Since it launched in 2022, Gran Turismo 7 has consisten??tly received new content to keep racers coming back to burn rubber. Today, a new update arrives, and i?t brings something for everyone.

The update will be available from 11:0??0 PM PST, and Polyphony is touting ?it as the biggest since the launch of the game. Although both PS4 and PS5 players will get the update, some features will only arrive for the current-gen console. There is a trailer for you to watch as you wait for the patch to download.

Everything included in the Gran Turismo SPEC II update (patch 1.40)

With the Gran Turismo 7 update,? you'll get the SPEC II opening movie. You'll also get 7 new cars. They are:??

• Dodge Charger SRT Demon â€?8
• Lexus LFA â€?0
• Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II â€?1

The update also comes with a new circuit - Lake Louise - and it comes with 3 layouts, namely the Lake Louise Long Track, Lake Louise Short Track, and the Lake Louise Tri-Oval. You can also expect ??3 new Extra menus, a new Event Directory button, and the inclusion of Gran Turismo Sophy 2.0 the AI assistant on PS5.

There have been ?50 new challenges added to the licenses, and a paddock area in multiplayer where you can connect with other players. The update also brings changes to the World Circuits. This comes in the ??form of 5 new regular events:

August is going to be a good month for Gran Turismo fans. The Gran Turismo movie hits theaters on August 25, and you can enjoy some new content in Gran Turismo 7 to celebrate the movie's launch. Update 1.36 goes live on August 7 at 12 AM PDT, and it adds a new livery that’ll allow you to recreate the Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 �8 seen in the Gran Turismo movie.

Polyphony Digital is also running a gift campaign. From August 7 until September 28, you’ll be able to claim the Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 �8 showcased in the upc?oming movie.

The Gran Turismo movie, directed by Neill Blomkamp, has been touted as a true story based on the life of Jann Mardenborough and his unusual rise in motorsport. Gran Turismo is one of many PlayStation franchises receiving film adaptations, including Ghost of Tsushima and possibly Days Gone.

Here's everything arriving at, or soon after, the PS VR 2 launch

Sony's next virtual reality headset is on the horizon, and today the company is locking in what will be playable around its launch. In today's PlayStation blog, Sony highlights the full launch lineup for the PlayStat?ion VR 2 headset, including a f?ew games newly confirmed for the hardware.

The launch lineup, as Sony lays it out, includes a bevy of titles arriving either on February 22 or within a month after launch. Sony's tracking more than 30 games to arrive through March, with familiar names like Horizon, Resident Evil, and Gran Turismo on track. Others, like Tetris Effect, were already VR standards, and will need an additional purchase to upgrade to its PS VR 2 version. Others will have free upgrade options, or like Gran Turismo 7, be included with the PS5 version of the game.

Among today's newly announced titles for PS VR 2 are some neat surprises, too. 2021's hidden gem Before Your Eyes will be making its way to Sony's VR platform, and is 100% worth your time. There's also The Last Clockwinder, an automation game t??hat uses recording of your own actions to create assembly lines. It seems pretty neat!

Tack on some first-party experiences and, of course, an extremely tall Lady Dimitrescu, and Sony's launch lineup seems alright. Virtual reality is in a strange place at the moment, with many PC headsets moving towards more premium (and pricier)?? hardware. Maybe PS VR 2 can split the difference, especially for those who alre??ady have a PlayStation 5 in their home.

Much-loved rhythm action game headed to PS5

As part of its 2023 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) offerings, Sony has announced that rhythm action title Beat Saber and stylish, road-rippin' racer Gran Turismo 7 are both headed to the PSVR2 platform.

Speaking in the publisher's press conference, PlayStation president Jim Ryan singled out the titles as two of "over 30 games" that are currently in development for the PS5's virtual reality hardware, which is currently set to launch in February of this year. Little more was offered in the way of information, though Gran Turismo 7 owners will be?? able to upgrade to the PSVR2 edition of the title?? for free.

