Grand Theft Auto is hijacking a new service: Netflix Games. Announced today, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy -The Definitive Edition is ??making its way onto the Netflix app in December.

According to the Netflix website, players will get to experience the definitive editions of Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, and San Andreas all from their phones. Players can pre-register for each title before they launch on December 14. The news comes weeks after games like Hades and Braid were announced to arrive on the service next year.

For some, these games are staples of the video game world, as they redefined the series to what it is today. GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas came out in 2001, 2002, and 2004, respectively. Each of them launched on the PlayStation 2 and became the highest-selling games on the system. That's saying something given the console's immense success. Rockstar Games raked in the money, and the controversies, and became legends in the industry.

Grand Theft Auto III follows down-on-his-luck Claude as he enters the crime-filled world of Liberty City on a quest for revenge. Vice City, on the other hand, tackles its version of Las Vegas with Tommy Vercetti's rise back into the mafia scene after being released from prison. Finally, San Andreas showcases a more? realistic world as we see CJ Johnson's relu?ctant return to gang warfare.

For many people, the thought of accessing any GTA from your phone is amazing, even more so from Netflix. You'll get that fantasy, though there is one problem: it's Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy. Yes, the one that came out last year to abysmal fanfare. Its horrendous launch and low quality made even die-hard fans wince. Fortunat?ely, it seems like changes were made, as the collection? is set to be 'updated' for mobile devices.

Still, this is a huge hit for Netflix Games, as their platform hasn't been as out-there with their games as other services have. Their section of games includes titles like Immortality and Oxenfree, among others. As mentioned before, th?e acquisition comes ?after announcing a few 2024 additions during Netflix Geeked Week.

December is shaping up to be big for Grand Theft Auto fans, as it was revealed last month that a Grand Theft Auto VI is on the way. Grand Theft Auto V has been the face of the series for 10 years and sold millions of copies over its lifetime. Now, finally seeing the next generation of open-world crime simulator??s will be?? nothing short of exciting.

Netflix subscribers can access their game catalog from the app. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy is available for pre-register now and launches on December 1??4.

Rockstar relists their classic trilogy

GTA fans have had something of a rough go of it the past few years, what with the continued radio silence about GTA 6's development since the announcement that it was happening in the first place, and the disappointing launch of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy �T??he Definit??ive Edition back in 2021. Here's hoping that today's news is still something of a respite, despite the Definitive Edition's rough start.

Either way, the trilogy is now available to purchase on Steam, and is also playable on the Steam Deck, which should be exciting to hear for at least some of the GTA diehards out there. Rockstar also stated that they'll be making the game available on the Epic Games Store later this month, so Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy �The Definitive Edition?? will be even more accessible to PC players soon enough.

This is the first time GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas will be available on Steam after they were delisted with the release of the Definitive Edition a few years ago -- players previously had to access them through Rockstar's own store if they wanted to play them on the PC at all over the past few years. The trilogy is still available to play on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, but here's hoping the Steam Deck capability will make it up to any players who have dealt with any Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy �The Definitive Edition-caused headaches over the past few years.

Rockstar Games has announced a release date for the Nintendo Switch physical edition of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy �The Definitive Edition. Originall??y delayed from December due to the games' poor release state, t?he cart-based edition of the classic crime sims will now arrive on February 11.

As a quick refresher, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy �The Definitive Edition contains remastered versions of three of the most legendary open-world games of all time: Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Initially launched on PC and consoles in November 2021, players were left stunned by the compilation's shoddy performance, with texture issues, game-breaking weather effects, and myriad visual glitches and background typo?s.

The Nintendo Switch edition was something else, however, and was render??ed borderline un??playable.

Rockstar Games has since released numerous patches for GTA Trilogy's various releases, but the general consensus among the community was that the ball was dropped on this release, with some players noting that unofficial fan-made remasters were ironically higher in quality than the official release. It can be assumed that this physical edition will be patched on installation, but that still might not be enough to provide a solid enough experience for GTA loyalists.

