During New York Comic-Con 2024, Sony and Insomniac Games announced that they are porting Marvel's Spider-Man 2 to PC on January 30, 2025. However an??other?? piece of information caught most of the fan's attention.

On the official PlayStation Blog, Aaron Jason Espinoza, Senior Community Manager at Insomniac Games, stated: "While we have no additional story content planned for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, we’re delighted to bring all of our previously released post-launch content?????????????????????????? to the PC version", further squelching all the fan's hopes of a potential DLC that would expand the game's storyline.

This is quite unfortunate, seeing as how the game left many open plot points that seemed to be teasing a DLC campaign, with the "The Flame" side quest being one of the most prominent ones. In contrast, the original Spider-Man game by Insomniac had three DLC packs with lengthy story campaigns that were already out a few weeks after the game's ??launch. On top of that, it still got constant free updates throughout the follo?wing months.

Fans had high hopes for a potential DLC campaign for Spider-Man 2

Fan reaction on social media websites like Twitter/X or Reddit has been extremely negative, since most of them have been waiting for a DLC announcement since Marvel's Spider-Man 2 released on October 20, 2023, more than a year ago. Getting a confirmation that this is now not going to happen, after so much waiting, was definitely?? disappointing for most of them.

The r/SpidermanPS4 subreddit didn't take the news very well, with many of its members stating their disdain for Marvel's Spider-Man 2, since now they have confirmation that it's not going to get any more story updates. Many others even went ahead and accused Insomniac of not giving the game the treatment it needed and deserved. Nevertheless, some fan??s sp?eculate that Insomniac was maybe working on a DLC campaign, and it decided to save it for a separate project (like a standalone Venom game) that it can release in-between bigger games, similar to Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Ah, the halcyon days of gaming where furry mascots hopped across and fell off platforms. Among many of its kind stood Ratchet & Clank, a game that started a franchise that continues to this day. For the curious, here are all the Ratchet & Clank games in release order.

I'm not saying you should play every Ratchet & Clank game, in order or otherwise. But you should at least look into the franchise if you enjoy platforming, shooting, and general space-faring hijinks. You'll get all those things, plus several games in which ?the titles are clear innuendos so dorks like me can giggle every time we recommend them.

Every Ratchet & Clank mainline game in release order

Naturally, we'll start at the very beginning of the franchise: Ratchet & Clank, which starred a furry cat alien and his talking metal backpack. There are nine mainline Ratchet & Clank games, and here they are in release order.

Image via Insomniac Games

Ratchet & Clank - PlayStation 2 (2002)

Ratchet & Clank was released in 2002 for the PlayStation 2, a year after the platform's launch. Starring Ratchet, a furry Lombax, and his minuscule robot partner, Clank, the duo fight against an alien menace that was?? rampaging across the galaxy.

Ratchet & Clank set the tone for its eventual successors. Goofy humor ran throughout the game, which introduced quirky characters like Captain Qwark. It also set the foundation for the series' upgradable weapon system, as well as the ability to travel to multiple, diverse planets and locales. Ratchet & Clank was a major success for d??eveloper Insomniac Games, and it set the stage for a well-loved series yet to come.

Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando - PlayStation 2 (2003)

Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando was the first of many games in the series to include some kind of innuendo in its title. But apparently not everyone appreciated the tongue-in-cheek humor, as the second game in the franchise went as Locked in Loaded in the UK and Australia and Ratchet & Clank 2 in Japan. Some folks just can't appreciate a good nudity joke. Anyway, Going Commando continued the journey of the (now famous) eponymous duo as they're joined by Angela Cross. Together, they take on ?the mercenary group Thugs-4-Less and villainous MegaCorp to end a dastardly plot that threatens the galaxy once more.

Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal - PlayStation 2 (2004)

See? Innuendos. Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal is the third game in the franchise to hit the PlayStation 2 in the early aughts, but not the last. Up Your Arsenal shook things up a bit for the franchise by being the first to offer a separate online mode. Many single-player games around this era experimented with multiplayer features, likely to increase longevity. Some pulled it off, like with Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow and its superb Spies vs. Mercs mode. Up Your Arsenal's take on multiplayer was successful as well, and the mode stayed? online u?ntil 2012.

The plot for Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal takes the duo ??to Ratchet's home planet, which was being besieged by the monstrous Tyhrran?oids. Ratchet soon finds himself swept up in another galactic conspiracy, in which he and Clank hop from planet to planet trying to stop the one who set the Tyhrranoid threat in motion.

Image via Insomniac Games

Ratchet: Deadlocked - PlayStation 2 (2005), PlayStation 3 (remastered 2013)

Ah, damn it. "Deadlocked" isn't a secret innuendo for something, is it? Oh, well. Just going by the name, Ratchet: Deadlocked certainly doesn't sound like a typical game in the franchise. You'd be correct. The final game in the series on the PlayStation 2 only allowed you to play as Ratchet, who gets captured and forced to compete in an intergalactic blood sport. Deadlocked was al??l about action, enhancing the gameplay with powerful weapon mods and deadly vehicles.

Image via Insomniac Games YouTube

Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction - PlayStation 3 (2007)

Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction was the first game in the franchise to appear on the PlayStation 3. Despite having "Future" in the name, Tools of Destruction doesn't really evolve the classic Ratchet & Clank formula by much. You shoot, jump, and shoot some more across several locations using crazy tools and weapons. It does make use of the SIXAXIS controller, but it's still a typical R&C game through and through. Unlike Deadlocked, it returns with the platforming and puzzle-solving elements that h?elped define the original tril??ogy.

The major change is hinted at by the game's title: It's the first in the Future trilogy and features the boys zipping through ti?me to stop a new plot.

Image via Insomniac Games YouTube

Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty - PlayStation 3 (2008)

"Quest for Booty" isn't arguably an innuendo as it is a double entendre, but I'll take it. We're back! Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty follows up its predecessor by tasking Ratchet with rescuing Clank, who was kidnapped at the end of Tools of Destruction. Talwyn Apogee, who made her appearance in the prior game, joins Ratchet in his chase. As you may have surmised from the title, the game features themes about... pirates (get your head out of the gutter).

Ratchet and Talwyn find themselves hunting the space pi?rate Captain Angstrom Darkwater. The ??game was a quick romp, coming in at only about four hours. It mostly seems to exist to set up the next, final game in the saga.

Image via Insomniac Games YouTube

Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time - PlayStation 3 (2009)

We're done with the silly titles in the mainline series now, and the world feels ever colder for it. Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time is the last in the Future trilogy. It follows up Quest for Booty with Ratchet still on the hunt for his robot buddy. Clank is in the hands of Dr. Nefarious, who believes there's some secret locke?d deep inside the bot's memories?.

A Crack in Time is heavy on the plot, with Ratchet and company hopping around planets and zipping through time to stop Nefarious once and for all. Ratchet gets some much-needed closure, and the game ends on an emotional note. For some fans, A Crack in Time might have felt like the final game ??in the franch??ise, but they'd be wrong.

Image via Insomniac Games

Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus - PlayStation 3 (2013)

A personal favorite of mine, Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus took place after the events of the Future games and the spin-off Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault. Ah, an innuendo! I knew we weren't done with those ye??t. So, they hid them in the spin-off games. Sneaky.

Into the Nexus stars the duo after they joined the ranks?? of the Polaris Defense Force. The shorter, more tightly focused game has the boys hopping dimensions and manipulating gravity in the ??hunt to once again take down the Thugs-4-Less mercenaries led by Vendra and Neftin Prog.

