Though terrific video game adaptations of popular movies and TV shows do exist, those seem to require the presence of lots of guns, high-octane action, a gripping mystery, or a mix of the three. You likely didn't expect a great video game adaptation of a TV series about cooking such as The Bear to be in the cards �and that's absolutely correct. Nobody did a video game adaptation of The Bear, but Michael Kandel and his pal Joe Miciak went through the trouble of modelling the entire world of the show, writing a bunch of hilar?ious voice l?ines, and voicing the characters to make a video of a fake and hilarious video game adaptation of the hit show.

The Bear is a mainstay in conversations about the best shows of the past few years. It does a great job of portraying true love for a craft, and the toll that it might take on one's personal life. The show's most m??emorable aspect, however, is remaining hilarious and even heart warming despite most of the dialogue being delivered by someone angrily screaming into their mic.

The first immediately hilarious moment of The Bear The Game is the difficulty settings menu. True to the show, Normal difficulty entails having every character screaming at every other character the entire time. "No Rush" difficulty, the option picked in the video, takes fans to a never-before-seen side of the show, a kitchen where Aphex Twin's soothing Selected Ambient Works plays in the background and everyone ?is nice the entire time.

The Bear's fake video game has guns, too

This is a game, though, and one that seems to be aiming at greatness, so guns naturally show up at some point. I'm still only halfway into season 3 of ?the show, but I risk saying that the part of the game where Chicagoan Dogs break into the kitchen and you have to shoot them to death is the game just taking some artistic liberty.

You thought I was kidding, didn't you? Still, don't get fooled into thinking the game is only about killing dogs. There are many other hilarious ref??erences to the show that I won't spoil but, all in all, the most surreal part remains how everyone is just so goddamn nice and reassuring the entire time.

While I didn't like the idea of killing dogs even before The Last Of Us Part 2 taught me that it was wrong, I'd really like to get a chance to play The Bear on No Rush mode. That's not even because of my love for the show and the art of cooking in general �it's because this looks like a version of Overcooked that I'd actually enjoy playing.

I remember when Disneys used to be called "movies"

Bob Iger, CEO of Disney and aspiring owner of everything imaginable, confirmed that Disney's long talked-about streaming service will be called Disney+, or Disney Plus, or what have you. Previously, a report misunder??stood ??the name of the service to be Disney Play, but it looks like the House of Mouse is taking ??a different naming convention from G??oogle.

Expect to see newer Disney, Star Wars, and Marvel Studios films start to pop up on Disney+ rather than Netflix. Additionally, the acquisition of 21st Century Fox will give Disney a controlling stake in Hulu—Iger has promised that Disney+ and Hulu will still be able to coexist, with Hulu being a home for "general entertainment"?? and Disney+ for "fami??ly fare."

So let's try to summarize all of the "family fare" projects that we know of t?hat are coming to ??????????????????????????Disney+. Take a deep breath, and:

Honestly, just looking at that list is exhausting. After writing numerous stories about streaming services, I ha?ve almost completely run out of things to say about them. As many have pointed out, all of these services are splitting the market, somehow turning streaming into a worse alternative to cable TV.

Disney+ is still due to launch in late 2019. Better star?t saving your money now, lest you incur the wrath of a cartoon mouse.

The romanticism of running away is not real

While every kid at one point may dream of running away from their parents, "the idea of running away, in reality, is not a romantic thing at all," says Marvel Television president and Runaways executive producer Jeph Loeb. At a roundtable interview with the creative players of Marvel's Runaways, the cast members and execu??tive producers described the ?characters' hardships of growing up in their extraordinary circumstances.

That isn't to say that these Runaways haven't grown during the course of the Hulu sho??w's first season&mda??sh;Gregg Sulkin, who plays the show's "jock" and tech genius Chase Stein, discussed his dual identity in season one, and how he's evolved from that in the second season. Despite familial pressure, Chase never really felt like a jock, says Sulkin: "It's relatable to society today where we're encouraged to put on a facade even though that might not be true to who we are." When asked if Chase will have any cool new gadgets, Sulkin only offered: "Um, Fistigons are awesome. There may be a couple of tweaks [to them]."

