It's time to flip some faces and figure out the murderer, as Clue, Guess Who, and Connect Four are all heading to Fortnite in the coming months. Clue is the first Hasbro game to launch in Fortnite, and Guess Who comes to the battle royale title la?ter ?in October.

A refresh of the games

Launching today, Murder Mystery: Clue has players in round-based gameplay and a countdown timer. Everyone has different roles, such as the Killer, Detective, and Guest, and each one has a different win condition. The developer Look North World says, "This new take on Clue offers a highly?? replayable exper??ience, blending nostalgia with engaging gameplay that resonates with today’s players" in the press release.

Guess Who comes to Fortnite later this month, while we'll have to wait until December for Connect Four. This move is to help pivot Hasbro's classic games to?? a modern audience. Apparently, they will be "off?ering a fresh twist that reimagines these classic board games."

"We are ex??cited to work with Hasbro, a brand that understands the power of user-generated content as a unique opportunity to connect with passionate gamers,?" said Look North World Founder and CEO Alex Seropian.

Seropian helped create Bungie, the studio that developed the legendary Halo and Destiny series. Now, Look North World is creating content for Fortnite and premium mods for ARK: Survival Ascended.

Hasbro claimed in 2023 that Clue is the second-most popular board game in the world. It has sold over 150 million copies in its lifetime. It also has a new live-action film on the way by director James Bobin and? 20th Century Studios. The game itself has been around for over 70 years and was created by Ant??hony Pratt during World War 2.

Undaunted North Africa pits the LRDG (the ?precursors to the SAS) against the North African Italian forces. Across numerous scenarios, both sides will battle it out to achieve their own objectives to win. As the game progresses, you'll be deck building on the fly as you reinforce your very limited supply of soldiers. Who you will bring into the battle and who you'll leave out will dictate your strategy on the field. So choose carefully.

A head-to-head tense action game where every soldier counts, Undaunted North Africa will have you caring for your soldiers whilst also sending th??em i??nto impossible positions for victory.

Hive

When you think of "fun things to do with someone you like," anything involving bugs isn't one of the first options that comes to mind unless you're both into entomology. That might change after you've played a game of Hive.

Hive is a tile-based strategy game that puts both players in command of a colony of insects, with the end goal for both players being to capture the other players' "Queen Bee." War of the Ring is as asymmetrical a game as you can get. Both sides have dramatically different rules. It's like explaining two different games. One player will take charge o??f the forces of evil, and will be slowly pushing against the bastions and forces of good whilst on an underlying mission to corrupt the Ringbearers. The other player will be trying to take down the fortresses of evil whils??t trying desperately to deliver the ring to Mount Doom.

This game is strategy to the ultimate max. Due to the vast differences in both sides, you'll be having to account for different rules and processes when trying to anticipate and counter your opponent to achieve one of your two victory conditions. War of the Ring is a treat for those who enjoy drawn-out and comp?licate?d strategy games.

Splendor Duel

If you're looking for a competitive engine-building game, then Splendor Duel may be the game you need. Although Splendor is a fantastic two-player game in its own right, this version of the game is more streamlined and fitting for a tw?o-player head-to-head.

With three ways to win, your every move in Splendor Duel will work toward your set completion or engine of the game, which will serve to gain you discounts and an easier late-game as you develop it. With wonderfully tactile chips and cards, it's a pleasure to play with, let alone being a pleasure to play.

Blitzkrieg!

World War Two in 20 minutes is what Blitzkrieg! promises, and that's exactly what you get. I've yet to find someone who doesn't enjoy Blitzkrieg!, espe?cially when it's so easy to tech and easy to play. Yet the st??rategic challenges it presents are not to be underestimated.

In Blitzkrieg!, both the Axis and Allied powers are vying control over the globe. The player mat consists of five theatres of war spanning the world, and you'll be stationing your units into the different battl??es to fight for domination. Different tiles will provide?? powerful bonuses should you strike, however, making you choose to push back your enemy or claim a boon with every single placement.

For a quick yet tight and dramatic game that can be played over and over again, look no further than Blitzkrieg!

Summoner Wars

Look, once in a while, all you can do is look at someone and invoke Bugs Bunny's age-old adage, "Of course, you realize this means war." There are a lot of war games out there that allow you to live the thrill of combat without the accompanying destruction, but few are as built for one-on-one warfare as Summoner Wars.

Summoner Wars takes all the fun of deck-building fantasy combat games like Magic: the Gathering and disti??lls it into a digestible, easy-to-pick-up exp?erience that will delight those who might be scared to dive into the genuine sport. There’s even an online edition for those who find themselves drawn to the world of Itharia.

