The open-world action-adventure InFamous made a thunderous debut during the PlayStation 3 era. Since then, the series has expanded into multiple titles, introducing a mix of new and familiar characters. To celebrate the franchise, we'll guide you through all the InFamous games in their release order.

InFamous (2009)

Cole Macgrath in InFamous

The electrifying InFamous series began with the tales of Cole MacGrath, an ordinary man who unex?pectedly inherits Electrokinesis powers. He soon faces t?he harsh realities of this newfound ability when it causes a catastrophic explosion in the great Empire City.

As a player, the power to shape the narrative of InFamous is in your hands. How will you wield this electrical-based powe??r? Will you use it for good, or will you succumb to the dark side? Every decision, no matter how small, can lead to significant consequences, both for Cole and the ?citizens of Empire City. The journey is entirely yours to shape, and you might just uncover some new powers along the way.

InFamous 2 (2011)

Cole returns once more in the sequel, InFamous 2. This t??ime, he's no rookie when it comes to his abilities, becoming the electrical superhero (or villain?) he was born to be. Decisions are still prominent in this narrative, along with some new enemies to tackle.

The game's major antagonist, The Beast, threatens to annihilate the world, and you must choose which side you're on: good or evil. Fortunately, you won't have to go at it alone. You'll be aided by two new allies, each with their unique skills and abilities that can help you in your quest. Take advantage of their skills and uncover the multiple endings of InFamous 2.

InFamous: Festival of Blood (2011)

InFamous: Festival of Blood is a stand-alone entry that takes a different turn from its predecessors. In this game,?? Cole has transformed into a vampire??, mixing the abilities of the undead with his electrical powers. He only has eight hours to save his soul and the city of New Marias from the vampire takeover.

Festival of Blood should definitely be on your radar if you're looking for a horror take on the InFamous series. Everything about it just screams ??terror, from its darkly-themed environment to its hordes of demonic creatures??.

InFamous: Second Son (2014)

Cole MacGrath takes the back seat in InFamous: Second Son as the new character, Delsin Rowe, enters the picture. Society has now tu?rned against the superhumans, establishing the notorious Department of Unified Protection to bring them down. As a fellow superhuman, Delsin aims to thwart the D.U.P. plans and save everyone he loves in the heart of Seattle.

Like MacGrath, Rowe must make some harsh ??decisions. These choices will determine the fate of th??e city and unearth the mysterious truth behind his powers. You'll also come upon various distinct abilities, giving you the freedom to pick the one that most suits your style.

InFamous: First Light (2014)

Abigail "Fetch" Walker takes the stage in InFamous: First Light, where we learn about her origins before Second Son. Her uni??que Neon abilities give her the power of light, igniting her attacks and quickening her movements. The story begins during her time in prison after being locked up for her?? superhuman skills.

Once Abigail fights her way out of the cell, she must surviv?e through the frosty Curdan Cay's harsh terrains. She now has a new mission to seek revenge on those who got her in prison in the first place.

Currently, First Light is the last entry in the InFamous series. There have always been some rumors regarding another title, but Sucker Punch has since shifted its focus to its hit game, Ghost of Tsushima. Hopefully, one day, we'll get a new story for InFamous to continue the journey that Cole first started.

Cole's Legacy is free to claim

As time goes on, it's shockingly easy for DLC to get lost in the cracks, even for a series as well-known as inFAMOUS. While Sucker Punch Productions recently went on record to say that the team?? isn't working on a new inFAMOUS (or Sly Cooper) game right now, there is a bit of news: some DLC for inFAMOUS Second Son popped up on the PlayStation Store.

If you were browsing the storefront today to see what's new, this "July 20" release would've been a head-turner but the DLC in question, Cole's Legacy, is not new for inFAMOUS Second Son. These missions were? origi?nally a part of the limited edition.

In a move that other studios should try and follow, Sucker Punch has released Cole's Legacy for free in "most regions, except those that require a small fee due to local restrictions," so you can claim the DLC right now on the PlayStation Store. Might as well!

//youtu.be/T4XlJrbY3ow

Play it for the jacket, if anything

It's worth going through if you have a deep personal history with inFAMOUS and inFAMOUS 2; Zeke's back, kinda, but the scope is admittedly limited. The main thing: if you complete Cole's Legacy, you'll be able to dress up Second Son star Delsin with Cole's jacket.

