Also this hilarious accent

I feel like a lot of first-person shooters fail to appreciate the closeness proferred by the shooty game point-of-view of choice, so it's neat to see Homefront: The Revolution embracing it with this modular weapon system. It reminds me a bit of Metro 2033,? with its constant analog immediacy. What could have been a d-pad-relegated "ammo type" button or some such actually becomes fully modele?d weapons that come apart, which is a neat touch.

Of course this is Homefront, a self-serious game with the silliest of premises, so we? can't let it slide completely. Trying to shoehorn "upgrades" into a civil rebellion narrative is weird ('we'll only give you the good guns you need to kill your opressors once you've proven yourself!") along with needing to write themselves into a scenario where, in fake, North Korea-occupied 2029, people are making crossbows and shit (North Korea's soldiers all have guns with biometrics that can only be fired by the registered owner, haha).

More important, though, is the uncanny accent of this video's narrator. We can't quite pin it down in the Destructoid office. I see hints of a British English speaker trying for an American accent (go re-watch Saw and laugh at Cary Elwes try to be American...or don't, probably, it's not great), but Chris disagrees. We all agree it sounds off, though, unless we jus??t don't have ?an ear for fake, NK-occupied 2029 American dialects..

Then again if you want to straight marvel over a truly bad accent, please cop Law and Order's Vincent D'Onofrio in that new movie about perhaps the most famous soccer player in the world, Pelé. This biopic is set in Brazil, shot in Brazil, and mostly stars Brazilians, including in the lead role, but it is all in spoken English. Which is how we get D'Onofrio trying to...speak English with a Brazilian accent as if he were speaking Brazilian Portuguese after all? It's confusing as hell theoretically (it's some Tom Cruise in Valkyrie shit) ?and worse in pract?ice. Words...are...not supposed to work that way, Vincent!!!

Upcoming Homefront: The Revolution will be available in a spe??cial edition - Goliath - which ships with a radio-controlled scale replica drone with “working lights and six-wheel suspension.”

The Goliath Edition also comes with a boxed copy of the game, an “exclusive” steel book, 32-page art book, the Expansion p??ass and the Revolutionary Spirit pack, which includes “both the Red Skull motorbike skin and Golden pistol skin for use in the single-player campaign, and instant unlocks of the Marksman Rifle, Sniper Scope and Remote Explosives for yo??ur Resistance Mode character.”

There’s also some pre-order bonuses to sweeten the deal. The Liberty Pack features two pieces of “rare” combat gear “unlocked an ready to personalise,” Liberty Body Armour and KPA Shock Trooper Helmet. Depending on where you live in the worl?d - and what retailer you use - you can also pick up a Guerrilla Care Package,?? Wing Skull Pack, and the Combat Stimulant Pack. I have no idea where or how you can get those, though - it's undisclosed at the moment.

Dambuster Studios also used the press release to announce that it “commits to extensive post-launch support with all Resistance Mode content to be released free, and major s??in?gle-played expansions planned.”

“We’re planning for a dedicated team to work on additional single-player content for at least a year after release” said Hasit Zala, game director at Dambuster Studios. “We have some exciting ideas that we hope to develop further post launch, but the overall goal is to add some surprising  new experiences to the world of Homefront that complement our 30 hour single-player campaign. All additional single-player content will be covered by the Expansion Pass.&rd??quo;

The price? That also seems to be a secret. I'll keep you posted, though, my friends. ?;

Homefront: The Revolution is out on May 17, 2016 Stateside and May ?20, 2016 in al?l other territories on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and a Mac version is also in development. 

I played the demo and liked it, albeit in a generic I-just-like-shooting-things-anyway kind of way. I wasn’t the only one though - Chris,?? too, thought it was “okay”…

Gang Solves the North Korea Situation

Homefront: The Revolution's fight for freedom will be a tough one, but not necessarily a lone?ly one. Deep Silver revealed today that the game is spo??rting a four-player cooperative mode.

Multiplayer cooperative has been dubbed "Resistance Mode," and it sounds to be fairly involved. Homefront: The Revolution&n??bsp;is shipping with 12 different missions; the game's director promises another 20 missions in the year following launch, all available to be downloaded for free.

We haven't had an opportunity to test out Resistance, but Deep Silver released this sizzle reel trailer that sort of offers a look at the new mode. For a hands-on try, registered members of the Homefront community can take place in a closed beta on Xbox One from February 11 through February 14 (sign up here).

There's more than one way to liberate Philadelphia, and one of them is with a little hel?p from your friends. Like that Beatles song. But with war instead of peace and love.

Looks like May

Well this is interesting. GameWatcher has apparently found a $1 pre-order card at Target for Homefront: Revolution, which states tha?t the game has a May 17, 2016 release date. Right now it's merely slated for a "Quarter 1/2" window, but this likely gives us a good idea of what to expect?. Deep Silver did not comment on the discovery.

I'll give it a fair shake, but I don't think there's any AAA release I'm less excited for this ye?ar than this one.

I noticed this watching Homefront: The Revolution's trailer live at gamescom: there are a ton of convenient, incredibly sturdy corrugated metal ramps, bridges, and walkways in occupied United States. It seems like 40% of the revolutionary forces are dedicated just to stripping sheet metal and building motorcycle-safe scaffolding. It ??feels like very 2007 level design??.

Pretty cool that every North Korean wears masks, though. Gotta dehumanize the ??enemy.

Guerrilla warfare shooter Homefront: The Revolution is getting an exclusive ?multiplayer beta this winter on Xbox One. Until then, watch some propaganda about our faceless Korean overlords.

In addition to this CG trailer with the sad kid being forced to say things he doesn't?? believe, Microsoft and Deep Silver showed off some gameplay footage of the shooter's single-player campaign.

Homefront: The Revolution will also feature a?n online cooperative campaign when the game arrives sometime next year on PlayStation 4, Windows PC, Mac, and X??box One.

Homefront: The Revolution, the sequel to 2011's Red Dawn: The Game, has been delayed into 20?16, according to publisher De??ep Silver. 

Deep Silver acquired the Homefront rights from Crytek in 2014. Crytek acquired the Homefront rights from a defunct THQ in 2013. The Revolution was being developed by Crytek UK -- formerly Free Radical (TimeSplitters) -- until Crytek's financial troubles (such as not paying its workers) led the company to flip Homefront and its Crytek UK studio.

Dambuster is Deep Silver's third internal development studio and of its 126 staff, "the vast majority...are veterans of Cryt??ek UK."

As to the delay, Deep Silver explained, "We are giving the team every opportunity to turn Homefront: The Revolution into a best-selling title, and have set a 2016 release date to provide them the time they need to achieve ??this," which, well, haha.
