[Update: Capcom confirmed that they will be bundled on Switch at retail and will arrive on May 22. The ??first collection will be a Switch cart and the second is a digital download code for $39.99. Digitally they'll run you $14.99 for the first and $19.99 for the second.]

Just last week we learned that the Mega Man X Collection might end up being split into two releases. That's not a huge surprise given that the original Legacy duo was divided up to make room for Mega Man 1-10 ac?ross two games, but there might be a ??silver lining to all this for Switch owners.

Based on an ESRB classification, both Legacy Collections could be one release as it's listed as one SKU. The ESRB further supports this claim by stating that "This is a collection of ten games from the Mega Man ?universe. Players control Mega Man as he jumps and shoots his way thr?ough whimsical levels."

As long as the price is right and this page is correct that's good news! Ther??e's so many? classic games in those collections, and not just classic in the retro sense, but plain old fashioned great platformers.

More copies of a game out in the wild = good

If you've ever ?tried to buy a really old game, you've probably ran into one of the following two scenarios -- it's either super cheap, like "I'll buy five" cheap, or so expensive that you'd have to mortgage your house to pay for it. Part of the reason for the latter ?case is shortages.

But with the dawn of the "Greatest Hits" concept, which was adopted by Sony years back and to a lesser extent, Nintendo, you can worry a little less. Those monikers generally influence multiple printings, ensuring that more copies are out and about, which are eventually traded in and circulated. Capcom is doing this for the Rockman Classic Collection (Mega Man Legacy Collection) in Japan, with a hokey "Best Price!" edition on 3DS. It'?ll go f??or around $30 with no added features.

As a reminder Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 isn't confirmed fo??r any Nintendo systems, even the 3DS.

The Mega Man Legacy Collection is out worldwide in physical form, and Capcom has a new Japanese trailer to celebrate. It's...flashy to say the least, but it gets the job done in explaining what th??e package is all about -- the first six games, artwork, and various challenges.

But it's apparently not official

The physical editions of the Mega Man Legacy Collection are coming next month, and Amazon has just sprung a bran?d new bundle on us. It comes with a Mega Man statue and collect??ible E-Tank. If the former meets the latter, it's buster and helmet light up.

Don't get t?oo excited though. Rockman Corner reached out to Capcom, and found out that it's not actually an official bundle -- it's a curated edition specifically?? by Amazon. The "official" bundle is the gold Mega Man amiibo by way of the 3DS version.

At least the Legacy Collection exists

"Area man complains about recent lack of Mega Man games."

You've seen the headline before a million times right? Well, prepare yo?urselves, because you're going to? get some more passive aggressive complaining.

It's Mega Man's 28th birthday this year, so instead of celebrating with a new game announcement, or anything interesting, a ton of new merchandise is coming to Japan. This includes both food and merch like pillows and the like. In the near future, all we really have to look forward to is the upcoming physical release of the Mega Man Legacy Collection, including the 3DS Gold amiibo bundle.

The reception to Digital Eclipse's Collection has been overwhelmingly positive so far, and it seems like Capcom is happy with sales,?? so hopefully this leads to a real revival at some point. Heck, we say that every year, so who knows. Enjoy your stuff!

Mega Man Legacy Collection is just around the corner on 3DS. Although it wa??s released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC earlier this year, it's still slated for an early 20??16 release on 3DS. When it arrives on the portable it'll come with two new themes, bundled with both the standard and deluxe editions of the game.

Capcom has a new video up showing them off??, so you can see what you're paying for down the road. As for me,?? I'm already in because of the Gold Mega Man amiibo.

Well, this is a bummer for Europeans.

Capcom has revealed that the Mega Man Legacy Collection will not be getting a physical release in ??Europe. This incl?udes the standard, collector, and Gold Mega Man amiibo 3DS editions. The game will be sold for €14.99.

I know a lot of people out there are still ??solely buying games physically, so this kind of sucks. Also, all you European amiibo collectors out there will likely have to import from other regions for once.

You win again, Japan. Sort of.

Capcom has announced that come February 25, 2016, when the physical package of Mega Man Legacy Collection is released, Japan will be getting a special edition. It's go??ing on sale for 9,709 yen, and will contain a 2016 notebook, a sticky note set, and bookmarks. Both the standard and limited copies will net you two 3DS home themes.

On the flipside, while hardcore collectors will dig it, note that this is around $80 for the? game, and some stationary. That's one cold price!