On Twitter, Sucker Punch also confirmed that it hopes to separately release Fetch's D.U.P. outfit a former pre-order bonus for inFAMOUS First Light. And maintenance on the inFAMOUS 2 UGC (user-generated content) servers has wrapped up, as promised.

Games often tie outfits or smaller pieces of content to pre-orders, first-wave "day one" editions, and collector's sets. It can b??e a way to incentivize early adopti??on without going overboard. The problem is, some of this stuff is never offered again, and it becomes lost to time. In cases like this, it's never too late to make it right fans will be thankful.

They'd also?? ap??preciate remasters of the PS3 games. Just saying.

Nothing Sly going on here

Today, Sucker Punch Productions published a message about its 25 years of games. In the process, it also confirms that no, it's not working on a new inFAMOUS or Sly Cooper game.

Sucker Punch says in its message that as its games continue to grow, they require the full atten?tion of the studio. And being that it's currently focusing on one project, the s??tudio says it's not working on any other one of its properties.

"As our games continue to grow in scale and complexity, they require the full attention of our studio. With our focus on our current project, we have no plans to revisit inFAMOUS or Sly Cooper right now, and no other studio is currently working on projects related to those franchises either. These characters are very special and near and dear to our hearts, so while we’d never say never to re-opening those doors down the road, for now there are no inFAMOUS or Sly Cooper games in development."

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlNfJvFnzc8

An inFAMOUS legacy

That pretty much settles that. Sucker Punch does go on to confirm its performing maintenance on the inFAMOUS 2 UGC servers, to keep them running a bit longer. They will eventually be sunset, but Sucker Punch says it wants to keep them running "for as long as possible" for players who still want to dip in. The Cole's Legacy DLC for inFAMOUS Second Son will also be put up on the Pl??ayStation Store i?n all territories soon.

It's a bit of a strange announcement, though there have been rumors in the past of a return to Sly Cooper revival and the like. This just seems like Sucker Punch getting out ahead of that, as it works on something it says is unrelated to inFAMOUS or Sly Cooper. Sorry to all the fans of thieving animals.

Technically promoted from our Community Blogs

[It's that wonderful time of the year again where I get to stroke my own ego and promote my own work. Sure, I could just post it to the Front Page and cut out all of the complications, but where's the fun in that? After reading this, I'm pretty sure you'll have a much better idea of where I'm coming from. If you give me even the slightest bit of power, I'm going to find some way to abuse it. I just can't help myself.

This month's Bloggers Wanted may be coming to a close, but that's no reason to stop writing blogs! Head on over to the Cblogs, and throw some damn thoughts together. If we like what you write, you might even see your own words here next time! - Kevin]

Freedom is such a delicate thing. I’m simultaneously terrified and enamored with the concept. That’s why I love it when video games give me the option to be a complete dick. The systems they implement are often stifled to the point of two basic paths, but there’s something so damn liberating about being able to throw out some virtual bad karma, almost completely free of conseque?nces.

Sure, I’m always a predictable square during my first playthrough. That second playthrough, however, I sincerely don’t give a fuck anymore. I’ve seen everything the “good” side has to offer, and I want more. I want the world to burn.

The inFamous series is absolutely ripe for the picking. I spent so much effort saving those? annoying, digital ragdolls (aka everyday citizens) during the initial experience that it was only a matter of time before I completely stopped caring about their well-being ??in subsequent runs. As a matter of fact, I’d often just kill them myself.  Slowly but surely, I’d creep over to the dark side, and the payoff was well worth it. These games practically beg you to be a total asshole.

All of the best powers are locked into the villain route, and you no longer have to worry about the petty inconveniences associated with trying to be a “hero.” Heroes are chu?mps, and everyone knows it. What’s in it for me? I’ve been there and done that. It was fun at first, but that whole shtick doesn’t have much replay value. Being a jerk never gets old.

Then, of course, there’s the Mass Effect series. While it makes you feel all righteous and mighty pursuing the paragon route, it’s so much more hilarious to tell everyone to fuck off as a rogue. There’s no feeling in this world quite like when one of the characters pours their heart out ??to you, and you just show a complete lack of respect to them in return. It warmed my jaded, bitter heart every single time.