Image via Insomniac Games

Ratchet & Clank - PlayStation 4 (remake 2016)

Technically, Ratchet & Clank (2016) puts the list of mainline games up to 10, but it's also a remake of the original and this is my list so it sits here in a weird spot between Into the Nexus and Rift Apart. The remake launched on the PlayStation 4 and exists as the only Ratchet & Clank game made for the platform. Insomniac Games had been busy with Sunset Overdrive and a couple of other games before exploding back onto the scene with the amazing (and spectacular) Marvel's Spider-Man in 2018.

Ratchet & Clank (2016) re-imagines the 2002 original, while also acting as a bit of an advertisement for the animated movie that was in development alongside the game. It feat??ured some clips from the film as well while sharing art and models.

It would be unfair to call the remake a simple tie-in for the film. Ratchet & Clank was a solid game in its own right, r??eworking the classic gameplay to suit modern audiences. It was a hit among critics and fans, unlike the movie which launched the same year to a middling response.

Image via Insomniac Games

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart - PlayStation 5 (2021), PC (2023)

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is the first mainline game in the series in roughly a decade, but it was worth the wait. ??The duo returns on PlayStation 5, using the platform's might to charge new gameplay elements. Manipulating "rifts" is the primary gameplay conceit, letting players solve platforming challenges and fly through dimensions nearly instantaneously.

The story has Ratchet hopping from dimension to dimension, hunting down Clank who was taken by an "Into the Ratchet-verse" Lombax named Rivet. Players get to explore the game's worlds as both Rivet and Ratchet. And though the two are different, they play almost exactly the same. Despite this, Rift Apart went on to become a critical success. Hopefully, we se??e more o?f the Ratchet and Clank team in the future.

Every Ratchet & Clank spin-off game in release order

If you think the franchise only included nine (arguably 10) games, you'd be mistaken. The Ratchet & Clank series includes six spin-off games across consoles and handhel??d devices. And a couple of them might have been good!

Ratchet & Clank: Going Mobile - Mobile phone (2005)

Ratchet & Clank: Going Mobile was developed by Sony Pictures Mobile in 2005, and launched for mobile phones around the same time as Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal. The two games shared some art, but their stories never crossed. In Going Mobile, Ratchet and Clank are sucked into the confines of a mobile phone on the hunt for the pieces of a mystical thing that will set them free. It tickles me that the item is called a "MCGuFIN." A sequel called Ratchet & Clank: Clone Home was planned but canceled.

Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters - PlayStation Portable (2007), PlayStation 2 (ported 2008)

Ah, the ill-fated PlayStation Portable (PSP). Despite its inability to knock Nintendo's portable devices off their lofty perch, the PSP did have a rather solid library. One such shining example is Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters by High Impact Games in 2007. Size Matters, which is indeed an innuendo (it didn't escape my eyes), proved that the classic Ratchet & Clank formula could succeed even in a more compact setting. It?? offered everything fans loved about the series. You had gadgets, upgradable weapons, puzzles, platforming, and more. It also didn't skimp on content, coming in at around eight hour??s.

Image via MobyGames

Secret Agent Clank - PlayStation Portable (2008)

I have not played Secret Agent Clank, but I am aware of it. The game starred mostly Clank in a James Bond-esque adventure complete with gag tools and weapons like Cuff Link Bombs and a Tie-a-Rang. It also included vehicles to drive and, unlike Ratchet, Clank could deploy martial arts moves and finishers against foes. Secret Agent Clank derived from the other games, and performed moderately well. But it couldn't quite recapture the success of its predeces??sor.

Image via Insomniac Games YouTube

Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One - PlayStation 3 (2011)

Following their PSP iterations, Ratchet and Clank continued their spin-off adventure back on console. The boys were back under the care of Insomniac Games with Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One, a spin-off that took place sometime after the end of Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack In Time.

Ratchet and Clank are joined by Captain Qwark and, in a twist, their age-long nemesis Dr. Nefarious. The four-player co-op adventure had the unusual team fight against an even-worse foe. All 4 One was primarily a multiplayer game, where yo??u faced off against bots in online play.

Image via Insomniac Games YouTube

Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault - PlayStation 3 (2012), PlayStation Vita (ported 2013)

I'm glad we can have this one final innuendo (yes, I'm counting it). Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault is the series' last spin-off game on console, having launched for the PlayStation 3 in 2012. It was followed up by a PS Vita port in 2013, but that didn't do the game any favors. Full Frontal Assault was a tower defense game set in the Ratchet & Clank universe, and it launched ?to above-average scores.

Image via MobyGames

Ratchet & Clank: Before the Nexus - Mobile devices (2013)

Launched as a promotional game for Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus, Before the Nexus is an endless runner for iOS and Android devices. The game has you as Ratchet hopping on grindrails and collecting bolts to trade for upgrades. You can also gather Raritanium, a material that can be used in Into the Nexus. The game is still downloadable on the iOS and Android stores under the name Ratchet & Clank: BTN if you're curious.

The web-heads at Insomniac Games must be celebrating, as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 sales have reached over 10 million copies as of February 4, 2024. The news was provided to us by Sony, who just released its financial results for the latest fiscal quarter.

“Today, we're honored to celebrate an amazing milestone: Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has surpassed 10 million units sold, bringing the game series sales to an astounding 50 million units!said Insomniac Games on Twitter. “Thank you for the support and making this spectacular journey possible!/p>

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 sales topple 10 million copies.

It’s “amazingthat with just three games in the series, 50 million units have been sold. PlayStation’s purc?hase of the talented studio Insomniac Games for $229 million seems to be a slam dunk with these Marvel's Spider-Man 2 sales numbers.

Those who picked up the sequel might be happy to know there’s a big title update coming March 7. It will include New Game+, new suits to play in?, and more. No other details are out yet.

The news of the game reaching 10 million units is no doubt a good win, after the trouble caused by the Insomniac Games hack late last year. Upcoming plans, development videos, and per??sonal data were all shared ?from a ransom attack. Hopefully this success can help ease any lingering hurt from that.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 released back on October 20, 2023. Destructoid gave it a 9/10 review. “It’s abundantly clear that this series isn’t over yet, and I hope that Insomniac never really stops working on superhero games, said our review. “There’s so much of the Spider-Man mythos that’s untapped so far, and you could keep this gravy train running with some crazier ideas once this presumed trilogy is over./p>

Insomniac Games intended to deliver Marvel's Spider-Man 2 New Game+ mode before the end of 2023. Unfortunately, the development team couldn't meet the original deadline, but now it's set to launch a NG+? for Peter and Miles next month.

With 2024 in full swing, Insomniac is eyeing a new timeframe to release New Game+ for Spider-Man 2. The team announced today that the highly requested feature, plus a few other additions, will be coming to the quite-popular Sony sequel in March.

//twitter.com/insomniacgames/status/1755275417898906098

Insomniac confirms New Game+, fresh suits, and other additional content will be part of the update on March 7. The Spider-Man 2 develop?er also teased that "highly requested features" are being added at the same time as New G?ame+, but we won't hear about those until closer to the update's release.

Any fans hoping for story DLC to drop soon should probably continue to hold tight. The initial Spider-Man on PlayStation 4 saw the first wave of its City that Never Sleeps content come out a little over a month following the debut of the base game. Spider-Man 2 was released on October 20, a??nd there is no confirmation either way from Insomniac whethe??r additional story content is coming.

The unfortunate Insomniac hack late last year may have indicated there's more in the works. However, internal plans and development cycles frequently change,?? so nothing is certain until it's officially official.

There are certainly lingering storylines that fans would be excited to see utilized for potential Spider-Man 2 DLC (where the Crimson Hour story goes next, for one). Time will tell if we get just that, or whether we'll have to wait for what's next for the franchise fu??rther down the? line.

