Up to 40% of a game's total sales occur in the first month, according to the SSRN Electronic Journal. Consequently, the best strategy for studios is to ensure their titles launch with a bang. Some strategic marketing is necessary to achieve this. Piling up good reviews from critics and gamers is also vital, meaning it's essential for games to la??unch in a polished state.

Over the years, a few titles have missed the mark terr??ibly, re?sulting in catastrophic launches. The following list contains some of the worst offenders in gaming history.

2024 addendum

To borrow a common internet adage, it's like Concord read this list and said, "Hold my beer." As such, we felt it would be a good time to add to this list. It felt as though it would remain incomplete without what is currently the most talked ?about crash.

But rather than slotting in Concord and calling it a day, I'm going to also add a couple of my favorite launch failures. Smangeliso already did a bang??-up job on compiling some of the worst, so those are left untouched.

Jurassic Park Trespasser Jank

13. Trespasser - Jurassic Park

The move to 3D graphics was a painful one. Over-ambition was common, and nowhere was this more obvious than with Trespasser, a game based on the Jurassic Park franchise. The lead-up to the launch promised a? game that used a real-time physics engine and artificial intelligence that would make dinosaurs flock together and act based on their specific needs.

Trespasser was technically impressive when it launched. However, the game was rushed so urgently that every promised feature was only technically implemented. Dinosaur AI, for example, wasn't ready for prime time, so the dinosaur's anger was cranked up to maximum, and that was it. The real-time physics and inverse kinematic?? animations resu??lted in the thunder lizards staggering around drunkenly. It's hilarious, it's easily one of my favorite terrible games.

SimCity 2013 Offline
Image via EA

12. SimCity (2013)

The first SimCity was released in 1989 and became one of the most influential games in the history of the industry. It practically created the city-builder genre and laid the groundwork for all kinds of management games. Makes sense that EA would be the ones to screw that up. The publisher decided that the once single-player city builder should have a multiplayer element, and that was enough to warrant an always-online requirement for SimCity (2013). Previous botched attempts at always-online had soured the alread?y mixed feelings on ??the requirement, and it proved to be warranted when many players had difficulty downloading, connecting, and staying connected to play the game.

It didn't stop at the online issues, however. Many changes to the SimCity formula were not well received, such as an almost microscopic map ??size to build on and mindless traffic that players would put through veritable mazes of streets to demonstrate their insistence on taking the most direct path, rather than an easily acceptable and better alternative. Three years later, EA would remove the always-online requirement, but at that point, it was far too late.

11. WWE 2K20

The WWE franchise has had a long presence in the gaming scene, and titles like Smackdown! vs Raw 2006 and SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain are memorable g??ames that successfully replicate the testosterone-flooded action of sports ent?ertainment.

When WWE 2K20 launched in October 2019, day-one buyers ended up with a game sporting atrocious graphics that looked like they belonged on a PS3. The gameplay wasn't any better, and the numerous glitches made WWE 2K20 a pain to play. The game's terrible reception was one of the reasons WWE 2K21 was canceled. It was for the best, as when the franchise returned with WWE 2K22,?? it achieved double its predece??ssor's launch sales.

10. New World

Amazon's New World hit stores in September 2021, and the launch was nothing but chaos. Servers were flooded, resulting in players waiting for hours before they could start playing. When people were eventually able to play, they discovered that while the core game was good, it was also plagued with game-breaking glitches. Since release, plenty of updates have been pushed out, and the game is in a better state, but it failed to be the enduring classic that Amazon was li?kely aiming for.

9. Anthem

When Anthem was announced, the flashy marketing successfully caught the attention of the gaming world. Unfortunately, when Anthem launched in 2019, it was immediately critically panned. Critics and gamers alike complained about many elements, including boring missions, technical glitches, poor performance, and exce?ssive grinding. The game failed to meet EA's expect?ations, and future developments for it were cut in 2021.

8. The Last of Us Part 1 (PC)

Though the PS5 version launched without any major issues, the PC port of The Last of Us Part 1 has been nothing short of a disaster. Players were greeted with technical issues and absurdly long loading times, making the game unplayable for some. Since launch, many have ??pointed the finger at Iron Galaxy, the studio Naughty Dog entrusted with the port. It won't be the last time the studio appears on the list, so there may be some truth to the accusations.

7. Fallout 76

In 2018, Bethesda took Fallout online with Fallout 76. The game promised to allow players to explore dystopian settings with friends, which is an idea that has great potential. When Fallout 76 launched in November 2018, it was far from what gamers expected, resulting in the PC version scoring a measly 52 on Metacritic. Due to the bad press, many gamers stayed away, and as a result, Fallout 76 had lower launch sales numbers than Fallout 4 and Fallout New Vegas.

6. Batman: Arkham Knight (PC)

Arkham Knight's PS4 and Xbox One versions were developed by Rocksteady Studios, and the PC port was handed off to Iron Galaxy. This proved to be a mistake. When Arkham Knights launched on PC, it?? crashed constantly and featured technical issues that rendered it unplayable for many.

The situation got so bad that Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment suspended sales of the Windows version of the game in June 2015 while de?velopers worked on patches to fix the game. Though the game has improved plenty, the his??torically disastrous launch won't be forgotten any time soon.

5. eFootball

The free-to-play sports game eFootball was released in September 2021. The concept wasn't a bad one, though the execution left a lot to ?be desired. Gamers were met with atrocious graphics, endless technical issues, and visual bugs that have ma??de for some hilarious screenshots. With a score of 25 on Metacritic, it is one of the lowest-rated games of all time.

4. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition

When it was revealed that the GTA trilogy would receive a remake, excitement was high. Launch day arrived in November 2021, and gamers were less than satisfied. The trilogy was rife with technical issues, ugly character models, and visual errors, which should have been spotted during the QA phase of development. To placate fans, Rockstar offered th??e original trilogy to all customers who had purchased the remake via the Rockstar Store.

3. Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is a title that has been a ubiquitous fixture in gaming for years, and not always for good reasons. When Cyberpunk 2077 launched in 2020, the experience was so bad droves of gamers demanded re??funds, and Sony eventually pulled the game from the PS Store. Fortunately, the story doesn't end on a sour note, as developers have worked hard to improve the game, and after several patches and updates, the game is one of the most enjoyable open-world titles on current-gen consoles.

Screenshot by Hello Games.