No release date was offered for the PSVR2 port of Beat Games' Beat Saber, which stands proud today as one of the most loved and recognized rhythm action titles for the modern gaming era. The colorf?ul and exciting game is currently available on PS4 (via PSVR) and PC via HTC Vive, Oculus Quest, and Valve Index.

Gran Turismo 7 servers are back online, after an extended maintenance period kept it offline for over 24 hours. Developer Polyphony Digital an??nounced it has issued Update 1.08, after discovering a rare issue before the release of 1.07.

Yesterday, Polyphony Digital announced it was extending server maintenance, with no completion time set. "Due to an issue found with Update 1.07, we are extending the current server maintenance period," the update reads. "We will confirm the comp??letion time as soon as p?ossible. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and ask for your patience while we work to resolve the issue."

Polyphony CEO Kazunori Yamauchi addressed the maintenance in an update on the Gran Turismo 7 site.

"Immediately before the release of the 1.07 update, we discovered an issue where the game would not start properly in some cases on product versions for the PS4 and PS5," writes Yamauchi. "This was a rare issue that was not seen during tests on the development hardware or the QA sessions prior to the release, but in order to prioritize t??he safety of the save data of the users, we decided to interrupt the release of the 1.07 ?update, and to make a 1.08 correctional update."

Several facets of Gran Turismo 7, including single-players modes like the campaign, require a connection to GT7's servers. Players were posting about the outages, as well as concerns about the in-game economy, on forums like the Gran Turismo subreddit. And folks like Digital Foundry's John Linneman have noted how this illustrates the issue with required server connectivity for games. User reviews have also been dropping on Metacritic.

Yamauchi says the event rewards for Gran Turismo 7 were adjusted in the update as well. Describing the team's plans going forward, he says he would like users to enjoy ma?ny cars and races "even without microtransactions."

He also says it's import??ant?? for car prices to be linked with real-world price tags, to convey value and rarity.

"We will in time let you know the update plans for additional content, additional race events and additional features that will constructively resolve this," Yamauchi says. "It pains me that I can’t explain the details regarding this at this moment, but we plan on continuing to revise GT7 so that as many players as possible can enjoy the game. We would really appreciate it if everyone could watch over the growth of Gran Turismo 7 from a somewhat longer term point of view."

Last night saw Sony hold a brand new State of Play presentation, entirely focused on Polyphony Digital's upcoming racing simulator, Gran Turismo 7. In a "deep dive" video breakdown, fans were rushed with a 30-minute breakdown of the new sequel's mechanics, features, and modes, accompanied by some very po??lished-looking visuals, as is to be expected from the typically classy drivi?ng franchise.

Eschewing the more open approach of Gran Turismo Sport, Polyphony Digital is aiming to take the Gran Turismo series back to its roots, offering players a career-style journey that will see them behind the wheel of several modest starter cars, eventually working their way up through eye-watering high??-performance vehicles and stunning concept models. In all, some 400 cars are expected to be available at launch, with a buy-and-sell scheme that hopes to reflect each model's real-world value.

Gran Turismo 7? will feature what looks to be the deepest customization mode in series history, with players able to tinker with their vehicle with razor finesse. While the exterior of the vehicle? can be decorated in all manner of colors, and emblazoned with liveries, sponsor ads, decals, under the hood fanatics can tweak various components within the vehicle's engine �fine-tuning speed, acceleration, balance, exhaust output, braking, and Dominic Toretto-pleasing superchargers.

Utilizing the power of new hardware PlayStation 5, fans can expect the famously classy visuals of the GT series to dazzle like ne??ver before. Dynamic weather conditions will add to the overall immersion, while the Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Trigger mechanics of the Dual Sense controller will provide authentic levels of control of your chosen mean machine. The first PlayStation State of Play for 2022 arrives this week, and it's all about Gran Turismo 7.  A new look at the upcoming racing sim arrives this Wednesday, to show what's to come for aut?o-aficionados in March.

