Out on February 25

The Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection originally had a Jan?uary planned release date, but was recently shuffled into late February. It's okay, we can wait! These games have been great for over a decade now, so they deserve a great compilat??ion.

Yep, I said compilation. Although everyone is intimately familiar with the Mega Man series proper, this new legacy collection (which follows many other similar collections) includes six games: four from the Zero series and two from the short-lived but Metroidvania-tastic ZX subfranchise.

Although this new trailer below is a little inside baseball, it should get the point across that this is a collective of six eccentric and vibrant platformers. Fans will recognize some of the crazier aspects of these games, like the multiple forms Zero and Vent/Aile (the ZX protagonists) can take.

Although the jury is still out on th??e quality of this collection's framework, the games still hold up. Not much longer now!

Still being assembled

The Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection looks to continue Capcom's winning streak of revisiting classic titles in the Blue Bomber's catalog. It contains six games all on one disc or cartridge -- not extra download necessary -- and the Z-Chaser mode looks like it'll add plenty of? replay value to the package. Set to be one of the early must-buys of 2020, fans will have to wait a bit longer to get their hands on it.

It seems the collection won't be fully ready by the original release date of January 21, 2020. On the Capcom-Unity blog, producer Kazuhiro Tsuchiya posted a video explaining it will now release on February 25, 2020. That gives you about a week to beat it before Final Fantasy VII Remake sucks all the air out of the room. A month and some change isn't the biggest of delays and I'm sure it'll be worth it for the chance to finally play those ZX games I missed out on all those years ago.

One disc/cartridge for all

Rejoice, for Capcom has heard your pleas! The company confirmed today that the upcoming Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection will not require an additional download should you buy a physical copy. This comes after complaints with Capcom's previous Mega Man compilations, Legacy Collection 1 and 2 and X Legacy Collection 1 and 2. Regardless of platform, both came with a download code for their second half, ??compl??etely defeating the purpose of getting a boxed copy.

Either to make amends or because this collection is small enough, Zero/ZX Legacy Collection will be contained entirely on one disc or cartridge. That's a huge relief, especially for collectors. I'll never understand the decision to split up the past offerings, especially since half of ?the collection will become lost once Capcom's servers shut down. At least that won't be happening with this one.

Has local and online options

Teased during the initial announcement, Capcom has unveiled the details surrounding Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection's new "Z Chaser Mode." A clever twist on speedrunning, Z Chaser will allow you to verse a computer ghost in a split-screen battle to best your own times on different levels. It will even feature support for local versus and online scoreboards. This is bringing back memories me downloading ghosts in PGR2 to perfect my lap times.

It may not be brand new content for Mega Man Zero (or another sequel), but added bonuses like this are what made the Mega Man Legacy Collection so interesting. Capcom could have just dumped all the ROMs in one package and called it a day, but they'?re going the extra mile to ensure that longtime fans get the most out of this. Considering this series has always been closely tied with speedrunning, Z Chaser sound??s like the perfect inclusion.

A new generation is about to find out how good these games are

Guys, the Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection is kind of a big deal.

Not only are you getting four fantastic Zero games (the series where Inti Creates really got their start), but the two entries in the ZX subseries; which are basically Metroidvania Mega Man games that time forgot. A lot of ??folks are going to be smiling at their Switch screens (you're playing them in portable form right?) just like I did so many years ago.

But Japan is getting something extra with this release. Capcom has announced a Limited Edition version that comes with art stands, keychains (Z-Sabers!), and a five inch Zero bust/statue. As Rockman Corner points out, the shop is also selling a Rockman Legacy Collection 1/2/X1/X2/11 set that has a blank space in it to hold the aforementioned Zero/ZX collections.

I'm tempted, but may hold off and try to find that Zero statue somewhere down the line piecemeal. Where should it go?

It will be heading to PC (via Steam), PS4, Xbox One, and Switch on January ??21, 2020, for $29.99. The console versions will be getting a retail release alongside the digital one, though th??ere isn't a mention of any downloads on Switch.]

It looks like someone slipped up. As spotted by Reddit members, a listing on the Hong Kong PSN Store shows a Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection is in development. Containing six games spanning the GBA and DS, this collection is currently confirmed for PS4 and will like??ly be heading to PC, Xbox One, and ?Switch. It has a release date of January 21, 2020, which may or may not be moved up based on an official announcement.

Packing in Mega Man Zero 1, 2, 3, 4, and Mega Man ZX and ZX Advent, this latest compilation will have all the flourishes that the previous Legacy Collections have come with. That includes an art gallery, music player, graphical filters, special challenges, and unlimited saving. There's also mention of a "Z Chaser Mode," which is probably reminiscent of the "X Challenge Mode" from the X Legacy Collection.
