Mobility plays an enormous role in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, especially with the new Omni-movement feature added with its release. Thus,? having the right movement settings toggled can make all the difference in out?playing your opponents.

Best Settings for Smooth Movement in Black Ops 6

There are a slew of settings to play around with in the Movement menu within Black Ops 6, and many of them are going to be up to your preference whether or not you decide to use them. However, the o??nes I'm about to recommend make for smooth, precise gameplay, letting you focus much more on the shooting and less on the technicals of mobility.

For your clarity, I'll walk through each of the important settings ??and offer you my recommendation.

Intelligent Movement

This section deals with the automation? of simplistic movements such as Sprinting and Mantling.

Sprint Assist

This setting lets you control how you want to initiate a Sprint. I recommend turning this setting Off since Sprinting can be initiated manually with its dedicated control scheme, which gives you more agency on when and where it is activated. This is valuable as you do not want to always be Sprinting at full speed in volatile situations where you need to have your gun up and ready. You don't need to? deal with any of its sub-settings when the core one is set to off.

If you're playing with a keyboard and mouse, then there is a use case where you can set this setting to Tactical Sprint Assist to perform the new omnidirectional Dive behavior much more easily. This will make it so that when initial movement in any direction, you will automatically go into a Tactical Sprint without further input. Thanks to this, simply pressing Dive will Dive you in the direction you wish without having to have to press the Sprint button. The trade-off here is that you will have less general access to Hipfiring, which can be a determinant.

Mantle Assist

Mantle Assist lets you automate the ability to climb over low obstructions. Definitely leave this setting off, as with it toggled on, you will climb over obstacles anytime you touch one tha??t is climbable. This can easily disrupt your flow of combat, especially in the midst of a shootout near stairs or similar locations.

Crouch Assist

Crouch Assist, when toggled on, will automatically crouch you when you get close to high obstructions with space below. You absolutely want to have this off, as, like with the above-mentioned settings, you don't want to have this sort of movement automated due to agency. There are times when you don't want to crouch but are near places where crouching will let you tr?ansverse.

Corner Slice

Corner Slice is a new mechanic introduced with Black Ops 6 that will automatically 'lean' your character around corners when you're ADS (Aiming Down Sights). This option is entirely your preference as, despite its appearance from your perspective, it has no noticeable effect on gameplay. Thanks to testing, it is arguably cosmetic in nature, as players looking toward you while you perform a Corner Slice will not see the lean effect occur.

Movement Behaviors

These settings determine how you manually activate all of the possible mobility maneuvers available to you in Black Ops 6.

Crouch Behavior

Agency is the most important aspect when it comes to movement, and that remains the case for Crouching as well. I highly recommend you set this setting to Toggle, as it means you have less to press for ??the same results. Toggle is ideal because you need to be able to smooth initial Sliding, which is done when Crouch is either held down or Toggle by a key press w??hile Sprinting. It is extremely cumbersome to Slide when you're forced to hold down the Crouch key.

Prone Behavior

Like Crouching, you want to be able to simply press the 'Prone' button and remain as such without needing to hold down additional keys. Diving, a new mechanic introduced in Black Ops 6, requires the Prone maneuver to be initiated while Sprinting. Once more, you don't want to hold down several keys to initiate what should just be a simple movement. Set this to Toggle if it isn't already.

Sprint/Tactical Sprint Behavior

With the Sprint button, you can set it to either Toggle or Hold. Set this setting to Toggle, because using Hold will r??equire you to hold an additional key input to activate Tactical Sprint. This will make you slower to react to the actions of other players. Toggle Sprint can be canceled at any tim?e with a simple ADS input.

Sprint Restore

Keep this setting set to On, as it allows you to keep sprinting after performing any other mobility action. Turning this off will slow you down as you'd need to initial a Sprint every time you perform a movement behavior (Dive, S??lide, etc...).

Slide/Dive Activation

Slides and Dives inherently use different inputs to perform during a Sprint, but this setting allows you to tie both together, separating the actions by how you input them (Hold vs Tap). Set this setting to Independent so that you?? don't accidentally perform the wrong mobility behavior when it counts.

Combat Behaviors

These settings ?influence how you utilize combat-related mechanics and mobility.

Aim Down Sight Behavior

This setting adjusts how you want to enter ADS mode, with both a Toggle and Hold option available to you. I highly recommend you set this to Hold because entering ADS and exiting is something you want to be able to do with a single press. If you set Toggle on this setting, you will require two inputs to accomplish the same effect, effectively slowing you down. Not good?? if you're trying to be competitive.

Dedicated Melee Weapon Activation

Unique to Black Ops 6, you will always have a melee weapon that can be equipped. This weapon can, by default, be accessed by holding down the melee button. However, this is incredibly slow and not viable if you intend to make use of your melee weapon unless you change this setting to Dedicated Keybind. This ?allows you to set a specific key for swapping to melee, which happens instantaneously when you press it.