Later on, after carefully plotting the course for my desired in-game romance (for over twenty hours at that), I’d make a point of cheating on them with other NPCs. Sure, the other lady may be a goofy-looking, alien chick with a voice resembling a Russian, bootleg Darth Vader’s, but I was going to bone her if it killed me. Rest assured, these scenes were about as “sexy&??rdquo; as watching a stray dog dry hump an old, curbside-abandoned couch. Still, I couldn’t help myself.

It was totally worth it too. Seeing their ridged, lifeless bodies soullessly move up and down each other was a comedic highlight of my early gaming years. Everything looked so damn bad, and I felt so wrong for cheating on ??my virtual significant other, but it felt so fucking right as I threw myself into a bottomless pit of maniacal laughter.

There are games that simply offer you a sandbox too, with the freedom to do as you will. In Breath of the Wild, I’d often find myself trying to set things on fire. Why? Because I could. Unfortunately for my horse, who I graciously named Dick Snot, that meant they were going to spend a whole lo?t of time in fire pits and getting hit with torches. It was important for me to abuse them both emotionally and physically during our time together. We don’t all get to be the hero of Hyrule.

I've never exactly been what one would ??refer to as a “role model” in the waking world, but video games have offered me the chance to cut loose and stop caring altogether, in an isolated en??vironment with no real repercussions. It’s downright therapeutic.

The next time you’re playing a game, and they give you the option, be a bastard??. Live a little. We spend so much of our lives afraid of doin??g the “wrong” thing that it’s positively energizing when you finally find the courage to just stop giving a shit.

The pair popped up in a PS Plus ad

Games destined for PlayStation Plus sometimes make themselves known ahead of schedule, whether it's through a tweet, a video, or in this case, a Facebook advertisement. As spotted by HotUKDeals, it appears as if inFamous: Second Son and Child of Light are on the docket for September.

These certainly seem like ga?mes that'd make the rounds for PS Plus subscribers.

Second Son was my first real attempt at playing the series (despite getting an inFamous pack-in with my late-to-the-party PS3 console purchase), and while I never finished it, I liked zipping around Seattle. Seattle's good. As for Child of Light, never got around to it! Here's my chance.

Good, this game needs more love

It's been a year since inFamous: Second Son's release on the PlayStation 4, and to this day, it's one of my favorite games on the platform. Sony is celebrating its one-year anniversary with a few little tidbits, like ringt??ones, cover art, and phone wallpapers.

In more game-related news, inFamous: First Light will be 50% off from March 27 to March 30, just in case you missed it when it was on PlayStation Plus. Both of them are worth picking up in my opinion, and definitely needed a lot more love at release. I'??m eager to see what Sucker Punch has cooking next.

Sony has tipped its hand a tad, revealing some of the game?s PlayStation 4 owners can expect out of PlayStation Plus in the months ahead.

In December, subscribers can get their fists on superhero fighter Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition and Wild West shooter Secret Ponchos, whereas in January Sony will be treating folks to both inFamous: First Light and heavenly puzzler The Swapper.

And then there's Driveclub, which is still having all sorts of issues. Sony apologizes for the wait, but remains steadfast in its commitment to release the PS Plus version "when it’s ready."

You go, Fetch!

It's five months later, and inFamous: Second Son is still one of my favorite games of the year. As a massive improvement in just about every facet of the franchise, I enjoyed see?in??g how Delsin's story played out, and as I slowly made my way towards a 100% completion rate, I wanted more.

Well, we're getting just that with inFamous: First Light, a standalone DLC story not unlike Festival of Blood,? starring Fetch -- the neon heroine from the original??.

inFamous: First Light (PS4)
Developer: Sucker Punch Productions
Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment
Release: August 26, 2014
MSRP: $14.99

To be clear, First Light is a completely standalone game, and you don't need access to Second Son to play (although it does augment it, which I'll explain later). As an added bonus, the story takes place before the events of Second Son, and also recaps the entire Conduit situation if you've never played an inFamous game before. First Light is a miniature campaign involving Fetch, a likable and sympathetic character who has basically been dealt a bad lot since?? birth.