2. No Man's Sky

Like many other titles on the list, the developers made plenty of big promises before the game's release. When No Man's Sky launched, gamers realized that many of the promised features were missing, and the performance was poor. There was plenty of outrage, though Hello Games didn't abandon No Man's Sky. Instead, developers got to work releasing patches and updates that slowly but surely improved the game. Today, No Man's Sky is a bestseller available o?n almo??st all platforms.

Concord Servers going offline

1. Concord

Concord's failed launch was so severe that it will probably be studied for years to come. It was enough to warrant an update on this list. It was reportedly the result of years of work and millions upon millions of dollars, and lasted two weeks before it was pulled from marketplaces with a refund being issued to those who had bought it. At least one report suggests that Sony dumped $400 million into the project and was betting on it being the future of the brand. Take that with a grain of salt; it hasn't yet been substantiated. However, the live service sector of the industry is packed to the gills with people hoping to be the next Fortnite, and simply dropping an expensive game in there is not enough to capture the crowd. Whether or not Concord reappea??rs in some form in the future remains to be seen.

There's no shortage of games with failed launches, and the future will feature plenty more. From these cases, we learn that although delays may be frustrating, terrible launches are far worse. We also see that even the worst launches don't have to spell the end for a game so lon??g as developers persevere.

Hello Games gave us cryptic messages teasing another No Man’s Sky update, but now they’ve unveiled the whole? plan. Or, at least, the first half of the full plan.?

The No Man’s Sky 5.0 update is called “Worlds Part 1,â€?and it’s a doozy. The update is giving a facelift to the entire galaxy, and it’s making exploration more immersive than?? ever. There are some big visual changes â€?like gravitational anomalies that create Pandora-esque floating islands â€?that will dramatically change how planets look, but I’m even more excited for all the small touches that Hello Games is rolling out.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7-9Bf47yfs

New shadow and lighting systems will make everything you see on the surface of a planet more realistic. The new water, wind, and weather systems will help everything to actually feel real. Water behavior has changed, so now waves will form in oceans and naturally respond to changing wind patterns. The wind will also move incoming storms and the flora on planetary surfaces. When a storm clears and you can finally look up, new lighting? effects and clouds make the skies more vibrant than ever.

All of those visual changes come alongside some new gameplay elements too. There’s a ton of new animals coming to the game, including some walking, possibly sentient??, buildings that I can’t wait to encounter. Enemies like the giant insect queen are bringing new challenges to the game, but the unlockable Liquidator combat mech also adds a new way to tackle them.  Every environment is getting something new to discover or fight.

By now I shouldn’t be surprised when a No Man Sky update makes the game feel brand-new again, but every time this happens, I feel like I’ve been caught off guard. No Man’s Sky really is the game that keeps on giving, and the journey isn't over yet. In a deep dive video exploring the new additions to the game, ?Hello Games co-founder Sean Murray says, “The update is called ‘Part 1â€?because, I guess, there’s much more to come.â€?I’m looking forward to being shocked and delighted all over again.

Fans in the No Man's Sky community are once again getting their hopes up, as the developer is teasing what is almost certainly the next big ??update. This is par for the course when it comes to the studio's co-founder Sean Murray, but this t?ime, it seems he's going slightly off the rails.

Over the course of several posts on X, Murray has been hinting at something coming to No Man's Sky through the ancient medium of emojis. In this case, Earth ones. The latest one embedded below shows Earth surrou??nded by a "circle" (I u??se the term loosely) of candles.

//twitter.com/NoMansSky/status/1813532150039560393

An earlier one showed many Earths forming the shape of some kind of cowboy? There were a few more before that, showing just three of the emojis in a r??ow, suggesting his train of thought began in a less frantic vain.

So what does it all mean?

As ever, Murray is engaging in a bit of marketing genius, using a free social media platform to tease new content, and it absolutely works. Just take a look at the No Man's Sky subreddit to see a few ??discussions on what the Earth emojis could possibly b??e referring to.

This thread suggests that the developer posting three in a row in a specific sequence suggests some sort of 3-2-1 countdown. Conversely, this thread opens with a plea to fans to temper expectations, addi??ng that the onslaught of teases "may not be what we ?think it is."

Could they be right? Well, another X post from Murray that went live just moments ago has given us a bit of an update on the studio's next project, Light No Fire. In a similar style to NMS, Hello Games' next offering is said to be "about adventure, building, survival and exploration together," which will be set "on a fantasy planet the size of Earth," according to Steam.

However, another Reddit user has noted that a particular screen opens up when you load into the game, which shows the words "No Man's Sky Worlds: Part 1." Potential spoilers ahead!

//www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/1e5ftnx/it_happened_%E3%81%A4_%E3%81%A4/

Several others have uploaded similar screenshots, which do indeed point to No Man's Sky getting an overhaul, particularly?? for the game's "water and cloud rendering." The image also shows a boost to things like biomes, creatures, colors, and lighting, as well as the next Expedition.

In short: it's almost certainly the next major patch for the game. However, it looks as though information and teases are still being drip-fed, so we'll need to keep a close eye on social media and the official NMS website to see what it'll result in.

Who knows, by the tim??e this article goes live, an update may already be rolling out.

I can still remember the awe that washed over me the first time I flew my ship out into the depths of space in No Man’s Sky

It was December 2016, and I was as I often am a little late to the party. I’d somewhat followed the No Man’s Sky marketing, intrigued by the prospect of getting to live out my space-age fantasies, and I’d absolutely caught wind of the disastrous launch. That didn’t wo??rry me as I headed off into the depths of space I was borrowing my brother’s copy of the game, anyway. I figured I’d fly for a few hours until, like apparently everyone else had, I got bored and the??n returned the game. A few months later, I was 300 hours in, and my brother said I could just keep it.

Since then, No Man Sky has pulled a wild turnaround, winning back the people who left it disenchanted and expanding its player base dramatically. Years of free, high-quality updates have transformed the game into something even better than what was promised at launch. The game just launched a new “expeditioncalled Adrift that’s aimed at transporting players back in time and giving them a taste of what No Man’s Sky was like at launch. I couldn’t help but dive back into the game, and the journey that Adrift took me on reminded me how magical the?? game has always been.

Back to basics

Adrift resets No Man’s Sky by emptying out the galaxy. All the alien races we’ve come to know over the years have mysteriously vanished, leaving piles of ominous space goop and abandoned stations in their wake. Many of the empty planets are infested with giant sandworms that shake the?? ground as they move and constantly remind you that danger lurks around every planetary corner.