Next, we sat with Ariela Barer, who portrays Gert Yorkes, perhaps one of the most socially and politically-minded we've seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Gert is a ??character who was loudly vocal about her feminist ideals in the first season, even gaining a small following of people wearing modified Hillary Clinton 2016 shirts to say "I'm With Gert." Still, Gert begins to be self-aware of her socio-economic status as she witnesses those who aren't as privileged firsthand. In season 2, Barer says, Gert serves as the "moral compass" of the group through this experience. Barer also discussed Gert's feminism, and how it compared to the character's depiction in the comics: "I think the experience of being a feminist in 2018 is a very different experience from being a feminist in 2002, and it definitely involves more anxiety and fear than it did in the past; so that's a modernization of feminism that Gert is bringing."

I couldn't resist asking Virginia Gardner (Karolina Dean) some of the heavier questions of the day—with a lack of queer representation in the MCU, how did Gardner and actress Lyrica Okano (Nico Minoru) handle the first queer relationship between two superheroes in the MCU? The actresses and writers understood their responsibility and essentially treated it the same way as any other relationship. "I wasn't nervous about that as much as I was excited to be able to provide representation on? a superhero show, [other ones] having not done enough." With the show's fictional Church of Gibborim being so similar to Scientology, I was curious to ask Gardner if she had conducted any research about real-life cults. "I definitely had done some research on that, and also tried to get into the headspace of someone who is so enthralled in that," she offered, saying that season 2 will explore the "depth of how dark that church actually is."

Molly Hernandez (Allegra Acosta) is the youngest of the Runaways group and as a result, was probably the least-trusted one due to her perceived ??naivete in a "boy who cried wolf" way. Acosta quickly agreed with this metaphor, but enthu?siastically told us that things are certainly different in season 2. As she tells us, "Molly naturally has something in her where she knows her way around, she knows how to handle this stuff on her own, she's ready to take on this superhero role. [The other Runaways] don't know it yet, but throughout the [second] season, you can see how Molly leads the group in certain areas; when they realize that she's gone, they have no idea what to do." She's the "glue" of the group, inspiring the others with her positivity, while she herself "grows up mentally and physically" through the new season.

Alex Wilder (Rhenzy Feliz) may be ??the only Runaway without a special power or ability, but that hasn't stopped him from contributing. Feliz was hesitant to characterize Alex as the leader of the group, pointing at his head and instead emphasizing that Alex was trying to figure out how to use his brain to make the necessary contributions for his friends. I asked if Alex expresses any jealousy in season 2 as he watches his friends develop his powers, to which Feliz responded: "He knows how to help using his brain and making decisions and making the str??ategy behind it all." But he isn't too much of a leader in season 2. "I feel like if anyone become a leader, it would be Nico. ... Especially in the beginning, [the other characters] kind of put him down a bit." Poor, powerless Alex still has a ways to go.

Co-creator Stephanie Savage has had her hands in the development of The O.C. and Gossip Girl, but according to Jeph Loeb, she wasn't too big a fan of comic books as co-creator Josh Schwartz (who was not present at NYCC). Instead, Savage relished at the opportunity to write more stories about youths. Combining superhero fiction and teen drama wasn't a tough balance, but rather a "fun balance." "Josh and I," Savage told us, "love to write for young characters, for teenagers who really feel like the stakes of their experiences are life and death, and in this case [in Runaways], they really were, so that was fun and refreshing." Marvel Television was internally called "The O.C. of the Marvel un?iverse" according to Loeb, with the company being lucky enough to actually score the people behind that show.

And of course, I couldn't resist asking Jeph Loeb about potential references to the larger MCU in Runaways season 2, citing Cloak & Dagger and Luke Cage season 2 as shows that had some sort of symbiosis. But Loeb has heard all of this before: "You guys are always trying to get me in trouble," he com?ically griped. Without ?answering one way or the other, Loeb explained that kids in Los Angeles wouldn't be concerned with the goings-on in other parts of the world. "We aren't an Easter egg factory," he said, a phrase he later echoed in the panel later that day.