Along with her brother Brent, Fetch gets mixed in with some gang-related dealings, mostly ??from her brother's association with a shady drug dealer. Brent spends most of the time in distress, and Fetch spends most of the DLC on the warpath, forging tenuous relationships that don't always work out. It's interesting to see Fetch torn back and forth, being constantly used for so??meone else's own devices, and the tragic angle works.

Despite her interesting characterization though, the story is straightforward and predictable. That's not to say that it's bad however, as I was still interested in seeing what happened and how each event unfolded, even if I had some idea of the conclusion based on Second Son. Mission-wise objectives are very similar to Second Son, in that they vary significantly -- one minute you'll be escaping from the authorities, and the next, you're hunting down a target, and so on. Almost every mission feels different, e????ven if the objectives aren't wildly different than most open world games.

Of course, Second Son's rock-solid gameplay foundation is where the fun really lies. Instead of having access to all four major powers like Delsin, Fetch only gets to use neon-themed abilities -- but thankfully they're super-charged and a ton? of fun on their own. She has an unlimited run power (that runs up walls and through the air), a stasis field, standard melee attacks, a heavy projectile, and an ultimate ability.

Your mileage may vary depending on your prior use of neon powers in Second Son, but Fetch's quips and pure focus on the style feels unique in its own right. The story will last you around five hours ??or so, but there's about double that in ter??ms of extra content.

Although the map is contained to just one (giant) zone, you'll have plenty of Lumens to collect, races to engage in, graffiti spots to tag, and drones to seek and destroy. Just like in Second Son, I was immediately addicted to finding skill-buffing Lumens, and spent my first two hours of the game hunting them all down. The way th??e map design gels with the powers is pretty incredible, and very addicting.

First Light also has a horde-style mode in tow, which gradually unlocks as you complete the story. There's three arenas in all, with a mixture of objectives like "save the hostages," and "kill everything." The best part is that you can use either Fetch or Delsin (provided that you own Second Son), who can tap into both good and evil powers as well as the full spectrum of abilities from the story. The point system is interesting enough too (it jumps out at you and is very arcade-like), and leaderboards add? to its allure.

Full stop, inFamous: First Light is more Second Son, which is a good thing. Although I wasn't nearly as invested in Fetch as I was with Delsin's story, this is a great way for fans to return to the super-powered world of Seattle, and an even better way fo??r newcomers to ??get a taste of the series.

The power of neon!

Jack of all trades, master of none. Sure Delson from Infamous: Second Son has the ability to suck up other people's powers for his own, which is pretty cool in its own right.?? But those that just have one specific power to manage have way more control over their g?ifts.

Case in point, Fetch is just a badass. I loved speeding through the city non-stop. That??'s right, you're not metered down here -- you have unlimited use of your dash abili??ty. Here other power sets are pretty cool too, but largely resemble Delsin's. Projectiles, hover jump, super attacks -- it's all there, but you know, all neon-y.

The core of the story follows Fetch when she gets by the anti-Conduit department, and goes up until the point Delsin and Fetch meet. So you're getting about five hours worth of content with this First Light standalone DLC. You'll only be exploring the first whole island of Infamous' Seattle.

On top of the story is a wave-based horde mode where you can compete for the highest score on leaderboards. And if you own Second Son you can use Delsin in this horde mode.

If you liked Second Son and don't think $14.99 is a whole lot, than you won't go wrong with First Light.

inFamous: First Light

At Sony's PlayStation press conference, we found out that one of the PS4's biggest exclusives is getting some downloadable content. Sucker Punch is working on DLC for inFamous: Second Son.

The interesting thing about this add-on, which is called inFamous: First Light, is that it's also a standalone piece for anyone that doesn't own the full game. However, those that already have Second Son&nb??sp;get some additional perks/content that weren't elaborated upon.

We don't know anything else yet, such as what sort of narrative this follows. Luckily, we won't have to wait too long to find out. First Light sees the light of day sometime in August.

There's already enough variety as is

Infamous: Second Son is ending its Paper Trail DLC run this week, and before people finish the final chapter and get disappointed, developer Sucker Punch has confirmed t?hat there is no new "Paper Power" that's un??locked as a result.

You will, however, unlock Celia's mask and four custom jacket outfits if you complete all six episodes, which is something. All in all, a new power would be great for roaming the world weeks down the line, but I'm pretty satisfied with Second Son overall.