Those sandworms give me all the motivation I need to hurry up my ship repairs and get off-world as soon as possible. As I get to work beginning my journey, it becomes abundantly clear that Adrift isn’t a full reset to the game, and once I’m off-world, the difference between Adrift and No Man’s Sky 1.0 becomes even clearer. When the game first launched, there were alien races everywhere, but the adventure felt lonely because they gave you so little to do. Adrift recreates that loneliness by banishing the aliens, but it actually pr??ovides me with m?ore to do than 1.0 ever did.

The milestone system that existed at launch is still present, but now you get in-game rewards, rather than just a shiny on-screen badge, by doing things like repairing your ship, exploring multiple worlds, or even walking hundreds of miles. It’s a subtle change that has a dramatic impact on how the game feels. There’s also an ongoing quest that dovetails with the Atlas path and the journey to the center of the galaxy that were the only driving forces in the original game. Collectively, the changes make Adrift play like my nostalgia-drenched memories of 1.0 instead of the way the game actually was at the time. At launch, No Man’s Sky all but forced me to create my own mental story justifying my interstellar adventure. Adrift allows, and even encourages, me to get imaginative, but it also ma?kes me feel more like I’m actually ??playing a game than 1.0 ever did.

A real space adventure

By the time I’d jumped to a few different worlds and completed the first leg of the Adrift quest line, I was itching to abandon the story and wander aimlessly around the galaxy once again. More than anything, my experience with the latest No Man’s Sky expedition just reminded me why the game was able to make such a phenomenal recovery after its terr?ible launch.

Even when No Man’s Sky’s galaxy is nearly empty, it feels like it's real and really alive. Flying out of a gravity well to see a multi-planet system sprawling out before you is just as awe-inspiring today as it was almost a decade ago. Planets with fully explorable oceans, caves, mountains, and plains, all populated by bizarre monstrosities, are endlessly intriguing. Running out of fuel on an intensely irradiated planet and making a mad scramble for resources is a rush. On its own, the galaxy is worth a few dozen hours of exploration. To keep players engaged for hundreds of hours, No Man’s Sky desperately needed the changes ??that it’s made over the years, but the basic experience that forms the core of its vision was solid from the beginning. Not every ambitious but flawed game can say the same.

Let's play a game. Let's see how long I can talk about No Man's Sky without bringing up its redemptive arc (this doesn't count, by the?? way).

The universe-exploration game with the chill soundtrack has certainly found its home among sci-fi enthusiasts, and the developer's co-founder is, once again, up to his old tricks. Sean Murray recently tweeted something that has No Man's Sky fans pretty hyped up. What is it? Oh, it's just an Omega symbol he posted on Twitter/X. Why is that a big deal? Because Murray always tweets a singular tease like this whenever a big update is due to drop.

//twitter.com/NoMansSky/status/1756254530797240617

In fact, he's posted it more than once, including three consecutive Omega symbols in one tweet. This is not a drill, pe??ople!

"So what is it?" - obscure Red Dwarf reference

This is absolutely typical of Murray. As usual, these teases leave no clue (apart from the tease itself) as to what's coming. It's become part of the No Man's Sky marketing model and, honestly, looking at the comments and the recent posts on Reddit, it absolutely works.

Speculations have been inbound since ??the emoji post, with one person suggesting that it's some sort of fabled Horseshoe Update. We can't rule it out, though I think even Hello Games might draw the line there.

Released in 2016, No Man's Sky has been something of a unique entry in modern gaming. Encapsulating a galactic playground boasting more than 18 quintillion planets to discover, its initial and disastrous launch has become a distant memory. Vast (and free) updates have exceeded expectations, bringing us a game that's gone down as one of t?he best examples of a redemptive arc ever.

(Damn it!)

At this moment in time, No Man's Sky is easily one of the best sandbox games around.? We're long past those dark days when the overhyped game underdelivered to the pain? of waiting fans. Now, with the holiday season upon us, Hello Games is giving us one more chance to replay this year's limited-span content.

To see the year out, No Man's Sky is ?bringing back 2023's community Expeditions, "offering explorers another opportunity to experience these stories and events and earn exclusive rewards."

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPgdHZn3hs0

They'll only be available for a limited amount of time, but it at least gives those who missed it the chance to play them o??ut. Or for those who ?have already experienced them, an opportunity to revisit.

On top of this, the studio is also reintroducing Ca??rtographers, a fan favorite Expedition that originally did the rounds in 2021. The release schedules for each of these are as follows:

No Man's Sky Utopia Expedition - Dates

This one is already in full swing. Yo?u'll be able to work with other Travellers to "rebuild an abandoned solar system? for the mysterious Utopia Foundation."

This Expedition rolled out on December 8 and is going on until December 15, so you still have a ??few days left to check it out.

No Man's Sky Singularity Expedition - Dates

No Man's Sky: a robot on a colorful planet with bright trees.

This was the 10th Expedition to be added to No Man's Sky. Originally coming out in June, Singularity is about expanding the lore for the Interceptor update that rolled out earlier this year.

Hello Games describes it as a "mystery that touches upon artificial intelligence, the will to exist, and the very nature of what it means to be alive." Yo?u can revisit this between December 15 and December 22.

No Man's Sky Cartographers Expedition - Dates

No Man's Sky: a settlement on a planet with the night sky filled with stars.

From December 22 to December 29, you'll get to re-experience Cartographers. This was the third Expedition and focused on deep exploration. So if you're the? kind of person who l??ikes a lot of exploring, this one is for you.

It originally came out in September 2021, and has you surveying the "fiery planet ??of Coul Major," where you'll "explore its surface as you work to repair your bespoke starship."

No Man's Sky Voyages Expedition - Dates

No Man's Sky: a traveler looks out onto the horizon of a dark planet.

To see us into the new year, No Man's Sky?? will bring back Voyagers. This was the 11th Expedition and it encourages players to seek out ??interesting worlds, cataloging their findings.

You'll get to play this between December 29 and January 8, so it's a nice one to keep people who don't have much planned over New Year busy. You can read more about the Expedition Redux here.

In other news...

Did you know that it's been ten years since No Man's Sky was first announced? A video on YouTube (e?mbedded above) briefly chronicl?es the journey the game and the team had between then and now. It shows Sean Murray discussing the game with Geoff Keighly back in 2013.