Tangential questions about easter eggs aside, the conversations largely focused on character growth—these are young charac?ters still in the process of growing up, but they begin season 2 at radically different headspaces as they did when the show first began. A common theme was that each character has grown more comfortable with the role they have carved out for themselves—which is es??sential, now out there in a less safe and crueler world, without their usual access to resources, money, and privileges.

What happens when the Runaways actually run away?

When describing her character from Runaways, Allegra Acosta said that Molly Hernandez, her super strength-powered young girl is getting "bigger," "louder," with "more powers," and most importantly, "going to war." You could say the same for all of the teen characters in Hulu's Marvel teen drama for its second season. At the New York Comic-Con panel for the show, co-creator Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl, The O.C.) and all cast members were pr??esent to describe the changes of all of their respective characters.

Marvel Television president, executive producer, and guy-who-acts-likes-he's-everyone's-dad Jeph Loeb moderated the relatively short panel, going through each cast member. Gregg Sulkin said that his character Chase Stein was finally "becoming a man," and has a"?beautif??ul relationship" with Gert Yorkes (Ariela Barer). Barer delved into the mental illness and anxiety disorder of her character, and despite her status as a "social justice warrior," her status as a runaway is giving her first-hand experience of poverty and social injustice for the first time in her life.

Virginia Gardner discussed her character Karolina Dean's newfound confidence with her light-based power, and Lyrica Okano mentioned that her character, Nico Minoru, is the "reluctant leader" of the? Runaways. Karolina and Nico have begun a relationship, possibly to the jealousy of Alex Wilder (Rhenzy Feliz). When asked about his character development, Feliz instead suggested they show a clip. After minutes of obvious teasing, it soon became obvious that all attending the panel would have a look at the second season's first episode.

The first season ended with a fairly average episode, with the Runaways finally being true to their name and running away—albeit very abruptly in the last minutes of a relatively uneventful episode. Without spoiling too much, the premiere episode reminds us of the discord not only between the R?unaways but their parents they have run away from, who form the organization The Pride.

There are a lot of parallels between the two factions of the Runaways and the Pride—both are now generally united in their goals (the Runaways to take down their parents, the Pride to catch their children), and despite all of the machinations, in-fighting, and backstabbing?? between all of the characters in season one, they pledge to become a united front. But as everyone has their own motivations, a lack of scheming is not guaranteed, and distrust still remains.

The panel ended with a quick look at what the rest of the season has to offer, with quick revealing images and an appearance by the comic book character of Topher (Jan Luis Castellanos), a "consummate survivor" who "knows how to read the ro??om and win fri?ends."

This teaser was gayer than all of the MCU movies combined

The first season of Marvel's Runaways ended on a significant note, as the main characters of the Hulu series, uh, actually ran away. This teen-focused show in the mold of Riverdale is returning for a second?? season, with the titular Runaways on the run from their parents after discovering their nefarious criminal activities.

Now that the?se superpowered characters are more of a cohesive unit, the show can focus now on the group trying to uncover more secrets, all while dealing with their own personal dramas. "We are not superheroes," they declare, but they continue to refine and hone their abilities. As one can expect from the genre, there will be plenty of angsty romantic subplots in between, including the budding relationship of Nico and Karolina, probably the first significant queer pairing in ??the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

For the unfamiliar, the cast includes Lyrica Okano as Nico Minoru, a goth girl who has a magical staff, Vir??ginia Gardner as Karolina Dean, who has the ability of glowing and shooting beams of light (not to mention her parents are basically Scientologists), Ariela Barer as Gert Yorkes, a feminist whose superpower is owning a goddamn raptor, Gregg Sulkin as Chase Stein, a jock who wields gadgets and weapons of his own creation, and Allegra Acosta as Molly Hernandez, a child with superstrength. They are all led by Rhenzy Feliz as Alex Wilder, a smart dude who doesn't have abilities?? but tries really hard. He had a gun at one point if that counts as a superpower.