If you're a?fter something more fantastical yet non-stop action, the Summoner Wars should be your next pick.

Memoir '44

I don't subscribe to the notion that "old is gold," but Memoir '44 has stood the test of time for a reason. You and one other will be playing across?? a set of scenarios that simulate different real-life battles across the year of 1944 during World War 2.

Interestingly, the map of Memoir '44 is split into three co??ntrol zones, and you're always at the mercy of whatever your cards allow you to do in specific zones. This allows for an ever changing game where sometimes certain zones will be writhe with action as others get neglected. The cruel whim of the dice will also provide the most enjoyable angst I think I've ever felt.

Pushing forth with your infantry, armor, and sometimes artillery units, you'll each be vying for your own objectives in a tight bid to win in Memoir '44. This game also comes with numerous expansions, so collectionists eat your he?arts out.

7 Wonders Duel

7 Wonders Duel provides a thought-provoking game that will have both players slowly buil??ding civilizations bit by bit. The winner is the one who makes the greatest civilization, however, there are two other victory conditions ??present to force players into constant tug of wars.

You will pass three ages in 7 Wonders Duel, where the two of you will be pining over the same finite set of resources, represented through cards. The wonders and buildings you wish ??to construct rely on these resources, so every turn your opponent performs makes you die a little inside.

Whether you win through scientific advancements, military power, building all seven wonders, or simply by being the most accomplished civilization, you'll have a stressful yet grand time picking apart 7 Wonders Duel.

Castles of Burgundy

Castles of Burgundy may not be strictly a two player game, but it is still a great pick for two players. A decently complex yet greatly satisfying game, Castles of Burgundy will see you both racing to get as many points as possible ??by building up your castle in 25 tur??ns.

Interestingly, the core mechanic that dictates what you can and can't do in Castles of Burgundy are dic??e, but not in the way you may expect. The face of each die corresponds to different actions and placements that you can make that turn, meaning you'll have to adapt you??r strategy every round depending on your dice rolls.

This makes the abundance of actions you can take more manageable by limiting you??, but that itself is a curse that you'll grapple with every turn. Workers can be used to modify these dice rolls and silver can be used for extra actions, so you'll need to manage your resources wisely to out-play your opponent.

Quacks of Quedlinburg

Quacks of Quedlinburg presents a unique challenge that may not be exclusively for two players, yet delivers a fantastic game all the same. B?oth player?s are medieval chemists that are in a bid to brew the best potion day after day, but the art of knowing what's enough will be what saves you from a alchemical accident.

Players will be blindly rummaging through their bags to try and pull out the right ingredients for their potion - something dangerously addictive. With the funds they also secure through potion-making, players will go sho??pping to input the desired ingredients into their bag. Something that's not guaranteed to come up when you need it the most.

Quacks of Quedlinburg is a charming yet hilarious game of chemical concoctions whe?re you're constantly gambling with every ingredient you re??ach for.

Digitial Eclipse unveiled the next game in the Hasbro Retro Arcade as Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind and it looks like a ton of fun. Coming in late 2024, Rita's Rewind is an all-new adventure with an original Power Rangers?? storyline that mixes franchis?e lore with retro gameplay.

In Rita's Rewind, players face off against a robotic reincarnation of the Power Rangers' long time nemesis. Robo-Rita conjures a portal to send herself back in time to stop the Power Rangers by forming an alliance with her younger self. Together, Robo-Rita and Rita R?epulsa will rewind, rewrite, and remix the past in attempt to stop the Power Rangers once and for all.

It looks like classic arcadey Power Rangers beat-em-up and I'm all for it.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind is coming to PlayStation 4, PlaySt??ation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam in Late 2024.

Hasbro, the parent company that owns the Dungeons & Dragons license, has raked in $90 million in royalty fees since the release of Baldur's Gate 3, according to a Bloomberg report. The 2023 Game of the Year for many outlets has been a massive success with a 96% review rating from over 500,000 Steam gamers.

"Baldur’s Gate 3, last year’s most critically acclaimed video game, has brought in about $90 million since its August release for parent company Hasbro Inc. through a licensing deal," wrote Bloomberg's Cecilia D'Anastasio.

Despite the $90 million in revenue, Hasbro has laid off many of its staff. It cut 1,000 of its full-time staff in January after taking away 900 jobs over the past few months. CBC News reports 29% of Hasbro's workforce has been let go. This came af?ter a reportedly weak holiday season.

Despite that horrible news, the universally beloved game was given Game of the Year from The Game Awards over steep competition like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Marvel's Spider-Man 2, among others. It also just won the coveted prize from the DICE Awards.