We s??ee all the changes it's been through and all the updates that have significan??tly improved the original release from 2016.

From one of the most disappointing releases of its generation to one of the most celebrated sci-fi games in recent memory, there's a reason people keep referring to No Man's Sky in terms of its redemptive arc.

For the tenth anniversary since the announcement of No Man’s Sky, Hello Games has revealed their next game, Light No Fire. As ?is tradition at The Game Awards, it also came with a traile??r.

Light No Fire is aiming to?? be a survival sandbox game set in a massive, procedurally generated open world claimed to be comparative in size to Earth. That’s the planet we live on!

//youtu.be/jKQem4Z6ioQ?feature=shared

The trailer shows off multiplayer, construction, and all kinds of traversal types on birds and dragons. The order of the day seems to be scale, but t?here are some cool scenes, like rabbit people bowing for some reason.

Scale is nice, but I’d like to see more about how it will differentiate itself from other survival sandbox games. Particularly No Man’s Sky. It’s a pretty full genre right now, and “big mapisn’t really the selling point it used to be. However, Hello Games has learned a lot from the constant development of No Man’s Sky.

Light No Fire has no announced release window, and the only announced pl?atform right now is P?C.

Before Starfield, there was No Man's Sky. The universe exploration title from ??Hello Games went through a tumultuous launch, but is celebrated these days. In fact, it looks as though it's experiencing its biggest uptick in a while.

According to a recent tweet from the developer's own Sean Murray, No Man's Sky is "having its biggest month in t?he last few years," with this message being accompanied by a flexing arm?? emoji.

//twitter.com/NoMansSky/status/1701254906840072229

A quick look on SteamDB does indeed show that thin?gs have been looking up, particularly over the last couple of weeks, based on the lifetime player count chart.

Reasons for this are likely varied

There are lots of reason why a game would experience a burst in popularity. In the case of No Man's Sky, it could be down to the recent ECHOES update that added mechanical lifeforms to the game.

It could also be down to a very recent experimental build that's been sent out to PC. Hello Games is nothing if not persistent in keeping its at once hyped sci-fi release in good standing, with plenty of patches and new conte??nt.

However, perhaps you're thinking what some of us are thinking. Could the game experiencing one of its best months in years be down to the release of Starfield? It would certainly be crass to suggest it's a major factor in No Man's Sky's recent popularity.

However, given that comparisons will no doubt have been drawn between this game and Bethesda's new sci-fi RPG, it's not too much of a stretch to think that space exploration is on a lot of gamer's minds right now. In which case, to paraphrase Dr Zoidberg: why not No Man's Sky?

Before Starfield, there was No Man's Sky. And what a journey it's b?een. It may have started out badly when it launched in 2016, but it's enjoyed one of the biggest redemptive arcs in gaming. We've had tons of free updates and plenty of extra content, and now the next big patch is already here.

Say hello to ECHOES. This is the newest update for No Man's Sky, which adds even more to the already massive space exploration title. Hello Games says it's? the lar??gest update of the year, celebrating seven years since the game's massive relaunch.

//youtu.be/8g2YqU-_GtA

And once again, we're treated to a bevy of new content No Man's Sky players won't have to pay for as extra DLC. Included in Update 4.4 is the introduction of mechanical lifeforms, bringing their own unique rituals and language. The No Man's Sky patch notes describe them as "a long-hi??dden civilisation of robotic beings."

But wait! There's more!

ECHOES also features outlaw capital ships, which are "fearsome Pirate Dread?noughts" ?that "cruise between the stars and terrorise merchant fleets," if you're into that sort of thing.

Then there's a new Multi-Tool Decommissioning Terminal on the Space Anomaly that allows you to "become a ??Multi-Tool salvage hunter" and discover a host of other goods.

On top of that, developer Hello Games has also tweaked the PSVR2 version of No Man's Sky. Specifically, this latest patch boosts the game's resolution, leading to a sharper image. It's one of several major platform updates this year, as the spacefaring adventure also just revealed its Mac version.

The full patch notes detail a long, long list of quality-of-life updates, Twitch drops, and even elements for some customization. Suffice it to say, ECHOES is once again another triumph for NMS. It's been said countless times already, but it's hard to imagine that this once hyped sci-fi game that became the cen??ter of much controversy and lawsuits then went on to ultimately redeem itself with free DLC and a dedicated community of players.

Sometimes it's hard to imagine that No Man's Sky came out seven years ago! What was once the most controversial game in recent history (with accusations of false advertising thrown about) is easily now one of the best sci-fi games of the?? previous (or even current) generation. And now ev??en more content is on the way.

A recent video from the guys at Hello Games acknowledges the time that has passed with a special anniversary video. It showcases all the? major ??changes and free DLC that have been implemented over the past seven years.

Then, right at the end, a brief announcement that "ECHOES" is on the way. We don't know what this is, other than it being some new No Man's Sky content.

Sean Murray teases Twitter once more

Typically, when it comes to updates for the procedurally? generated universe simulator, the studio's own Sean Murray will tease what's coming next.

This one is no di?fferent, but a tweet from the man himself doesn't really clue us in. With previous updates, Murray will often upload a single emoj??i to his Twitter account, often alluding to what fans can expect next.

However, with "ECHOES," all we get is some question marks, which really only adds to the mystery. Suffice it to say, fans will be excited to see what No Man's Sky has in store.

//twitter.com/NoMansSk??y/status/1692521575730274375

According to the game's Wiki page, there have been 24 updates since it launched in 2016. All of which have been free. The studio may have started out on the wrong foot but NMS now has a strong following. We don't yet know when the next major patch is coming out, but it shows just how committed the ??team has been? in making sure this mind-bogglingly large game just gets bigger and bigger.

It'll have cross-play and cross-save

Thanks to a series of Apple-related tweets from Hello Games' Sean Murray, many have speculated that No Man's Sky was coming to Mac. Now, that ?dream has become a reality, as it transpires that the universe exploration game has now become available for the? Windows alternative.

The news comes from the man himself on Twitter, announcing the Mac version via a promotional video. Along with the teaser, here's an overview of what No Man's Sky fans will be treated to in this port. Namely, the space-faring title will have cross-play and cross-save, all the updates that have occurred over the last seven years, and more. Best of all, it's completely free to those who own the game on Steam.

