month will allegedly see PS Plus subscribers bag Sony's Farpoint VR,  Annapurna's Maquette, Gunfire Games' Remnant: From the Ashes, and, as previously rumored, Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII Remake.

In a notable disclaimer, however, it appears that players bagging the PS Plus version of FFVII Remake will not receive the free upgrade to Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, as premiered during last night's State of Play presentation. The upgrade will only be for players who purchased a full retail or digital copy of the award-winning adventure.

Regardless, it's still a very hefty premier release for PS Plus subscribers, and will give many people yet to revisit the world of Midgar in all of its revisioned splendor the perfect opportunity to get reacquainted with one of the finest adventures in video game history.

Sony ended its State of Play presentation with a bang, giving Final Fantasy fans a new look at Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade for PS5, with an additional new episode teased for the award-winning revisit to Square Enix's classic PlayStation adventure. The PS5 edition will launch June 10, available in standard format for $69.99 or a Digital Deluxe edition for $89.99, with a free upgrade path.

An action-packed trailer spotlit the return of feisty ninja Yuffie Kisaragi, who will re-join the action following the dramatic and calamitous ending of Final Fantasy VII Remake.

First appearing in an amusing Moogle disguise, Yuffie soon reveals her true identity, before letting rip on the forces of Shinra Inc., armed with her ninja prow??ess, her giant shuriken, and her big o?l' socks. This special episode sees Yuffie take the lead as a loud-mouthed protagonist.

Sony took the opportunity to show off footage of Final Fantasy VI Remake Intergrade running on PlayStation 5 h??ardware. The PS5 edition of the epic RPG will naturally feature optimized lighting, improved?? textures, and reduced load times. An obligatory Graphics Optimization Mode will also be implemented in-game. A new Photo Mode will allow players to capture their party in all its finery.

Best of all, PS4 players who already own Final Fantasy VII Remake will be able to upgrade to the PS5 edi??tion free of charge – though you will have to purcha??se the new Yuffie episode separately.