Despite the game's 1.0 release back in August, developer Larian Studios is still updating Baldur's Gate 3 six months later. In today's sixth pa??tch, unique kisses have been added to the game for each roma?ncable character.

"All characters now have unique kisses that reflect their personality, with an emphasis on the plural," said Larian Studios in an update blog on Steam. "These kisses are randomised and vary from the incredibly romantic to�uh, a little more intense." Additionally, new idle animations have been added in the camp to "help your campsite feel more alive." Other gameplay modifications? have been added.

Speaking with the publication Transformer World, a Hasbro representative has revealed that Activision Blizzard currently doesn’t know the whereabouts of the source code for the various Transformers games that they were in charge of publishing.

It’s happened to the best of us. I’m not sure of the whereabouts of some of my dog’s puppy pictures, and I have a suspicion they were on a thumb drive that I formatted. However, while Zero is a good boy who deserves his life to be chronicled in as much detail as possible, I am not a multi-billion dollar corporation, and he is not a media production that cost millions of dollars and hours of human labor to produce. If I was and he was, I probably would have been a little more fastidiou??s when it came to storing that data.

The representative explained, “Sadly, apparently Activision’s not sure what hard drives they’re on in their building. When a company eats a company that eats a company things get lost, and that’s very frustrating. Hope is that now that the deal is moving forward with Microsoft and Xbox that they’ll go through all of the archives and every hard drive to find it all, because it’s an easy Game Pass add. We want those games back up for people to have a chance to play.�/p>

Note that the representative didn’t say that the games were destroyed or irretrievable, simply that they were supposedly misplaced. The games include Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark, and Transformers Devastation. The last of those titles came out in 2015.

Robot irretrievable

Okay, so mistakes happen. However, I worked in I.T. for 9 years, and my inner technician is screaming about how a proper backup architecture could have averted this. I’m not any sort of Transformers fan and have never had any interest in these games. It just baffles me that a corporation with the size and influence of Activision Blizzard could drop valuable data between the couch cushions. It’s li??ke when the government sends mail to an address you haven’t lived at for multiple tax and voting s??easons.

Iâ€??™m just saying someone has a responsibility and that someone dropped the bal?l.

At the very least this reveals that Hasbro is interested in a re-release of the Activision published titles. Hopefully, someone will find the hard drives stuffed in with the rest of the sensitive data stored temporarily beside the toilet. I kind of find it funny that the representative is hoping that the Microsoft deal will go through with faith that they’ll do a better job of housekeeping. I mean, at the very least, Microsoft has backup ser??vers.

The Fast-Dealing Property-Destroying Game

Honkai: Star Rail is an absolute behemoth of a free-to-play game right now, surpassing 20 million downloads in a single day. I’ve been trying to put some time into it since it launched, but I don't think I've even reached the titular Star Rail yet as another mobile game has hogged all of my attention over the past week or so. Monopoly Go! is a new, free-to-play competitive board game from Hasbro and Scopely, the latter of which is best known for its work on The Walking Dead: Road to Survival and Star Trek Fleet Command.

Monopoly Go! is a casual take on the classic board where you roll two die to move your piece around the iconic board, collecting cash or paying taxes along the way. Everything you know from Monopoly is here, but the rules have changed enough that Monopoly Go! is an even more ruthless version of th?e property-buying game.

That’s saying something because Monopoly has always been a take-no-prisoners experience. Anyone who had the misfortune of landing on a hotel-adorned Park Avenue space owned by your older brother can attest to just how mean-spirited this game can be. That is by design and why we mostly stuck to playing Sorry! when I was a kid. In Monopoly Go!, your goal isn’t just to collect money from your friends and strangers. You’ll still do that because what is Monopoly if you’re not learning to hate landlords? But you’re also actively trying ??to destroy their properties while robbing them blind.

When you boot up the app, it’ll encourage you to sign up your friends as all F2P games are wont to do these days. Friends and strangers alike will pop up on your board in various s?paces. If you manage to land your piece on one of those spaces, they'll pay you rent. The goal of the game is to earn enough money to complete landmarks across various maps (such as a torii on the To??kyo map). Build all five landmarks and max out their upgrades, and you’ll move to the next map. It’s simple enough, but you can really throw a wrench into your friends' plans by landing on a railroad space.

Railroads in Monopoly Go! will activate one of two activities: Shut Down or Bank Heist. If you get Shut Down, you’ll get a chance to partially demolish a l?andmark one of your acquaintances has built. They can block it, but only a certain number of times. Landing on a Bank Heist will open up a match-3 mini-game that’ll let you rob your friends and family of all their money if you’re lucky. Sadly, for the people who’ve decided to add me as a friend in their game, I’ve been ver?y lucky in that regard over the past week.