Weapon Mount Activation

Despite popular belief, Weapon Mounting is an incredibly strong mechanic that is not often used by the player base in Black Ops 6 or Call of Duty in general. Whether you decide to take advantage of it is your preference, but if you do, make sure this setting is set to Toggle so you don't need to hold the key down once you've found a location to set up shop. There is also some viability in setting this to Hold instead if you intend to make use of Weapon Mounting in short ?bursts, as you are technically faster if you do.

The grime from Joel's POV

It may have been a huge, bug-ridden let-down when The Last of Us Part 1 released on PC, but a series of patches is aiming to fix the biggest problems. And it's not just Naughty Dog that's tinkering with the remake, either. One modder has been looking to implement a first-person mode for the game, and a recent video shows off this work-in-progres??s.

Visual artist and YouTuber Bryan Ortiz (aka Voyagers Revenge) has uploaded some footage from their first-person modification of The Last of Us Part I on PC. Specifically, the video shows the "brutal combat and new aggressive gameplay." Over the course of nearly nine minutes, you'll get to see the crumbled world of Part I from the perspective of Joel, ??as he fights off both the infected and atta??????????????????????????cking gangs.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFhTdX-3Hvc

When will we get to play it?

??Unfortunately, this mod is not currently available, and is still being worked on by Ortiz. In response to a comment t?hat asked whether this first-person mode will become available, Voyagers Revenge says it's currently unstable. It's also been built for an early version of the game, and is "crashing the game multiple times." However, they did say they'll "pull some strings soon," so it's possible they may look to releasing the mod at some point.

When it came out earlier this year, the PC version of the Last of Us remake was panned due to a laundry list of technical issues. It was a shame, really, as for many PC users, it was the first time they'd had a chance to check out Naughty Dog's critically acclaimed game. However, the updates must be doing the trick, as recent scores on Steam show that Part I is now ??sitting at "Very Positive," though still "Mixed" overall.

Hell on Earth. Moreso.

Fledgling German studio Hekate has released new gameplay footage of its grotesque psychological horror Ad Infinitum, which remains in development for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X. Hekate believes that the creepy-looking release will be ready for launch in September of? this year.

As we have previously reported, Ad Infinitum is the story of a lone German soldier, lost in the miserable trenches of World War One. Told from a first-person perspective, players will explore a clash of realities, as the true horrors of "The Great War" merge with frightening monstrosities and fantasies that have seemingly become a part of No Man's Land. Ad Infinitum will combine stealth, exploration, and puzzle elements as the protagonist picks their way thro??ugh a living nightmare.

//www.yo?utube.com/watch?v=_uEcgVDH7X?4&ab_channel=NaconNorthAmerica

A??s the first release from Hekate, the studio wishes to make a major impression with its debut. As such, the release date has been pushed back from the second quarter of 2023 to September, which will afford the development team more time to further polish the release ahead of its launch. The team originally conceived the idea over a de?cade ago, and have worked on it painstakingly for the last three years. As such, it behooves them to make sure that this long-time-coming passion project is the very best that they can make it come launch day.

Ad Infinitum is scheduled to launch in September 2023 on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X.

Does he have an anti-nausea superpower too?

In theory, getting a first-person view as Spider-Man swinging around New York sounds like the coolest thing ever, because who doesn't want to be Spidey? In practice, though, it's a bit of a nightmare I can't even look at the screen for more than a few seconds without being overcome with nausea. But if you can stomach the herky-jerky camera, and if you're just dying to play Spider-Man in first-person, this new mod has you covered.

Spider-Man's release for PC means that modding the game just got a whole lot easier, hence why the aptly named "Spider-Man PC First Person Mod Web Swinging" mod by well-known GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 modder Jedijosh920 has gained some attention online. They also ??released a slightly less stomach-churning video where the camera stays fixed in place as Spidey spins and flips around, so that's at least a little bit better.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=mylHkF4ExBE

Mind you, I used to be a roller coaster junkie, but unfortunately as I've gotten older, my motion sickness has only gotten worse and worse. When I came across the video showcasing the mod on Twitter, I had to scroll away pretty fast at risk of ending up like Liza Minnelli in Arrested Development.

Even so, I have to admit that this is something I'd like to experience, motion sickness permitting although it's pretty sad to be hit in the face with the real??ity that I wouldn't be able to handle life as a web-slinging sup??erhero simply because I get sick by moving around too much. Oh well, I was never made for the crime-fighting life anyway.

Either way, ?it's always fun to see modders put a new spin on some of our favorite games, and to the brave souls out there who are somehow playing this in VR, I com??mend you. Your stomach is much stronger than mine.