Upon hea??ring all the voicemails, she "immediately felt unsafe and uncomfortable." Though it should need no explaining, she highlights that while she may be the face behind a cultural icon, she is still "a human being trying t??o make a living just like you."

She also highlights that her skincare page isn't for Spider-Man or MJ fans. She asks fans to not cross boundaries, informs everyone that messages will not be answered??, and you can expect to be blocked if she feels uncomfortable.

It's worth noting that she had no longer been an actively auditioning actor or model before the incident. The roles she accepts are ?only creative outlets for herself and with friends.

Jones joins an unfortunately long list of actors who have found themselves harassed following their gaming fame. This includes Laura Bailey who received threats towards her and her family after her performance as Abby in The Last of Us Part 2.

Though they're wildly different games on the surface, Alan Wake 2 and Spider-Man 2 are sequels representing massive achievements for their respective studios. In an IGN interview, Remedy's Sam Lake and Insomniac's John McAdam discuss ?some of the intricacies of game developme?nt, and how they dealt with having two protagonists.

Alan Wake 2's story is split between Alan Wake the writer, and Saga Anderson the FBI agent who has been dragged into a twisted tale. In Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker's back but ?he sh??ares the spotlight with Miles Morales.

According to McAdam, having the two protagonists forced the studio to shift from the original ideas driving the narrative. At first, Venom was going to be a central character that "was going to weave in and out of all the other characters i?n the story and affect them."

However, with two protagonists to juggle as well, it felt like there was too much going on. Consequently, things had t??o change. This was mostly driven by writer Lauren Mee who decided that Miles should have his own arc with Martin Li. This change ensured that it doesn't feel like Miles "was not participating in the story because it's Peter who succumbs" to the symbiote.

Lake highlights how dual protagonists complicate the process of building suspense. Typically, you'd "lead the character into a cliffhanger and that's the point to switch."?? But players have freedom concerning when they switch, so that tool isn't available anymore. Like McAdam, Lake relied on a lot of other writers to get the two character arcs right, including ??Clay Murphy.

Of course, the challenges that come with having two protagonists aren't limited to narrative. There are also gameplay elements to consider. Though it was tough to include the feature to switch between characters in an open-world game like Spider-Man 2, it w?as worth it because it's "so freeing for the player."

What goes into creating Alan Wake 2 and Spider-Man 2

The two creatives also discuss how t??hey go about planning these large narratives. Lake admits he takes an old-school appr??oach and relies on a whiteboard. As his theoretical backbone, he uses "three helper structures: the three act structure, the hero's journey, five or seven stages of grief." McAdam has an approach that isn't too different, as he also uses a whiteboard and describes himself as a "structure nerd."

Both creatives also seem quite obsessive in just how detailed and planned their narratives need to be. Lake describes his stories as having multiple layers that begin ??with a synopsis. But he's usually no??t satisfied at first, which motivates him to "write a proper treatment that can be anything from 30 pages to 50 pages on the detail level of what is actually going on and happening." This is something McAdam relates to, and he also likes "to do a detailed treatment."

We also get a?? glimpse into the editing process. Even at the heights Lake and McAdam work at, they still occasiona??lly have a hard time with the editing process and letting go of ideas that they and the team love but might not work for the project.

As Lake explains, you need to be in a mental place where you "bear the fact that things are not locked. And for some people, it's harder and a lot ?more stressful." McAdams relates, though he admits the following: "one of the things I've learned to embrace as I've gotten older is it's okay if we change things, because if we're changing it, we're changing it for a good re?ason."

Both Spider-Man 2 and Alan Lake 2 have been well-received and have collected plenty of accolades. At The Game Awards, Remedy's sequel nabbed three awards while Insomniac's project dominated the player-voted PlayStation awards.

The PS4 hasn't been forgotten, and Hogwarts Legacy won Game of the Year for the console. A massive amount of information regarding Insomniac Games and future Sony ventures has been posted online. Insomniac, victims of a ransomware attack, has now seen details about Wolverine and other major projects shared, alongside? personal empl??oyee information.

Per Cyber Daily, which is reportedly in contact with the group behind the leak, the leak was uploaded in parts and shared details on many upcoming projects. This includes development footage of Wolverine, files from the recent Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and details about upcoming projects, including a new publishing agreement for another Marvel property, X-Men.

Alongside unreleased game documentation, employee info also seems to have leaked because of this hack. Cyber Daily's report mentions internal HR documents, includin?g employment forms, and Slack screenshots.

The hackers purportedly behind the attac?k made a threat to publish more, after releasing a few verifying materials, and asked a sum for the data.

The industry's response

Following the leaks, developers and even studio accounts have come out in support of Insomniac. Remedy Entertainment emphasizes the "truly disgr??aceful and shameful" leak of employe?e's personal info.

Wushu Studios, which has worked on State of Decay 2, Baldur's Gate 3, Forza Horizon 5, and more also sent love and support. "Game creators work tirelessly to create works of art & entertainment for everyone," the studio writes. "To ??see any team rewarded for this with malicious attacks & blackmail is cruel."

There's nothing worse than swinging in New York City and having all that momentum slam to a halt after getting stuck in a wall. Thankfully, the latest update for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 fixes some troublesome clipping issues and a bug that coul?d corrupt your ?save file.

The latter issue is clearly the larger concern. Thankfully, according to the notes released by developer Insomniac Games, the bug appears only in a very specific situation. And there's only one such bug listed with the update. A majority of the fixes cover collision problems, getting stuck on? objects, or clipping through or into things. For some, Spider-Man would warp through the ground like Nightcrawler and fall forever into?? the screaming void. The patch should hopefully fix it. Hopefully.

Spider-Man 2 update fixes the infamous 'Spider-Box' once again

The Spider-Man 2 update includes five fixes for clipping issues. It addresses situations where you can get stuck while running on a ?wall or clip through the world while in combat. There's also a fix for one issue that I had to deal with. While playing the Coney Island story mission, I had Peter Parker sit on a bench that must have been coated with glue. He wouldn't stand up, and I had to restart a checkpoint. If this happened to you, the update should fix it.

The patch also corrects the model-loading issue, of which the character turns into a white box. And if you've checked the game's subreddit, the bu??g is not as uncommon as you'd think. It may have even happene?d once to yours truly.

I had fun with it. Screenshot by Destructoid

There are other issues addressed by the update. Missions should no longer randomly fail if you have the HUD removed. The game should also count the number of correct flips if you're going for the Hang Ten trophy. Check out the full list to learn more.

Part of what makes our friendly neighborhood Spidey so special is his care and compassion for community. In Spider-Man 2, side? quests reinforce some of the series' guiding ideals: heroism isn't always about taking down larger-than-life villains, like The Sandman. Sometimes, your challenges require a more thoughtful touch.

Spider-Man 2 side quests are a must

It's the city, personified

Peter and Miles often face an onslaught of action in New York, but Spider-Man 2 side quests offer moments of respite. They're opportunities to truly live in the Big Apple, listening to citizens' stories, and enjoying an extra puzzle o?r two.

A few truly stand out to me, like when Miles tries to help a classmate ask his boyfriend out to prom. It's simple and straightforward, but the perspective is sweet as Vijay prepares to ask his beau out in a grand fashion. The TV Vijay plans on using won't connect to the power, so Miles tries to reroute electricity to the shoddy screen. Spider-man 2's simplistic, rewarding puzzles connect one node to the next, guiding the love story as you go. The whole sequence offers an adorable, thoughtful touch. As someone who's bisexual, it's one of tho??se intimate deta??ils I just appreciate.

