There's something sha??meful I must admit about myself: I'm a native?? of Miami, Florida. It's where I spent the first 18 years of my life growing up, and even after leaving, I look back on my time a lot.

South Florida was my home, and feeling its vibe is rare unless I visit family. That is, until I saw the long-anticipated trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI. I've watched it more than a few times now, ?and my only thought is, "Yeah, that's Florida."

Does it capture absolutely everything I associate with the state? No, but fo??r a trailer that's only 90 seconds long, it gets so much right. It also makes me feel represented in a way I don't think any other game has made me feel before.

Recalling my time as a Florida gal

Before I go into what Grand Theft Auto VI gets right about Florida, I want to say something about the state and I say this with love: It's kinda trashy. This isn't to say that everyday life in Florida is just like the real-life stories used as inspiration in the trailer. People are wild everywhere, and it's rare for alligators to end up in your pool. Florida Man is only a thing because the state has incredibly strong public record laws.

When I say Florida, including Miami, is trashy, it is because I mean it literally. One shot in the trailer showcases what I assume is GTA VI's South Beach equivalent feels like a complete fabrication, and only because there isn't trash everywhere. People are gross ??and, especially on a populated beach, will leave their trash behind.

This applies to the water, because the clearest thing I remember about Florida beaches is t?he rancid smell coming from them. It was bad enough that I thought I hated the way seawater smelled. The truth was that pollution from varying sources makes the water smell terrible and gives it a murky brown color.

Besides?? that one little gripe I have? Everything else is on point, even with ho?w the fictional state of Leonida is shown outside Vice City.

Although I left before I was old enough to appreciate Miami's nightlife, the trailer represents its excess amazingly. Miami is a bright city at all hours, a?nd while the plethora of luxury sports cars is noticeable during the day, they glow at night. Even the glimpse of a strip cl??ub resembles a very Miami version of excess. It's incredibly flashy in a way that can take attention away from how other parts of Flordia are.

Beyond Miami's glitz, Florida resembles the southern US while remaining unique, and I love how GTA VI's trailer shows this. My favorite part of the whole thing is a shot of an airboat riding through swampland. It's something that took me back to when my family and I took airboat tours through the Everglades.

While something I never cared for, it was wild seeing mudding represented in GTA. The activity constitutes driving trucks through mud in the messiest way possible, and is something a part of my family enjoys doing. It's on a far smaller scale th?an showcased in the trailer, but the shot stirred some memories in me.

Seeing that helped solidify that I was watching a parody of my home sta?te, and Rockstar hardly needs to exaggerate it. Even with that, it's an?other decision Rockstar made that makes me feel seen in a game.

Ay dios mío, a game represents me!

I'm not much of a Grand Theft Auto fan, but I'm likely buying GTA VI because of Lucia. While Latino leads like Spider-Man's Miles Morales and Just Cause's Rico Rodriguez exist, they are rare.

This goes doubly so for Latina leads. Outside Far Cry 6's D?ani, I can't think of any, and even t?hen Dani's gender is player-chosen.

Otherwise, if Latinas are represented as playable characters, they are always part of an ensemble, like Overwatch's Sombra or Valorant's Reyna. As Americanized as I am, it's a littl?e isolating knowing how underrepresented we are.

Although anyone who followed Grand Theft Auto VI leaks knows Lucia is one of the playable leads, seeing her front and center in the trailer makes her role as a protagonist feel so much more real to me. While the man she's traveling with is probably the other protagonist, the focus on Lucia gives the impress??ion?? she's the game's real star, and I adore that.

It's cathartic while also sobering, since it reminded me of how little Latina representation there is in gaming. Another point in her favor is that she represents those who lives in Miami. The city is full of Latine people, with many coming from the Caribbean and South America. I myself am Cuban, and I'd bet the s??ame for Lucia, given Miami's high Cuban pop?ulation. Her specific ethnicity doesn't matter, however, because I'm just ecstatic she exists and isn't a caricature of a Latina.

While I likely anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI's trailer as much as many others, the feelings it stirred surprised me. It made me nostalgic for a place I have cultural and political qualms with. It also made me feel more represented in a game than I th??ink I ever felt.

All Rockstar needs to do now to win me over is add trash to the beaches and have a scene dedicated to how delicious Cuban food is. Only then will Vic?e City really be home.

Two days in and the GTA 6 trailer is nearly at 120 million views on YouTube. It's become one of the most-watched video game trailers in history, but it's not just benefitti??ng Rockstar. ??It's also seeing a revival of a music legend.

According to data sent to the BBC by Spotify, the recent GTA 6 reveal has seen interest in the late rock mus??ician Tom Petty ?soar, thanks to his song "Love Is A Long Road" being featured in the teaser. Streams for the track �first released in 1989 �have increased by 36,979%.