If you've kept a close watch on the site for the last three years or so, you'd see that it's no secret that I love Mega Man. Despite the fact?? that Capcom hasn't given him any love in the past few years, it's still my favor??ite series, and one day, I'd like to see it return to glory.

While the Mega Man Legacy Collection wasn?'t everything I was looking for, it'll do just fine for now.

So what exactly is the Legacy Collection? Well, it's a package that includes the six original NES games, as well as a few other extras, and a challenge mode -- it's that simple. Every game has the option of three aspect ratios (original, wide, and full), as well as two additional visual filters meant to replicate old TVs and monitors. That's basically all you get in terms of mixing up the games from the way they were ??originally presented.

The key mantra from Digital Eclipse is "if it ain't broke don't fix it," which is going to be a polarizing choice for many gamers out there. Personally, having grown up with the NES, I'm completely okay with things like slowdown effects and choppy, warped visuals. Yep, that's right -- the developers have opted to retain the original look and feel of the games, for better or for worse. You also won't find any quality of life improvements, such as the ability to switch between subweapons with the triggers -- a feature from the PSOne Classic re-releases a few generations ago. In case you're wondering, yes, the Elec-Man subweapon pause glitch still works.

There are some nice extras though, like a music player that features every original track from all six games, and a hefty database mode, which showcases artwork and concept art for every enemy in the game. It's all old archive material that exists in some artbook somewhere, but it's still nice to be able to flip through it all in one centralized location. One really cool feature ??of the archive is the abili??ty to instantly fight any Robot Master at will from the menu screen, with every weapon from that game at your disposal.

Ok, so onto Mega Man 1-6 -- how do they hold up? Quite well, actually, from this gamer's point of view. You can peruse through some quick thoughts here on all six games, but I really think that each title deserves a spot in the collection. The original Mega Man is a bit rough at times with some haphazard level designs, the Blue Bomber seal of quality is immediately apparently upon progressing to the second game -- and of course, the third, which is my personal favorite of the original lineup. While I did feel the burn with Mega Man 5 due to a lack of innovation (as I always do), I enjoyed it all the same, and Mega Man 6 wowed me, again, wi??th just how clean and interesting it is.

My view on the stalwart commitment to the "originals" is mixed, but ultimately positive. While it would have been nice to possibly play a remixed edition separately with more modern options, every game is a classic in its on way, even when you're looking at it years later, free of the tint of nostalgia goggles. If you're feeling finicky and want to switch between games however, it tak?es ?seconds to do so with the highly responsive menus, and save states are available for each game (as well as old school password support, of course).

So onto the big daddy feature -- 50 challenges, accessible by way of a standalone mode. This is likely the deciding factor for many of you out there, since they are technically the only thing new in Legacy Collection. While I was initially worried that they wouldn't do enough, I was pleasantly surprised after working my way through them, especially with the approach that they took. In recent years, we've seen a "remix" mentality for challenge modes, spearheaded by NES Remix. It's a trend that sees developers taking locations from multiple games and mashing them up, and ?it's a trend that I can get on board with.

While Legacy Collection features standard challenges like timed boss rush modes, they also have remixes, which function like obstacle courses of sorts. The game will task you with getting through 15-30 second bite-sized pieces of existing levels, complete with a portal at the end, which brings you to another mini-section. It's addicting, as the game forces you to constantly rethink your strategy, and sometimes hilariously drops you into a sticky situation,?? like the beam section in Quick Man's stage.

Even better, multi-game remixes are unlocked later on, which require you to deal with taking on successive areas from multiple games. It's crazy jumping from title to title, as I would often forget that certain experiences didn't have sliding or charged shot capabilities. Getting a respectable clear time will definitely test the mettle of even the most seasoned Mega Man vets out there.

Thankfully, all of this comes complete with leaderboard support, so you can see how you rank up against your friends and the world. I've already started a friendly little competition with a few members of the press, and I think I'm going to get addicted to this feature all over again, just like I did with Mega Man 9. I'm interested to see the top times from players all around the world, and this is a truly great way to unite Mega Man fans old and new.

After booting the game up I was inspired to beat all six games again and work on the challenges, so the Mega Man Legacy Collection did its job. I'd really like to see more Legacy packs down the line from Capcom -- perhaps with a bit more bravado in terms of extras and alternate ??modes of play.

Mostly completion

We now know that the Mega Man Legacy Collection is coming on August 25, for $14.99 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One (3DS next year). But with the date slowly approaching, more details are coming into view, like this achievement list from Capcom Unity.