//twitter.com/NoMansSky/status/166?4257765349498880

Murray also tweeted another little nugget of information, which shows that the Mac version also supports VR. According to a report from Eurogamer, the game will run on any Mac that uses Apple Silicon. Therefor??e, the Mac Mini, Mac Studio, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro should be suitable. The requirements on Steam say you will need an Intel i5 processor and at least an AMD Radeon Pro 570X @ 4 GB, as well as macOS Monterey 12.3.

Once considered one of the most tumultuous video game launches ever, those who abandoned No Man's Sky would be forgiven for assuming things hadn't moved on. However, you couldn't be further from the truth. With a series of free updates that have significantly improved the experience while also delivering new content, Hello Games has really turned the tide. It even won a BAFTA in 2022 for "Best Evolvin?g Game." That's certainly a different story when compared to how things were in 2016.

The Waypoint update overhauls the core of No Man's Sky

No Man's Sky journeys onto the Nintendo Switch today, and arriving alongside it is update 4.0. The "Waypoint" update overhauls some fundamental pieces of the No Man's Sky experience, from inventory and UI to game modes.

One big part of the update is custom game modes. Players can essentially tailor the gameplay of No Man's Sky to their liking through different presets and options. Tick survival elements all ??the way down if you don't want to deal with toxic hazards, or combat way up if you want a bit of a cha??llenge. Even elements like fuel usage can be set to "free", letting you zip around the stars with no gas fees attached.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWgZ2kjL4bM

This adds to the roster of already existing modes, like Normal, Creative, and the Community Expeditions. Another new mode setting, Relaxed, is also being added. It's described as an accessible, laid-back experience for players who want to check out No Man's Sky with less danger and grinding invol??ved. Sounds like a good time, to be honest?.

Sky's the limit

Of course, there is even more in this No Man's Sky update. Seamless Auto-Saves are a big one, letting player?s not worry too much about m??aking manual save points.

AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2 is getting integrated too, so all P?C players can get a boost in performance regardless of what card they're using.

Special rockets can now deliver goods up and into space for sale, and Drop Pods have more in-game data made apparent. The inventory itself is also seeing a major overhaul, with new icons a??nd better clarification for managing all?? those goods.

Sprinkle in some touches like new planetary effects and making the anomalies a little more eerie. No Man's Sky players are getting a lot in this new drop. While I feel like I'm saying that with every NMS update, it's also true.

The Waypoint update for No Man's Sky is free for all players.

Things are looking up for Hello Games

We're now over six years after the launch of No Man's Sky, and yet, the game is more lively than it has ever been. The game has gotten countless updates to both improve quality of life and hugely expand on the game's world and content, and there's still more coming. To get the scoop on the future of No Man's Sky, Eurogamer sat down with public-facing Hello ??Games developer Sean Murray, who explained the upcoming 4.0 u?pdate, as well as the future of where the company is heading next.

The star of the show here is that 4.0 update, which has some big changes headed our way. Going live on Friday, October 7, one of the biggest features of the release with the 4.0 update is that No Man's Sky is finally coming to Nintendo Switch. This is pretty exciting stuff for fans who are looking forward to taking? the adventure on the go, but there are some changes that are being made to the game to ensure it can run on the console. For example, the game's settlements won't be available on the Switch, be?cause of the processing power it takes to have them going in the game.

//twitter.com/NoMansSky/status/157293380??9506598915

The 4.0 update for No Man's Sky also includes some exciting new features for fans, such as the Relaxed mode, which is available for both new saves and existing ones, and will allow players to forgo some of the grind and chill out. Survival mode is also gett?ing an overhaul to make it a "much more challenging, more unique experience." Custom games are new, too, and will allow players to curate? their game to best fit their own playstyle. There are also just some usual quality of life changes coming as well, which will streamline inventories and increase level caps, for example.

As far as Hell0 Games itself, it sounds like the studio is in much better condition than it was a few years ago. Thanks to the fans' warm reception to all of the new updates, the team's morale has improved significantly year-over-year, Murray said. While he didn't have much more to add other than the next project the studio is working on that we already knew about, he made it clear that the studio is in high? spirits, and tackling the large scope of their newest project with renewed enthusias??m.

Life in space

Hello Games is back with another big update, this time addressing freighters. The massive hub ships get an overhaul in the Endurance Update for No Man's Sky today, making space-base life even cooler.

The Endurance Update takes a huge rework to the freighter bases of No Man's Sky. New parts and themed rooms with customization options let you design the Normandy, Rocinante, or Enterpr?ise of your dreams.

Specialist crew will also now walk around your base, having thoughts and patrolling the area. Agricultural Modules let players build a farm on their ship, taking Stardew Valley into the stars. And? freighte?r exteriors can get some observation decks and catwalks for a little out-of-ship sightseeing stroll, too.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSvwcneTNu4

Base-building also gets a few quality-of-life ?updates, like preview holograms showing up through walls. Existing base parts can be replaced without deleting their old spots, so you don't have to worry too much about snapping on just right.

Plus, the univers?e gets even more beautiful with enhanced nebulae and black holes. Asteroids get a little more varied too, adding a bit more for the miners out there. And if you like creepy stuff, well, you can seek out some organic frigates too.

Home, home among the stars

Of course, alongside the big updates to freighters and celestial forces, there are also a ton of other small touch-ups and quality-of-life improvements. Hello Games keeps carrying on with No Man's Sky updates, building up and up with each new update, like clockwork.

The space life sim is also expected to arrive on Nintendo Switch on October 7, 2022. After seeing these huge freighters and vast ship layouts, I'm pretty intrigued to see how this universe manages to squeeze onto the Switch. Until then, the Endurance Update is live for all platforms that No Man's Sky is available on today.

Hello Games has locked in a launch date for the Nintendo Switch version of No Man's Sky. The studio is partnering with Bandai Namco Entertainment to bring No Man's Sky to Switch on Oct. 7, 2022.

This version of Hello Games' space exploration sim will be available both physically and on the Nintendo eShop. Those picking the game up will get all updates that have been added to the game so far (and there have been a lot), plus all future updates.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=OD5Sxbeh0YE

While it's a bit later than originally intended for the Switch version of No Man's Sky, ?it's still wild to see this game make its way to the handheld hybrid console a??t all.

You can't take the sky from me

Since it first launched, No Man's Sky has been a wild game to follow. Its initial offering seemed to fall short of the expecta??tions many had ??for it.

But as time carried on, Hello Games has continued to update and build No Man's Sky up, to th?e?? point that it feels unrecognizable at times from that initial launch in 2016.