The Spider-Man 2 side quests shouldn't be skipped

Saving the day

Another mission sends Miles to find the mascot for his school. It's been locked away by a rival school, hidden behind more difficult puzzles this time. The cheeky writing and the puzzles use reflecting lights between mirrors, the tone more than makes up for any moments of frustration in finding a solution. You also get neat interactions between Miles' crush, Hailey, and our hero as they try to figure out each clue presented. It demonstra??tes their comradery, as Spider-Man's side quests add brilliant layers of context and background to Miles Morales.

Then there's a favorite a touching moment as you search for a lost grandfather. Without spoiling too much, he shares a moment with Spider-Man on a bench, offering a solemn, thoughtful scene without over-dramatizing. It's the quietest, most sincere?? cutscene I'll probably witness in a game this year.

Finding all of the collectibles also pays off in the overall narrative. For example, if you find all the Prowler Stash locations, you'll find out more about the future of Miles' uncle.?? It's the tiny details like this that truly made the experience for me. Even the smallest moments of tenderness snowball into something bigger than an individual.

Spider-Man is just Some Guy

While none of these quests are revolutionary, they all show the human side of both Spider-Men. They're not gallivanting off to Wakanda like The Avengers or saving the galaxy, like Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. They're just the down-to-earth, friendly neighborhood hero we all know and love. The movies may not have the luxury of time to show life's milestones and private challenges, but the community is its own character here. Spider-Man 2's side quests play to th??e medium's strengths, offering another look at the heroes that truly earn them the title.

Despite Insomniac Games' position as an industry leader, I've struggled to understand why its games are so beloved when they often feel so infantile. Ratchet and Clank games have never pried a smile from me, and I found it a chore to complete Miles Morales.

Through Spider-Man 2, Insomniac Games has once again set a new bar when it comes to presenting some of the mos?t polished AAA games of the last few? years. With this game, I think I may have figured out why the studio attracts so many ardent fans around the world.

Polished until it shines like a diamond

There's very little you can say to make an honest argument against the game's performance and presentation. It offers a good array of graphical options, allowing players to decide whether they prefer framerate or fidelity. Either?? way, you don't lose out on too much visual quality, as both modes feature ray-tracing. There's also uncapped VRR available to make the most of the game perfo?rmance-wise.

New York is prettier than ever, especially compared to its PS4 predecessor. As you we?b-swing through the city, you're treated to impressive reflectio??ns on the cloud-tickling towers and streets populated with bustling commuters and congested traffic. It may just be one of the best-looking games on the console at the moment.

Insomniac has even had time to add a few Easter eggs for hardcore Spider-Man fans. A couple of suits reference the Spider-Verse movies, and you can even add comic book special effects to make you feel like you're living out your favorite Spider-Man comic.

Miles and Hailey in Spider-Man 2.

The quality do?esn't let up when it comes to the audio. Although the soundtrack is nothing special, the game utilizes 3D audio so precisely that you're able to easily pinpoint which direction enemy attacks ??are coming from. When walking the streets, the sounds of the city are satisfyingly immersive, and when you close your eyes, it's easy to imagine you're in the Big Apple.

The game is also one of the best showcases of the DualSense controller's features since Astro's Playroom. The adaptive triggers ?make web-swinging more immersive, and the haptic feedba?ck is so expertly used that you can feel the texture of the street under your wheels during a mission that has Peter cycling.

To top it off, the game just oozes cool. It nails its aesthetic, managing to blend Spider-Man's comic book history with a sleek, modern interface. The characters always have something witty to say and even the villains are deliciously devious, making encounters with them unforgettable. All of these features help make Spider-Man 2 a jewel on the PS5's crown.

Something feels a little hollow

Though there's plenty of praise that can be piled onto Spider-Man 2, I fi?nd myself unable to escape the feeling that though the experience may be a flashy one, it is ultimately superficial and without much depth once you scratch the surface.

Spider-Man's movements are satisfyingly smooth and his special moves are a visual treat, but the combat is also as shallow as a teaspoon. Even on the hard??est difficulty, it's incredibly easy to overpower hordes of enemies without pressing much but the square button?? and occasionally R1.

The problem worsens as you progress and by the time your level is in the ??30s, you're capable of taking out entire waves of enemies relying solely on your Gadgets and Abilities. It results in some extremely flashy combat scenes, but it also requires almost no skill.

Hunters in Spider-Man 2.

A similar experience occurs with traversal. Web-swinging is fun, but after a while, it becomes impossible to ignore just how repetitive the landscape is. It's gorgeous, but the streets lack enough personality for you to learn any?? routes, and without the splatterings of the sometimes annoying collectibles to find, there would be next to no reason to ever engage with the open world instead of just fast-traveling between missions.

This is not to say that Spider-Man 2 is without its heartwarming moments. The game nails it when it comes to its story which is a reimagining of one of the most beloved Spider-Man storylines. We see Miles and Peter grow as cha??racters, and ??the depiction of Venom may just be the best yet.

More than the games prior, Spider-Man 2 lets you get up close and personal with New Yorkers who aren't Peter, Miles, or MJ. You'll find these moments during the side activities, such as one which has you finding someone's lost grandpa. Wh?en he's finally located, you get to hear him reminisce over his deceased wife.

Another wholesome moment occurs during a mission that has? Miles investigating some graffiti which leads to him spending time with Hailey. The mission is better experienced than explained, but it offers a glimpse of how powerful gaming can be when it is used to help us connect with others.

It's okay to have fun

My taste in video games is abnormally narrative-centric. I'm constantly searching for games with the best stories and ?characters, and nothing delights me more than a game that successfully uses the medium to tell its tale innovatively.

This approach has exposed me to some of the best titles the medium has to offer, but it?? is a route that does not guarantee joy. Some of the games with the best tales deemphasize gameplay, are indies that lack high production value or are emotionally powerful specifically because of how terrible they make you feel. You're bombarded with gore, grief, and stressful suspense that sometimes comes with no resolution.

Miles Morales blasting fireworks in Spider-Man 2.

With Spider-Man 2, I'm asked to do the opposite. Pretentiousness is set aside in favor of somewhat mindless fun and intense sensory stimulation. The flashy moves and lack of challenge let you feel like a powerful superhero with the entire city as your playground. Some of my most fun moments with the game didn't come during main story missions, but instead through ??gliding t?hrough New York, as monotonous as it is, and feeling the awesome freedom of flight.

The air streams are nonsensical but they're exhilarating to ride, the Gadgets are overpowered but it's fun feeling like goons are nothing bu??t gna?ts to flick away, and the open world serves little purpose but it may be one of the most graphically impressive showcases on the PS5.

If there's anything Spider-Man 2 perfects, it's delivering non-stop awesomeness. Unlike prior Insomniac games,?? I was smiling for most of my playthrough, and for that alone, it is, to my as??tonishment, one of my favorite releases this year.

Numbers from the UK are also impressive. GameIndustry.biz reveals that Spider-Man 2 clenched the top spot when it comes to physical sales in the UK, surpassing Super Mario Bros Wonder. It also had 5% greater sales than Hogwarts Legacy on PS5. Overall, it is the 4th biggest physical launch in the UK this year, surpassed by Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, EA Sports FC24, and Hogwarts Legacy on all platforms.

Spider-Man 2's success is a product of some wise choices made by Sony over the years. It purchased the Spider-Man IP from Marvel in 1999 for $7 million which has turned out to be an incredibly advantageous move. Years later, Sony then tapped Insomniac to develop a new Spider-Man game, leading to the PS4 game. Not long after the studio was purchased by Sony for $229 million.

Insomniac has proven itself yet again, but the studio isn't ready to sleep yet. Superhero fans can also look forward to Wolverine which is currently in development.