PC will get it in November, while Xbox owners will wait a while longer

Co-op first-person horde game Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is taking a little extr??a time for development. Developer Fatshark announced today that the PC version has been pushed to November 30, while Xbox Series X|S will arrive later.

Previously set to arrive in September, the multiplayer PvE game is now splitting out its console and PC launches. In a statement, Fatshark says the Xbox version will arrive "shortly after" PC,? with a specific date to be announced.

Fatshark also says that delaying a game is a difficult decision. But it's also one the team hopes shows its commitment to making Darktide come together.

"While we have been humbled by the great feedback on the game so far, we also need more time to improve stability, performance, and to mature key systems," the studio says. "Each is critica?l to making sure we have the best possible experience for you, the players."

Squad-based test fire

If you're still eager to get in, there will be a chance before November 30. The team will be hosting a series of technical tests ahead of launch, in order to kick the tires on Warhammer 40K: Darktide.

The playtest sign-up page is live on Fatshark's site here, and appears to have sign-ups open for both Xbox and PC. Seems like a decent way to get in early if you can't wait to figh?t the Chaos horde.

Fatshark has built a pretty solid reputation with its work on the Vermintide series, creating some stellar co-op PvE games over the years. Safe to say, Darktide has some lofty heights to reach. So a little extra time for the studio to buckle down and work on fine-tuning things to be just right sounds good for the whole squ??ad.

Warhammer 40K: Darktide hits PC on Novembe??r 30, with Xbox ?Series X|S arriving sometime later.

Axe you nicely

If there's one thing that the PC Gaming Show nailed this year, it was remembering not to forget to show New Blood's Gothic first-person adventure Gloomwood, which previously had the misfortune of being left off of the show by accident, and uploaded to social media once the stream had finished. Oo??ps?.

Anyway, those who have been waiting to dive into its gory gaslit world will be pleased to hear that Gloomwood finally has an Early Access date, and will be opening its creaky wooden doors on Steam come August 16. Gloomwood's stealth 'n' slash action will come as snug entertainment to those who enjoyed that '90s Thief titles, which clearly presented a form of inspiration to the New Blood devs??.

In between all the creeping and cranium-axing, players can also indulge in a spot of suitcase arranging, ala Resident Evil 4, which as fans know is almost a compelling game in and of itself. If this is your first time hearing about Gloomwood, then be sure to check out the trailer below to get yourself up to speed on New Blood's latest old-school-cool release. Che??ck out the trailer below, which features several titles from the New Blood catalog along with some e-e-edgy comedy.

After a few hours with Dying Light 2, we've seen some new heights, but still have a few questions.

The world of Dying Light 2 Stay Human isn't quite the usual zombie post-apocalypse. Most zombie worlds involve survivors moving from place to place, holing up in whatever building might provide a moment's refuge from roaming zombie hordes. But in a hands-on with Dying Light 2, we got to see the Ci?ty for all it entails: a struggle not just for survival, but also to decide who gets to ?build over the rubble.

In the world of Dying Light 2, the infection has been around for a while. It's not that zombies aren't a threat; it's just that they're an understood danger ??factored into daily life. And in the City, there's still plenty of real estate to expand to and even inhabit, especially if ??you stop looking out and start looking up.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=imsueKX0Vlk

We got to go hands-on with Dying Light 2 Stay Human for a few hours, playing two sections of the game over a cloud connection. My gameplay section started in Old Villedor, as protagonist Aiden was searching for a way deeper into the city, negotiating with the Peacekeepers (or 'PKs') ??and local survivors, many?? of whom gathered in a community dubbed the Bazaar.

Being dropped directly into the story, it was a little hard to track what the broader narrative beats of Dying Light 2 are. Aiden is clearly on the hunt for something, and whatever it is involves his sister in some way. Depending on certain? dialogue choices, I was able to subtly coax some details out. But the real draw for me was in the side stories and individual characters.

The Bazaar's plot follows Sophie and Barney, a pair of siblings who struggle to lead, both against the Peacekeepers' domineering command of the region and working in the shadow of their mother. Their personal beats end up driving the main stor??y in Old Villedor, and they work very well.

Hostages in Dying Light 2

Even further off the path are side quests, found both during the ??day and at night. While the sun was out, one of the first characters I ran into while playing was a singer with not so much talent. She was trying to croon from the rooftops, but had stopped performing in the bazaar after ??losing her mink-fur stole to the wind. So, I volunteered to recover it.

The ensuing chase led me further and further up a massive building, until I was literally perched atop an antenna. I had the stole, and I got a pretty ??????????????????????????good look around the area while I was there. It was massive. And it was vertical, in ways I?'d soon become quite familiar with.