Every once in a while now, we get a new update that adds something huge like smuggling or settlements into the fold. Or, you know, the Normandy from Mass Effect.

We'll see how this vast, ever-expanding universe translates to the small form factor later this year. No Man's Sky hits Nintendo Switch on Oct. 7, 2022.

Assemble a space pirate crew in the new update

Hello Games keeps on expanding the universe of No Man's Sky. Today, it's not just about the Sentinels or stars, though. The Outlaws update for No Man's Sky brings some more space piracy into the mix.

Outlaw stations are popping up across the s?ystem. They've got their own merchants, marketplace, and unique mission agents. Contraband can be smuggled to them and sold. New missions and related rewards are available, and you'll have to deal with reputation mechanics if you engage in the piracy.

Of course, the system authorities don't look kindly on all that. They'll scan your ship for contraband, so intr?epid smugglers will need to mask the??ir presence. And when all else fails, the new Wingman system will let players call in buddies to help fend off enemy ships.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2UHduOn5ZE

Come (solar) sail away

Ship-to-ship combat has also been overhauled in No Man's Sky. Shields and revamped weapons provide a little more variety, dogfights can head down into?? the planetary atmosphere, and destruction effects are overhauled. Pirate raids can attack settlements. My personal favorite is the new auto-follow option for fighting it out in space. This mode, either toggleable or on-hold, has the onboard ship computer auto-track ships, allowing players to focus on weapons without needing to steer. It's a good option for both ease and accessibility.

No Man's Sky Outlaws update

I feel like I keep saying this, but No Man's Sky updates just keep making this game larger and larger. Even though the Outlaws update focuses on the ship combat and piracy of No Man's Sky, there's a??lso an entire section about updated cloth physics. And did I mention solar sail ships? Yes, solar ships. They're procedurally-gen?erated and can be found all over the universe.

Hello Games just added a massive mech update in February with the Sentinel update. Now, in April, the team is launching an entire Outlaws update. It really just seems li?ke this is the space sim that will keep on trucking.

Let the AI take the wheel

No Man's Sky got another big update out of the blue today, dubbed the Sentinel Update. The new ??patch reworks the combat and Sentinel enemies??, as well as a new Expedition and more.

The crux of the Sentinels Update is the Sentinels themselves. The robotic automatic defenses of various planets are bothersome, yes. But the Sentinels Update for No Man's Sky is making t??hem a bit more formidable of a foe. The new Hardframe Battle Mech can employ a jetpack in battle, as well as a flame?thrower.

Sent??inels are also getting their own control posts called Pillars, which serve as highly-guarded forts. Heavy Combat Drones can also roll out to deal with pesky explorers, ?and Sentinel drones will have a wider range of weapons to use in fights. Repair drones can also deploy, and there are some huge battles you can get into with Sentinel forces.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEJfPZPTYRA

The explorers of No Man's Sky get some new toys in this update too, though. More Multi-tools can be carried and the Minotaur mech has been improved. The latter even has an AI function you can equip now, so it can follow you around and help out like your very own BT.

More quality-of-life features are included as well, like faster warping and increased companion slots. Players with compatible graphics cards on PC can also opt into NVIDIA's Deep Learning Anti-Aliasing tech, or DLAA, and Hello Games confirms No Man's Sky will support the Steam Deck.

It's another big post-launch update to add to the bevy of No Man's Sky u??pdates. But, like previous ones, it continues to amaze me how this game stays supported through the years. Cheers to all the explorers setting off to fight the Sentinels today.

Find a new home among the stars, filled with NPCs

The vast expanse of No Man's Sky keeps growing, and its latest update lets you take charge of the frontiers. The Frontiers Update, out today, allows players to become the overseer of their very own, procedurally generated alien settlement, while also?? overhauling the base building?? experience.

Frontiers is No Man's Sky's 17th free update, and it centers on the new settlements. By earning the respect of the local citizens of a settlement, you can become the overseer. ??And that comes with some perks: choosing what to build, the town's name, organizing festivals, resolving disputes, and yes, defending the town against Sentinel attacks.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=udDXRQMPyKQ

Every settlement is procedurally generated, with its own unique bui?ldings, layouts, color schemes, and both interior and exterior decoration. You can choose what to build, how to expand, and ultimately?? what your settlement will be as time goes on. But also, some defensive buildings will probably be a good idea, to help with those pesky Sentinels.

Base building has also been overhauled, with parts now laid out in a clear grid and a streamlined building interface making it a bit easier to build the hub of you?r dreams. And yes, there are some other updates too; destruction is crunchier, combat looks a bit prettier, you can save more discoveries than before, and multicolored nebulas now populate the far reac?hes of space.

With update after update, it's honestly amazing to see what No Man's Sky has become over the years. The fact that these have been free updates too has been something else. I guess buying it back in 2016 has paid off a bit. But still, Hello Games really seems to have gone beyond just righting the ship. I mean, settlements with actual disputes, defense scenarios, and unique layouts and aesthetic flavors? It's a whole new frontier for No Man's Sky.

Burning Crusade isn't the only flying mount game in town

Hello Games' No Man's Sky keeps on growing, and the new Prisms update is adding even more to the?? mix in terms of lighting, interio??rs, and things that can fly.

Update 3.5 features a big visual overhaul of No Man's Sky, adding screen space reflection for PC, next-gen consoles, and Xbox One X. Volumetric lighting and parallax oc?clusion mapping add more ambiance, and on PC, players can take advantage of deep learning super sampling (DLSS) to get better performance and visual quality.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRhamOB3-Rc

It's not just a visual update, however. Caves will get more detailed and diverse, fur has been added to a range of creatures, and yes, you can ride your flying pets. Low-flying creatures like giant beetles and butterflies can all carry you across the ski??es of?? planets.

No Man's Sky has been steadily expanding since its launch in 2016, gradually becoming the game eager fans had dreamed it would be—and possibly even beyond that. I mean, it had the Normandy from Mass Effect added for a spell. That's rad!

The Alliance's finest is in No Man's Sky

The ship that carried Commander Shepard and their crew through the Mass Effect trilogy is coming to another game. No Man's Sky players have unlocked the reward for a ??mysterious expedition: the ??Normandy SR-1.

Travelers in No Man's Sky can encounter the Normandy as part of the second expedition and have the opportunity to add it permanently to their fleet. The s?hip's description has some fun little references too, like how it "needs aquarium."