Mostly they're basic completion requirements for all six games (way to ruin the Alien in 2 Cap??com!), alongside of challenge "metals" (not medals). Of course, a select few of these might be tough, particularly the "All Robot Rush (No Item?s)" one, which is worth the most amount of gamerscore outside of the completion of every core title.

It'll be nice to finally see if these challenges will test the mettle of hardcore Mega Man fans! In c?ase you're wondering, the trophies are basic??ally condensed, with less rewards for partial metal completion.

That was fast

Well we sure didn't have to wait long for Mega Man Legacy Collection.

Capcom has announced that it will arrive on August 25 o?f this year digitally for $14.99 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The 3DS edition won't arrive until 2016, at which point it will drop alongside of the PS4 and Xbox One physical boxes for $29.99. According to Capcom, "more details regarding the Nintendo 3DS digital release and the physical editions will be confirmed at a later date."

Overall I'm really interested in the challenge mode, and if it's ?going to bring anything new to the table. Since the concept art and the like is going to be all old material, I hope Capcom has some tricks up its sleeve.

This is my most anticipated feature

Details for the Mega Man Legacy Collection are starting to pop up, and this time, we have some insight into the challenge mode. The final ve??rsion will have "more than 50 challenges" available, all with leaderboard support and video replays. Taking a look at the screens in the gallery, so far they seem to be boss rush time attack fare, which could get boring if that's all they have to offer. The same thing goes for the Museum mode, which apparently only offers up existing artwork and information.

As for other tidbits, the Legacy Collection will preserve the ??flicker and slowdown of the NES originals, but glitches like life bar fl??ickering (or horn flickering on Air Man's stage, which always bothered me) have been fixed. Visual filters and screen borders are reconfirmed, as is a 16:9 mode.

The classic series returns with remixes

Mega Man Legacy Collection bundles the first six Mega Man games for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and 3DS. I?? played a bit at E3. Gut reaction: it's probably going to be worth the $14.99 asking price.

You might be wondering what's up with the new Challenge Mode. Among other things, it remixes the games, bridging different sections with portals Mega Man can jump through. Get to the end as fast as possible. I jotted ??down some of the challenges present at E3 to give you an idea:

• MM 1-6 Mashup
• MM 1 Megamix
• MM 1 Robot Rush
• Yellow Devil (boss fight)
• MM 2 Megamix
• And so on...

Each game has its own database with art, statistics, and descriptions of characters and enemies. I learned that the cyclops robot is named Adhering Suzy, for instance. Notably, you can head straight into battles against the individual Robot Masters right from their database pages, which is perfect for brushing up. There's also a separate museum full of old artwor?k, sketches, and sprites.

Button remapping is in as well as options for the screen size (original / wide), border (on / off), and filter (off, TV, monitor). Rounding out the package, there's a music player, too. All told, not a bad little collection if your old systems are in storage. I'd love a Mega Man X equivalent.

'Each game has a save slot'

Just a few days ago Capcom announced the Mega Man Legacy Collection for 3DS, PC, PS4, and Xbox One -- it'll hit those platforms digitally later this year f??or $14.99. We already knew a few tidbits like the fact that it would include some artwork, a museum collecti??on mode, and a challenge mode, but thanks to Digital Eclipse (who is handling the port) producer Frank Cifaldi we have some extra information.

For instance, each game in the collection will have its own sa?ve slot, all of the art will be previously seen items (mostly from the MM25 art book), there will be three filter options (none, RGB, and NTSC), you can stretch to 16:9, no content will be added or altered to the core games them??selves, and an "expert" was contracted to assist for the audio.

We still don't know if the 3DS version will actually be in 3D yet, and Cifaldi ca?lls this more of a passion project to venerate the original six NES games rather than a cash grab. No new art is a bummer, but I'm really hoping the challenge mode is worth it.

Capcom just announced the Mega Man Legacy Collection, which "includes faithful reproductions of the original six Mega Man games along wit??h a new Challeng??e Mode and a Museum collection of art assets that will appeal to both new players and diehard fans."

The compilation is coming to PlayStation 4,?? PC, and Xbox One in North America and?? Europe this summer. A version for Nintendo 3DS is also planned for release this winter.

Curious about that "Challenge Mode?" Well, it remixes gameplay segments from all six games, which, Capcom says, should give even the most grizzled Mega Man veterans a run for their money.