And we need a new Pokemon Snap, too

inFamous: Second Son saw an almost benign update with Photo Mode last week (hashtag many filters). With it, you're photografree to turn off the HUD, adjust depth of field, change time of day, and, well, take pictures. Pictures of stunning digital vistas and creepy monster teens. It's like you're a member of the Ansel Adams Fam??ily.

It's in some ways an extension of inFamous 2's user-generated missions, which stemmed from Sony going hard on the "Play, Create, Share" campaign after the success of games like LittleBigPlanet. It's also a natural extension of a thing a lot of games already had -- level editors -- now even more useful with the abili??ty to share le??vels with everyone.

And it's a great idea, equal parts a smart business decision and a fun, artistic tool for letting you make screenshots that second stun

[screenshot via NeoGAF's emalord]

Hopefully you have seen Dead End Thrills. It makes games sing. Even not so great games. More often than you might think, publishers don't capture great screenshots, which feels like a waste of years of slaving over a hot modelling computer. Dead End Thrills is all about artistic shots. And that's what Second Son's Photo Mode is about. Just look at the Twitter hashtag. Or this NeoGAF thread.

Of course, Photo Mode might also exist for the same reason the Share button exists: virality and marketing. Sucker Punch has unleashed an artistic tool that is fun to use, but also gets people tweeting and sharing pictures of its game, keeping it in the public consciousness fo??r longer and likely encouraging people to buy it.

It's advertising, apersure, but it's advertising I can get behind. Let people be creative and show off c?ool things. On? the other hand, I think we can f-stop with auto-tweeting high scores or anything from Raptr ever.

[screenshot]

When Super Smash Bros. Melee was my il pane quotidiano, we always came up with meta games within the confines of a match. That's part of Melee's fun: user-generated gameplay. You could choose item sets and their frequency, completely changing matches. Provided you weren't always a stodgy khaki wearer and only played it as an item-less competitive fighter. It even offered mode?s lik?e giant melee, lightning melee, and single-button.

Then of course there are self-imposed changes. Playing DK Island: Kongo Jungle and fighting for supremacy of the rock that juts out on the lower right. Playing baseball with Ness by throwing Kirbys and Jigglypuffs. It's abou?t using tools to make your own fun.

And even without a special Photo Mode enhancement suite, one of the meta games we did in Melee was randomly pause the game within matches and cycle between characters, hoping we'd caught a hilarious face or a cool Rocky III freeze-frame punch. And yeah, Melee is like 15 years old so, yes, there were some intention??al Yoshi plays to catch him pooping people out in eggs or licking butts??.

[screenshot]

Second Son's Photo Mode was a great move by Sucker Punch. It conceivably helps its game do better with something that is fun for us and yields cool results. Maybe I'll get tired of Second Son screenshots, but I haven't yet.

Seriously, Nintendo. Make another god damn Pokemon Snap. Yes, this is a total rider of an issue, but we're talking about videogame photography and Pokemon Snap is great! Despite releasing a console with pointer controls, Nintendo couldn't have another one made? But there are three Pokemon Ranger games and like five Mystery Dungeons?

Titanfall and inFamous were the best-selling games

PS4 sales topped 7 million as of Sony's last count, while Microsoft says upwards of 5 million Xbox One consoles have been shipped to retailers since launch. The former system was the best-seller for March (that's three months in a row), according to the NPD Group. Titanfall led game sales.

Hang in there, Xbox One -- there's a ton of work ahead but you're not out of this race yet. "Of course, we're just getting started with this generation and the months ahead will bring several announcements we think you'll love," said Xbox corporate VP of marketing, strategy, and business Yusuf Mehdi. "We can't wait to share more games with you in June at E3."

As for the rest of March's software sales, it's nice to see another current-gen game, inFamous: Second Son, taking the number-two spot. South Park: The Stick of Truth came in third, then it was Call of Duty: Ghosts, followed by Dark Souls II in fifth place.

And a few new much-appreciated options

Tomorrow's update for inFamous: Second Son will give players the option to turn off the game's heads-up display, cap the frame rate at 30 frames per second, and, a??fter clearing the story, change the in-game time of day. But that's not all: there's also a?? new Photo Mode!