PlayStation and Xbox bumped to mid-December, while the Switch physical edition falls to 2022

The physical release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy �The Definitive Edition won't be happening in early December as expected, which, given the sloppy state of the game, is probably for the best. As it now stands, Rockstar has decided to push back the game's physical release to December 17 on PS4 and Xbox One / Xbox Series X, while the Nintendo Switch version has fallen back even further �it's now?? slated for "early 2022."

Rockstar's tweet about the delay didn't cite any specific reasoning, but there's plenty to speculate about, and the publisher did suggest to "check your local ??retailer for availabi??lity."

With updates coming in as recently as this morning to target issues with eye-melting rain effects, wonky signs,?? and general stability, it's clear that there's so much more work to be done to deliver a reasonable modern version of these games, much less a "definitive" one.

That said, I have to wonder if the physical edition delay for GTA Trilogy is less about last-minute improvements and much more to do with stripping out some not-exactly-hidden files �including music �that really shouldn't have been l??eft in there in the first place.

As fans were quick to spot on the Nintendo Switch box (as seen here on Amazon), Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy �The Definitive Edition has a "download required" disclaimer, so it's already an uphill battle even without getting i??nto the b?ugs and other missteps.

Much like the already available digital versions, the physical copies on PS4 and Xbox One / Xbox Series X will cost $59.99. With many more updates, and a tumble into the bargain bin, it might become palatable. I feel for anyone who was really hoping to get back into GTA III, Vice City, or San Andreas, as this should've been a great compilation. Instead, it was a momentous launch for all the wrong reasons. The 1.03 title update adds a cinematic camera option too

Rockstar Games and developer Grove Street Games have released a new title update for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition, addressing some common complaints about the collection. Among the targete?d fixes are the rain, the fog, the stability, and one pesky set of donut and nut.

The detailed patch notes went live today too, and they're pretty extensive. The top-billed updates across the Grand Theft Auto trilogy are general stability improvements and fixes to a number of misspellings on art and signage. Rain shouldn?'t appear indoors during some cutscenes any more, either.

Also? part of the update is a new cinematic camera opti??on. You can cycle through it while flicking through camera modes in-game. The Donut and Nut props at the Tuff Nuts shop have been touched up too!

But mostly, it's a lot of rain. As pointed out on social media, rain?? pops up fairly often, both as part of the cutscene fix and in general fixes. ("Fixed an issue where the rain ?appears under water when falling," for example.)

The Grand Theft Auto trilogy collection launched earlier this month and had a pretty lukewarm reception. The definitive versions still had their fun, but were also weighed down by a lot of technical issues and shortcomings. Eventually Rockstar published an apology for the state? of the versions, and promised the classic PC versions would return to the Rockstar Store as well.

With all the technical analysis detailing and breaking down the state o?f thi?s trilogy collection, it's been shown there's a lot to tackle. Players will likely comb over all the details and see what's better now and what still needs more. Meanwhile, it seems like the modding community is already?? bringing their?? efforts to bear on the collection. Time will ?tell how it pans out.

The classic PC versions will also go back on sale on the Rockstar Store

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition launched last week, and has not had a grand reception. Following a poor response to the collection's technical state and issues with its availability, Rockstar has issued an apology and update for the "unexpected technical issues" in the Grand Theft Auto trilogy.

In a Rockstar Games blog post, the company says it wants to "sincerely apologize to everyone who has encountered issues playing these games." Rockstar acknowledges that the updated versions of Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, and San Andreas did not meet its standards of qu?ality that fans expect from Rockstar.

The publisher says a new Title Update will arrive in the coming days for all versions of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy that will address "a number of issues,"? and they will update everyone as soon as it's live. Rockstar also says more planned updates will b?e on the way, with each one improving the games and reaching the level of quality they "deserve to be."

Additionally, Rockstar addressed the fact that it had taken down the "classic" versions of these games ahead of the trilogy's launch. The PC classic versions of Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, and San Andreas will be put back on the Rockstar Store as a bundle "shortly." Everyone who purchased the PC version of the Grand Theft Auto trilogy from the Rockstar Store, from now through June 30, 2022 will also receive ??these classic versions for free.

As detailed in our review of the trilogy, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is presently a pretty lackluster version of these classic games. We'll see whether further updates can rectify these issues. But at least the classic versions are going back up, albeit on the Rockstar Store, and in the wake of many mods going down.