One of the coolest things about Dying Light 2 to me so far is the actual world itself. The survivors living in the city have built up, constructing rooftop settlements and resources. As I ran along the roofline, I'd breeze by a garden, supply cache, or sever??al survivors talking around a fire. This isn't to say the streets are barren; the Bazaar itself is walled off on the ground, but even internally, it turns all the empty vertical space into room for more rafters and lofts.

And once you leave those walls, you're on streets dominated by the infected. It can, at times, feel like a game of "the floor is lava," as it usually benefits Aiden to stay off the roads. Bu??t it also makes the moments you dip down to ground level feel really tense, heightened even further if it's because you've missed a jump from one platform to another.

Ziplining from building to building

The first-person parkour-platforming works, for the most part. Due to the cloud-based nature of my play session, there were a few times I definitely chalked up to latency. In other instances, I did still feel a bit frustrated with trying to get Aiden to do what I wanted him to do. As parkour abilities stack up, I'd sometimes run into situations where I was wall-running when I just wanted to jump, or other stutters. When the traversal flows well though, it really does click like it did in the first Dying Light.

Windmills offer some of the best moments for this parkour action, as they each pro??????????????????????????vide small vertical challenges to overcome. The reward for solving the moving platforms and tricky jumps is a new settlement, established under the newly re-established windmill. These havens end up providing a nice respite from the undead, and a way to turn the clock from day to night or vice versa.

When the sun sets, the undead become much more than mere obstacles. They'll start to inhabit more areas, chase you farther, and can even initiate dangerous attacks from heightened, more powerful undead. Combat is important here, as it is everywhere else. Dying Light 2 focuses a lot on melee combat, with?? a wealth of close-range weapons to choose from with improvised attachments. There are still a few ranged options, like the stealthy bow and javelins, but I spent most of my time in frantic melee combat, parrying and dodging, using my parkour skill to occasionally grab the upper-hand when I'm outnumbered. Or, at night, simply fle??eing out and away from the scene when things got too hot.

The benefit to heading out at night is, as always, more rewards. Nighttime brings the infected out of their own safe spots inside, which opens them up for looting if you're stealthy and fast. Some side quests also appear at night. One I played involved searching for a woman's lost lover, who she feared was in danger from her overbearing brother. The resolution of that side plot was surprising, and one of the highlights of my time in Dying Light 2.

Dying Light 2's Lawan as portrayed by Rosario Dawson

There were still some hitches, however, that pulled the experience down a bit. Some voice lines just didn't play out, leaving some awkward moments of standing there waiting for the next line. Undead and inanimate objects would sometimes clip into the environment, in ways that aren't too uncommon for open-world games. It's nothing major though, and certainly points I'd hope Techland hits with the extra time they've allotted themselves.

Most of the Old Villedor section felt like a continuation of Dying Light 1. I spent most of my time doing lots of parkour action, searching for supplies, and managing the local politics as Aiden tried to play both sides for his own advantage. It was all very solid and fun, but Central Loop—the second section of my Dying Light 2 preview—felt like a slice of what Dying Light 2 is doing differently this time around.

First off, it strongly features Lawan, portrayed by Rosario Dawson. Yes, it's a celebrity in a video game, but she didn't seem overly utilized and fit naturally into the story beat. As we ventured around bringing power back to this section of the city, using cables to solve some neat puzzles, she gave Ai??den a personal glider. And let me tell you, gliding is a blast.

Aiden gliding above buildings in Dying Light 2

The Central Loop area is even more vertical by nature, as it takes place in the skyscraper section of the city. Here, massive buildings with glass window??s tower up overhead. Navigating this area was less about building-to-building par?kour, and more about using the glider to navigate large swathes of land, using wind gusts and careful handling to not plummet into the ground below.

It felt incredibly rewarding, and melds in with the parkour very well. It wasn't long until I was leaping from one skyscraper, comfortably navigating treacherous winds to touch down in another. Once inside, I'd have to wall-run and leap my way around a horde of infected who were now acutely aware of my presence, ??and then leap out the other side to continue on my way.

This section culminates in a really fun rooftop defense segment?, where you're leaping from building to building in order to take out cannons that are firing on a local settlement. And again, what surprised me?? is how natural it felt. It didn't feel like I'd ditched free-running for the glider, but like my world had expanded a bit more to accommodate new movement into the mix.

I'm still curious to see how the whole package of Dying Light 2 actually comes together. The pre-demo blast of story that got us up to speed for our slice of the game raised a lot of questions. And I'm really curious about how all these areas will be linking together, and what the long-term ramifications of choices wi??ll be. Some I made were small, like who gets to control a power substation. Others seemed much larger, with broader implicat?ions.

My main takeaway is that Dying Light 2 Stay Human certainly doesn't feel like a retread. Old Villedor gave me a big slice of an improved blueprint, and Central Loop let me peer a bit into the new future. There's some tuning to be done, but the world of Dying Light 2 definitely has my attention.