As demonstrated in the video above, this mode goes far enough to include depth-of-field adjustments, so it should prove to be a pretty neat addition for Second Son. T?he photo editor can be used whenever you have free control of the camera (i.e., outside of cut scenes).

Rounding out the update are a few less interesting but no less important things, like crash fixes, tw?eaked localization text, and automatic pausing if your controller runs out of power.

One last note, per Sucker Punch: "these options and settings, including frame rate, will reset to defaults eac?h time you restart the game. We chose to not disturb our game save file format with this patch in order get these features to you as quickly as we could."

As detailed on the PlayStation Blog, Sucker Punch Productions has spoken about a few new features it will be adding to inFamous: Second Soon in the coming weeks based on fan feedback.

It seems many of you requested the ability to change the in-game time of day to your liking and that will be possible upon completion of Second Son. Wh??at's more, options to turn off the heads-up display and cap the frame rate at 30 frames per second are planned as wel??l.

I've never been too bothered by variable frame rates, but for a game as pretty as this, removing the HUD is something I can get behind. Sucker Punch says that at the earliest, it can have a patch including features like this and bug fixes ready?? two weeks from now.

And more, if you bought a first-run copy of the game

As Chris mentioned in his review of inFamous: Second Son, Sucker Punch is expanding the core game with the Cole's Legacy and Paper Trail? story arcs. The first of this co??ntent will be playable tomorrow as part of a day-one patch alongside difficulty balancing and technical improvements.

Paper Trail is a free? set of 19 missions which are said to extend th?e game by approximately five hours and tell the "full story behind the [Department of Unified Protection's] occupation of Seattle" both in-game and online. This content was co-developed by alternate-reality game maker 42 Entertainment and also includes "web-based investigations."

As for Cole's Legacy, that's also free -- if you have a Limited Edition copy of Second Son. ?Sucker Punch says this is?? spread across four story missions, providing another hour of gameplay.

As much as it can be a pain to have day-one updates prevent you fro??m immediately diving into a game you just cracked open, this will be a welcome sight.

So I was strolling through [virtual] Seattle the other day in inFamous: Second Son, and found a conspicuous looking piece of street art. Yep, it's none other than Sly Cooper's face, painted on a ??random alley wall.

Of course, this could be nothing, as developer Sucker Punch has teased Sly Cooper before in past inFamous games. Then again, we eventually got to see Thieves in Time come to life in 2013 compliments of Sanzaru Ga??me?s, and there's a feature film in the works.

At the pr?esent time, it looks like ??Sly's legacy is still very much alive.

Delsin rules, Cole drools

I never liked the first inFamous.

I can't quite put my finger on what I disliked most -- perhaps it was the droll art style, the cookie-cutter city sandbox, or the sentient wooden plank that Sucker Punch named "Cole Macgrath." Thankfully, the New Orleans-like setting of the sequel spiced things up a bit, and the decision to go with an even sillier vampiric setup made Festival of Blood more enjoyable.

inFamous: Second Son takes everything that the series has done right, puts it ??in a blender, and delivers what is easily the strongest entry yet.

inFamous: Second Son (PS4)
Developer: Sucker Punch Productions
Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment

Release: March 21, 2014
Price: $59.99

inFamous kicks off with a completely self-contained story involving a world full of Conduits -- beings with super-powers dubbed "Bio-Terrorists" by the Department of Unified Protection, an agency that has the full legal authority to detain or destroy said beings. You don't need to know anything about the prior entries in the series to enjoy Second Son, nor do yo??u really have to reach far to grasp the initial conc?ept of superheroes walking the Earth, which is easily a good thing.

The story this time around follows Delsin, a young and defiant individual who finds himself smack dab in the mi?ddle of an incident of super proportions, when a van carrying various Conduits crashes into his hometown. After coming in contact with a fire-based being, he inherits the power of "Smoke," allowing him to teleport short distances, hover, and shoot fireballs from his hands.

The superhero origin story is a familiar one, but Delsin (and?? by proxy, his voice actor Troy Baker), brings a fresh perspective on the whole ordeal, as he's wholly likable from the start of the game. Although he's thrown into the thick of things almost immediately, it fe??els like we already know him, and with a familial connection to his tribe, it's really easy to feel for him right off the bat.