Players have until M??ay 31 to undertake the Beachhead expedition for themselves. So if you want to add the Normandy to your fleet, better g?et moving!

Expeditions were added a little while ago to bring seasonal content to No Man's Sky, offering rewards for players who ventured and completed tasks together. Honestly, if more ships like the Normandy are going to end up being the rewards, I think it might be time for me to start playing No Man's Sky again.

It may have launched a little rough, but No Man's Sky has been steadily building up over the years, with additions like the massive Origins update bringi??ng it closer to, maybe even beyond, its original vision. With the Normandy in the game, it'll be pretty exciting to see what else Hello Games has in store for future expeditions.

Set off for new stars

No Man's Sky just keeps growing, with no ?sign of stopping. Developer Hello Games announced a new update today called the Expedit??ions update, which brings a set of challenges in a seasonal format to the space exploration sim.

Update 3.3 brings Expeditions to No Man's Sky, which are a new way to start out a journey in a different mode from a regular save file. Every Expedition starts play??ers on a fixed point in the u??niverse, to complete a series of Milestones and goals to win rewards. It also seems like Expeditions are intended to be fairly social events, with players starting on similar planets and specific "Rendezvous Planets" established along the route to create hubs of activity.

Milestones are open-ended and, according to Hello Games, intended to give players a chance to explore different aspects of No Man's Sky. Several Milestones make up each Phase on the Expedition map, with each Phase finished offering a prize, and finishing an entire Expedition yi??elds an additional reward.

These Expeditions are limited-time only, and Hello Games plans on adding?? new Expeditions regularly. At the end of the Expedition, rewards will no longer be earned and the save will convert to a Normal mode save. Any rewards earned in this mode can be redeemed for free on other saves in any game m?ode though, so that sick golden spaceship can carry over to your main game.

There are also several more quality-of-life updates including a new HUD, updated bases and improved cross-platform play, rebalanced recipe costs, and a new mission board. Really, the breadth of the updates that are still coming to this game is staggering—the Companions update was just last month, and last year Hello Games launched the massive Origins updateNo Man's Sky is going a bit above and beyond a redemption story, and at this p??oint, I'm wondering where the limit is for future a??dditions.

Hey there did I tell you 'bout my alien friend?

For all of you dedicated explorers of infinity and beyond, Hello Games has launched the newest update for its intergalactic explorer No Man's Sky. And if you've been feeling a little lonely on the journey into the v??ast unknown, then you're about to get some company.

The "Companions" update adds the option to adopt, train, and, of course, love a wide variety of strange alien creatures, who will then accompany you as you trek through uncharted worlds and uncover further yet-to-evolve species. If you fancy PLAYING GOD, then you can also play around with the eggs of your pal, in order to breed brand new species, not unlike the abomination that hung out with the heroes in the Pole Position cartoon. Check the action out in the new?? trailer below.

Up to six creatures can be befriended at once, and they will learn and grow alongsi??de you, reacting to your emotes and actions, while helping you out on your sojourns by locating re?sources, digging up treasures, providing light, and fighting enemies, as defined by each creatures unique personality and capabilities.

In addition to the new Companions mechanic, today's update feature a huge slew of balance tweaks and bug stomps, all of which you can check out in the official patch notes right here. While No Man's Sky might never quite remove the negative reputation that surrounded its 2016 launch (2016!) the open-world sci-fi epic has certainly gone some way to expanding and fine-tuning its fantastical universe, offering its dedicated community hours upon hour??s of time-melting, star-hopping experiences.

Luscious technical boost coming to intergalactic explorer

Hello Games has revealed that No Man's Sky is the latest title to be afforded a major upgrade for next-gen platforms. No Man's Sky: Next Generation will be offered as a free download to all current NMS players on PS4, PC, and Xbox One.

The upgrade will boost the visual and technical prowess of No Man's Sky across the board, allowing for 4K resolution at 60 FPS, longer draw distances, deeper texture density, improved grass physics and "warp-speed" loading times. Console players are expected to see the most significant cha?nges in comparison to the current PS4 and Xbox One release, while PC players - particularly those playing on "Ultra" settings - will also see some improvements in overall visual fidelity.

Additionally, No Man's Sky: Next Generation will support 32-player multiplayer, cross-play functions, and advanced audio and VR improvements, as well as support for the PS5's Haptic Feedback capabilities. The upgrade will launch on the same day as the new consoles (so November 10 for Xbox Series X and November 12/19 for PS5), with the PC version expected to arrive withi??n the same time-frame.

From sandworms to tornadoes to towering vaults, there's a lot to dig into with the Origins update, and it's all free

No Man's Sky is living its best life with the just-released Origins update. After Hello Games' Sean Murray promised this moment would mark "the beginning of something new," I came in with big expectations, but I'm still caught off-guard by the scope of what's included. The list keeps going and going.

If I had to roughly sum up Origins, I'd say that it pushes No Man's Sky within reach of many fans' wild ho??pes and dreams before the game launched. You know, back when the possibilities felt endless? Kinda like that. Update 3.0 aims to make the universe "stranger, richer, and more varied" across the board.

There are too many highlights to rattle off?, but I'll try my b?est:

  • "New life has been breathed into every planet in the universe," including giant flying beetles, sandworms, roaming synthetic creatures, and infestations. Some species will "flock together."
  • There are new planets in "most star systems" and they can "generate much more varied terrain, including mountains four times larger than anything previously possible." You might also find towering vaults with "data, treasure, and directions to long-forgotten ruins."
  • Active volcanoes, firestorms, meteor showers, tornadoes, lightning storms, and gravitational anomalies will make surface exploration more dynamic and memorable.
  • "Black market traders, piloting their ships across planets, will now sometimes land on the planetary surface."
  • "The game's interface has had a total visual overhaul, including the boot flow, all in-game menus and screens, and the Analysis Visor."
  • "A local information guide has been added to the mission log. This guide displays detailed information about your current planet or star system, as well as tracking the progress of your discoveries."
  • "Portal interference for conventional portals has been removed. Players may explore freely."

Reading through the full patch notes (and knowing Origins isn't the end of the road), I feel like No Man's Sky has secured its future for another fo??ur years. I just ca??n't see it becoming irrelevant anytime soon.

I??'m especially curious to see what Hello Games can bring to the table on P??S5 and Xbox Series X.

The latest in a line of content updates releases next week

Hello Games has announced Origins, its next content update for No Man's Sky.