This week's PlayStation State of Play will air on Wednesday, Feb. 2 at 5 p.m. ET / 2 p.m. PT. The event will air on the PlayStation Twitch and YouTube channels.

If you're going in expecting some big first-party news or surprise reveals, it might be wise to temper expectations. In today's PlayStation Blog announcement, Sony confirms that it's a Gran Turismo 7 show. Sony will air just over 30 minutes of gameplay details and PlayStation 5 footage of Gran Turismo 7.

So don't expect any big updates on other major PlayStation games, like God of War: Ragnarok or the soon-to-launch Horizon Forbidden West. This showcase is going to be? for the car fiends out there who have been patiently waiting for the next iteration of So?ny's racing series.

And to be fair, it has been a while. The last numbered entry in the Gran Turismo series came out on the PlayStation 3. And while PlayStation 4 owners got their own entry in Gran Turismo Sport, it sounds like it wasn't everything fans might have wanted.

With the racing competition heating up over the years, there are some more eyes on Sony to see if Gran Turismo will come screaming out of the gate with a strong entry. It still feels like the current console generation still hasn't fully shifted over into the new hardware, but if anything could be a showcase for what a new console can do, it's a racing sim. 420 cars, 90 tracks

Gran Turismo 7 has been in the works for a long time, and just like the prior entries, it'll reflect that with its content. Thanks to a Japanese flier for the game that's advertising its impending M??arch 2022 launch, we have more of an idea of what to expect. Allegedly, it'll contain roughly 420 cars with 90 tracks.

The flier comes via Twitter user bookkyamp, who located it at a Japanese Yodobashi Camera that was sitting out. Not only does the flier tease "special events" like "race to the music," but it also seemingly confirms that the game will feature the above Gran Turismo 7 track and car count. Note that Gran Turismo 6 contained about 1197 cars, and 41 tracks (with u?p to 86 via variants). That variant count will likely come into play for the upcoming edition.

So much greenery

With Forza Horizon 5 absolutely sucking up all the attention from racing game fans as of late, it's easy to forget we're just a couple of months away from the release of the latest entry in Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo franchise. GT 7 is the first numbered entry in the series since 2013, and following the less-than-stellar reception of Gran Turismo Sport, I think a lot is riding on this game knocking all of our socks off and showcasing the power of the PlayStation 5. We've seen some trailers already for the racer, but this weekend PlayStation dropped a new look at the game with a lap around the Gran Turismo 7 Deep Forest Raceway.

Yeah, I can't wait to see that on my big screen in 4K. I remember driving the Deep Forest Raceway quite often back in college in Gran Turismo 4. It taught me everything I needed to know a??bout cornering. If you're familiar with the track, you should have been able to see some of the changes in the trailer that have been made to the track's layout, including more barriers and a hairpin turn in the last half of the track. If my experience with hairpin turns in other racing games is any indication, I'm going to be slamming into other cars a lot in that spot.

Gran Turismo 7 will release on March 4, 2022, for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. As a reminder, if you purchase the PS4 version and wish to upgrade to the PS5 edition, there will be a $10 digital upgrade charge.

Barring any more delays (and here I am bracing for accusations of totally jinxing it), Gran Turismo 7 will be out on March 4, 2022. It's arguably too early to start thinking about pre-orders, but for those of you who are open to that possibility, or just love GT enough to be into a collector's edition, here's the latest. As announced on the PlayStation Blog, Gran Turismo 7 will have a 25th Anniv??ersary Edition with a r??ather sleek SteelBook case.

Aside from the cover art (and the included in-game cars, like the Castrol TOM'S Supra), the most interesting thing about the 25th Anniversary Edition is that it comes with two versions of Gran Turismo 7: a physical PS?5 disc, and a ?digital PS4 voucher code.

That might seem like a no-brainer, but it's a semi-surprising sight in the realm of cross-generation PlayStation releases. It's been a messy situation all around.