Simply put, Delsin (a name which according to him, his Mom got from an old western) is much more interesting than the wooden Cole, and it's easier to become invested in his story as a result. We see everything from Delsin's enthusiastic perspective, which helps make things more interesting for us, the viewer, as a result. It helps that the power of the PS4 makes each character?? model look more convincing, and the voice acting and writing are easily the best Sucker Punch has ever produced.

But it's not just Delsin's story, as he shares the spotlight with his brother Reggie (a police officer that presents an interesting dichotomy of justice), a number of other interesting and equally gifted Conduits, and a villain f?it to hate. I don't want to spoil anything, but there are plenty of twists and turns throughout the narrative, and while they aren't necessarily earth-shattering or mold-breaking, they work as intended and evoked an emotional reaction on more than one occasion. Everyone is perfectly casted, and gives it their all. If this is how Sucker Punch is going t?o create character-driven narratives from now on, I'm excited.

Second Son is also oozing with style beyond the interesting characters, as nearly every power or ability has some sort of elaborate on-screen effect when used. Every time Delsin levitates, f??lies through the air, or shoot?s a projectile, it looks just as cool as the impact, and it helps add to the allure of really playing as a superhero. He can also move through vents with the power of smoke, and eventually fly, which makes traversing the city more fun than ever before.

Combat is simplistic but it works like a charm, allowing Delsin to take command of both m?elee and ranged attacks, as well as modifications of both styles like stun grenades, rocket launcher-type ammo, super area-of-effect attacks, ground smashes, and more. His main weapon is a literally a chain caked in fire (haha, Kratos), which gets the job done. It helps that you get the majority of Delsin's flame powers within the first hour of the game, which really ups the pacing considerably. You'll eventually gain control of three distinct powers in all though, which can be switched at will by "sucking up" the appropriate source in the open world.

Delsin controls wonderfully for the most part, and Sucker Punch has even incorporated the Touch Pad on the DualShock 4 into some actions, including both regular old press motions and some swipes. Other than a set of jarring motion-controlled spray-can minigames (which are mostly optional), I have no real complaints with Second Son's near-flawless execution.

The "good or bad" karma system from past titles is still as shallow as ever, but it's not as ham-fisted as it was in the past. In Second Son&n??bsp;there's less of an emphasis on moral choices outside of a few key moments (which actually impact the character's relationships), and more of a focus on having fun with a second set of powers. And that's what really matters to me -- more emphasis has been put on enjoying yourself.

Once everything is said and done you can redo the story again on the other side of the morality coin, or explore everything -- which? will take quite some time beyond the roughly 10 to 15 hour story. Seattle is massive, and there are a ton of different "districts" to free from DUP jurisdiction, as well as new missions to find, enemies?? to fight, and blast shards to locate.

Said shards are actually a whole lot more fun to find now, as freeing up districts will help you locate them all on your map (thus serving a point to freeing everything), and the shards don't all just sit there -- you'll have to hunt down flying drones to get them all. It helps that the map is a sight to be??hold, and climbing up to the top of the Space Needle is definitely a "wow" moment.

Other than going for a full completion run and checking out the opposing powers, there are a few extras on the way in the form of a story called "Cole's Legacy" and the "Paper Trail" DLC series -- the latter of which will fo?llow an online and in-game story arc. These don't factor into the review, but they are something to be aware of, and expect coverage on Paper Trail in the future.

Second Son is by far the best inFamous yet. If you're a fan of the series, then checking this one out is a no-brainer, and if you're not, consider ?jumping in with Delsin. You don't need any prior knowledge of the franchise to do so, and if you have any appreciation of ope?n-world superhero games, you'll enjoy it.

No photos exist, sadly

Sucker Punch Productions has been making the rounds leading up to inFamous: Second Son's release a week from today, and speaking to GameSpot, co-founder Chris Zimmerm??an talked about the bizarre origins of the game that kicked off the open-word action series.

"The original idea for Infamous, believe it or not, was that it was kind of Animal Crossing, but you w??ere a super hero," said Zimmerman. This work went on for around a year and the pitch called for players to fight a gang of purple gorillas whose only crime was ste??aling balloons.

Zimmerman described this early inFamous as being "So much more stylized, much more cartoony than what you end up seeing. We worked hard to see if we could make that w??ork." Ultimately, the te??am decided to pivot once it was determined the project "really wasn't coming together."