Before everyone looks at the teaser art below and extrapolates endless possibilities (in true No Man's Sky tradition), the te?am has preemptively called this update "another small ??step in a longer journey." We don't know what it's about, but we know roughly when it's coming: "next week." Do you want a cape?

"We called it Origins because it is the beginning of something new, as No Man's Sky continu?es to grow and evolve," Hello Games' Sean Murray said today in a state-of-the-game blog post.

"We know there is a huge appetite in the community for No Man's Sky content, and the team has worked our socks off this year to deliver in difficult circumstances," he said, adding that they're "alwa??ys listening and focusing on improving the game that our team loves and feels so passionately about."

I wonder what we'll be saying abou??t this game when it turns ten.

Don't expect so much hype this time

Hello Games has seen the good and the bad with No Man's Sky. It has seen the dangers of unchecked expectations and the blowback of unrealized promises. It has made right on an underwhelming game, eventually redeeming No Man's Sky by turning it into something vast and detailed and excellent. It has been quite the ride, and it shouldn't be lost on anyone that a title with the potential to del??iver so many in-game stories ended up as a rollercoaster of real-world stories.

But Hello Games and its founder, Sean Murray, are about ready to?? creat??e new stories. Hopefully, this ride won't be quite so bumpy.

In an interview with Polygon, Murray reveals that the studio is in the very early phases of planning its next major project. Murray says it's "a huge, ambitious game like No Man's Sky," but emphasizes that it's not a sequel. Making sequels is antithetical to the reason Murray and Hello Games' othe??r employees went indie in the first pl??ace.

That's all the information we have for now. Murray seems gunshy about divulging too much too fast. He has a history with that sort of thing. Ultimately, he's happy with where No Man's Sky ended up, but regrets the emotional wringer that the initial launch put his employee??s through. He'll probably look to avoid that with this next game, and that might mean publicizing it less.

"A lot of [press] opportunities were put in front of us, and we were told that they were the right things to do and I look back and I’m not sure that they were super, super important to the overall outcome kind of thing," Murray says. Whatever No Man's Sky successor ends up being, Hel??lo Games likely won't promise the world this time.

The Desolation update is channeling a bit of Dead Space

It won't make your skin crawl like Event Horizon or Dead Space, but No Man's Sky is leaning into sci-fi horror with its Desolation update, and there's so much potential for dread i?n this wide-open universe.

This update – the latest in a seemingly never-ending string of updates – invi?tes you to spend the night in derelict capital ships strewn among the stars. The frigates are "rich with salvage" and perhaps not as empty as they look on the outside. Some have been overrun by creepy-crawlers. On a related note, Hello Games took extra time to make combat "faster" and "more dyn??amic." There are story crumbs, too.

"The only trace of the crew is in logs they've left behind, a mix of proce?durally generated and hand-written text that means each vessel has its own unique story for you to piece together."

I hope No Man's Sky continues branching out with these more experimental (but still totally on-brand) diversions. The universe feels so much more alive when you can stumble onto cool one-off excursions. There are "several more significant [content] releases" lined up for 2020, and the future remains brigh?t.

How bright? I'll let this tidbit do the talking: "It's been a real surprise too to see No Man's Sky sitting above the likes of Red Dead as?? the most-played game on GamePass." People are captivate?d.

Cross-platform multiplayer you love to see it

Starting June 11, No Man's Sky players can team up for space-faring shenanigans regardless of what platform they're on. In an update, Hello Games is adding cross-play s?upport on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. You'll see a little icon above other players' heads to denote what system they're playing on.

You'll also be able to form a cross-platform group of players dur??ing an active game session, and ??apart from system-level friends (like your Steam friends), there's an in-game No Man's Sky Friends list.

"Once in a group with a player, you can use the same interaction to quickly add them to your No Man's Sky Friends, allowing? you to quickly find and join their game again at another time." If they're not within immediate reach, you can also manu??ally add people to your roster with a unique Friend Code.

No Man's Sky Friends listI appreciate it whenever developers let me have game-specific friend groups.

Talk about a wild turn of events for a game that lacked meaningful multiplayer interactions at launch. That early letdown was one of ??the biggest "wait, this isn't all it's cracked up to be" moments for me.

No Man's Sky has seen so much positive change over the years, and it's not slowing down. S??ean Murray says the team is "continuing to work hard on new content updates, large and small for the future."

The developers "move??d to an entirely new networking architecture, with more flexibility for the future."

If you're inclined to give it another chance – or if you never set out to find the center of the universe in the first place – it's worth mentioning that No Man's Sky is joining Xbox Game Pass tomorrow, June 11.

Michael Collins finally gets his chance to moonwalk

It's uncharted territory for No Man's Sky next month. But, that's what Hello Games' reviled-then-revered space e??xploration game is all about: Taking the unchart?ed and charting it.

In June, No Man's Sky will join the Xbox Game Pass lineup. It's the first time No Man's Sky will be available as part of a subscription service, whether the Game Pass "Netflix for Games" type or the PS Plus "free games every month" model. It's also one of the biggest games on Xbox Game Pass in two senses: No Man's Sky has functionally-inf?inite worlds, and there are few non-first-party titles on Game Pass with more name recognition.

No Man's Sky is approaching its fourth anniversary, a memory most everyone would do well to forget. It had the rockiest of launches, and that somehow still feels like an understatement. However, that's not the relationship Xbox players have had with No Man's Sky. The Xbox port released in 2018 alongside the "Next" update. By most accounts, that's when No Man's Sky got good, and it has only gotten better since then. Come next month, the solar system is gonna open up for 10 million new space cadets.

The developers are excited about what's in store

Hello Games' stellar post-launch support of No Man's Sky will continue for the foreseeable future.

The team shared encouraging words this week in a blog post, noting that they're "working up some more ambitious additions to the [No Man's Sky] universe" and that there's "so much more planned for 2020 for us to feel excited about." When they're into it, we're into it – that passion radiates.

Founder Sean Murray also shared an image tallying up the game upd??ates so?? far.

Seeing everything laid out like this brings home how far the game has come. When you take a break from playing and don't keep tabs every week, it can be easy to forget. T?he journey isn't even over.

Hello Games could conceivably work on updating No Man's Sky for years if there's a next-gen console upgrade, and with potential for a series, the studio could live ??in this universe for a decade to come.

Joe Danger feels like a lifetime ago.