Going bankrupt carries no real penalty as it’s impo?ssible for you to go into debt, but it can provide a major setback for your progress, such as when I managed to steal a??bout $17,000,000 from another player during a Mega Heist. That player has since given up on the game, as have quite a few of the people who were in my circle for the first five days or so.

Unfortunately, it seems that I will be joining them soon enough. There are several deal-break?ers here that will have me deleting the app, probably by the time this article goes live. It’s really aggressive with its in-game ads, I have the absolute worst luck of landing on the Go to Jail space, and it’s the type of free-to-play game where it’s almost necessary to keep opening up the app in case there is a 30-minute limited time event ??that could give you a massive advantage. I’m keen on the F2P market, but not so much when a game keeps my notifications ringing throughout the day.

If I were in the market for a new mobile F2P game to kick around for the next few weeks, Monopoly Go! wouldn't be a bad choice as it can be amusing from time to time. But with Honkai: Star Rail here, and my resurgent interest in Marvel Snap, I think I'v?e given it just abou?t as much time as I can.

The publisher is making changes to its long-term plans

Future digital plans seem to be shifting for Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast. Several video games in development have reportedly been shut down by Wizards of the Coast, as the company looks to ??make changes in its long-term plans.

A new report from Bloomberg claims at lea?st five video games have been cancelled by Wizards of the Coast. A spokesperson told Bloomberg that Wizards is "committed" to digital games. But it has also made changes to its long-term portfolio to "focus on games which are strategically aligned with developing [Wizards'] existing brands", or that show promise in expanding or engaging their audience in new ways.

There will be under 15 people losing their jobs due to the changes, though the Wizards spokesperson tells Bloomberg that they will eb given a chance to seek new roles within the company. Both Hidden Path Entertainment and OtherSide Entertainment are studios potentially affected by the development, according to IGN.

Forgotten realms

Wizards of the Coast has been in the digital realm for a while, but has been making a heavier push in over the last few years. Notably, the company turned to Divinity developer Larian to take up the Baldur's Gate series and work on Baldur's Gate 3. While currently in Early Access, the RPG is slated to go live with its 1.0 version later this year. It's been garnering some praise for its early efforts, too. Some other projects, like the Dark Alliance reboot, haven't been so warmly received.

Wizards had previously stated it has "seven or eight" games set for the near future. It's also been opening studios like Archetype Entertainment, to develop its own video game projects. Parent company Hasbro, however, has been facing a financial downturn, with shares falling 40% last year.

Hopefully, it's more than meets the eye

I've made it a rule to try and avoid writing about game announcements that are nothing but CGI trailers and I'm going to break that rule right now. One of the more curious announcements from The Game Awards was for a new Transformers game called Transformers: Reactivate.

From developer Splash Damage, Reactivate will be a 1-4 player online action game planned for PC and consoles. In the game, a team of hu??man survivors? will Autobots to fight back against an extinction-level threat. The short blurb on the game's website mentions "salvage" which leads me to believe you'll be customizing your Autobot or Autobots.

Sadly, it's still just a CGI trailer. Hopefully, we'll get a better look at what Splash Damage has in store before Transformers: Reactivate enters Early Access next year.

Street Fighter and Power Rangers continue to enjoy a fun, if altogether bemusing, crossover friendship �Not content with adding the iconic Ryu and Chun-Li into nWay fighter Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid, toy maker Hasbro continues to add World Warriors to its brand new action figure line Street Fighter X Power Rangers Lightning Collection.

As featured in the recent Hasbro Pulse Con showcase, the merchandiser revealed that Ryu's fiery rival, Ken Masters, and Red Delta's stellar operative, Cammy White,?? are the next two Wrld Warriors in line to receive a Mighty Morphin' makeover. Ken will step into his? new guise as the Soaring Falcon Ranger, while Cammy becomes the Stinging Crane Range, complete with a brand new projectile attack!

As with Ryu and Chunners' Power Rangers pseudonyms, the new designs for Ken and Cammy reflect the colors and costumes of their Street Fighter iterations, freshly tweaked to fit within the bodysuited battleverse of the long-running Saban franchise. Ken appears to be sleeveless in his ranger gear, which must be borderline heresy to the Power Rangers community. Cammy is instantly recognizable, and even has a red metal beret sculpted directly into her bat?t??le helmet.