Spider-Man 2 has only recently hit shelves but already Insomniac is thinking about the future. The first Spider-Man game received a spin-off, Miles Morales, so it's natural to wonder whether the sequel will also feature a sequel, perhaps this time starring Venom. According to senior narrative director Jon Paquette, Insomniac is waiting ?to see how the fans react before they decide on the direction of a possible spinoff.

As Paquette explains, the main question Insomniac asks itself is "what do the fans really want?" Then, they try to give them that. After Spider-Man 2's successful launch, the studio does need s?ome recovery time but discussing ideas will resume once everyone has "had time to slee??p and take vacations."

Venom and his 19 inches

In Paquette's interview with Insider, he reveals that the aim was for the game to be "one of the best Venom stories you've ever experienced." To do this, they would need an amazing voice actor, and it was found that Candyman's Tony Todd was the man for the job. When crafting the tale, Insomniac drew from the Spider-Man comics, but ??the studio still puts a unique twist o?n things.

It's not hard to imagine a Venom spin-off being celebrated, as it appears the character has already struck a chord with players. Part of his popularity comes from a viral PlayStation Tweet falling victim to bad phrasin??g when describing the Venom statue that comes with the Collector's Edition.

In Spider-Man 2, Venom's symbiote is? discovered to help heal sickness and make its host feel stronger than ever. The longer it sticks around, however, the more it shows its sinister side, but?? by then it may be too late.

Ve??nom is a handful, but?? Peter doesn't have to face him alone. He receives help from Miles Morales, who you can also play as.

Insomniac's Spider-Man 2 launched on PS5 this week, starting a new chapter in one of PlayStation's flagship series. The importance of the game for the console cannot be understated, as it is one of the biggest current-gen PlayStation exclusives to date. A recent Bloomberg report suggests that Peter and Miles' latest adventure could be the key to the kind of P??S5 sales grow?th Sony is looking for.

As the report highlights, though the PS5 has been a popular console, it has faced a few circumstances that have limited how many units could be sold. One of the biggest hurdles was the COVID-19 pandemic which constrained the company's ability to meet demand. Consequently, the PS5 has sold 40 million units since launch in 2020. This is a good number, but the PS4 managed to do it ??in about two and a half years.

High hopes for Spider-Man 2

Sony is hoping to sell 25 million PS5s this fiscal year. Supply chain issues have been resolved, and the company has also revealed?? smaller models set to release this holiday, which should help boost sales as we?ll.

There is reason to believe that Spider-Man 2 could help Sony achieve its ambitious goals. The first game from Insomniac, as well as Miles Morales, together sold 33 million copies. Its proven track record for drawing in fans makes Spider-Man one of the PS5's key franchises.

Research director Lewis Ward predicts that the game "will eventually sell tens of millions of copies." This isn't hard to believe, as Spider-Man 2 has been receiving excellent critical acclaim. It's a fun game with plenty of action, humor, and Easter eggs for long-time fans of New York'??s favorite web-slinging crime fighter.

Marvel's Spider-Man didn't include the option to replay the story in New Game Plus mode when it first launched in 2018. But Insomniac wasn't lazing about in a hammock made of webbing, either. The developer launched the feature roughly six weeks after launch. Is?? it coming to the sequel? Oh yes, and now w??e (roughly) know when: before the end of this year.

New Game Plus (NG+) won't be alone on missing release, as Spider-Man 2 is also getting updated with a mission replay feature too. This update flew a bit under our radar, but like any wily city pigeon, we eventually caught it. Within the replies to Insomniac's announcement of a game up on Twitter/X, the company's community director was hashing out what's coming to Spider-Man 2 post-launch. The director in question, James Stevenson, mentioned New Game Plus mode will release for Spider-Man 2 "before [the] end of [the] year."

Will New Game Plus and mission replay release for Spider-Man 2 at the same time?

The bonus to the news is that the NG+ mode isn't coming to the game alone. Spider-Man 2 will get a mission replay feature, according to Stevenson. It's not confirmed that it'll arrive alongside New Game Plus, however. In a reply, Stevenson wrote that the team is "working on an update for those features," including NG+, "but they won't be in Day 1." He l?ater clarifies when NG+ is expected to drop, but isn't ??specific about mission replay.

Either way, it should be exciting for Spider-Man 2 fans who dream of knocking out early-game bosses while fully kitted out. The NG+ update for the original game included two more trophies: 'One ??More Time' got awarded for playing the game again in NG+, and 'Power and Responsibility' was earned after beating the game in Ultimate difficulty. And yes, you could acquire the latter trophy in NG+.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 launches on PlayStation 5 on October 20.

The COVID-19 pandemi?c drastically shifted how employees work in several industries, including gaming. As th??e world recovers, different studios have been trying different strategies to adapt to changed employee expectations. This becomes obvious when you compare Insomniac and Roblox Corporation.

Insomniac has been having a great week thanks to the good reviews Spider-Man 2 has been getting. As everyone celebrates another impressive achievement from Insomniac, journalist Jason Schreier re?vealed that the studio allows employees to work from wherever they want.

//twitter.com/jasonschreier/status/1714421338213863771

Some commenters did point out that there are some restrictions regarding which US ?states ??and Canadian provinces this is allowed in, though it appear?s p??ossible in most of North America.

Roblox Corporation has also been having a fantastic time on the PS5 recently. According to games industry analyst Mat Piscatella, in its launch week it "ranked 3rd in percentage of PlayStation players that played the title at least once," putting it behind only Fortnite and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

On the same day as Schreier's Tweet, Roblox CEO David Baszucki released a public post revealing that several remote workers are going to be asked to return to work at the headquarters in San Mat?eo. Baszucki explains that while the option to continue to support remote work was considere?d, it was decided that "Roblox is an innovation company and we needed to get back to working in person."

The higher-ups were also concerned about the "many cohorts, such as our new college graduates and people early in their careers, who typically learn through social contact and would miss out on this mentorship." Employees asked to ret??urn to in-person work have until January 2024 to decide.

Those who agree will be assisted with relocation costs, while those who choose not to will have until April 15th, 2024 to transition out of their full-time roles, though they w??ill receive "a severance package based on their indiv??idual level and term of service, along with six months of healthcare coverage for everyone on their policies"

Though Roblox and Insomniac have addressed the same issue differently, it is possible to see both positives and negatives in either approach. Concerns about whether remote work can facilitate the kind of innov??ation birthed from in-person teams are valid, though the return to on-site work will be? a drastic change for many employees who have gotten used to their work-from-home lifestyle.

Insomniac's approach seems to give employees more freedom but it's worth remembering, as Schreier points out,? that remote work can result in greater crunch, as it's easier to put in extra hours accidentally.

Insomniac Games has been on my radar for a long, long time. From their mascot platformer days, you could consider me a fan, and when they started to shift into more serious narratives with Resistance, I was along for the ride. But it wasn't until Marvel's Spider-Man in 2018 that I perked up and realized what they could do. With the standalone Miles Morales game and now the full Spider-Man sequel, they're really proving that they're one of the biggest forces in game developmen?t right now.

Yep! Even though there are a few lingering ??series issues present he??re, they didn't screw up the follow-up.

Even the recap has heart in Spider-Man 2. It's been a while since I've been in this world, but I was immediately c??aught up with the Spider-Man duo of Peter Parker and Miles Morales and felt like I never missed a beat. This is the storyline I was really waiting for: the OG Peter operating as a mentor for Miles. Seeing Peter thrive and struggle as a teacher adds a little spice to the story, and separates it from the abundant "Peter in High School or is already a fully-fledged adult" storylines from popular media.