Yes, I had to do a double take as well, because that's a comma, not a period. Nearly a 37,000% uptick in one song's popularity is insane, but given the hype around the upcoming Grand Theft Auto entry, it's perhaps not too surprising.

Rock never dies

After ten years of waiting, Rockstar finally gave us a taste of things to come in GTA 6. Sad??ly, we still have a bit longer to wait until it releases, as it's only due to come out in 2025. We don't even have an exact date. All we know? is it'll be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. No word on when PC will get it, though.

With Tom Petty's song being given a new lease on life, it calls into question what other tracks will be in the game itself. As a series, Grand Theft Auto is known for? its so??undtrack, featuring a slew of classics from many artists and bands.

On a personal note: it absolutely blew my mind when I first heard Slayer's "Raining Blood" on Vice City's V-Rock station. Ah, good times.

With thousands already waiting for the trailer to drop, the GTA 6 teaser has been one of the most anticipated promos of this year, maybe of this whole generation. While it ??was unveiled a little earlier than planned, this has only made it possible for even more people to watch it many, many times.

At the time of writing, over 70 million people have seen the GTA 6 trailer over on YouTube. By comparison, "Baby Shark" has amassed around 13 billion views at the time of this writing, so GTA still has some way to go, but we're only on day one so far. Oh, also, the Grand Theft Auto 5 trailer has been viewed 98 million times, so it sou??nds like the new one could easily surpass it.

This number of people watching the trailer is going up at a pretty alarming rate, which is not entirely unsurprising. By now, many of you will have seen it, so you'll have your own thoughts on the upcoming new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series.

Sadly, we don't have a release date. All we know is that it's coming in 2025.? That still feels like a long way off, especially for a game that people have been waiting about a decade f??or.

Also, no PC release confirmed yet

Parent company Take-Two Interactive also confirmed that GTA 6 will be coming to PS5 and Xbox Series. Nothing's been said about a PC version. If we're going off what happened with Grand Theft Auto 5, PC players might n??ot get it for another year or so after the console release.

The teaser itself wasn't actually supposed to release when it did. Due to leaks on social media, Rockstar decided to show the trailer early.

GTA 6 has already been the subject o??f hacks and leaks, ??so the fact that someone was able to get the trailer up before the official release time is not that surprising. Still, it doesn't seem to have harmed the Rockstar YouTube figures much. It could very well go down as the most watched video game trailer in history.

With thousands standing by waiting for it to release tomorrow, something happened and the Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer just released. The 90-second-long features what looks to be mostly cutscenes, showing off a handful of locales including a massive city, a beach, and a bayou while playing Tom Petty's Love is a Long Road. The trailer ends with the GTA6 logo and coming 2025. Unfortunately, it appears as though the 2025 release date is ??only for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no mention of a PC release.

Even though the trailer was scheduled to release tomorrow, the trailer leaked which prompted Rockstar Games to go ahead and officially releas?e the trailer early. I'm sure the leak wasn't i??deal, but Rockstar was pretty quick to flip the trai??ler live after the leak popped up.

Return to Vice City

It's been long rumored that the highly anticipated sixth entry in the Grand Theft Auto series would bring a return to Vice City, and that looks to be the case. The trailer's title card features the classic Vice City pink and orange washed-out colors. Also, about halfway through the trailer, we see a Vice sign in the style of the Hollywood sign, which almost certainly confirm?s it.

Even though the video featured mostly cutscenes, it's safe to say this is exactly what everyone was hoping for: more Grand Theft Auto.

Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released in 2025.

The response to the Trilogy sidelined some projects

It looks like Rockstar may be laying off the remasters for a bit. A new report says remasters of both Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto IV were in consid??eration, but now Rockstar is shelving the project?s.

Word first broke from Rockstar leaker Tez, who claimed a reliable source said these remasters were "on the table a few years ago," but Rockstar has chosen not t?o proceed with the projects in mind.

Today, Kotaku followed up w??ith a report, saying they could confirm that Tez's tweet is accurate to what they've been told.

The decision seems to be indicative of the poor response Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition received. Response at launch indicates it was a technical mess, with patches rolling out soon after to try and tune the project. Rockstar publicly apologized for the state of the Trilogy.

As both Tez and Kotaku indicate, it looks like the remaster trilogy put some ideas on hold. According to Kotaku's sources, Rockstar is hoping people will forget about the remaster as it focuses its attention on Grand Theft Auto VI.

Kotaku does say that while the plan is to get the next GTA out the door, the future is open. Their sources say a possible Red Dead Redemption or GTA IV remaster aren't "out of scope" and could happen after VI ships.

Taking some time

The possibility of a Red Dead Redemption remaster in particular is tantalizing. It's also been rumored for a while now. A report from Kotaku last year revealing the Trilogy remaster also indicated RDR would be due up, if the re-releases did well.

It now looks like those plans will have to wait until after Grand Theft Auto VI is out, though.