Ken and Cammy stand around six inches in height and feature full articulation, allowing them to be posed in all manner of dynamic stances. In addition, the figures come with various effect elements, so they can be displayed performing their unique, special attacks. The figures are expected to retail for around $35 USD, and will launch in March 2023. The Ryu and Chun-Li Power Rangers variants are available to pre-order ?rig??ht now, and are expected to launch a month earlier in February 2023.

Wordle has seen huge success, as it went from cute and engaging daily game to overnight craze. It's now owned by the New York Times, and the Times is partnering with Hasbro now to make a Wordle board game.

CNN reports that the New York Times and Hasbro are collaborating on Wordle: The Party Game, a board game adaptation of the online version.

In the board game version, players compete with each other to guess words the other players have scribbled. Rather than guessing the word solo against the computer, you're trying to guess the other team's chosen five-letter word. It's kind of like Mastermind or Battleship, but with words.

There are a few different game types out of the box, including a "fast mode" that involves a clock and team variations. I also dig the dry-erase boards and markers, so it's easy to just re-use the same board over and ??over again.

Wordle: The Party Game is currently live for pre-order on Amazon, the Hasbro site, and soon on Target. The board game goes ?for $19.99 and will ship on October 1, 2022.

Guess the secret phrase

While strange, it isn't all too surprising. Board games are increasingly popular as of late, and board game adaptations are no different. Look at how many video games have been turned into tabletop versions over the years.

With the popularity of Wordle, I imagine a Worlde board game will absolutely sell like hotcakes. And now I'm just curious if other popular online games are soon to be adapted, too. How much longer until newfound Heardle owner Spotify turns the audio game into a board game?

A whole new way to play an old favorite

Ah, Scrabble. How many boards have been overturned, how many friendships and game nights have been ruined in your name? Plenty, but it's still one of the most well-loved board games of all time, with countless different editions, tournaments, and even a few game shows over the years. Turns out there's even a holiday themed around the word game, aptly named Scrabble Day, which is today, April 13. As part of the festivities, Scopely, Hasbro, and Mattel announced the newest Scrabble project �a new version of the game that you can play right in your web browser, simply called Scrabble.com.

Scrabble.com launches with PvP (either with a friend or online) and PvE modes, as well as other features like Word Tools, which includes access to the official Scrabble Dictionary and an anagram solver (having a built-in way to cheat feels a bit weird, but hey, it's their website, they can do what they want). An official Scrabble Blog and Scrabble Forum will also be available on the website. Additional modes and features will be added in the future, such as a competitive "Tournament" mode. Scrabble.com is free-to-play in your browser, and players can keep up with the latest news on Scrabble's official social media @ScrabbleGO on most platforms, and they're even on Twitch.

With Wordle being as successful as it is, I am honestly not surprised in the slightest that Scrabble is coming for the browser game space. It was a smart move to lean into Scrabble's unique brand, though, rather than going for another Wordle copy.

While browser games used to be where a huge portion of gamers played online, most of that went away after Flash was shut down at the end of 2020. It's cool to see a resurgence of this kind of online play, especially because it makes games so much more accessible. Scrabble has had massive success as a mobile game, as after launch it became the #1 mobi?le word game in the world, which honestly isn't surprising to me at all considering how well-loved the brand is.

Known as the Crimson Hawk and Blue Phoenix Rangers

The worlds of Power Rangers and Street Fighter have crossed over before, but Ryu and Chun-Li should feel a little more at home in their latest crossover. The two fighters are coming to Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid as the Crimson Hawk Ranger and? Blue Phoenix? Ranger.

Revealed over on IGN, the trailer showcases a lot of Ryu's potential combos. Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid has had some excellent gameplay trailers before, and this one's no different. Ryu's classic moves are on full display, though definitely souped-up for the more over-the-top tag bouts of Battle for the Grid.

Chun-Li appears at the end, mostly just to rock out a Spinning Crane Kick, but it's probably safe to assume her move set is similar to her usual Street Fighter kit. You don't fix what isn't broken, right? Both their looks are based off their appearances in mobile game Power Rangers: Legacy Wars, according to IGN's reveal.

Developer nWay also announced that Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid — Super Edition is coming on May 25, the same day as Ryu and Chun-Li. While both fighters will be available as a pack for $12.50 or separately for $5.99 apiece, they'll also be included in the Super Edition, alongside the previous Season Pass content. (Super Edition will also be available as a paid upgrade to current owners, though no pr??ici??ng's been announced yet.)

Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid got a middling reception when it first launched, but the studio's stuck by the game and kept updating it with new Rangers and villains. In the search for good tag fighters, it might be worth another try with the Super Edition and some Marvel Vs. Capcom legacy in these new Street Fighter Rangers.