Look, I'm still not thrilled that the original Peter Parker was essentially erased from the ??series. But at this point, Yuri Lowenthal has made the role his own, and absolutely smashed it in the sequel. As you can imagine with the symbiote being front and center this is a fairly demanding role that requires a lot of emotion, and Lowenthal nailed it (even if I was secretly hoping for an "I'll chase you to the ends of the earth" cheeseball moment). In fact, his performance draws upon some of the best par?ts of Christopher Daniel Barnes' work in the FOX Kids show, especially when the mask is on. Speaking of great voicework, Nadji Jeter is arguably the best Miles Morales actor right ??now, and he has fantastic chemistry with Lowenthal from the jump.

As you may have heard, one of Spider-Man 2's big gimmicks is allowing you to swap between Peter and Miles throughout the game. So does Insomniac pull it off? Well, mostly. As you can imagine, adapting the whole "Peter g?ets the Venom symbiote" storyline (which is heavily featured in the game's marketing) is still going to shift a lot of focus on Peter, while Miles starts to take a backseat at the midpoint of the story.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fVYKsEmuRo

It's a fine balance, right? Because in the end, Spider-Man 2 doesn't feel bloated. It's kind of amazing how Insomniac pulled it off, because the temptation to just shove stuff into a "bigger better" sequel until you can't is stro??ng. Story points are allowed to run their course without going on too long, and things are mostly wrapped up by the end. While I would have liked a little more of a Miles focus overall, he does play a huge part in the narrative and the denouem?ent.

With the added web wings gliding mechanic, locomotion is even smoother than past entries. Given that the sandbox of New York has been expanded a bit it's just as well, but I forgot just how fun it is to zoom around in these games and do absolutely nothing. Very rarely am I enamored enough with an open world to drift around aimlessly for extended periods of time, but I found myself caught in that loop all over again. I mean, 2004's Spider-Man 2 was really on to something with the whole "hey, swinging around on webs is fun if done right" mentality, so I'm glad Insomniac picked? that legacy back up off the ground.

Without spoiling anything, Kraven (one of the big bads of this entry) and Venom slot nicely into the sequel, and don't overpower each other. The best part of Kraven is his goons: his army of hunters adds an air of urgency to regular old street fights, and gels nicely with the idea of them actually having the ability to hunt super-beings. Kraven isn't as interesting as he could have been, but he is formidable, and the angle of wanting to hunt every super-powered person (hero or ??villain), is interesting enough to carry a chunk of the story.

Image via Insomniac Games

Combat is a little more fine-tuned in the sequel too. The parry mechanic kept me on my toes, even on the game's normal difficulty. In short, some attacks have a yellow flash, telegraphing that they need to be leaped over or parried (using the block button right before they hit). ??This all ties back into the idea that the hunters can actually wreck you, and it makes perfect sense as you eventually work your way through each combat tutorial/concept.

There is a familiar annoyance factor here though (which has always bled through the series) that can feel off in Spider-Man 2. That not only applies to some over-tutorialization during some intense fights (taking a bit of the edge off), but minigames. Yes, minigames return, and although the vast majority of them are optional sidequests, you'll need to slowly acclimate to them through the forc?ed tutorials before you can be left to your own devices.

Of course, just like the old games, once you're through that hump, it all smoothes over. Given that sidequests and extra objectives are plainly communicated on the map, it's easy to zip ??around and come across stuff you either want to skip or finish in short order. The suit system is also vastly improved, with regular unlocks that are doled out to both Peter and Miles, and the ability to customize your build without being tied to a specific suit. Speaking of builds, there's a Peter skill tree, a Miles skill tree, and a tree for both. All three of them aren't overwhelmingly large, which is a good thing in my mind. Again, there was likely a temptation to go bigger with everything here, and I admire the restraint.

Image via Insomniac Games

If you've played either of the prior Insomniac Spider-Man games before, you're probably familiar with the deluge of boss fights, often featuring iconic villains from Peter's rogues gallery. Well, they're back! There were a few moments in Spider-Man 2 where I thought to myself "how w??ere they allowed to make this?," and I mean that as a compliment! Some boss fights are over-the-top arcadey, with silly transitions and hidden mechanics? (like objects you can pull down to score a chunk of damage), just like an old-school beat 'em up.

That type of "old meets new" blueprint is why I think this particular series of games has been so successful. It can be jarring at times, but these games are unpred??ictable and silly, just like the Spider-Man franchise at large?. Insomniac never takes itself too seriously, even with the heavier themes of loss and anxiety that echo throughout this sequel, as a result of the events of prior games. One minute you could be fighting one of the goofiest villains in comic history, and the next, you're watching someone reckon with the loss of a close family member. It's a rollercoaster of a game.

It's abundantly clear that this series isn't over yet, and I hope that Insomniac never really stops working on superher??o games. There's so much of the Spider-Man mythos that's untapped so far, and you could keep this gravy train running with some crazier ideas once this pres??umed trilogy is over. As long as Insomniac is on board, I'll be along for the ride.

Insomniac Games has announced several new accessibility options for Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Most of the support expands on systems found in previous Spider-Man games and other Insomniac titles like Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart.

The announcement came via the PlayStation Blog with Insomniac developers over accessibility design and UX, explaining e??xpanded functionality and those uses.

Alongside the difficulty settings in prior games, Spider-Man 2 also features what Insomniac calls Challenge Level Modifiers. These allow for aspects such as enemies' health, damage, and a?wareness to receive some finer tweaking.

Features like Chase Assist alter chases to give players an advantage, such as slowing down the target's top speed. Repeated button presses from QTEs can also be changed to button taps or holds. There's even room to adjust Spider-Man 2's ga?meplay speeds, with options to play at 70, 50, or 30 pe?rcent of the original, real-time rates.

Audio settings are adjustable, too, with high or low-frequency sounds having a toggle. There's even a filter for notch frequency to remove certain frequency ranges??.

Other features will make it into the game after launch. One of these is audio descriptions featuring a voice-over narrating c??utscenes and QTE?s. The other is a screen reader featuring audio descriptions for elements like tutorials or menus. Those two are especially helpful for blind players but are not coming on launch. Instead, they are a part of an update coming in December 2023.

Increased accessibility in games is always a great thing to hear. It helps expand a game's potential audience who otherwise might have trouble with certain elements. Hopefully, Insomniac's accessibility support works as intended to make playing Marvel's Spider-Man 2 as com??fortable as possible when it release?s October 20 for PS5.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 going?? gold means that the game is now getting pressed into discs. There will likely be a day one patch, but the 1.0 version of the game is now getting made and shipped to warehouses and stores around the world.

"I just want to say that I love you and I'm so stoked for this game and I hope you guys enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it," said Laura Bailey, who plays Mary Jane Watson in Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will be released exclusively fo??r the PS5 on October 20, just one month away. There is no word on a PC version yet??.

Insomniac Games seems to be the most productive studio under PlayStation for this generation. It has released Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Marvel's Spider-Man: Remastered, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and very soon, Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Additionally, Marvel's Wolverine is in the works at Insomniac Games.

To help fans get ready for the game, there's a prequel comic that leads into the events of Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

In the last few years, Sony has been steadily porting its hit AAA titles to PC. Though most ports, such as God of War (2018) and Horizon Forbidden West, have been successful, others, like The Last of Us Part 1, have been poorly received. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is the next title up for a ?PC port, and Inso?mniac has confirmed that it is Steam Deck Verified.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart hits PCs

Rift Apart was initially released in 2021 as one of the PS5's flagship titles. It caught the attention of PlayStation players worldwide thanks to its dimensional?? rifts that allow players to jump between environments instantly.