Adapted from Marvel comics, this show was developed by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who collaborated on The OC and Gossip Girl. As I myself couldn't give? a darn about either of those shows but is a huge fan of the MCU, I found the first season of this show fun to watch with a friend of mine who dislikes Marvel yet loves those very teen dramas. Truly, it was the most ambitious crossover in history.

All 13 episodes of Marvel's Runaways season 2 will stream on Hulu on December 21.

No word if Sarah Huckabee Sanders will appear

In a day of celebration for Hulu, the streaming service announced that it surpassed 20 million U.S. subscribers and gave fans more to look forward to by confirming The Handmaid's Tale third season. If that wasn't enough, Hulu also announced a partnership with DreamWorks Animation, creator of 2018 Academy Award nominee The Boss Baby. 

Hulu's devotion to original content is starting to pay off, and a slew of upcoming projects could help bring in additional users. Bringing back The Handmaid's Tale was all but certain given its success and acclaim, and now with DreamWorks Animation in the picture, Hulu will h?ave exclusive rights to upcoming DWA films, as well as theatrical releases kicking in next year. 

But that's not all! Hulu also has a partnership with Blumhouse Television for a series called Into the Dark. This horror series will be released the first Friday of every month in standalone episodes. Think of it as Hulu's answer to Netflix's Black Mirror. The first episode is? set to premiere on October 5th and will follow the story of an egotistical hitman who may be too ?involved in the selfie culture many are so accustomed to. 

Hulu's been in existence for just over a decade and with stiff competition, they've been able to create their own niche and generate customer growth. What a company can offer overwhelmed consumers is critical in keeping a business alive and well. Hulu's early decision to team up with numerous networks to stream shows the day after they air was something the other services couldn't offer, and Hulu has been able--through smart trial and error--to find a golden ticket with The Handmaid's Tale. Teaming up with the likes of DFA and Blumhouse open new doors for what they can create with the goal to continue t????heir growth trend.

We just have to wait until 2020

Well, I was wrong. Back in May, we heard that Animaniacs was looking to make a comeback, with both Amblin Television and Warner Bros. Animation on board for its revival. I was sure they would pick Netflix, but it looks like Animaniacs? is being resurrected on Hulu, and with two new seasons to boot.

This news comes after the Peabody Award-winning show has been off the air for two decades. And new episodes aren't the only thing coming to Hulu either; the streamer has acquired the rights to stream Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, Tiny Toon Adventures, and Pinky, Elmyra and the Brain in thei??r entirety. Maybe we'll se??e more Warner Bros. programs on Hulu in the near future.

Unfortunately, there is going to be a wait. It seems that Warner Bros. Animation is shooting for a 2020 release date, so we won't be seeing any new material until then. However, the complete libraries of Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, Tiny Toon Adventures, and Pinky, Elmyra and the Brain are available to stream now if you need your fix.

Everything seems to be in place for a big com?eback. Steven Spielberg is?? executive producing, and with many Warner Bros. cartoons coming to Hulu, there must be a lot of faith in this deal. Still, until Rob Paulsen and Jess Harnell are confirmed to be returning to their roles, I'm going to temper my excitement.

Hulu wants a hit, man

Hitman's recent resurgence must've gained some notoriety, and I suppose its time as a film series is done, so now it's getting adapted into a Hulu exclusive TV series. According to Deadline, FOX and Hulu have tapped the John Wick series creator and writer Derek Kolstad to write the pilot episode with the hop?e?s it'll become a major series for the subscription service. 

I'm a little disappointed there won't be a proper follow up to Hitman: Agent 47, but seeing as how I'm one of the few who enjoyed it steering into complete video game nonsense, I totally understand. John Wick is a great framework to pull a series li?k??e this from, but without Chad Stahelski at the helm I'm cautiously optimistic as to what the end result will be.

Goodbye free time

Nintendo launched the Switch back in March without a single third-party streaming app. While I was plenty happy to have the hybrid console be a dedicated gaming machine, more than a few people were a little up??set that they couldn't stream Netflix or Hulu to the device. Whil??e the movie giant is still MIA, at least Hulu is now available to use on the go, at home, in the bathroom, on a boat, with a goat, on a moat...