March 4 release date confirmed for PS4 and PS5

Gran Turismo 7 was quickly confirmed for PlayStation 5, but we're still waiting, and waiting. It's the natural order o?f things. During this afternoon's PlayStation Showcase 2021, Polyph?ony Digital brought fresh gameplay and a new release date: March 4, 2022.

We already knew 2022 was on the cards for GT7 �a Sony rep cited "Covid-related production challenges" back in February �so really, March isn?'t too bad at all.

"We're aware that long-time fans of the Gran Turismo series strongly desired the return of the GT Campaign mode, and now, having seen the trailer, hopefully everyone will be able to get a feel for the atmosphere of the newly designed Campaign mode," Polyphony Digital president Kazunori Yamauchi said on the PlayStation Blog. There's a world map!

Gran Turismo 7 is even more of a "car collecting game," acco??rding to Yamauchi. "Players will progress and complete missions in the GT Café by acquiring prize cars from various races within the world, as well as from the Brand Central and the Used Car Dealership."

A few other notes from the big boss:

• The Livery Editor is said to have better utility and accessibility with a new UI.
• You can take photos of your cars in 2,500+ locations spread across 43 countries, including HDR support, using Scapes.
• The High-Speed Ring and Trial Mountain circuits are returning, as is GT Auto.

And a weirdly wordy statem?ent about the weather and time-of-day simulation:

"Referencing a massive amount of meteorological observation data, we have recreated spatial / time of day conditions for particle size distribution and concentration distribution of aerosol particles in the atmosphere on a global environmental scale, in a procedure that is unique to the Gran Turismo series."

If you've tuned out the Gran Turismo news cycle, you might've missed that GT7 is coming to not just PS5, where it's hoping to be a showpiece, but also PS4. That's still the case. The March 4 release date goes for both versions, and there will be a $10 digital upgrade.

Beloved racing series to return in 2022

Gran Turismo has always been a franchise at the forefront of gaming technology. Sony's classy 'n' flashy racing simulator is known for its efforts to push PlayStation hardware to its limits. So it's only natural that the next entry, Gran Turismo 7, would be developed for Sony's new hardware, PlayStatio?n 5.

But it seems that eighth generation fans needn't worry about missing out either. According to an interview with PlayStation Studios head, Herman Hulst, the next entry is this popular franchise is also in development for the humble PS4. Hulst noted the PS4 port in a statement referencing the cross-port potential of many major upcoming releases, including God of War: Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West, two titles that are also expected to truly showcase the power of Sony's new hardware.

When it finally hits the grid, Gran Turismo 7 will be the first mainline entry to span two platforms simultaneously. In a franchise that is so utterly devoted to state-of-the-ar??t visuals, it will be very interesting to see quite how developer Polyphony Digital squeezes the PS5 edition with all its pomp and ?circumstance into the PS4's humble hardware. We'll see how the tech plays out once the green flag drops in 2022.

Gran Turismo games arrive precisely when they mean to.

As a fan of the series since the? start, they're not on what I'd call a regular s??chedule, especially after the third game. What was once a two-ish year cadence became three, then six, then back to three, then four, then....five, as of today.

Yes, the seventh iteration, which was due in 2021, is now delayed into 2022. The news came this morning straight from Sony by way of a GQ interview, which shed some light on multiple new Sony announcements like a new PSVR device for PS5 and "a slate" of PC ports for PlayStation titles. The confirmation actually didn't come from Jim Ryan directly, who was the focus of the interview, but a Sony rep, who jumped in to field the response of when Gran Turismo 7 would arrive.

Here's the full statement: "GT7 has been impacted by Covid-related production challenges and therefore will shift from 2021 to 2022. With the ongoing pandemic, it’s a dynamic and changing situation and some critical aspects of game production have been slowed over the past several months. We’ll share more specifics on GT7’s release date when available."

I'm not surprised. Gran Turismo games are generally meticulously crafted, and with less design-inten??sive games getting delays, this one is par for the course.