PC players will get to experience Ratchet and Rivet's adventure soon, as the game is set to launch on the platform on 26 July. Initially, many believed that the port would require a beefy PC with a zippy SSD. Though you will need a reasonably specced PC to play Rift Apart, it will run just fine on hard disc drives (HDDs) at minimum settin??gs.

//twitter.com/insomniacgame??s/status/1683953133825716224

Rift Apart is Steam Deck Verified, meaning the portable gaming device can handle it. Though some variations of the Steam Deck have SSDs, players have to settle for lowered settings on the ha?ndheld, as has been the case with previous Sony ports. Those on high-spec PCs get to enjoy 4K 60FPS ray-traced gameplay.

This isn't the first time Insomniac has ported its titles to PC, as Spider-Man Remastered was ported to P??C in 2022 (with help from fellow first-party studio Nixxes Software). The web-slinging game is also Steam Deck Verified.

Rift Apart is a visually stunning title that does a phenomenal job of presenting a truly next-gen experience. Though some may feel ?that it is a little pricey for its short length, it is packed with n??on-stop excitement.

I like being bad. It makes me happy.

This year's San Diego Comic-Con may be scaled down from years past with the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, but that doesn't mean there won't be any news out of the show. With television shows and movies taking a backseat this year, that means the spotlight can finally return to the one thing that lives at the heart of SDCC. I am of course talking about Marvel's Spider-Man 2. The upcoming action-adventure game is just a couple of months away, and today at SDCC, we got a brand new story trailer that gives us a good look at perennial favorit?e Venom.

This wasn't the only big Spidey announcement today. Sony also revealed it's releasing a Marvel's Spider-Man 2-themed PlayS??tation 5 console bundle, complete with a custom controller and custom console covers. The bundle will also include a voucher for the digital version of the game even though this limited edition PS5 is fully capable of playing discs.

If already own a PS5 and would like to upgrade to the Spider-Man console covers, Sony will be selling them separately for both the standard PS5 and the Digital Edition. The same goes for the Spider-Man 2 DualSense controller. Pre-orders begin July 28 on the PlayStation website and at select retailer?s. The console bundle, covers, and DualSense controller will release on September 1. If you do order the full bundle, know that it comes with a couple of in-game perks, including early access to two suits and an early unlock of the Web Grabber gadget.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 releases exclusively for PlayStation 5 on October 20, 2023.

The hunt begins this fall

Peter and Miles seem like they're going to have their hands full saving the city. Sony and Insomniac premiered gameplay of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 today, show??ing off how the duo are working together to tackle the threat of Kraven, and other dangers lurking just below the surface.

Today's extended spotlight, shown during the PlayStation Showcase, confirms a lot about the Spidey sequel. While Kraven the Hunter looks to be the instigating antagonist of the story, we also see mentions of Prowler, Tombstone, the Lizard, and more. And, as previously confirmed, the Symbiote—though no Venom in this spotlight.

We also get to see both Spider-Men in action today, as Insomniac shows a scene where the player swaps from Peter to Miles. While Peter's packing some new Symbiote-driven powers that look absolutely brutal for combat, Miles has a bunch of new utility options. A wingsuit (dubbed Web Wings), a powerful web slingshot, and lines of web for stealth sections all look fantasti?c. It looks like both Spideys have the suit upgrades, as Peter also shows a wingsuit during a high-speed pursuit across the bay.

I'm really into the Spidey-swapping in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and surprised to see how well it works in the moment. Having both Miles and Peter take the spotlight works really ??well. It also amps up the tension, as Peter seems to be changing a bit thanks to the Symbiote's influence. Surely nothing bad will come of that, though.

A web to weave

This was a pretty lengthy gameplay reveal, though it didn't end with a date. On the PlayStation Blog, Insomniac's Aaron Jason Espinoza says they hope to share a release date soon. But right now, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is still broadly set for fall 2023.

Hopefully that window sticks. But Insomniac certainly seems like it's got a big Spidey adventure in store for whenever Marvel's Spider-Man 2 lands.

Miles Apart

Insomniac has confirmed that its upcoming comic-book sequel Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will d??eliver an "epic?, single-player experience" when it arrives on PS5 later this year, seemingly shutting down recent whispers that the studio was developing a co-op title for its latest adventure.

Insomniac quietly made the confirmation in a simple Twitter response to a fan who straight-up asked the studio if there was any truth in the rumors rumors that suggested Peter Parker and Miles Morales would be teaming up for double arachnid action across the rooftops of Manhatten. But Insomniac succinctly noted that Spider-Man 2 is being developed as another single-player title, much like the original Marvel's Spider-Man and its excellent spin-off Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

//twitter.com/insomniacgames/status/1660732829934964?736?s=20

All that said, the new sequel is expected to feature both characters, suggesting twin campaigns with the player swapping between each. It is believed that the duo will meet up with various allies and enemies from the Marvel universe, eventually leading to the gunky doorstep of the vicious symbiote, Venom. The alien antagonist will be voiced by Candyman star and unquestionable horror legend Tony Todd.

If you'd like to get an early start on the new sequel's narrative, then be sure to check out the tie-in comic book, released by Marvel for Free Comic Book Day. You can check out our report on the issue here.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to launch on PS5 later in 2023.

A glimpse into what's to come

It's not often that we get an insight into a sequel's storyline before it releases. Thankfully, we have the Marvel's Spider-Man 2 prequel comic written by Christos Gage with art by Ig Guara. This comic will provide clues on which characters we'll see, and some of the story beats we could witness play out in the highly anticipated game. Here's a wrap-up of everything that happens in the Free Comic Book Day Marvel's Spider-Man 2 prequel comic.

An interview with J. Jonah Jameson

[caption id="attachment_378956" align="alignnone" width="1200"]Marvel's Spider-Man 2 J Jonah Jameson Screenshot via Marvel Comics website[/caption]

The comic first propels us into J. Jonah Jameson's studio with M.J. Watson getting interviewed by the loon. Just like the last game, Jameson is hosting a controversial podcast called Just The Facts. M.J. Watson is seemingly there to promote her book Perilous: A Journey into War Torn Symkaria. In the comics, this nation has warred against Wakanda and Dr. Doom has been the leader of Symkaria in the past after invading it. Perhaps, this will be a subplot within Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Nevertheless, Symkaria seems to be the place where Peter Parker and M.J. went on a trip to, during the events of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

As you'd expect from J. Jonah Jameson, he ridicules M.J. for the poor sales of the book and is sexist towards her. She doesn't take his comments lightly and almost immediately leaves the room. But, both Spider-Men are suddenly tackled through the glass in the room where the journalists sit. The villain Tarantula is attacking them, wanting to restore his hon??or from his first defeat by killing the duo.

How the characters have grown since the last adventure

[caption id="attachment_378965" align="alignnone" width="1200"]Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Miles Morales Screenshot via Marvel Comics website[/caption]

Both Peter and Miles are able to dispatch the villain quickly and swing out of the studio. It seems to be the summer as Peter is cooking with a BBQ. Mary Jane believes that Peter took the fight to Jameson's studio to stop the interview in its tracks. If so, that seems a bit reckless on Peter's part. Peter, since the first game, has worked hard for a Teacher's Certificate, but he ha??sn't been able to find paying work in a short time.

He's living at Aunt May's house, but since her death, he's had to pay the mortgage on the building and he's struggling to keep up with it. However, he says he can't sell it. "It's all I have left of May and Uncle Ben," he states. They then discuss the idea of M.J. moving in, but sh??e wants to stay close to the city for work.

Miles interrupts the awkward conversation. He hasn't been performing hero work for a while as he says he's "just rusty." The youngster is also considering college and what to major in science or music. While he's been pondering that topic, Miles says he's upgraded the lures that distract Peter's foes. However, he needs a quick trip to the electronics store. As they arrive, they notice car thieves. They attack them, but they claim they're under a gang under the control of The Hood, a known villain in the comics.