You'll be able to find the app when the eShop updates (which is typically 12 PM EST). After that, I guess my free time will go out the window. I've been re-watching a lot of South Park and Hulu has all of the old seasons remastered in HD, uncensored and widescreen. It is super fuckin sweet??, you guys!

It sounds like that show based on Myst is one step closer to happening.

Legendary Television has the rights already, with Evan Daugherty (Divergent) writing and Matt Tolmach (The Amazing Spider-Man) producing. According to Deadline, streaming site Hulu has commissioned a script for ??the show that, if approved, will res??ult in a series order.

Talk of Myst in the Destructoid office led to an odd realization: I first played the revered (and also reviled) adventure game on my uncle's PC and, no joke, Kyle did the same. "He couldn't figure it out and made me play it for like two hours because he knew I was good at Mario."

Entertainment apps set free from Xbox Live Gold

Microsoft is coming up on the one-year anniversary of its Games with Gold program in which Xbox Live Gold subscribers can download two free games per month on Xbox 360 to own even if their membership lapses. In June, there will be three freebies: Dark Souls, Charlie Murder, and Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition. Not a bad selection!

More interestingly, the company is talking about its plans for Xbox One. Taking a cue from PlayStation Plus (they listened!), on Xbox One, the program will require an active Xbox Live Gold subscription in order to continue playing any free games you've downloaded. The first featured titles will be Max: The Curse of Brotherhood and Halo: Spartan Assault in June.

And, finally, entertainment apps including Netflix and Hulu Plus are being set free in -- you guessed it -- June and will no longer require Gold on Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Between this and the Kinectless Xbox One announcement, it's been a good day for Xbox. Progress.

It's staggering this hasn't been done already

[Update: Microsoft has confirmed that entertainment apps are being set free.]

As much as I've gotten used to the idea that Xbox Live Gold is a requirement for certain entertainment apps, that's not to say Microsoft shouldn't change its policy, moving app?s like Netflix and Hulu out from behind the paywall. It's never too late to stop charging us on top of what we're already paying for these month?ly services, and change might just be coming.

Ars Technica is reporting that multiple sources within Microsoft have been briefed on plans to strip the Xbox Live Gold requirement for streaming media services like Hulu and Netflix. It also sounds as if Microsoft will be putting other content/services behind the paywall, though it's unclear if this will be new stuf??f or existing content that's c?urrently free to all users.

I nominate the upcoming original programming. Go? ahead and require Gold for that instead, Microsoft. And while we're on the subject, maybe waive the fee for free-to-play games too.

iOS or Android

As of this week you can update your Hulu app on iOS or Android and use it to ?control the action on PS3, PS4, or Xbox One. It feels weird that it would take years to get to this point, but here we are.

I've always said the age of convergence is a wonderful thing. Although a lot of us grew up?? with multiple devices completely isolated from each other, it's nice to see so many interlocking platforms play nice these days.

Coming to Hulu Plus devices soon

Hulu, one of the greatest services ever invented, has just introduced a videogames hub on their website, at Hulu.com/videogames. Just in time for the holiday game rush, you can now go there to view trailers, gameplay videos and even? reviews. It will also serve as a release date tracker, complete with dates and platforms.

It's available on PC now, and will be coming to H??ulu Plus enable devices over ??the next few months.

Sneaky Nintendo

[Update: At least the Netflix app will be ready ?in time for launch, it just won't be a part of T?Vii.]

A massive press release this morning from Nintendo detailed this weekend's Wii U launch and ran down a??ll of the system's features. At first glance it was a huge list of things that you and I already know. Closer inspection found one item that Nintendo quietly stuck in the description of the system's Nintendo TVii service:

In December, Nintendo will activate this unique application that will transform how people find, watch and engage with TV shows, movies and sp??orts... 

Similarly, the video on demand apps like Hulu Plus, Netflix,?? and Amazon VOD will be available in "the coming weeks," which w?e'll take as missing launch.

It looks like Nintendo didn't ha?ve all their stuff together for launch. That's fine, I guess. More time for games!