I've got to say, I'm looking forw?ard to Infamous: Second Son. Now, this might surprise you if you follow my infuriatingly titled posts. Up until last week I didn't have any interest in Second Son. Sure, it looked neat, but who cares? It looks like I do.

Last week Phil and I got to play through a fairly sizable chunk of the game with Sucker-punch co-founder Chris Zimmerman. Oh my god the ga?me is a ton of fun. Fortunately for all of you lovely kiddos the show was recorded so you get to see Phil and I take play through the game with both good karma and bad karma. It's surprising how much actually changes depending on your alignment.

Not that I inherently dislike live-action trailers -- So?ny's have always been especially good, from the weird to the current Hollywood-level production trend -- but are we at a point with graphics that live-action commercials could completely die out in favor of gameplay?

Love the smiley faces on the soldier's helmets. And the super ??smarmy grin on the protagonist. He should be in a commercial for eyebrow pencils.

Butting up against Titanfall and Dark Souls II, inFamous: Second Son will be in a contested release window on March 21. It's quite the dark horse of the month. Hopefully it does well, though, because everyone who has played it (that I've talked to) seems to love it.

We'll be playing with Chris Zimmerman, Co-Founder of Sucker Punch

If you own a PlayStation 4, chances are you're pretty stoked about Infamous: Second Son. Now, if there's one thing we do here at Destructoid it's give our loyal fans what they need. So if you're preparing to cram Second Son into yo?ur disc tray as soon i?t's out you're going to want to check out Dtoid.tv on Thursday at around 4PM.

That's right, we'll have Sucker Punch Co-founder Chris Zimmerman in the office AND we're playing the game live! Most sites would settle for either one of those! "But wait" you might say, "Spencer, Infamous isn't ?out for like three weeks!" Yep, and that's not all?. We're also giving away a super sexy, limited edition statue live on the air.

Anyway, it's all going down on Thursday March 6. We'll be starting the show at 2PM PST over on Dtoid.tv. Mark those calendars!

12 full inches of Delsin Rowe

[Update: Contest over! Winner is skywes27!]

Our friends at Sony have given us two amazing Infamous: Second Son statues to hand out to the jbsgame.community! These 12" Polystone behemoths feature Second Son's protagonist, Delsin Rowe, standing atop a diorama of destructi?on holding a real metal chain. Only 150 of these were made and their estimated retail value is $200, so these are true collector's items!

We'll be giving away one statue here on the site and another during our exclusive Infamous: Second Son playthrough with Chris Zimmerman of Sucker Punch tomorrow at 2pm Pacific over on Dtoid TV. To get your name in the hat for the first, tell us in the comments below what you're looking forward to doing most once you get your hands on Second Son! Being from the Pacific Northwest, I can't wait to get my feet wet on the rainy streets of Seattle... and then set them on fire with a blast of neon! What about you?

You have until this Sunday, March 9 at 11:59pm Pacific to enter, and the contest is open to anyone in the U.S. Good luck! And don't forget, our Huge members get automatic entry i??nto all contests (as well as a bunch of othe?r awesome perks). It's pretty great!

So pretty

This 15-minute long gameplay video of Sucker Punch's inFamous: Second Son may be in Russian, but you don't need to speak the language to figure o?ut what's going on. It's just a lot of Delsin cruising around the Seattle rooftops and emanating streaks of purple with every movement.

But, he's not a one-trick pony! He also has a bit of orange up his sleeve, which he uses li??berally while disposing of guys that look way tougher than him. Wanton violence has never seemed so festive.

Digital discounts

It feels like inFamous: Second Son was a PS4 launch game right? It makes perfect s??en??se.

But it's still not here yet, and in the meantime, Sony has discounted the entire franchise on the PlayStation Store in the UK. You can grab the inFamous Collection (€18.89/AU$28.05/£15.38), Infamous (€10.04/AU$12.02/£7.36), inFamous 2 (€12.99/AU$16.21/£10.39), or Festival of Blood (€6.99/AU$10.11/£5.59) for your troubles.

If you're a PlayStation Plus member, you'll get a 10% discount. Personally, I'd recommend Festival of Blood as it's my personal favorite (and doesn't drag, since it's a shorter experience), then inFamous 2.