They turn invisible, but M.J. outsmarts them by throwing paint to reveal their locati?on. Despite getting defeated and unconscious, they somehow vanish without a trace after the police apprehend them.

A possible inclusion of Dr. Strange?

After finding these thugs again in a jewelry store, they catch them within webs. The cloaking tech has been created by Phin Mason (otherwise known as the Tinkerer, the antagonist from Spider-Man: Miles Morales) and was stolen by The Hood's goons. As the comic proceeds, we hear that The Hood is some kind of mage in the eyes of his minions and victims. With the Sanctum Sanctorum being present in the first game, perhaps Spider-Man will meet Dr. Strange for his magic??al know-how. That is just speculation, however.

Nevertheless, The Hood is trying to find a magical artifact, and it's apparently heading to New York. Later on, we find out this object's called the Lifeline Tablet, which can cure disease and raise the dead, according to the antagonist. This could be an important element in the narrative of Marvel's S?pider-Man 2 as both Miles and Peter are suffering from the loss of thei?r loved ones.

A conflict between Peter and M.J.

[caption id="attachment_378969" align="alignnone" width="1200"]Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Peter and MJ arguing Screenshot via Marvel Comics website[/caption]

M.J. not moving in with Peter is affecting him. As he's busting up bad guys, he says "If I'm honest, it shook me when you said you wouldn't move in with me." This argument may spill over to the full game. As Peter and Miles search for The Hood, there's a funny element in their conversation, in which he's calling the older Spider-Man a boomer. Maybe we'll see that continue in Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

As both Spider-Men approach The Hood, they realize that he'??s trying to save his elderly mother. She tells The Hood to stop and?? let her go as she's dying of age on a bed. Despite this, The Hood tries to cast a spell with the Lifeline Tablet. It relishes in a mystical blue light, but no effect has been made on the elderly relative.  He goes on to fight both of the Spider-Men as he ponders if he needs blood for what he's trying to do. He eventually gives up but briefly blames both of the Spider-Men for ruining the ritual he was performing. Is this foreshadowing?

The conclusion

Both Peter and M.J. reconcile their issues, and Miles says he's?? going to major in Music Technology, "the best of both worlds" with science and music. J. Jonah Jameson at the end of the comic decides to sell the Fact Channel podcast network he's brought up and buy the Daily Bugle newspaper. We'll likely see headlines defaming both of the Spider-Men during their adventures in the sequel.

A Spider-Man 2 prequel comic is on the way, too

[Update: Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered for PS5 is now available as a standalone title from the PlayStation Store, priced at $49.99.]

There's more on the way for Insomniac's take on Spider-Man, and now, the remastered version of the original is getting its own release. Insomniac Games is releasing a standalone version of Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered on PlayStation 5 sometime later this month.

Originally, the remastered version of 2018's Marvel's Spider-Man was only available as a part of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition. Now, there will be an option to get Peter's adventure all by itself for PlayStation ?5 owners.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=1E051WtpyWg

For those who already own either a disc or digital copy of the original PlayStation 4 game, they will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 Remastered edition for a $10 fee. Miles Morales owners, meanwhile, will also be able to get the remaster through the Ultimate Edition upgrade. And if neither is your option, Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered will run you $49.99 on the PlayStation Store.

As an important note, if you have a physical copy of the PS4 Spidey and want the digital PS5 remaster,? you'll need to put the disc in every time you want to play the digital version.

Free comic book day

If you want a peek at what is new in the world of Spider-Man, and what's in store for the future, then this coming Saturday would be a good time to head to your local comic shop. Saturday, May 6 is Free Comic Book Day, a pretty rad event where lots of ??publishers put out free issues of various comics.

Part of this year's comic roll-out is a new prequel comic for Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Here's an excerpt from today's PlayStation blog, talking about what to expect:

"When we initially sat down with the team at Marvel, we explored a few different ideas about what kinds of stories we could tell in a prequel comic. But we kept coming back to the same core premise—What if Peter, Miles, and MJ had to team up against a new Super Villain whose powers they didn’t understand? Additionally, we wanted to make sure that we could get a peek into what this heroic trio has been doing since the events of Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. What is Pete up to now that there are two Spider-Men in the city? How is Miles doing i??n school? A??nd how is MJ’s journalism career going?"

Sounds like there will be a lot to contend with leading up to Insomniac's new Spider-venture. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is still slated for sometime this fall.

We've missed you, Spidey

As part of an end-of-year post from PlayStation, Marvel's Spider-Man developer Insomniac has returned to give us the newest update on the game's sequel: a release window. The PlayStation blog is meant to highlight the platform's upcoming highlights for the new year, and what better way to start it off than with Insomniac's announcement that Spider-Man 2 will be coming in fall of 2023. Okay, so that's a pretty big window, and there's always the chance that the game could be delayed. At the very least, though, it's nice to that development is coming along nicely and, for now, w?e can expe??ct to play the game by the end of next year.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIQ3xNqkVC4

Insomiac's 2018 title Spider-Man, and its follow-up, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, are some of the best-loved games to come out of the last console generation. Based on the swinging mechanics alone, I have to agree. I've never played a game that made me feel more like a superhero, and I've been known to return to the game even after completing it just to swing my way around Manhattan. While Marvel had already taken over the box office, Insomniac secured the studio's hold on the newest console generation with the best superhero games since the Arkham series.

I think it's safe to say that Spider-Man 2 has been one of the most anticipated upcoming titles out there, so getting confirmation that it's on the way is going to be a huge boost for fans. We've got plenty to keep us busy in the mean time with all of the awesome releases headed our way in the first half of 2023 (I'm personally keeping an eye on Breath of the Wild: Tears of the Kingdom and Hades II), but I think it's safe to say that when Spider-Man 2 finally drops, we're ready to drop everything to slip back into the suit of our Friendly Neighborhood Spider?-Man.

Plus, more classic Ratchet heads to PS Plus Premium

Insomniac Games and Sony are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Ratchet & Clank franchise. Some throwback armor is headed to Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and some classic Ratchet is going on PlayStation Plus Premium.

The Ratchet & Clank series kicked off in 2002, with the very first game for PlayStation 2. Since then, there have been quite a few entries in the?? duo's adventures.

For the most recent, Rift Apart, Insomniac is releasing several sets of armor, free for all ??players. They arrive in a pack today. Here's the full li?st:

  • Commando Armor (Inspired by Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando)
  • Holoflux Armor (Inspired by Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time)
  • Quest Armor (Inspired by Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty)
  • Marauder Armor (Inspired by Ratchet: Deadlocked)
  • Clank Armor

Ratcheting up the nostalgia

There are some classic Ratchet & Clank games arriving soon for PlayStation Plus Prem?ium s??ubscribers, too.

Several games, like Into the Nexus and Quest for Booty, are already on Premium's game catalog. But on November 15, several more classic Ratchet & Clank titles will hit the service. These are some classic titles, going back to the?? PS2 era of

  • Ratchet & Clank (PS3)
  • Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando (PS3)
  • Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal (PS3)
  • Ratchet & Clank: Deadlocked (PS3)
  • Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (PS3)

Today's PlayStation blog announcing the news also dug deep into the history vaults. There are a ton of quotes and tidbits from throughout the years, discussing the history of one of Sony's most prominent faces. It's a cool way to explore the history and legacy of Ratchet & Clank, two decades on.

The new armor is available now in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. The older Ratchet titles hit PlayStation Plus Premium, one of Sony's upper subscription tiers, on November 15.
